No more promoting Facebook, Instagram, others social media platforms on Twitter

Twitter has said it would no longer allow users to promote their accounts on a host of social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.

The social media giant made the announcement on Sunday in its latest policy change under its controversial new owner Elon Musk.

The move — which also affects Mastodon, Post and Truth Social as well as third-party social media link aggregators such as linktr.ee and ink.bio — comes after users started encouraging their followers to view their posts elsewhere, amid the sea changes at Twitter.

“Going forward, Twitter will no longer allow free promotion of specific social media platforms,” it said in a statement.

“At both the Tweet level and the account level, we will remove any free promotion of prohibited 3rd-party social media platforms, such as linking out (i.e. using URLs) to any of the below platforms on Twitter, or providing your handle without a URL,” the company explained.

Users would thus be barred, for example, from posting “Follow me @username on Instagram,” Twitter said.

First-time violators will face actions “ranging from requiring deletion of one or more Tweets to temporarily locking account(s),” Twitter said.

“Any subsequent offenses will result in permanent suspension.”

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey questioned the new policy with a one-word tweet: “Why?”

See the 10 Major Promises Of Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, Kwankwaso

The 2023 presidential race is getting more interesting as campaigns, town hall meetings and media engagement intensify.

Almost all the presidential candidates, especially those at the pole position: Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Neople’s Party (NNPP); Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have released their manifestoes.

Accordingly, Daily Trust highlights 10 major promises Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, and Kwankwaso made in their manifestos.

Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is the presidential candidate of the NNPP and a former governor Kano State.

The former Senator has released a 152-page document titled “My Pledges To You” as his manifesto, containing some promises as shown below.

Local Government Autonomy
During a town hall meeting organized by Arise TV in conjunction with Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Kwankwaso, who decried the rising poverty in Nigeria, argued that there is the need to look at the Constitution with a view to making provisions for local government authorities to get allocation directly from the Federal Government’s coffers.

Nigeria’s maritime sector

In Lagos during a meeting with stakeholders in the maritime sector, Kwakwanso, promised to transform the nation’s maritime sector, which he said, had been neglected by successive administrations.

He said, “The maritime industry gave birth to our great party, the NNPP, so my being here is largely to listen, appreciate and understand the expectations of maritime operators from me and our party should we eventually emerge winners of the 2023 general elections.

Education

Also in November, while presenting his manifesto in Abuja, Kwankwaso pledged to ensure that all entry examinations into tertiary institutions were free for Nigerians.

The document said, “Examination bodies are service agencies that facilitate access to higher education and training for our teaming young population.

“For our administration, no Nigerian child shall be denied the opportunity to write WAEC, NECO, JAMB, etc., because of their inability to pay exorbitant registration/examination fees. These examinations shall be free and all application forms for admission into Tertiary Education Institutions shall also be free;

Tinubu’s promises

The APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, who is a former two-term governor of Lagos State, has made some promises too.
In October, Tinubu released an 80-page policy document titled “Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria”. Below are some of the promises:

Igbo businesses

During an APC presidential rally in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State capital on November 24, Tinubu promised to protect Igbo businesses if elected President in the 2023.

He said, “I believe in the entrepreneurial spirit of the Igbo. I encouraged a lot of Igbo businesses and investments in Lagos and will even do more if I become President.

“If elected, there will be no discrimination. Igbo interests will be respected and protected.

Industrial revolution

In November during a campaign rally in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Tinubu promised to establish an industrial hub across the nation and mordenise the existing ones when he is voted into power.

He said he was trained by his mother who was a trader and a market leader, saying that “I’ve been progressive in governance, not a backward thing. I want to give us our tomorrow.

Job creation

In December, during a presidential campaign rally in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Tinubu promised to renew the hope of Nigerian youths by creating thousands of jobs if elected president of the country.

He said: “The Poverty Development Party, you know them, has collected your money since the creation of this state, and couldn’t provide the roads. Where is the job? I will create thousands of expert employment, technical hub to link you to the rest of the world.

Petert Obi

Peter Obi, who is the LP presidential candidate is a former governor of Anambra State.

Peter Obi has also released a 62-page manifesto document titled ‘Our Pact With Nigerians: Creating A New Nigeria,’ containing some promises; some of which are as follows:

Nation building

The presidential standard bearer of the Labour Party during a presidential rally in Benin, Edo State, promised to rebuild the country if elected president.

“We will stop people from looting the nation’s treasury,” he said.

ASUU Strike

Also, during a campaign in Jalingo, Taraba State, Obi promised to bring a permanent end to the incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) if elected president next year.

“The 50 months of ASUU strike in Nigeria since 1999 was a disaster against actualizing a productive nation through good education,” he said.

Poverty

Obi during a campaign rally at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, also promised to utilise the human and natural resources to end poverty Nigeria.

“The insecurity in the country is persisting due to lack of job opportunities. I will bring the country back to her days of greatness and the citizens will smile again.”

Atiku Abubakar

The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has released a 5-point policy document tagged, “My Covenant with Nigerians’’.

Some of the promises contained in the document include strategies to end insecurity, speed up economic growth, as well as create jobs.

Economy
In October, the former vice president Atiku at a mega presidential campaign held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State, promised to revive the Nigerian economy and promised to move Nigeria to the right direction.

He said: “We are here today to restate our five-point agenda, which includes to re-unite Nigeria; restore security; establish compulsory primary education and ensure our institutions of higher learning don’t go on strike and revive the Nigerian economy.

Press Freedom
On November 16, Atiku during an interface with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Lagos State, promised to uphold press freedom if he wins the 2023 presidential election.

He said, “I want to pay tribute to the press for their role in the restoration of democracy in Nigeria. Many of you have sacrificed your life and career.

“If you look at the thriving economy in the world, they allow the private sector to run the economy. If you see the amount of work the government has to do in terms of constructing and decongesting our ports, railway, and you have to borrow, I will rather concession most of these projects to the private sector and give them tax incentives. This will bring progress, prosperity and peace.”

Employment

At the Lagos Business School 2022 Alumnia Day in November, Atiku promised to revisit the Oronsaye report on merger of federal agencies and remove the fuel subsidy that had been a drag on the economy.

He said, “I was the chairman for the removal of fuel subsidy committee and I recall how we removed the phase 1 and phase 2 of fuel subsidy.

‘’I will continue from where we stopped, remove fuel subsidy totally and channel the subsidy funds back to the economy. In other words, it’s just a fraud.”

At a point in time and in accordance with their manifestos, each of the candidates promised to end insecurity, which is one of the serious challenges facing the country.

One thing is certain, whoever wins the election, Nigerians will keep tab on the promises made by such candidate to see how they will be fulfilled.

Predication: More suffering for Nigerians in 2023 – NGO says

The report by the National Bureau of Statistics that about 133 million Nigerians live in poverty would be a recipe for a new dimension of hunger never witnessed in Nigeria, a civil society organisation under the aegis of the International Human Rights Commission warned on Friday.

While describing the report as a warning of a looming economic crisis in the country, the not-for-profit body, stressed the need for government to empower people in the rural communities to reduce the rising poverty in Nigeria.

The Ambassador at Large and Head of Diplomatic Missions of IHRC in Nigeria, Dr Duru Hezekiah, stated this during the presentation of food items and cash to over 150 low-income earners and Persons With Disabilities.

The gifts which came ahead of the Christmas celebration were to cushion the effects of the growing inflation.

The NBS had reported that 133 million Nigerians were multi-dimensionally poor, saying that the figure represents 63 per cent of the country’s population.

The report blamed the country’s rising poverty on poor access to education, living standards, health, employment and security.

Another report by NBS on Thursday revealed that Nigeria’s inflation rate has risen to its highest level since September 2005 when the rate stood at 24.32 per cent.

The current inflation stands at 21.47 per cent.

But reacting to the statistics by the NBS, Hezekiah warned that the poverty rate, if not urgently addressed, would be a recipe for disaster.

He said, “We are really in an economic crisis. And if it’s not checked, I tell you, the time is coming when will go into a fiasco, a time is coming when in fact, Nigeria will be declared a ‘hunger country’ and that is why we are still appealing to the government.

“In International Human Rights Commission, we don’t believe in protests. We don’t believe in riots.

“We believe in dialogue and negotiation. And so we keep appealing to the government, advising them on way forward to find a lasting solution. I know we might not be able to eradicate poverty 100 per cent but I tell you the growth of a nation begins with the growth of the people. If the people are happy, if the people are well taken care of, there will be growth. Look at the developed countries today.

“The rate of poverty is low compared to us here. So if governments want to be true to themselves, they should help us by empowering these people so that they can be able to cope with the level of inflation.”

Speaking on the choice of beneficiaries for the gifts, the IHRC boss said many Nigerians were languishing under the scourge of poverty and social vulnerability, adding that for most of them, the Yuletide season comes no with no substance with which to carry out any celebration.

He said, “It is in awareness of this that we must commend the brain and drive behind this annual end-of-year giveaway programme for the vulnerable.

“Further still, in recognition of its targeting specifically of women from selected rural areas of the Federal Capital Territory to comprise the beneficiaries of this year’s edition, I wish to reiterate that the choice could be no more appropriate, for women, being natural home-makers, have the majority of those rural households depending on them for the possibility of love, joy and laughter this season.

“For us as humanitarians to feast freely and draw the year to close with joy in our hearts, we must ensure that there is some justice in our world and

society as manifested through equitable, or at least charitable.”

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, the Secretary-General of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities, FCT, Chris Agbo, said most of the 133 million Nigerians in poverty are PWDs who have restricted opportunities.

While commending the IHRC for the gesture, he said, “Most of us suffer a lot of discrimination. The offices where we will even move to earn living are not accessible to them. And a whole lot of other opportunities that we don’t really have and thus, it is a very serious thing that we will begin to see how to include persons with disabilities in whatever we do, and attempt to try to curb poverty without including persons with disabilities is only a joke.”

Qatar 2022: Lionel Messi pinpoints two reasons Argentina beat France to win World Cup final

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi has suggested that his team defeated France to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar because they fought ‘together and were united’ during the encounter to achieve their aim.

A brace from Messi, a goal from Angel di Maria and a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe ensured Argentina and France drew 3-3 in the World Cup final clash after 120 minutes at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

Argentina went on to beat France 4-2 on a penalty shoot-out.

Speaking after the game, Messi, in a post via his Instagram account, also said that the merit of Lionel Scalon’s side is above individuals.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward wrote: “So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don’t fall, I can’t believe it……

“Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We prove once again that Argentinians, when we fight together and united we are able to achieve what we aim.

“The merit of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the one of all Argentinians… We did it!!!”

Alert! Fake new N1,000 notes in circulation — PoS operator (Video)

The newly introduced N1,000 notes are now being counterfeited.

Banks issued the redesigned notes on December 15, 2022, in accordance with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive.

However, days after the release, the husband of an unnamed Point of Sale operator displayed fake N1,000 notes to the public.

He claimed the notes were given to his wife by a customer.

He then demonstrated to the world the difference between genuine and counterfeit N1,000 notes.

Recall that the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) redesigned the N200, N500 and N1,000 notes respectively.

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, made the disclosure at a special press briefing in Abuja.

Emefiele announced that the introduction of the new naira notes would take effect from December 15, 2022.

He further disclosed that over 80 per cent of the total cash in circulation was outside the banking system.

Morocco Officially contest their 2-0 defeat by France

The Morocco FA has filed an official complaint to FIFA over the performance of referee Cesar Ramos after last night’s World Cup semi-final defeat to France.

The Atlas Lions were defeated 2-0 by Didier Deschamps’s side who ended their historic run at the tournament, with Morocco becoming the first-ever African side to reach the final four of a World Cup.

They slammed the ‘grotesque refereeing’ and claimed Ramos had denied them ‘two obvious penalties’ during the first half of the clash.

In a statement on their website, the Moroccan FA also said: ‘The Royal Moroccan Football Federation strongly protested the refereeing of the Moroccan national team match against the French national team, led by Cesar Ramos.

‘The Royal Moroccan Football Federation affirms that it will not hesitate to defend the rights of our team, calling for fairness in taking the necessary measures, regarding the refereeing injustice practised on the Moroccan national team in its match against the French national team in the semi-final of the World Cup.’

In one particular incident in the first half,  Morocco forward Sofiane Boufal was booked after appearing to be taken out by France left-back Theo Hernandez in the box.

Hakim Ziyech had found space inside Hernandez before the French defender then recovered, but a heavy touch inside the box saw him collide with Boufal.

The collision was given in favour of France, with referee Ramos punishing the former Southampton player with a yellow card. But replays suggest that the decision could have easily gone in favour of Morocco by way of a penalty.

Over 5M Nigerians will be pushed into poverty in 2022 – World Bank warns

The World Bank says five million Nigerians have been pushed into poverty as a result of inflation in 2022.

The Bretton Woods institution said this in its latest Nigeria Development Update (NDU) released on Thursday.

In the report titled ‘Nigeria’s Choice’, the bank said the country’s inflation has worsened since 2020, eroding the purchasing power of Nigerians and increasing poverty.

“The World Bank estimates that between 2020 and 2021, inflation pushed about eight million more Nigerians below the poverty line, increasing the total number of poor people to about 90 million,” the report reads.

“Higher inflation in 2022 is estimated to have pushed an additional five million Nigerians into poverty between January and September 2022, mainly through higher prices of local staples, such as rice, bread, yam, and wheat, especially in non-rural areas.”

GROWTH FORECAST: FROM 3.8% TO 3.1%

The World Bank also reduced Nigeria’s 2022 growth forecast to 3.1 percent from a previous forecast of 3.8 percent.

This, the bank explained, is due to Nigeria’s slow economic growth amid declining oil output and reduced non-oil activity.

According to the bank, Nigeria’s fiscal pressures have intensified, exacerbated by the soaring cost of the petrol subsidy which will likely exceed N5 trillion this year.

“Despite higher oil export revenues, official reserves have fallen, and the currency market is severely distorted, undermining the business environment and investment,” the World Bank said.

“The weaknesses in the macroeconomic policy framework are suppressing growth and making Nigeria more vulnerable to shocks.”

“Nigeria’s economic growth has slowed on the back of declining oil output and moderating non-oil activity.

“Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 3.1 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in the first three quarters of 2022, little more than the annual population growth of 2.6 percent.

“Nigeria’s growth performance, and its fiscal and external buffers, have decoupled from high oil prices, and macroeconomic vulnerabilities have increased.”

‘NIGERIA MUST MAKE URGENT CHOICES’

To reduce its vulnerability to crisis and improve its potential, the World Bank said Nigeria has to make urgent choices.

The bank recommended reform choices that Nigeria can make in three key areas.

“Restoring macroeconomic stability through measures to reduce the domestic and external imbalances. This will require a coordinated mix of exchange rate, trade, monetary, and fiscal policies, notably including adopting a single, market-responsive exchange rate, eliminating the petrol subsidy, and increasing oil and non-oil revenues,” the bank said.

“Boosting private sector development and competitiveness by eliminating structural constraints that hinder productivity; and
“Expanding social protection to protect the poor and most vulnerable.”

Alex Sienaert, World Bank lead economist for Nigeria and co-author of the report, said: “Previous episodes of reform progress and high growth, such as in the 2000s, show that Nigeria’s economy can turn around quickly, and its tremendous economic potential that could be unleashed is well-known.

“If Nigeria chooses to make reforms that stabilize its macro-fiscal policy settings and support investment, this would be transformative for 80 million poor Nigerians, for Nigeria as a whole, and for Africa.”

Shubham Chaudhuri, World Bank country director for Nigeria, advised the country to make “business-unusual choices” to avoid a scenario in which up to 80 million working-age Nigerians do not have full-time jobs by 2030 — and up to 23 million more Nigerians could be living in extreme poverty.

Putin says no Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine, Zelensky slams back

Russia has ruled out a “Christmas ceasefire” after nearly 10 months of war in Ukraine and rejected a call by Kyiv to start withdrawing troops by Christmas as a sign it was willing to end Europe’s biggest conflict since World War Two.

Russia and Ukraine are not currently engaged in talks to end the fighting, with both sides making little to no gains the last couple of months.

But on Wednesday, December 14, Ukraine experienced the first major drone attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv in weeks. Two administrative buildings were hit, but air defences largely repelled the attack. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said 13 drones had been shot down.

Zelenskiy said this week that Russia should start withdrawing by Christmas as a step to end the conflict, but Moscow rejected the proposal, saying Ukraine must accept the loss of territory to Russia before any progress can be made.

Asked on Wednesday whether Moscow had seen proposals for a “Christmas ceasefire,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: “No, no such offers have been received from anybody. This topic is not on the agenda.”

Tens of thousands of people have been killed, millions more displaced and cities reduced to rubble since Russia invaded its neighbour on Feb. 24, saying it needed to protect Russian speakers from Ukrainian far-right nationlists. Kyiv and its allies call it an unprovoked war of choice

*******************

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky and his top commanders say they expect a new offensive by Russia early in the new year.

Days after the Kremlin said Ukraine must recognize new realities, including Russia’s recent annexation of four Ukrainian regions, Zelensky repeated that Ukraine would make no concessions.

In a series of interviews with The Economist, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky say they are in no mood to compromise on their ultimate goals.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and months ago announced annexation of four Ukranian regions – Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Luhansk even though they don’t completely control any of those areas.

Ukraine has made territorial gains in recent months using US weapons and on Thursday, December 15, Zelensky repeated that Ukraine’s aim was to retrieve the land it held when it became independent in 199 including Crimea.

“If he [Putin] now withdraws to the 1991 borders then the possible path of diplomats will begin. That is who can really turn the war from a military path to a diplomatic one. Only he can do it.” he sai

Zelensky said some 95% of Ukrainian people do not want to compromise on territory. “The issue is deeper than land. No one wants to have a dialogue with these people who unleashed [the war].”

Zelensky added that it was “a little scary” to visit recently liberated towns and witness how the occupation had changed people.

“I must admit that this propaganda model of the Kremlin — it works.” It had changed Ukrainians in occupied territories. They were like “astronauts who cannot take off heavy helmets — limiting what they can see to unrelenting disinformation.”

The overall military commander in Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny, said he expected a new Russian offensive in the new year.

“They [Russian forces] are 100% being prepared,” he said.

A major Russian attack could come “in February, at best in March and at worst at the end of January”, he said. And it could come anywhere: in Donbas, where Putin is eager to capture the remainder of Donetsk province; in the south, towards the city of Dnipro; even towards Kyiv.

Nnamdi Kanu Narrates How DSS Has Denied Him Access to Drugs, Food and Money For a Week

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday, accused the Department of State Services, DSS, of denying him access to his medications for nine days.

He also accused the secret police of starving him of food.

Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor disclosed this after his routine meeting with the IPOB leader at the DSS facility.

A tweet by Ejimakor reads: “Special Update: Today, I visited #MNK in the company of Prince Emma Kanu & Barr. Nnaemeka Ejiofor.

“He instructed me to make it public that he has not been given his drugs for the past 9 days & he has not eaten today because DSS says that they don’t have money to buy his food. #Sad.”

Ejimakor said the legal team has decided to give the DSS money to purchase food for Kanu.

“We have decided to take money to them as a deposit for his food. They won’t allow food brought by others, including family,” he told DAILY POST upon further inquiry.

Ex. Osun State Governor collected N18B loan after losing election – Adeleke

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, took N18 billion loan after he lost the July 16th, 2022 Osun governorship election.
Adeleke said this on Thursday during a meeting with Osun State Traditional Rulers at Osogbo, Osun State Capital, where he also confirmed that the state is indebted to the tune of N407.32 billion as of November 30th, 2022.

According to Adeleke, “my administration inherited eight outstanding loan facilities, apart from salaries and pension debts, from Governor Oyetola’s administration.

“My good people of Osun state, the total loan stock as of today is N331.32 Billion.

“If the N76 billion debt on salaries and pension are added, the state is indebted to the tune of N407.32 billion. The amount owed to contractors is yet to be determined.

“The only fund in government coffers, as of Monday 29th November, was for November 2022 Salary. Otherwise, the state treasury was empty.

Read Also: I didn’t hire 12,000 workers, says Oyetola
“As your governor, I will ask questions on your behalf. And will demand answers,” Adeleke told the traditional rulers.

He added, “Governor Oyetola must explain how the N331 Billion borrowed in the name of Osun State was expended, with no obvious infrastructural development to justify this huge debt.

“Governor Oyetola must explain how the N18 Billion Bridge Loan taken after he lost the election on July 16, 2022, was expended.

“Governor Oyetola must also explain why Osun state is owing salaries and pension to the tune of N76 Billion after collecting a N50 Billion Salary Bail Out Loan from the Federal Government

“The creditors, especially the Commercial Banks must explain why various loans were given to an administration beyond its 4-year tenure. 28 years is equivalent to the tenure of at least four governors. A child that is born today would have earned a Ph.D. at 28 years of age. This is nothing but mortgaging the future of Osun State with nothing to show for it. This is definitely not acceptable.”

Kudirat Abiola’s Children Sues FG for $10m Over the assassination of their mother

Three children of the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola have dragged the federal government before the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice in Abuja, demanding $10 million damages over the assassination of their mother by an alleged killer squad of the late head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha.

The applicants, Khafila Abiola, Moriam Abiola and Hadi Abiola, sued for themselves and on behalf of the other children of Kudirat.

In the suit number ECW/CCJ/APP/62/2022 filed on their behalf by their lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), they challenged the “violation of the fundamental human rights to life and dignity of the human person of their late mother.”

The applicants argued that, “the failure or refusal of the defendant to protect the life of the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola in the Republic of Nigeria amounts to a violation of Articles 1,4,5,18 and 23 of the African Charter.”

They therefore asked the court for an order directing the defendant to charge Sergeant Barnabas Jebila (a.k.a. Rogers) Mohammed Abdul (aka Katako) and Aminu Mohammed with murder for the brutal killing of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola in Lagos on June 4, 1996.

The applicants said, “The combined effect of the said provisions of the African Charter and the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria is that states will be held responsible if they fail to act with due diligence to prevent violations of the rights or actively involved act which amount to the violation of the plaintiff right (as in this case), and for providing adequate compensation.

The children further argued that, “under the combined provisions of Articles 1, 4 and 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights to which Federal Republic of Nigeria is a signatory, the respondent has infringed on the right of the deceased to life, dignity of her person and security.”

The suit, which was filed yesterday, read in part: “The applicants aver that the late Mrs. Kudirat Abiola was married to the late Chief MKO Abiola, a Nigerian and community citizen. Chief MKO Abiola contested and won the presidential election held in Nigeria on June 12, 1993. The selection which was adjudged fair and free by local and international election observers was annulled by the Ibrahim Babangida military junta without any legal justification.

“Instead of relinquishing power to the late Chief MKO Abiola, the Ibrahim Babangida junta illegally installed an Interim National Government headed by Chief Ernest Shonekan on August 27, 1993. On November 10, 1993, the Lagos State High Court declared the Interim National Government illegal, null and void.

“On November 17, 1993, General Sani Abacha removed the illegal Interim National Government and declared himself the military head of state. In June 1994, Chief MKO Abiola was arrested for announcing himself as the elected President of Nigeria on the basis of the June 12, 1992 presidential election won by him.

“The Sani Abacha military junta charged Chief MKO Abiola with treasonable felony and detained him in solitary confinement in an undisclosed detention centre for four years without trial. Chief Abiola’s wife, Mrs Kudirat Abiola led a campaign for the unconditional release of her husband from illegal custody and inauguration as the elected President of Nigeria.

“Angered by her pro-democracy campaign, the Sani Abacha military junta decided to assassinate Mrs Kudirat Abiola. On June 4, 1996, Mrs Kudirat Abiola was shot dead in her car at Oregun area in Lagos, Nigeria by unknown gunmen.

“The military government condemned the assassination of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola and announced its plan to investigate the arrest and prosecute the murderers. But in order to divert public attention from the actual murderers the military regime arrested some political allies and family members of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola, detained them briefly and released them.”

“Following the restoration of civil rule in May 1999, the Olusegun Obasanjo Administration set up the Justice Chukwudifu Oputa Commission of Enquiry to investigate the gross human rights abuse that occurred during the defunct military rule from 1966-1999. In a petition submitted to the Oputa Panel the Applicants requested for investigation of the circumstances surrounding the brutal killing of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola by a gang of gunmen in Lagos on June 4, 1996.”

“During the sitting of the Oputa panel in Lagos on December 8, 2000, Sergeant Barnabas Jabila (aka Sergeant Rogers), a member of the killer squad set up by the Sani Abacha junta confessed that he shot Mrs Kudirat Abiola dead and attempted to kill the late Senator Abraham Adesanya and Alex Ibru by shooting them on the instructions of the Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the chief security officer of General Sani Abacha, from November 1993 to June 1998.

“The evidence of Sergeant Rogers was not challenged by Major Al-Mustapha and his lawyers as they did not cross examine the witness because of the veracity of his evidence. A copy of the video tape of the oral testimony of Sergeant Rogers is hereby attached and marked Exhibit A.”

“Major Al-Mustapha and some members of the killer squad were charged with conspiracy to murder and accessory after the fact to murder Mrs Kudirat Abiola at the Lagos High Court. At the end of the trial, the defendants were convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola by the Lagos High Court.”

“But the appeal filed by the convicts against the judgment of the Lagos High Court was allowed by the Court of Appeal which freed them on technical grounds.”

“The Supreme Court of Nigeria has granted leave to the Lagos State Government to appeal against the judgment of the Court of Appeal and the appeal which has been filed is currently pending at the Supreme Court.”

“In Mohammed Abacha vs The State (2002) 31 WRN 1, the Supreme Court quashed the charge on the ground that the Appellant was not implicated in the murder of Mrs Kudirat Abiola.”

“The apex court said that Major Al-Mustapha was properly charged with conspiracy, murder and accessory after the fact to murder Mrs Kudirat Abiola but queried why Sergeant Barnabas Jabila (a.k.a Rogers), Mohammed Abdul (aka Katako) and Aminu Mohammed who killed Mrs Kudirat Abiola who actually killed Mrs Kudirat Abiola were not charged with murder.”

“In spite of the finding of the Supreme Court the defendant has not charged Sergeant Barnabas Jabila (a.k.a Rogers), Mohammed Abdul (aka Katako) and Aminu Mohammed with the murder of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola in any court of law.”

“The Applicants aver that the killing of Mrs Kudirat Abiola by the armed agents of the defendant is illegal and a violation of her human rights to life and dignity.”

“The father of the applicants, Chief MKO Abiola was reported to have died in military custody on July 7, 1998. The Oputa Panel recommended that the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Chief Abiola be investigated but the defendant has refused to implement the recommendation.”

“In recognition of the presidential election won by Chief Abiola on June 12, 1993, the federal government has conferred the national honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on him posthumously and declared June 12 as a public holiday in Nigeria.”

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.

“EFCC behind my ordeals” – Ekweremadu alleges

Former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has told Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was responsible for his travails at the London Court where he had been in detention over alleged organ harvest.

Ekweremadu, who has been in custody in London over an alleged organ harves, told the Federal High Court that the EFCC wrote a letter to the London Court which made the foreign court refuse to admit him to bail.

His allegations were contained in an application he filed before the court seeking an order of the court to set aside interim order granted in favour of the Federal Government for forfeiture of his 40 properties in the country and outside the country.

The former Deputy Senate President in the application by his counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), claimed that the forfeiture order was granted to the Federal Government in error because the EFCC suppressed information and facts in respect of the properties.

Ekweremadu, therefore, prayed the court to set aside the forfeiture order and stay proceedings in the matter until he resolves his ordeal before the London Court.

However, counsel to the EFCC, Silvanus Tahir (SAN), denied that the commission was behind Ekweremadu’s ordeal.

While admitting that EFCC wrote the London Court based on a special request, he said that it was a normal routine for anti-graft agencies to exchange information that would be of help to one another.

Tahir did not oppose the request for a stay of proceedings till Ekweremadu fully resolve his matter before the London Court but however, vehemently opposed the request for setting aside the forfeiture order.

Justice Ekwo after taking arguments from parties fixed January 25 next year for ruling in the matter.

The Court had on Friday, November 4 ordered interim forfeiture of 40 landed property linked to Ekweremadu in some parts of the country and outside the country.

Justice Ekwo issued the order following an ex -parte motion filed and moved by Ibrahim Buba, lawyer to the EFCC.

The Judge, who granted the motion, ordered the EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order of the property in a national daily within seven days.

He had directed anybody who has an interest in the forfeited property to indicate within 14 days of the publication of the interim forfeiture order why the property should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

OPINION: Artificial Womb Factory by Abdu Rafiu

Have you heard? A scientist has made some progress on the construction of an artificial womb facility in which 30,000 babies can be produced. It is said it is a development on the breakthrough scientists made in that direction in 2017. It offers the possibility for parents to have customized babies.

I first got a hint of this, reportedly the “world’s first” of such facility code named ‘Ectolife,’ from a video forwarded to me with the footnote stating frighteningly as follows: “We’re watching as these globalists are moving us towards a future where a transhumanist agenda is carried out…where gender is dissolved, where biological women are no longer needed.” The footnote adds, “Today the Cambridge dictionary updated its definition of women to include men. And now a German molecular biologist unveiled a new concept for the world’s first artificial womb facility called Ectolife which would incubate up to 30,000 babies a year.”

If I may quote Firstpost, an online publication extensively, it reads: “Ectolife is a concept that offers parents to ‘produce’ customized babies with the help of artificial wombs. An ‘Elite Package’ would allow people to choose their baby’s level of intelligence, height, hair, eye colour, physical strength and even skin tone. Have you ever imagined a baby being ‘produced’ in a factory-like environment?” The report then makes plain that Ectolife is only a concept for now. We are told it is the “brainchild of Berlin-based Hashem Al-Ghaili, a producer, a filmmaker and science communicator and ‘molecular biologist by trade.”

There will be five years of public awareness and education to help people become more receptive to the technology. Altogether, it will take upwards of 10 years for the facility to become a reality. The digital edition of the Mirror in the United Kingdom quotes Al-Ghaili as saying, “Every single feature mentioned in the concept is 100 per cent science-based and has already been achieved by scientists and engineers.”

How does the facility work? According to the Mirror online: “‘An Elite package’ would allow the embryo genetic engineering before implanting it into the artificial womb.” There is a gene editing device called CRISPR-Cas 9. With the tool, ‘you can edit any trait of your baby through a wide range of over 300 genes. The technology would also let parents “fix any inherited genetic diseases. The facility is aimed at helping to curb the problem of declining population in some countries “such as Japan, Bulgaria, and South Korea among others.” It is also aimed at helping childless couples to become parents of their own biological children. Women will have an option to have children without going through pregnancy or even conception. It is going to be a solution for women who have had their uterus excised as result of diseases such as cancer. Experts are upbeat about the development. Without doubt when the artificial womb facility comes to fruition, it will bring hope and joy to countless couples and mankind will hail it as another giant stride in the life of man, and a triumph of technological wonders over nature, after all the first product of In Vitro Fertilization hailed at the time as You Tube baby is 45 years old this year.

Louise Brown was born on 25 July 1977 at Oldham and District General Hospital, Manchester, United Kingdom. Louise has gone on herself to have her own baby boy, but naturally. Her younger sister, Natalie, also a product of In Vitro Fertilization, was the first of the You Tube Babies to later in life conceive and give birth to her baby naturally. Their being mothers without the assistance of technology eased concerns about consequences in store from IVF experiment. Confident is the world today that there are about six million in different parts of the world produced through technological device called IVF. Leslie and her husband, John Brown, thus opened the floodgates for IVF babies and their mothers. It is such success that makes man to come to the false conclusion that he has mastered Nature and is its conqueror. But is he? Time will as yet tell.

Time Magazine in its digital edition recalls the skepticisms that greeted the coming of the first test tube babies, even by scientists, in many cases outright rejection of the IVF device. It recalls British Geneticist Robert J. Berry saying in his remarks at the time: “We’re on a slippery slope. Western society is built around the family; once you divorce sex from procreation what happens to the family?” The first baby born in the United States through the IVF treatment was in 1981. Since then all over the world what started slowly with a wait-and-see attitude has grown into a surge. In 2016, in a month alone there were more than 70, 000 births through IVF.

The order in Creation is that where procreation takes place there is an exchange of radiations between a woman and a man. The exchange triggers radiation activity in the woman which sends forth a tone to a hovering soul desirous of incarnating. A soul compatible or who needs to come through her to satisfy Karmaic bond is selected from among many. Elemental beings then set to work, in elaborate activities of fashioning the astral body model, the version of what the growing body will be like as well as the prospective baby’s fine threads of fate connected with its soul, its balance sheet showing credit and debit of its past earthlife. In the In Vitro fertilization, the supposed weaving between the longing mother and the soul out there in her vicinity is outsourced to the surrogate mother to whose womb the eggs and sperm are parceled. Even where a woman conceives with donor eggs and sperm prepared from outside her body, but through a test tube, the initial heat and radiation triggered from exchange of fluids between the couple are missing.

Thus radiation-bridge which only a woman is, by nature, capable of lending for attraction is lacking. The radiation-bridge arises from the delicate intuitive faculty special only to a woman and her blood radiation which also plays a decisive role. It is after the elemental beings fashion the prototype body that the fertilized egg begins to split, forming tissues, organs, systems, and connecting channel between the soul and the prospective mother. In cases fallopian tube has been blocked it is the surrogate mother that provides the connecting channel of radiations normally between the soul and prospective mother. It is the soul itself that supplies the threads which it has gathered in the course of its wanderings with which the elemental beings weave its carpet of fate. The elemental beings work in perfection, incorruptibility and absolute loyalty in the service of the Most High.

If there may be concerns about hidden fall-out of IVF in perhaps non-foreseeable future, what then can be said about likely consequences of artificial womb facility into which an embryo, a product of genetical engineering, is implanted? The radiation bridge, unique only to women because of abundant spiritual endowments and which is a connection channel for attraction of a soul and weaving of threads, will undoubtedly be missing. The new device is aimed at curbing deaths that occur from pregnancy complications which according to World Health Organization report stands about 300,000 a year. It is believed it will reduce human suffering and cut down on the number of C-sections. Artificial womb is brandished as a device full of promise as it is expected to make premature births and C-section history.

It is one thing for a programme to be well-intentioned; it is, however, another for it to be in conformity with the Laws of Nature which bear and manifest the Will of the Almighty Creator and which are decisive in all matters. Whatever runs contrary to them cannot endure. They are perfect, self-acting Laws operating in the entire Creation. They are also known as Divine Laws. Collapse awaits anything or activity that oppose them no matter how long it takes. As I have pointed out repeatedly in these pages, every activity is a seed planted in the soil of life. All activities can only have foundation if they conform to these Laws which ensure that every seed goes through the whole gamut of germination and maturation processes and then harvest. The harvest awaiting mankind in embracing Artificial Womb Facility, also called Ectolife, is not hard to contemplate—sooner or later. Your guess is as good as mine!

Five-Year Old Recalls Past Life
Despite overwhelming evidence of reincarnation in different cultures, controversies still trail the concept and the phenomenon. Reincarnation is re-embodiment of a soul that passed away some time past. How long the departed relation takes to return is immaterial. The concept is reflected in names in parts of Nigeria such as Babatunde meaning the father who passed away has returned to the family. Yetunde, Nnenna, Nnenne; Iyatunde, Iyabo, all meaning the mother or grandmother is back on earth in the family. In China and India, the culture is pervading. That there is an English name for the concept means it is not only an African concept. The cycle of a man’s life is thus described as incarnation, birth and reincarnation. If we go by the revelation in higher knowledge available on earth today that each person is the name he bears, it can be seen that the concept is proven. As we are not given to be able to survey the past life of a relation or child, we may not be able to say with precision who among the past relations is back. It suffices to note that the name a child bears is not an accident. It is whispered close to christening by the soul itself in the womb to whoever is receptive to capture it. It could be the mother herself, the father, the priest or a relation. Reincarnation is to further the development and maturity of the spirit in the course of its sojourn even if a soul has no burden from previous earthlives to atone for or debit to settle. If there are weaknesses to drop, reincarnation provides the opportunity to work at them and drop them. It has been stated so often that life on earth is a school. Our schools and colleges are patterned after the school of life. We move from the lowest to the highest that the school has to offer and move away upon passing the final examinations. Re-sit examinations are the same as reincarnation. The wiz-kid, that is, “child prodigies” phenomenon finds its explanation in reincarnation as it is a carry-over of consolidation of expression of talents and abilities from a previous earthlife or earthlives—what Henry Ford, the renowned industrialist, was reported to have described as “…fruit of lengthy experiences gained in many lives.” Such children are old souls in young bodies. Henry Ford added: “But I must first explain that I believe that we are born again. You and I, we are reborn many times, live many lives and store up a wealth of experiences…” (A Gate Opens by Herbert Vollmann: Incarnation and Rebirth). Christian and Reincarnation by Stephen Lampe deals extensively on the issue of reincarnation. Indeed, circumstances of births also find explanations in reincarnation. There is no one today that is living on earth for the first time. Every human being has had many lives behind him.

The account of the five-year old boy reads: “Little Luke Ruehlman, 5, spooked his parents at age 2 when he began incessantly insisting that he used to live a previous life as an African-American woman called Pam Robinson who jumped to her death to escape the flames inside Paxton Hotel in Chicago.

“His mother, Erika, said the five-year-old had started to scare her a little after he began speaking about a woman she had never heard of named Pam. After questioning her young son about the random woman to find out who she was, Luke revealed the starling truth about his alleged past life.”

“Luke’s family, who live in Cincinnati, Ohio, said their son told them he travelled by train in Chicago despite them never taking him there, reports The Sun. Erika decided to research the bizarre claims and was shocked to find out that Pam was named one of 19 victims who died from the fire in 1993. Luke recalled eerie details about how he tried to escape the burning building and spoke about the moment he ‘met God.’ Erika says he also speaks about other moments that he ‘remembered’ from his past life. ‘He used to say, “When I was a girl, I had black hair” or he would say, “I used to have earrings like that when I was a girl,” she said.’

“Producers of paranormal investigations TV show ‘The Ghost Inside My Child’ have also delved into Luke’s case. During the show, the little boy was shown a page of pictures of different black women aged in their 30s and was asked to find the late Pam Robinson. Surprisingly, he was able to pick her out within the first go, according to the footage.

“Following the creepy development, Luke’s mum decided to reach out to Pam’s family. She said they described her personality and it revealed shocking similarities between Pam and Luke, such as their love for Steve Wonder and playing on the keyboard.”

Erika had told Fox 8 television: ‘He turned to me and said, “Well I was.” ‘(He said) “Well, I used to be, but I died and I went up to heaven. I saw God and then eventually, God pushed me back down and I was a baby and you named me Luke.”

There is no one today, no single person that is living on earth for the first time. Every human being, we learn in higher knowledge, has lived on earth before, some even up to 30 times or more, depending on their stages of spiritual development, their maturity and ennoblement as no particle of dirt, that is sin can be carried beyond material realms. Are we not told in the Scriptures, Matthew 5:26: Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out of thence, till thou has paid the utmost farthing”? In Revelation 19:8 we read: “And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” The veil drawn over our faces that prevents a man from surveying his past is for our own good. It is so that we do not concentrate on the past and neglect the present. How, for example, would a former president of a nation or an emperor feel if he were to come back and find himself a dish washer in an hotel in a rundown part of a city? Regret and bitter self-recrimination will not allow him do anything, drop his shortcomings that landed him in his present state and make progress. The veil is also so that we do not work to the answer in grappling with our tasks. Only a handful are granted the Grace and mostly in childhood days. Five-year-old Luke Ruehlman is one of them.

Pastor and son nabbed for allegedly using church’s COVID loan to buy $3.7M mansion in the US

A Florida pastor and his son were arrested Wednesday. Dec. 14, for allegedly fraudulently obtaining $8.4 million in COVID relief funds and using most of it to purchase of a luxury mansion on Disney World property.

Evan Edwards and his son Josh — the respective president and vice president of the so-called ASLAN International Ministry — were taken into federal custody from their family home in New Smyrna Beach, NBC News reported.

The arrest came after the Edwards’ Paycheck Protection Program funds were seized by the Secret Service way back in April 2020 after the feds suspected their family ministry was bogus.

Josh applied for the loan in April 2020, claiming his family’s religious nonprofit ASLAN had 486 employees and a $2.7 million monthly payroll, according to a federal forfeiture complaint.

ASLAN’s actual number of employees and payroll expenses were “significantly lower, or entirely nonexistent,” the indictment states.

Though they asked for $6 million, the family ministry — which also appointed Evan’s daughter, Joy Edwards, as secretary — was approved for a whopping $8,417,261.38 the following month.

The Edwards then allegedly moved the funds across various bank accounts linked to members of their family, feds said.

About $868,250 was sent to a Royal Bank of Canada account in Evan’s wife Mary Janes Edward’s name before it was used to purchase a $3.7 million 4,700-square-foot house on Orlando’s Symphony Grove Drive, a property that is part of Disney World’s Golden Oak development, according to the feds.

Federal officials visited the New Smyrna Beach home in September 2020 to find the house cleared out.

The next day, Florida police stopped a car for speeding to find all four Edwards members inside with luggage and apparent evidence of their schemes, though they claimed they were going to a conference in Texas, according to past federal court filing.

The family, originally from Canada, was taken into custody on an immigration charge but was released the next day NY Post reports.

Following orders from a judge, the Edwards returned the $8.4 million in its entirety in April 2021.

Evan and Josh were hit with six charges, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud and visa fraud.

Sit-at-home Order: Allow Nnamdi Kanu address media – HURIWA tells Buhari

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to address the media to put an end to the confusion surrounding the sit-at-home order in the South East.

This is following a series of skirmishes and targeted violence and attacks masterminded by some armed supporters of the Finland-based Simon Ekpa.

People living and doing business in the South East have been under siege in recent months as they cannot go about their legitimate businesses.

The IPOB’s leadership has, on many occasions, distanced itself from any sit-at-home, urging Nigerians living in the zone to go about their legitimate business but that has not stopped the killing of people in the South East in the name of sit-at-home.

There have been stories of killings and maiming of innocent Nigerians who alter the sit-at-home order for one reason or the other, as the South East is shut down every Monday and on other occasions.

And now HURIWA, through a statement signed by its national coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, is calling on Buhari to let Kanu personally address the media affirming and categorically confirming the suspension of the sit-at-home order.

HURIWA has also criticised the law enforcement agents and the Department of State Services for the failure of intelligence to nip in the bud the dozens of bloody attacks effectively.

HURIWA accused the Police and the other security agencies in the South East of being happy watching the commoners being decimated, degraded and almost on the verge of being wiped off the earth.

“The President should let Mazi Nnamdi Kanu speak to Igbo people to affirm or deny the report by his lawyers that he had ordered an end to the Sit-at-home order which one Mr. Simon Ekpa an alleged follower of the detained leader disputed and ordered for forceful implementation of the so called Sit-at-home order,” HURIWA pleaded.

The group further pointed out that a live television broadcast by Kanu on the confusion surrounding the sit-at-home order would assuage the suspended animation and suspicions “by some persons loyal to Simon Ekpa that Nnamdi Kanu did not order an end to the economically stagnating sit-at-home order in the South East of Nigeria.

“Secondly, just as was done in Ukraine, President Muhammadu Buhari should democratise arms licences so sane adult Nigerians can bear AK-47 and AK-49.

“If President Muhammadu Buhari is not the sponsor of the chaos in the South-East then let his government adopt a pragmatic approach such as permitting that Kanu addresses the media as a matter of extreme urgency to put an end to these killings,” it said.

Court orders police to pay Kanu’s supporter N50M

Justice Z.B. Abubakar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered for the unconditional release of Mazi Solomon Onyegbule, one of the supporters of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The court also awarded N50 million as “compensatory and exemplary damages.”

The lawyer to Kanu and IPOB, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said this in a statement he issued on Tuesday evening, accompanied by the Certified True Copy of the judgment.

He said, “While delivering judgment in suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/137/2022, we had filed on behalf of Solomon Onyegbule, the court directed the Inspector-General of Police to unconditionally release Mazi Onyegbule from their custody forthwith.

“The Court further awarded the sum of N50 million only in favour of Solomon Onyegbule as compensatory and exemplary damages.

“The court also ordered the Inspector General of Police tenders a public apology to Mazi Solomon in one national newspaper.

“We shall keep doing everything within our powers to ensure that Umuchineke unlawfully detained in various facilities of the security agencies across the country are released and compensated for their unlawful arrests and detentions.”

Ejiofor also gave an update on the visit to Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services

He said, We visited Onyendu, being Monday, December 12, 2022, at the DSS Headquarters, Abuja, to provide him with relevant updates on pending actions on the appeal filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria at the Supreme Court, against the Judgment of the Court of Appeal, which discharged and prohibited further detention and/or trial/prosecution of Oyendu Nnamdi Kanu.

“We observed in the course of our briefing that apart from the fact that it is glaring even in layman’s view, that the Federal Government has practically abandoned the appeal by their deliberate refusal to file any court process in prosecuting the appeal, which they initiated against the judgment of the Court of Appeal, there is the need to let the world know, as directed by Onyendu, that those presently responsible for the delay in assigning a date for the speedy hearing of this appeal before the Apex Court are the same people/institution who are relentlessly funding the criminal activities of the soulless elements who are fully paid to destroy our sacred land.

“Otherwise, the expeditious hearing of this appeal will determine the release/freedom of Onyendu and will leave the criminal elements with no other option than to immediately vacate/desert our land. Onyendu encourages everyone, most particularly, Foreign Governments and institutions to prevail on the judiciary to assign a date for the hearing of his appeal. Onyendu did not rule out plausible pressure from those who have been decimated in their own court, but he is insisting that justice must be done and seen to be done in his case.

“Onyendu cited the instance where the Court was expeditious in granting an Order staying the execution of his judgment given by the same court but made a volte-face when it comes to giving equal speedy attention to the assignment of date in hearing of our appeal at the apex court.

“In conclusion, Onyendu expressed firm confidence in the ability of his erudite legal team, ably led by the man of letters, our indefatigable Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), and our ability to beat the Federal Government of Nigeria to their own game, again.

“Onyendu appreciated millions of his followers for not letting him down, particularly on his directive that the purported sit-at-home order, ordered by the known enemies of our land, was never obeyed. Onyendu directed that the criminals who are still on a rampage, ostensibly being funded by the enemies of his peaceful movement in their desperate bid to ensure that our land is completely destroyed, should be fished out from their hideouts. Onyendu further requested that Umuchineke should monitor the modus operandi of these soulless beings, and discretely smoke them out from their various hideouts.

“Onyendu roundly condemned the spate of wanton and mindless killings and destructions carried out by these criminal elements. He deeply commiserates with those who lost their lives and/or their properties during these attacks.

“May Ezigbo Umuhineke, be reminded once again of the pains Onyendu is daily being subjected to, for the emancipation of his people. Do not forget in haste that this great servant of his people daily ingests over ten tablets of drugs, which drugs rarely come through as and when needed.

ICT Manager arrested in Kebbi for ‘stealing 83 laptops’ from JAMB ICT centre

The Kebbi police command says its operatives have arrested one Abubakar Ismail for allegedly stealing 83 laptops.

Ismail, identified as the site manager of the Kebna Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) ICT centre in Kebbi state, was said to have stolen the laptops from the centre.

Ahmed Kontagora, commissioner of police in Kebbi, announced the development in a statement on Tuesday.

Kontagora said the suspect sold the laptops off at the cost of N40,000 each, adding that 76 of the laptops have been recovered.

“On the 20th November, 2022 at about 0900hrs, the manager, Kebna ICT JAMB Centre, Zuru, one Dr. Michael Ezra Dikki, reported at the divisional police headquarters, Zuru, that on the same date at about 0830hrs, he visited the centre where he discovered that one Abubakar Ismail, the site manager, had stolen eighty-three (83) pieces of HP laptops, belonging to the centre, took them to one Chukwudi P. Otutu of Otutu computer centre, Sokoto town, Sokoto state, and sold each one at the cost of forty thousand naira (N40,000),” the statement reads.

“On receipt of the complaint, a team of Policemen swung into action and succeeded in arresting the suspect and recovered seventy-six (76) pieces of the said stolen laptops.

“Investigation is in progress and the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.”

In another development, Kontagora said the police arrested one Zara’u Sahabi for allegedly killing Gadafi Nasiru, identified as a three-year-old boy.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 2 in Kaoje district, Bagudu LGA.

The three-year-old was said to have been hit on the head with a wooden object.

“On receipt of the report, a team of policemen rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect,” Kotangora added.

“In the course of investigation, she confessed to the crime. The suspect will be charged to court after completion of investigation.”

Russian military chief says they can only defeat Ukraine if they use nuclear weapons

A Russian commander has suggested that using nuclear weapons may be the only way Russia can be victorious in its war against Ukraine.

The remarks come more than nine months after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the Ukraine invasion in February, hoping for a quick win against its much smaller neighbour.

However, Ukraine’s defense efforts, boosted by Western humanitarian and military aid, have blunted Moscow’s military gains. Putin’s troops continue to struggle to achieve substantial goals even though Russia illegally annexed four Ukranian regions they don’t have total control over .

Throughout the war, concerns have emerged about whether Putin would order the use of nuclear weapons if he feels he has no other way to win the war or if the war grows into a greater conflict with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Alexander Khodakovsky, the commander of Russia’s Donetsk militia, pointed to nuclear weapons as one way Russia could win the war during an appearance on state TV.

He said Russian military authorities realize their resources “have their limits,” suggesting they may have to turn to nuclear weapons to defeat Ukraine.

“Everyone realizes that the next spiral of escalation can only be the nuclear stage of war,” Khodakovsky said.

Russia could deploy nuclear weapons if NATO crosses “certain boundaries” and becomes “directly involved” in the military conflict, Khodakovsky said.

So far, the West has limited its involvement in the war to supplying Ukraine humanitarian and military support, as sending troops would likely lead to an escalation of the war.

He admitted that Russia lacks the ability to combat against the entirety of NATO using conventional weapons.

“We don’t have the ability—we’re a country which is now fighting the entire Western world, and we don’t have the resources to defeat the NATO bloc with conventional means,” he said. “But we have nuclear weapons for that. We built them specially for such situations. That is why there is only one option.”

Despite Khodakovsky’s remarks, NATO has not indicated any plans to begin direct involvement in the Ukraine war.

In September, Putin issued a threat against countries he believes are trying to “blackmail” him with their nuclear weapons, an apparent jab at Western countries, as he ordered a partial mobilization of troops to escalate the war.

“Those who are trying to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the winds can also turn in their direction,” Putin said.

However, in October, Putin downplayed the possibility of using nukes, saying that there is “no point in that, neither political nor military,” according to the Associated Press.

US lawmakers wants to ban TikTok in the country

Some US lawmakers have introduced new legislation that aims to ban TikTok from operating in the United States.

The new bill by Sen. Marco Rubio, the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and a bipartisan pair of congressmen in the House, reflects the latest move by US policymakers against the Chinese-owned short-form video app.

There have been reports that TikTok lacks ability to safeguard US user data from the Chinese government.

The proposed legislation on Tuesday December 13, would “block and prohibit all transactions” in the United States by social media companies with at least one million monthly users that are based in, or under the “substantial influence” of, countries that are considered foreign adversaries, including China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela.

The bill specifically names TikTok and its parent, ByteDance, as social media companies for the purposes of the legislation.

The legislation comes as a wave of states led by Republican governors have introduced state-level restrictions on the use of TikTok on government-owned devices. In the past two weeks, at least seven states have introduced such measures, including Maryland, South Dakota and Utah.

For years TikTok has been having discussions with the US government on a potential deal that may allow the company to address the national security concerns and to continue serving US users.

TikTok has previously said it doesn’t share information with the Chinese government and that a US-based security team decides who can access US user data from China. TikTok has also previously acknowledged that employees based in China can currently access user data.

“The federal government has yet to take a single meaningful action to protect American users from the threat of TikTok,” Rubio said in a statement.

“There is no more time to waste on meaningless negotiations with a CCP-puppet company. It is time to ban Beijing-controlled TikTok for good.”

Hilary McQuaide, a spokesperson for TikTok, reacted in a statement that read;

“It’s troubling that rather than encouraging the Administration to conclude its national security review of TikTok, some members of Congress have decided to push for a politically-motivated ban that will do nothing to advance the national security of the United States.”

“We will continue to brief members of Congress on the plans that have been developed under the oversight of our country’s top national security agencies—plans that we are well underway in implementing—to further secure our platform in the United States,” McQuaide added.

Tuesday’s bill is not the only federal legislation to target TikTok. Last year, US lawmakers proposed a law that would ban TikTok usage by federal agencies, and Rubio introduced a bill that would force some app makers to disclose ownership information.

Already, the US military, the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security have restricted TikTok from devices under their control.

Shekau, Ex-Boko Haram Commander Left Over 83 Concubines

Some surrendered fighters have disclosed that late Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, left behind 83 concubines.

Daily Trust had reported how Shekau died during the battle of supremacy with another insurgent faction in Sambisa forest, Borno State in May 2021.

Speaking in Maiduguri on Saturday, Special Adviser to Borno State governor on Security, Brig Gen. Abdullahi Ishaq (rtd), said some of the late Shekau’s associates told him about Shekau’s concubines after they surrendered and embraced peace.

“We started this non-kinetic approach 16th months ago, the model started shortly after the death of Abubakar Shekau and the state government didn’t want Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) to continue using the Shekau’s fighters; we know it would be deadly.

“So, the first of fighter that I received in Bama told me that Shekau had 83 concubines, just imagine he left behind 83 concubines.

“They said he is now in hell because he committed suicide during his clash with other fraction. He always told them go out and fights, if they die in the process several virgins are waiting for them,” he said.

He further added that many fighters regretted their actions, saying Shekau misled them.

He added that many of the fighters did not know how to perform ablution.

“Let me say this, many of his commanders were bitter after he committed suicide because that act contradict what he preached. I can tell you that many of these fighters don’t know how to perform simple ablution not to talk of how to do prayers. We had to start teaching them after we brought them to Maiduguri.” Ishaq said.

Cash withdrawal limit: Bankers, Insurers, others give conditional support

…Say there are pros, cons of new policy

Bankers, Insurers among others in the nation’s financial institutions, have given conditional support to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, new N100,000 cash withdrawal limit, saying there were prons and cons of the new monetary policy.

Under the umbrella of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI, they spoke weekend in Lagos, during the hand over ceremony to the new leaders of the Association.

According to them, while the policy would among others reduce incidences of robbery attack on bank customers after cash withdrawals, it would, however, create problems for the unbanked and those without access to payment platforms.

Speaking, new President of ASSBIFI, Olusoji Oluwole, said: “Nigeria has not reached such level of financial inclusion. The policy should give room for financial inclusion, for areas where you cannot have the payment platform like online payment system. If infrastructure is not right, the policy will be a problem.

“To achieve a cashless environment, it is not just banks, it will involve banking, power sector and telecommunications sector. All must be up and running, if not, nothing will be right.

“With festive season, a tougher situation is coming into an already hard situation.

“The policy has its pros and cons. Some of the pros are that it enhances the cashless society but it should be a cashless society where there is inclusiveness. There is limit to the cash that you can carry and reduces the risk of attacks by robbers.

“We have people who are in the environment where they do not have inclusiveness. We have people who do not have bank accounts because they cannot provide the minimum requirements to be banked. These are the unbanked. If these challenges or issues are not addressed, they will create a problem for us. The lack of inclusiveness is the negative part of it.

“Our problem with this kind of policy is they always put the cart before the horse. You come out with a policy that you will start thinking of how to make it work, rather than working on how it work gradually before you bring out the policy for full implementation.”

PVC distribution begins today – INEC Spokesperson

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will begin the distribution of the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) today, December 12, as confirmed by its Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education, Mr. Festus Okoye.

He further disclosed that Nigerians can collect their PVCs between 9 a.m and 3 p.m daily, including Saturdays and Sundays.

In a bid to ease difficulties in collecting PVCs, the commission has approved the collection of the PVC in 8,809 Registration Areas/Wards across the country.

He said;

“After January 15, 2023, the exercise will revert to the local government offices of the commission until January 22, 2023.

“Those who are unable to collect their PVCs at the local government offices of the commission can do so at the Registration Areas/Electoral Wards.

“INEC had held a retreat in Lagos with its Administrative Secretaries and RECs from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT between November 28 and December 2, 2022.

“At the retreat, the commission finalised the procedure as well as the timetable for collection of PVCs.”

Putin planning to use nuclear weapons in a conflict

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for the second time this week, floated the possibility that Russia may formally change its military doctrine of not being the first to use nuclear weapons in a conflict, days after he warned of the “increasing” threat of nuclear war.

“They (the US) have it in their strategy, in the documents it is spelled out – a preventive blow. We don’t. We, on the other hand, have formulated a retaliatory strike in our strategy,” Putin said at a news conference in the Kyrgyzstan capital Bishkek on Friday, December 9.

Even if Russia were to retaliate immediately on seeing the launch of nuclear missiles towards it, Putin said, “this means that the fall of the warheads of enemy missiles on the territory of the Russian Federation is inevitable – they will still fall.”

Putin said that United States’ policy was not to exclude the possibility of “disarming” nuclear strike, while Russia’s doctrine is to use nuclear weapons as the last resort.

“So if we’re talking about this disarming strike, then maybe think about adopting the best practices of our American partners and their ideas for ensuring their security. We’re just thinking about it. No one was shy when they talked about it out loud in previous times and years,” he said.

“If a potential adversary believes it is possible to use the theory of a preventive strike, and we do not, then this still makes us think about those threats that are posed to us,” he added.

Biden administration officials have previously said that Moscow has been warned at the highest levels of the consequences for use of nuclear weapon in the war.

On Wednesday, Putin warned of the “increasing” threat of nuclear war, while stopping short of pledging Russia would not be the first to resort to nuclear weapons in a conflict.

“As for the idea that Russia wouldn’t use such weapons first under any circumstances, then it means we wouldn’t be able to be the second to use them either — because the possibility to do so in case of an attack on our territory would be very limited,” he said Wednesday.

Putin’s comments come as the war enters winter, with Russia continuing to shell eastern and southern parts of Ukraine – and faces attacks on its own soil.

Portugal striker, Gonçalo Ramos, who replaced Cristiano Ronaldo for their Round of 16 World Cup clash against Switzerland, has gone viral after a video of him recording himself masturbating in his hotel room leaked online.

The footage of the footballer pleasuring himself is currently one of the most widely discussed topics on the internet. It first leaked on Reddit before it went viral on Twitter.

Gonçalo Ramos made a name for himself at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when Ronaldo was benched for him in their Round of 16 clash with Switzerland. The Benfica striker went to score a hattrick in the game, but couldn’t replicate the performance for their Quarter-final clash against Morocco which they lost 1 – 0.

Swedish Supreme Court reverses the schoolgirl headscarf ban

A Supreme Court in Sweden has reversed the schoolgirl headscarf ban passed by the municipality of Staffanstorp in 2019, arguing that it denies freedom of expression laws.

The court upheld a previous decision by the Administrative Court, emphasizing that the ban contradicts both Swedish and international law.

“Being allowed to practice or show one’s religion is something that is protected by both the Instrument of Government and the European Convention,” President of the Court of Appeal, Dag Stegeland, said in a press release.

Both Skurup and Staffanstorp municipalities had previously decided on a ban on wearing headscarves in school. In Skurup, the decision applies to both students and staff, and in Staffanstorp only to students.

In a previous decision, the Administrative Court said the headscarf ban the two municipalities wanted to implement contravenes both the European Convention on Human Rights and protections on religious freedom under Swedish constitutional laws.

The Supreme Court instead used Sweden’s freedom of expression law to back up its ruling, stating that expressions of religious affiliation, such as clothing, are covered by this.

‘Limiting the right to wear a headscarf has effects on individuals and is, therefore, a limitation of freedom of expression,’ Justice Ulrik von Essen said in the press release, as reported by The Local Sweden.

‘For the limitation to be permitted, it must be supported by law. Such legal support is missing in national law and therefore the municipalities’ decision must be annulled,’ he said.

‘The headscarf is a symbol that women are not available. It’s a sexualisation of women and it’s unreasonable to do that to young girls,’ Christian Sonesson, the town’s Moderate Party mayor, told the local Sydsvenskan newspaper at the time.

‘I have nothing against adult women wearing headscarves, but these are small children, little girls.’

Lady heads to jail for bombarding her ex. with 1000 ‘I’m sorry’ texts

A woman is facing jail after she bombarded her ex-boyfriend with more than 1,000 text messages in a week begging for them to get back together, an act that nearly caused the ex-boyfriend to “commit suicide.”

Michelle Felton, 28, phoned and texted Ryan Harley up to 150 times per day following their breakup.

Harley accused Felton of controlling him throughout their 21-month relationship, Chester Magistrates’ Court heard today, Thursday, December 8.

She admitted to harassment after her not-guilty plea to coercive behaviour was accepted by prosecutors. She faces up to six months behind bars.

Among the texts, Felton, an optician’s assistant wrote: ‘Why won’t you speak to me? I love you. Are we meeting tonight? Are we going out?’

Harley called the police on Felton when she began leaving gifts on the doorstep of the home he shares with his mother in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, UK.

He reportedly told police officers: ‘I just want it to go away and for it all to stop. I just feel like ending it all’.

The couple began dating in May 2020 but parted ways in February after Felton kicked Harley in the groin and Harley accidentally broke her finger in retaliation.

Felton’s lawyer Peter Barnett said the relationship reached boiling point when an argument erupted between the pair at Felton’s mother’s house.

Barnett said: ‘They woke up in the morning whereupon they had an argument. He was watching videos on his phone and she says she wants to spend time with him.

‘She tries to give him a hug but he says he has had enough. During the argument, he accepts that he struck her with a sock which we say was wound up so that it was like a rope.

‘She accepts that she has kicked him in the groin area because he was causing pain.

‘He then grabs her right hand and starts to bend and twist her little finger until it snaps. He maintains that she grabbed him around the neck but she says she was just sitting up.’

Harley spent the next five days by Felton’s side as her swollen finger healed. She was unable to work because of the injury for one month, Barnett added.

Then the constant messages began, according to prosecuting lawyer, Lynne Sayers.

‘There was then a constant bombardment, with as many as 100 to 150 missed calls in a day over one 11-day period to Ryan,’ she said.

‘There were literally hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of messages between 15 and 26 February this year.’

Sayers said at one point, Harley told Felton: ‘This has become toxic. Just leave me. I need a few weeks.’

‘But a lot of the messages are sent about him allegedly cheating on his driving test,’ Sayers said.

‘She went on and gave him a hard time about that. Then she said, “No, I am very proud of you. When are we going to meet?”

‘There were a lot of very love-type messages, with love hearts, but they were perpetual. There’s a change of tone at some point but the majority are love-type messages, and “Why won’t you speak to me?”‘

‘He just wanted it to all go away,’ Sayers added, ‘and for it all to stop.’

Sayers said while it was clear Felton was clearly just ‘pouring out her feelings’, the continuous messages left Harley in ‘serious distress’.

‘It’s not denied that the defendant has had a difficult time but the effect on the victim has been quite considerable,’ she added.

Magistrates adjourned the case. She is prohibited from contacting Harley or his mother Jane. Felton will appear at Warrington Magistrates Court on January 6 for sentencing.

History: On this day, the Japanese attacked the US, killing over 2400 people

On this day, 81 years ago, Japan launched a devastating Sunday morning surprise attack on the U.S. Navy and other military assets at Pearl Harbor, thrusting America into World War II

On Dec. 7, 1941z the raid by Japanese warplanes sunk or damaged 21 U.S. warships — including the USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma, destroyed or damaged 347 aircrafts, and killed 2,403 Americans. The Empire of Japan, and allies Nazi Germany, had by the end of 1941 conquered much of Asia, Europe and North Africa often with frightening ease.

“For nearly two hours, Japanese firepower rained down upon American ships and servicemen,” reports the National World War II Museum.

“Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan,” President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced with determined indignation the following day, while asking Congress for a declaration of war.

“No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.”

After the attack, America went through a remarkable military, industrial, logistical mobilization in human history leading to the liberation of hundreds of millions of people around the world.

“For nearly two hours, Japanese firepower rained down upon American ships and servicemen.”

The attack on Pearl Harbor was the beginning of a much wider and ambitious Japanese offensive across the Pacific Ocean that began on Dec. 7.

The attack proved the greatest miscalculation in military history.

German chancellor Adolf Hitler, then rashly declared war on the United States on Dec. 11. His declaration gave the U.S. justification to enter the European war, too.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war against Japan for its “unprovoked and dastardly attack.”

“Yesterday the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya. Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong: Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam. Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands. Last night the Japanese attacked Wake Island. And this morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.” he said

“Within days,” the National World War II Museum notes, “the Japanese were masters of the Pacific.”

Within four years, both Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany lay in ruins, their ability to wage war destroyed, their conquered lands reclaimed and the hundreds of millions of people freed from domination.

The United States then led the effort to rebuild both nations into major world economies with stable democratic leaderships.

Read How Aminu Was Tracked, Arrested Over Post Against First Lady, Aisha Buhari

More details have emerged on how a student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Adamu, was trailed and arrested over a post against First Lady, Aisha Buhari.

Naija News learnt that the police track team trailed the 24-year-old to his school where he was arrested.

Recall that Aminu in a post on his Twitter account had accused the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari of feeding on Nigeria’s money.

A police detective attached to the ‘Anti Vice Section A’ in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, Festus Josiah, in his statement filed as part of the prosecution’s proof of evidence against Aminu before the court, claimed that Aisha Buhari’s Aide De Camp (ADC), Usman Shugaba contacted him concerning the defendant’s tweet.

According to Josiah, he works with the office of the first lady as a phone tracker.

Josiah disclosed that his team travelled to Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on a Monday and trailed Aminu for three days before they tracked him down.

The police operative in his statement dated 19 November wrote “When we got his phone, an iPhone 7, we saw the Twitter account on the phone. We also saw the (alleged offending) post.”

He said the undergraduate was brought to the FCT State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

According to court filings, Aminu’s confiscated phone has been sent to the Terrorism Investigation Branch, Force Intelligence Bureau in Abuja “for analysis” and “evidential value.”

My Source Of Wealth – Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has again provided an insight into his source of wealth.

Tinubu in an interview on BBC in London said he was the most investigated and most accused former governor yet nothing has been found on him.

Daily Trust reports that many Nigerians had challenged Tinubu to explain his source of stupendous wealth and this has been a recurring issue in the current electioneering for the 2023 election.

During the interview, he accused his critics of envy, explaining that he had a lot of investments which yielded profit.

Responding to the question on the corruption allegation, he said, “You got to know how to analyse and how to ask questions, not in the accusatory format.

“Are they enemies of wealth, if they are not enemies of wealth, investments do yield. I have an example of Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in America and in the world. He started from stock buying. I inherited great real estate, I turned the values around.

“I am not denying my wealth, I was the most investigated, the most accused governor for eight years, up to 2007 and since I left the office, I am still there, I have not taken any government appointment.”

Asked on the allegation that he was taking a certain share of the revenue being generated in Lagos State where he governed between 1999 and 2007, he retorted, “Hey excuse me, share what? Have they proven it? IMF has investigated the record in Lagos. What is wrong with them? It is envy.”

The Reason Why We Arrested D’Banj – ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the arrest of Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo, otherwise known as D’Banj.

Daily Trust had reported how the singer was grilled by the commission and detained over night.

In a statement, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, Spokesperson of ICPC, said D’Banj was being investigated for fraud associated with the N-Power Programme.

The N-Power is a scheme established by President Muhammadu Buhari on 8th June, 2016, to address the issues of youth unemployment and empowerment, and help increase social development.

“In line with its mandate, the Commission had received numerous petitions on the diversion of N-Power funds running into billions of naira following the approval and release of such funds to the beneficiaries by the Federal Government. Many N-Power beneficiaries had complained over the non-receipt of the monthly funds in spite of payment by the Government.”

“About 10 persons have been invited by the ICPC over the last few months in connection with the N-Power fraud, and have been granted administrative bail after their detention. Several invitations to Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo, to appear before a team of investigators were ignored and not honoured.

“Mr. Oyebanjo turned in himself and was taken into custody at the ICPC Headquarters on Tuesday, 6th December, 2022, and is currently assisting the investigators to unravel the circumstances of the fraud allegations by the petitioners.

“The investigation will be all-encompassing and also be extended to other collaborators of the fraud and the banks where the beneficiaries’ accounts are domiciled.”

Trump Organization found guilty on all counts of criminal tax fraud

A Manhattan, New York jury has found two Trump Organization companies guilty on multiple charges of criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records connected to a 15-year scheme to defraud tax authorities by failing to report and pay taxes on compensation for top executives.

The Trump Corporation and Trump Payroll Corp. were found guilty on all charges they faced.

Donald Trump and his family were not charged in this case, but the former president was mentioned repeatedly during the trial by prosecutors about his connection to the benefits received by certain executives, including company-funded apartments, car leases and personal expenses.

The Trump Organization could face a maximum of $1.61 million in fines when sentenced in mid-January. The company is not at risk of being dismantled as there is no mechanism under New York law that would dissolve the company. However, a felony conviction could impact its ability to do business or obtain loans or contracts.

Trump Org. attorneys said they plan to appeal.

“This was a case about greed and cheating,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. “The Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation got away with a scheme that awarded high-level executives with lavish perks and compensation while intentionally concealing the benefits from the taxing authorities to avoid paying taxes. Today’s verdict holds these Trump companies accountable for their long-running criminal scheme.”

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass told the jury in closing arguments that Trump “explicitly sanctioned” tax fraud and urged them to reject the defense’s argument that former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg was a rogue employee motivated by his own personal greed.

“This whole narrative that Donald Trump is blissfully ignorant is just not true,” Steinglass said.

The jury heard that Trump agreed quickly to pay the private school tuition for his Weisselberg’s grandchildren and signed a lease for a Manhattan apartment to shorten the executive’s commute. Trump personally signed his employees’ bonus checks at Christmas time and he initialed a memo reducing the salary of another top executives, which prosecutors said suggested he knew all along about the fraudulent scheme.

The verdict comes as Trump is under scrutiny by federal and state prosecutors for his handling of classified documents, the effort to overturn the 2020 election results, and the accuracy of the Trump Organization’s business records and financial statements. He is also facing a $250 million civil lawsuit from the New York attorney general alleging he and his adult children were involved in a decade long fraud. The attorney general is seeking to permanently bar them from serving as an officer or director of a company in New York state, among other penalties.

2nd Niger Bridge opens December 15 — Nigerian Govt.

Federal Controller of Works in Delta, Mr Jimoh Olawale has said that the new Second Niger Bridge will be opened on December 15.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, December 7, Olawale said that the bridge would be open for only 30 days.

He added that the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, ordered the opening of the bridge, which is at 95 percent completion stage, to ease traffic during the Yuletide.

Olawale said;

“As we know, during the Christmas celebration, commuters suffer hardship accessing the old Niger Bridge due to traffic jam but with this arrangement, traffic congestion on Asaba-Benin Expressway will ease.

“We have notified the state government on this arrangement and we are working with the Federal Roads Safety Corps to ensure a hitch free vehicular movement.

“Motorist going towards Owerri direction would divert through the access road near the old Niger Bridge to the new bridge.”

Olawale who also debunked claim of FG abandoning payment of compensation to property owners along the access road to the second Niger Bridge, added that the government had not taken possession of any property along the 17 kilometre Okpanam-Ibusa-Asaba-Oko bypass to the new bridge.

He stated that they only served notice that their structures were within the government right of way.

The Federal Controller also said that the modalities for payment of compensations were being worked out.

He said;

“The federal government has appointed a consultant, Messrs C.O. Akpabor and Company to enumerate the properties for compensation.

“Each claimant has an attorney that liaises with the consultant, so there is totally no need for protest, more so that the federal government has not taken possession of the properties nor commenced construction work on the access road.

“As at moment, nobody’s structure or property has been demolished.

“Federal government verification team have visited and submitted its report to Abuja and government will pay all compensation before work will commence on the access road.”

Wierd performer pierces his abdomen, liver and loses part of his lung during practice

A legendary sword swallower has been hospitalised with horrific injuries to his abdomen and liver.

First responders were called to the Six Flags of America theme park in Woodmore, Maryland, on October 31, although Nelson reportedly didn’t suffer the injury during the show.

“It wasn’t an accident during the show, but rather other unrelated health issues,” said Josh Bowren, executive producer for Aaron Radatz Productionz, who directed the show Nelson appeared in.

Nelson performer

Nelson, 59, said five swords scissored out in his abdominal cavity – seemingly during practice – and he was rushed to a nearby hospital in Washington DC.

Doctors initially thought Scott Nelson, also known as Murrugun The Mystic, wouldn’t recover from his injuries, which saw part of his lung removed.

However, he is on the mend.

A GoFundMe page set up to financially support Nelson reads: “A San Diego staple, Scott Nelson, known popularly as Murrugun The Mystic (a sword swallower, actor, busker, all around entertainer), is in need of our help.

“He’s been in the hospital in DC for over a month unable to eat solid food.

“They had to remove most of one of his lungs and initially the doctors did not think he was going to make it.

“He hasn’t been able to eat for a month, he’ll be in the DC hospital for at least another week, and he obviously hasn’t been able to work and will not be able to work for some time.”

Nelson reportedly told the founder of the fundraising page: “Five swords scissored out in my abdominal cavity.

“It also appears that I pierced the lobe of my liver.

“Good news is, I’ve quit smoking and lost over 50 lbs.”

Photos posted to social media showed his injuries, which included several visible wounds and stitches on his body.

‘US based Kenyan’ kills self, wife and their two daughters in the US

Around 9:30a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, Louisville Metro Police officers were called to respond to the 4500 block of East Pages Lane on a report of a shooting with multiple victims.

In a statement, LMPD said officers arrived and found a man, woman and two girls dead.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified Mary Njoki Muchemi Stanton, 49,  Adrianna Stanton, 17, Brianna Stanton, 11, Gary Stanton, 60, as the victims in the shooting.

Initial reports from Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) indicated that Gary Stanton shot his and daughters dead inside their house in the Valley Station neighborhood before turning the gun on himself.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Mary and Andrianna were shot multiple times and Brianna was shot once. Mary had celebrated her birthday last week.

Mr Stanton died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the coroner added.

“We feel pretty confident that the incident is going to be a murder-suicide situation where the adult male was the primary aggressor who shot the three females,” LMPD Maj. Micah Scheu said on Saturday.

He added: “Any time lives are lost, anytime there’s juveniles involved obviously it’s very difficult. Many of our officers are fathers and mothers as well. It’s difficult to see anything like this.”

According to Whas11, an affiliate of ABC, the Stantons was ‘a normal traditional family within the neighborhood.’

Life Church Louisville Lead pastor Patrick Bissig told Whas11 that his church had interacted with the family multiple times before, but they were never close.

“We saw them on holidays: Christmas, New Year’s, Easter. From the outside looking in, it looked like your traditional happy family,” he added.

Emily Muchemi said her sister Mary was full of life and optimistic earlier this week.

“Nothing seemed off,” Muchemi said in a statement. “We talked and joked every day.”

Mary had worked to become a registered nurse and had recently started at an adult daycare center in Louisville.

“Family was important to her and she worked hard to lift everyone up in the family,” Muchemi said.

Adrianna, a student active in numerous organizations, was a senior at duPont Manual High School. She was looking forward to graduating this spring.

“She was a smart and responsible young lady with a bright future ahead of her,” Muchemi said.

Brianna attended Noe Middle School.

“Brianna was full of life,” Muchemi said. “She got along well with everyone.”

Muchemi and Mary recently visited Kenya together to bury their father.

“Our hearts are not even healed from dad’s sudden death and now this,” Emily said.

Police haven’t said what motivated the father to kill his family before ending his life.

Boko Haram Commander, Bello Turji Reveals Beneficiaries Of Terrorism In Nigeria

Notorious terrorist and bandit leader, Bello Turji, has revealed those benefiting from terrorism in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that Turji was among 18 terrorists declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters in the middle of November 2022. A price tag of N5 million Naira was placed on each of the criminal’s heads.

However, Turji has questioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s government on why it has not killed him yet despite claims of knowing his hideouts.

Turji reportedly spoke on the phone with an online Hausa television monitored by Saturday Vanguard, alleging that some government officials are benefiting from banditry and terrorism in the country.

The notorious bandit leader said this while lamenting the recent air raid on his abode and the killing of innocent people when he had agreed with government officials and community leaders to abandon banditry.

Naija News understands that Turji has led his groups to terrorize the Northern part of Nigeria, particularly Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger States.

In his submission, the terrorist leader said the Nigerian government was not interested in ending banditry. Recall that Turji, early this year, led his gang to carry out a massacre in Zamfara where almost 200 people, including women and children, were killed.

Turji Embraces Peace

Reports had emerged earlier in August this year that Turji embraced peace. According to the Deputy Governor of Zamfara state, Senator Muhammad Hassan Nasiha, the notorious terrorist, agreed to be peaceful with citizens of the state.

However, on September 18, he narrowly escaped being killed when the Nigerian Air force bombed his house in Fakai village in the Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara state, which led to the killing of 12 of his fighters and relatives.

Subsequently, the Defence Headquarters mentioned his name in the list of wanted terrorists.

The Government Has Broken Our Peace Accord
Turji, while reacting to the military declaration, said the government has just broken the peace accord they had with him to stop banditry and protect the people of the Shinkafi axis from any attack.

He said: “I wonder if truly the government wanted to kill me. I think they only wanted to provoke me by making me renege on my promise not to kill anyone. If they could spot my house why couldn’t they sight and kill me because I only left the house a couple of minutes when the bombardment occurred.

“The people should know their enemy from the onset. The government is provoking us so that we will take revenge on the poor masses.

“The government is only fooling the gullible and naive people that they want to end banditry whereas in actual sense, they are the ones fueling the activities of the bandits and also benefiting from them.

“Peace is priceless, and I’m ready to be a peace advocate unless the government wants me to be a warmonger. I’m ready for either peace or war. Whatever the government wants, we can give them a multitude.”

According to him, there have not been any attacks in the last five months since his group reached a truce with the government, but the military has just attacked his home.

“We feel betrayed, especially after the death of vulnerable people in the air strikes. The government only succeeded in destroying some parts of my house and other buildings belonging to innocent people.

“For the past five months, we didn’t attack or kill anyone around Shinkafi. As a result, farming and other businesses were flourishing without any hitches. I feel embarrassed when my name was mentioned after the attacks by other terrorists”.

Gombe and Bauchi States Fight Over New Oil Wells

Barely a month after President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the first crude oil exploration in the Northern part of Nigeria, reports emerging claims Bauchi and Gombe State have begun to claim ownership of the oil fields.

Naija News reports that the four Kolmani oil fields, which lie in the Gongola Basin of the Upper Benue Trough, were initially awarded to Shell and Chevron in 1993 as Oil Prospecting Licenses 809 and 810 and Oil Mining Licenses 112 and 118.

Earlier on February 2, 2019, there were cheers in the Northern region after the President led top government functionaries to flag off the exploration of the resources discovered in commercial quantity.

The government had boasted that the development signals a new Nigeria with balanced resource distribution, diverse economic activities and sustained energy and security.

However, barely two weeks after history was made in the region, reports disclose that Bauchi and Gombe are already claiming the ownership of the Kolmani Oil and Gas field.

The PUNCH highlighted in a report that government officials and residents of the two states have accused each other of attempting to appropriate the site, which is said to contain one billion barrels of crude oil reserves and 500 billion standard cubic feet of gas.

Meanwhile, President Buhari had, during the inauguration of the oil exploration, noted that the governors of both states gave assurances of their unwavering commitment and willingness to ensure support and cooperation in the localities.

Unfortunately, the said assurances seemed to have hit the rock as the two states declared that they were the rightful owners of the oil-rich field.

NBC, NNPC Are Hypocrites

According to the Special Adviser to Gombe State Governor on Information Management and Strategy, Alhaji Ahmed Gara-Gombe, the National Boundary Commission (NBC) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) should be blamed for the controversies.

The state official said the two bodies were hypocrites as they failed to tell the truth. While insisting on Gombe’s ownership of the contentious Kolmani field, Gara-Gombe said: “The truth of the matter is that the Kolmani oil well is in Gombe State; Akko Local Government, Pindiga emirate, Tai district, Kaltanga Mamuda ward. It has nothing to do with Bauchi State or Alkaleri Local Government.

“If putting the records straight is what is seen as a crisis, so be it. The National Boundary Commission, the NNPC, are hypocrites in this matter, they know the truth and should come out clean.”

The government official stressed while conversing with reporters on the matter the solution to the argument is to give Gombe what belongs to it.

“Kolmani One is in Bauchi State in Alkeleri, let them go and explore that one. Four oil wells are in Gombe,” he said.

He noted, ‘’Again, we need an independent jury to determine and verify our claims. Our people whose land was dubiously taken in the name of access road and were paid between N64,000 to N117,000 as compensation by the NNPC must be paid appropriately.

“NNPC must go to Gombe side and also construct a road as they did on the Bauchi side. Besides, Pindiga (Gombe) to Kolmani is shorter and friendly terrain than the Bauchi (side) which is longer and unfriendly terrain.’’

On his part, a lawyer, Abdullahi Inuwa, blamed a former Group Managing Director of the NNPC, who passed on recently, for awarding the land to Bauchi State.

Naija News understands that the late NNPC GMD was an indigene of Misau, Bauchi State.

Speaking on his part in the controversy, Inuwa said their grouse was not with the Federal Government but the NNPC, noting that the president was misguided on the true owners of the land.

He stated, “The true position is we did not accuse the Federal Government directly but our accusation points at the NNPC, not the Federal Government per say. We are accusing the NNPC, since the late GMD’s time, of manipulation; for trying to create a smokescreen by portraying the fact that Kolmani is in Bauchi while Kolmani is in Gombe.

“There is a village head of Kolmani who is answerable to the district head and to the Pindiga emirate under the Akko Local Government. Our position is that Kolmani is in Gombe, not in Bauchi.

‘’The Federal Government or the President has been misled by the NNPC, especially the highest ranking officers of the NNPC that are of Bauchi State origin.”

He declined to speak further on how the late NNPC GMD allegedly caused the brewing feud but claimed that the NNPC had shown a preference for Bauchi State.

He said, “If you go to Misau, you will see so many developments made by the NNPC in Misau, where the late GMD came from. On the issue of boreholes constructed by the NNPC in the area, there are more boreholes on the side of Bauchi and less on the side of Gombe.

“Also, in that area in Bauchi where oil is alleged to have been discovered from the borders, all the fenced block is on the side of Gombe; there is no area on the side of Bauchi surrounded by walls where oil is to be drilled.

‘’And not only that, if you are to go to Barambu during the late NNPC GMD’s administration, I was informed about a store constructed by the NNPC in Barambu, which is part of Bauchi and I was told there is a laboratory there.

“If they had treated us fairly, whether Kolmani is in Bauchi or Gombe, we would remain mute; we would not say anything. As time goes on, the way and manner they are treating us as if we don’t know what we are doing are what provoked us to come out and voice out our grievances and also tell the world that this is our position, that we are not ready to relinquish Kolmani which is in the process of annexation from the side of Bauchi through the NNPC.”

Inuwa assured that the contention would not degenerate into violence, noting that they were ready for dialogue.

He said, “We have heard about the challenges in the Niger Delta, but sadly, in this case, it is the government, through the NNPC’s selfish interest, that is trying to create problems and disharmony.

‘’Some of us have parents who hailed from the other side, the Bauchi side; we go to their market, and they come to our market. We inter-marry; we are one. NNPC’s senior officers should remember the oath of allegiance; they are first from Nigeria before considering themselves as indigenes of Bauchi.’’

He stressed that from the outset, if someone like the late NNPC GMD had engaged both communities from both sides of the boundary, the issue wouldn’t have escalated.

Inuwa, however, believes that the state leaders will resolve the matter amicably.’

Kolmani Oil Belongs Bauchi – Gov’t

Meanwhile, the Bauchi government has maintained that the oil rigs belong to the state. In his defence, the Commissioner for Information in the state, Yakubu Ningi, told reporters that the state government would consult widely before making its position on the matter known to the public.

According to him, although the governor has been invited to speak on the matter, he did not go because he realised that the matter is taking a different dimension.

“He wants to have wider consultations after which the Bauchi State government’s position on the matter will be made public. His Excellency said you’ll need to give us some time to articulate our position before going to press later on,” Ningi said.

On his part, while reacting to Gombe’s claims over the oil field, Muhammad Bako, the member representing Pali Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly where the area is situated, stressed that the area belonged to Bauchi, Naija News reports.

He added, “This issue is not an issue for the youths because when you bring in the youths, the issue has become a child’s play. They are being sponsored by people and they don’t know exactly where the boundary is.

“The chairman of the National Boundary Commission hails from Gombe State, but when the issue of verifying the boundary came up, he went and saw it (the boundary); they thought the boundary was in Gombe.

“But when they saw it, they left and never returned because they saw the truth that the oil was in Bauchi and not in Gombe. And you know, when people want to cause problems or crises, they use the youths, but I am calling on them not to cause trouble that will consume them. They are being sponsored by people who don’t know anything about this oil.”

NBC’s Reactions To Alleged Controversies On Kolmani Oil Fields
According to the publication, the Deputy Director NBC, Emmanuel Bulus, defended the commission saying it was not aware of the contention over the Kolmani oil field.

He reportedly said that only the director-general of the commission, Adamu Adaji, could speak on the matter, adding that he was out of Abuja at the moment.

On his part, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Garba-Deen Muhammad, said attention should rather be focused on oil production from the wells at the moment.

“Let us worry more about oil supply for now. This one (ownership tussle) can wait,” Bulus was quoted.

Senegal team to qualify for World Cup’s round of 16 after defeating Ecuador

Senegal has become the first African to qualify for the 2022 World Cup’s round of 16 following a 2-1 victory over Ecuador.

Netherlands’ dominant victory over Qatar meant only a win would see Senegal through to the knockouts from Group A, while Ecuador would have progressed with a draw.

Senegal got the first goal in the match after Ismaila Sarr converted a penalty kick in the first half.

When Moisés Caicedo cancelled out Ismaïla Sarr’s penalty in the 67th minute at the Khalifa Stadium, Ecuador were heading into the knockout stages for the second time in their history.

Senegal captain’s Kalidou Koulibaly however led his team into the last 16 of the World Cup three minutes later, by volleying home the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Ecuador.

The result erased lingering memories from four years ago, when Senegal could only draw its last group game in Russia and missed the knockout stage because it had collected more yellow cards than Japan, which advanced instead.

Woto Woto! As Kanye West ordered to pay $200K per month in child support

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are now officially divorced.

The SKIMS founder, 42, and the rapper, 45, have finalized their divorce, with the exes coming to an agreement about child custody and property.

According to divorce documents obtained by  TMZ, the former couple will have joint physical and legal custody of their four children: North, 9, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West finalize divorce, rapper ordered to pay $200K per month in child support for their four children

Kanye West will be required to pay Kardashian $200,000 a month in child support. He will also be responsible for half of the children’s medical, educational, and security expenses.

He also relinquished the $4.5m home he bought across from Kim’s house last year after Kim filed for divorce, saying he bought the house in other to be close to his children. Kim will be responsible for all expenses related to the 5-bedroom home.

The settlement also states that he gets to keep his $60m Malibu home, two ranches in Wyoming, 300 acres in Calabasas, a home in Belgium and his childhood home which he bought in Chicago.

Both Kardashian and West waived spousal support.

The pair also agreed to settle disputes regarding the children by participating in mediation. However, if either party fails to take part, the other is allowed to make the decision in a dispute by default.

The couple’s assets, including their property, will be divided based upon their prenup.

The divorce finalization comes nine months after Kardashian was ruled legally single during a bifurcation hearing.

West had previously challenged Kardashian’s request to be declared legally single, but said in a statement at the time that, “I’ve asked my team to expedite the dissolution of my marriage to Kim so I can put my entire attention to our beautiful children.”

Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February 2021, citing irreconcilable differences after nearly seven years of marriage. The couple was married in a lavish wedding in Italy in 2014.

As Russia bombards Ukraine from all sides, NATO vows to send more help for Ukraine

NATO allies of Ukraine have promised more arms and equipment to help restore power supplies to the country as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said his forces were defending against attempted Russian advances in multiple regions.

Ukraine’s General Staff said on Wednesday November 30, its forces had repelled six Russian attacks in the past 24 hours in the eastern Donbas region, even as Russian artillery relentlessly shelled the right bank of the Dnipro River and Kherson city in the south.

On Tuesday, November 29, Ukrainians ran into bomb shelters after air-raid warning sirens, as Russian forces pounded Ukrainian targets in the Donbas with artillery, mortar and tank fire.

Zelenskiy said the Russian military was also attacking in Luhansk in the east and Kharkiv an area Ukraine recaptured in September.

“The situation at the front is difficult,” Zelenskiy said in his Tuesday night video address.

“Despite extremely large losses, the occupiers are still trying to advance” in Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv. And “they are planning something in the south,” he said.

Foreign ministers from the NATO alliance, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, began a two-day meeting in Bucharest on Tuesday, seeking ways both to keep Ukrainians safe and warm and to sustain Kyiv’s military through this winter.

As Russia bombards Ukraine from all sides

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Russian President Vladimir Putin was “trying to use winter as a weapon of war” as Moscow’s forces lose ground on the battlefield.

Russia has launched huge attacks on Ukraine’s electricity transmission and heating infrastructure since October, in what Kyiv and its allies say is a deliberate campaign to harm civilians, a war crime.

Moscow says hurting civilians is not its aim but that their suffering will end only if Kyiv accepts its demands, which it has not spelled out. Although Kyiv says it shoots down most of the incoming missiles, the damage has been accumulating and the impact growing more severe with each strike.

There are no political talks to end the war. Moscow has annexed Ukrainian territory which it says it will never relinquish; Ukraine says it will fight until it recovers all occupied land.

“We need air defence, IRIS, Hawks, Patriots, and we need transformers (for our energy needs),” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told reporters on the sidelines of the NATO meeting, highlighting various Western air defence systems.

“In a nutshell: Patriots and transformers are what Ukraine needs the most.”

However, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev warned NATO against providing Ukraine with Patriot missile defence systems and denounced the Atlantic alliance as a “criminal entity” for delivering arms to what he called “Ukrainian fanatics.”

Why Kylian Mbappe Didn’t Play For Cameroon – Father

Wilfred Mbappe, Kylian Mbappe’s father, has made sweeping claims about why his son chose France over Cameroon.

The events that led to the Frenchman playing for Les Blues rather than Cameroon have been blamed on the Cameroonian football association, according to his father.

Despite being born in Paris to a Cameroonian father named Wilfried and an Algerian mother, Mbappe attempted to play senior national team football for the West African country where his father was from.

Wilfried claimed in 2018 that a Cameroon FA official demanded payment before his child could join the Indomitable Lions.

Through Cameroon Concord News, he stated:

At first, I wanted my son to play for Cameroon but, someone at the Cameroon Football Federation charged a sum of money that I didn’t have to make him play. The French didn’t charge anything.

Mbappe was in outstanding form during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, scoring four goals, including one in the championship game’s 4-2 victory over Croatia.

He became the second youngster to score in a World Cup final, following Brazilian legend Pele.

Being a member of the national team is a privilege, and Kylian’s father believes that players should not be paid to represent their country.

How the ‘Gospel Legend’ Sammie Okposo died

It was a black Friday for the Nigerian entertainment industry as it lost yet another prominent singer, Sammie Okposo to the cold hands of death.

Okposo, 51, died yesterday in Lagos after he reportedly slumped while he was being treated for exhaustion.

His colleague, Righteousman confirmed the sad news to Saturday Vanguard.

He described Okposo’s sudden demise as ‘tragic’, adding that the singer had also collapsed last week upon his return from his praise party concert in the UK and was being treated for exhaustion before he eventually slumped.

According to him, the ‘Welu Welu’ singer was a workaholic who hardly found time to rest.

“We should learn to take time to rest, Sammie Okposo was always working. I will personally miss him. He was a great singer who influenced a lot of young Nigerian gospel singers. I know how much I love his music. He served God and not man,” Righteousman said.

Also, reacting to the sad news, veteran actor, Richard Mofe Damijo, popularly known as RMD, shared a video he made with the late singer about a month ago in the United States on his Instagram page.

In a post, RMD said “This was exactly a month ago in the US. We spent two weeks together and fellowshipped as men. We ate, drank and teased each other. We made plans for the new year… yet here I’m struggling and looking for words to capture our relationship.”

“Sam Okpooo as I used to call you, this was not the plan. This one pained me in my heart. My prayers are with your family as you rest in power, peace and praise.”

Comedian Bovi described the palmist as he was fondly called by his fans as “ The most angelic voice I ever heard.”

Okposo’s last Instagram post was 22 hours ago before his demise. It was a video of his praise party tagged, SOPP live in Lagos, which was held on Friday, November 4, 2022.

The late singer was slated to minister, alongside other gospel singers, Eben, Chuks Praise, Joy Favour, and Victor Edit at the Outpouring Assembly International in Calabar between Friday, November 25 and Sunday, 27.

In 2020, the Delta State-born music star had a close shave with death after the propeller shaft of his car pulled off while on motion on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Okposo, who was one of Nigeria’s renowned gospel singers, set the internet agog early this year when he took to his Instagram page to apologize to his wife, Ozioma after cheating on her with another woman in the United States in an incident that happened in 2021.

The scandal, however, took a toll on his ministry as the singer made the decision to take time off from ministry in order to retrace his steps. But he later tendered an apology, while deleting the message on Instagram and moved on with his life.

As the CEO of Zamar Entertainment, Okposo began his music career as a soundtrack producer for Nollywood in 1992. He later started the Sammie Okposo Praise Party, a platform he used to train upcoming gospel artistes. He released his first album, Addicted, in 2004. Some of his evergreen songs include, “‘Welu Welu,’ a traditional track he rendered in pidgin, ‘Naija Praise’, ‘Jump and Shout’, ‘Jehovah Idi Ebube’

Okposo also collaborated with many other artists in the gospel and soul music fields, including popular gospel singer Marvellous Odiete on “Follow You”, a song that he performed regularly in Africa, Europe, and North America, and curated a series of concerts called SOPP (Sammie Okposo Praise Party). His most recent album, The Statement (2018), was produced by the Grammy-winning Kevin Bond.

Cristiano Ronaldo agrees £173M deal to join Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed to a staggering £172.9million-a-year contract with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The 37-year-old is on the lookout for a new team after Manchester United terminated his contract last week in response to his controversial interview with Piers Morgan earlier this month.

According to Marca, Ronaldo has been offered a two-and-a-half-year contract worth €200m (£173m) per season, and has an initial agreement to join the Saudi Arabian side after the World Cup.

Sources, however, close to the former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar insist no deal has been signed and that Ronaldo remains focused on the World Cup with his country.

However, reports in Spain today claim the ‘dizzying figures’ have been agreed which will see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner play outside Europe for the first time in his career.

Al-Nassr are one of the most successful clubs in Saudi Arabia, having being crowned winners of the country’s top flight nine times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2019.

13-year-old teen impregnated his 9-year-old cousin

Zimbabwean police have confirmed that a 13-year-old boy impregnated his 9-year-old cousin in Tsholotsho.

29-year-old father of the pregnant girl was arrested on 29 October 2022, shortly after it was discovered that his daughter was pregnant. He is reported to have been assisting the police with their investigations.

Many suspected that the father had raped his 9-year-old daughter, who was diagnosed with a rare condition called precocious puberty.

The suspicion was ignited after the mother of the 9-year-old alleged that her husband had warned the child that goblins would visit her and insert things into her privates at night.

The Applied Genetic Testing Centre (AGTC) of the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) volunteered to help the authorities establish who had abused and impregnated the 9-year-old.

A paternity DNA test results established that the victim’s 13-year-old cousin is indeed the father of the child.

The country’s national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi said in a statement;

“UPDATE ON A CASE OF RAPE INVOLVING A 9 YEAR OLD GIRL IN TSHOLOTSHO

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) results obtained from the National University of Science and Technology on 25th November 2022, in connection with the paternity of the 9 year old girl’s child, have established that the victim’s cousin brother (13) is the father of the child.

“The 9 year old complainant and the suspect will now receive the appropriate counselling from the Police’s Victim Friendly Unit (VFU).

“The police is now working with other relevant arms of the government to ensure that the due processes of the law are followed. “

Kano State To Begin Production Of Gold Jewellery soon

The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, says the Kano Gold Souk and other regional projects being executed by the ministry will become operational by 2023.

Mr Olamilekan Adegbite, the minister, said this when he was featured at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum in Abuja.

Adegbite said the souk would make the country to become a world destination for gold.

H said the government had trained people who will make pieces of jewellery, adding that they would be residents in that gold souk.

“In Kano, our gold is being taken out of Nigeria to places like Dubai and others where they turn them into pieces of jewellery.

“You buy them at expensive prices there but when those gold leave Nigeria in their raw form, they pay next to nothing for it.

“So, we said ‘lets have a gold souk in Kano which can rival any souk in the world’.

“They will turn the gold in Nigeria into pieces of jewellery. They can make bangles, straps, earrings necklaces, and pendants.

“People are trained to do this now. So, we are adding value to Nigeria and we are saying that Kano Gold souk can join the world calendar of souks.

“This will enable people to know that at a certain time of the year, we will organise a gold festival in the Kano gold souk so that women and men from all over the world can come to Kano and buy gold.

“That is why we have done all these six regional projects and those projects are at advanced stages of completion.

`We should be commissioning them very soon. We will look at suitable dates to inaugurate these projects early in the New Year,’’ the minister said.

NRC to enforce the use of NIN before boarding Abuja-Kaduna trains

ASSENGERS without proof of their National Identification Numbers (NIN) would no longer be allowed to board the train on the Abuja-Kaduna route, Transportation Minister Mu’azu Sambo said at the weekend.

The minister also told passengers to brace ticket fare hike.

He said train services, which were suspended after the March 28 bandits’ attack on a Kaduna-bound passenger train, would resume in the next one week.

The attack led to the death of some passengers and about 60 were kidnapped. Others were injured.

Forty-seven of the abducted passengers were freed by the bandits after collecting ransoms from their families. The remaining hostages were freed by security agencies coordinated by the office of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt.-Gen. Lucky Irabor.

Prior to the release of the remaining 23 hostages, the Transport minister said the government would not restart service on the Abuja-Kaduna route resume until all the kidnapped passengers were rescued and reunited with members of their families.

Presenting the scorecard of his ministry earlier in the month, Sambo hinted of the resumption of services before the end of this month.

Eight months after the attack, the minister yesterday embarked on an assessment tour of the rail infrastructure in preparation for resumption.

Contrary to the reports that the service would resume today, the minister said the resumption would take a few more days.

He said the few days would enable passengers to prepare adequately and get familiar with the newly introduced security measures.

The minister, who told the passengers to prepare for an increase in ticket fares, also said the number of trips has been reduced, adding that there will no longer be night trips.

In preparation for the resumption of the train operation, Sambo said: “I travelled from Idu to Rigasa to assess the state of readiness of train service between Abuja and Kaduna.

“Several measures have been put in place to ensure that lives and properties will be secured when we resume services and I am satisfied with what I have seen.

“Of course, there are one or two areas that need to be addressed and we are going to address them immediately.

“There are increased numbers of security personnel and without mincing words, some of the security personnel may not be in uniform to guarantee to safety of the traveling public.

“There are other sensitive measures that we have deployed which I will not reveal. Also, on every journey, the train is monitored every second on a screen and the train driver can see up to a certain distance if there is any threat on the track that will enable him to match the brakes long before getting to the perceived threat.

“On the issue of whether the train service will start tomorrow or not, we have not said the train services will start tomorrow. I want to be very categorical about that.

“Now, we have introduced a new system whereby before you purchase a ticket, you will be required to provide a phone number and National Identification Number (NIN) for us to profile the passenger because that is the beginning of the security checks.

“So, at any point in time when a train moves from one station to another, we will know who and who is on board. If you don’t have NIN, you are not going to board our train. It is as simple as that.

“If you are a minor, an adult will pay for you and will register for you and an adult can only register for not more than four minors.

“The NIN will take care of racketeering and it is one of the reasons we introduced it. Only one human is entitled to a NIN and I don’t see how one person will get multiple NINs.

“In any case, at the point of the departure lounge, the profile of the person will have to show and if it is not shown, you don’t get access. It is as simple as that. So, if you get 20 tickets, 19 will be useless and your money will be wasted.”

“Now, we want to give sufficient time for the Nigerian public to listen to these and assimilate this new system because if we start tomorrow, a lot of people will be disgruntled. They will ask; why didn’t they tell us? Is this the new way of doing it? Why didn’t they give us adequate time to do it? So, we want to give adequate time. Definitely between three, four, five days, certainly not more than a week.”

On the security measures put in place to ensure real-time monitoring of the rail infrastructure, the minister said: ‘That has been put in place, but we are not going to tell you what we have done. It is a security matter and I have no apologies for that.”

On the planned cut on the number of trips and increase in fares, the minister said: “The number of trips will be reduced. Naturally, you should expect that a certain number of passengers will not be comfortable boarding the train for obvious reasons.

“We are human beings; we are bound to feel a little bit uncomfortable until we can see that every security measure has been put in place. So, we will reduce the number of trips and as the traveling population picks up, we will increase the number of trips but we will certainly not travel at night for now.

“Please, expect an increase in fares. I am having final consultation with the management of NRC and the management of the ministry to see whether it will be immediate or we will take a little time.

“We all know that prices of things have gone up, even airfares have gone up and we have not heard anybody cry about it. Why is it that it’s only when it is train fares that people are reactive? I can assure you that the poor masses will be taken care of and considered because we are a very sensitive government.

On assurance that there won’t be a repeat of the attack, he said: “The only person that can give you that assurance is the Almighty God. But, having said that, I will tell you that whatever is humanly possible to secure the lives of the users of this service have been put in place and we will continue to upgrade it. We will be monitoring it daily and improve on whatever or wherever we find some snags.”

North Korea wants to become the world’s strongest nuclear force – Kim Jong Un says

North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un has stated his country’s intention is to have the world’s most powerful nuclear force.

The Sunday, November 27 announcement comes as he promoted dozens of military officers involved in the recent launch of a new ballistic missile, North Korean state media reports.

Kim inspected a Nov. 18 test of the Hwasong-17, North Korea’s largest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and pledged to counter what he called U.S. nuclear threats.

North Korea’s “ultimate goal is to possess the world’s most powerful strategic force, the absolute force unprecedented in the century,” Kim said in the order promoting the officers, adding that building up the country’s nuclear capabilities would reliably protect the dignity and sovereignty of the state and the people.

Kim was pictured in photos posing with scientists, engineers and military officials involved in the test.

He described the Hwasong-17 as the “world’s strongest strategic weapon” and said it demonstrated North Korea’s resolve and ability to eventually build the world’s strongest army.

“North Korean scientists have made a wonderful leap forward in the development of the technology of mounting nuclear warheads on ballistic missiles, and were expected to expand and strengthen the country’s nuclear deterrent capabilities at an extraordinarily rapid pace, Kim was also quoted as saying by the KCNA.

According to state media, those workers pledged to defend the “absolute authority” of the party and Kim, and vowed that “our missiles will fly vigorously only in the direction indicated” by Kim.

Capable of reaching the U.S. mainland, the launch of the Hwasong-17 prompted the United States to call for a United Nations Security Council presidential statement to hold North Korea accountable for its missile tests, which are banned by Security Council resolutions.

“(The missile) clearly proved before the world that the DPRK is a full-fledged nuclear power capable of standing against the nuclear supremacy of the U.S. imperialists and fully demonstrated its might as the most powerful ICBM state,” KCNA said.

Rotten Naira notes found in warehouse

Damaged Naira notes continue to surface following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) redesign of the nation’s currency unveiled by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

In a video making rounds on social media, bags of damaged naira notes were uncovered at a warehouse in an unknown location at the time of this publication.

The Nigerian currency was stashed in multiple bags for a long period in humid condition leading to its deterioration and decay.

The individuals seen in the video examined each bag with the hopes of seeing untampered notes, but all were already bad.

Meanwhile, money outside the banking system added N108.67billion to N2.84 trillion in October 2022 from N2.73 trillion in September, CBN’s money and credit statistics have revealed.

According to the apex bank’s data, currency outside the banks appreciated by 11.07 per cent Year-on-Year (YoY) from N2.54 trillion reported in corresponding period of 2021.

The money and credit statistics revealed that currency outside banks hit the highest record of N2.84 trillion in October. While defending its decision to redesign the Naira, the apex bank in October said some individuals were stockpiling huge amounts of cash outside the banking system.

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, had in a statement explained that “Significant hoarding of banknotes by members of the public, with statistics showing that over 85 per cent of currency in circulation are outside the vaults of commercial banks.

“To be more specific, as at the end of September 2022, available data at the CBN indicate that N2.73 trillion out of the N3.23 trillion currency in circulation, was outside the vaults of Commercial Banks across the country; and supposedly held by the public.

“Evidently, currency in circulation has more than doubled since 2015; rising from N1.46 trillion in December 2015 to N3.23 trillion in September 2022. This is a worrisome trend that cannot be allowed to continue.”

The statistics revealed that currency-in-circulation (CIC) grew YoY by 11.22 per cent to N3.3 trillion in October 2022 from N2.97 trillion in 2021.

Analyst and President, Bank Customers Association of Nigeria (BCAN), Uju Ogubunka attributed the increasing CIC to politicians’ spending towards the 2023 elections.

Morocco beats Belgium in a shocking 2-0 win

The Atlas Lions of Morocco stunned Belgium on Sunday afternoon, November 27 with two second-half goals to pick their first victory in the FIFA world cup in 24 years.

It was Morocco’s first win in Qatar 2022 and their second clean sheet in the competition.

Belgium were the overwhelming favourite for victory over Morocco, based on their past records in World Cup group-stage matches.

However, that wasn’t the case in Sunday’s tie as Belgium players were subdued by two second-half goals from substitute players, Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Abdoukhal.

The Atlas Lions, before Sunday, last tasted victory at the France 1998 World Cup when they trounced Scotland 3-0.

Morocco have won a World Cup game for just the third time in their history, a  3-1 win vs. Portugal in 1986, a 3-0 vs. Scotland in 1998 and now the 2-0 vs. Belgium in 2022.

Belgium’s Michy Batshuayi received a pass from Thorgan Hazzard but the shot on target was blocked by goalkeeper Muni in the fifth minute.

Inter pass exchange between Thorgan and De Bruyne from a freekick gave the Red Devils a corner kick in the 16th minute.

Belgium then failed to get the ball into the net after Amadou Onana’s header from a corner went slightly off target in the 17th minute.

Two minutes later, Meunier sent a direct shot into the hands of Moroccan goalkeeper, Munir.

However, Morocco and Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech put up a long-distance shot that went off-target in the 21st minute.

Then in the 33rd minute, Meunier’s through ball to Batshuayi was stopped by Munir. Two minutes later, Archaf Hakimi blasted wide what could have been a chance for Morroco to score first.

Just before halftime, Hakim Ziyech’s direct freekick goal was removed by VAR after Romain Saiss’ was found to be in an offside position.

Five minutes into the second half, Ziyech’s freekick was also saved by Courtois .

In the 57th minute Sofiane Boufal added to Morocco’s attempt with his shot that went past the goalpost.

Belgium then got their first shot on target in the second half after substitute as Mertens hit a close-range shot that was pulled out by Munir in the 65th minute.

At the 73rd minute, Morocco substitute Abdelhamid Sabiri broke the deadlock spinning a direct freekick past Courtois.

Sabiri’s goal is Morocco’s first-ever World Cup goal from a freekick.

Morocco tried defending the solitary goal as Coach Walid Regragui switched to a 5-3-2 formation and then in another surprise, scored a stoppage-time second goal from another substitute, Aboukhal Zakaria, who blasted through Courtois from Ziyech’s cutback pass.

Morocco will face Canada in their final group game while Belgium have a date with Croatia.

US Govt. considering to send long-range rockets to Ukraine

The United States is considering sending long range rockets as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to drive up demand for American-made weapons and ammunition.

According to a report by Reuters on Monday morning, November 28, the Pentagon is considering a proposal to supply Ukraine with cheap, small precision bombs fitted onto abundantly available rockets, allowing Kyiv to strike far behind Russian lines as the West struggles to meet the demand for more weapons.

The report says US and allied military inventories are shrinking, and Ukraine faces an increasing need for more sophisticated arms as the war drags on.

Sources told the publication;

“Boeing’s proposed system, dubbed Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), is one of about a half-dozen plans for getting new munitions into production for Ukraine and the US’s Eastern European allies, industry sources said.

GLSDB could be delivered as early as spring 2023, according to a document reviewed by the news agency and three people familiar with the plan. It combines the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) with the M26 rocket motor, both of which are common in US inventories.

Doug Bush, the US Army’s chief weapons buyer, told reporters at the Pentagon last week the military was also looking at accelerating production of 155mm artillery shells – currently manufactured only at government facilities – by allowing defence contractors to build them.

The invasion of Ukraine drove up demand for American-made weapons and ammunition, while US allies in Eastern Europe are “putting a lot of orders” in for a range of arms as they supply Ukraine, Bush added.

Although a handful of GLSDB units have already been made, there are many logistical obstacles to formal procurement.

The Boeing plan requires a price discovery waiver, exempting the contractor from an in-depth review that ensures the Pentagon is getting the best deal possible. Any arrangement would also require at least six suppliers to expedite shipments of their parts and services to produce the weapon quickly, the report added.

Saudi Prince promises players Rolls Royce for Argentina win

The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, has promised each player in the national team a Rolls Royce Phantom for their win against Argentina in their World Cup opener in Qatar.

A resilient Saudi Arabian side on Tuesday shockingly defeated the Copa America winners 2-1 with all odds against them.

It is not the first time that a Rolls Royce would be awarded to a Saudi Arabian player. In the 1994 tournament Saeed Al-Owairan receiving one of the luxury cars after scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory against Belgium.

In 2022 however, despite having arguably the best player in the world on their team, seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi, a struggling Argentina could not get any point out of the match although they were the dominant team for most of the game.

Messi’s penalty in the first 10 minutes of the game saw the middle eastern team go into half time with a bleak finish in sight, however, Saudi Arabia turned the game around immediately after the second half resumed with Saleh Alshehri’s goal, 48′, leveling up with Argentina and Saleh Aldawsari’s 53rd minute winning goal.

The PUNCH had reported that a national holiday had already been announced the day after the win by Saudi King, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. All employees in public and private sectors as well as students in all phases of education were given the day off to celebrate the stunning victory.

Saudi Arabia are currently top of Group C, being the only team in the group to have won so far in the tournament with Mexico and Poland playing out goalless draws, leaving two-time winners Argentina bottom of the group.

Elon Musk to launch gold, grey, blue verification badges on Twitter

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Elon Musk announced on Friday that there would be a launch of different coloured verification badges to distinguish between accounts.

Musk also said that all verified individual accounts would have the same blue check, but some would be able to show secondary colours, AFP reports.

“Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week,” Musk tweeted.

“Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.”

He said further that others would display “secondary tiny logo showing they belong to an organisation if verified as such by that organisation.”

The American billionaire proposed that users would be able to pay to be “verified” and get a blue badge on their profiles, but this has caused confusion since he acquired the social media giant last month.

According to the report, he also proposed a subscription fee of $8 a month to allow users to obtain the blue check – which was previously free but reserved for organisations and public figures in an attempt to avoid impersonation and misinformation.

The first rollout of Musk’s subscription plan in early November quickly went south, with many accounts paying for the blue check and then impersonating world leaders, celebrities or companies.

Responding to the backlash, Musk initially postponed the launch date to November 29, before delaying it once more. It now appears the feature will launch on December 2.

Musk has said he wants to charge users for subscriptions to the social media platform to diversify its income stream. Twitter currently depends on advertising for 90 per cent of its revenue.

Several major brands have withdrawn from advertising on the platform since Musk bought it, fearing that his promised relaxation of content moderation could open their companies up to being associated with objectionable content.

According to the NGO Media Matters, half of Twitter’s top 100 advertisers have announced that they are suspending or “have apparently suspended” their spending on the social network.
