Lewandowski Confirms Barcelona Exit as Legendary Striker Closes Spanish Chapter

Robert Lewandowski is set to leave FC Barcelona at the end of the current season, bringing an emotional and successful chapter of his career in Spain to a close.

The veteran striker confirmed his decision in a farewell-style statement, describing his time at Barcelona as a “mission complete” and thanking supporters, teammates, coaches, and club officials for their support during his stay in Catalonia.

Lewandowski joined Barcelona in 2022 from Bayern Munich as one of the club’s marquee signings following the departure of Lionel Messi. His arrival was viewed as part of Barcelona’s effort to rebuild competitively after a difficult financial and sporting period.

During his time in Spain, the Polish forward became one of the club’s most dependable attacking players, scoring more than 100 goals across all competitions and helping Barcelona remain competitive domestically and in Europe.

Despite entering the later stages of his career, Lewandowski continued to deliver important goals while also serving as a leader and mentor within a younger squad. Coaches and teammates frequently praised his professionalism, tactical intelligence, and consistency.

Reports indicate that contract discussions between Lewandowski and Barcelona did not lead to an agreement. The club, which continues to manage financial restructuring and wage reductions, reportedly explored offering revised terms involving lower wages and a reduced playing role. However, both sides ultimately agreed that parting ways would be the best long-term solution.

His departure also reflects Barcelona’s broader strategy of building a younger and more financially sustainable squad while remaining competitive in La Liga and European competitions.

Although Lewandowski has not announced his next destination, clubs from Europe, the Middle East, and North America are reportedly interested in signing the experienced striker.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest forwards of his generation, Lewandowski leaves Barcelona after helping stabilize the club during a crucial rebuilding phase. His career continues to stand as one of modern football’s most successful stories, defined by elite goal-scoring ability, professionalism, and consistency at the highest level.

Trump Announces Death of ISIS Leader in Joint US-Nigerian Operation

US President Donald Trump announced Friday that American and Nigerian forces had killed a senior leader of the so-called Islamic State group during a joint military operation in Nigeria.

According to Trump, the target was Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whom he described as one of the most active ISIS leaders in the world and the organization’s second-highest-ranking figure globally.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the mission was “carefully planned and highly complex,” praising both US troops and the Nigerian armed forces for carrying it out successfully. He claimed the operation would significantly weaken ISIS’s operational capabilities worldwide and prevent future attacks against Africans and Americans.

Nigerian authorities had not immediately issued official comments confirming the operation at the time of the announcement.

Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, also known as Abu Bakr al-Mainuki, had been sanctioned by the United States in 2023 over alleged links to ISIS. US officials previously identified him as being from Borno State in northeastern Nigeria, a region heavily affected by jihadist violence for more than a decade.

Nigeria has faced an ongoing insurgency since 2009, primarily involving extremist groups operating in the northeast. Armed criminal gangs and militant factions have also expanded across parts of the northwest and central regions, contributing to mass kidnappings and deadly attacks.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that Christians in Nigeria are being persecuted and targeted in what he has described as “genocide” by terrorists. However, the Nigerian government and many security experts reject that characterization, arguing that both Christians and Muslims have suffered heavily from the violence.

The operation marks the second reported US military intervention in Nigeria within five months. Earlier strikes were reportedly conducted in Sokoto State during the Christmas period against ISIS-linked militants.

The United States Africa Command, commonly known as AFRICOM, has expanded intelligence-sharing, military training, and weapons support for Nigeria in recent months. US officials have indicated that Washington has adopted a more aggressive counterterrorism strategy targeting ISIS affiliates across West Africa.

Extremist groups linked to ISIS also remain active in neighboring Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, where they continue to wage insurgencies against regional governments.

Indian Billionaire Gautam Adani Agrees to Multi-Million Dollar US Settlement Amid Corruption Case

Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has agreed to pay millions of dollars in penalties in the United States as part of a major corruption-related case, while continuing to deny wrongdoing.

The case stems from an indictment filed in New York City in November 2024, accusing Adani and several associates of misleading international investors in connection with an alleged large-scale bribery scheme tied to solar energy contracts in India.

US prosecutors alleged that approximately $250 million in bribes were paid to Indian officials to secure solar power deals, allegedly benefiting Adani-linked interests while harming American investors.

According to a filing from Adani Green Energy to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Gautam Adani and his nephew, Sagar Adani, agreed to pay about $18 million in penalties. However, the company stressed that the settlement was reached “without admitting or denying” the allegations contained in the civil complaint.

Reports from The New York Times suggest that US federal prosecutors may now be considering dropping criminal proceedings against Adani. The reports also noted that Adani recently hired a new legal team led by attorney Robert Giuffra, who has previously represented figures close to US President Donald Trump.

According to the report, Adani’s legal team argued during discussions with the US Justice Department that the businessman could potentially invest $10 billion in the American economy and create around 15,000 jobs if the case were resolved.

Adani, chairman of the sprawling Adani Group, oversees businesses spanning coal, ports, airports, cement, renewable energy, and media. He is widely regarded as politically close to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Despite the controversy, Adani remains one of the wealthiest people in the world, with an estimated fortune exceeding $80 billion according to Forbes rankings. He has consistently dismissed the allegations against him as baseless.

Mbappé Booed by Real Madrid Fans Despite Assist in Victory Over Oviedo

Kylian Mbappé faced loud boos from sections of Real Madrid supporters during Thursday’s 2-0 La Liga victory over Real Oviedo at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The French forward, who had been sidelined since late April with a hamstring injury, was jeered by fans during his warm-up, when he entered the match in the 68th minute, and nearly every time he touched the ball afterward.

Despite the hostile reception — the first major backlash from Madrid supporters since his arrival in 2024 — Mbappé still contributed to the win by providing an assist for Jude Bellingham, who scored the second goal in the 80th minute.

The result had little impact on the league standings, as Real Madrid are already guaranteed to finish second behind rivals FC Barcelona, who officially secured the league title after defeating Madrid in last weekend’s Clasico.

Mbappé’s absence during that decisive match reignited criticism in Spain over what some fans and commentators describe as an overly individualistic attitude. Frustration among supporters reportedly intensified after the forward made a controversial — though club-approved — trip to Sardinia earlier in May while the team was preparing for a league fixture against RCD Espanyol.

Some fans also criticized him for appearing relaxed and smiling while leaving training shortly after a heated altercation between teammates Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde.

Although Mbappé has delivered impressive individual numbers — scoring 41 goals in 42 matches this season — Real Madrid are set to finish without a major trophy, adding to the disappointment surrounding the campaign.

Still, his return from injury comes as a boost for both club and country, especially after Didier Deschamps named him in France’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada

Dangote Explains Why He Walked Away From Dream Arsenal Takeover

African business magnate Aliko Dangote has revealed why he ultimately abandoned his long-running ambition to buy English football club Arsenal FC, saying that rising costs and shifting priorities made the deal unrealistic.

For years, Dangote publicly expressed interest in acquiring the North London club and had even suggested he would pursue a takeover after completing his major industrial project, the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria. At the time, Arsenal were going through a less successful sporting period, and the possibility of a takeover appeared more feasible.

However, Dangote now says the situation has changed dramatically. The club’s value has reportedly climbed to around $4 billion, making it far more expensive than it was when he first considered a purchase.

He explained that Arsenal’s resurgence under manager Mikel Arteta — along with improved performances and stronger financial growth — has significantly increased its market value, placing it beyond what he considers a practical investment.

Dangote said he had to choose between pursuing ownership of Arsenal or focusing on completing the Dangote Refinery, a multi-billion-dollar industrial project in Lagos. He ultimately prioritized the refinery, which he described as a more strategic long-term investment for both his business empire and the Nigerian economy.

The refinery project, one of the largest in Africa, faced years of delays and massive costs but is now operational and considered a landmark achievement in African industrial development.

Despite stepping away from a potential takeover, Dangote said he still holds strong affection for Arsenal and continues to follow the club closely as a supporter. He admitted that he sometimes reflects on what could have happened if he had moved earlier, before the club’s valuation soared.

His comments highlight how elite football ownership has become increasingly expensive, with modern clubs requiring not just purchase funds but continuous heavy investment in players, wages, infrastructure, and global branding.

Arsenal remain under the ownership of the Kroenke family, who have overseen recent efforts to strengthen the squad and restore the club’s competitiveness in English and European football.

Dangote’s story underscores the growing intersection between global business ambitions and football, where even the world’s wealthiest investors must weigh passion against financial and strategic realities.

Macron Marriage Rumours Resurface After Viral Airport Incident and New Book Claims

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron have once again found themselves at the center of public speculation following renewed claims about a viral moment filmed during an overseas trip last year.

The incident, which showed Brigitte Macron appearing to push or slap her husband as they prepared to disembark a plane in Hanoi, sparked widespread debate online at the time. The Élysée Palace initially dismissed the moment as lighthearted joking between the couple.

However, a new book by journalist Florian Tardif, titled “An (Almost) Perfect Couple,” has revived discussion around the episode, suggesting it may have been linked to tensions within the presidential couple.

According to claims cited in media interviews, the author alleges that Brigitte Macron reacted after seeing messages on her husband’s phone allegedly involving Iranian-born actress Golshifteh Farahani. The book suggests that these interactions were interpreted as inappropriate, although no verified evidence of a romantic relationship has been confirmed.

The actress has denied any romantic involvement, stating that her connection with Macron was purely platonic. Sources close to the French First Lady have also rejected claims that she monitors her husband’s private communications.

In earlier statements, Emmanuel Macron himself downplayed the incident, describing it as a moment of playful “squabbling” between him and his wife, and dismissing the online speculation as exaggerated and misleading.

The controversy has since fueled ongoing media debate about the couple’s private life, although no official confirmation supports the claims made in the book.

Inside the Global Scam Industry: How Cyber Fraud Networks Trap Both Victims and Traffickers

A growing international cybercrime ecosystem is exploiting vulnerable individuals while also trapping many of its own perpetrators in conditions resembling modern slavery, according to investigative reporting and expert analyses.

These online scam operations — often referred to as “scam centers” — target victims who are frequently poor, isolated, or emotionally vulnerable, luring them with promises of financial opportunity or romantic connection. Once trust is established, victims are manipulated into transferring money, often through increasingly sophisticated digital fraud techniques enhanced by artificial intelligence.

However, the system behind these scams is far more complex than simple criminal networks. Many of the so-called “scammers” are themselves victims of trafficking. Recruited under false promises of legitimate work, they are reportedly forced into scam compounds where their passports are confiscated, their movements controlled, and in some cases, they are subjected to threats, violence, and abuse if they fail to meet financial targets.

Investigations suggest that hundreds of thousands of people from dozens of countries may be involved in or trapped by these operations, which are largely concentrated in parts of Southeast Asia, but increasingly also appear in regions of North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and Madagascar.

A reported total of hundreds of billions of euros has been lost to such fraud schemes globally in recent years, with France frequently cited as a key target of these cybercriminal networks.

Governments across several countries have launched coordinated crackdowns on these transnational criminal groups, which operate like highly structured businesses with global reach and layered hierarchies.

According to testimony shared with the French newspaper Libération, some escaped individuals describe these environments as coercive systems of forced labor, where leaving is extremely difficult.

Authorities and experts warn that artificial intelligence is making these scams more convincing and scalable, increasing the difficulty of detection and prevention.

Despite the scale of the problem, specialists stress that reporting these crimes remains essential, both to support investigations and to reduce the stigma experienced by victims who often feel shame after being deceived or manipulated into participating in fraudulent schemes.

Mbappé’s €400M Valuation Signals Football’s New Era of Superstar Economics

Football finance experts have estimated that any future deal involving Kylian Mbappé could require a staggering total financial commitment of around €400 million, underlining his status as one of the most commercially valuable athletes in world sport.

Analysts say the figure goes far beyond a traditional transfer fee. Instead, it represents the complete economic package associated with signing a global football superstar — including wages, signing bonuses, image rights, sponsorship value, performance incentives, and long-term commercial impact.

The valuation places the Real Madrid forward in the same financial category historically occupied by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, whose careers transformed modern football into a global entertainment and business industry.

Mbappé’s Global Influence

At a young age, Mbappé has already achieved major success at both club and international level, including winning the FIFA World Cup with France. Beyond football, he has become a major global brand through endorsement deals, fashion partnerships, and advertising campaigns.

Sports marketing experts say his popularity among younger audiences and his strong digital presence make him especially valuable in today’s streaming and social media-driven football economy.

His influence reportedly boosts merchandise sales, sponsorship opportunities, international fan engagement, and television audiences — factors that significantly increase his overall market value.

How the €400 Million Could Be Structured

According to financial analysts, the estimated package would likely include:

  • Massive long-term salary agreements
  • Multi-million-euro signing bonuses
  • Complex image rights contracts
  • Performance-related incentives tied to trophies and awards
  • Commercial partnerships linked to his personal brand

When combined over the course of a long-term contract, the overall financial commitment could reportedly exceed €400 million.

Following the Messi and Ronaldo Model

Mbappé is widely viewed as the heir to the commercial dominance once led by Messi and Ronaldo. Both football icons generated enormous global revenue through sponsorships, branding, and worldwide fan engagement during their careers.

Industry experts believe Mbappé represents the next evolution of football’s “superstar business model,” where elite players are valued not only for sporting ability but also for their power to drive global business growth.

Football’s Changing Financial Landscape

Modern football clubs increasingly assess players based on total economic impact rather than on-field performance alone. Shirt sales, sponsorship growth, international market expansion, digital engagement, and global visibility now play a major role in player valuations.

Mbappé’s popularity across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East makes him one of the few active players capable of influencing both sporting success and worldwide commercial expansion simultaneously.

Analysts say his presence at a club can strengthen sponsorship negotiations, increase media reach, and reinforce a club’s global identity for years.

As football continues evolving into a multi-billion-euro global industry, experts expect valuations for elite players like Mbappé to keep rising — especially for stars who combine exceptional talent with worldwide branding power.

Alabama Woman Accused of Shooting Husband After Claiming He “Checked on Her Too Much”

A 65-year-old Alabama woman has been charged with murder after authorities say she shot and killed her husband because she became irritated by his repeated attempts to check on her following open-heart surgery.

According to investigators, Sheri Mitchell-Clutts was arrested on May 10 after allegedly admitting to fatally shooting her husband, Timothy Clutts, 69, inside their home in Russellville.

Deputies responding to the scene found Timothy Clutts dead in a recliner with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

When Mitchell-Clutts initially called 911, she reportedly claimed she felt threatened by her husband. However, investigators later said her account changed during questioning.

Sheriff Shannon Oliver stated that the couple had been married for 15 years and that Mitchell-Clutts allegedly confessed to the shooting. Authorities say she told them she had recently undergone open-heart surgery and became frustrated because her husband kept coming into her room to check on her recovery.

Investigators allege that she retrieved a firearm anticipating he might return again. When he did not come back into the room, she instead walked out to where he was sitting in his recliner and shot him.

Sheriff Oliver noted that, unlike many homicide investigations, the suspect was unusually forthcoming with information, leaving investigators with lingering questions about the circumstances leading up to the killing.

Mitchell-Clutts was booked into the Franklin County Jail on a murder charge and is being held without bond.

US Intelligence Report Contradicts Trump’s Claims of Crushing Iran’s Military

Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the United States had severely weakened Iran’s military are now being challenged by classified intelligence assessments reportedly leaked to the media. According to reports published by The New York Times and cited by several international outlets, Iran has retained most of its missile capabilities despite the large-scale American military operation known as “Epic Fury.”

Confidential intelligence findings suggest that Iran has restored operational access to 30 of its 33 strategic missile sites near the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global oil transit route responsible for roughly 20% of the world’s oil exports. Reports indicate that Tehran still possesses around 70% of its pre-war missile arsenal, including mobile launch systems, underground storage facilities, long-range ballistic missiles, and cruise missile production capabilities.

These findings sharply contradict statements made by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who claimed Iran’s military forces had been “decimated” and rendered ineffective for years.

The White House has strongly rejected the leaked reports. Spokesperson Olivia Wales described the publication of the intelligence as a “virtual betrayal,” while Pentagon officials accused media outlets of spreading narratives favorable to Iran.

Military analysts say the operation faced major tactical limitations. Due to shortages of bunker-busting bombs, US forces reportedly blocked entrances to underground missile facilities instead of fully destroying them, allowing Iran to regain access relatively quickly. Officials also reportedly held back some advanced weapons in case of future conflicts involving China or North Korea.

The reports also reveal growing concerns over America’s own weapons stockpiles. US forces are said to have used more than 1,000 Tomahawk missiles and 1,300 Patriot interceptors during the conflict — far exceeding annual production capacity. Defense experts warn that replenishing these supplies could take years, limiting Washington’s military flexibility if fighting resumes.

Trump recently admitted the ceasefire remains fragile, describing it as being “on life support.” Intelligence officials believe Iran’s remaining military strength continues to pose a serious strategic challenge for the United States in the region.

The growing gap between official statements and battlefield assessments has intensified debate over America’s military readiness and its ability to sustain multiple high-intensity conflicts around the world simultaneously.

Wedding Day Turns Deadly: Groom Sentenced for Killing Best Man Hours After Ceremony

A wedding celebration in Flint ended in tragedy after a Michigan man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his best man just hours after his wedding ceremony.

Twenty-four-year-old James Shirah was convicted for the death of his close friend, Terry Taylor Jr., 29, who had served as his best man during the wedding on August 30, 2024. Following a dispute after the celebration, Shirah intentionally struck Taylor with a speeding SUV outside a house where the reception was taking place.

Taylor suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

According to prosecutors, the incident happened shortly after the wedding ceremony and reception, which were held at a local pizzeria before continuing at a private residence. Witnesses told police that Shirah had been drinking throughout the day. After an argument broke out, he briefly left the scene, returned driving a large SUV, and hit his friend outside the home.

Shirah and his new wife reportedly fled the scene and only contacted police the following day.

In court, Shirah expressed remorse, saying he would be “eternally sorry” and insisted the killing was not intentional, while accepting full responsibility for his actions. He had previously entered a no-contest plea and was convicted of second-degree murder, driving with a suspended license causing death, and fleeing the scene of a fatal crash.

Family members of both men attended the sentencing hearing. One of Taylor’s cousins emotionally recalled arriving at the scene and seeing blood everywhere before demanding the harshest punishment possible for Shirah.

Terry Taylor Jr. leaves behind his fiancée and four children. Shirah’s wife is also expected to face sentencing later in May for her alleged role as an accomplice.

Ilebaye’s Father Speaks Out After Viral Family Clash

Emmanuel Odiniya, father of former Big Brother Naija All Stars winner Ilebaye Odiniya, has addressed the viral family altercation involving his daughter, claiming he was provoked before the confrontation turned physical.

In a voice note shared online by Kogi-based journalist Jeremiah Promise Enemona Ocheme, Odiniya said the incident was not motivated by hatred but by frustration over what he described as changes in Ilebaye’s behaviour after her reality show victory.

According to him, he played a major role in supporting her journey to winning the BBNaija All Stars edition, mobilising votes and seeking support from influential figures.

He alleged that their relationship became strained after her success, claiming the reality star grew distant, ignored his efforts to manage her engagements, and no longer treated him with respect.

Odiniya also criticised some of her lifestyle choices, including alleged cosmetic procedures, saying he had advised her against them because of her age.

The father further accused Ilebaye of physically attacking him on previous occasions and claimed the latest altercation escalated after she allegedly assaulted him first during an argument at their Abuja residence.

He also alleged that she refused to assist him financially despite his health challenges and expressed concern over what he described as her negative influence on her younger brother and involvement in family matters.

Despite the accusations, Odiniya said he still loved his daughter and hoped for reconciliation, adding that the police had intervened and settled the matter.

The incident gained public attention after Ilebaye appeared in an emotional livestream asking for help. Authorities later confirmed that several family members, including her father and siblings, sustained injuries and were receiving medical treatment, while police investigations continued.

Kwankwaso Reveals Daughter Urged Him to Team Up With Peter Obi Before 2023 Polls

Northern political leader Rabiu Kwankwaso has revealed that his daughter encouraged him to form an alliance with Peter Obi long before the two politicians eventually united under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Kwankwaso said the conversation happened ahead of the 2023 general election and reflected the growing political influence of younger Nigerians.

“Even in the 2023 election, my own daughter was telling me to go and work with Peter Obi,” he said, noting that many young people were already drawn to Obi’s style of politics.

Kwankwaso explained that the support bases of both the Kwankwasiyya movement and Obi’s followers cut across regions and social classes more than many political observers realised. According to him, many supporters often keep their political preferences private to avoid conflict.

The former Kano governor also argued that Nigeria’s older political elite have failed to understand the changing mindset of younger voters, who are increasingly prioritising competence and leadership over ethnicity or religion.

He stressed that young Nigerians are more interested in credible leadership and national progress than the traditional political divisions that have long shaped elections in the country.

Kwankwaso and Obi officially joined the NDC on May 3 after leaving the African Democratic Congress following internal disagreements.

Davido Signals Political Ambition With New Osun Government Role

Afrobeats star Davido has officially stepped into public service after being appointed Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund in Osun State.

Speaking during a Twitch livestream with Davreltv, the singer described the appointment as the start of his “political journey” and revealed plans to expand the state stadium’s seating capacity from 5,000 to 15,000. He added that the renovation project is already close to completion.

In videos shared from a political gathering at Imole House in Osogbo, Davido confirmed his growing involvement in politics. He announced the inauguration of the Imole Youth Mobilization campaign council and revealed that he had officially joined the Accord Party ahead of the August governorship election.

The singer said his current focus is supporting his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, in his re-election campaign.

Davido also dismissed suggestions that politics would end his music career, saying he would continue performing even if he eventually takes on a government role. He further disclosed plans to study Political Science at the postgraduate level in the United Kingdom.

Recent appearances at Adeleke University and the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, where he interacted with students and corps members, have further fueled conversations about his increasing political influence.

Arsenal Edge West Ham to Tighten Grip on Premier League Title Race

Arsenal boosted their Premier League title ambitions with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, keeping the pressure firmly on their rivals as the season enters its decisive final stretch.

The match carried major significance for both teams. Arsenal needed a win to maintain momentum at the top of the table, while West Ham were aiming to strengthen their league position and finish the campaign strongly in front of their home fans.

From the opening stages, the game was marked by tactical discipline and cautious play. Arsenal controlled possession for long periods, patiently building attacks through midfield under manager Mikel Arteta, but West Ham remained defensively organized and difficult to break down.

Despite Arsenal’s dominance of the ball, clear scoring chances were limited in the first half as West Ham successfully frustrated the visitors with a compact defensive setup. The breakthrough finally came after the restart when Leandro Trossard calmly finished off a well-worked attacking move to give Arsenal the lead.

West Ham responded with greater urgency following the goal, pushing forward in search of an equalizer through quick counterattacks and set-piece opportunities. However, Arsenal’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper David Raya making several important saves and commanding his area confidently.

One of the game’s biggest moments arrived late in the second half when West Ham thought they had leveled the score. After a VAR review, however, the goal was ruled out due to a foul in the buildup, sparking frustration among the home players and supporters.

As the final whistle sounded, Arsenal celebrated a crucial away victory that could prove decisive in the Premier League title race. Arteta praised his squad’s resilience and composure, highlighting the importance of grinding out results during the closing weeks of the campaign.

For West Ham, the defeat was disappointing but their disciplined performance showed they could compete strongly against one of the league’s top sides.

With only a handful of matches remaining, Arsenal continue to demonstrate the consistency, defensive discipline, and mental strength required of champions as the battle for the Premier League crown intensifies.

Soludo Cracks Down on ‘Fake Pastors,’ Urges Church Leaders to Drive Social Change

Chukwuma Soludo has called on church leaders and members of the laity council to play a more active role in transforming society, stressing that both governance and religious knighthood should be measured by meaningful impact rather than titles or status.

Speaking during the All Knights Day celebration at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the governor revealed that the Anambra State government has launched a crackdown on what he described as “fake pastors” accused of exploiting vulnerable citizens with promises of “salvation without sacrifice.”

According to Soludo, several suspects have already been arrested and are currently making confessions as part of ongoing investigations.

He said the operation forms part of efforts to build what he described as “a new Anambra” founded on honesty, discipline, and hard work rather than deception and manipulation.

The governor also defended the state’s controversial burial reform law, explaining that it was introduced to reduce excessive funeral spending and ease financial pressure on families. He noted that the policy encourages modest and dignified burials instead of extravagant ceremonies driven by social pressure.

Soludo urged religious leaders and knights of the church to show courage in confronting societal challenges and promoting moral values.

“Governance and knighthood must prioritise the right path for societal development instead of the easy route,” he said, while cautioning against elitism within religious circles.

North Korea Adopts ‘Automatic Nuclear Retaliation’ Policy Amid Rising Tensions

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have escalated after reports emerged that North Korea amended its constitution to authorize an automatic nuclear strike if leader Kim Jong Un is assassinated or the country’s nuclear command system is attacked.

According to intelligence analysts and international media reports, the new provision would allow North Korea’s nuclear weapons to launch automatically if the nation’s leadership is incapacitated during foreign aggression. The policy reportedly removes the need for additional military authorization, ensuring immediate retaliation even if the command structure collapses.

Security experts have described the move as a “dead man’s switch” nuclear doctrine — a strategy designed to guarantee a nuclear response regardless of the fate of the country’s leadership. Analysts warn that such a system significantly increases the danger of accidental escalation or uncontrollable nuclear conflict during periods of war or political instability.

The constitutional amendment was reportedly adopted during the first session of North Korea’s 15th Supreme People’s Assembly in Pyongyang earlier this year. The measure is viewed as part of Kim Jong Un’s broader effort to strengthen the country’s long-term nuclear deterrence strategy.

Military observers believe the policy is aimed at discouraging alleged assassination attempts and military operations by the United States and South Korea. Pyongyang has repeatedly condemned joint military exercises between Washington and Seoul, claiming they are preparations for invasion and regime change.

North Korea has continued expanding its nuclear arsenal despite international sanctions, carrying out multiple missile launches, unveiling new underwater nuclear weapon systems, and deepening military cooperation with Russia amid growing global geopolitical tensions.

The latest move follows North Korea’s recent decision to formally classify South Korea as a “hostile foreign state,” abandoning decades-old reunification policies and signaling a tougher national security stance.

Global leaders and security agencies, including the United States, South Korea, Japan, NATO allies, and the United Nations, are closely monitoring the situation. Diplomats expect renewed international pressure on Pyongyang and possible emergency discussions at the UN Security Council as concerns mount over regional and global stability.

Iran’s Move to Control Gulf Internet Cables Sparks Global Alarm

Iran is preparing to tighten its grip on seven major undersea internet cables passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a move that could reshape global digital infrastructure and increase pressure on foreign telecom operators.

Under the proposed policy, international companies would need official permits and would be required to pay new fees to operate through the strategic waterway. Foreign operators would also have to comply fully with Iranian domestic regulations and rely exclusively on Iranian-approved firms for cable maintenance and repairs.

While the Strait of Hormuz is best known as one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, it has also become a vital artery for global internet traffic. More than 97% of regional data flows travel through fiber-optic cables laid beneath the shallow waters of the strait, linking Europe, Asia, and the Middle East to cloud platforms, financial systems, and digital services worldwide.

Key cable systems such as AAE-1 and FALCON carry an estimated $10 trillion in daily financial transactions. Because the strait is narrow and relatively shallow, the infrastructure is considered highly exposed to physical disruption or geopolitical interference.

The proposed regulations would mark a significant shift in regional power dynamics. Foreign telecom firms would no longer be allowed to use their own repair vessels or technical crews, giving Iran unprecedented physical oversight of a crucial part of the global internet backbone.

Analysts warn that the policy could create serious risks for global markets, banking networks, and cloud service providers that depend on uninterrupted data transmission. Any disruption, intentional or accidental, could slow internet traffic, interrupt financial operations, and force companies to reroute data through longer and more expensive pathways.

Iran has historically used the Strait of Hormuz as leverage in energy disputes, but expanding that influence into digital infrastructure introduces a new geopolitical battleground. As tensions rise, major technology and telecom companies are now weighing the cost of compliance against the growing risks of operating through one of the world’s most strategically sensitive waterways.

Iran Signals Conditional Peace as Gulf Drone Strikes Escalate

Iran has formally responded to a U.S. proposal aimed at ending the Middle East conflict, using Pakistan as a mediator. Tehran said its response focuses on ending hostilities across all fronts — especially in Lebanon — while ensuring the security of maritime navigation in the Gulf.

Despite an active ceasefire since April 8, tensions continue to rise at sea. Multiple drone attacks were reported across the Gulf region, including an incident involving a cargo ship near Qatar that caught fire after being struck by a drone. Iran-linked media claimed the vessel was American-owned, though Tehran did not officially claim responsibility.

The latest escalation comes days after U.S. forces targeted two empty Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Iranian officials responded with strong warnings, vowing decisive retaliation against any attacks on Iranian ships or interests.

Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of a growing standoff between Washington and Tehran. Iran continues to tightly control access through the strategic waterway, while the United States has imposed new sanctions and maritime restrictions on Iranian-linked trade.

As clashes between Israel and Hezbollah persist in southern Lebanon despite a separate ceasefire, fears are mounting that the conflict could widen further across the region.

In Torugbene, children are dying from water they have no choice but to drink

In Torugbene, a remote riverine community in Delta State, residents are trapped in a deepening public health crisis caused by dependence on a polluted river contaminated with human waste. For many families, the same water used for bathing, washing, and cooking is also their only source of drinking water.

The heartbreaking deaths of infants like five-month-old Freedom and one-year-old Peace have drawn attention to the devastating consequences of years of neglect. Both children reportedly suffered severe diarrhoea, vomiting, rashes, and swelling before dying after repeated exposure to contaminated water and limited access to healthcare.

In Torugbene, children fetch water daily from the brown, debris-filled river, while makeshift toilets built directly above the stream discharge human waste into the same waterway. With no functional boreholes, no proper sanitation system, and only a poorly equipped health centre staffed by two workers, residents say they have no alternative.

Health experts warn that the contaminated water exposes the community to deadly diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery, hepatitis A, and severe skin infections. Flooding and climate change are worsening the crisis, spreading waste into homes and increasing the risk of outbreaks during the long rainy season.

Despite repeated promises and massive budget allocations for water infrastructure by successive Delta State governments, Torugbene residents say little has changed. Community leaders, health workers, and aid groups are now calling for urgent government intervention to provide safe drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, and flood protection before more lives are lost

International drug bust: Alleged Nigerian billionaire arrested in Switzerland over a multi-billion-naira drug money laundering network

A major international anti-drug operation has led to the arrest of alleged Nigerian billionaire drug baron Amadi Simon in Switzerland. The operation was carried out by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in collaboration with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and several European security agencies.

According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the coordinated investigation uncovered an alleged global drug money laundering network involving shell companies, cryptocurrency wallets, and multiple international bank accounts used to conceal billions of naira linked to drug trafficking and financial crimes.

Authorities also arrested two alleged associates — Jecinta Amara Ikechi in Anambra State and Blessing Ngozi Amadi in Agbor — during simultaneous raids on April 28, 2026.

Investigators reportedly linked the suspects to several luxury properties in Nigeria, including Jovi Hotel, Jovi Hotel and Suites, and Jovi Apartment. Bank accounts and cryptocurrency assets connected to the network have also been frozen as investigations continue.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the fight against international drug trafficking and illicit financial operations, praising the role of global intelligence sharing and joint enforcement efforts.

Fashion or controversy? Kylie Jenner’s Met Gala jewels turned a real-life Louvre heist into couture drama

At the 2026 Met Gala 2026, an unexpected controversy stole the spotlight when Kylie Jenner appeared wearing jewelry inspired by the infamous 2025 Louvre heist. The dramatic look was part of Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry’s couture collection, “Agony and Ecstasy,” influenced by the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel frescoes and the grandeur of the Louvre Museum.

Jenner’s outfit featured a sculpted nude corset and a voluminous satin skirt adorned with over 10,000 natural baroque pearls and 7,000 shimmering mother-of-pearl scales — a masterpiece requiring nearly 11,000 hours of embroidery. But it was the antique-style necklace and chandelier earrings that sparked debate. Many interpreted the jewels as artistic recreations of the treasures stolen from the Louvre’s Galerie d’Apollon in October 2025, a theft reportedly valued at €88 million.

The bold fashion statement divided public opinion. Some praised Schiaparelli’s fearless creativity and theatrical storytelling, while others criticized the collection for glamorizing a real cultural tragedy. The controversy reignited an ongoing debate in the fashion world: where should the line be drawn between artistic inspiration and exploiting historic events?

600,000 km later — this Tesla Model 3 is still running on its original battery. EV longevity just got real

A Canadian YouTuber bought the highest-mileage Tesla Model 3 listed for sale in North America — an astonishing 609,828 km on its original battery. Despite losing around 34% of its battery capacity after seven years, the car is still running surprisingly well. Purchased for about €7,500, the 2019 Model 3 now delivers roughly 222 km of highway range on a full charge, compared to 386 km when new.

While the battery degradation is higher than average, the car had been driven nearly 87,000 km per year and likely relied heavily on fast charging. Aside from replacing a thermal system component and handling minor maintenance, the battery itself has never been changed. The test proves that even after 600,000 km, a Tesla battery can remain functional and practical for daily driving — challenging the belief that EV batteries are the weak point of electric cars.

Akpabio Sparks Debate as Lawmakers Defect from ADC in Political Shake-Up

Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has stirred political discussion after suggesting that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is effectively collapsing amid a wave of defections by lawmakers.

Speaking during a Senate session on Tuesday, Akpabio reacted to multiple lawmakers leaving the ADC for other political parties, including the Labour Party (LP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He jokingly proposed that defecting senators should submit their names in bulk to avoid repeated announcements on the Senate floor, adding that “it looks like the ADC is dead.”

His comments came as both chambers of Nigeria’s National Assembly continued to witness notable political realignments. In the House of Representatives, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced several defections involving lawmakers moving from the ADC to other parties.

Among those listed were multiple members shifting to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, and others. Additional defections included lawmakers such as Leke Abejide, who reportedly moved from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The developments highlight ongoing political restructuring within Nigeria’s legislature, as parties continue to lose and gain members in a fluid and highly dynamic political environment.

“From Snakes to Monkeys: Nigeria’s Viral ‘Animal Loot’ Stories Stir Controversy”

A bizarre and widely discussed claim in Nigeria’s political space resurfaced after reports linked missing public funds to yet another unusual explanation—this time involving monkeys.

The story follows earlier controversy from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), where an official once alleged that a “mysterious snake” swallowed N36 million generated from scratch card sales—a claim that drew national attention and skepticism.

In a similar narrative, former senator Shehu Sani reportedly told journalists that N70 million belonging to the Northern Senators Forum could not be properly accounted for after leadership changes within the group. He suggested, in a widely quoted remark, that “monkeys” were alleged to have been involved in the disappearance of the funds.

The money was said to have been part of contributions managed under the leadership transition of the Northern Senators Forum during the 8th National Assembly. Questions later emerged about its full utilization and documentation.

Sani’s comments, delivered in a strongly critical tone, referenced earlier high-profile public controversies involving animals being linked—allegedly or rhetorically—to missing funds. His remarks quickly spread on social media, fueling debate and satire across the country.

However, the claims remain framed in controversy and political dispute, with no formal investigative conclusion publicly confirming any literal involvement of animals in the disappearance of funds. The statements are widely interpreted as political commentary highlighting concerns over accountability rather than factual explanations of financial loss.

Viral Claims About Dangote Refinery Funding Debunked After Official Denial

A viral post on X in May 2026 sparked widespread debate after alleging that Africa’s biggest business figures were privately involved in financing pressures during the construction of the Dangote Group refinery project.

The post claimed that during a challenging phase in 2021, informal financial support was allegedly sought from prominent billionaires including Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Mike Adenuga. It further suggested that private financial arrangements took place outside formal channels, including an alleged promise of funding that never materialized.

The story spread quickly across social media, largely due to the high-profile individuals involved and the scale of the refinery project. However, no documents or financial records were provided to support the claims.

The Dangote Group strongly rejected the narrative, calling it false, misleading, and malicious. It clarified that the refinery was financed through structured institutional funding, not informal private contributions.

A key financier of the project is the Afreximbank, which reportedly supported the development with multi-billion-dollar facilities as part of standard large-scale infrastructure financing.

The group also dismissed claims of any dispute between Aliko Dangote and Tony Elumelu, stating that both maintain a long-standing professional relationship and that no such financial promises or disagreements ever occurred.

Despite the clarification, the story continued circulating in altered forms online, highlighting how quickly unverified claims can gain traction when they involve influential figures and major economic projects. Ultimately, the episode underscores the importance of verified information in an era where viral narratives often outpace facts.

Blood Type and Cancer Risk: What Science Really Shows

Your blood group—A, B, AB, or O—is essential for transfusions, but researchers have also been studying whether it could be linked to long-term disease risk, including cancer. Several large epidemiological studies suggest small statistical associations between the ABO blood system and certain types of cancers, though experts stress these findings must be interpreted with caution.

Research, including a 2014 meta-analysis published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention, found that people with blood group A may have a slightly higher risk (around 20%) of digestive cancers such as stomach and pancreatic cancer. In contrast, individuals with blood group O appear to have a modestly lower risk for some of these conditions. Results for blood groups B and AB vary depending on the type of cancer studied, with some studies—such as one published in Oncotarget in 2017—suggesting a possible increased liver cancer risk for group AB.

However, scientists emphasize that these differences are relatively small. Risk variations typically range between 10% and 25% and do not mean that a blood group causes or prevents cancer. Lifestyle and environmental factors remain far more influential.

Researchers propose several possible explanations. ABO antigens are found not only on red blood cells but also on other tissues, and they may influence inflammation and immune responses. Infections such as Helicobacter pylori, a known risk factor for stomach cancer, may also interact differently depending on blood type. Genetic proximity between the ABO gene and other immune-related genes may further explain observed correlations.

Institutions such as Inserm and Institut national du cancer continue to study these complex interactions, while also reinforcing that major cancer risks remain tied to modifiable factors like smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, inactivity, and poor diet.

Public health agencies such as Santé publique France also stress that blood type does not determine cancer fate—being group O does not protect against cancer, just as group A does not mean someone will develop it.

Mystery Deepens: New Evidence Points to Human Action in Deadly 737 Crash

Four years after the tragic crash of a Boeing 737-800 in southern China that killed all 132 people on board, new findings are shedding light on what may have caused the disaster.

Data released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) suggests that the aircraft’s fuel control switches for both engines were manually turned off shortly before the plane plunged from 29,000 feet. This information comes from one of the recovered black boxes.

The report raises serious questions, especially as China’s aviation authority has yet to provide a clear explanation for the crash of Flight MU5735, previously denying any intentional act.

According to the NTSB, both engine fuel switches were moved from “run” to “cutoff,” causing a rapid loss of engine power. Aviation safety analyst David Soucie noted that no attempt was made to restart the engines—something pilots would typically do in the event of an accidental shutdown.

While experts like Tony Stanton caution that the data alone does not confirm intent or identify who acted, they agree the findings are difficult to reconcile with a standard mechanical failure and are more consistent with deliberate fuel cutoff.

Early speculation about possible pilot suicide had already been denied by Chinese authorities. As of now, no new updates have been released since 2024, when officials maintained that no issues were found with the aircraft, crew, or weather conditions.

Uche Montana’s Monica 2 Breaks Records with Millions of Views in 24 Hours

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Uche Montana has achieved a major breakthrough with her latest film Monica 2, which amassed millions of views on YouTube within just 24 hours of its release.

The sequel premiered on May 2, 2026, on her official YouTube channel and quickly drew massive attention. Within hours, the film surpassed 4 million views, after initially crossing the 1 million mark in just four hours—an early sign of the strong anticipation surrounding the project.

This impressive performance places Monica 2 among the fastest-growing Nollywood releases on YouTube in recent times. The успех builds on the success of the original Monica, released in March 2026, which also attracted millions of viewers and helped establish a loyal online audience for Montana’s work.

Industry observers say the film’s rapid rise highlights Nollywood’s growing shift toward digital platforms like YouTube, where filmmakers can reach global audiences directly without relying on traditional cinema or television distribution. This model also allows creators to track performance in real time and interact more closely with fans.

Since launching her acting career in 2015, Uche Montana gained wider recognition through the TV series Hush. In recent years, she has expanded into filmmaking, taking on production and storytelling roles.

With its strong script, Monica 2 is expected to maintain high viewership, further  Montana’s position as a rising force in Nollywood’s digital evolution.

Two Enemies, One Bunker: Ukrainian Soldier’s Unbelievable Survival with Russian Troop

In an extraordinary twist during the war between Ukraine and Russia, a Ukrainian soldier survived nearly two weeks trapped in a bunker alongside a Russian soldier.

The event took place in late February 2026. Vadym Lietunov, a Ukrainian corporal, had been holding a դիրposition with a fellow soldier when their base came under heavy bombardment. The shelter eventually collapsed, killing his colleague.

As he fled toward what he believed were Ukrainian lines, Lietunov entered another bunker, only to find himself face-to-face with an armed Russian soldier. Realizing he was defenseless, he pleaded for his life. Surprisingly, the Russian soldier chose not to shoot.

What followed was an unlikely two-week coexistence. The Ukrainian soldier carefully observed his captor, gradually building trust. He later explained that he could have tried to escape but chose not to, allowing the Russian soldier to lower his guard. Over time, he managed to convince him that surrendering to Ukrainian forces was the safest option.

Sustained by supplies delivered via drone, both men were eventually rescued by Ukrainian troops. Lietunov was reunited with his wife, young son, and mother, who had believed he was dead.

Describing the experience as a “miracle,” he noted the irony of the situation: he entered the bunker as a captive but emerged with a prisoner. The Russian soldier is now in custody and may be part of a future prisoner exchange between the two nations.

Iran Issues 30-Day Ultimatum to U.S. Over Naval Blockade as Tensions Escalate

Iran has issued a 30-day ultimatum to the United States, demanding the lifting of what it describes as a naval blockade on its ports, further intensifying already strained relations between both nations.

The warning was issued by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which said Washington must either move toward a negotiated settlement or risk a deeper military escalation. The statement follows a new 14-point proposal from Tehran aimed at reaching a more lasting resolution to the ongoing dispute.

Iran’s proposal includes demands for guarantees against future attacks, the reopening of maritime trade routes, and an end to regional hostilities, including in Lebanon. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the objective is not a temporary ceasefire, but a durable agreement addressing the root causes of the conflict.

A key point of contention remains the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic global shipping route. Iran is insisting that U.S. naval restrictions in the area be removed as part of any deal.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said the proposal is under review but expressed doubt about whether it could lead to a breakthrough. The United States has maintained that Iran must halt uranium enrichment and ease its control over the strait before any agreement is reached.

The latest tensions follow a fragile ceasefire brokered with the help of Pakistan, which came into effect on April 8. Despite this, both sides continue to accuse each other of violations, including maritime interceptions and seizures.

Although diplomatic channels remain open, continued naval confrontations suggest the situation remains volatile, with little sign of immediate de-escalation.

Nigeria Moves to Evacuate Citizens as 130 Register Amid South Africa Xenophobic Tensions

At least 130 Nigerians have signed up for voluntary evacuation flights from South Africa as Nigeria steps up efforts to protect its citizens amid rising anti-foreigner protests in the country.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the evacuation plan is part of coordinated diplomatic and security actions involving Nigerian missions in South Africa. The move follows directives from President Bola Tinubu, who ordered increased monitoring and stronger protection for Nigerians abroad.

She said the priority remains citizen safety, adding that registration is ongoing for Nigerians who wish to return voluntarily. So far, 130 people have already signed up, with more expected as the situation develops.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu also confirmed that Nigeria has engaged South African authorities, including summoning the Acting High Commissioner, while diplomatic talks continue over the unrest.

The protests, driven by anti-immigrant sentiments in cities such as Pretoria and Johannesburg, have raised concerns in Nigeria. While South African officials have condemned violence, viral footage of clashes and inflammatory rhetoric has intensified international alarm.

According to the minister, recent demonstrations were largely peaceful but still required heavy police presence. She noted that no Nigerian deaths or property destruction were recorded during the latest protests, although two separate deaths of Nigerians linked to security personnel interactions were reported earlier and are under investigation.

One victim, Amamiro Chidiebere Emmanuel, reportedly died from injuries after an alleged assault by military personnel, while another, Nnaemeka Matthew Andrew, was found dead after an alleged encounter with metro police.

Nigeria says it is demanding justice in both cases while working closely with South African authorities to ensure the safety of its nationals. Further protests are expected in early May, prompting continued diplomatic coordination and evacuation planning

Arbeloa Calms Mbappé Injury Concerns, Says Players’ Free Time Is Their Own

Álvaro Arbeloa has defended injured Kylian Mbappé, stating that the player remains fully under medical supervision while still being free to use his personal time as he wishes during recovery.

Arbeloa explained that all injured players are carefully managed by the club’s medical team, which structures their rehabilitation process step by step. However, he stressed that off the pitch, players are not restricted in how they spend their time, saying he does not interfere with their private activities.

His comments come after Mbappé was recently seen on holiday while recovering from injury, sparking public attention. Despite this, Arbeloa’s remarks suggest there is no concern within the club about Mbappé’s professionalism or commitment to returning fit.

The coach also hinted that Mbappé’s availability for the upcoming El Clásico will be decided soon, with a clearer medical update expected later this week.

Arbeloa further praised Vinícius Júnior for his consistency and influence, highlighting his work ethic and leadership on the pitch.

As anticipation builds ahead of El Clásico involving Real Madrid, Mbappé’s fitness remains a key talking point, with final decisions expected after medical assessments in the coming days.

Gift Turns Sour: Peller’s Car Drama Sparks Family Rift with Father

Nigerian content creator Peller has revealed a deeply personal conflict with his father, triggered by a luxury car gift he received from businessman E-Money.

Peller explained that after receiving the car, he decided to pass it on to his father as a gesture of gratitude. However, what was meant to strengthen their relationship quickly became a source of tension. According to him, his father refused to keep the car at home, instead parking it at a filling station due to concerns over space or safety.

The situation escalated when his father allegedly demanded a new house to properly accommodate the vehicle, even threatening to return it if the request wasn’t fulfilled. Matters worsened when Peller tried to retrieve the car but was reportedly denied access, deepening the conflict between them.

Reflecting on the dispute, Peller shared that the issue has brought back painful memories from his childhood. He spoke about feeling unsupported during his school years, claiming his father did not adequately provide for him despite having an income. These unresolved emotions appear to have intensified the current disagreement.

As tensions grew, Peller said he has stopped sending monthly financial support to his father, highlighting how serious the fallout has become.

The story has drawn mixed reactions online. While some people sympathize with Peller and view his gesture as generous, others believe such family disputes should remain private. Ultimately, the situation underscores how money, expectations, and past experiences can complicate family relationships, turning a kind gesture into a deeply emotional conflict.

Deadly Virus Scare at Sea: 3 Killed, Dozens Monitored After Suspected Hantavirus Outbreak on Cruise Shi

A suspected hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius, a polar cruise ship sailing from Argentina to Cape Verde, has left three people dead and several others under medical care.

The World Health Organization confirmed one laboratory-tested case, while five more suspected infections are being investigated. Among the six cases, three individuals have died, and one passenger is currently in intensive care in South Africa. Authorities in the United Kingdom say they are closely tracking the situation and stand ready to assist their citizens if needed.

The first victim, a 70-year-old passenger, fell ill and died on board, with his body later transferred to Saint Helena. His 69-year-old wife also became sick during the voyage and was evacuated to South Africa, where she later died in a Johannesburg hospital. A third fatality occurred aboard the ship, while two additional passengers may be isolated in Cape Verde before the vessel continues its journey.

Operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, the ship carries up to 170 passengers and departed Ushuaia on March 20, with its journey expected to end on May 4.

Hantavirus is typically transmitted through contact with infected rodents or contaminated materials, and in rare cases can spread between humans, causing severe illness. Health officials are still working to identify the exact strain involved, while international efforts are underway to manage the outbreak and care for those affected.

N150bn Loss Rocks Airlines as Debt War Threatens Shutdown

Nigeria’s aviation sector is facing a deepening crisis as the Airline Operators of Nigeria warns that domestic airlines have lost over N150bn in just two months, pushing many operators to the brink of collapse.

Board of Trustees member Roland Iyayi described the situation as critical, noting that airlines are struggling to stay afloat amid mounting financial pressures. He cautioned that continued tension with service providers could worsen the situation, stressing that ground handling companies depend heavily on airlines for survival.

The dispute stems from about N9bn owed to ground handlers, with the Aviation Ground Handlers Association of Nigeria threatening to escalate action if payments are not made. Its chairman, Olaniyi Adigun, confirmed that the group is considering its next steps in line with labour laws, including possible service withdrawal after issuing the required notices.

Iyayi pushed back against the threats, arguing that cutting services would be counterproductive since the existence of ground handling businesses relies on active airline operations. He emphasized that airlines cannot pay debts they currently lack the resources to settle.

Industry insiders have also urged restraint, warning that any disruption could trigger widespread economic consequences. They stressed that the collapse of airlines would not only affect the aviation sector but also create broader national challenges.

The standoff follows earlier warnings that ground handlers may suspend essential services if debts remain unpaid, raising fears of major flight disruptions across the country. Both sides now face mounting pressure to resolve the crisis through dialogue before it escalates further.

Anglican Priest Suspended Over ‘Fake Miracles’ Scandal

The Diocese of the Niger has suspended Ifunanya Maduka of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nteje over allegations of staging fake miracles and delivering false prophecies.

In a letter dated April 27, 2026, signed by the Bishop on the Niger, Owen Nwokolo, the Church announced a six-month suspension without pay, citing conduct deemed grossly inappropriate for an ordained minister.

The Diocese accused Rev. Maduka of orchestrating fabricated miracles and prophecies by using individuals he allegedly paid to act as participants, presenting the events as genuine acts of divine power. According to the Church, he admitted to these actions when confronted with evidence.

Church authorities condemned the behavior as a serious breach of moral, spiritual, and disciplinary standards, stating it involved deception, misuse of God’s name, and actions that could amount to financial exploitation of the faithful.

The statement further noted that his conduct has damaged the Church’s reputation and contradicted the core values and responsibilities expected of clergy within the Anglican tradition.

The suspension takes immediate effect, with Rev. Maduka ordered to hand over all church property and vacate the premises within four days. A disciplinary panel will be set up to investigate the matter further and determine any additional actions in line with Church regulations.

Gatekeeper on the Run After Brutal Killing of Augustine Nwalieze in Lagos State

A 65-year-old transport manager, Augustine Nwalieze, was allegedly killed by his gateman at his residence in Ajah, Lagos State, under circumstances that remain unclear.

The incident reportedly occurred on the morning of April 26, 2026, shortly after the victim had prepared for church. He had gone downstairs to the parking area of his home, where vehicle spare parts and a solar panel were stored.

Concern grew among family members when he became unreachable and none of his vehicles had been moved. Suspicion soon turned to the gateman after he gave inconsistent explanations about the victim’s whereabouts, claiming he had left with a friend—an account later denied by the said individual.

The gateman reportedly fled shortly afterward, prompting a search of the premises. The victim’s body was later discovered in a downstairs flat with severe machete wounds.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. At the time of the incident, other members of the household were upstairs and unaware of what had occurred.

The case has been reported to the police, and officers have begun an investigation. According to the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, efforts are ongoing to locate the suspect, who remains at large.

Explosion Targets ‘Butcher of Bucha’ Azatbek Omurbekov at Russian Base

A powerful explosion has struck a Russian military installation in the Khabarovsk region, reportedly aimed at senior officer Azatbek Omurbekov—a figure accused by Ukraine of war crimes during the early stages of the invasion.

Omurbekov, dubbed the “Butcher of Bucha” over alleged actions during the 2022 occupation of Bucha, has been declared wanted by Ukrainian authorities. The blast occurred at a garrison in Knyaz-Volkonskoe-1, killing a lieutenant colonel identified as Kuzmenko and injuring several others.

While Omurbekov is believed to have been the intended target, his fate remains uncertain, with some reports suggesting he narrowly escaped harm. Russian officials have reportedly restricted information surrounding the incident, offering little public detail.

The base is associated with Russia’s Eastern Military District, where Omurbekov has held a senior training role since 2023. He previously commanded the 64th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, a unit linked to operations in Bucha—where widespread civilian killings and abuses sparked global outrage and ongoing international investigations.

Despite these allegations, Omurbekov has continued to rise within the military and was awarded the title “Hero of Russia.” The explosion is the latest in a string of attacks targeting figures tied to the conflict, though no group has officially claimed responsibility.

EFFC Clears Pastor Jerry Eze After 6-Month Probe into Foreign Funds

The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has revealed why popular cleric Jerry Eze was investigated for several months.

Speaking at an event in Abuja, Olukoyede explained that the probe was triggered by intelligence reports showing unusually high inflows of foreign currencies—dollars and pounds—into a domiciliary account linked to the pastor. The funds reportedly came from multiple countries, raising suspicions and prompting a full-scale investigation.

After a six-month review of financial records and questioning, the commission found no evidence of wrongdoing. Olukoyede disclosed that he later invited the founder of Streams of Joy International, not for further interrogation, but to commend him after understanding the sources and use of the funds.

He emphasized that while the pastor was cleared, the agency would continue to monitor financial activities as part of its mandate, urging him to maintain transparency and accountability.

Victor Osimhen Faces Luxury Car Lawsuit from Mercedes-Benz

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has come under legal scrutiny after Mercedes-Benz filed a criminal complaint against him in Italy over an alleged unpaid car lease.

The automaker’s financial services division in Italy claims the forward failed to meet payment obligations on a leased Mercedes GLE hybrid SUV obtained in 2023 during his time at Napoli. According to the complaint, missed installments accumulated to about €90,000, and the vehicle was reportedly not returned after the lease expired.

The case has been classified as misappropriation, though Osimhen and his representatives have yet to respond publicly.

The situation has drawn attention given his substantial earnings—previously around €10 million annually in Italy, and now reportedly over €18 million per season following his move to Galatasaray. Despite the controversy, Osimhen remains active on the pitch, recently scoring in a win against Fenerbahce.

Off the field, he’s well known for his taste in high-end cars, often seen driving luxury models during his time in Naples and beyond.

EFCC Boss Raises Alarm: Majority of Nigerian Students Linked to Cybercrime

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Olanipekun Olukoyede, has voiced concern over the widespread involvement of young Nigerians in cybercrime, describing the trend as deeply troubling.

Speaking at the 8th Biennial Conference of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State-Owned Universities in Nigeria, held in Kano, Olukoyede said his findings suggest that roughly six out of every 10 university students are engaged in internet fraud and related offences.

He described the situation as alarming, noting that data gathered from investigations and field operations over the past year indicates significant participation of undergraduates in cybercrime activities.

According to him, many suspects arrested in recent operations were students, with some allegedly going as far as compromising academic integrity by placing lecturers on their payroll.

Olukoyede said the issue points to deeper systemic problems, including weak institutional oversight and vulnerabilities within university administration.

He also referenced a major operation in Lagos where 792 individuals linked to an international cybercrime network were arrested, adding that a notable number of them were students. The operation, powered by artificial intelligence tools, highlighted the scale and sophistication of such criminal networks.

The EFCC chairman further warned about the rise of “Yahoo Plus,” a trend where internet fraud is combined with ritual practices.

He urged university authorities and governing councils to take immediate action by strengthening internal controls and working closely with law enforcement agencies.

Olukoyede also called for increased collaboration between universities, regulatory bodies, and anti-corruption agencies to effectively address the growing threat.

Toxic Grass Kills Over 80 Cattle in Adamawa Community

More than 80 cattle have died in Adamawa State after feeding on suspected poisonous grass in a rural community, deepening concerns among livestock owners already facing significant losses.

The incident occurred in Chafajaule village in the Ribadu District of Fufore Local Government Area, where herders said their animals became sick and died shortly after grazing on a plant known locally as “ngayari,” a form of wild sorghum.

The state’s Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Bartholomew Nyalas, indicated that the deaths were likely due to cyanide poisoning associated with the plant, which typically grows quickly after the first rainfall. He noted that consuming large amounts can be highly toxic to cattle.

The scale of the loss has left farmers and herders alarmed, as many rely heavily on livestock for their livelihoods.

Authorities say immediate steps have been taken to control the situation. The Commissioner for Livestock and Agricultural Development, Sa’idu Idris, confirmed that affected animals were identified and destroyed on-site to prevent contaminated meat from entering the food supply.

He also stated that samples of the grass and animal remains have been sent to the National Veterinary Research Institute in Vom for further examination.

Residents have been advised to promptly report any unusual livestock deaths or suspected disease outbreaks to veterinary officials for quick response.

Meanwhile, local leaders, including members of the Fufore Emirate Council, have visited the community to assess the situation and support affected herders as efforts continue to prevent another occurrence.

Nigerian Man Jailed in U.S. for $1.5M Fake Nursing Certificate Scam

A Nigerian national, Patrick Nwaokwu, has been sentenced to 21 months in a U.S. federal prison for his involvement in a scheme that sold fake nursing diplomas, transcripts, and licences.

Nwaokwu, based in Laurel, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Deborah L. Boardman after pleading guilty to wire fraud. He will also serve two years of supervised release after completing his prison term.

According to the FBI, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, Kelly Hayes, said Nwaokwu worked with others to defraud individuals and healthcare regulators.

Court records show he participated in a network that sold fraudulent nursing credentials and helped buyers obtain licences required to secure jobs in the healthcare sector.

Investigators revealed that the operation ran through multiple entities, including a Virginia-based institution referred to as Nursing School 1 and the Palm Beach School of Nursing in Florida, causing losses exceeding $1.5 million.

Beginning in 2018, Nwaokwu collaborated with Musa Bangura, a 67-year-old from Virginia, to recruit individuals seeking nursing qualifications. They issued fake documents claiming recipients had completed necessary coursework and clinical training.

After Nursing School 1 lost its licence, the conspirators reportedly backdated certificates to make it appear that students had attended before the school’s accreditation was revoked.

Nwaokwu also partnered with Johanah Napoleon and Geralda Adrien, both in Florida, to sell fraudulent Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificates to clients in Maryland.

He charged around $17,000 for RN certificates and between $6,000 and $10,000 for LPN certificates, while guiding buyers on how to manipulate their National Council Licensure Examination applications.

Prosecutors stated that the scheme allowed unqualified individuals to obtain nursing licences and gain employment in healthcare, putting patients at serious risk.

Authorities warned that the fraud “recklessly exposed Maryland patients to potential harm, risk of death, and serious bodily injury.”

One of his accomplices, Musa Bangura, had previously been sentenced to 13 months in prison for his role in the scheme.

U.S. Attorney Hayes praised the FBI and the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General for their investigative efforts, as well as Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan S. McKoy for prosecuting the case.

Skin Bleaching Linked to Rising Cancer Risks, Experts Warn

Dermatologists and public health experts are raising fresh concerns about a growing number of skin cancer cases and serious skin conditions associated with long-term use of skin bleaching products, noting that the trend is becoming increasingly evident in clinics worldwide.

Medical professionals report treating more patients with lasting skin damage, including loss of pigmentation, thinning skin, and heightened sensitivity after prolonged use of lightening creams, soaps, and injectable treatments containing strong chemical agents.

According to experts, extended exposure to these substances can weaken the skin’s natural barrier, leaving it more susceptible to UV radiation, infections, and cellular damage that may elevate cancer risk.

In several documented cases, individuals who used bleaching products consistently for 10 to 20 years are now developing rare forms of skin cancer and precancerous lesions not commonly seen before in certain populations.

While skin cancer itself is not new, specialists say the pattern and severity linked to chemical skin alteration are increasingly alarming.

They also warn that many unregulated products contain harmful ingredients such as high-dose hydroquinone, corticosteroids, and even mercury compounds, which can build up in the body and lead to toxicity.

Doctors highlight visible warning signs like thinning skin, stretch marks, easy bruising, uneven tone, and slow wound healing as indicators of deeper underlying damage.

Researchers attribute the continued use of bleaching products to social and psychological influences, including beauty standards, peer pressure, and online trends promoting lighter skin.

Starting these practices at a young age significantly increases the risk of long-term complications, especially when done without medical supervision or proper regulation.

Health authorities are calling for stricter controls on illegal cosmetic products and better enforcement in informal markets where safety standards are often lacking.

They also urge governments to launch awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of skin bleaching, particularly in communities where it is common.

Improving early detection systems in healthcare settings is another priority, as timely diagnosis can help prevent severe outcomes.

Routine skin checks are recommended for individuals with a history of long-term bleaching, especially if they notice persistent irritation, discoloration, or unusual growths.

Beyond health risks, experts stress that the issue reflects deeper societal challenges, such as colourism and perceptions of beauty that continue to drive unsafe practices.

As research continues, specialists are calling for a coordinated global response involving regulation, education, and healthcare action to address this growing concern.

The warning underscores that cosmetic practices involving chemical skin alteration carry serious long-term risks, often underestimated until the damage becomes irreversible.

Experts Link Surge in Triplets, Quadruplets in Nigeria to IVF Practices and Drug Misuse

Fertility specialists have raised concerns over the growing number of higher-order multiple pregnancies in Nigeria — including triplets, quadruplets, and quintuplets — attributing the trend largely to increased use of assisted reproductive methods and the misuse of fertility drugs.

According to experts, while South-West Nigeria has historically recorded high rates of twin births, the current spike in more complex multiple pregnancies cannot be explained by genetics alone. Instead, it is increasingly tied to medical interventions such as In vitro fertilisation and unsupervised use of ovulation-stimulating medications.

In interviews with PUNCH Healthwise, specialists explained that many of these pregnancies now require hospital management due to their high-risk nature. They pointed to unregulated fertility practices, including the transfer of multiple embryos during IVF procedures and the widespread, unsupervised use of drugs like Clomiphene citrate.

Beyond medical factors, societal pressure and stigma surrounding infertility are also influencing decisions, with some women intentionally seeking multiple births despite the associated dangers.

Experts warned that such pregnancies significantly increase health risks for both mothers and babies, including complications like preterm birth, neonatal mortality, and maternal death — further straining Nigeria’s already challenged maternal healthcare system.

They also highlighted systemic issues such as weak regulation of fertility clinics, poor data reporting, and a culture of secrecy around assisted reproductive procedures, all of which obscure the true scale of the issue.

Recent incidents underscore the trend. In Lagos, Charity Anani delivered quadruplets in February 2026 but later died from complications. Similarly, Hafsatu Yusuf passed away shortly after giving birth to quintuplets in Kano. Other cases include quadruplet births in Ogun State and a tragic maternal death following the delivery of triplets in Bayelsa.

While not all cases have been definitively linked to assisted reproductive methods, investigations suggest at least one involved IVF.

Speaking on the issue, Preye Fiebai, President of the Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health, noted a steady increase in higher-order multiple births, describing them as pregnancies beyond twins.

He explained that although comprehensive national data is lacking, available studies show a gradual rise. One study cited an increase from under 0.3% in 2013 to about 0.7% in 2017.

Fiebai emphasized that the expansion of fertility clinics, combined with weak regulatory oversight, is fueling the trend. Unlike developed countries where single embryo transfer is becoming standard, some Nigerian clinics reportedly transfer as many as six or seven embryos.

He stressed that outcomes for multiple pregnancies are significantly riskier, with complications occurring at much higher rates than in single births. He also raised concerns about cases where women die days after delivery, even without prior warning signs.

Fiebai advocated limiting embryo transfers to a maximum of two and warned strongly against the unsupervised use of fertility medications, noting that many women self-administer such drugs in pursuit of multiple births.

Also weighing in, Christopher Aimakhu, Second Vice President of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria, said the rise in multiple pregnancies is part of a global pattern driven by assisted reproductive technologies.

He added that ovulation-inducing drugs also play a role by increasing the number of eggs released during a cycle.

While acknowledging that Yoruba women have historically had higher rates of twin births due to genetic and dietary factors, Aimakhu cautioned that the health risks associated with higher-order multiples remain severe.

Despite cultural acceptance of multiple births, he stressed that such pregnancies require careful medical supervision due to their complexity and potential complications.

Tragedy in UK: Nigerian Father Found Dead at Work as Family Seeks Support

For the third time in April, tragedy has struck the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom, as 37-year-old Ademola Oke was found unresponsive at his workplace, prompting an outpouring of grief and a public appeal for support.

Details of the incident, shared on GoFundMe by family friend Adejonwo Odutola, indicate that Ademola died suddenly on April 18 after leaving home earlier that day in good health.

According to Odutola, Ademola had maintained normal communication with his wife throughout the day, with no signs of illness or distress. Their last contact was a WhatsApp message in the afternoon, suggesting everything was as usual.

The situation took a tragic turn later that evening when a colleague arriving for a night shift discovered him seated on a sofa at his workplace, unresponsive. Emergency services were immediately contacted, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Odutola described the loss as devastating, particularly for Ademola’s 31-year-old wife, who is now left to care for their two young children, aged six and two.

He portrayed the deceased as a devoted husband and loving father whose sudden passing has deeply shaken his family and those who knew him.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to help cover funeral expenses and provide ongoing support for the children as the family navigates this difficult period. The appeal urges Nigerians in the UK and the wider public to contribute or share the cause.

As of the latest update, £4,509 has been raised toward the £8,000 target.

This incident marks the third reported death of a Nigerian resident in the UK this April. Just days earlier, reports confirmed the passing of a Nigerian mother of three after battling cancer, followed by the sudden death of another Nigerian man, Herbert, who was found lifeless in his apartment in Thornaby.

These successive losses have heightened concern within the diaspora community, as families continue to grapple with unexpected tragedies far from home.

Gunman Targets Top Officials at Trump-Attended Gala, Sparks Major Security Alarm

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. investigators say the gunman who tried to force his way into a high-profile dinner attended by Donald Trump may have been targeting senior government officials, raising serious concerns about event security.

The incident unfolded Saturday night during a media gala in Washington, where Trump and other top officials were. Secret Service agents swiftly evacuated the president as the situation escalated.

Video later shared by Trump showed the suspect attempting to push through a security checkpoint before armed personnel intervened. A brief exchange of gunfire followed, and the suspect was subdued and arrested on-site.

On Sunday, Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that preliminary findings suggest the attacker had specific individuals within the administration in mind.

“From what we have gathered so far, it appears he was targeting members of the administration,” Blanche said, adding that the suspect has refused to cooperate with investigators.

He confirmed that formal federal charges are expected to be filed on Monday.

Authorities revealed the suspect was heavily armed, carrying a shotgun, handgun, and knives. He had reportedly been staying at the Washington Hilton, the same venue hosting the event.

Investigators also traced his movements across several cities — including Los Angeles and Chicago — before arriving in Washington. Officials believe he had obtained the weapons over a period of years.

The incident triggered panic inside the venue, with attendees rushing for safety as security forces moved in. Among those present were First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, cabinet members, and other prominent guests.

Trump later told reporters he initially mistook the disturbance for something minor before realizing it was gunfire. He described the suspect as a potential “lone wolf,” while noting that investigations remain ongoing.

A Secret Service officer injured during the incident was protected by a ballistic vest and is currently in stable condition.

Security agencies have since launched a full review into how the suspect managed to get so close to such a tightly secured event, given the high-profile attendees.

The suspect, identified by U.S. media as Cole Tomas Allen, is also being linked to a residence in California, where authorities have conducted additional searches.

The situation has reignited debate around security measures at major political gatherings in the U.S., particularly as the country prepares for an upcoming visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Investigations remain ongoing.

Agbaje Outclasses Sojar Boy in Tactical Showdown to Claim WBA Africa Lightweight Crown

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigerian boxer Taiwo “Esepo” Agbaje showcased discipline and precision to secure a unanimous decision victory over Tosin “Sojar Boy” Osaigbovo after 10 hard-fought rounds, earning the WBA Africa lightweight title.

The bout, held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Lagos, delivered an intense and engaging contest, with both fighters displaying grit and determination throughout the night.

Agbaje entered the ring with clear intent, relying on smart movement, sharp timing, and measured aggression to gradually take control as the fight unfolded. Osaigbovo, known for his toughness and punching power, came out aggressively and looked to impose himself early but found it difficult to penetrate Agbaje’s well-organized defense.

As the fight progressed into the middle rounds, Agbaje settled into a steady rhythm, landing more precise combinations and managing distance effectively to gain the upper hand in key exchanges.

Although the contest remained competitive, with momentum shifting at different points, Agbaje’s consistency and ring awareness ultimately set him apart, particularly in the closing rounds.

In the final stretch, he maintained composure under pressure, dictating the pace while continuing to score without exposing himself unnecessarily.

After 10 rounds, the judges unanimously scored the bout in Agbaje’s favor, crowning him the new WBA Africa lightweight champion.

This victory represents a major step forward in Agbaje’s career, strengthening his standing in African boxing and positioning him for potential opportunities on the international stage.

Despite the loss, Osaigbovo delivered a resilient performance, demonstrating durability and fighting spirit against a technically disciplined opponent.

Observers described the fight as a strategic and skill-driven contest, with both fighters producing moments of quality rather than relying on knockout power.

With the title now secured, Agbaje is expected to gain greater recognition across the continent, as the WBA Africa belt often serves as a gateway to global contention. Attention now turns to his next moves, including possible title defenses and international challenges as he builds on this achievement.

Itchy Nipples: Common Causes, When to Worry, and What to Do

An itchy nipple can be uncomfortable and worrying, but it is a common symptom that affects both men and women. In most cases, the cause is harmless and linked to minor skin issues rather than serious medical conditions.

The most frequent causes are skin-related. The nipple and areola are sensitive areas, making them prone to dryness, especially in cold weather or after frequent use of hot water and harsh soaps. This dryness can lead to flaking and itching. Another common trigger is contact dermatitis—an allergic reaction caused by irritants such as detergents, fabric softeners, certain fabrics, perfumes, or skincare products.

Conditions like eczema can also affect the nipple, leading to redness, scaling, and persistent itching. Friction from tight or poorly fitted clothing, particularly during exercise, may further irritate the skin, sometimes resulting in what is known as “jogger’s nipple.”

Hormonal and lifestyle factors are another major cause. Changes during pregnancy, breastfeeding, menstruation, or puberty can increase breast sensitivity and lead to itching as the skin stretches and hormone levels fluctuate. Sweat buildup in hot weather or during physical activity can also irritate the area.

In some cases, infections may be responsible. Fungal infections like candidiasis can cause redness, itching, and a burning sensation, particularly in warm, moist conditions. Bacterial infections may develop through small cracks in the skin, leading to pain, swelling, and sometimes pus formation.

Although rare, persistent itching may signal a more serious condition. Paget’s disease of the breast can begin with itching and may progress to redness, scaling, discharge, or changes in the nipple. In uncommon cases, breast cancer near the nipple can also cause irritation alongside other symptoms.

Most cases improve with simple measures such as moisturising, avoiding irritants, and wearing breathable clothing. However, medical attention is important if symptoms persist or are accompanied by warning signs such as a lasting rash, unusual discharge, a lump, nipple changes, or signs of infection.

Ultimately, while itchy nipples are usually harmless, paying attention to associated symptoms and seeking timely medical advice when needed can help rule out more serious conditions and ensure proper treatment.

Mbappé Injury Scare Casts Shadow Over Real Madrid’s Crucial Run

Kylian Mbappé has suffered a suspected hamstring injury during Real Madrid’s 1–1 draw against Real Betis, raising concerns ahead of key upcoming matches.

The incident occurred on April 21, 2026, at the Estadio Benito Villamarín in Seville, when the forward showed signs of discomfort and was forced off the pitch around the 9:10 p.m. mark. Medical staff assessed him immediately before he was substituted, with early indications pointing to a hamstring strain.

Further medical tests are expected to determine the severity of the injury and how long he could be sidelined. While no official timeline has been confirmed, such injuries can range from minor strains to more serious setbacks requiring weeks of recovery.

Mbappé has been a central figure for Real Madrid this season, contributing significantly in attack. His absence, if prolonged, could impact the team’s performance as they head into a decisive phase in both domestic and European competitions.

The match itself ended in a 1–1 draw, but attention quickly shifted to the French star’s condition. Club staff are expected to closely monitor his recovery before making decisions about his availability for upcoming fixtures.

Family Alleges Negligence After Woman Dies Post-Surgery in Lagos

A media personality, Beady Nnanna, has accused a Lagos-based hospital of medical negligence following the death of her 44-year-old sister, Blessing Okolie, after a fibroid surgery.

According to Nnanna, her sister underwent a myomectomy on March 28, 2026, at a private hospital in Abule Egba. She claimed the facility appeared substandard from the outset but said Okolie insisted on being treated there based on recommendations.

Although the surgery was initially described as successful, Nnanna said complications soon developed. Within days, Okolie began experiencing severe abdominal pain and swelling. Despite repeated requests for further examination, including a scan, she alleged that the hospital dismissed concerns and delayed proper diagnosis.

A scan eventually conducted at another facility reportedly revealed a metal object in Okolie’s abdomen. Nnanna believes it was a pair of scissors left behind during surgery. The patient was subsequently taken back for a second operation, but her condition continued to deteriorate.

Nnanna further alleged poor post-operative care, including lack of adequate equipment, delayed referrals, and a critical incident involving power failure during oxygen support. She said she eventually moved her sister to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where she later died despite efforts to save her.

The family has reported the case to the authorities and is demanding justice, including a full investigation and possible closure of the hospital.

In response, the Medical Director of the facility, Dr. Abiodun Ojifinni, confirmed that Okolie underwent fibroid surgery but stated that complications arose days later, including sepsis. He denied definitive claims of negligence and urged caution, emphasizing that the exact cause of death would be determined through an ongoing autopsy and coroner’s inquest.

Ojifinni noted that the patient was referred to LASUTH at the family’s request and maintained that conclusions should await the official medical findings.

The case has sparked concern over patient safety and standards of care in private healthcare facilities, with the outcome of the autopsy expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding Okolie’s death.

CBN Rolls Out Stricter BVN Rules with New Security Limits

The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced new guidelines for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) system, set to take effect on May 1, 2026, introducing significant changes to how customers access and manage their bank accounts.

Under the updated rules, tighter security measures will be enforced, including a one-device login restriction, a one-time phone number change policy, and the possibility of temporary account limitations for users flagged for suspicious activity.

The new framework applies to all BVN holders nationwide, and customers are encouraged to update and secure their personal information before the deadline to avoid potential service disruptions.

While the policy is designed to curb fraud and enhance the security of digital banking, it has also raised concerns about accessibility, particularly for users already facing challenges related to network reliability and banking infrastructure.
