Tragedy Strikes in Dei-Dei, Abuja: Woman Dies After Mysterious Visit to Boyfriend

A harrowing incident has sent shockwaves through the Dei-Dei community in Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the reported death of a woman, identified as Esther, after a visit to her boyfriend in early 2026. The incident, which unfolded on January 21, 2026, has left her family and locals grappling with questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

A Fateful Visit and Disturbing Claims

According to local resident Dauda, Esther left her home in the afternoon of January 21, 2026, informing her family she was heading to a bank in Dei-Dei. However, she never returned. Later that night, her elder brother received an anonymous call from a man identifying himself as Esther’s boyfriend. Dauda recounted the details from the call:

“She had visited him at his residence, where he allegedly prepared food for her. After eating, she began vomiting violently, prompting him to rush her to Kubwa General Hospital. He claimed she died while receiving treatment there.”

The boyfriend, however, has since cut off communication, switching off both his and Esther’s mobile phones. The caller did not provide his name, address, or any evidence to substantiate his account.

Police Confirm Investigation

The FCT Police Command has acknowledged the incident. When contacted by local media on Friday (January 24, 2026), the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, stated:

“We are aware of the incident and are currently conducting an investigation. We urge members of the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and to cooperate with our officers as we work to uncover the truth.”

Unanswered Questions and Community Outcry

While the boyfriend’s version of events paints a picture of an unexpected tragedy, many in the community, including Dauda, find the circumstances deeply suspicious. The abrupt disappearance of Esther, the sudden illness after eating, and the boyfriend’s silence have fueled speculation about foul play.

“Esther was a healthy woman with no known medical history. For her to die so suddenly after eating food he gave her, and for him to vanish, is very concerning,” Dauda stated.

A Call for Justice and Caution

As the investigation unfolds, Esther’s family has reportedly sought the assistance of local authorities and human rights activists to demand answers. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked discussions about the need for greater safeguards for relationships and the importance of verifying claims in such sensitive cases.

Final Thoughts

This tragic case serves as a sobering reminder of the complexities surrounding personal relationships and the challenges faced by authorities in unraveling such incidents. As the FCT Police continue their probe, the public awaits clarity on what led to Esther’s untimely death. For now, the Dei-Dei community mourns a life lost and hopes for justice to prevail.
