Kcee Breaks Silence on Rumored Rift with Flavour: “It’s Not About the Rejection, But Superiority Complex”

The Nigerian music industry has been abuzz with rumors of a rift between popular singers Kcee and Flavour. The duo had a social media skirmish in 2024, which sparked speculation about a long-standing feud. In a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee addressed the rumors and shed light on the circumstances surrounding their supposed beef.

According to Kcee, the root of the issue may not be the rejection he gave Flavour when he was brought to him by talent manager Soso Soberekon years ago. At the time, Kcee was already an established artist, driving exotic cars and enjoying success, while Flavour was still an up-and-coming act. Kcee claimed that he didn’t see potential in Flavour and therefore declined to offer him a record deal.

However, Kcee believes that the real reason for the rift is Flavour’s superiority complex. He explained that some of his colleagues, including Flavour, have always underestimated his talent and doubted his abilities. Kcee attributes this to his humble nature, which he says has led people to believe that he is not talented because he doesn’t brag about his skills.

“I don’t think that was why he is holding a grudge against me,” Kcee said, referring to the rejection. “But time shall tell. A lot of my colleagues underrate my talent and my humility also contributed to that. Because I don’t brag. I don’t need it. But as I always say, time will always prove them wrong. My work always proves every doubter wrong.”

Kcee also recalled the incident that sparked the social media skirmish, where Flavour allegedly shaded someone for copying his musical style. Kcee responded to the shade, warning Flavour to stop trying to gatekeep Igbo cultural music and reminding him that he was in the industry before him.

“Till now, I don’t understand the reason for his beef with me, especially that incident where he alleged that someone was copying him,” Kcee said. “The truth is that when some people had written you off, hoping that you would be stagnant, and you work hard and get to a level they don’t expect you to reach, that was what happened.”

Kcee’s comments suggest that the rift between him and Flavour may be more complex than initially thought. While the rejection may have played a role, it seems that Flavour’s perceived superiority complex and Kcee’s humility have contributed to the tension between them.

As the Nigerian music industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds. Will Kcee and Flavour be able to put their differences aside and move forward, or will the rift continue to simmer? Only time will tell. One thing is certain, however: Kcee’s talent and hard work have proven his doubters wrong, and he remains a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
