Ghanaian actress Xandy Kamel has sparked intense debate following a shocking confession during an interview with popular presenter Emelia Brobbey.
😢 The actress revealed that she missed her firstborn son’s funeral because it fell on September 17, the same day as her ex-husband’s birthday. She admitted that she was still deeply in love with him and chose to celebrate his birthday instead.
Her son tragically drowned at Sakumono Beach after completing his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). According to Xandy, his body was recovered three days later after traditional rituals were performed by the sea.
In an emotional revelation, she explained:
“I couldn’t attend his funeral that day because I was in love with my ex-husband, and we were celebrating his birthday. My mother went to bury my son.”
Xandy also cited traditional cultural beliefs surrounding deaths by drowning, known in Akan as “Atofo Wuɔ,” as another reason she did not accompany her son to his final resting place.
Her confession has left many people questioning her decision, while others are reflecting on the cultural context behind her explanation.
