Newcastle Pushes Ahead in Sesko Race with Enhanced £69.7m Bid, Battling Manchester United

Newcastle United have significantly increased their bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, tabling a persuasive £69.7 million (€80 million) offer as they look to strengthen their attacking options amid uncertainty surrounding key players.

The Magpies find themselves in pressing need of a new formidable presence up front. This urgency stems from the departure of Callum Wilson, who left the club at the end of his contract, coupled with the increasingly uncertain future of star forward Alexander Isak. Isak is heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Liverpool, who have already seen one offer for the Swedish international reportedly rejected.

In a direct attempt to ‘steal a march’ on Premier League rivals Manchester United, Newcastle have submitted an improved offer for the highly-rated Slovenian international. According to Sky Germany, their latest proposal stands at a substantial £69.7 million (€80 million) as a fixed fee, with additional add-ons. This represents a significant uplift from their initial reported bid of £65.3 million plus £4.36 million (€75 million + €5 million) in bonuses.

Manchester United remain firmly in the race for Sesko’s signature, having reportedly been in detailed talks with Leipzig regarding the structure of a potential deal. The Red Devils are keen to secure the 21-year-old’s services and provide fierce competition for Newcastle.

The decision now largely rests with Sesko himself. The striker is said to be weighing up his options and is yet to make a definitive choice regarding which English club he prefers to join. Earlier in the summer, a proposed move to Arsenal fell through, indicating the long-standing interest in the prolific forward.

As the transfer window progresses, Newcastle’s ambitious move for Sesko underscores their determination to secure top-tier talent and ensure their attacking prowess remains formidable. Landing Sesko would not only provide a much-needed boost but also send a clear statement of intent, especially if Isak’s potential departure materializes. The coming days will be crucial as Sesko makes his highly anticipated decision.
