‘Foreign hackers attacking our database daily’ – INEC Boss cries

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has raised the alarm of attempts by foreign hackers to break into the commission’s database.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this in Abuja at the annual National Conference of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, with the theme, ‘2023 General Elections; Judiciary and Sustainability of Nigeria’s Democracy.

Yakubu, who was represented by the deputy director of ICT, Dr Lawrence Bayode, explained that the attacks are from different parts of the world, not just Nigeria.

We were looking at the system on Wednesday, 25th of January, and we were seeing that people were trying to come into the system from France, but we are also putting some things in place.

He said, You can not build a house without putting a door, burglary or window. We have done our best to ensure that our system is secured.

Speaking further, he assured that the Result Viewing Portal, IReV, and the backend are well secured to prevent any attack, Daily Trust reported.

European Union to deploy 100 election observers to Nigeria

The European Union Election Observation Mission has said that 100 observers would be deployed for the 2023 polls.

The Chief Observer, EU EOM, Barry Andrews stated this during the launch of the EU EOM to Nigeria 2023, in Abuja on Monday.

Andrews said the EU EOM was deployed by the EU following an invitation from the Independent National Electoral Commission and it started its work on 11 January, 2023 with the arrival of a core team of 11 experts with competencies in various aspects of elections.

He also stated that this is the seventh EU EOM to Nigeria since 1999, noting that for the first time in Nigeria, the mission has a dedicated Election Technology Analyst who would be assessing the use of technologies especially the verification of voters and the transmission of results.

The Chief Observer explained “The structure of our team is that we have the Chief Observer, Deputy Chief Observer and we have 11 in our core team and they have been here since January 11th. We have an election analyst, political analyst, media experts, social media and mainstream analysts. Just yesterday, 29 January, we deployed 40 long-term observers in 20 teams of two covering the 36 states across the country and we will rely on their observations and inputs from the data they were able to assemble and meeting from stakeholders in order to help us complete the work we are working on at the moment.

“We will be examining the implementation of the Electoral Act and all the changes that have taken place and the challenges that are peculiar to Nigeria. Each election environment has its own characteristics and we are cognisant of all those characteristics that affect the country. There are concerns relating to the new technology, full implementation of the Electoral Act and the work of INEC.

“We will also deploy short-term observers in the immediate running of election which would be locally recruited. We are very grateful for the cooperation, not just the EU delegations that are here but also, Canada, Norway, and Switzerland have contributed their short-time observers for this. In due course, we would have 100 observers that they will cover the election day itself. The 100 observers will observe the voting, counting, and tabulation procedures on 25 February and 11 March.”

Andrew added that after the data and observations gotten from the long-term observers, a preliminary statement would be issued two days after the general election.

He said “The EU EOM will issue a preliminary statement two days after each election day and will remain in Nigeria until the completion of the entire electoral process including complaints and appeals processes, and any possible second round of presidential election.”

The Chief Observer, however encourage “the authorities, candidates, and political parties to commit to peaceful conduct prior to, during and after election day.”

“Why Nigerians are maltreated abroad” – Govt.

The Federal Government has warned youths in the country against illegal migration to Europe, saying the attendant consequence was the bad treatment meted on Nigerians abroad.

The government also attributed the mistreatment of Nigerians in foreign countries to the attitude of many youths migrating abroad without basic skills.

Director of economic trade and investment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria, Ambassador Akinremi Bolaji stated this on Monday at the launch of EuroAfrica Polish Language Center, Abuja.

Noting that the government does not encourage irregular migration, Bolaji advised that Nigerians who desire to move does so within the confines of the law.

He said: “Government does not encourage irregular migration. But we do understand that it is part of the fundamental human right to move. That is why government plays emphasis on ensuring that whoever desires to move, does that within the remit of the law.

“Countries want what you have, but they just want you to come legally or documented. And that is why you need registered services like EuroAfrica, which are known by the government and regulatory organisations to assist you.

“Such can organise the right pathway for you to travel. But you see when you say Japa (escape) if you go to another man’s country without entering the place properly, you will be ill-treated and the law will find it very difficult to support you. This is why we are raising it loud and clear that nobody is trying to impeach anyone’s freedom of travel but, you must have something, like basic knowledge.

He disclosed that most of the reports on the ill-treatment of Nigerians are not properly documented because the victims most times travelled illegally

“Now, all the records of ill-treatment that we receive is because most of our people did not properly migrate. If you are documented at the Ministry of Labour and Employment when you are travelling and you are documented by National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) and we know the employer who is the agent that is taking you away, then if your host mistreats you, we will be able to trace such host but when you travel illegally then it becomes a challenge”, Bolaji stated.

On the importance of the EuroAfrica Polish Language Center, Bolaji stressed the need for language exchange to grow economic activities between countries.

According to him, “people-to-people connection is the height of connection that countries do long for and Europe today needs Africa, but the language has always been a barrier.

“With this Center here, I’m also believing that somewhere in Poland, they will start learning how to speak Yoruba or Hausa because we are one people and we need each other. They come to Lagos to do business. It will be easier for them if they learn how to speak Yoruba, so this is just a stepping stone.

“If you go to Poland, it is a white environment, white culture, and their language is what they speak. So once you come in without being able to say anything, they will know that you’re a stranger. And if your paper is not correct, then you run the risk. And so this is very good that it is trying to bring up the service.

“So rather than encouraging Japa, this initiative is going to encourage proper regular migration, labour migration and encourage record keeping and the government would be able to know the number of citizens that have gone out, where they are, in which industry are they serving, and who is their employer.

Founder of the Centre, Olakunle Alayande, said the purpose of the centre was to transmit the language and culture of Poland to the youth in Nigeria.

He said: “I have been living in Poland for the past two decades, and I’ve been into education for a while. My record shows that I have taken more than 400 students to Poland as individual students and exchange students and they have all graduated.

“Haven’t done that, I discovered that a lot of Nigerians are not integrated into the Polish system in terms of having the knowledge of the language and not being able to find their pace on the territory of Poland, in terms of getting an adequate job that they could get in terms of having the knowledge of Polish.

“The only opportunity they have is to just get employment through multinational companies. But by the time you start learning the language or you can speak the language, even if it’s the basic knowledge of Polish, it gives you wide opportunities to work with either the Polish company or multinational companies.

“So after myself, my wife with my team saw the advantages that it would be to the privilege of Nigerian students we decided to bring this opportunity down to Nigeria.

The Co-founder of the Centre, Aleksandra Alaynade, said the benefits of learning Polish or more than one language could make one’s résumé stand out where there were competitions.

“In addition to the position, relevant experienced companies often look for candidates who can offer more cultural diversity,” she said.

She said learning to speak Polish “is absolutely necessary if one intends to run a business in Poland.’’

“Poland’s economy is one of the strongest in the region, so the language is in high demand,” she said.

According to Canada Today, the Nigerians fraudulently sold more than 250 airline tickets at a value of more than $500,000 in the racket scheme.

The Peel Regional Police. in a press release on January 26, 2023, stated that majority of the customers who purchased the tickets were from the Calgary area and the flights were primarily to Africa.

The suspects are facing charges which include fraud, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime, obtaining by false pretences, and unlawful use of a computer.

Advice: Excessive fasting can damage kidney – NAFDAC warns

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against excessive fasting, stating it can destroy the kidney.

The Director-General of the NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stated this in Abuja during a briefing on Monday, Jan. 23.

She urged Nigerians to fast with common sense or pay with their kidneys.

She also urged Nigerians to desist from patronising hawkers and street-corner sellers of medicines.

Adeyeye said: “Kidney failure, liver damage, others, I don’t know how many have died in Nigeria due to substandard medicines and unwholesome foods.

“However, we are a very religious country, Muslims and Christians, we fast a lot, and it is part of the kidney problem. Because your body has to have homeostasis balance, meaning the water level in your body must be enough to make your organs to function. Some people will fast for 10, 20 days, without drinking a lot of water. The kidney is being punished.

“Now, if you put chemicals in it, it triples in an exponential manner, with damage to the kidneys. This is because the kidney does not have enough water to dilute and filter.

“I fast but I fast with common sense. We have to fast with common sense, if not, we will pay it with our kidneys. Also, do not buy medicines from hawkers and corner stores. But medicines from pharmacies.”

Najaatu Muhammad, Ex. APC Director, Spills Hidden ‘Secret’ About Tinubu’s Health

A former director in the presidential campaign council of Bola Tinubu, Najatu Muhammad has shared some details about the health conditions of the former Lagos governor.
Naija News earlier reports that 67-year-old Kano-based politician dumped the party and resigned from her position as the Director of the Civil Society directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

Muhammad announced her resignation in a letter addressed to the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

According to her, a number of recent developments in the country’s political and democratic space are responsible for her decision to dump the APC and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on the reasons for dumping the ruling party, Najatu opened up on the health conditions of the APC presidential candidate, saying that for the times she visited him in London he demonstrated clear symptoms of dementia.

Asiwaju Sleeps Most Of The Time

She said, “Asiwaju that I sat with for two hours, he slept most of the time, it was Bisi Akande that I was really talking to. Most importantly he is not only physically unfit, he is mentally unfit, whether we want it or not, this is the truth. It’s not that I hate him, I respect him because I have heard of one or two people that he assisted which is good.

“But when you talk of leadership of over two hundred million people you know that if you remove tribal sentiments, you know that he is incapable, those that will rule are those around him. This is the reality. He is mentally deranged – I said it!

“I sat with him for two hours in London, when you talk of green, he will give you an answer of red, he can’t even decipher, he has very serious dementia, I believe he has Alzheimer’s because he cannot even hold a cup of tea.”

She further argued that the APC candidate will not dare contest, had he being from the north. “If you remove tribal sentiment, if you remove the Lagos/Ibadan press, if Tinubu were not a Yoruba man, he will not dare contest election because they will crucify him, but people are all there to defend him because he is Yoruba, it’s egbe omo Oduduwa over everything else.

“I was in the campaign for Yola, and we had to beg them to take the mic from him, everything about Tinubu is based on lies. Imagine he is an Hausa man, will he contest elections with all these gbese on top of him? In this campaign nobody should talk of corruption because they are corruption personified.”

I Have Nothing For The North

Mohammad, who disclosed she had not met Tinubu again since after she accepted the appointment to serve in his PCC, told The Whistler that the APC candidate had no plans for the North despite the myriads of problems confronting the region.

Recalling her London meeting with the APC candidate, Mohammad said, “I asked Tinubu, “What do you have for us in the north? He looked me in the face and said “Nothing.” I said, “Sir, you mean you have nothing for the north? The question of security, out of school children, agriculture, and many things like that, everybody in the northeast is waiting to be killed or kidnapped?”

No more wearing miniskirts, face caps, others to LASU campus

The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has barred students of the institution from wearing miniskirts, face caps, rolled sleeves, and other ”indecent attire” while on campus.

The school’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, gave the directive in a statement released. She ordered lecturers in the institution to begin denying students access to lecture halls due to “inappropriate” clothing.

She said the students had consistently disregarded the university’s dress code rules and regulations. She also advised provosts, deans, department heads, and faculty officers to ensure that students dress appropriately within their respective faculties.

“Students are also prohibited from wearing tattered and dirty jeans with holes or obscene subliminal messages; shirts without buttons; shirts that are improperly buttoned; rolling of sleeves or flying collar; and wearing of face caps or complete face covering with very dark glasses.

Wearing of tight fitting apparels; wearing clothes that reveal sensitive parts of the body; wearing shirts and tops with obscene, obnoxious or seductive inscription; wearing of face caps or complete covering of face (very dark glasses), wearing “baggy, saggy or ass level clothes and any other form of indecent trousers and piercing of body and tattooing.”

While the male students were barred from wearing earrings and necklace, including plaiting, weaving or bonding of hair, the female students were cautioned not to wear, “lousy, unkempt, extremely bogus hair or coloured artificial hair, brightly tinted hair/eye lashes/brown, fixing of long eye lashes, nails and artificial dreadlock.”

The school authorities warned that any student found violating the dress code in the premises would be sanctioned accordingly.

PDP Party begins court process to disqualify Tinubu

The Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has commenced court proceedings to disqualify the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over criminal conviction and sentencing by a court of competent jurisdiction in the United States over trafficking in narcotics.

However, APC PCC immediately countered the PDP, saying the party did not only lack originality but was also a copycat.

But PDP’s move is a counter to the APC which on January 20, approached the courts to disqualify Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP from the presidential poll over what it termed as #Atiku-Gate and Special Purpose Vehicle, SPV, saga.

Yesterday, the PDP insisted that the conviction of Tinubu for a criminal offence by a court of competent jurisdiction in the United States of America rendered him ineligible to contest any election.

The spokesman of the Campaign, Kola Ologbondiyan, said this at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday.

Ologbondiyan said the decision of a court in Chicago, which led to Tinubu forfeiting $460,000 in funds believed to be proceeds of crime, specifically, the sale and distribution of narcotics renders his nomination null and void.

He said: “Nigerians are not unaware of the criminal matter concerning the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in respect of his criminal conviction and sentencing by a court of competent jurisdiction in the United States over a criminal case of trafficking in narcotics for which Tinubu forfeited the sum of $460,000 to the state.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the United States court in sentencing Asiwaju Tinubu ordered ‘that the funds in the amount of $460,000 in account 263226700 held by First Heritage Bank in the name of Bola Tinubu represent proceeds of narcotics trafficking or were involved in financial transactions in violation of 18 U.S.C. S1956 and 1957 and therefore these funds are forfeited to the United States pursuant to 21 U.S.C. S881(a)(6) and 18 U.S.C S981.’

“From the declaration of the court and the sentencing, it is clear that Asiwaju Tinubu was summarily convicted by the court, he took no step to challenge the judgment but acceded to the forfeiture of the $460,000 found to be the proceeds of narcotics trafficking.”

The PDP campaign Spokesman noted that it is an established fact that trafficking in narcotics is an international crime which all nations are obligated by international conventions and statutes to arrest, prosecute and implement any court judgment imposed on offenders anywhere in the world, as well as the consequential effects of such judgments.

He further said: “Having been convicted and having acceded to be guilty as charged by way of forfeiture of the $460,000, Nigeria is a signatory to International Convention is mandatorily obligated to execute the consequential effect of that conviction by virtue of Section 137 (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“For clarity, Section 137 (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) provides that:(1) A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if….(d)

“He is under a sentence of death imposed by any competent court of law or tribunal in Nigeria or a sentence of imprisonment or fine for any offence involving dishonesty or fraud (by whatever name called) or for any other offence, imposed on him by any court or tribunal or substituted by a competent authority for any other sentence imposed on him by such a court or tribunal.”

He explained that the import of the constitutional provision was that having been so convicted and fined and having acceded to the sentencing by way of forfeiture of $460,000 and have not received any state pardon or acquitted by any court of competent jurisdiction, “Tinubu remains a convict and the consequential effect is that he cannot contest the election at any level in Nigeria.”

The PDP Campaign equally said: “The effect is that the listing of the name of Bola Tinubu, who stands convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction on the ballot for the 2023 presidential election is by the virtue of Section 137 (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) fundamentally illegal, invalid and must be expunged immediately.”

Ologbondiyan also revealed that the PDP has approached the courts to seek Tinubu’s disqualification.

He said: “Our Campaign has proceeded to the court demanding the court to:

“Declare Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential Candidate of the APC, having been convicted, as ineligible to contest the Presidential election by virtue of section 137 (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“Compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to immediately delist Asiwaju Tinubu as Presidential candidate of the APC or any other political party for that matter and expunge his name from all materials and documents related to the 2023 Presidential election.”

According to him, the PDP campaign is also filing for an accelerated hearing in order to save the nation from an impending catastrophe.

He said: “This case is in the interest of the nation as our laws do not permit a convict, let alone an individual convicted on account of the international crime of trafficking in narcotic, to stand election at any level.

“Nigeria cannot afford the embarrassment of having a convict hold office at any level against our laws.”

Kidnappers now demand ransom in dollars

Gunmen who kidnapped three persons in Fulani settlements near Iwo town, Osun State, have reportedly told families of the victims to pay ransom in dollars.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that gunmen kidnapped the victims after invading the community at about 10 pm last Friday.

According to PUNCH, one of the victims, Adams Ojonla, has regained his freedom after the abductors ran into some hunters around the Papa area of Iwo on Monday.

“Police operatives and hunters are on the trail of the perpetrators. One person has been rescued, but two are still being held.”

The state police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said, “One person has been rescued. But a search-and-rescue operation is still on to free others.”

Russian president, Vladimir Putin has put up major air defences close to his secret forest palace to ‘protect him and his family’ from long-range Ukrainian attacks.

According to independent Russian news outlet Agentstvo Novosti, the air defence includes a ‘personal rocket launcher set up for Putin and his relatives”

Images from the outlet show a Pantsir-S1 air defence system installed near the presidential hideaway at Valdai in Novgorod region while three soldiers are pictured nearby plus the radar antenna rotates.

‘These air defence systems protect President Vladimir Putin and his family from a possible Ukrainian strike,’ said the report.

‘This conclusion can be drawn after the air defence system appeared near the Valdai presidential residence.

‘There are simply no other sites for protection there, except for the residence.’

The Russian president’s lover, Alina Kabaeva, 39, reportedly likes their forest home, with Putin’s inner circle saying he ‘loves’ it.

The couple are believed to have a young family that are kept secret from the rest of Russia.

Putin’s Valdai palace, includes a ‘personal beauty parlour’ and a ‘fully equipped cosmetologist’s office. It also has a dentist office  according to jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s team.

It is not the only place where Putin has deployed major weapons for his protection, as last week a Pantsir-S1 complex was revealed six miles from his official residence near Moscow.

Putin’s lakeside estate seen on drone footage includes a stable, golf course, mini-golf course, VIP restaurant with a cinema, bowling, billiard room and even a mini-casino.

It is dubbed Putin’s ‘most secret official dacha’, or second home.

The Russian’s decision to install missile defence at key locations follows Ukraine’s use of long range repurposed Soviet era drones to strike at Engels-2 in Saratov region in December, killing three.

North Korea’s new secret Police to shoot anyone watching porn

Kim Jong Un’s new secret squads will execute anyone viewing pornography.

Under the North Korean dictator’s efforts to clamp down on “foreign influences”, enforcers are working to stamp out foreign television, hair cuts and even birthday parties, according to testimony from a defector included in a new report.

The secret squads, known as “gruppa” or “non-socialist groups”, are tasked by Pyongyang to pursue violations of the Communist Party’s official ideology.

“The groups operate as a hidden tool, which is used by the government to achieve their ultimate objectives of ubiquitous surveillance and the ability to thoroughly oversee each and every resident,” the report says.

Foreign media, particularly anything deemed to be “Western”, is strictly prohibited in North Korea. Any dissent is severely punished.

Kim Jong Un views South Korea as an American puppet state and is highly sensitive to any South Korean content crossing the border from China, fearing the influence it may have.

For some time now, any sign that someone may have been consuming media from the South has resulted in brutal consequences.

According to the report by the Database Centre for North Korean Human Rights (NKDB) based in Seoul, Kim is tightening his grip even more with the gruppa.

Citizens are being prosecuted for anything from defection, drug dealing, smuggling and begging, to being absent from work, traffic offences, adultery, dying one’s hair, religious practices and taking part in “decadent culture” – which can include parties.

“It is worse than the Kim Jong Il era,” one testimony quoted in the report said. “The border has become tighter, more barbed wire fences have been installed. Also, there were instructions to directly fire at any person crossing the border.

“[…] I’ve heard about people being shot for distributing impure cultural contents. There was one person who was executed for watching pornography and prostituting at his place after Kim Jong Un took office.”

“First they check how you dress. Then what type of music you listen to, what videos you watch, whether you have dyed your hair […] You cannot have a birthday party as a group,” the defector said, according to the report.

“They keep saying not to have gatherings and drink alcohol because when people are drunk, they will end up singing one or two South Korean songs for sure.”

The report said that the secret squads are becoming increasingly preoccupied with the smuggling and distribution of South Korean media.

Outlawed songs, movies and television shows such as “Squid Game” or “Crash Landing on You” are sometimes smuggled into the country on USB flash drives.

One of the methods used by the secret squads is to cut off power to the homes of people suspected of watching banned media, and therefore preventing them from removing DVDs of videotapes from the payer and hiding their “guilt”.

Punishments range from demotion at work, being fired, or even sent to a re-education or labour camp. In the most extreme cases – such as being found to have been watching pornography – people could be executed by firing squad.

“If you consume sexual media content in North Korea, you are either punished with a lifetime term of ‘reform through labour’ or even executed by firing squad. Watching typical South Korean or American material will lead to a sentence of fewer than ten years of ‘reform through labour,” according to another defector’s testimony.

Earlier this month, it was reported that four students were expelled from university and forced to work in a coal mine because they sounded as if they had been watching too much foreign TV, by using accents or phrases from the South.

Young Kenyan man confesses to killing his mother after joining illuminati

A 20-year-old Kenyan man has confessed to the gruesome murder of his grandmother.

Appearing before Mombasa principal magistrate Vincent Adet, the suspect identified as Abdulaziz Ali Swaleh told the court that shortly after joining Illuminati cult, he was instructed to kill his grandmother.

Swaleh said;

“It’s true l killed her. I’m sorry, l ask for forgiveness but l only did it after joining Illuminati.”

The murder suspect further revealed that he was mentally disturbed after carrying out the act, and now needs drugs to control his anxiety.

He added;

“My mind is not okay, l feel disturbed and this is because there are drugs that l often use, l need them.”

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect murdered his grandmother on January 21, 2023, in her sleep after she declined to give him money to purchase narcotics drugs.

Police Constable Mohammed Mapenzi attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), through prosecution counsel Hillary Isiaho, informed the court that the accused person was a suspect in a murder incident where it is alleged that he murdered his grandmother by slitting her throat using a kitchen knife.

Ruling on the case, the magistrate ordered that the suspect to be detained at the central police station for 14 days to allow police complete investigations.

He further ordered the suspect to undergo a mental assessment test.

Central Bank of Nigeria increases interest rate to 17.5%

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has voted to increase the benchmark interest rate by 100 basis points, from 16.5% to 17.5 percent to tame inflation.

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this Tuesday, Jan. 24, while reading the communiqué of the end of the two-day MPC meeting in Abuja, the first of the year.

The development means this is the fifth time the CBN would increase the interest rate despite calls by stakeholders against the increment.

The CBN said previous increases were beginning to yield results with the slight drop in the inflation rate recorded in December 2022.

However, the CBN stressed that there was a need to keep tightening its fiscal policy.

Meanwhile, the CBN retained other variables including the asymmetric corridor at +100/-700 basis points around the MPR.

The CBN also retained the CRR at 32.5 per cent while the liquidity ratio was kept at 30 per cent.

Earlier, the apex bank had increased the MPR from 11.5 per cent earlier last year to 16.5 per cent across four consecutive rate hikes in 2022.

Late Pele named ‘secret daughter’ in his £13million will after denying of being her father

Football legend, Pele reportedly named his ‘secret’ daughter in his will after denying for years that she was his child.

The Brazilian soccer icon had previously refused to acknowledge he was the father of Sandra Regina, leaving her heartbroken when she died 17 years ago.

Football legend, Pele named

                                                  Sandra Regina.

According to Mail Online. the 82-year-old requested to meet with her two sons, speaking to them in the flesh for the first time on December 28, just one day before he died.

It has now emerged that he gave a share of his multi-million-pound estate to the pair, after finally naming Sandra as one of his seven children in his will.

Her children Octavio Felinto Neto and Gabriel Arantes do Nascimento said their mother’s dream had come true.

The Mirror reports Gabriel as saying: ‘I spoke to my aunts, and they said that our grandfather wanted to see us.

‘We were very excited, it was an opportunity we had been waiting for. Every family has fights and rows, ours is no different, but there are moments when union and love are more important than anything else. We are extremely happy.’

Sandra, who died in 2006 of cancer, was born after Pele had an affair with his cleaner, Anisia Machado.

Ms. Machado fought for years to get him to admit he was the father, but he refused to do so, even after a DNA test proved he was.

Sandra was given the right to use Pele’s surname, Nascimento, in 1996 after a five-year legal battle.

When Pele died last month after a long battle with cancer he passed on an estate thought to be worth around £13million.

The global icon had three children from his first marriage, twins from his second, and two children, including Sandra, from affairs. He married his first wife Rosemeri dos Reis Cholbi in 1966 and they had two daughters – Kelly and Jennifer – and a son, Edson.

His first marriage ended in 1982 and Pele was romantically linked with the TV presenter Xuxa, just 17 when they started dating, for several years. But in April 1994, he married the psychologist and gospel singer Assiria Lemos Seixas, who gave birth to twins Joshua and Celeste in 1996.

He recognised his other illegitimate daughter, Flavia Kurtz, who he had after an affair with journalist Lenita Kutz in 1968. He once said in an interview that he had had a ‘normal youth and had many adventures’ when asked in an interview.

He married his third wife, Marcia Aoki, who was 32 years his junior, in 2016 after six years of dating.

He is survived by his sister Maria and his 100-year-old mother Celeste, who was ‘unaware’ her son had died in the days after.

Ron DeSantis may become the New US President: New poll says

US President, Joe Biden would easily beat former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 election matchup — but would lose if he faced off against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to a recent poll.

In a rematch of the 2020 presidential contest, the 80-year-old Biden would prevail over his 76-year-old predecessor by eight percentage points in the popular vote — 49% to 41% — but would fail against Florida’s Republican governor, Ron De Sanctis by 45% to 42% in a head-to-head contest, the WPA Intelligence survey has said.

Trump announced on November 15 that he would mount a third consecutive run for the White House, while Biden is expected to seek re-election, but has yet to make a formal announcement.

DeSantis, fresh off a landslide re-election victory on Nov. 8, has not said whether he will enter the 2024 race but most political observers expect him to announce a run later this year.

Joe Biden would defeat Trump in 2024 but lose to Ron DeSantis: New poll says

The poll, taken between January 2 and January 8 and commissioned by the conservative Club for Growth, found that while DeSantis lagged behind Biden and Trump in name recognition, his favorability rating (41%) surpassed the former president’s (39%) and came within four percentage points of the current president (45%).

But DeSantis’ unfavorable rating (38%) comes in well below Biden (55%) and Trump (60%).

“More Americans are learning about Ron DeSantis and the good he’s done as the Governor of Florida,” said Club for Growth PAC President David McIntosh. “Of the potential candidates surveyed, DeSantis has high favorability with room to grow.”

The survey was concluded before the announcement that classified documents from Biden’s time as vice president had been found at his Wilmington, Delaware home, as well as a Washington DC think tank office he used after leaving the Obama administration in 2017.

The poll surveyed 1,035 voters and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus three percentage points.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, UK Richest man, declares interest in buying Manchester United

Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has declared interest in buying Manchester United

A spokesman for Ratcliffe, a boyhood United fan, confirmed on Tuesday January 17 that his company Ineos is interested in buying the club, saying: ‘We have formally put ourselves into the process.’

Ratcliffe is expected to face rival interest from the United States, Asia, and the Middle East after the Glazer family revealed their willingness to sell United following 17 years in power at Old Trafford.

The 70-year-old who tried to buy Chelsea before the Stamford Bridge club was taken over by a consortium led by Todd Boehly in May, met United co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer for formal talks last year.

The American owners want in excess of £ 5 billion for the club but may also consider selling off a minority stake to an investor.

Bidders have to declare their interest in buying United with Raine, the investment bank acting as the club’s financial advisers, and formal offers are expected to be made next month.

It’s understood that the process could be concluded before the end of the season.

Female Police officer involved in sex scandal with multiple male officers is sticking by her husband

The husband of the Tennessee police officer fired for having sex with six of her co-workers is standing by his wife.

Officer Maegan Hall of the La Vergne, Tennessee police department, was fired after allegations emerged she engaged in sex with coworkers, sent them nude pictures, took off her top at a hot tub party, and performed oral sex on two fellow officers while on duty.

Despite the scandal, her husband Jedidiah Hall is standing by her, Dailymail reports.

“I don’t know how he’s doing it, he’s more of a man than I am, but he’s trying to salvage his marriage,” Jedidiah Hall’s boss, Coffee County Sheriff Chad Partin, told the outlet.

The sex romp led to the firings of Sgt. Lewis Powell, Officer Juan Lugo, Sgt. Ty McGowan and Detective Seneca Shields, according to the internal investigation last month.

Officers Patrick Magliocco and Larry Holladay, who allegedly also had romps with Maegan Hall, stayed on the force but were suspended.

Maegan Hall had told her coworkers she was in an open marriage, investigators said.

One of her coworkers, however, said that Jedidiah, who is the son of a pastor, was not on board.

Coffee County Sheriff Chad Partin said Jedidiah had been training for a job with the Tennessee Highway Patrol but pulled out after the allegations against his wife became public.

He has since become a deputy in Coffee County.

“I have offered and extended to him any resource that he needs. And all he says is, sheriff, I just want to work for the citizens of Coffee County and I love what I’m doing,” Partin said.

“I don’t condone what went on at the La Vergne Police Department but he sure hasn’t broken any laws. He’s the victim here. There’s not a blemish on his record. He is doing a phenomenal, phenomenal job,” Partin added.

Governor Soludo calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s unconditional release, offers to stand as surety

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has appealed to the Nigerian government to “unconditionally and immediately” release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The governor of Anambra state made the call at a political gathering in Awka, the state capital on Saturday, January 14.

Governor Soludo went further to assert that if the detained IPOB leader cannot be released unconditionally, he should be released to him saying he is ready to stand surety for him.

“I am making a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally. If he cannot be released unconditionally, I want him released to me and I will stand surety for him.

We need Nnamdi Kanu in the roundtable conversation to discuss the insecurity in the South East. We must end insecurity in the South East and we need Nnamdi Kanu to be around.”

Soludo promised to cater for Nnamdi Kanu and also offered to bring  him to the authorities any time he is required

“I will house him here in Awka. We need him released to end insecurity in the South-east,” he said.

Kanu was arrested by the Federal government in June 2021 and has been in detention since then.

‘Ukraine is already de facto NATO member’ – Ukraine Defence minister

Ukraine’s Defence Minister, Oleksii Reznikov has said his country had become a de facto member of the NATO alliance, even as Western countries continue to change their “thinking approach” – against previous thinking that military assistance could be seen as an escalation by Russia.

In an interview with the BBC released Friday, January 13, Reznikov said he was sure Ukraine would receive long-sought weapons, including tanks and fighter jets, as both Ukraine and Russia seemed to be preparing for new offensives in the spring. “This concern about the next level of escalation, for me, is some kind of protocol,” the Ukrainian defence minister said.

“Ukraine as a country, and the armed forces of Ukraine, became [a] member of NATO. De facto, not de jure. Because we have weaponry, and the understanding of how to use it.”

Ukraine, for years, has tried to join NATO, a transatlantic military alliance between the US, Canada and 28 European countries, something President Vladimir Putin has described as a security threat for Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pushed for fast-track accession last year due to the war, but it is unclear whether full membership is something the alliance members will seriously consider even after the war is over, despite pledges of support.

Article 5 of the NATO Treaty says an armed attack against any member should be considered an attack against all.

Reznikov, however, denied that his comments would be seen as controversial, not only by Russia but, perhaps, by NATO itself, as the alliance has taken steps not to be seen as a party to the conflict.

“Why [would it be] controversial? It’s true. It’s a fact,” Reznikov said. “I’m sure that in the near future, we’ll become member of NATO, de jure.”

The defence minister spoke in the capital, Kyiv, as Russian forces claimed to have captured the small town of Soledar, in the eastern Donetsk region, in some of the most intense battles in the nearly 11-month-old war.

The Russian offensive is led by the mercenary Wagner Group, whose founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, a long-time Putin ally, has become a vocal critic of the Russian army’s performance in Ukraine.

The situation in Soledar was “very difficult”, Reznikov said, but “under control”. He said Wagner fighters were being used in “wave after wave after wave” of attacks, leading to a high number of deaths, and that Prigozhin was interested in the possible economic benefits of seizing the town, home to Europe’s largest salt mines. “They’ll earn money from blood,” he said.

The group need to deliver some kind of proof to declare they’re better than the regular armed forces of the Russian Federation, Reznikov. If seized, Bakhmut could pave the way for a Russian push towards Kramatorsk and Slovyansk, two Ukrainian strongholds in Donetsk, a region that has been a key target for President Putin.

Reznikov claimed that “approximately 500 or 600” Russian fighters were being killed every day across the country, while Ukraine was losing a tenth of that. He believed Russia could be trying to gather “forces, ammunition and weapons” for an offensive from areas it already occupies in the south and east.

Ukraine, in the meantime, needed time to regroup and rearm while it waited for the delivery of Western weapons. “Spring is the best period to refresh the movement for all sides,” he said. “We understand they’ll be ready to start and, surely, we have to be ready to start.”

However, rejected claims that Russia could be preparing another invasion from Belarus towards capital Kyiv.

The movement from the north “would take a lot of time and they [Russia] have no resources”, Reznikov said.

The Russian defence ministry has replaced the commander of its forces in Ukraine, putting Gen Valery Gerasimov, to replace Gen Sergei Surovikin, who had been appointed in October.

The change, Reznikov said, was a result of the “conflict between Prigozhin (Wagner boss) and the armed forces of the Russian Federation”.

Gen Surovikin oversaw the recent brutal attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure that, according to Reznikov, “reduced the [Russian missile] stocks without any results”, repeating a Ukrainian claim that “they’re running out of missiles”.

As Poland and the UK revealed plans to deliver battle tanks for the first time, Reznikov said he was sure Ukraine would receive “tanks, fighting aircrafts or jets, and long-range weaponry to hit targets in 300km (186 miles) as well”, because “things were changing” in Western countries.

He dismissed concerns that the announcements could trigger a Russian response.

“I have a war in my country,” he said. “They’re hitting my cities, my hospital, my kindergartens, my schools. They killed a lot of civilians, a lot of civilians. They’re an army of rapists, murderers and looters. What’s the next level of escalation?”

Weird Herdsmen destroy 30 hectares Ondo farm, uproot cassava to feed cows

Herdsmen have reportedly destroyed 30 hectares of cassava farm at lgbaraoke, in lfedore council area of Ondo State.

The cassava farmland, estimated at over N10 million, is owed by the former Information and Orientation commissioner in the state and former National vice chairman (South) of the People’s Democratic Party, Dr. Eddy Olafeso.

Olafeso, who was close to tears, yesterday, when he spoke with newsmen in Akure, lamented the destruction of his farm.

His farm manager, Adeola Ariyo, while narrating his ordeal, said that the 30 hectares of cassava farm were destroyed by the cows brought by the herdsmen.

Cassava uprooted for cows to feed on

Ariyo said that the herdsmen uprooted the whole cassava for their cows to feed on.

He explained that workers on the farms concluded the weeding of the farm, after spending about N600,000 before going for Christmas break, only to return to find the entire farm destroyed.

Ariyo said they discovered traces of the footprints of the cows and the herdsmen at the farm.

“The cassava were uprooted and given to the cows to feed on them.

“We had planned to embark on the harvesting of the cassava and reinvest the money on more capital projects, but that hope had been dashed with the destruction of the cassava farm

“We have officially reported to the headquarters of Amotekun in Ifedore local government.

“The cows have turned the 30 hectares of land into a grazing field. The herdsmen destroyed the entire farm and destroyed our means of survival.”

He said the colossal damage done on the farm by the herdsmen and their cows affected the health of his principal.

“I was dazed when I got to the farm and saw the destruction and I have to call my master to inform him and he was devastated by the news. The incident has been reported to the office of the Amotekun Corps.”

Olafeso writes Akeredolu

Meanwhile, Olafeso has written to the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, to intimate the state government about the development, saying his 30 hectares of cassava farm under the Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment centre in Igbaraoke had been destroyed by herdsmen.

Olafeso, in the letter, addressed to the governor, the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Akeredolu on Agriculture, Mr Akin Olotu and the Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, lamenting that over N10m worth of cassava have been lost to the invasion of his farm by the herders.

The letter read, in parts: “We arrived at our farm in Igbaraoke this morning, 11th January 2023 to witness the destruction of our cassava farm by herdsmen.

“I went to inspect our farm on the 23rd of December, 2022 after we completed the weeding of the entire plantation. We were expectant of good harvest but between Christmas and New Year, our farm has been plundered.”

The actress made this known in a recent edition of her cooking show on YouTube when she was joined by Joke Silva as a special guest for a conversation.

Joke’s remark was followed by Mercy’s account of how she was given lifelong medication after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

She said; “… Odi [her husband] and I have actually been here and I have never discussed it where we had, like uhm, a scare. I had a cancer scare in quote and I had like my thyroid removed. And it was like a journey for us because we had kids.

“My last was six months at that time and then we kept on saying okay, we have to understand that this is the new us, let’s go get the surgery done.

“And then we got there, they said I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life and it was a reality that we had to sit down.

“You know, them giving me a timing and telling me you can’t miss your medication. Once you wake up that day, that’s the first thing. Telling me all of the side effects.

“So I’m reconciling with this you’re saying, it’s the truth. At the point you realize this is where we are, let’s grow from here, let’s live in this comfort zone.”

Trump and his kids fined $1.6 million for 15-year scheme to dodge taxes

Trump signs executive orders banning TikTok and WeChat from operating in US in 45 days

The Trump Organization was hit with $1.6 million in fines Friday when a New York judge sentenced it for running a 15-year tax fraud scheme by giving executives perks such as cars, rent-free apartments, and private school tuition fees.

Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp. — both subsidiaries of the Trump Organization — were convicted last month on 17 counts, including conspiracy, criminal tax fraud, and falsifying business records.

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass had urged acting Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan to fine each company the maximum allowed under the law.

“The sheer magnitude of the fraud calls for the maximum possible fine for falsifying business records and helping senior managers evade taxes as they defrauded the tax authorities. The crimes were deep, wide and long, lasting for decades,” Steinglass said. “The conduct can only be described as egregious.”

The judge agreed, fining Trump Corp. $810,000 and Trump Payroll $800,000.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg hailed the sentence in a statement.

“While corporations can’t serve jail time, this consequential conviction and sentencing serves as a reminder to corporations and executives that you cannot defraud tax authorities and get away with it,” Bragg said.

The lone person charged in the scheme was the company’s former chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg.

Weisselberg, 75, pleaded guilty in August and became the prosecution’s star witness during the weekslong trial, where he described how top employees and the company evaded paying taxes they owed.

Weisselberg was also the biggest personal beneficiary of the scheme, prosecutors said. He collected $1.76 million in “indirect employee compensation,” including a rent-free apartment, expensive cars, private school tuition for his grandchildren and new furniture. Other executives received similar perks and were paid bonuses as independent contractors, saving the company money in payroll taxes, Weisselberg testified.

Weisselberg was sentenced this week to five months in jail at Rikers Island. He could have faced up to 15 years in prison had he been convicted at trial.

Weisselberg and the company were first charged in June 2021 after a yearslong investigation into the company’s business practices by the Manhattan district attorney’s office and the state attorney general’s office.

At trial, the company’s lawyers painted Weisselberg as the lone bad actor and maintained that other executives, as well as Trump, were oblivious to what he was up to.

“This case was all about Allen Weisselberg committing tax fraud on his personal tax returns. Every witness repeatedly testified that President Trump and the Trump family knew nothing about Allen Weisselberg’s actions,” Trump attorney Susan Necheles maintained after the verdict.

In a statement after the sentencing, a spokesperson for the Trump Organization said Weisselberg is “a victim. He was threatened, intimidated, and terrorized” into cooperating with prosecutors.

“President Trump and the Trump Organization are also both victims,” the statement continued, because “these politically motivated prosecutors will stop at nothing to get President Trump.”

“We did nothing wrong and we will appeal this verdict,” it concluded.

The $1.6 million in penalties the district attorney sought is the maximum allowed under applicable statutes in the case. Bragg said after the sentencing that that maximum is not enough, adding that “our state law must change so that we can impose more significant penalties and sanctions on corporations that commit crimes in New York.”

Experts have said the bigger problem for the companythan the fineis the conviction because it could affect the Trump Organization’s ability to get bank loans.

In brief remarks to reporters after the sentencing, Bragg suggested there might be more to come. He said the sentencing “closes this important chapter of our ongoing investigation into the former president and his businesses. We now move on to the next chapter.”

The Trump Organization faces other legal problems in the state. State Attorney General Letitia James has filed a $250 million civil suit alleging that the company had been inflating its worth in financial statements to banks and insurers by billions of dollars.

The judge overseeing that case has issued an order blocking the company from transferring assets without court approval and appointed an independent monitor to oversee the company’s financial statements.

Pastor who staged his kidnap twice and collected ransom congregrants confesses

A Jos-based pastor, Albarka Bitrus Sukunya, who was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 11, for allegedly staging his kidnap, has told the police that he did it because he needed the ransom to settle his financial challenges.

The Plateau State Police Command said its investigation revealed that Mr Albarka, a pastor of ECWA Church, conspired with his gang and collected ransom meant for his release.

During a parade at the police headquarters on Thursday, Jan. 12, the pastor said he regretted his action.

He said: “I put myself into these activities because of the financial challenges I am facing with. When I did the first one, I felt guilty. When I went out, the money with me has finished. I was thinking of coming back. I was just confused. That is why I did the second one. I am regretting my action.”

The pastor who also allegedly burnt a vehicle owned by a senior pastor of the church said he didn’t know what came over him.

He said: “I burnt the vehicle because I was guilty of what I did. I was just confused. I don’t even know what came over me. Being a pastor, that is why the spirit of God didn’t allow me to go without confessing my action. I am sorry for what I have done. I am really sorry.

In a statement, the police claimed that the pastor collected the sum of N400,000 on 14 November 2022, and on 30 November of the same year, he staged another kidnap of himself and collected the sum of 200,000 from members of his church

Police said operatives of Nassarawa Gwong Division, Jos-north LGA arrested two other suspects involved in the staged abduction – Baruk Mailale and Nathaniel Bitrus – while effort is being intensified to arrest Aye, the third suspect.

‘Queen Consort, Camilla was dangerous’- Prince Harry alleges (video)

Prince Harry has launched an extraordinary attack on his father, King Charles’ wife Camilla, branding her ‘dangerous’ and a ‘villain’, as he continued his publicity for his explosive memoir Spare.

The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex took aim at the Queen Consort while speaking with CBS News’ 60 Minutes host Anderson Cooper, who questioned Harry about several very damaging allegations he made about Camilla in the book’s pages.

Referring back to a 1995 interview in which his mother, Princess Diana, famously referred to Camilla as the ‘third person in her marriage’, Harry says that this admission turned the now-Queen Consort into a ‘villain’, adding: ‘She needed to rehabilitate her image.’

According to Harry – who also reveals in his book that he and William ‘begged’ their father not to marry Camilla – this desire to transform her public image made her ‘dangerous’.

He accuses his step-mother of ‘trading information’ with the press in an attempt to get more positive stories written about herself, before sensationally suggesting that her ‘connections’ with the media would end up with ‘people or bodies left in the street’.

”Her need to rehabilitate her image made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press,’ he told Cooper, according to an official transcript of the interview.

”And there was open willingness on both sides to trade off information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen Consort, there was gonna be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”

Princess Diana’s interview with the BBC’s Martin Bashir in 1995 marked the first time that she had publicly addressed claims that Charles and Camilla had an affair during her marriage to the then-Prince of Wales.

At the time, she sensationally told Bashir: ‘There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.’

Harry also claims that what he saw as Camilla’s desire to ‘be on the front page and have positive stories written about her’ came from his family’s belief that positive media coverage would ‘improve your reputation or increase the chances of you being accepted as monarch by the British public’.

‘If you are led to believe, as a member of the family, that being on the front page, having positive headlines, positive stories written about you, is going to improve your reputation or increase the chances of you being accepted as monarch by the British public, then that’s what you’re gonna do,’ he adds.

The Duke’s sensational public attack on Camilla is the latest in a line of attacks that he has flung at his stepmother – having already painted  her negatively in his explosive memoir Spare, which was accidentally released in Spain last week.

In a passage in his autobiography, the Duke of Sussex writes: ‘Shortly after our private meetings with her, she began to develop her long-term strategy, a campaign directed at marriage and with time, the Crown (with the blessing of our father, we supposed).

”News stories started appearing in all the newspapers about her conversations with Willy, stories which recounted lots of small details, none of which came from my brother, of course.”

Charles had tried to win over his sons before asking the public to accept Camilla, the book claims. Harry then astonishingly says that meeting the future Queen Consort for the first time was like an ‘injection’. He later says that ultimately he and William approved of Camilla.

He writes: ‘I remember wondering… if she would be cruel to me; if she would be like all the wicked stepmothers in the stories’.

Dr Datti, LP Vice Presidential candidate weeps on national TV [VIDEO]

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed broke down in tears during the Town Hall meeting organized by Channels Television while speaking about insults directed at his family by political opponents.

During the event, which was held on Sunday night, Baba-Ahmed recalled how his family and the memory of his late father became objects of ridicule by political opponents.

He said his family background became the target of attack by these opponents soon after he joined the LP Presidential ticket and took on those who spread misconceptions and falsehoods about his principal, Mr Peter Obi.

He said, “When I joined the ticket, I impeached certain lies against him (Peter Obi) and particularly my good friend on the APC side on the same level. You know when people think they have money, they have power, and the sitting authority is theirs.

“Someone has to tap them on the shoulder. I did and told him to do it and I will do three you know I am capable of doing it.

“However I and my family have been paying a huge price for my attempts to rescue Nigeria. They sent all sorts of people after me.

“I would have been much happier if only they stopped at me as an individual…”

One of the Presidential Campaigns had in one of its public engagements cast aspersions on the Mauritanian heritage of the VP candidate who is a Nigerian from Kaduna State.

Baba-Ahmed became emotional and had to be excused as he stepped off the set to get himself together before he returned.

PSG Owners to buy another European team

The owners of Paris Saint-Germain are looking to purchase another European team and have set their sights squarely on the Premier League.

According to CBS’s Ben Jacobs, the club’s executive committee, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), is “ramping up efforts” to acquire a new team.

A number of Premier League teams, most notably Tottenham Hotspur, are in conversation with them. According to reports, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, chairman and CEO, met with Daniel Levy, the head of Spurs, last week in London for an “exploratory meeting.”

After purchasing PSG in 2011, QSI completely turned around the club’s fortunes, winning eight of the last ten Ligue One championships during a time when French football was completely dominated.

They’ve since acquired a 26 per cent stake in Portuguese side Braga and have been linked with both Roma and Espanyol in Italy and Spain respectively.

It’s claimed QSI, who own beIN Media, are actively looking to step up their expansion with minority club investments. Europe is a priority region, while there is also strong interest to become involved with a South American club.

They appear to be following the model adopted by Manchester City’s owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group. They’ve overseen monumental success with City since completing a takeover in 2008 but in recent years have created the City Football Group and expanded globally.

In July, they completed an £11.2 million takeover of Italian side Palermo, who became the 12th club to be under the CFG umbrella.

They also have Troyes (France), Girona (Spain), Melbourne City (Australia), Lommel (Belgium), Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay), New York City (United States), Mumbai City (India), Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan), Sichuan Jiuniu (China) and Club Bolivar (Bolivia).

However, issues can arise if two clubs who share owners compete in the same European competition as UEFA rules state that no two clubs or more participating may be directly or indirectly controlled by the same entity.

RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg are both able to participate as there is not deemed to be a “decisive influence” over more than one club.

“Russia didn’t kill 600 Ukrainian troops” – Ukraine Army

Ukraine has dismissed Russia’s claims that it carried out a ‘revenge attack’ that killed 600 Ukranian soldiers.

Russia’s defence ministry, in a statement on Sunday, January 8, said the strike on the buildings in Kramatorsk was a revenge operation for the deadly Ukrainian attack last week on a Russian barracks in Makiivka, in part of the Donetsk region controlled by Moscow’s forces, in which at least 89 servicemen were killed.

The statement said Moscow had used what it called reliable intelligence to target the Ukrainian troops. More than 700 Ukrainian troops had been housed in one hostel and more than 600 in another, it said.

“As a result of a massive missile strike on these temporary deployment points of Ukrainian army units, more than 600 Ukrainian servicemen were destroyed,” the defence ministry said.

If true, it would be the single largest loss of Ukrainian troops since Russia invaded on Feb. 24 last year.

Ukraine was believed to have stopped housing troops close together in single facilities after a deadly Russian missile strike on a base in western Ukraine in March which killed dozens.

Ukraine has dismissed the statement, calling it lies.

Also a Reuters reporter said on Sunday that the Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk missed its targets as there were no obvious signs of casualties.

The Reuters team reportedly visited two college dormitories that Moscow said had been temporarily housing Ukrainian personnel.

But neither dormitory in the eastern city of Kramatorsk appeared to have been directly hit or seriously damaged. There were no obvious signs that soldiers had been living there and no sign of bodies or traces of blood.

Serhiy Cherevatyi, a Ukrainian military spokesperson for the eastern region, described the claim of mass casualties as an attempt by the Russian defence ministry to show it had responded forcefully to Ukraine’s recent strikes on Russian soldiers.

“This is an information operation of the Russian defense ministry,” Cherevatyi told Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne News.

The Russian statement named two buildings, the dormitory of a site called College No.47 and a dormitory affiliated with College No.28, both in Kramatorsk.

Photographs by Reuters showed some of the windows broken at the College No.47 dormitory. There was a large crater in the courtyard. The windows of the nearby college had been smashed.

Russia troops killed

The College No.28 dormitory was entirely intact. A crater lay about 50 metres away from it closer to some garages. Some of the college’s windows were smashed.

“It was very loud, it threw people out of their beds. Some people hurt their fingers because of the blast wave,” said Polina, 74, a resident who lives across from one of the dormitories.

“There was an explosion, and then another explosion. The windows shook… Really, there’s nothing else to tell you. Just a normal day,” said Mykhailo, a 41-year-old resident.

Kramatorsk’s mayor earlier said there had been no casualties.

As Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine grinds towards the one-year mark, Russia’s military is under domestic pressure for battlefield successes.

The implementation of “Cashless Nigeria” begins today

In 2012, the Sanusi Lamido-led Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduced cashless policy with the aim of reducing the quantum of physical cash that is being used in the system in an attempt to cut down on cash handling expenses of banks.

The policy was also targeted at getting more of the money in circulation into the system as well as track money laundering activities.

The cashless policy, as at then, prescribed processing fees on daily cash withdrawals and cash deposits that exceed N500,000 for individuals and N3 million for Corporate bodies. The processing fees prescribed are three per cent and five per cent on withdrawals by individuals and corporates respectively while deposits/lodgments are charged two and three per cents also for individuals and corporates respectively.

Although, the policy had taken effect in seven states, namely; Lagos, Abia, Anambra, Kano, Ogun, Rivers as well as Abuja, the CBN, in August 2015, suspended the policy to allow banks deploy the technology that would allow the policy to operate seamlessly.

Since 2015, technological advancement in the Nigerian banking industry has grown exponentially to become one of the best in the world.

In October 2022, the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele stated that the apex bank is committed to making Nigeria 100 per cent cashless.

According to him, all infrastructure that is needed to ensure a smooth working cashless system such as the CBDC, online banking, Payment System Banks (PSBs), point of sale terminals (POS) agent banking, mobile banking and ATMs have since been deployed.

“The destination as far as I am concerned is to achieve 100 per cent cashless economy in Nigeria. I know that those who doubt us will say that 100 per cent cashless is unattainable. Yes it is true, but Nigeria must move from being a predominantly cash economy to a predominantly cashless economy,” he stressed.

Following this, Emefiele had announced the full implementation of the cashless policy effective Monday, January 9, 2023 which places a stricter limit compared to the initial limits placed when the policy was introduced in 2012 and when the pilot stage was implemented nationwide in 2019.According to the new directive which takes effect today, Monday January 9, 2023, individual bank customers cannot withdraw more than N100,000 in cash over the counter, through ATMs or POS in a day. This amounts to N500,000 every week or N2 million in a month. For corporate customers, the withdrawal limit was placed at N5 million per week, translating to N20 million per month.

The circular, which was signed by CBN director, Banking Supervision, Haruna Mustafa, also placed a limit of N100,000 limit on over the counter third party cheques. “Third party cheques above N100,000 shall not be eligible for payment over the counter, while extant limits of N10,000,000 on clearing cheques still subsist.”

In line with the plan of the CBN to ensure that the higher denominated notes will be used as only a store of value as only more of the lower notes will be in circulation, the apex bank had directed that, as against N1,000 and N500 notes that are dispensed by ATMs across the country, naira denominations of N200 and below only must be loaded into ATMs. This would mean that N500 and N1,000 notes can only be collected over the counter at the banking halls or at POS points.

Whilst the amount of cash that can be withdrawn over the counter had been capped at N100,000 in a day, the amount that can be taken from ATMs and Point of sale was limited to N20,000 in a day.

The apex bank, however, noted that, in compelling circumstances where cash withdrawal above the limits is required for legitimate purposes, such requests will be subject to a processing fee of three per cent and five per cent for individuals and corporate organizations, respectively.

In other to be able to exceed the limit, the apex bank said financial institutions are to “obtain the following information from the customer, at the minimum, and upload same on the CBN portal created for the purpose: Valid means of identification of the payee (National ID, International Passport, or Driver’s License), Bank Verification Number (BVN) of the payee, Tax Identification Number (TIN) of both the payee and the payer and Approval in writing by the MD/CEO of the financial institution authorizing the withdrawal.

The circular also noted that banks are to render monthly returns on cash withdrawal transactions above the specified limits to the Banking Supervision, Other Financial Institutions Supervision and Payments System Management Departments as applicable.

Meanwhile, POS operators are seeking new ways to serve thier customers and circumvent the N20,000 limit placed on withdrawals through POS. A POS operator who Spoke with Leadership said he does not expect the service to affect his business. According to him, his service provider, has provided an alternative means to enable individuals withdraw more than N20,000 in a day.

“The new application which the provider introduced in late December last year, allows someone to be able to withdraw more than N20,000.

more security and the BVN and biometrics of the person is taken before the withdrawal is made” he explained.

Another POS operators, said she will encourage her regular customers to make transfers rather than use thier cards to make withdrawals if they want more than N20,000. “I don’t think the policy will really affect my business” she stated.

“I begged security guard who raped me to use condom” – Married nurse

A married nurse, Imolita (surname withheld), has narrated how she was allegedly raped by a security guard, Ibuchi Emmanuel, at a school where she worked as a nurse.

Imolita told the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos State, that she and Emmanuel were on night duty on the day the incident happened.

She said while she was on her way to inspect the school’s clinic before retiring to her desk when the defendant approached her and demanded to see her later that night.

The 35-year-old nurse said around 9 pm while she was at her desk, which had a bed beside it, the defendant knocked on the door to the room, but she hesitated to let him in.

She later let the defendant in after he requested vitamin C from her.

After giving him the drug, she said she offered Emmanuel a seat when he said he had been wanting to say something to her.

According to her, during their discussion, he professed love to her and she replied that she was married with kids.

She said he then proceeded to force himself on her and told her not to bother screaming for help because no one would hear her voice.

Imolita said, “I then told him that I know you are a man but I’m going to fight you so you won’t be able to have your way. While we were dragging each other, he got tired and was like even if he was going to have sex with me, he had no strength left. I then told him to take himself away because I’m not a cheap woman; he should go and look for single girls.”

She said Emmanuel agreed to leave the room but changed his mind and began making moves to kiss, touch and take off her pants, which she resisted.

“He came back and pushed me. After he did, I tried to kick him but he grabbed my legs. By then, I was already laying on my back while he was using his security boots to march my legs. I started begging him not to do what he wanted to do, but he insisted that he must do it.

“I asked him if he knew about the place I came from. I reminded him that I’m from Delta and women from that state don’t meet other men once married. I continued to beg him and told him that his action would cost me my marriage. He said anything that would happen should happen. I told him to hold on and that I had a condom in my bag. He said no and that was when he finished having his way with me,” she added.

During cross-examination, Imolita said the reason she told the defendant to get a condom was that she thought it would give her the chance to escape.

The case was adjourned by Justice Ramon Oshodi till March 22, 2023, for continuation of trial, while the defendant was remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.

Hackers attack over 200 million Twitter users

Hackers have stolen the email addresses of more than 200 million Twitter users and posted them on an online hacking forum, a security researcher has revealed.

The breach “will unfortunately lead to a lot of hacking, targeted phishing and doxxing”, Alon Gal, co-founder of Israeli cybersecurity monitoring firm Hudson Rock, wrote on LinkedIn. He called it “one of the most significant leaks I’ve seen”.

Twitter has not commented on the report, which Gal first posted about on social media on 24 December, nor responded to inquiries about the breach since that date. It was not clear what action Twitter has taken to investigate the issue.

xaScreenshots of the hacker forum, where the data appeared on Wednesday, have circulated online.

Troy Hunt, creator of breach notification site Have I Been Pwned, viewed the leaked data and said on Twitter that it seemed “pretty much what it’s been described as”.

There were no clues to the identity or location of the hacker or hackers behind the breach. It may have taken place as early as 2021, which was before Elon Musk took over ownership of the company last year.

Claims about the size and scope of the breach initially varied with early accounts in December saying 400m email addresses and phone numbers were stolen.

A major breach at Twitter may be of interest to the US Federal Trade Commission who have been monitoring the Elon Musk-owned company for compliance with European data protection rules and a US consent order for months.

Prophet Makes Nigerian Political Prophesy for 2023

Prophet Bisi Olujobi, the founder of Wisdom Church of Christ International in Lagos, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, will win this year’s presidential election.

The septuagenarian prophet revealed in 40 prophecies released in a statement over the weekend that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State will not be re-elected.

According to the cleric, the G-5 Peoples Democratic Party governors led by Governor Nyesom Wike will end up in disarray.

While warning Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to pray that his health does not deteriorate, Prophet Olujobi asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to seek forgiveness from God.

He said:

Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the 2023 general election, Atiku will follow while Obi will take the 3rd lead.

Governors Dapo Abiodun – Ogun; Babajide Sanwo Olu – Lagos; Babagana Zulum – Borno; Bello Matawalle – Zamfara; Mai Mala Buni – Yobe; Mohammed Yahaya – Gombe; Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq – Kwara; Abdullahi Sule – Nasarawa will all be re-elected.

Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde will not be re-elected. His defeat by the main opponent, Senator Teslim Folarin (APC) will be massive.

Imo Governor, Hope Uzodinma should not seek re-election in November 2023. I foresee a massive disgrace if he does.

Deputy Governor of Kogi, Edward Onoja is spiritually favoured to take the mantle from Governor Yahaya Bello.

All G-5 Governors led by Governor Nyesom Wike will end in disarray. I foresee two of them withdrawing their membership.

Ondo Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu should pray. His health will deteriorate and may not end in the office.

Governor Adeleke of Osun will be impeached except he prays very well. He should avoid the Government House for seven months.

Senator Ahmad Lawan’s political career has been buried completely; I see him being jailed after his tenure as the Senate President.

Jimoh Ibrahim and Adeniyi Adegbonmire in Ondo will be elected as Senators. Deacon Segun Adewale should be more prayerful; has a brighter chance in the Lagos West Senatorial seat.

Hon. Jimi Benson’s name will echo in Lagos State, he will be pencilled down as the next Lagos Governor.

Olusegun Obasanjo is playing his last card, he should ask for forgiveness and amend his ways.

Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) also is playing his last card, he should also follow suit

All policies of Godwin Emefiele will summersault. He will eventually be arrested, tried and jailed. This I said earlier in 2022.

My Secret To Our Their Successful Marriage Since 1974 – Charly Boy & Wife

Charly Boy, a controversial artist, and his wife Lady Diane have shared the secret to their long-lasting relationship.

The couple posted a video on Twitter discussing their marital problems and how they occasionally wanted to quit but decided to “manage” and carry on.

They discussed some of the problems they have as a couple and how frequently they fight, claiming it has happened more than 5,000 times. “If he go rise we go manage am, if e no rise, we go manage am. Marriage na management,” they said.

However, they decide to renew their vows and carry on rather than give up. Charly Boy and Lady D renewed their legal marriage vows in 2018.

A well-known clergyman, Bishop Matthew Kukah, reportedly officiated the wedding.

The legal marriage vows between Charly Boy and Lady D were renewed in 2018.

Bishop Matthew Kukah, a well-known clergyman, reportedly officiated the wedding, according to sources.

The two met in a hair shop in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1974, while he was getting his hair done.

Funeral home owner in the US jailed for selling body parts

A 46-year-old funeral home owner, Megan Hess, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on Tuesday for selling body parts in the United States.

According to Reuters, Hess, who pleaded guilty to fraud in July, without the consent of the relatives of the dead, dissected 560 corpses and sold them.

Hess managed a funeral home, Sunset Mesa, and a body parts entity, Donor Services, from the same building in Montrose, Colorado.

She was handed a 20-year jail term in federal prison yesterday, the maximum allowed under the law.

Her 69-year-old mother, Shirley Koch, also pleaded guilty to fraud and was sentenced to 15 years. Koch’s central role was chopping up the bodies, court records showed.

“Hess and Koch used their funeral home at times to essentially steal bodies and body parts using fraudulent and forged donor forms,” prosecutor Tim Neff said in a court filing. “Hess and Koch’s conduct caused immense emotional pain for the families and next of kin.”

The federal case was prompted by a 2016-2018 Reuters investigative series about the sale of body parts in the United States, a virtually unregulated industry.

Former workers told Reuters that Hess and Koch conducted unauthorized dismemberments of bodies, and a few weeks after a 2018 story was published, the FBI raided the business.

In their filing, prosecutors stressed the “macabre nature” of Hess’ scheme and described it as one of the most significant body parts cases in recent U.S. history.

“This is the most emotionally draining case I have ever experienced on the bench,” US District Judge Christine M. Arguello said during Tuesday’s sentencing hearing in Grand Junction, Colorado.

“It’s concerning to the court that defendant Hess refuses to assume any responsibility for her conduct.”

The judge ordered that Hess and Koch be sent to prison immediately.

Hess’ lawyer said she has been unfairly denigrated as a “witch,” a “monster” and a “ghoul,” when instead she is a “broken human being” whose conduct can be attributed to a traumatic brain injury at age 18.

While Hess declined to speak to the judge, her mother, Koch told the judge she was sorry and accepted responsibility for her actions.

Twenty-six victims described their horror at discovering what had happened to their loved ones.

“Our sweet mother, they dismembered her,” Erin Smith said, selling her shoulders, knees and feet for profit. “We don’t even have a name for a crime this heinous.”

Son kidnaps his Dad, collects N2.5M ransom

A man identified as Issa Naigheti has been arrested by Kwara state police command for allegedly kidnapping his father and collecting a ransom of N2.5m.

Ajayi Okasanmi, spokesman of the command, said the suspect was arrested around Kambi area of Ilorin by officers attached to the anti-kidnapping team of the Kwara police command.

Naigheti has reportedly confessed to the crime. Okasanmi said;

“The suspect confessed under interrogation to having conspired with two others to kidnap his father, Bature Naigboho in Igboho/Igbeti area of Oyo State and collected N2.5m ransom”

Okasanmi further revealed that the case would be transferred to Oyo State, which is where the crime took place.

Read Obasanjo’s endorsement letter of Peter Obi

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has publicly declared support for Peter Obi to win the 2023 presidential election.

Obasanjo made the declaration on Sunday in an open letter to the youths in Nigeria.

The letter coincides with the New Year celebration and comes eight weeks to the general polls.

He said though other candidates have the capacity to rule, Peter Obi is the needed needle and thread the country needs.

Obasanjo urged young Nigerians to exercise their right, take active part in the 2023 elections and defend their votes.

MY APPEAL TO ALL NIGERIANS PARTICULARLY YOUNG NIGERIANS

Happy New Year! May all our national calamities disappear this year.

I am constrained to write this letter to all Nigerians, especially young Nigerians, friends of Nigeria globally as well as our development partners because of the gravity, responsibility and implications of the collective decision Nigerians, both young and old, will be making within the next two months.

The last seven and a half years have no doubt been eventful and stressful years for many Nigerians. We have moved from the frying pan to the fire and from the mountain top to the valley. Our leaders have done their best, but their best has turned out to be not the best for Nigeria and Nigerians at home and abroad. For most Nigerians, it was hell on earth.

Those of us who are alive should thank God for His mercies, brace ourselves for the remaining few months of this administration and pray and work very hard for an immediate better future – future of liberation, restoration and great hope and expectation.

We have had campaigners going up and down the country feeding us with what they mean and what they do not mean, what they understand and what they do not fully understand, what is possible and what is not possible, what is realistic and what is unrealistic, what is true and what is untrue. I believe that we need not be confused nor be gullible. Let us be cautious, not to be fooled again.

I have interacted with the major contestants and I find it interesting that, in one form or the other, each of them claims to want to do what I did during my Presidency and to take Nigeria back to where it was at the height of my Presidency and immediately after. I was pained that most of them do not realise that the Nigeria of today had been dragged down well below Nigeria of the beginning of my Presidency in June 1999.

Although at that time, Nigeria was in very bad shape and was tottering on the verge of collapse and break-up. Even then, Nigeria was not faced with the level of pervasive and mind-numbing insecurity, rudderless leadership, buoyed by mismanagement of diversity and pervasive corruption, bad economic policies resulting in extremes of poverty and massive unemployment and galloping inflation.

For these reasons, I kept pointing out to them that the instruments used in 1999 to 2007 and methodology used will grossly be inadequate for the perilous situation we now find ourselves in.

Without prejudice but with greatest respect to each individual with utmost regard for the best for Nigeria and all Nigerians and from my personal experience, all the major contestants claim to be my mentees. I will not deny such positions since I have worked with all of them directly and indirectly in government.

I have come to realise a number of factors in character, attributes and attitude that are necessary in the job of directing the affairs of Nigeria successfully and at a time like this. These characteristics or attributes are many but let us be mindful of some key ones together.

From interaction and experience, and as mentees as most of them claim, I will, without prejudice, fear or ill-will, make bold to say that there are four major factors to watch out for in a leader you will consider to hoist on yourself and on the rest of Nigerians in the coming election and they are what I call TVCP: Track record of ability and performance; Vision that is authentic, honest and realistic; Character and attributes of a lady and a gentleman who are children of God and obedient to God; and Physical and mental capability with soundness of mind as it is a very taxing and tasking assignment at the best of times and more so it is at the most difficult time that we are.

Let me say straight away that ‘Emi Lokan’ (My turn) and ‘I have paid my dues’ are one and the same thing and are wrong attitude and mentality for the leadership of Nigeria now. They cannot form the new pedestal to reinvent and to invest in a new Nigeria based on an All-Nigeria Government for the liberation and restoration of Nigeria. Such a government must have representation from all sectors of our national life – public, private, civil society, professional, labour, employers, and the diaspora. The solution should be in ‘we’ and ‘us’ and not in ‘me’ and ‘I’.

Mind you, I reiterate that no human being is an angel let alone a Messiah, but there are elements of these attributes and on comparative basis and by measure of what we know of, and what some of us have experienced from the front-runners, we must assess judiciously and choose wisely. If anybody claims he or she has anything to the contrary, it will be up to him or her to prove to us.

I pray not to be proved right again in the bad sense but rather to be proved right in the positive and glorious sense of Nigeria becoming what God had created it to be – a land of plenty and prosperity united for common purpose of inclusive society, common security, shared prosperity, equity, egalitarianism, justice, and equal stake in the Project Nigeria with leadership role of Nigeria for the black race and fair share of global division of labour.

One ridiculous point that has been touted to justify unjustifiable appointments and selections is ‘competence’. In truth and in reality, genuine competence can be found in any region or section of Nigeria through track record and performance if only people will honestly and sincerely look hard for people with such attainment and attribute. Most of us in good conscience can testify to competence when we see any anywhere. What is masqueraded as ‘competence’ is self-interest and nepotism.

We have a unique opportunity to correct ourselves by ourselves for the good of ourselves. Those who are preaching division, segregation, separation, and want to use diversity for their own self and selfish interest are enemies of the nation, no matter what else they may disguisedly profess or proclaim.

The Challenge Is For Nigerian Youth:

If we fall prey again, we will have ourselves to blame and no one can say how many more knocks Nigeria can take before it tips over. To be forewarned is to be fore-armed. Future is not emotion. I challenge the youth to arise. Let nobody pull wool over your eyes to divide you and/or segregate you to make you underlings. Nigerian youth, wherever they come from, North or South, East or West need education which is now denied to over 20 million children; Nigerian youth also need skills, empowerment, employment, reasonably good living conditions, welfare and well-being.

My dear young men and women, you must come together and bring about a truly meaningful change in your lives. If you fail, you have no one else to blame. Your present and future are in your hands to make or to mar. The future of Nigeria is in the same manner in your hands and literally so. If for any reason you fail to redeem yourself and your country, you will have lost the opportunity for good and you will have no one to blame but yourselves and posterity will not forgive you. Get up, get together, get going and get us to where we should be. And you, the youth, it is your time and your turn. ‘Eyin Lokan’ (Your turn).

The power to change is in your hands. Your future, my future, the future of grandchildren and great grandchildren is in your hands. Politics and elections are numbers game. You have the numbers, get up, stand up and make your numbers count.

Let me say it again, loud and clear, Nigeria has no business with insecurity, poverty, insurgency, banditry, unemployment, hunger, debt, division and disunity. We are in these situations because advertently or inadvertently, our leaders have made the choices. They have done the best they could do. Let them take their rest deservedly or not and let them enjoy their retirement as Septuagenarians or older.

I became Head of State at 39 and at 42, I had retired into the farm. When it was considered necessary, I was drafted back into active political life after twenty years of interregnum. I came back at 62 and by 70, I was on my way out. Others like General Gowon and Enahoro became national leaders at 33 and 27 respectively and General Gowon at the helms of leadership of Nigeria at the highest level.

The vigour, energy, agility, dynamism and outreach that the job of leadership of Nigeria requires at the very top may not be provided as a septuagenarian or older. I know that from personal experience. And it is glaring out of our current experiences. Otherwise, we will be fed with, “The President says” and we will neither see nor hear him directly as we should.

Yes, for some, age and physical and mental disposition are not in tandem. But where and when they are with obvious evidence, they must be taken into account for purpose of reality. And yet it is a job in our present situation where the team leader or captain of the team should be up and doing, outgoing inside and outside and speaking to the nation on almost daily basis visibly and as much as possible interactively and meeting his colleagues all over the world on behalf of Nigeria.

Youth of Nigeria, your time has come, and it is now and please grasp it. If not now, it will be never. I appeal to you to turn the tide on its head and march forward chanting ‘Awa Lokan’ (Our turn) not with a sense of entitlement, but with a demonstrable ideological commitment to unity and transformation of Nigeria.

Leave The Past, Face The Future:

Can we let the past go? I appeal to the young Nigerians to stop inheriting other people’s prejudices and enemies. Make your own friends and stop inheriting your father’s enemies. Let’s stop criminalizing and demonizing one another on the basis of the civil war on which we are all wrong.

And let’s praise and thank God for preserving the oneness of Nigeria. The Scripture says that if God would take account of all our wrongdoings, nobody would be able to stand before Him. While not suffering from amnesia, let us stop still fighting and reacting to the civil war in our hearts, minds, heads and our attitude acrimoniously. Let’s stop living on our different wrongs or mistakes of the past: treasonable felony, Tiv riot and its handling, first military coup and its aftermath, second military coup, araba, pogrom and the civil war, all in the 1960s.

And more recently OPC, Egbesu, MASSOB, IPOB, Boko Haram and banditry. No region can claim to be innocent or to be saintly. And no justification will suffice. In our respective individual or regional positions, we have done right and we have done wrong. It is therefore not right for any of us to be sanctimonious to see ourselves as saints and the rest as devils incarnate.

Just let us agree to move forward together in mutual forgiveness, one accord, inclusive society, equality and equity. Together and without bias and discrimination, fear or favour, we can have Nigeria of one nation in diversity, in truth and in practice. Let us honour, cherish, respect and even celebrate our diversity which is the basis of our potential greatness and strength. If we will only continue to harp on wrongs done by each of us individually or collectively, we will never be able to stand together.

If we will continue with wide brush to paint a national or sub-national group as bad and never to be trusted with leadership because of past error or mistakes that some of them were responsible for and treat their offspring as inheritors, it will amount to great injustice that will surely lead to no peace, no security and no stability for development and progress.

First, no group is faultless; second, for the greatness of the whole, we need one another as constituents of the whole; third, we cannot be talking and working for Africa’s integration and for Nigeria’s disintegration at the same time. Why for instance should I be stigmatized or despised because of my place of origin, place of birth or where I come from? Where I was born, by whom I was born and when I was born were not choices made by me. They were choices and prerogatives of God.

Any antagonism against me on that basis is unfair and is tantamount to fighting against God, the Creator. Such derogatory attitude and mindset do not build any human institution let alone a nation. While not forgetting the past, let us put the past behind us for it not to continue to mar our present and our future and that of the coming generation.

We must rise above primordial animalistic instincts and behaviour. Yes, we are human and higher than animals in the wild. Let us develop national ethos and national characteristics that can take us collectively to the promised.

My dear young men and women, let me assure you that there are only two tribes of people in Nigeria a tribe of good people and a tribe of bad people. You are either a good Nigerian of Igbo extraction, Kanuri extraction, etc, or a bad Nigerian of Yoruba extraction, Ijaw extraction etc.

I will at this juncture want to commend the politicians as they have generally been reasonably civil in their campaigns without making politics as a call to war against opponents. Genuine and fair competition conveys greater legitimacy in any political rivalry or competition.

A situation where people in authority and power assume such positions through foul and despicable means and continue to espouse and act in ways that only engender conflict or war by subverting legitimacy of power and authority does not augur well for the polity and as such, the moral foundation of the government and the society will be terribly weakened.

May God help, save, protect and sustain Nigeria for all Nigerians, for Africa and for the human race. We can only continue to play politics of ethnicity, religion, region and money bags at the peril of our country and to self-destruction. We need selfless, courageous, honest, patriotic, in short, outstanding leadership with character and fear of God beyond what we have had in recent past.

None of the contestants is a saint but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding, knowledge, discipline and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge.

Others like all of us have what they can contribute to the new dispensation to liberation, restoration and salvaging of Nigeria collectively. One other important point to make about Peter is that he is a needle with thread attached to it from North and South and he may not get lost. In other words, he has people who can pull his ears, if and when necessary. Needless to say that he has a young and able running mate with clean track record of achievement both in public and private life.

In conclusion, I want to bring to our remembrance part of the great speech that Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa made on October 7, 1960, on the occasion of Nigeria being admitted as the 99th member of the United Nations: “Cooperation is for each man to be true to his religious belief and to reaffirm the basic principles of his particular creed.

It may be that, when we hear the world crying out for peace, we may receive the inspiration to deal with these intractable problems and be able to really devote all our resources to the advancement of mankind by applying those eternal truths which will inevitably persist long after we ourselves are utterly forgotten”.

The Tafawa Balewas are gone. But the eternal truths inevitably remain and persist that cooperation, friendship, justice, equity, love and fear of God which are hallmarks of the three religions practised in this country are the basis of our full and fulfilled lives and living as Nigerians. In faith as Nigerians, we must pray and relate with God as it depends on Him and at the same time, in faith also we must work as it depends on us. Then we will win.

May God continue to help us individually and collectively.

Psychic man, who predicted notable predictions – makes fresh revelations ..

A psychic, Craig Hamilton-Parker has warned of ‘difficult times ahead’ in 2023, predicting global food shortages, a revolution in China and a tragic accident within the royal family.

Craig Hamilton-Parker, known as the ‘new Nostradamus’, correctly predicted the pandemic, Brexit, Donald Trump becoming president and even the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

He also saw a ‘vision’ of King Charles being hit by eggs, which came true weeks later.

He says he can see into the future and works with his wife Jane who is the spiritual medium.

Craig, aged 68, has been practising the psychic arts since his early 20s after being inspired by Nadi astrologists during a visit to India.

Revealing his 2023 predictions, Craig believes the world will avoid World War Three in 2023 and in 2024, and will start shifting away from globalism to embrace sustainability and discover how to create energy out of nothing.

He said King Charles’ first year as monarch will go smoothly.

‘I see him as being a reforming king,’ he said to Metro UK

‘Doing this not just to appeal to the British people but with a worldwide remit in mind by keeping Australia on board for example.

‘But I get some strange feelings about the coronation itself and about what they call the stone of scone.

‘The stone of scone was used during the old coronation of the Scottish kings that was stolen by Edward and brought back to Westminster and only in recent years was it given back to the Scots.

‘I have weird feelings about Scotland, some kind of protest or someone trying to steal the stone and its tied in within Scotland because I’ve had a vision of a red-faced Nicola Sturgeon.

‘In a deep meditation state recently and when in contact with my spirit guides Prince Andrew appeared and something awful happened to him.

‘I think he will go through a psychological breakdown and it really hits him with the death of his mother and I see King Charles turning against him.

‘He may do something like take an overdose but I didn’t see him dying.

‘I also have feelings about the psychological health of King Charles and him admitting later in the year of a depression after the high of the coronation.’

Craig also predicts an accident happening to one of the royal household, who he feels will suffer from a fall, as well as an illness involving one of the royal children.

He also predicts Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry will begin to fracture and they’ll eventually break-up, leading the duke to become a ‘deeply troubled’ man.

He added that Meghan Markle will end up with her own Oprah-style chat show.

Craig also predicts Kate will carry out a ‘spontaneous’ but ‘touching’ act which puts her life at risk, and she will be viewed as the new ‘star’ in the royal family.

He then talked about other pressing issues which are set to impact the nation.

Craig said: ‘The most pressing issue in 2023 will be food shortages which will start off in developing nations.

‘There are hints right now this is an issue but next year this is set to become more serious.

‘It will have a major impact on nations across the west which will also continue to battle with energy and living costs.’

Talking about global affairs, Craig said he had a vision of two submarines crashing off the coast of Taiwan and explained what this means.

‘There will be full out war between Taiwan and China,’ he said.

‘Jane my wife also recently felt the energy of Sun Yat-Sen, the father of the Chinese nation.

‘Now he was instrumental in spearheading the Xinhai Revolution which overthrew the Qing dynasty.

‘This means full on revolution will return to China because of the increasing number of lockdown laws as well as spiralling mortgage rates.

‘Interestingly, I believe this will be started in Mongolia and while rumblings can be felt now this will escalate into full on revolution.’

War is set to continue in Ukraine but we will luckily avoid a World War Three scenario, Craig believes.

Craig said he had a vision of a power station on fire in Iran and said: ‘With a new government in power in Israel, tension in the Middle East will rise once again.

‘There will be an escalation in aggression between both Israel and Iran which will result in war.

‘I would say there are two difficult years ahead.

‘Into 2024 and beyond, I sense a new consciousness will take hold across the world, against globalism and an embrace of sustained harmony centred around sustainability and environmentalism.

‘We will discover how to create energy out of nothing and this will do wonders for the human race into the latter part of this decade.’ he concluded

Lula da Silva becomes Brazil’s president as Jair Bolsonaro flees to US

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been sworn in as Brazil’s president while his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro flee to the US after refusing to concede defeat

In a speech to Congress on Sunday after officially taking the reins of Latin America’s biggest country, Lula said democracy was the true winner of the October presidential vote when he ousted Bolsonaro.

‘Democracy was the great victor in this election, overcoming … the most violent threats to freedom to vote, and the most abject campaign of lies and hate plotted to manipulate and embarrass the electorate,’ Lula told lawmakers.

Lula, who was behind bars during Bolsonaro’s 2019 inauguration on graft convictions that were later overturned, issued a threat to his predecessor.

Bolsonaro faces mounting legal risks for his anti-democratic rhetoric and his handling of the pandemic now that he no longer has presidential immunity.

Lula da Silva sworn in as Brazil

The former president’s trip to Orlando, Florida, insulates him from any immediate legal jeopardy in Brazil.

‘We do not carry any spirit of revenge against those who tried to subjugate the nation to their personal and ideological designs, but we will guarantee the rule of law,’ Lula said, without mentioning his predecessor by name. ‘Those who erred will answer for their errors.’

He also accused Bolsonaro’s administration of committing ‘genocide’ by failing to respond properly to the COVID-19 virus that killed more than 680,000 Brazilians.

‘The responsibilities for this genocide must be investigated and must not go unpunished,’ he said.

Lula’s plans for government provided a contrast to Bolsonaro’s four years in office, which were characterized by backsliding on environmental protections in the Amazon rainforest, looser gun laws, and weaker protections for indigenous peoples and minorities.

Lula da Silva sworn in as Brazil

Lula said he wants to turn Brazil, one of the world’s top food producers, into a green superpower.

He reinforced his commitment to ending deforestation in the Amazon, which surged to a 15-year high under Bolsonaro, and to revoking Bolsonaro’s looser gun policies, which prompted a sharp rise in gun ownership.

‘Brazil does not want more weapons, it wants peace and security for its people,’ he said.

Elon Musk becomes first person in history to lose $200B

Billionaire Elon Musk, formerly the richest man in the world, has broken a new record as the first person in history to lose $200 billion.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, the Tesla founder and Twitter owner lost $200 billion off his net worth.

It was gathered that Musk’s wealth plummeted to $137 billion following the decline in Tesla shares in recent week. This includes a massive 11 per cent fall in Tesla shares on December 27.

Tesla is now offering consumers in the United States a $7,500 discount for its two highest-volume models before year-end.

Recall Musk’s fortune topped at $340 billion in November 2021.

On the back of this, he was the world’s richest person for more than a year at a stretch.

The new Twitter owner was then overtaken this month by Bernard Arnault, the French business magnate and co-founder of luxury goods powerhouse LVMH.

Opinion: What’s the worth of Obasanjo’s endorsement?

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo used to be a chimera. His influence was mythical yet sweeping. In the past, Nigeria was too small to contain his stature — as he dominated the horizons across Africa and beyond. He lived up to his legend of being a human Orisa. He is, perhaps, still one of the most respected leaders out of Africa.

But Obasanjo’s influence within Nigeria appears to have ebbed over the years. His words seem to have lost lustre and his presence vacant of command. Perhaps, when a masquerade comes out to perform all the time, and sometimes without an invitation, it loses its allure and charm.

From 2007 (after he left office) up until 2014, Obasanjo had his wonder and thunder. His position on national matters mattered and was sought after. His missives were denominated ‘’letter bombs’’ for their sheer quality to inflict maximum casualty on the target and sway public opinion.

In 2013, former President Goodluck Jonathan suffered ‘’casualty’’ from one of Obasanjo’s missives. Obasanjo wrote an open letter which technically put a nail to the re-election bid of Jonathan.

In the letter titled ‘’Before it is too late’’, Obasanjo accused Jonathan of many malfeasances. He said: ‘’Allegation of keeping over 1000 people on political watch list rather than criminal or security watch list and training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his own killers, if it is true, it cannot augur well for the initiator, the government, and the people of Nigeria.’’

He also accused Jonathan of cleaving Nigeria apart – along the weak seams of north-south and Christian-Muslim. According to him, Jonathan was favouring and promoting his Ijaw kin to the disadvantage of other Nigerians.

Obasanjo’s letter was well-celebrated. It was held up as a definitive and summary verdict on the administration of Jonathan. Obasanjo himself was hailed for his ‘’courage and forthrightness’’, and for his audacity to look power in the eye and spit the truth. But all of that changed after the 2015 elections owing to his overbearing deportment.

In 2018, just three years after President Buhari came to power, Obasanjo applied himself to his accustomed enterprise. He dispatched an open letter to Buhari, accusing him of incompetence. According to Obasanjo: ‘’The lice of poor performance in government – poverty, insecurity, poor economic management, nepotism, gross dereliction of duty, condonation of misdeed – if not outright encouragement of it, lack of progress and hope for the future, lack of national cohesion and poor management of internal political dynamics and widening inequality – are very much with us today.’’

In the build-up to the 2019 elections, Obasanjo fired a salvo. He accused Buhari of failing to address insecurity, of nepotism and of sundry ineptitudes. But Buhari earned the endorsement of Nigerians to serve a second time as president.

Obasanjo said: ‘’For over ten years, for four of which you have been the captain of the ship, Boko Haram has menacingly ravaged the land and in spite of government’s claim of victory over Boko Haram, the potency and the activities of Boko Haram, where they are active, remain undiminished, putting lie to government’s claim. The main issue, if I may dare say, is poor management or mismanagement of diversity which, on the other hand, is one of our greatest and most important assets. As a result, the very onerous cloud is gathering. And the rain of destruction, violence, disaster, and disunity can only be the outcome.’’

In 2021, Obasanjo reprised himself in another letter to Buhari. But over time, his take or opinion on national matters has become tepid, vapid, and lacking in magnetism to hold public interest and to sway public opinion. His opinions have lost the power to cause mortal damage. And those who once eulogised him as the incarnation of courage, truth, and honesty are now his fiercest critics.

It seems that Obasanjo wrestles with anyone he fails to control and abominates anyone who resists his impingements.

Has the Ebora Owu been demystified? What is the worth of Obasanjo’s endorsement? In the heat of the political liaisons in 2022, Obasanjo’s hilltop mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun state, became a cynosure of political pilgrimage as politicians fell over themselves to seek his endorsement of their bids. The rat race for Obasanjo’s endorsement. At the time, supporters of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, claimed that the former governor had the blessing of Obasanjo. Although Obasanjo concealed his intentions in pretensions of statesmanship, it was well-noised he was favourably disposed towards Peter Obi’s candidature.

But the former president has cast aside the veil, and has declared support for Peter Obi, today, January 1, 2023.

The truth is Obasanjo’s endorsement cannot take Peter Obi to the presidency. It cannot take him anywhere.

Obasanjo is a big masquerade. His place in Nigeria’s political progression is undisputed. When iconic leaders are to be counted, Obasanjo will have a place. But in the cycle of life, there comes a time when the big masquerade will have to retire – when there is no one left in the crowd.

Foreigners buying in Canada properties will no longer be allowed as from January 1st

Canada’s Prime Minister Justine Trudeau recently announced a new Canadian law that effectively prohibits foreign buyers from investing in residential properties for two years. Nairametrics gathered that the law went into effect on January 1.

The law was enacted as a result of the rise in Canadian home prices since the pandemic.

Some politicians believe that foreign investors are to blame for this because they are buying up available homes as investments.

  • “The desirability of Canadian homes is attracting profiteers, wealthy corporations, and foreign investors. This is leading to a real problem of underused and vacant housing, rampant speculation, and skyrocketing prices. Homes are for people, not investors,” the Prime Minister had said.

There are some exceptions: The law makes an exception for foreign nationals who are immigrants or permanent residents of Canada.

But even before the law went into effect in 2022, the sharp increase in home prices that occurred in 2020 and 2021 had already been reversed, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA).

CREA also indicated that the average home price in Canada reached to around more than $800,000 in February and has since been steadily declining, dropping by about 13% from that time.

Although the inventory of available homes for sale has returned to pre-pandemic levels, CREA’s price index is still up by 38% from the end of 2019, before the pandemic.

A likely retaliation: According to CREA, Canadians are the largest foreign buyers of real estate in the United States, with more than half of their purchases being in Florida and Arizona.

So there are worries that the ban might lead to retaliation from the US and Mexico, which would forbid Canadians from making purchases there, particularly retirees looking for winter residences outside of Canada.

What this means: Asides from those who intend to move to Canada, the real estate association expressed concern about the law for foreigners already living there.

For instance, this ban on the purchase of residential property may reduce Canada’s reputation as a multicultural country that welcomes immigrants from all over the world, especially those from Nigeria.

Qatar 2022: Read how Mbappe motivated his teammates before scoring hat-trick

Kylian Mbappe’s rousing team talk with France team-mates at half time of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final has now been revealed.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar delivered a rousing half-time speech to his national teammates while they were 2-0 down.

Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria fired the South Americans into a deserved 2-0 lead by the break.

But the Europeans came into the second-half more prepared to fight and Mbappe’s quick-fire double with 10 minutes to go pulled France level and forced extra time.

With less than 12 minutes to the end of the second half extra-time, Messi put Argentina in the lead once more but Mbappe then scored his third goal to drag the game into a shootout which the South American country won 4-2.

Telefoot has now revealed footage of the 23-year-old’s speech to his teammates.

“We can’t do worse than what we did,” Mbappe began.

“We go back on the pitch, either we let them play or we go in, put some intensity in the duels and do something else, guys.

“It’s a World Cup final. It’s done.

“They scored two goals, we are down two goals. We can come back. Guys, this is every

Sports: Nigeria qualifies for 2024 Youth Winter Olympics

Team Nigeria Curlers has qualified for the curling event of the 2024 Youth Winter Olympics.

The President of the Nigeria Curling Federation, Daniel Damola confirmed the country’s qualification for both the Mixed and Mixed Doubles events.

The 2024 Youth Winter Olympics is scheduled to take place in the Gangwon Province, South Korea from January 19 to February 1.

According to him, Nigeria’s qualification for the Youth Winter Olympics was secured after the country became the sole participating team from Africa at the World Junior B Curling championship held in Finland.

He said the qualification ticket and the official notification will be sent to the Nigeria Olympic Committee in March 2023.

“Well done, Team Nigeria youth curlers for making history again by becoming the first African Nation to qualify for the 2024 Youth Winter Olympics. We are proud of you all and the boys’ team as well. Still, we rise,” Damola said.

Damola who also noted that the recent successes have been from personal sacrifices since there has been zero sponsorship from government quarters, stated that more can be achieved if the Federation gets the needed support.

“Not minding that there was no support from anybody, government, NOC or sponsors, we achieved this. That means if we had sponsors, you can only imagine what we would have achieved. Like I always say, still we rise at the Nigerian curling.

“The beautiful thing about the whole success is that we actualised the dream using the locals, the home-based athletes and children from the grassroots.

“This is a life-changing thing for all of them and basically for the country as well. For us to pull out this historic achievement using only home-based youth athletes, the first of its kind in the entire African region. I’m glad and happy. I’m happy with the staff and management, from the cleaner to the presidency. It is a team success and I thank God for everything.”

Taliban Govt. suspends university education for Afghan women

Afghanistan’s Taliban-run education ministry has suspended university education for female students until further notice.

A letter published Tuesday, Dec. 20, by the higher education ministry instructed Afghan public and private universities to suspend access to female students immediately, in accordance with a Cabinet decision.

This comes after girls were barred from returning to secondary schools in March, after the Taliban ordered schools for girls to shut just hours after they were due to reopen following months long closures imposed after the Taliban takeover in August 2021.

The announcement banning university education for women by the Taliban came as the United Nations Security Council met in New York on Afghanistan.

Foreign governments have said that a change in policies on women’s education is needed before it can consider formally recognising the Taliban-run administration, which is also subject to heavy sanctions.

“The Taliban cannot expect to be a legitimate member of the international community until they respect the rights of all Afghans, especially the human rights and fundamental freedom of women and girls,” U.S. Deputy U.N. Ambassador Robert Wood told the council, describing the move as “absolutely indefensible.”

Britain’s U.N. Ambassador Barbara Woodward said the suspension was “another egregious curtailment of women’s rights and a deep and profound disappointment for every single female student.”

“It is also another step by the Taliban away from a self-reliant and prosperous Afghanistan,” she told the council.

JAMB UTME announces Registration Date for 2023 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will commence registration for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from Saturday, January 14 to Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 20, by the board’s Head of Media and Information, Mister Fabian Benjamin, the examination body stated some major dates for its activities in 2023 at the end of its management meeting held in Abuja.

JAMB’s spokesman said Direct Entry registration would commence from Monday, 20th February to Thursday, 20th April 2023.

JAMB’s head of public affairs and protocol, Fabian Benjamin, said in a statement that the management of the board made the approvals at a meeting on Tuesday.

Mr Benjamin said the 2023 UTME registration begins Saturday, 14 January 2023, and ends Tuesday, 14th February 2023.

He said the computer-based UTME test will be conducted between Saturday, 29th April 2023, and Monday, 12th May 2023.

The agency also fixed Thursday, 16th March 2023, for the conduct of its optional mock UTME.

Meanwhile, Mr Benjamin said registration for the Direct Entry (DE) candidates is scheduled for Monday, 20th February to Thursday, 20th April 2023.

The board, however, made changes to the modus operandi of the mock UTME usually conducted before the main tests.

He said candidates are now required to pay N1,000 during registration, to prevent losses for the operators of CBT centres should the candidates fail to turn up for the mock exams.

While Mock UTME is voluntary, JAMB said many candidates had in the past failed to show up on the date of the mock exams after CBT centres must have prepared for the tests.

He said: “Candidates are to note that they would be required to pay the sum of N1000 service charge for CBT centres for the conduct of mock examination at the point of registration to prevent a situation where candidates would indicate their interest to sit the mock-UTME leading the various centres to commit human and material resources only for them to stay away on the day of the examination.

“With the new arrangement, candidates indicate their interest by paying for the mock at the point of UTME registration, therefore, precluding the centres from incurring any loss whether candidates turn up or not.

The Board advises all candidates, who desire to register for the 2023 UTME to immediately embark on the creation of their respective profiles (creation of profile code) ahead of the formal commencement of the registration exercise to avoid being caught up in any ensuing bottleneck.”

Read: Donald Trump’s tax paid to the US Govt released

The amount of income, deductions and taxes paid by former US President Donald Trump as disclosed in his annual federal tax returns while serving in the White House has been released in a new report.

The report by the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation was posted online on Tuesday night, December 20 shortly after the House Ways and Means Committee voted to make public redacted versions of Trump’s full income tax returns, and those of eight related business entities for the tax years 2015 through 2020.

From the report it was found that the Internal Revenue Service failed to audit former Donald J. Trump during his first two years in office despite a program that makes the auditing of sitting presidents mandatory.

The report revealed that the IRS had started an audit of just one of Trump’s tax returns while he was serving as president.

The report reveals that Trump on his federal tax returns declared negative income in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020, and that he paid a total of $1,500 in income taxes for the years 2016 and 2017.

On their 2020 income tax returns, Trump and his wife Melania paid no federal income taxes and claimed a refund of $5.47 million, according to the report by the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation.

The 39-page report by the Joint Committee on Taxation staff gives a breakdown of the highlights of Trump’s joint tax filings with Melania during his time in office, and the two years he first ran for president.

The report identifies different areas that the taxation staff thought warranted further examination, such as documentation of nearly $506,000 in charitable donations claimed by the Trumps in 2019.

Highlights of the report include:

-On their 2015 federal return, Trump and his wife declared negative income of $31.7 million, with taxable income of $0. The couple paid federal income taxes of $641,931.

-The 2016 return declared negative income of $31.2 million, with zero dollars of taxable income. The Trumps paid $750 in taxes.

-The 2017 return declared negative income $12.8 million, with $0 in taxable income. The couple paid $750 in taxes.

-The 2018 return declared total income of $24.4 million, with taxable income of $22.9 million. The Trumps paid $999,466 in federal income taxes.

-In 2019, the Trumps declared $4.44 million in total income, and $2.97 million in taxable income. They paid $133,445 in taxes.

-The 2020 return shows negative income of $4.69 million, with zero dollars in taxable income. The tax paid by the Trumps was $0 and they claimed a refund of $5.47 million.

Catholic Priest accused of sodomising 2 nuns in a ‘Holy Trinity’ threesome

A priest has been accused of initiating a “holy” threesome with two nuns to replicate the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Marko Ivan Rupnik, 68, is thought to have invited two nuns to join him in the act and allegedly used “psycho-spiritual” methods of control to get his victims to have sex with him and watch porn.

Rupnik was a spiritual director of a Slovenian convent at the time of the alleged incidents.

The former nun who accused him, now 58, said she complained about the infractions at the time, but claimed her concerns were ignored for years.

The former nun told Italian investigative newspaper Domani on Sunday: “Father Marko started slowly and sweetly getting inside my psychological and spiritual world, exploiting my uncertainties and fragility and using my relationship with God to push me into sexual experiences with him.”

“It was truly an abuse of conscience,” she added.

The ex-nun said Rupnik had groomed her and taken her virginity before keeping her silent using bullying tactics from 1987 to 1994, when she was a sister at the convent.

She claimed Rupnik asked her and another nun to have sex with him as a way to recreate the three-way relationship between God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost.

She doesn’t think she’s alone in suffering abuse at the hands of the clergyman. She thinks he may have abused up to 20 women.

“He should have been stopped 30 years ago,” the nun said.

In response to the unnamed nun’s claims, the Jesuit order has called for other victims to come forward and said: “You will be listened to with understanding and with empathy.”

This latest allegations is just the latest in a stream of accusations against Rupnik, spanning decades.

Rupnik, a well-known artist in the Church, was accused of sexual misconduct in Slovenia in the 1990s, but these claims only came to light earlier this month.

Speaking on the accusations, the priest’s order said the Vatican had investigated Rupnik, but had ruled that the statute of limitations applied, meaning that too much time had passed from the date of the alleged offence for legal proceedings to begin, and that Rupnik wouldn’t be punished.

Days after the investigation took place, in May 2020, Rupnik was reportedly excommunicated – meaning he was excluded from participating in services of the Church – for committing a serious sin in the Church: using a confessional to absolve a woman he had had sexual relations with.

The excommunication was lifted just a month later after Rupnik repented.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, Rupnik’s boss, Reverend Johan Verschueren, issued an appeal for further information or claims against Rupnik and said he wanted to clarify some questions thrown up by the new allegations.

“My main concern in all of this is for those who have suffered, and I invite anyone who wishes to make a new complaint or who wants to discuss complaints already made to contact me,” he said.

Europe: Netherlands to make official apology for slavery

About 150 years after the end of slavery in its former colonies, the Netherlands on Monday said it will officially apologise for the injustice.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte plans to give a speech on slavery at the National Archives in The Hague later in the day.

The cabinet representatives are also scheduled to speak in the former Dutch colony of Suriname in South America as well as on the six Caribbean islands that still belong to the Dutch kingdom today.

The Netherlands was once the third largest colonial power in the world and enslaved an estimated 500,000 people for over 200 years.

They were mostly abducted from West Africa, sold and forced to work on the plantations in Suriname and the Antilles.

The Dutch kingdom was one of the last countries in Europe to officially abolish slavery on July 1, 1863, but the actual end came only in 1873.

Descendants of slaves and inhabitants of the colonies especially, had at that time, campaigned for an apology for years but Prime Minister Rutte’s government refused to do so.
