Na Hotel, Na Life — Young Man’s Story Ends at 30

A Nigerian man, Chidi A. Okoroafor, has shared a disturbing story about a young man who took over his late father’s hotel at the age of 28, only to die two years later.

According to Okoroafor, the young hotel owner allegedly had a troubling relationship with some female workers. He claimed that women who rejected the man’s advances were either dismissed or had their salaries delayed for months.

Okoroafor said the man’s mother became concerned about his alleged behaviour and asked him to speak with her son because of his relationship with the late hotel owner. He said he tried to counsel the young man, but the conversation ended badly, with the man reportedly becoming offended and walking away.

He further alleged that the hotel owner once made advances towards a mature widow who had worked at the hotel as a cleaner for 11 years. According to him, the woman chose to resign rather than accept the advances.

The situation reportedly took a tragic turn one Thursday night when some young men gathered outside the hotel around 11pm. Okoroafor claimed that the hotel owner went outside to find out what was happening and was subsequently attacked and killed.

He alleged that residents nearby heard some of the attackers making comments about the young man’s alleged treatment of women.

Following the incident, Okoroafor said he contacted the man’s mother to offer his condolences. He also encouraged her to take over the management of the family hotel and consider recalling former workers who allegedly left without receiving their outstanding salaries.

The young man, according to Okoroafor’s account, inherited the hotel at 28 and died at just 30.

“He took over the hotel at 28 and died at 30. Uwa ntoor!”

The claims are based on Okoroafor’s account and have not been independently verified.
