Romelu Lukaku confirms signing for Chelsea (photos)

Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku has returned to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £98million, Chelsea FC has confirmed.

Lukaku struggled at Chelsea in his first spell and left permanently back in 2014 but his success at Inter Milan, where he helped them win the Italian Serie A, made Chelsea complete a £98million deal to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the Premier League.

Talks with Inter Milan reached a conclusion on Saturday after days of negotiations over the fee and structure of the transfer.

The 28-year-old landed at Biggin Hill airport on Wednesday evening ahead of his move back to Stamford Bridge, having passed the main part of his medical in Milan on Monday.

He then flew to Nice for meetings with his agent Federico Pastorello in Monaco on Tuesday and has now put pen to paper on an emotional return to west London.

Posting in their website and social media handles, Chelsea FC wrote; “Welcome home, @RomeluLukaku9.”

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel had been desperate to bolster his attacking options on the eve of the new season as the German coach eyes a shot at the Premier League title in 2021-22.

The deal to bring him back to Chelssa sees Manchester United – where Lukaku played for two years before heading to Serie A to join Inter – receive £3.8m as a sell-on clause.

The Blues kick their season off with a clash against London rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Lukau netted 87 goals in 166 matches for Everton, 42 goals in 96 games for Manchester United and 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter.

“I’m happy and blessed to be back at this wonderful club,” Lukaku told the club’s website. “It’s been a long journey for me: I came here as a kid who had a lot to learn, now I’m coming back with a lot of experience and more mature.

“The relationship I have with this club means so much to me, as you know. I have supported Chelsea as a kid and now to be back and try to help them win more titles is an amazing feeling.

“The way the club is going fits my ambitions perfectly at 28 and just coming off winning Serie A. I think this opportunity comes at the right time and hopefully we can have a lot of success together.

“Since I left Chelsea, it’s been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs, but these experiences made me strong and the challenge is to try to help the team win some more trophies. I can’t wait to get started and to help the club achieve more success.”

Abuja court orders Shell to pay N45.9B to Ogoni People within 21 days

Shell Petroleum Company has been ordered by an Abuja federal high court to pay the sum of N45.9 billion to the people of Ogoni in Rivers State.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed who awarded the sum against the company for oil spillage in Ogoniland, stated that the money must be paid within 21 days.

Mohammed also confirmed that  A.O Ejelamo, lawyer to Shell said the company has resolved to pay the monetary compensation awarded in 2010 following a lawsuit instituted by ten representatives of Ogoni people in 2001.

Though Justice Ibrahim Buba of the then Port-Harcourt division of the federal high court awarded N17 billion as compensation to Ogoni people in June 2010 and equally granted the Ogoni chiefs a 25-percent interest charge on the principal sum of about N17 billion, SPDC appealed against the judgment up to the supreme court and lost.

After the company approached the apex court seeking a review of the judgment debt in 2020, a five-member panel led by Justice Olabode Rhodes- Vivour, dismissed its application in November 2020 on grounds of lacking merit.

While lead counsel to the Ogoni communities Lucius Nwosu noted that the judgement sum, with the accrued interests stood at about N182 billion, Ejelamo at the resumed court session on Wednesday August 11, sought the court’s permission to pay the debt through the chief registrar of the court in a bank account to be opened for the purpose.

It was eventually agreed that the amount is to be paid to the aggrieved people through their lawyer, as the communities waived the interest on the principal amount as concession agreed upon during reconciliation.

Alert! Bloody hackers steal $600M, the biggest cryptocurrency theft in history

Hackers have stolen some $600m (£433m) in what appears to be one the largest cryptocurrency heists ever.

Blockchain site Poly Network said hackers had exploited a vulnerability in its system and taken thousands of digital tokens such as Ether.

The Poly Network blockchain site allows users to move tokens linked to one of these ledgers to a different network, making them work together.

“The amount of money you have hacked is one of the biggest in defi [decentralised finance] history,” the company noted in a letter addressed to the hacker that was posted on Twitter.

“Law enforcement in any country will regard this as a major economic crime and you will be pursued. The money you stole are from tens of thousands of crypto community members, hence the people,” Poly Network said in the letter.

Changpeng Zhao, chief executive of Binance, tweeted that his firm was aware of the hack, and was “co-ordinating with all our security partners to proactively help”.

Hours after the hack, the attacker started returning the funds.

Roughly $260 million worth of cryptocurrency has been returned to Poly Network in a range of coins, according to separate analyses by blockchain forensics company Chainalysis and crypto tracking firm Elliptic.

A person claiming to have perpetrated the hack said they did it “for fun” and wanted to “expose the vulnerability” before others could exploit it, according to digital messages shared by Elliptic and Chainalysis.

It was “always the plan” to return the tokens, the purported hacker wrote, adding: “I am not very interested in money.”

They started sending back small transfers totalling a few dollars to the online wallets controlled by Poly – but then began making much larger deposits, totalling hundreds of millions.

In scale, the hack is on par with huge recent breaches at exchanges such as Coincheck and Mt Gox.

North Korea warns the US and South Korea as they begin War Games Training

North Korea has denounced South Korea over its joint military exercises with the United States, which are due to begin this week, warning that such actions risked provoking “a serious security crisis.”

The warning comes as the US and South Korea began their preliminary war training games on Tuesday, August 10, with official computer-simulated drills taking place between August 16 and 26, according to local media.

It also comes after Pyongyang stopped responding to a hotline set up between the two Koreas, less than a month after communication was restored following an agreement with Seoul in late July.

Usually the two countries will check in with each other over the hotlines twice a day to ensure smooth relations between the two nations, but South Korea’s Unification and Defense ministries said Pyongyang did not pick up the phone on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

“They must be made to clearly understand how dearly they have to pay for answering our good faith with hostile acts after letting go the opportunity for improved inter-Korean relations,” Kim Yong Chol said in the statement, released on state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Wednesday, August 11.

Kim is North Korea’s former spymaster. He also served as former US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo’s counterpart during talks with Washington in 2019.

He said authorities in Seoul were “defying the opportunity” to improve relations on the Korean Peninsula by conducting “frantic military exercises regarding our state as the enemy.”

Reacting to the war games between the US and South Korea, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said he had no specific response to the North Korean statements but emphasized the drills were “purely defensive” in nature.

Price said the US “harbors no hostile intent” toward North Korea but remained committed to the security of South Korea.

Wednesday’s warning from North Korea comes after Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korea leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday warned that the US and South Korea would “face a more serious security threat” for ignoring repeated warnings against their joint military drills.

She said peace on the Korean Peninsula would never be achieved unless “war equipment deployed by the US in South Korea” is removed.

Lukaku passed the main part of his medical in Milan on Monday before flying to Nice for meetings with his agent Federico Pastorello in Monaco on Tuesday.

As reported by Sky Sports, the paperwork is now with club lawyers and once everything is agreed, Lukaku is expected to sign a five-year contract worth £200,000 a week.

After moving to Everton on a permanent deal, he later joined Manchester United and then Inter Milan in 2019.

Lukaku scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for the Serie A side and led them to the league title last season.

UK Prince Andrew to face second sex abuse lawsuit as Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-PA is set to sue him for allegedly ‘groping her breasts’ 22 years ago

UK Royal, Prince Andrew could face another US lawsuit from one of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims who accused the royal of groping her breasts in a sickening attack involving an image puppet of himself gifted to him by Ghislaine Maxwell.

Johanna Sjoberg, a former PA to Epstein accused the Duke of York of sexually assaulting her when she was 21 years old and working for Epstein.

The incident allegedly took place in front of Virginia Roberts, now known as Virginia Giuffre, who on Tuesday August 10, launched a bombshell legal action accusing Andrew of raping her.

The lawsuit by Giuffre claims that she was ‘loaned’ to the British royal and forced to have sex with Andrew three times on the orders of Epstein, fearing she would be killed if she disobeyed.

Ms Sjoberg, now 43, had previously been unable to sue because of the amount of time since the alleged attack. But a pending US law change could now allow her to bring her allegations to court.

On Wednesday, August 11, Prince Andrew arrived in Balmoral with his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, for a holiday with the Queen just 24 hours after the bombshell lawsuit .

Johanna is the second Epstein victim to claim that Andrew had attacked her while on his knee at the billionaire’s New York home.

Ms Sjoberg has accused the duke of groping her by taking a Spitting Image puppet of himself and placing its hand on her breast after she was flown to the US by Epstein to ‘entertain’ the prince around 2001.

She also described Andrew touching her breasts while the puppet was used to grope Virginia Roberts.

She said that she was recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell in 2001, when she was a student at Palm Beach Atlantic College.

Sjoberg was under the impression she was being hired as a personal assistant, but she soon realized her job was to provide ‘sexual massages’ to Epstein, who she has said told her that he needed to have ‘three orgasms a day.’

She alleges she was ‘punished’ when Epstein failed to orgasm as a result of one of her massages, which Maxwell allegedly told her were necessary because ‘she [Maxwell] would not be able to please him as much as he needed and that is why there were other girls around’.

The Duke of York has always denied all charges made by Virginia Roberts saying he doesn’t know her and a viral photo of him holding her waist is fake.

Roberts alleged she was sexually abused by Andrew when she was 17 and that he knew she was the teenage victim of sex trafficking.

Miss Roberts claims she was forced to have sex with him and was ‘lent out for sexual purposes’ by paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew, 61, is yet to make any public comment about the lawsuit since it came out

Greedy Husband kills wife and daughter months after she won $2M lottery

A woman who won more than $2 million in the California lottery less than a year ago was allegedly killed by her new husband, who also fatally shot her 1-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself.

Tiffani Hill, her daughter, Leanne, and husband, John Donato, were all found suffering from gunshot wounds to the head in their home in Calera, Oklahoma, on July 30, local outlet KXII said.

The little girl was still alive when authorities arrived but she died after being airlifted to a Texas hospital. Hill and Donato were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Hill, 31, was a victim of domestic violence. She was living in California in November 2020 when she won $2 million from a scratch off ticket.

A few months later, she married Donato, 42, and the family moved to Oklahoma in 2021. On July 31, 2021, a tragedy occurred.

Police said it was a double murder-suicide. Police say Donato, 42, fatally shot Hill and their daughter, 23-month-old daughter, Leanne Donato, before turning the gun on himself at their new home in Calera, Oklahoma.

Hill’s three older children, ages 7, 9 and 11, were in the home when the murder-suicide occurred but they were unharmed.

The family lawyer said the $2 million lottery win was a “source of conflict” in John Donato and Tiffani Hill’s brief marriage.

“Could that have sparked that argument? We’ll never have any way of knowing,” asked Theresa McGehee, an attorney who’s represented the Hill family in the past. “But I do know there were times it caused conflict between them.”

The FBI is leading the investigation into the double murder-suicide because it took place on tribal land. Hill was a registered member of the Choctaw Nation, according to SFgate.

Hill’s sister, Jamie Kern, created a GoFundMe page to help bring the three surviving children back home to California.

Hill’s lottery winnings will be placed in a trust for the surviving children.

Donald Trump must give access to two years of tax records – federal judge rules

A federal judge has ruled that former US President Donald Trump’s accountants must turn over two years’ worth of his tax and financial records to a House committee investigating whether Trump and his businesses profited from his service in the White House.

The Democratic lawmakers investigating Trump will be able to see his personal financial records from 2017 and 2018, US District Court Judge Amit Mehta of Washington ruled on Wednesday, August 11.

House Democrats will also have access to documents relating to Trump’s lease of a building near the White House, according to the Washington Post. D

Democrats had claimed they needed Trump’s financial records from 2011 to 2018 in order to pen legislation fixing “glaring weaknesses in current ethics legislation” that came out during the 45th president’s tenure.

Judge Mehta approved a House Oversight and Reform Committee subpoena for Trump’s records covering 2017 and 2018, but turned down most of the panel’s request for similar information dating back to 2011.

Mehta, an appointee of Barack Obama, ruled that the congressional inquiry was too intrusive but could proceed in a more limited fashion, so he narrowed the House subpoena for Trump’s financial records to only 2017 and 2018.

Mehta wrote: “Such limited legislative need cannot justify the degree to which the Maloney Subpoena imposes on the separation of powers, even in the case of a former President.

“The more Congress can invade the personal sphere of a former President, the greater the leverage Congress would have on a sitting President.”

A Trump aide told Politico that the ex-president will fight to keep his tax records under wraps by appealing Mehta’s decision.

Democratic Rep Carolyn Maloney, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, said on Wednesday, August 11, that obtaining Trump’s financial documents will help lawmakers with oversight of the executive branch.

“While it is disappointing that the Court, despite finding that the entire subpoena served valid legislative purposes, narrowed the subpoena in some respects, the Committee is actively considering next steps,” Maloney added, according to The Hill.

Joel Kinnaman, US Actor, under investigation for Rape

Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman, 41, is currently being investigated for rape in Sweden

The public prosecutor announced on Wednesday, August 11, they were investigating the allegation against Kinnaman, according to TMZ.

But the Swedish actor’s legal team told The Post the alleged victim, a Swedish model, only stepped forward with the accusation after Kinnaman had gone to the police himself to get a restraining order.

Kinnaman claimed in a recent social media thread that he was being extorted by model Gabriella Magnusson, who goes by the name Bella Davis.

On Friday August 6, Kinnaman filed an extortion complaint against her in Sweden and got a restraining order against her in Los Angeles, his lawyer Patricia Glaser told The Post.

“It appears that after learning of the restraining order, she filed her complaint,” Ms Glaser said.

“The court papers that Mr. Kinnaman filed stated, among other things, that Ms. Davis threatened to publicise false information about Mr. Kinnaman – including that he had sex with her against her will – unless he capitulated to her monetary and other demands, which included Hollywood introductions, a work visa sponsorship, a blue verification checkmark on Instagram, and more.”

The actor will be co-operating with police “to clear his name,” Ms Glaser added.

A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office told E! News on Wednesday that the probe had just started.

“The prosecutor got the case today and has hardly been able to look at it,” the spokesman said.

After the temporary restraining order, Davis told E! News that she never threatened Kinnaman or asked him for money. The actor “should have an Oscar for how he’s writing and acting,” she said, according to the outlet.

The Swedish actor, had taken to Instagram last Friday saying the model became obsessive after a consensual sexual relationship and was trying to extort him for money and things like a Sports Illustrated photo shoot.

Swedish actor who first gained recognition for his roles in the Swedish film Easy Money and the Johan Falk crime series.

Taliban continue to capture Afghan more cities and may soon attack their capital Kabul (photos & graphic video)

The Taliban has captured the city of Ghazni, just 80 miles south of Kabul, meaning the Islamist insurgents now control the main Afghan highways north and south of the city as they close in  on the government following US troops withdrawal.

The capture which happened on Thursday morning, August 12, comes as Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand, and Kandahar appear on the verge of falling to the jihadists .

The Taliban detonated huge IEDs at Lashkar Gah police headquarters while Kandahar prison with hundreds of inmates was attacked- with Taliban fighters released to rejoin the ranks .

Taliban fighters could be seen filming themselves strolling through the city centre on Thursday morning. ‘Large numbers of soldiers were killed and dozens more surrendered,’ a Taliban spokesman said.

The Taliban is now believed to control two thirds of the country, with the government in retreat in almost every region except Kabul – which is one of the only cities not yet under direct attack.

Meanwhile Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani is trying to organize a counteroffensive relying on his country’s special forces, the militias of warlords and American airpower.

The U.S. and NATO will officially complete its total withdrawal of troops from the war torn country at the end of the month.

The latest U.S. military intelligence assessment is that Kabul (which holds the US Embassy and several diplomatic offices) could come under insurgent pressure within 30 days and that if current trends hold, the Taliban could gain full control of the country within a couple of months.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says the ban on microblogging site, Twitter, will be lifted soon.

Mohammed disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the virtual Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the First Lady’s Conference room, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to Lai Mohammed, the engagements with the team from Twitter have been productive, and that they have agreed to open an office in Nigeria.

“The end for amicable resolution is very much in sight. We appreciate the patience of Nigerians. I want to assure you that we have made very tremendous progress. We have met with Twitter both physically and in writing. We are actually almost there.

India Police arrest two peddlers with heroin worth N386m and a Nigerian supplier (video)

In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police have busted a drug racket and arrested two Punjab-based peddlers and one Nigerian supplier with 1.122 kg of heroin worth over Rs 7 crore (N386m) in the international black market.

According to the police, a tip-off was received about the movement of drug peddlers in the area of Mohan Garden. Based on that, a trap was laid near Poswal Chowk on Tuesday, August 10.

“A trap was laid near Poswal Chowk, Mohan Garden at around 10 AM. Two persons who were moving around suspiciously tried to flee when signalled to stop. But both the accused were overpowered by the raiding party,” said Rajesh Maurya, Station house officer (SHO), Mohan garden.

Both the accused are identified as 27 years old Gursewak Singh and Amritpal Singh and police recovered 350 grams and 650 grams of heroin from their possession.

During the investigation, both the accused revealed that “they had come from Punjab to receive the consignment from a Nigerian.

The team worked relentlessly to trace and identify the source and finally laid hands on the 36-year-old Nigerian supplier Anyigide Frankline from whose possession 472 gms more heroin was recovered.

Thus a total haul of 1.122 Kg was affected from the three accused, which are worth more than Rs 7 crores in the international market.

“The Nigerian could not produce any passport or visa. Therefore section 14A Foreigner’s Act has also been invoked in this case,” SHO added.Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Madagascar President dissolves Government, Citing ‘failures in governance’

Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina has sacked all his ministers, his office said, days after he criticized some of their performances as below par.

Rajoelina’s office gave no reason for the dismissals in a statement issued late on Wednesday, August 11.

On Sunday, Rajoelina said the performance of some ministers was unsatisfactory.

“Like in a football team, you have to change when there are failures in government,” he said in comments broadcast on national television.

“There will be a change and this concerns those who do not carry out the work entrusted to them.”

This also comes days after a senior prosecutor said Madagascar had arrested 21 more suspects, including 12 military personnel, in connection with a plot to kill Rajoelina and topple the government.

Six people, one of them a French citizen, were arrested last month on suspicion of involvement in the plot, after what officials said was a months-long investigation in the Indian Ocean island.

Rajoelina first took power in a March 2009 coup, unseating Marc Ravalomanana. He remained in control at the head of a transitional government until 2014.

In the 2019 elections, Ravalomanana challenged Rajoelina, lost, and said the vote was fraudulent.

Nigerian Youtuber who criticised Apostle Suleman’s ‘Money miracle’, arrested and detained by the Police

Days after Apostle Johnson Suleman told those criticizing and insulting him via online channels to pay him for that, a Youtuber identified as Israel Balogun has reportedly been detained by the Police Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Abuja over allegations of criminal defamation and cyber stalking of the General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries International.

Punch reported that the 38-year-old who posted a video on his Youtube channel where he showed clips of Suleman declaring to his congregation that angels would deposit money into their bank accounts,  was interrogated for about four hours and later detained after being given stringent bail conditions.

It was gathered that the clips were from ministrations of the cleric in Atlanta, United States, and Auchi, Edo State, where worshippers showed their phones to testify to receiving credit alerts in their bank accounts.

Balogun received mixed reactions after he described the claims as false and slammed Suleiman.

He further told the publication that he later got a threat call from one Obi-West over the video and a letter from Suleman’s lawyer on Monday, August 2, 2021, demanding a public apology within seven days.

Balogun said;

“He said he is the eyes of Apostle Suleman on social media and said I should expect to hear from them. He said I will be missing and he will make sure I get punished by officers from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters.

“He said killing me is nothing to them. I recorded the whole conversation and used it in recording another video where I called people to rescue me because my life was in danger.

“I was still consulting with my lawyer when somebody called to notify me that some guys from Abuja were in Lagos to pick me up to Abuja. My wife, daughter and I immediately abandoned our home and went into hiding.”

The YouTuber also claimed that he later received an invitation from the Special Enquiry Bureau, FCIID, Abuja, signed by one ACP Yahaya Abubakar, asking him to report at the FCIID on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.

His lawyer, Inibehe Effiong reportedly confirmed on Wednesday August 11 that he had been detained.

Effiong said;

“The formal interrogation was for about four hours, including the time they used in taking his statements. Part of his bail conditions was to provide two sureties with landed property and certificate of ownership in Abuja, and a Level 14 civil servant with either a letter of last employment or letter of introduction.

“We have somebody with CofO, and presented a Level 13 civil servant, which they accepted. But they insisted that the person should bring a letter of introduction, whereas the person has a letter of last promotion. Even though we said we will bring the originals tomorrow, they rejected it and put Balogun in the cell.

“The conditions are difficult and unnecessary given the nature of the offence. There is no reason why the police should get involved as he (Suleman) should have gone to court to file legal action if he felt he had been defamed.”

A spokesperson for the FCIID, Abuja, Funmi Eguaoje however insisted that the bail conditions were normal. She said;

“If you bring a surety that is a civil servant, there should be verification from the office of the civil servant. There should be a letter of introduction from his boss to show that he is a staff member. They should bring it tomorrow (Thursday) and they will release him.”

Suleman’s counsel, Samuel Amune on his own part maintained that he only wrote Balogun to recant his statements and apologize for using derogatory remarks. He also stated that he doesn’t know anything about the petition against Balogun.

Human-eating teacher who murdered and ate ‘boyfriend’ for sexual satisfaction goes on trial in Germany

A 41-year-old teacher accused of killing another man and eating the victim’s body to satisfy cannibalistic sexual desires, has gone on trial in Germany’s capital.

Prosecutors say the man on trial met his victim, a 43-year-old mechanic, on an online dating website a few hours before the September killing in 2020, the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported. They said there was no indication the victim had agreed to be killed.

The accused, named Stefan R, sat in silence as the charges were read out. R is accused of killing 43-year-old Stefan T in the hope of consuming parts of the alleged victim’s body and deriving sexual satisfaction from the act.

His lawyers told the court that R did not wish to testify and sought to suspend the trial on the basis that the public prosecutor’s office had not made all the evidence in the case available to the court.

The sitting judge said the court would examine the matter and cancelled Thursday’s planned hearing. The trial will now continue next Tuesday.

The case was first uncovered last November after human bones were found in a park in the north-eastern Pankow district of Berlin.

On closer examination, police investigators identified the remains as belonging to the body of missing Berliner Stefan T.

After searching the victim’s phone, investigators were led to the house of the accused, where they found traces of blood, more remains and a set of suspicious work tools.

According to a reconstruction by investigators, the two men made contact via a dating website last September and met later the same day.

The accused was arrested immediately after the search of his property and has been held in custody since.

Other body parts are said to have been dispersed by the accused across Pankow, some of which were found in the days after his arrest.
The trial at a Berlin state court, which is expected to last until mid-October, is not the first of its kind in Germany.

In 2006, a German court convicted Armin Meiwes of murder and disturbing the peace for killing and eating a man he had met online. Meiwes is serving a life sentence.

Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, threaten to withhold salaries of schools that force their pupils to wear masks

Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis has threatened to withhold salaries from school leaders who enact or enforce mask mandates on their pupils.

DeSanctis, a Republican, close friend to Donald Trump and heavy critic of Covid-19 restrictions, earlier issued an order against such policies in schools, but some districts in Florida have pushed back, saying their pupils must still mask up.

The ensuing drama comes as schools begin their new academic year with school authorities scared that the Delta variant will affect younger groups.

Scientifically though, there is no evidence the Delta variant is more severe in children. Just 1% of US children infected with coronavirus end up in hospital and 0.01% die, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Covid-19: Florida governor threatens to withhold salaries of schools that mandate their pupils to wear masks

In a statement on Tuesday, August 10, DeSanctis said the state board of education “could move to withhold the salary of the district superintendent or school board members” if they issue rules requiring children to wear face masks. Teachers or other school staff would not be affected.

In Mr DeSantis’ previous order in July, he said forcing masks on students would encroach on parents’ rights.

The same day, one of Florida’s largest government-run school districts announced that students must wear masks for the beginning of the school year, unless they have a excuse from a doctor or psychologist.

“Heaven forbid we lost a child to this virus, I can’t just simply blame the governor of the state of Florida – I just can’t,” said Leon County Superintendent Rocky Hanna during a live-streamed news conference .

Public health experts say masks are needed to prevent the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant – especially as the vaccines are not yet approved for children under the age of 12.

A first case of Marburg virus disease have been confirmed by Health authorities in Guinea, in the southern Gueckedou prefecture.

This is the first time Marburg, a highly infectious disease that causes haemorrhagic fever and in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola has been identified in the country and in West Africa.

This is coming less than two months after Guinea declared an end to an Ebola outbreak that erupted earlier this year.

It was gathered that the patient had sought treatment at a local clinic in Koundou area of Gueckedou, where a medical investigation team had been dispatched to probe his worsening symptoms.

Samples taken from a now-deceased patient and tested by a field laboratory in Gueckedou as well as Guinea’s national haemorrhagic fever laboratory, turned out positive for the Marburg virus. Further analysis by the Institut Pasteur in Senegal confirmed the result.

Dr Matshidiso Moeti, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa said;

“We applaud the alertness and the quick investigative action by Guinea’s health workers. The potential for the Marburg virus to spread far and wide means we need to stop it in its tracks.

“We are working with the health authorities to implement a swift response that builds on Guinea’s past experience and expertise in managing Ebola, which is transmitted in a similar way.”

Efforts are underway to find the people who may have been in contact with the patient. As the disease is appearing for the first time in the country, health authorities are launching public education and community mobilization to raise awareness and galvanize support to help curb widespread infection.

According to WHO, Marburg virus is transmitted to people from fruit bats, and it spreads among humans through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people, surfaces and materials. Illness begins with high fever, severe headache and general discomfort.

Infected patients also develop severe haemorrhagic signs within seven days. Case fatality rates have varied from 24 percent to 88 percent in past outbreaks, depending on virus strain and case management.

42 People Confirmed Dead as Wildfire Ravages through Algeria (photos)

42 people including 25 members of the military mobilised to help put out raging blaze, were killed in forest fires in  Algeria on Tuesday, August 10.

Dozens of separate fires have raged through forest areas across northern Algeria since Monday night and the country’s Interior Minister Kamel Beldjoud accused arsonists of igniting the flames, without providing more details on the allegations.

Residents of the Tizi Ouzou region in Kabylie used tree branches to try to smother burning patches of forest or hurled water from plastic containers in a desperate effort to douse the fire.

Soldiers were killed in different areas, some while trying to extinguish the flames and others after they were cut off by the spreading fire, Kabylie residents said. The Defense Ministry said more soldiers had been badly injured with burns.

Several houses were burnt as families were escaping to hotels, youth hostels and university residences, witnesses said, adding that a dense smoke hampered the visibility of fire crews.

“Only criminal hands can be behind the simultaneous outbreak of about 50 fires across several localities,” he said.

“We had a horror night. My house is completely burnt,” said Mohamed Kaci, who had fled with his family from the village of Azazga to a hotel.

Speaking on state television on Tuesday night, Prime Minister Ayman Benabderrahmane said the death toll had risen to 42, including 25 members of the military. The government was in “advanced talks with (foreign) partners to hire planes and help speed up the process of extinguishing fires,” he added.

Firefighters and the army were still trying to contain the blazes, and Beldjoud said the priority was to avoid more victims. He vowed to compensate those affected.

According to reports, smaller fires have ravaged forests in at least 16 provinces of the North African country since Monday night.

Actress Sunni Welles, One of the Accusers of Bill Cosby, dies at 72

Sunni Welles, an American actress, and singer who was one of the many women to accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault, has died. She was 72.

Welles’ son, Shaun O’Banion, shared the news on Twitter on Monday, writing, “It is with profound sadness that I announce that my mother, Sunni Kay Welles, passed away today at the age of 72.”

“If you have a moment, give a listen and think of her. She was an extraordinary woman,” O’Banion continued, sharing a link to a recording of Welles singing “Rio de Janeiro Blues” with her jazz band, Shiver.

Welles died on Monday August 9, at a hospice care center in Downey, California, after a battle with lung cancer, O’Banion confirmed in a statement to ET.

“My mother was a fighter, literally from the day she was born. My grandmother would tell me my mom ‘fit in the palm of her hand,’ and ‘looked like a baby bird.’ Throughout her life and career, she was also like lightning in a bottle and always championed the work and efforts of others… But what I think she would be most proud of, and certainly what I am most proud of is what I think will be her legacy: Her voice. Not her singing voice, although that was stellar, too…,” O’Banion added in a separate statement. “But her voice in speaking out publicly against the man who violated her and the fact that she and her sister survivors helped to change laws and, I hope, permanently alter the response to survivors of sexual assault. She was extraordinary in every way and I will miss her every day of my life.” he said

Welles’ acting career began when she was 10, with roles in popular TV shows including Leave It to Beaver and My Three Sons.

She later became an aspiring singer and moved to Las Vegas in 1979 to perform with the Folies Bergère musical variety show. She continued acting sporadically before turning her focus on being a jazz soloist with her band, which toured California in the 1990s.

In 2015, Welles was one of over 50 women to come forward with accusations of sexual assault against Cosby.

According to a statement released by Gloria Allred, who was representing Welles at the time, Welles claimed she was 17 years old when she went out to dinner with the comedian, after being introduced to him by her mom, who was a story editor at Paramount studios.

Welles claimed she went out with Cosby twice, and both times felt like she’d been drugged after drinking a Coke during their dinners. She alleged that on both occasions she blacked out remembered “waking up naked in a bed alone in a sparsely furnished apartment” all alone, and “felt as if I had had sex.”

Cosby was released from prison in June, after serving three years behind bars after being convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004. His was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, after the court found that an agreement Cosby had with a previous prosecutor prevented him from being charged in the case in the first place, according to documents obtained by ET at the time.

Welles is survived by her son, O’Banion, his partner Petra Hejduková and their son Indiana, as well as her brother Larry Rihl and step-siblings Vivian Harris, Cindy Kashdin, Gene Rihl, Frank Rihl, and Alan Rihl.

Indian Man Survives after 20ft Pole Pierces through his Head in Construction Site

A man survived after a 20ft metal pole pierced his brain when he fell from a building site.

The 24-year-old was working on the site in Ghaziabad, New Delhi, India, on July 31 when he stopped and looked up. Then a metal rod came hurtling down from the 20th floor towards him, plunging through his brain and out the back of his skull.

The unnamed man was rushed to Flores Hospital where half his skull had to be opened so the doctor could free the rod from his brain during four hours of surgery by senior neurosurgeon, Dr Abhinav Gupta.

Man survives after 20ft pole plunges through his head in construction accident

Thankfully, there has been no additional damage to his brain but the left side of his body has been left paralysed.

Dr Gupta removed parts of the 24-year-old’s skull and placed them under the sub-cutaneous pouch of his abdomen – a practice used to keep the skull fragment viable while allowing the brain to swell and easing blood flow to the organ.

The neurosurgeon said the construction worker, from Jharkhand, would need further surgery in two months’ time to put the skull fragment back in place.

“We are monitoring the patient closely and the outcome looks positive”, Dr Gupta told the Times of India.

They said the 24-year-old was now breathing unaided and was able to open his eyes – but added they were not sure how much he understood.

“He has a long way to go before he recovers from the injury fully”, Dr Gupta said, adding the patient would need physiotherapy and rehab in the future.

TikTok Becomes the most downloaded App of 2020

TikTok sues U.S government over ban

TikTok was the world’s most downloaded app in 2020 as it took the top spot from Facebook Messenger, according to a new report by digital analytics company App Annie.

The Chinese owned video-sharing platform is the only app not owned by Facebook to make the global top five of downloads of 2020

In China, TikTok’s owner ByteDance also holds the top spot with the Chinese language video app Douyin.

Facebook-owned apps have held the top spot in downloads since the survey started in 2018.

Apps owned by Mark Zuckerberg make up the top five – WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger .

Last year, former President Donald Trump issued an executive order to ban new downloads of TikTok app in the US claiming that TikTok posed a national security risk as the Chinese government had access to its user data, allegations the company has denied.

Andrew Cuomo, New York Governor, Resigns as Sexual Assault Allegations Increases

New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday afternoon, August 10 announced he will resign from office following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.

Cuomo’s decision to step down comes a week after the New York attorney general’s office released the findings of an independent investigation into sexual harassment allegations. The report found that Cuomo allegedly sexually harassed 11 women.

Cuomo had denied all allegations against him claiming he is innocent but in recent weeks he has faced pressure from the Democratic party leadership and president Joe Biden to resign.

The New York  House of Reps were planning to begin impeachment proceedings against him this week.

Cuomo making the announcement on Tuesday, says the resignation will be effective in 14 days. He announced that New York Lt Governor Kathy Hochul will replace him.

‘The best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to governing,’ Cuomo said in his address around noon. ‘And therefore that’s what I will do, because I work for you and doing the right thing is doing the right thing for you. Because as we say, its not about me, it’s about we.’

Cuomo said that New York Lt Governor Kathy Hochul is ‘smart and confident’.

‘This transition must be seamless,’ Cuomo said. ‘We have a lot going on. I’m very worried about the Delta variant, so should you be, but she can come up to speed quickly.’

In a press briefing earlier on Tuesday, Cuomo’s lawyer Rita Glavin said that the New York attorney general’s report ‘contains errors’.

Glavin criticized the attorney general office’s investigators and said, “This was not about an independent review of the allegations and the circumstances surrounding them’.

Heavy Divorce! Bill Gates transferred another $2 Billion Worth of stock to ex-wife Melinda, totaling $6billion

Despite their divorce, Bill Gates seems to be keeping to the promise he made on Wednesday, August 4, when he told CNN that he and Melinda French Gates would try to keep working together on their foundation after their divorce.

Bill Gates transferred more than $2 billion in stock to Melinda French Gates on Thursday, August 5, according to Bloomberg.

This takes total transfers from Bill Gates to Melinda French Gates since they announced their divorce in May to about $6 billion.

Cascade Investment, Gates’ investment vehicle, transferred 3.3 million shares, collectively worth $387 million, of the automotive retailer AutoNation to French Gates, an SEC filing showed, according to Bloomberg.

Bill Gates also transferred 2.8 million shares worth a total of $1 billion of the manufacturer Deere & Co. to Melinda French Gates through Cascade Investment, per an SEC filing cited by Bloomberg.

The same day, Cascade Investment transferred 9.5 million shares, valued at more than $1 billion total, of Canadian National Railway to Melinda French Gates.

Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates officially divorced last week.

In May, four days after they announced their intention to divorce, Bill Gates transferred $3 billion worth of stock from Cascade Investment to French Gates, including 2.9 million shares of AutoNation, 14.1 million shares of Canadian National Railway, and 293.5 million shares of the media company Grupo Televisa.

Two weeks later, Gates conveyed $850 million worth of Deere & Co. shares to Melinda French Gates, according to an SEC filing – this was 7% of Gates’ stake in the company.

Bill and Melinda Gates’ collective net worth is about $152 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Barcelona won’t be able to retire Lionel Messi’s iconic No.10 shirt because of LaLiga rules

Barcelona won’t be able to retire Lionel Messi’s iconic No.10 shirt after his emotional farewell because of LaLiga rules.

Spanish FA rules state LaLiga teams must assign their 25-man squads the numbers 1 to 25 for each league campaign.

Goalkeepers either wear 1, 13, or 25 while on the rare occasion of reserve players brought into the first team, they are able to take on from 26 to 50. But should Barcelona retire Messi’s No10, they would sacrifice a senior place in their squad for the 2021-22 season.

According to Mail Online, this is because the first-team squads must reflect the numbers 1 to 25 when registered with the Spanish footballing body.

The report also said  Barca could still press ahead with retiring the shirt – just as their city rivals Espanyol did with the No21, following the tragic death of defender Daniel Jarque during pre-season in 2009.  But this would leave an open spot which Barca cannot afford to do.

Barcelona confirmed last Thursday, August 5, that Messi would not sign a new contract with the Spanish club amid financial concerns “and structural obstacles” which prevented Messi from renewing.

Messi, who won the Ballon d’Or six times, is Barcelona’s record goalscorer with 672 goals in 778 appearances.

The Argentina international won 35 major titles at club level since making his debut in 2003 – 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League crowns, seven Copa del Rey trophies, three Club World Cups, three European Super Cups and eight Spanish Super Cups.

A Family all Die Within a Week after Refusing to take COVID-19 Vaccine

A heartbroken son has revealed how his mother, father, and brother all died of Covid within the space of a week, after refusing to get the coronavirus vaccine.

Francis Goncalves’ brother Shaul, 40, father, Basil, 73, and mother, Charmagne, 65, all died in hospital within two weeks of contracting coronavirus.

The 43-year-old, who lives in Cardiff, says his three relatives who were based in Portugal, refused the Covid jab after falling victim to ‘anti-vaccination propaganda’ despite his parents living with underlying health conditions.

Now Francis, who believes the virus spread through his family during a meal, is pleading with others to avoid ‘falling into the trap’ of Covid conspiracies.

Father, mother, and son all die within a week after refusing COVID-19 vaccine

He said: ‘They (my family) got caught up in a lot of the anti-vaccination propaganda that’s going around. It preys on people who are afraid and they fall into the trap.

‘The message I want to get out is why would the government want to hurt you by giving you a vaccine? What is the purpose behind it? I’ve spoken to so many people who are terrified of the vaccine and it costs lives.’

He also paid tribute to his family, describing his mother as the ‘mother hen’ who would ‘do anything for us’, and his father as a man ‘who gave everything’.

And speaking about his brother, he said: ‘ He always looked out for the best interests of people around him and he wanted to teach people. He spend time helping people and wouldn’t ask for anything in return.

A young woman was mauled to death by a tiger in a safari park enclosure after her colleagues failed to warn her that the cage door was open.

Catalina Torres Ibarra, 21, was killed in the park in Chile, South America on Friday, August 6.

Catalina, who had been working at the enclosure for over two years, was reportedly sent to perform cleaning duties but was attacked in the process. She died “on the spot” after suffering neck wounds in the fatal attack in Rancagua.

Her colleague Leonardo Maluenda, claims she was not told the tiger’s cage door was open.

Leonardo told the press: “The most logical thing is that they tell you to be careful if you go to clean up there because the tiger is loose, but they did not warn her.”

Colleagues are now playing the blame game as an internal investigation into the incident begins.

The park’s finance manager, Antonio Rojas, claimed that a group of workers had deliberately unlocked the tigers’ cage against protocol.

However, the workers in question have vehemently denied the allegations, saying that the cage was already open and that they did not open it themselves.

The safari park continues to remain closed as police investigate claims of possible negligence.

Jeffrey Epstein Accuser Virginia Giuffre Files Lawsuit Against Prince Andrew for Rape

Jeffrey Epstein’s accuser, Virginia Roberts Giuffre has filed a lawsuit in New York alleging that UK Royalty, Prince Andrew sexually abused her when she was 17 years old.

The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court on Monday, August 9 which happens to be Giuffre’s 38th birthday, claims that she was forced to have sex with the Duke of York three times as ordered by the late Epstein.

Giuffre alleges that convicted and now dead pedophile, Epstein or his alleged madam Ghislaine Maxwell instructed her to have sex with the UK royal.

Prince Andrew has always denied having sex with Giuffre, as well as denied knowing her. He has even suggested that an infamous photo of him with his hand around Giuffre’s waist is fake.

‘Today my attorney filed suit against Prince Andrew for sexual abuse under the Child Victims Act,’ Giuffre said in a statement obtained by People.

“As the suit lays out in detail, I was trafficked to him and sexually abused by him.’

The lawsuit states that in one of the incidents, Giuffre was forced to engage in a sex act with the prince at Maxwell’s home in London.

‘During this encounter, Epstein, Maxwell, and Prince Andrew forced Plaintiff, a child, to have sexual intercourse with Prince Andrew against her will,’ the suit reads.

The suit states that Giuffre and another victim were abused by the prince at Epstein’s mansion in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

‘During this encounter, Maxwell forced Plaintiff, a child, and another victim to sit on Prince Andrew’s lap as Prince Andrew touched her,’ it states.

‘During his visit to New York, Prince Andrew forced Plaintiff to engage in sex acts against her will.’

Giuffre’s lawyer David Boies wrote in the suit that his client ‘feared death or physical injury to herself’ if she did not follow Epstein and Maxwell’s demands.

In her statement, Giuffre said: ‘I am holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me. The powerful and rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions.’

Giuffre said she ‘did not come to this decision lightly’.

‘As a mother and a wife, my family comes first – and I know that this action will subject me to further attacks by Prince Andrew and his surrogates,’ Giuffre stated.

‘But I knew if I did not pursue this action, I would be letting them and victims everywhere down.’

Giuffre is seeking unspecified damages for battery as well as infliction of emotional distress.

Judgment day finally came for two Nigerian fraudsters, Tobilola Ibrahim Bakare and Alimi Seun Sikiru as they lost cash and properties in upscale Lekki axis of Lagos to the Federal Government following their arrest and prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The forfeited assets include the sums of N196, 741, 216.82 and N7, 054, 852.01 in bank accounts; two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz E500 and a Toyota Hilux 2020.

Others are; five bedroom duplex situated at Ibrahim Eleto Street, Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos, four bedroom semi-detached duplex situated at Ologolo, Jakande, Lekki, Lagos and another four bedroom semi-detached duplex in Southern View Estate, Mayor Court, Chevron Alternative Road, Lekki, Lagos.

The two vehicles are valued at N30million while the three duplexes are valued at N230million.

Two Nigerian fraudsters forfeit over N200m, luxury cars and properties valued at N260m to FG

The fraudsters gave up the assets as they could not give satisfactory explanation of the funds and properties linked to them. They confessed to involvement in cybercrime. Bakare, 27, an indigene of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State claimed his forte is Business Email Compromise, and that he had hacked into different companies outside the shores of Nigeria.

The scammers had been successful in their ignoble trade, earning a cumulative sum of $1million USD from victims including three foreign airlines through Business Email Compromise fraud. They laundered the proceeds of crime in acquiring properties including real estate and luxury vehicles.

Their problem began in September 2020, when Operatives of the Commission, in the course of investigating a case of suspicious transactions and money laundering involving one Kehinde Adelakun, a convicted internet fraudster, stumbled on evidence linking Alvine International Resources Ventures, owned by the second defendant, Sikiru.

The transaction that sets off the alarm bell was an inflow of N5million in two tranches from Alvine International Resources Ventures.

Further probing by the investigators, revealed several inflows suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities in two accounts of the second defendant. The balance in both accounts: N196, 741,216.82  and N7, 054,852.01 , were swiftly placed on a Post No Debit, to forestall dissipation of the funds pending the conclusion of investigation and determination of the case.

The second defendant, in his statement to the Commission , admitted that majority of the funds found in his account were from the first defendant, Bakare, who confessed to being into Business Email Compromise, BEC, between 2009 and 2020 and also hacking into the accounts of KLM, Turkish Airlines and British Airways.

The fraudster were subsequently arraigned before Justice O. A Taiwo of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja on five-count amended charge bordering on conspiracy and retaining stolen property, an offence contrary to Sections 411 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

One of the counts reads: “Tobilola Ibrahim Bakare and Alimi Seun Sikiru, sometime in 2020 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to commit felony to wit: retaining cumulative sum of about $1,000.000,00( One Million United States of America Dollars ) property of KLM, Turkish Airways and British Airways.”

Another count reads: “Tobiloba Ibrahim Bakare and Alimi Seun Sikiru, sometime in 2020 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court , with a dishonest intent, retained four -bedroom detached duplex situated at Ologolo Jakande, Lekki, Lagos.”

They pleaded ‘guilty’ to the charges preferred against them.

Delivering judgment, Justice Taiwo noted that the action of the defendants was “responsible for giving Nigeria a bad image globally, whereby the average Nigerian is looked upon as being untrustworthy and fraudulent”. She convicted and sentenced Bakare, to three years imprisonment on counts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, with the option of fine of N3m (Three Million Naira).

The Judge also convicted and sentenced Sikiru, to three years imprisonment on counts 1 and 5 with an option of fine of N1 million (One Million Naira).

Justice Taiwo also held that the five bedroom duplex situated at Ibrahim Eleto Street Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos, four bedroom semi-detached duplex situated at Ologolo , Jakande, Lekki, Lagos and another four bedroom semi-detached duplex in Southern View Estate, Mayor Court, Chevron Alternative Road, Lekki, Lagos recovered from the first defendant be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The Judge further held that the sums of N196, 741, 216.82 recovered from the second defendant’s company, Alvine International Resources Ventures account domiciled in a Bank and N7, 054, 852. 01 recovered from the second defendant’s account domiciled in a Bank be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz E500 and a Toyota Hilux 2020 recovered from the first defendant were also ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.

R&B Singer, R.Kelly Wants Charges for Exposing Sexual Partners to Herpes dropped from Federal Case

Disgraced R&B singer, R Kelly has asked a judge through his lawyers to dismiss charges claiming he knowingly exposed two people to a sexually transmitted disease.

Kelly is facing a wide array of sex trafficking charges in New York and will also be tried in both Illinois and Minnesota for a series of unrelated abuse crimes. Kelly also stands accused of having sexual contact with an underage boy in 2006.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Kelly and his legal team are attempting to throw out STD charges by claiming that herpes is not a recognised sexually transmitted disease. He also denies the charges.

Using the World Health Organisation and New York State Department of Health as a guide, Kelly and his lawyers are arguing that herpes is in fact a virus and not a bacterial venereal disease, so believe the charges should be dropped.

His legal team also argued that charges – including bribing a Chicago clerk to allow Kelly to marry singer Aaliyah even though she was underage – should be dropped because the statute of limitations had passed.

“To allow the government to move forward with those counts would be to allow a clear mischaracterisation and interpretation of the application of the statute, considering the statute clearly does not incorporate herpes,” Kelly’s lawyer, Thomas Farinella, wrote.

Kelly stands accused of running a racketeering enterprise that trafficked women and girls across state lines. He allegedly had sex with numerous minors and made child pornography, prosecutors say. He also forced his victims to call him “Daddy”, and did not allow them to eat or leave rooms without his permission, prosecutors will argue.

Opening statements will begin on 18 August after Kelly fired his original legal team

Pregnant woman gave birth to her son 3 months earlier after being left in a near-fatal coma by covid-19

A pregnant woman gave birth to her son three months earlier than her due date after being left in a near-fatal coma by covid-19.

Kassidy Hazelton, from Arizona, delivered her son Kash on May 31, just a couple of weeks after she contracted Covid-19 after she refused to get a vaccine because she was pregnant.

Initially when the 37-year-old caught the virus, she developed pneumonia, ending up in a coma and forcing doctors to deliver her baby via an emergency c-section.Speaking to Fox News, Kassidy said she was unsure about getting the jabs because of possible side effects knowing fully well she was pregnant at the time.

She said: ‘Once my temperature started to get out of control, that’s when I started to get worried. I was scared.’

‘Vaccines were just released and I did not feel comfortable yet’, she said on a fundraising page set up to help with medical costs.

‘Within five months of pregnancy I contracted it and became very ill.

‘I had to be sedated and put in induced a coma while pregnant.’

With doctors scared she won’t make it, they decided to deliver her baby at just 28 weeks, almost three months early, by c-section.

‘They kept the baby in there as long as they could, but I wasn’t getting better and in order for me to survive or even him they had to take him out’, Kassidy said.

Kash weighed just under 1kg when he was born and was immediately rushed to a neonatal intensive care unit, where he will remain until at least his due date of August 20.

Kassidy added: ‘I was still in a coma when he was born.

‘This has been tremendously hard on me and our family.’

She survived and Kassidy came back from the coma. But her battle with Covid meant she was unable to meet her son until weeks after his birth.

Kash is still being closely monitored due to his premature birth and the pressure on his lungs

In total Kassidy remained in hospital for seven weeks and while she is ‘getting better every day’, is still suffering from breathlessness, along with PTSD and anxiety.

‘I can’t breathe at times and I’m concerned things will get harder’, she said.

?’Covid has wrecked my first pregnancy and I was very close to death. We’re very lucky to be alive.’

Kassidy added that she regrets her decision not to get vaccinated and has urged other mothers to make sure they take up the jabs when they’re offered to them.

‘Mothers need to take this seriously and there were mothers that did not make it… protect yourself and your baby because it can, and it will kill you’, she said.

‘Everyday I get told we’re miracles and I hate to think of it like that, but we really pushed through something unimaginable. I had a tracheotomy which they cut a hole.

‘I was knocking on death’s doors and I’m still shocked I’m here today.’

Scientists believe that pregnant women who contract Covid are at a greater risk of serious illness and pregnancy complications, including miscarriage and pre-term labor.

US Police Woman Shot Dead on the Job this Weekend (video)

A 29-year-old female police officer was shot and killed while another was seriously wounded in an exchange of gunfire during a traffic stop in Chicago over the weekend.

The officer killed Saturday night, August 7, was identified as Ella French. She is the first female cop to be fatally shot on the job in more than three decades, according to the Chicago Police Department.

‘We will never forget the true bravery she exemplified as she laid her life down to protect others,’ the department said of French in a Facebook post on Sunday evening.

The department added that fellow officers will ‘grieve the loss of this hero’ and that it requested support for French’s ‘wounded partner, who is in the hospital fighting for his life’.

8-year-old boy faces death penalty under blasphemy laws for peeing in a religious library

An eight-year-old Hindu boy is being held in protective police custody in Pakistan after being accused of intentionally wetting himself in a religious library.

The child has become the youngest person ever to be charged with blasphemy in the country, a charge which can carry the death penalty.

The boy was accused of “intentionally urinating on a carpet” in the library of madrassa last month, where religious books were kept.

The boy’s family is currently in hiding and many of the Hindu community in Punjab have fled the area after a group of Muslims attacked a Hindu temple in outrage following the accused boy’s release on bail last week.

Soldiers were deployed to the area to help maintain peace.

On Saturday, 20 people were arrested in connection with the temple attack.

Speaking to The Guardian from hiding, one of the boy’s family members said: “He [the boy] is not even aware of such blasphemy issues and he has been falsely indulged in these matters. He still doesn’t understand what his crime was and why he was kept in jail for a week.

“We have left our shops and work, the entire community is scared and we fear backlash. We don’t want to return to this area.

“We don’t see any concrete and meaningful action will be taken against the culprits or to safeguard the minorities living here.”

Legal experts are shocked at the blasphemy charges being filed against the child.

Ramesh Kumar, a lawmaker and head of the Pakistan Hindu Council, said: “The attack on the temple and blasphemy allegations against the eight-year-old minor boy has really shocked me.

“More than a hundred homes of the Hindu community have been emptied due to fear of attack.”

Kapil Dev, a human rights activist, said: “I demand charges against the boy are immediately dropped, and urge the government to provide security for the family and those forced to flee.

“Attacks on Hindu temples have increased in the last few years showing an escalating level of extremism and fanaticism. The recent attacks seem to be a new wave of persecution of Hindus.”

France: Catholic Priest Killed by a ”Rwandan Refugee” He gave Shelter

A Catholic priest was murdered on Monday August 9th in the French western region of Vendée, by a Rwandan refugee who was giving him shelter, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on Twitter.

A suspect handed himself over to police and said he had killed the priest, a source close to the case told AFP news agency.

The suspect, Emmanuel Abayisenga, 40, was on bail and awaiting trial for setting fire to Nantes Cathedral last year but confessed to the killing of 60-year-old Father Olivier Maire in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre earlier this morning.

In an act of compassion, Olivier had welcomed Abayisenga, a devout Catholic, into his community of missionaries in May when he was released from prison on bail.

‘He was recently placed under judicial control, and went to live in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre,’ said an investigating source. ‘He is said to have carried out the killing on Monday morning, before handing himself into police.

‘Early evidence suggests he beat his victim to death,’ the source added.

Abayisenga was living with the Montfortian community, which is made up of missionaries devoted to Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort.

Local prosecutors are leading the investigation, indicating the killing is not being treated as an act of terrorism. BFM TV reported the Rwandan had received treatment in a psychiatric hospital in July.

Following today’s attack, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted: ‘All my support for the Catholics of our country after the dramatic murder of a priest in the Vendée region.’

Faithful and Peaceful Christians held Service in Ruins of Demolished Church building in Maiduguri

Christian faithfuls in Maiduguri gathered on Sunday, August 8, to hold service surrounded by the ruins of their demolished Church.

EYN church in Moduganari, Maiduguri, Borno state, was demolished on August 5 by officials of Borno Geographic Information System (BOGIS) and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), leaving church members without a place for service.

Also, during the demolition of the Church on August 5, 29-year-old Mr Ezekiel Bitrus Tumba, a son of Ecwa Church pastor, was allegedly killed.

But worshippers were undeterred and chose to hold service at the scene of the demolition.

"They demolished the building, thinking it

Sharing photos from the church service, Hausa Christians Foundation, HACFO, wrote on Facebook: “They demolished the building, thinking it is the CHURCH. The Church is Forever unstoppable and indestructible.

“Jesus Said, I will build my church, and the gate of hell shall not prevail against it.”

"They demolished the building, thinking it

Meanwhile, the Chairman of  Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop williams Naga has condemned in strong terms the killing of Mr Ezekiel Bitrus Tumba, a son of Ecwa Church pastor, and demolition of Local Church of Brethern in Nigeria.

Naga said at a press briefing on Saturday, August 7: “The incident which occured on Thursday August 5, 2021 which was the demolition of the EYN LCB Maduganari and killing of a brother, 29 years old Ezekiel Bitrus Tumba, and injuring of five others working at the Church premises by Civilian JTF was tragic, condemnable.

“Officials of Borno Geographic Information System (BOGIS) led by its Executive Secretary, Engr Adams Bababa, brought CJTF to the Church not only for demolition but also ended up killing our brother and son.

“The reaction by youths which followed was report caused by the seizure of peoples’ mobile phones and refusal to return same phones to the people by BOGIS.

"They demolished the building, thinking it

“The entire Christian Community has been thrown into mourning mood as brother who was a bread winner of his family was sent to his early grave by zealous BOGIS head and CJTF for simple reason of stoppìng Church expansion in the state.

“Unfortunately, we the Christians in the state have been denied Certificate of Occupancy to build Church by the state government since 1979, but we acquire lands/plots by ‘Deed of Assignment to build our places of worship’.

“It appears BOGIS with these latest activities is out to ensure no church is allowed to exist in the state, fuel tension and caused disatisfaction among peace loving Chritians and Muslims in a fragile state as Borno.”

NewYork Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Secretary Resigns amid Sexual Scandal Involving her Boss

Secretary to New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo has resigned amid a sexual harassment scandal involving her boss.

Melissa DeRosa, secretary to Cuomo, announced her resignation on Sunday, August 8, saying working for the people of New York “has been the greatest honour of my life”.

This comes after a report released last week claimed Mr Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women.

Cuomo denies any wrongdoing and has vowed to stay in office, however, with the Democratic party, Senate leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and even president Joe Biden asking him to resign, he is set to face impeachment by the New York House of Reps.

The report by the state’s Attorney General Letitia James found that Cuomo had sexually harassed multiple women and violated state and federal laws.

Investigators spent five months speaking to nearly 200 people, including staff members and some of those who made complaints against him. Tens of thousands of documents, texts and pictures were reviewed as part of the inquiry.

His secretary, DeRosa was mentioned in the report 187 times in the 168-page report. She was accused of efforts to cover up the governor’s actions and retaliating against one of his accusers.

Her resignation statement on Sunday August 8, did not address the allegations.

“Personally, the past two years have been emotionally and mentally trying. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such talented colleagues on behalf of our state,” she said.

On Monday, August 9, the New York State Assembly/s Judiciary Committee is set to meet to address potential impeachment proceedings.

The International Police arrests Nigerian Human trafficker and Other 286 Persons involved

The International Police has arrested a Nigerian alleged to be running a human trafficking ring from Ghana, Togo, Benin to Nigeria.

The Nigerian, who was not named, was intercepted by officers in Ghana.

The suspect had been placed under a Red Notice by Spain during an operation against cross-border crimes.

He was caught when the officers conducted a check on a passenger manifest during an operation tagged, “Smuggling Training and Operations Programme.”

A statement from the Interpol website reads: “Operation STOP (Smuggling Training and Operations Program) included training provided to 20 frontline officers to optimize the use of INTERPOL’s policing capabilities – including its criminal and stolen and lost travel documents databases – to better track the movement of criminals and identify potential victims.

“After the training session, officers from various enforcement services including aviation security, customs, immigration, narcotics and Ghana’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau were deployed to Accra Airport where they carried out almost 33,000 checks against INTERPOL’s databases.

“In this respect, the detection from a passenger manifest of a Nigerian national wanted internationally under a Red Notice issued by Spain on human trafficking charges further underlined the role of INTERPOL’s policing tools to help secure borders by identifying wanted individuals.

“The hit on the Spanish Red Notice was generated by checking names and passports against INTERPOL’s databases using I-Batch, an application that processes bulk data from passenger manifests in a very short time.”

Apart from the Nigerian suspect, 286 human trafficking suspects were also arrested worldwide by the global agency in July.
