Fuel Tanker Carrying 45,000 Litres Tumbles in Ibadan, Spilling Contents

Ibadan, Oyo State – A petroleum tanker with a capacity of 45,000 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) tumbled at the Eleyele area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, causing its contents to gush out profusely. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, prompted a swift response from the Oyo State Fire Service to manage the hazardous situation.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Mr. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, the tanker veered off the road into a nearby ditch opposite AIB Filling Station, Eleyele.

Akinwande confirmed that the tanker, bearing the number plate LAGOS T21044 LA, swerved unexpectedly, leading to the substantial spillage of its highly flammable cargo. Men of the agency were immediately mobilised to the scene to mitigate any potential dangers.

“Immediately the address was taken, a crew of firemen led by CFS Olayiwola promptly deployed to the scene of the incident,” Akinwande stated. “On getting there, it was a trailer tanker with registration No. T21044LA (LAGOS) loaded with a 45,000-litre capacity of PMS, swerved off the road into a nearby ditch, and the contents gushed out profusely.”

He further reported that emergency responders successfully managed the situation. “The petrol trailer tanker has since been removed from the road, and normal vehicular movement has been restored, and everyday activities are going on properly,” Akinwande concluded, indicating that the immediate threat was contained and normalcy had returned to the area.
