However, Kanye West has said he does not intend to invest in NFTs.

He wrote on Instagram: “My focus is on building real products in the real world. Real food, real clothes, real shelter. Do not ask me to do a fucking NFT. Ask me later.”

FCT Bill: Abuja landlords may be forced to collect monthly rent soon

A bill seeking to regulate rent payments in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has passed a second reading in the senate.

The bill sponsored by Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC, Kogi), specifically seeks to stop yearly advance payment of rents and compel house owners to collect rent monthly in arrears.

According to Adeyemi, the bill will cushion the effect of outrageous rents on properties on residents in the nation’s capital. The lawmaker also noted that many properties in Abuja are empty because of the outrageous rents placed on them, and because some landlords always insist their tenants pay one year or two years rent.

Adeyemi said;

“Many residents of FCT are finding it very difficult to cope with huge rent payment, the reason many of the houses built for such purpose are empty.

“That is wrong. There are many tenants whose salaries are competing with their rents because they live in cities like Abuja.”

Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC, Niger) also backed the bill which he described people-centred, urging his colleagues to support its passage.

Abdullahi said; 

“There’s no gain saying that many residents in FCT are groaning under this difficult system where tenants are asked to pay house rent yearly in advance.”

Senators Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto) and Bala Ibn Na’Allah (APC, Kebbi) also supported the bill. Na’Allah stated that a system where tenants, many of whom receive meagre salaries, are forced to pay rent annually in advance encourages corruption.

He said; 

“Where we operate a system that makes it difficult for people to survive, then we may not be able fight corruption notwithstanding the resources deployed for the purpose.”

Only Senator Chimaroke Nnamani (PDP, Enugu) opposed the bill. He maintained that rents are determined by market forces, like cost of acquiring land and building materials. This however, did not stop the passage of the bill for second reading.

R. Kelly contracts COVID-19 in prison while awaiting final sentencing

R&B singer, R. Kelly has contracted COVID-19 while awaiting sentencing in a Brooklyn federal jail for his racketeering conviction, his lawyer revealed in a court filing early Tuesday February 1.

The singer’s diagnosis has hampered his ability to speak on the phone about his appeal of his conviction, which is due Thursday, said Kelly’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, in asking for a two-week extension.

“It is vitally important that Mr. Kelly meaningfully participate in his post-trial defense,” Bonjean wrote in the motion, saying she hoped to communicate with him in an upcoming Zoom call.

Bonjean, a New York-based attorney whose legal career began in Chicago, also noted that Kelly had decided to part ways with his original trial team, but that formal withdrawals were still pending.

Bonjean said prosecutors did not object to the delay.  U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly granted the extension. The new deadline to file the appeal is now Feb. 17.

Thirty-nine inmates have reportedly contracted the virus at the facility where Kelly is being held.

Kelly, 54, was convicted Sept. 27 on racketeering conspiracy charges, alleging he used his music career to further a criminal enterprise. The jury found him guilty of 12 individual illegal acts, including sex with multiple underage girls as well as a 1994 scheme to bribe an Illinois public aid official to get a phony ID for 15-year-old singer Aaliyah so the two could get married.

He faces 10 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced in May.

The singer also is charged in U.S. District Court in Chicago with running years ong scheme to buy back sex tapes he allegedly made with underage girls and to bribe or coerce witnesses in his 2008 child pornography trial in Cook County, which ended in acquittal. U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber has set a trial for August in that case.

Vibrant Lawyer, Ugwuonye sues Air Peace and gives 10 conditions for truce

Harvard trained lawyer and founder of Due Process Advocates, Barrister Emeka Ugwuonye has given Air Peace ten conditions that must be fulfilled before he can withdraw the lawsuit he slammed against them.

Tori Media over the weekend had reported how the human rights lawyer sued Air Peace for having disregard for Nigerians after his flight was rescheduled multiple times without formal notice and apology from the company.

Ugwuonye in a statement announced that he was dragging the airline to court for toying and putting him through extreme pain and suffering.

However, while announcing his new position on the matter through an official letter, the Harvard trained scholar presented ten conditions to the airline company before the lawsuit he proffered against them can be withdrawn.

In the letter which a copy was made available to Tori Media, Ugwuonye demanded Air Peace to tender unreserved apology to their customers and that the company must agree to observe the following standards when dealing with customer complaints, (a) Where a flight is delayed beyond 3 hours, Air Peace shall:
(i) offer the traveler the option of rebooking his flight to another day at no further fees or costs, or.

COMPLAINT AND DEMAND

Please permit me to address you concerning the mistreatment I suffered in the hands of Air Peace management and staff on Thursday, 27th January, 2022.

On the said date, I was to travel from Abuja to Lagos. I was to fly back to Lagos via your 4:25pm flight. I got to the airport by 2pm. At the Air Peace check-in counter, I was told by Air Peace staff that my flight had been rescheduled for 8:10pm the same day. The staff who attended to me did not give me any reason for the change of schedule. Instead, she offered me a business class seat on an Air Peace flight leaving within two hours, if I were willing to pay N40,000 to upgrade my ticket. I felt disappointed, but I had no choice than to wait. I checked in my one-piece luggage and was issued a boarding pass showing a departure time of 8:10pm.

I had to wait at the departure lounge for the 8:10pm flight. The rescheduling of my flight caused me to cancel a meeting I was to have with my staff in Lagos by 7pm that evening. At 8:10pm, Air Peace did not call for boarding. I became anxious and wondered what that meant. By 9pm, there was an announcement that my flight had been moved again, now to 10:00pm. At this point, I tried to return to the city of Abuja, as I felt it would be too late for me to be in the streets of Lagos by midnight in order to travel from Murtala Mohammed Airport to my residence in Ikoyi. However, Air Peace staff could not retrieve my luggage because they had flown it to Lagos on some flight that departed Abuja to Lagos between 2pm and 8pm. So, I was forced to stay back at the Abuja airport, as I could not go back into the city without my luggage.

By 10:00pm, there was yet another announcement indicating that the departure time for my flight had been moved again, this time to 11pm. Finally, my flight took off by 11:43pm and we arrived Lagos by 12:33am. I spent over an hour at the Murtala Mohammed Airport looking for my luggage which arrived Lagos in an earlier flight. I finally made it out of the arrival lounge and into an area where I could find a driver that would take me to Ikoyi. That took quite some time, as the few driver still at the airport all refused to go to Ikoyi out of concern for their safety. I finally found a driver who charged me N15,000 and I made it home by 3:00am.

In the end, I felt deeply hurt and humiliated by your staff in the manner they handle my trip. It was only later that I began to hear that the reason for delaying my flight for 8 hours was due to weather. I did not believe this to be the case because my luggage was flown to Lagos during the same time period that weather was said to have prevented all flights from Abuja to Lagos. I was compelled by my ordeal to post on my Facebook Forum, (Movement for Peaceful Change) the experience I had with your Airline. I was shocked by the reactions of the public to my post.

Upon investigation as to why I was not aware that my 4:25pm flight had been rescheduled, I discovered that indeed a message was sent to me by Air Peace. The message was sent by 2:17am on 27th of January stating that the 4:25pm flight on 27th January was being rescheduled to 6:25pm (different from 8:10pm I was told when I got to the airport). It is very dubious that Air Peace knew by 2:17am that there would be a weather problem by 4:25pm. Indeed, the 2:17am message stated: “Dear esteemed passenger, due to operational reasons, we regret to announce the time change in your flight programme. Flight 7135, Abuja to Lagos for today, 27th January, 2022 will now depart at 6:25pm. We truly regret the impact of this sudden time change on your travel plans. Please bear with us…” That shows dishonesty in the subsequent excuses of weather conditions. Essentially, Air Peace had its capricious and selfish reasons for changing the flight time, and it lied about it.

My best assessment of what happened was that Air Peace has a practice of booking passengers for flights without any commitment to the passengers’ preferred departure or arrival time. It gathers all those travelling on a particular day and a given city, and then begin to assign them to different flight schedules in a manner to ensure that each flight was as full as possible, regardless of the passengers’ preferred schedule. Air Peace passengers fly not when they want to fly, but when Air Peace wants them to fly. This is a very primitive and underhanded practice in airline booking. All those excuses about weather or operational reasons seem to be mere pretext to cover up this bizarre practice.

Whereas I had thought that what happened to me was an exceptional event, on the contrary, I was inundated with cries and complaints from other travelers who had similar or worse experience from Air Peace. The sheer number of these unhappy travelers and the agonizing tales they had to tell left a very profound impression on me. I became quite disturbed the more I realized the implications of what happened to me. I perceived a culture of impunity, not just within Air Peace, but equally, in the manner other airlines treated travelers. I was left with no choice than to seek redress in a court of law unless Air Peace would agree to the following demands: Related Posts

(1) That Air Peace tender a public apology to its customers who have been similarly hurt and mistreated. Such apology should come from the top management of Air Peace. It should admit wrongdoing and show genuine remorse, and promise to improve. Air Peace has to understand that the people are not stupid. They did not buy the general weather excuse. It was too convenient for Air Peace to invoke that excuse whenever it liked, believing that the travelers wouldn’t know any better.

(2) That Air Peace agree to observe the following standards when dealing with customer complaints:

(a) Where a flight is delayed beyond 3 hours, Air Peace shall:
(i) offer the traveler the option of rebooking his flight to another day at no further fees or costs, or

(ii) rebook him in a flight with any other airline that is departing to his destination. Example: If an Air Peace flight originally scheduled for 2pm cannot take off by 5pm, Air Peace should place the affected passenger in, say, Dana flight to the person’s destination, without any additional fee from the passenger, or

(iii) offer the affected traveler a full refund of what he paid for the ticket.

NOTE: It is not fair that when an airline has an excuse to delay flights, it will be only the passenger that suffers it. The airline should bear the cost of such weather-induced delay. As it is now, Air Peace loses nothing if a delay keeps people at the airport for 10 hours. Air Peace still makes the profit it would have made if there was no such delay. So, Air Peace has no incentive to avoid delays because the affected passenger has absolutely no option than to wait or forfeit his ticket fee. But by refunding passengers their money, Air Peace will have an incentive to avoid delays. The passenger should not be the only person to lose each time there is a weather problem. The airline should bear that loss or at least share in it.

(3) Where Air Peace notices that there will be a delay need to reschedule a flight, it must notify the passenger honestly and reasonably.

(4) If, as a result of more than 3-hours delay, a passenger arrives at his destination airport after 10pm, Air Peace shall provide a vehicle to convey the person to his final destination or shall pay for a bed and breakfast for that person in a hotel near to the airport. Leaving a traveler stranded at the airport or risking his life trying to get home by midnight in such circumstance is wrong and unacceptable.

(5) Air Peace shall commit to providing further training for its staff that deal directly with customers to reduce the humiliation that passengers have reported to have endured in the hands of Air Peace staff.

(6) Air Peace shall commit to establishing its own claims department with capacity to effectively treat passenger complaints. At present, Air Peace complaint unit either does not exist or it is poorly staff and equipped. Hence, complaints are not attended to in an effective or responsive manner.

(7) If a passenger arrives at his destination other than his city of residence, while his luggage was left behind or mistakenly sent to a different destination, Air Peace shall offer a reasonable amount of money to enable the passenger to purchase toiletries and clothes to wear until his luggage arrives within a reasonable time, not longer than 48 hours.

(8) If a passenger’s luggage is lost by Air Peace, it shall make an offer to pay compensation for the lost luggage within two weeks.

(9) If a passenger mistakenly pays twice for the same ticket, Air Peace shall refund the excess payment within 24 hours.

(10) In the event that an altercation between a passenger and staff of Air Peace is video-recorded by the passenger or a third party, Air Peace shall treat such video recording as valid evidence that belongs to the owner or maker of the video recording, and not try to destroy such evidence.

All the above ten demands can be met in the initial stage by a public statement and declaration of principles and objectives by Air Peace management, and then followed up with concrete measures within a reasonable time.

We believe that Air Peace is the leader of the commercial aviation industry in Nigeria. It is in a strong position to implement these standards, and they will be followed by other airlines in Nigeria. Once there is a commitment to these reforms and improvements in standards of passenger treatment, We shall not proceed with litigation. However, if Air Peace rejects these demands, we shall be left with no option than to pursue a class action lawsuit against Air Peace. And for that purpose, we have commenced the process of preparing a register of victims of Air Peace. Thank you for your consideration of my letter.

Brian Houston, Hillsong Church Founder, resigns amid sexual scandal that involves his late father

Hillsong Church founder, Brian Houston is temporarily stepping down from leading the megachurch as he prepares for his trial in Australia.

This is coming amid numerous scandals and an ongoing court case accusing Houston of hiding his late father’s sexual abuse of children, all of which the church has denied.

Houston said he’s resigning from “all ministry responsibilities” until the end of 2022, pending his legal battle over charges that he concealed child sex offenses committed by his late preacher father Frank Houston. Brian has repeatedly denied the allegations.

He wrote; 

“In September last year, I learned it was necessary for me to step aside as a director of all Hillsong boards during this season, enabling me to give attention to these charges.

“But recently, we made a decision that may come as a surprise to you, and I want you to hear it from me directly.”

The decision for Houston to “step aside completely” from the leadership of the multinational church he and wife Bobbie founded in 1983 came in December, at the recommendation of “Hillsong’s external legal counsel.” 

He added; 

“The court processes are likely to be drawn out and take up most of 2022 (especially considering the backlog in the courts, exacerbated by the COVID pandemic).

“We have talked about the effects of the situation with my father, which go back many years up to the current legal case, and the impact this has had on me emotionally. The result is that the Hillsong Global Board feel it is in my and the church’s best interest for this to happen, so I have agreed to step aside from all ministry responsibilities until the end of the year.”

65-year-old Bobbie who is not charged in the yearslong case, will “remain fully engaged in church life” during Brian’s “sabbatical,” as the couple’s daughter Laura Toggs referred to his resignation in an Instagram post.

“Police will allege in court the man knew information relating to the sexual abuse of a young male in the 1970s and failed to bring that information to the attention of police,” officials for Sydney’s Royal Commission on Institutional Leaders’ Handling of Sexual Abuse told publications upon charging Houston in August. The charges carry a maximum sentence of up to five years behind bars and followed a two-year investigation pf Brian’s father Frank Houston’s sexual abuse of Brett Sengstock, then 7 years old, in 1969 and 1970.

Frank — who died in 2004 at age 82 — “raped, choked and brutalized” Sengstock, then attempted to bribe him with $10,000 (AUD) — via a hand-scrawled contract on a McDonald’s napkin, Sengstock has stated. The payoff was allegedly sent as a check in the mail from Brian himself after Frank apparently failed to complete the agreed transaction, The Post previously reported.

Brian is charged with failing to turn over evidence concerning the crimes of his father, whose ministry career was functionally terminated after Brian sacked him in 1999, the Guardian reported in 2014.

Representatives for Hillsong have repeatedly denied claims that Brian Houston covered it up to The Post.

Hillsong, which has drawn the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Chris Pratt and Kylie Jenner as members, has faced several waves of controversy in recent years. Pastor Carl Lentz, Bieber’s one-time spiritual confidante, was fired in 2020 over “moral failures” amid reports he had multiple extramarital affairs. Pastor Darnell Barrett stepped down last April after sending explicit photos to at least one of his followers.

The church is the subject of Discovery+’s upcoming three-part docuseries Breaking Hillsong, which will explore the “headline-making world of global star-studded megachurch Hillsong and the downfall of its ultra-hip, celebrity senior pastor, Carl Lentz.”

Beijing: Free condoms given to athletes for 2022 Winter Olympics, no hugs and handshakes

Free condoms will be handed to athletes at next month’s Winter Olympics in Beijing, but competitors have been discouraged from shaking hands and hugging in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The International Olympics Committee revealed in the events playbook that athletes were required to minimise interaction, and stay within their ‘close loop’ due to worries over the spread of COVID-19.

The IOC playbook revealed the ‘closed loop’ had been introduced to ‘keep Games participants and the people of China safe through reducing unnecessary interactions’.

The playbook read: “A special system has been defined to keep Games participants and the people of China safe through reducing unnecessary interactions, while still allowing you to perform the day-to-day activities essential to your role during the Games.

“This closed loop system allows you to enter China without undergoing a compulsory 21-day quarantine, subject to you being fully vaccinated.”

The games are set to start on Friday, and athletes from all over the world will compete in 15 different sports until Feb. 20.

A report from Reuters however, has confirmed that athletes will all be distributed free condoms upon arrival, following an email from event officials.

The email read: “All Olympic-related units will provide appropriate quantities of condoms for free at the appropriate time to people who’ve checked in to stay inside the loop.”

Reuters also revealed that those included in the free distribution are the world’s media in Beijing to cover the Games, after journalists checking into Guizhou Hotel found five condoms in their room.

Free condoms at the event will come as no surprise to athletes and ‘closed loop’ Game goers, with the distribution first starting at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

NAPTIP in collaboration with the Indian police arrest female human trafficker and frees 3 Nigerian victims forced into prostitution

The joint operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the New Delhi Police has arrested a notorious foreign-based alleged human trafficker, Joy Shandy Okah in a deliberate operation targeting big-time traffickers outside Nigeria.

The successful operation also led to the rescue of three Nigerian victims of forced prostitution (names withheld) in New Delhi, India.

Head, Press and Public Relations Unit, Stella Nezan. in a statement on Monday January 31, recalled that the Director-General, Dr Fatima Waziri – Azi, on the assumption of duties, had vowed to ensure that high profile human traffickers across the World were identified, arrested, prosecuted and the proceed of their ill-gotten wealth confiscated and forfeited as restitution to victims of trafficking.

Explaining how the operation was coordinated, the Head of the International and Intelligence Cooperation Unit of NAPTIP, Mrs Angela Agbayekhai, said the prompt directive and support from the Director-General greatly accounted for the success of the operation.

“On 12th December 2021, NAPTIP received an SOS via email from a Nigerian Minor-17 years old (names withheld) who was deceitfully trafficked from Nigeria for forced prostitution in India. She requested the intervention of the NAPTIP for her rescue and that of other Nigerian victims held captive and forced into the sex trade by one Joy Shandy Okah, a Nigerian based in India.

“NAPTIP networked with the Indian based NGO Vihaan-WMS through intelligence sharing, which resulted in the rescue of the three victims and arrest of their trafficker on at New Krishna Park near Well Pharmacy Vikaspuri, New Delhi – India.

“The victims were recruited from Edo, Delta and Rivers States, Nigeria and trafficked to India for sexual exploitation by Joy Shandy Okah ‘F’, and her accomplices. One of the victims travelled from Nigeria on 17th September 2021, while the other two arrived in India from Nigeria on 14th December 2021.

The victims were subjected to oath rituals in Nigeria before their eventual travel. The victims travelled with questionable Passports and Student Visas. They were eventually held captive in New Delhi by their trafficker, Joy Shandy Okah, who sponsored their trip to India.

“Their phones and travel documents were seized and they were forced into prostitution to pay up a debt of N4.5 Million naira each until their rescue on 6th January 2022.

“Joy Shandy is currently facing trial in an Indian Court since 7th January 2022 after her arrest and the victims who are currently in a safe house linked to Vihaan-WMS and assisting the authorities in this regard”, the Head of the Intelligence Unit of NAPTIP said.

Speaking on the development, Director General of NAPTIP, Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi, stated;

“I have directed that all persons linked with the recruitment, harbouring, trafficking and sexual exploitation of the three victims who are based in Nigeria, be identified, arrested and prosecuted.

“We shall take the appropriate legal step to ensure that such proceeds of crime are forfeited and use to assuage the pain inflicted on the victims.”

BREAKING: Manchester United sever ties from rape-accused Mason Greenwood

Manchester United fans are no longer able to buy Mason Greenwood merchandise on the club’s website following his arrest, The Sun reports.

Greenwood was brought into police custody on Sunday afternoon after his girlfriend Harriet Robson made public allegations of rape and assault. He has remained there for questioning ever since.

Prior to the arrest being confirmed by Greater Manchester Police, Manchester United had confirmed that Greenwood would not be allowed to attend training or participate in games until further notice.

The club are understood to have stopped short of suspending him, but as per The Sun, any trace of Greenwood on the Man United official website has now been removed. Related Posts

Though his guilt is yet to be determined, it’s not a good look for a global brand like Man United to be associated with a player accused of rape and assault.

Frank Lampard, ex. Chelsea Boss, confirmed as Everton’s new manager

Everton have appointed Frank Lampard as their new manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract to replace the sacked Rafael Benitez.

Lampard, who arrived at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground on Monday January 31, where he was expected to take first-team training for the first time, said: “It is a huge honour for me to represent and manage a club the size and tradition of Everton Football Club.

“I’m very hungry to get started. After speaking to the owner, chairman and the board, I very much felt their passion and ambition. I hope they felt my ambition and how hard I want to work to bring it together.

“You can feel the passion Everton fans have for their club. That will be hugely important. As a team – the competitive level that the Premier League brings and the position we are in the table – we certainly need that. It’s a two-way thing.

Former Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard confirmed as Everton

“I think Everton is a unique club in that you can really understand what the fans want to see. The first thing they want is fight and desire and that must always be our baseline.

“My first message to the players will be that we have to do this together. We’ll try to do our job and I know the fans will be there backing us.”

JAMB postphones 2022 UTME to May 6 and adds 2 additional subjects

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new date for the conduct of the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In its weekly bulletin released on Monday, January 31,, the UTME exercise initially scheduled for April 20 to 30,  would now hold as from Friday, May 6 to Monday, May 16. Similarly, the mock-UTME exercise earlier scheduled for April 2, would now be held on April 16.

However, JAMB said the date for the commencement of the sale of the 2022 UTME/DE application forms fixed for February 12 to March 19 remains.

It explained that the adjustments were meant to accommodate the interest of candidates who would be sitting for the UTME and others external examinations in April to ensure they were not caught in a conflict of dates that could see them missing any of their examinations.

The board also said it has introduced Computer Studies and Physical and Health Education as part of  its UTME subjects for 2022. It also said it would adopt an optional USSD code to enable candidates seamlessly register for the 2022 UTME without much stress or difficulty.

Computer Studies and Physical and Health Education are the latest subjects to be added to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). 

The exam body’s Director of Public Relations, Dr. Fabian Benjamin told newsmen that the candidates sitting for the UTME can now pick Computer Studies or Physical and Health Education as part of the four required UTME subjects, if they so desire or as dictated by their programme preferences.

Addition of the two subjects to the existing 23 UTME subjects would be effective from the 2022 UTME exercise.

Mali’s military Govt. expels its French ambassador – he has 3 days to leave the country

Mali’s military leaders have expelled the French ambassador to the country over what they called “outrageous” comments made by the French foreign minister about the transitional government.


Relations between France and Mali, a landlocked country in West Africa which is one of the world’s poorest nations, have deteriorated since the army seized power in August 2020.

Tensions increased further this month when the military junta reversed an agreement to arrange elections in February and vowed to hold power until 2025.

Tensions continue to mount in recent weeks as Mali’s interim president, Col Assimi Goïta, solidified his control and showed reluctance to uphold international agreements.


The French foreign minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, said last week that Mali’s leadership was “illegitimate and takes irresponsible measures”.


The Malian government summoned the French ambassador, Joël Meyer, on Monday, January 31 and said he had 72 hours to leave the country, according to a Malian government statement announced on state television.

“This measure follows the hostile and outrageous comments made recently by the French minister of Europe and foreign affairs and the recurrence of such comments by the French authorities with regard to the Malian authorities, despite repeated protests,” the statement said

 The statement did not specify which comments it was referring to.

This latest episode in the diplomatic crisis between Mali and its foreign partners comes days after the Malian government ordered Danish soldiers deployed in the French-led Takuba military operation to leave. The representative for the Economic Community of West African States was also expelled from the country earlier this month after sanctions were imposed on Mali.

French Defence Minister Florence Parly accused Mali’s rulers of stepping up “provocations” against his country.

Western powers are also concerned about Russia’s growing involvement in the former French colony.

Moscow reportedly sent military advisors in recent weeks to bolster local security forces in their fight with jihadist insurgents. Unconfirmed reports say hundreds of Russian mercenaries are also operating in the country.

France, which intervened in 2013 to support the government against the jihadists, plans to reduce its own troop deployment.

France stepped in in 2013 after Islamist militants overran parts of the north. With the help of France, Mali’s army has recaptured the territory, but militants are waging an increasingly bloody insurgency across the Sahel region.

North Korea Launches the most Powerful Missile Since 2017

North Korea on Sunday tested its most powerful missile since 2017, ramping up the firepower for its record-breaking seventh launch this month as Seoul warned nuclear and long-range tests could be next, Tori Media reports.

Pyongyang has never test-fired this many missiles in a calendar month before and last week threatened to abandon a nearly five-year-long self-imposed moratorium on testing long-range and nuclear weapons, blaming US “hostile” policy for forcing its hand.

Cheslie Kryst, Miss USA, commits suicide

Miss USA 2019, Cheslie Kryst, has died at the age of 30.

Kryst, who is a lawyer, jumped from the 60-story Orion building at 350 W. 42nd St. around 7:15 a.m on Sunday,  Jan. 30. and was found dead in the street below, sources said.

NDLEA nabs 3 drug barons with over 48,000 tabs of Tramadol and seized lots of intrnational passports including UK, France, Portugal passports at MMIA

Three trans-border drug traffickers have been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, while trying to smuggle 48,000 tablets of 225mg Tramadol through Mubi, Adamawa state to Cameroon Republic, just as over 1,500 kilograms of imported Loud and other illicit substances have been intercepted in raids across Lagos and Edo states.

Director, Media & Advocacy of the agency, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday January 30, said that the suspects: Mohammed Hussaini, 32; Adamu Bella, 18, and Mohammed Umar, 18, were arrested at Tsamiya Junction, Madanya Road, Mubi, Mubi North LGA, Adamawa State on Friday 28th January, with the exhibits concealed in the packets of another drug.

When interviewed, they claimed the drugs were being taken to Bagira town along Nigeria-Cameroon border to be delivered to some Cameroonians for onward delivery to Maroa in Cameroon.

This comes on the heels of a similar operation at Alaba Rago area of Lagos where operatives of the state command of the Agency intercepted 1,200 parcels of imported Loud, a strong variant of cannabis suspected to have been smuggled into the state from a neighbouring country with a total weight of 1,229 kilograms.

In another raid on Wednesday 26th Jan, at Suru Alaba, Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, Lagos, operatives arrested one Ibrahim Musa, 25, with 18,530 tablets of Tramadol, Rohynol, Diazepam, Exol-5, and 138 bottles of Codeine.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, operatives at the SAHCO export shed of the airport during their routine cargo search intercepted a consignment of 22 international passports of six different countries concealed in a bag of Gari among other food items.

Nine of the passports were three each of UK, France and Portugal, while the rest were: Nigeria -8; Ghana -4 and Cameroon -1. Also at the airport, operatives equally recovered 12 parcels of cannabis weighing 4.95kg concealed in a carton of Golden Morn packaged for export through the SAHCO export shed.

In Plateau state, a team of NDLEA officers on Friday 28th Jan. arrested two suspects; Emeka Ezenwa, 37, and Julius Akingbe, 45, for being in possession of 126.5grams of methamphetamine concealed inside a DVD player coming from Lagos, while a raid in Kampani Zera- Wase LGA of the state on Friday led to the arrest of Fatima Sadiq, 20, who was caught with 21.3kg cannabis.

A similar raid on Friday of a notorious drug joint, Bakin Kogi Ringim, Jigawa state led to the recovery of different quantities of Cannabis, Diazepam, Exol-5 and some new psychoactive substances with a total weight of 8.680kg as well as weapons such as knives, cutlasses, Gora sticks, catapults and charms.

In Edo state, operatives recovered 19 bags of cannabis weighing 144.10kg stored in the bush along Uromi Road, Esan North East LGA ready to be transported to other parts of the country, while eight bags of the same substance weighing 111kg were recovered from a bush at Iruekpen, Esan West LGA.

Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa  has commended officers and men of Lagos, MMIA, Adamawa, Plateau and Edo commands of the Agency for their tenacity and vigilance.

He charged them along with their colleagues across the country not to relent until the last gram of illicit drug is recovered from every part of Nigeria.

British singer, Adele is ‘trying to save her relationship’ with boyfriend Rich Paul as it goes ‘sour’

British singer, Adele is reportedly been trying to save her relationship with her millionaire sports agent boyfriend Rich Paul, after their time apart hugely strained it.

British tabloid, The Sun reported that the singer spent the past week holed at her boyfriend’s home after they struggled to see each other in recent weeks. 

While Rich Paul has been travelling for work, Adele has been in Las Vegas for her residency. Sources told the publication over the weekend that there’s “trouble in paradise” for the couple amid claims she cancelled her Weekends With Adele shows because of problems in their relationship.

Adele had earlier said set issues, production delays and key team members contracting Covid meant the show “ain’t ready”, which led to her scrapping the 24-date residency.

The source said; 

“Adele is staying at Rich’s house in Beverly Hills just trying to fix their relationship because things have become strained.

“They barely saw each other at the beginning of the month because he was away for work and she was trying to focus on the Vegas show.

“She was upset he couldn’t be there with her when things started falling apart with the residency and it made things difficult for them both. She needed him there, but he couldn’t because he has his own busy career too.

“It was a very emotional and stressful time for her. Now they are spending some quality time together to try to save things.

“They really like each other but it’s been a tough few weeks.”

It was previously claimed Adele was heard “shouting and sobbing” on the phone to Rich during rehearsals.

Rich, 40, is her first public relationship since divorcing entrepreneur Simon Konecki, the father of her nine-year-old son Angelo, in 2019. The couple were first spotted together at a basketball game in July 2021.

Odion Ighalo signs up with Al-Hilal on ‘1 year and 6 months’ deal leaving Al Shabab

Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has joined Saudi Arabian side, Al-Hilal from rivals Al Shabab.

Al-Hilal who are currently fourth in the Saudi League announced the signing of the Nigeria international after he penned a one-and-a-half-year deal until June 2023.

“Welcome the ‘Eagle’, Odion Ighalo,” the tweet from Al Hilal read, accompanied by a graphic image of the Nigerian in his club’s colour.

The striker will replace Bafétimbi Gomis after the Frenchman’s contract was terminated on January 24.

The former Manchester United striker is currently the top scorer in the Saudi Arabian league with 13 league goals from 19 appearances.

Thai man yanks off his pen!s with scissors after using smoking cannabis

A man cut off his penis as he suffered a psychotic episode after smoking cannabis, a new medical case study has revealed.


According to the case study report published by the Journal of Medical Case Reports, the individual, aged 23, from Thailand, had used cannabis for two years before quitting the habit.


Three months later, he smoked 2g of cannabis and experienced an erection two hours later, without any form of sexual stimulation.

He reportedly started feeling a severe persistent sharp pain in his penis, and said his glans looked distorted.


The man, thinking he could stop the pain, decided to trim the glans penis several times using scissors – but then completely amputated his penis.


Two hours after, the bleeding had not stopped and the man had to be rushed to hospital.


Doctors believed the penis was too damaged to save and all the dead skin and flesh has been removed.


The doctors said the amputated part was contaminated with ants, while the remaining stump was 2 cm in length.


‘After admission and cannabis discontinuation, his delusion and hallucination subsided’, the report said.

The report stated that cannabis-induced psychosis was diagnosed because symptoms began after cannabis use, without evidence of other substance abuse.


Lead author of the study,  Nantanan Jengsuebsant, from the Department of Emergency Medicine, noted cannabis has been widely used around the world for medical and recreational purposes but the man’s experience was a rare case.


Cannabis does exhibits many adverse effects, including psychosis, the report added.


The research team concluded: ‘Cannabis-induced psychosis is an adverse effect of cannabis, which may lead to impaired judgement unexpected self-harm.’

Kanye West is reportedly not happy after finding out that his current flame, Julia Fox used to have sexual relations with his hiphop rival, Drake.

Sources close to Davidson confirm what DJ Akademiks claimed earlier this week, “Kanye’s been telling everybody within earshot” that Pete has AIDS.

The outlet also reported that Kanye’s claim has led to a handful of awkward phone calls between Pete and mutual friends he has with Kanye, and they are confused and disturbed by the childish behavior.

Over 160 stranded Nigerians repatriated from Libya to Nigeria

A batch of 167 Nigerians stranded in Libya have been repatriated to the country.

The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Tuesday night. 

The returnees comprised of 65 adult females, eight female children, 76 male adults and 18 male children.

The reception exercise, which was coordinated by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons and Facilitated by IOM under the EU/IOM Return and Reintegration initiative successfully received and profiled the returnees.

Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mustapha Habib, who received them, advised the youth to look beyond seeking greener pastures in foreign lands.

The DG, who was represented by the NEMA Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, urged the returnees to look inward towards making the best use of abundant resources abound in Nigeria.

Dusan Vlahovic has finally completed his £62million move from Fiorentina to Juventus after successfully undergoing a medical in Turin, and rejecting a move to Arsenal.

Nigerian medical personnel, Dr. Olufunmilayo, has warned against the use of toilet rolls to cleanup whenever one passes excreta.

In a thread shared on his Twitter handle, Dr Olufunmilayo opined that toilet rolls are harmful to the anus. He said instead of using Tissue paper, people should use soap and water or wet towels to clean up whenever they use the restroom.

His thread reads;

”NEVER use toilet-roll after you shit. NEVER use toilet-roll after you shit. Can tear your anus, Waste of time/money, Leaves your anus dirty and smelly, Can give you urine infection, Stains your pant/boxers with shit. TOILET ROLLS ARE HARMFUL FOR YOUR ANUS

The real problem with a toilet roll is that it actually does NOT clean your anus properly. What a toilet roll does is to take off the top shit and smear the rest of the shit across your anus (and anus hair if you have some). This left over shit can cause you medical problems.

So what’s the BEST way to clean your anus after you shit? Use soap and water! Washing your anus with soap and water after you shit remains the MOST EFFECTIVE way of cleaning. If no soap (or time), The next best way is to use water only. If no soap and water, Use wet wipes.

If you use toilet at work, Or you may use a public toilet where getting soap and water may not be available, may waste time or the water may be too dirty, Use wet wipes. Wet wipes are your best bet in that situation. Always carry wet wipes in your bag or car. That’s the advice.

Argentina coach, Lionel Scaloni has revealed that Lionel Messi is still suffering from the effects of having Covid, after he contracted the ‘roughest variant’ during the winter break.

PSG superstar Messi has played just once this year after getting infected last month, making his return in the 4-0 win over Reims last weekend.

However, Messi was not called up for Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Chile and Colombia due to the fact that he was still not 100 percent fully recovered from the virus, according to Scaloni.

‘I talked to (Messi) after he tested positive for COVID,’ Scaloni told a press conference on Wednesday. ‘It affected him a lot, he had the roughest variant.

‘It is important that he recovers, feels fit because there will be important moments ahead. I felt that it was not ideal for him to joins us [on international duty this weekend] not being at 100 per cent. He was affected for a some time.’ 

Scaloni told reporters that his assistants Walter Samuel and Roberto Ayala will be in charge for the match. Argentina has already secured a spot at the tournament in Qatar, while Chile is still in contention.

‘I am well, recovered. But the PCR remains positive,’ Scaloni added.

Brazil and Argentina have both qualified for the World Cup, with two more automatic spots up for grabs in South American qualifying. 

The fifth-place team advances to a playoff against an Asian opponent. Only last-place Venezuela, with seven points, is out of contention.

US Govt bans China Unicom over espionage concerns

The United States has banned Chinese telecoms giant, China Unicom from operating in the country over “significant” national security and espionage concerns.

The firm must stop providing telecoms services in America within 60 days.


The announcement comes after another Chinese company, China Telecom, had its licence to operate in the US revoked in October.

 
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said it had voted unanimously to revoke authorisation for the company’s American unit to operate in the US.


FCC chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement: “There has been mounting evidence – and with it, a growing concern – that Chinese state-owned carriers pose a real threat to the security of our telecommunications networks.”


Responding, China Unicom said its American unit “has a good record of complying with relevant US laws and regulations and providing telecommunication services and solutions as a reliable partner of its customers in the past two decades”.


“China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited will closely follow the development of the situation,” it added.

Chinese technology and telecoms companies, have been targeted in recent years by US authorities over national security concerns.

In November, President Joe Biden signed a new legislation that stops companies judged to be a security threat from receiving new telecoms equipment licences.


Under the new law called the Secure Equipment Act, the FCC should no longer review applications from companies the US see as a threat.

The law means that equipments from Huawei, ZTE and three other Chinese companies cannot be used in US telecoms networks.


According to the Pentagon, some of the Chinese firms are helping develop the Chinese military’s quantum computing programme.


US officials said the Chinese government’s control of the company gave it the opportunity “to access, store, disrupt, and/or misroute US communications”.


This in turn could allow it “to engage in espionage and other harmful activities against the US”, they said.

Starving families in Afghanistan are not only selling children, but have now been pushed into sell their organs to survive.

Thousands of US and UK troops pulled out of the South Asian country in August after a 20-year-long military mission, paving the way for a violent takeover from the Taliban.

Six months into the new regime, the economy has been ‘paralysed’, and over half a million people have lost their jobs, forcing many to sell their kidneys and even their children.

One family, including three brothers and two sisters, all underwent surgery and sold their organs for around £1,150 each in order to feed their relatives.

Both she and her husband have already sold their kidneys and are now facing the unthinkable choice of which of their eight children to sell.

He said: ‘We have nothing left to sell. We have to sell our children now and I’m prepared to do this for even 20,000 Afghanis (about £150 or $200).

One teenage mother, who said she had been operated on about a month ago, said: ‘We have no choice. We do this to feed our children.’

More than half of the country’s estimated 40 million population faces ‘extreme levels of hunger, and nearly nine million of them are at risk of famine’, according to the UN refugee agency, UNHCR.

International funding to Afghanistan has been suspended and billions of dollars of the country’s assets abroad, mostly in the US, were frozen after the militants regained control of the government.

Ramin Behzad, of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for Afghanistan stressed the situation is ‘critical and immediate support for stabilisation and recovery is required’.

He continued: ‘While the priority is to meet immediate humanitarian needs, lasting and inclusive recovery will depend on people and communities having access to decent employment, livelihoods, and basic services.’

ILO also expects that by the middle of this year, job losses will increase to nearly 700,000.

Kid saves the whole family from fire by waking his parents who lost their sense of smell from COVID-19

A 2-year-old boy has been praised as a hero after saving his family from fire by waking his parents who were unaware of the smoke because they had lost their sense smell due to the coronavirus, in the middle of the night.

Nathan, 33, and Kayla Dahl, 28, who lost their sense of smell and taste after suffering from Covid-19,  did not wake to the smell of smoke and their fire alarms did not go off. 

Their son Brandon who was sleeping in the living room, woke to the smoke and flames and got his mother to wake up.

Kayla told Good Morning America; 

‘He tapped me on my feet in bed and was coughing and saying, “Mama, hot. Mama, hot.

 ‘I turned around. I looked and all I saw was flames in the doorway.’

The parents quickly woke up and got their five children out of the burning home. ‘She’s screaming, “Fire! Fire! Fire!”‘ Nathan said. ‘My initial thought was, “OK, I’m going to get up and I’m going to get to work.”‘

He added: ‘We had seconds. It’s nothing short of a miracle.’ A volunteer firefighter for six years, Nathan had taught his children what to do in the event of a fire, in particular not touch anything while trying to escape.

The father said that none of the smoke alarms in their home in Alvord, Texas, sounded.

Nathan told WFAA; 

‘We had brand new, less than a year old, smoke alarms in our house. None of them went off.’

Once outside, the family watched the inferno destroy their home, as well as their two cars. Nathan said; 

‘About maybe a minute after we got out of the house, our front door had flames coming out of it.

‘Everything was in flames.’

Kayla lamented that ‘everything was gone’ inside her home and that she lost her car. But she was grateful for her young son’s heroic act.

She said; 

‘Brandon saved us.

‘He saved our entire family. I mean, he’s our little mini hero.’

Juruma leaves court today, finally bailed

Aphrodisiac seller Hauwa Saidu, better known as Jaruma, was granted bail earlier today by an Upper area Court in Zuba, Abuja.


Jaruma who has been in detention at the Suleja correctional center was dragged before the court by billionaire businessman, Ned Nwoko, on a four-count charge of defamation of character, criminal intimidation, injurious falsehood, and publishing falsehood to incite the public to hate him.

Nigerian Customs intercepts cocaine worth over N3.9billion in bus conveying religious books

Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service attached to the Seme Area Command have seized cocaine worth N3.9billion.

A statement released by the spokesperson for the command, Hussain Abdullahi, says the hard drugs weighing 11.913 kilogrammes were discovered in a bus conveying religious books. According to the statement, a sizeable amount of petroleum products packaged in sacks were also intercepted by the operatives.

The statement reads

“The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has initiated offensive patrol against the smuggling of petroleum products along the creeks within the Seme and Badagry axis. This renewed effort led to the interception of large quantities of petroleum products packaged in sacks on Wednesday, 26 January 2022.

The aforementioned items were successfully evacuated to the command premises where an examination was conducted. 1,065 jerrycans of petroleum products, equivalent to 31,950 litres were discovered with a Duty Paid Value of N10,041,198.

In the same vein, officers and men of the command while conducting stop and search along Seme-Badagry Expressway intercepted 11 parcels of substance suspected to be cocaine in a Ford Transit bus conveying religious books. Also, one suspect has been arrested in connection with the seizure.

While showcasing the seizure, the Customs Area Controller, Mr Bello Mohammed Jibo, explained that the substance was intercepted at about 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 23.

Consequently, the substance was subjected to test and verification by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and was found to be cocaine weighing 11.913kg.”

A mortuary where bodies of kidnap victims are reportedly kept has been uncovered inside Elele-Alimini General Hospital in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The hospital, where the ‘illegal’ mortuary is located is said to have been abandoned for years.

The chairman of the local government, Chidi Lloyd, and some security operatives raided the mortuary on Wednesday January 26. They discovered human remains in a pitiable condition in the ramshackle facility.

How to Overcome challenges

That everything happens for a purpose is a statement of fact though one might not be opportune to know the exact cause or reason for what happened when it did but at the fullness of time, the real essence for that would manifest.

Certain things happen that can challenge one’s faith and question the need for moral uprightness. Some things can become tough challenges with the propensity to bring about doubt in one’s position. At such instances emotional instability might set in, producing some state of uneasiness, confusion, sleeplessness, worries and fear which many have fallen victim to!

When the unexpected happens, on the negative path, one may succumb to emotions and shed tears. Under such conditions, stark reality would triumph over theoretical fabrication that emotional maturity could give way to emotional breakdown. This is what happens when you see a man crying like a baby as he could not understand why such fate should befall him. Well, it is part of the challenges of life.

Challenge is a necessity in life – and to live fully, one would encounter more challenges and possibly tougher ones. In other words, being cautious and treading always with care cannot insulate one from problems. Certain things are beyond human understanding and control.

Problem is an integral part of the living process. Whether we like it or not, with or without our consent, problems would come but embraced with a winner’s mindset, they have ways of bringing out the best in us. And the bitter truth is that we need problems to grow and maximize our potential.

Trouble has a way of leading into the other path of discovery. A troubled mind can think zigzagly and sometimes act irrationally but such behavior could bring about a total turn around. The end of a conscious mood swing can bring about an unexpected radical consciousness for an uncommon breakthrough. At tough times, tough people think abnormally and come out with something new. It pays to become tougher to handle and solve tough challenges. To become great, develop the attitude to demystify the mystery and the myth of troubles.

Be prepared and expectant. Welcome every eventuality, and then go out to turn it around for good. It is your determination that will define your work and it is your work that can design a glorious life for you. Engage yourself. Work the work.

In every circumstance, motivate yourself and look for the best. Be a source of inspiration and inspire yourself too. Don’t take ‘No’ for an answer even if it is the only option. Don’t succumb to intimidation or give in to their gang up. If you look deep, you will see the rays of light even in the darkest of darkness.

Cry when it is inevitable but at the end, pick up the pieces and move on. Being alive is proof that you can overcome that seemingly impossibility. Just try without giving up. Keep pushing without looking back. Every effort produces results. That challenge may be the best thing that ever happened to you so embrace it.

When you become an object for public attack, may be out of complex or sheer envy, don’t lose focus instead be encouraged and do more. It is because you do what they cannot imagine or think of that they attack you. Growth brings about opposition; success attracts envy.

Funny as it may sound, you are not just the prayer point of some people but you continually remain the agendum for their secret meetings. However, as long as your hands are clean, any person or group of persons that gang up against you will go down into the bottomless pit and anyone that digs a pit for you will be buried in that same pit. They will live miserably and beg to die for as they cut short the flow of someone’s prosperity so will their lives be cut short. Nothing they do will prosper.

Were you to receive what you wished for others, what would have been your wishes? Treated the way you treat others, how would you feel? Think right. Keep your focus. Act right. However tempting, don’t use evil to fight another evil. The consequences may be much.

The people will continue to suffer whose members sabotage their collective efforts for selfish reasons, but the ones with a penchant for betrayal will bear the worst loss.

Resolve to see setbacks as opportunities and you will have cause to triumph over challenges, however, daunting or difficult such may be. Be a goal-getter.

In genuine pursuit of your ambition, may you not suffer the consequences of what you know nothing about, and may Nature fight for you when they gang up against you!

Regina Daniels releases her own side of her story on social media after Jaruma’s arrest

Regina Daniels has issued a statement addressing her dealings with Jaruma and what went wrong between them.

Regina explained that she and Jaruma had an agreement for her to advertise her products, which she did, but Jaruma then wanted her to go beyond their agreement by posting things which were “deceitful” on her page.

Regina said she disagreed and when there was a “major crisis” going on in her family, Jaruma took advantage of that to promote her products at the expense of the Nwoko family.

Regina also shared chats where she blasted Jaruma for claiming her use of kayanmata on Ned caused the problem between him and his Moroccan wife.

TMZ also noted that Kim met with other high-profile figures earlier in the week.

On Monday, the reality star was seen dining at Los Angeles’ Hot & Cool Cafe with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea Clinton.

1999 Constitution Amendment: A bill seeking to confer citizenship on foreigners who marry Nigerian women in process..

A bill seeking to confer citizenship rights on foreigners married to Nigerian women has been adopted by a committee of the House of Representatives established to amend the 1999 constitution.

The committee which adopted the bill after a presentation by consultants working with them on amendment of the constitution, had also agreed to creation of extra seats for women in federal and states constituencies, though the 35 per cent affirmative action was rejected.

One of the consultants, Joy Ezeilo noted that the Nigerian constitution is discriminatory to women as it only only allows citizenship by registration to be conferred on foreigners married to Nigerian men.

Ezeilo added that the bill seeks to amend section26 (2a) of the 1999 Constitution by opening citizenship by registration to male and female.

Chairman of the Committee and  Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase who called for more clarification on the specifics regarding the bill, averred that there are differences in culture as regards the rights of spouses in Nigeria.

He said; 

“Even within the context of our culture, I want to give an example of Idoma culture, you can only bury an Idoma woman in her homeland. In this age, we have a lot of attachment to our culture.”

Expressing concern on the conferment of automatic citizenship on foreigners based on marriage, the deputy speaker argued that Nigerian citizenship should be guarded jealously.

Responding to this, Ezeilo stated that citizenship is not automatic, as the bill only seeks to replace “any woman” with “any person”, which according to her is discriminatory.

Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu also raised concerns about the bill. According to him, such a bill could confer rights to vote and be voted for on foreigners.

Elumelu said; 

“What I was saying is– if we are going to agree to that provision, what about, for instance, somebody from Taraba State is married to a woman from Delta or Abia. Can that man from Taraba come down to Abia to contest? We should include it… If we are allowing the husband to come from abroad and claim citizenship.”

The bill was adopted by the lawmakers despite the concern raised. Its passage by both chambers of the National Assembly, will need the approval of at least 24 of the 36 state legislatures and presidential assent

The president says that his utmost intention was to encourage them, having understood that building teams take time.

“Latest on Guinea President Mamady Doumbouya has forgiven the team. Says his ultimatum was just to encourage them. He understands team building takes time.

A 19 year old Aerospace engineering student, Jack Sweeney, has rejected an offer of $5000 from the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.

Sweeney, a student at the University of Central Florida created a twitter bot that helps track the location and movement of private jets used by billionaires. The sophisticated bot matches data from several public sources to identify planes.

Musk messaged Sweeney offering him  $5,000 to delete the bot account over security concerns but the college freshman refused, asking the billionaire for an internship instead at either Tesla or SpaceX.

Sweeney, who is studying information technology, created 15 Twitter bots tracking the private planes of tech billionaires including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos – but the account tracking Musk’s jet is by far the most popular, with 88,000 followers.


Although the information Sweeney uses is all public, his program requires sophisticated knowledge to match transponder frequencies with separately available anonymous flight plans, according to Protocol, which first reported the saga.


The popularity of the twitter bot named @ElonJet appears to have made Musk uncomfortable.

Indian family found frozen to death near US-Canada border

The Canadian authorities have confirmed the identity of the family of four found frozen to death in a field at Emerson, Manitoba, near the US-Canada border. 

Bodies of Jagdishkumar Patel, 39; his wife Vaishaliben Patel, 37 and their children, Vihangi Patel, 11; and Dharmik Patel, 3, were discovered in the field on January 19, 2022. 

The Patel family had migrated from Dingucha village in Gujarat, India. 

According to a statement from Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the autopsies of the four were done on January 26 by Manitoba’s chief medical examiner who confirmed that the cause of death was due to exposure to extreme weather conditions.

“We can confirm that on January 12, 2022, the Patel family arrived in Toronto, Canada. From Toronto, the family made their way to Emerson on, or about, January 18, 2022,” the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said on their website. 

Since a vehicle was not recovered, the family is believed to have been dropped off at the border, according to the police, who are trying to determine how the Patel family travelled from Toronto to Emerson.

“With what we know so far of their activities in Canada, along with the arrest that occurred in the United States, we believe this to be a case of human smuggling,” they said.

The authorities are looking for anyone who might have encountered the family.

Seven Indians were picked up by U.S. border forces on Wednesday last week and are in various stages of removal proceedings, U.S. Customs and Border Protection had told The Hindu.

A criminal complaint was filed last week in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota against 47-year old US citizen Steve Shand, who has been charged with human smuggling. 

Meanwhile, India’s High Commission in Ottawa, Canada said in a press release, which also identified the four victims, that the next of kin of the deceased have been informed.

The Consulate General of India in Toronto is in touch with the family of the deceased and is providing all consular support.

75% of Nigerian women use skin bleaching creams more than most Africans

Nigeria women have been ranked as the highest users of skin-whitening creams on the African continent.

The data was taken from the International Journal of women’s Dermatology and published by CNN. It shows that 75 per cent of women in Nigeria use skin-whitening products.

Nigeria is closely followed by Senegal at 60 per cent, Mali at 50 per cent and Ghana at 30 per cent.

Skin whitening is the use of cosmetic products or services to reduce the amount of melanin, or pigment, in the skin to make it appear lighter.

Skin whitening products often contain ingredients that are toxic when used cosmetically for long durations and without medical guidance as they have the ability not just to damage your skin but cause life-threatening ailments.

Skin whitening is a big industry and predominantly targets women of color in every region of the world, with the Asia-Pacific region being the most lucrative, according to a CNN report.

The report revealed that on the global stage, the Asia-Pacific market accounted for over half of the worldwide revenue in 2018 from skin whitening products. Meanwhile, China is among the fastest-growing markets globally.

Lighter skin has long been linked to wealth and status. Experts blame colonialism, slavery and globalization for this perception.

The report adds that colorism and light-skin privilege have led to disparities in every region of the world, in everything from social treatment to marriageability, education, employment and even, in the US, prison sentencing.

A Nigerian man and his accomplice have been arrested with 23 gram cocaine valued at Rs 4.6 lakhs in Pune, India

The suspects, Chukwujekwu Reuben who currently resides in Nalasopara, Thane district and his accomplice Mohammad Musavi,38, a resident of Padamji Park, New Nana Peth, were arrested by officials from Lashkar police station, Pune city police.

Musavi, a social media fitness influencer has a base of several thousand followers on social media platforms and also has videos with some known Bollywood actors.

Police have seized cocaine, two four-wheelers and two mobile phones, totally worth Rs 15.29 lakh from the accused. 

A team comprising Senior Police Inspector Ashok Kadam and PSI Akshay Sonawane were on night patrol duty when they intercepted the accused around 3.15 am on Monday, along Synagogue Street Road in Camp.

“We found them lurking suspiciously together and questioned them. The cocaine was found in their possession. Initially we got one day police custody. But it was increased by five days on Sunday. We will know more from their whereabouts in Mumbai and Pune,” said senior police inspector Ashok Kadam of Lashkar police station of Pune. 

“They both had drugs on them. Musavi is a well known fitness trainer and a body builder. We needed more time to search their places as the Nigerian national was found to have been selling the narcotic,” said Police sub-inspector Nilesh Mahadik of Lashkar police station who is part of the investigating team

“Reuben came to Pune to sell drugs. He had come to India on a business visa.” Inspector Kadam told journalist. 

“We have registered a case for offences under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.” he added. 

A court has remanded the accused to five days in police custody for further investigation.

The investigation is being carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Rajendra Dahale, DCP (Zone 1) Priyanka Naranware, DCP (Zone 2) Sagar Patil and ACP (Lashkar division) Yashwant Gawari.

Trump, America’s 45th president revealed his dream to be the country’s 47th President, as Joe Biden is the 46th president.


The billionaire businessman made the declaration on Wednesday, January 26 while playing golf at one of his golf resorts.

In the video,Trump was walking to the first tee when one of the people he was playing with said, ‘Now on the tee, the 45th president of the United States’.

Trump, wearing his trademark ‘Make America Great Again’ cap with ’45’, stood up after setting the golf ball and the took a walk around and then interjected the person as he said confidently ‘The 45th and 47th,’ 


The ex-president’s playing partners can be heard cheering to his remark and one of them says, ‘Yes, I love that!’

Super Eagles forward, Samuel Kalu has completed his switch to the Premier League with Watford from Ligue 1 side, FC Girondins de Bordeaux. 

The Premier League side announced the deal that will last till June 2025 on its website.

He is the Hornets fourth signing of the January window following the arrival of full-back Hassane Kamara, central defender Samir, and midfielder Edo Kayembe .

Vladimir’s Putin’s demand to bar Ukraine from joining NATO rejected by the US

The United States has rejected Russian president, Vladimir Putin’s demand to bar Ukraine from ever joining Transatlantic military alliance,  NATO, amid fears Russia wants to invade Ukraine, it’s neighbor.

Russia had issued a written list of its concerns about the expansion of the Nato military alliance and related security issues.


Among them was a demand for Nato to rule out the possibility of Ukraine and others ever joining the alliance.


In recent weeks, Russia has been amassing over hundred thousand troops on the Ukraine border – something which Western countries have seen as preparation for a possible invasion. But Russia denies it wants to invade rather claiming Russia is threatened by Ukraine.

Now the US, on behalf of NATO has responded to Russia’s demands.


Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the US will give Russia no concessions but said that he was offering Russia “a serious diplomatic path forward, should Russia choose it”.


According to Blinken the US is ready for whatever Russia decides to do, – an invasion or diplomacy.

Blinken said the US response made its “core principles” clear, including Ukraine’s sovereignty and its right to choose to be part of security alliances such as Nato.


“There should be no doubt about our seriousness of purpose when it comes to diplomacy, and we’re acting with equal focus and force to bolster Ukraine’s defences and prepare a swift united response to further Russian aggression,” he said.


“It remains up to Russia to decide how to respond,” he added. “We’re ready either way.”


The secretary of state said the US had sent three shipments of military “assistance” this week – including Javelin missiles and anti-armour weaponry, along with hundreds of tonnes of ammunition and equipment.


Russia’s foreign ministry says thr country would study Blinken’s response, delivered in coordination with Nato.


Blinken also denied any rift or difference of opinion between the US and its European allies such as Germany , Italy and France who are very dependent on Russia for energy and gas supplies. Nato, he said, had prepared its own set of proposals which “fully reinforces ours and vice versa”.


But Blinken said the US document stating its reply to Russia will not be made public.


“Diplomacy has the best chance to succeed if we provide space for confidential talks,” the Secretary of State said.


Nato Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance’s document had also been delivered to Moscow, and while he was willing to listen to Russia’s concerns, all nations havs the right to choose their own security arrangements.


In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said Stoltenberg had “lost touch with reality”.


“You know, I stopped taking any view of his statements a long time ago,” Lavrov told the press in Russian parliament, which were broadcast live on social media.

Joe Biden’s Govt. nominates the first black woman to Supreme Court

US President Joe Biden will honour his electoral promise to make an African-American woman his first nomination to the Supreme Court, the White House has said.

This comes as Biden has been handed the unforeseen opportunity to nominate his own Judge to the US Supreme court after it was revealed on Wednesday, January 26 that liberal justice, Stephen Breyer will retire at the end of the current Supreme Court term in June.

Though Breyer’s retirement plans are yet to be officially confirmed, Biden has already shortlisted possible candidates although Justice Breyer’s replacement would not shift the court’s current 6-3 conservative majority.

The Supreme Court plays a key role in American life and is often the final word on highly contentious laws, disputes between states and the federal government, and final appeals to stay executions.

Each of the nine judges – known as justices serves a lifetime appointment after being nominated by the president and approved by the Senate.

Only two African Americans – both men – have ever served on the court: Justice Thurgood Marshall from 1967 to 1991 and his successor Justice Clarence Thomas, who is set to become the oldest member on the bench at age 73.

Ketanji Brown Jackson, 51, a former law clerk to Mr Breyer, is reportedly a top contender for the job.

Joe Biden to make history as he nominates first black woman to Supreme Court

The last Supreme Court vacancy came in 2020, when liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died at age 87. Former President Donald Trump was able to appoint her successor, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, less than two months before the US presidential election.

“The president has stated and reiterated his commitment to nominating a black woman to the Supreme Court and certainly stands by that,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told a news conference.

President Biden and Justice Breyer are to appear together at a news conference on Thursday, January 27 where the retirement will be confirmed.

Nigerian Police Service Commission orders more probe into Kyari’s link to Hushpuppi again

The Police Service Commission has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to deepen investigations into the connection between Abba Kyari, the suspended head of the Intelligence Response Team, and suspected internet fraudster, Abbas Ramon, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

Kyari had been suspended in July 2021 for alleged involvement in a $1.1 million Internet fraud allegedly perpetrated by Hushpuppi and four others; AbdulRahman  Juma (Abdul); Vincent Chibuzo (Kelly); Rukayat Fashola (Morayo); and Bolatito Agbabiaka (Bolamide). The Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI had in its report alleged that Hushpuppi paid $20,600 to two bank accounts allegedly provided by Kyari on January 20, 2020. When summoned by the police hierarchy, Kyari denied any wrongdoing.

Acting on a piece of advice given by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, the PSC gave the IG two weeks to turn in the report which would be reviewed by the PSC Standing Committee on Discipline.

Punch reports that the AGF had told the PSC that more investigations needed to be carried out on any link between Kyari and Hushpuppi as the facts contained in the police investigation report were not strong enough to convict Kyari.

The final report is expected to return to the standing committee which will review and send recommendations to the plenary where the final decision on Kyari will be taken.

Meanwhile, Hushpuppi will be sentenced in the U.S on February 14.

IOC confirms talking with Peng Shuai after her disappearance

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has held talks with Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai and has arranged to meet her in Beijing next month.
 

Back in November, the two-time Grand Slam doubles champion took to social media site Weibo to make allegations against the country’s former Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli.

Peng, 36, claimed that he had “forced” her to have sexual relations with him, although the post was later deleted before she duly disappeared for around three weeks without trace.

She has since denied making the allegations altogether in an interview with Singapore media outlet Lianhe Zaobao, saying: “I need to stress one point that is extremely important, I have never said or written that anyone has sexually assaulted me, I have to clearly stress this point.”

Concern over her situation prompted the WTA to suspend all tournaments in China until further notice.

Last November, the IOC claimed that, Peng had spoken to Thomas Bach, Emma Terho, and Li Lingwei via a video call and said she “is safe and well, living at her home in Beijing, but would like to have her privacy respected at this time.”

They didn’t release the clip, but have now revealed further contact with the tennis player last week, as well as plans to meet her in Beijing during next month’s Winter Olympics.

An IOC spokesperson said: “Since the first call that the IOC held with Peng Shuai on November 21, 2021, the IOC team has kept in touch with her and had a number of conversations with her, the last one just the past week.”

There was a security breach at the domestic terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos, as a Boeing 737-73V, with registration number EI-ULN, belonging to Arik Air was burgled and its Flight Management System, stolen.

The FMS is a computer designed to provide virtual data and operational harmony between closed and open elements associated with a flight from pre-engine start and take-off, to landing and engine shutdown.

Sun Newspaper reports that a source at the airline said the theft took place in the late hours of Wednesday, January 19 to the early hours of Thursday, January 20 and this led to flights cancellations and postponement.

“The aircraft was parked inside the tarmac at MM2 and someone got access to the electorical electronic base where we have all the systems. There is a door underneath the aircraft where they opened and got access to remove the FMC and that was why we had obstruction in our operations that day.

It is expected that the CCTV should be on and capture whoever did it but we haven’t heard anything to that effect. That equipment that was stolen is small but it cost a lot of money. To repair it cost about $15,000 and a brand new one cost about $300,000 as at 2021.

Every item in an aeroplane has serial numbers and can be tracked anywhere in the world, so i don’t know how the thief intends selling it unless the person has a vendor. That is why we believe it is internal sabotage” a source said.
