Tanker Explodes in Ibadan After Brake Failure, No Casualties Reported

Ibadan, Oyo State – A petroleum tanker carrying a massive 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, exploded on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The incident, which occurred at Celica junction on the new Ife Expressway, was reportedly caused by brake failure, though remarkably, no casualties were recorded.

Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted that the massive vehicle experienced a brake failure, leading it to lose control. One witness described the chaotic scene, stating, “The tanker hit a Prado jeep and another car. And in the process, the tanker fell and exploded.” While no lives were lost, the ensuing fire severely affected both the Prado jeep and the additional car involved in the collision.

The Oyo State Fire Service swiftly responded to the scene, with its Chairman, Maroof Akinwande, confirming the incident. Akinwande corroborated the eyewitness accounts regarding the lack of casualties, adding that the incident was officially reported at precisely 18:27hrs on Thursday.

Despite the severity of the explosion and the volume of highly flammable material involved, authorities confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.
