Lagos State police command have arrested a 36 year old robbery suspect, Amos Daniel after stealing his employer’s car on his first day as a driver.
The suspect claimed he took the car to his church to testify about “God’s miraculous provision.”
The police also paraded two dismissed soldiers, Akeem Suleiman and Abdulau Mohammed, along with two civilian accomplices, who were part of a robbery syndicate that operated in Lagos.
They were apprehended with military headgear, uniforms, and identity cards, which they used during their operations.
Additionally, 25-year-old Thankgod Kesh-David, who posed as a mechanic and stole vehicles under the guise of repairs, was also paraded.
While briefing newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, the command’s spokesman, revealed the successful arrest of the gang by the tactical team in Surulere.
He explained that the four-man gang had been snatching vehicles at gunpoint in Lagos for a considerable time.
The police image maker stressed the importance of conducting thorough background checks when hiring drivers or domestic staff, suggesting they should be verified at the Central Criminal Registry and the forensic unit before employment.
However, the suspects are set to be charged in court.
