Creating Hope? Why they are leaving Nigeria — By Tunde Leye

From my immediate University clique, another person is leaving Nigeria for America at the end of this month, with her family of three. Virtually every month for the last two years, I’ve gone to visit one person or the other who was making a similar move. In fact, one of them did this spreadsheet to show justify with numbers why he was moving his family to UK while remaining here to work until he made up his mind whether he would up and leave to join them as well.

When I asked most of them (who had decent jobs/businesses and were not doing badly) why they were leaving especially now that they had started families here, almost everyone had a similar answer. They were leaving mainly because of the lack of opportunity or the limited opportunities Nigeria presented for their children. They simply had lost hope that Nigeria had any plans for the future of their children even if they did their best educating those children here. Here’s two illustrations to buttress the point.

My daughter is 18months old and has only just started repeating words she hears us say, she’s really not talking yet. But she can count from 1 to 10, can operate every phone/tab in the house and had started finding her way around my laptop all because of cartoons, games and the likes she watches/plays on our smartphones. Close to my house is my estate gateman’s house. He also has an 18month old. The boy has never held a smartphone or accessed the internet, and has never been exposed to any of the learning my daughter has.

There is already a huge chasm between this boy and my daughter at 18months, which will only get wider as they grow older. Here’s the thing — as much as we will like not to admit it, a similar chasm exists between my kid and her cousins who are growing up in the UK who came visiting recently. Not because they are smarter than my daughter or have a different genetic makeup. It’s simply the fact that they are growing up in a society where what and how they are learning, the ideas they will be exposed to are radically different from what my daughter will be exposed to in all but the most expensive schools here in Nigeria.

Even if I can afford those really expensive schools, the larger Nigerian society she will come back into nko? I mean, her cousins, one 5 and the other 7 have visited manufacturing plants and actually seen machines most graduates who have never traveled have never seen or imagined. The 7 year old has used a 3D printer before. Uncle Tunde has never actually been in the same room with one. You get the drift.

And then, let’s look at the opportunities that our society presents if I try to get that really expensive education but we remain here. The other illustration I was going to give comes in here. Two children going to average universities, one in Nigeria, one in the UK or America. The one in the UK has the opportunity to intern with some of the best firms in the world and will probably have traveled and interacted with many global cultures and be exposed to the most brilliant ideas by the time she is graduating. She has a wide and varied field of interests which will pay her a viable income to chose from and any knowledge she discovers will quickly be applied to improve the system with real financial rewards for her.

The one here will be battling with lecturers and the Industrial Training fund people. She won’t even get to see what works in Kenya, not to talk of South Africa, except for the very top expensive schools. If she innovates, she will be failed and there are very few viable fields she can go into to get viable work. How can that Nigerian kid compete on the global scale? Related Posts

There is no significant difference in smarts. In fact, this illustration is from a Nigerian friend who did not finish her school in Nigeria and was call a dunce and then went to restart in the UK and has now interned with and traveled to some of the biggest firms in the world. She has jobs lined up for her once she graduates.

I have a friend who used to sing when we were in school. But her voice was very unconventional, cartoonish.

She kept at it, but there were no real opportunities for her in music here. So, resigned, she took up a job in some firm here, unhappy and unfulfilled even though she was earning quite decent money. Thankfully, she took the risk and relocated and now does voiceovers for animation abroad. I’m sure I’ll be hearing her singing soundtrack for some cartoons at some point in future.

Truth is, that opportunity simply doesn’t exist here. If she had stayed here, her options would have been closed and limited to “pressing computer” in a firm. She had to leave to achieve her potential. This is the story of Nigeria, made even more vivid as more and more people have lost hope in the future in the last two years.

So brings me back to the conversation I’m having with my friend who leaves June 30th.

She’s saying, “look Tunde, my own skill will pay me decently in America. And I’ll have a much better life. But the real reason I’m leaving is for these two (she points at her children). I need to make sure that all these their brains don’t go to waste. (She calls her first child’s name, he’s 9) can never be all I can see he has the potential to be here. I’m doing this more for them than for me. I don’t see things changing in the next 20years in this country, so why am I waiting here rather than giving my children a chance at a much better life?”

I sigh, and wonder how much longer before its me people are coming to bid farewell. I’m here for now, but until when?

Weird Man is found dead in his home surrounded by 125 caged snakes

A man has been discovered dead inside his home in Maryland, US alongside cages containing more than 125 snakes, including the highly venomous spitting cobras and black mambas.

David Riston, 49, a dad, was found dead at his home in Pomfret on Wednesday evening, January 19, surrounded by his caged pets – some of which are so dangerous they’re illegal to keep as pets in the United States.

Investigators are yet to say whether one of the snakes may have killed Riston.

Charles County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 5500 block of Rafael Drive in Pomfret at around 6pm on Wednesday night after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor, who said that he went to check on the homeowner, whom he had not seen since the day before, and saw him through a window lying unresponsive on the floor.

Inside the house, police officers found tanks on racks housing 125 snakes.

According to the sheriff’s office, there were no obvious signs of foul play and Riston was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Jennifer Harris, a spokesperson for Charles County Animal Control, told the station WRC-TV that the breeds included rattlesnakes, spitting cobras, black mambas – the most venomous snakes in Africa – and a 14-foot-long Burmese python.

Just two drops of a black mamba’s fast-acting venom can kill a human by shutting down the nervous system and inflicting paralysis while a spitting cobra can spray venom from its fangs into its victim’s eyes from 10 feet away, causing blindness. Both breeds are illegal to keep as pets in the US.

All the snakes in Riston’s home were well-cared for by their owner according to Police. Police had to assure neighbors that if any of the other snakes have escaped, the cold winter weather will kill them before they get very far.

Charles County Animal Control Chief Ed Tucker said this is the largest private collection of snakes he has ever encountered in his 30 year career

Naomi Osaka knocked out In 3rd round in Australian Open

Defending champion, Naomi Osaka has been knocked out of the  Australian Open after  Amanda Anisimova stunned her on Friday January 21, handed her a defeat.

The Japanese four-time Grand Slam champion, seeded 13, won the first set on Margaret Court Arena but Amanda, a 20-year-old American ranked 60th in the world beat Naomi 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) F

“I’m speechless, I can’t stop smiling,” said the 20-year-old, who is undefeated this year after winning a lead-up tournament in Melbourne.

“I knew I had to be playing sharp if I wanted to give myself a chance. Naomi is always going to be playing well, she is an absolute champion.

“So I really had to step up my game and try to be aggressive. That’s what I started doing in the second set and so grateful I was able to do this well today and get the win. It means a lot.”

It’s the fourth time Osaka has been unable to defend a major title, and the 11th time in a Grand Slam she has been knocked out in the third round, including last year’s U.S. Open.

Buhari Orders EFCC To Arrest Airforce Officers Who Purchased Outdated Helicopters.

Based on the recommendation of the committee established to audit the procurement of arms and equipment in the Armed Forces and Defence sector from 2007 to 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out further investigation into the misconduct established against some past and serving top Airforce and Army officers.

The affected officership who are seventeen in number were found culpable in using their private companies to purchase arms and equipment between 2007 and 2015 during the PDP administration.

“The breaches identified by the Audit Committee include non-specification of procurement costs, absence of contract agreements, award of contracts beyond authorised thresholds, transfer of public funds for unidentified purposes and general non-adherence to provisions of the Public Procurement Act.

“Furthermore, the procurement processes were arbitrarily carried out and generally characterized by irregularities and fraud.

“In many cases, the procured items failed to meet the purposes they were procured for, especially the counter insurgency efforts in the North East.

“A major procurement activity undertaken by ONSA for NAF was that concerning the contracts awarded to Societe D’ Equipment Internationaux (SEI) Nig Ltd.

Between January 2014 and February 2015, NAF awarded 10 contracts totalling Nine Hundred and Thirty Million, Five Hundred Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety US Dollars ($930,500,690.00) to SEI Nig Ltd.

“Letters of award and End User Certificates for all the contracts issued by NAF and ONSA respectively did not reflect the contract sums.

Rather, these were only found in the vendor’s invoices, all dated 19 March 2015. Additionally, some of the award letters contained misleading delivery dates suggesting fraudulent intent in the award process.

“The observed discrepancies are in clear contravention of extant procurement regulations.

The SEI contracts included procurement of two used Mi-24V Helicopters instead of the recommended Mi-35M series at the cost of One Hundred and Thirty Six Million, Nine Hundred and Forty Four Thousand US Dollars ($136,944,000.00).

“However, it was confirmed that the helicopters were excessively priced and not operationally air worthy at the time of delivery.

A brand new unit of such helicopters goes for about Thirty Million US Dollars ($30m). Furthermore, the helicopters were delivered without rotor blades and upgrade accessories.

“Additionally, the helicopters were undergoing upgrade while being deployed for operation in the North East without proper documentation.

It was further established that as at date, only one of the helicopters is in service while the other crashed and claimed the lives of two NAF personnel. Related Posts

“The Committee established that ONSA also funded the procurement of 4 used Alpha-Jets for the NAF at the cost of Seven Million, One Hundred and Eighty Thousand US Dollars ($7,180,000.00). However, it was confirmed that only 2 of the Alpha-Jet aircraft were ferried to Nigeria after cannibalization of engines from NAF fleet.

This is contrary to the written assertion of the former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal AN Amosu to the former NSA that all the 4 procured Alpha-Jets aircraft were delivered to the NAF.

“The non-militarisation of the Alpha-Jets made them unsuitable for deployment to the North East and they are currently deployed only for training at NAF Kainji.
Furthermore, the procurement of the Alpha-Jets was contrary to the recommendation of the assessment team.

The Committee found that the conduct of Air Marshal Amosu was deliberately misleading and unpatriotic.

“The contract for the procurement of 36D6 Low Level Air Defence Radar for the NAF was awarded to GAT Techno Dynamics Ltd in April 2014 at the cost of Thirty Three Million US Dollars ($33m) and was funded by ONSA.

The Committee established that the radars were excessively priced as a complete set of such radars (comprising 6 radars including the Control Centre) goes for Six Million US Dollars ($6m) averagely.

“The Committee observed that the radars were delivered without the vital component of Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) that distinguishes between own and adversary aircraft, which has significantly degraded the operational capabilities of the NAF in the North East.

“It was further observed that the sum of Three Million, Three Hundred Thousand US Dollars ($3.3m) was fraudulently included in the contract agreement as VAT and With Holding Tax and subsequently paid into the bank accounts of Spacewebs Interservices Ltd and Delfina Oil and Gas Ltd.

The Committee further established that Two Million US Dollars ($2m) from the proceeds was transferred to Mono Marine Corporation Nig Ltd, which is jointly owned by principal characters in this deal. The Committee opined that the infractions of extant regulations by these companies were clearly intended to defraud.

It was established that between September 2009 and May 2015, the NAF expended about Fifteen Billion Naira (N15bn) on the maintenance of its Alpha-Jets, C-130H aircraft and Mi-24V/35P helicopters. Out of this amount, Four Billion, Four Hundred and Two Million, Six Hundred and Eighty Seven Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty Nine Naira, Forty One Kobo (N4,402,687,569.41) was paid out for contracts not executed.

It was also observed that in carrying out these maintenance activities, contracts worth over Two Billion, Five Hundred Million Naira (N2.5bn) were awarded to Syrius Technologies, a Ukrainian company that was not registered in Nigeria. Regrettably, in spite of these expenditures, the status of NAF fleet remained operationally appalling as only 3 Alpha-Jets, 2 C-130H and one each of Mi-24V and Mi-35P were serviceable as at 28 May 15.
In October 2013, NAF awarded contracts to DICON for the supply of weapons and ammunition at the cost of Five Hundred and Ninety Nine Million, One Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira (N599,118,000.00). However, only 2 of the 7 items contracted were delivered to NAF while the outstanding 5 items remained undelivered despite repeated requests to DICON.

The Committee also found that the delivered ammunition were about 40 years old, thereby casting doubts on their shelf life. The failure of DICON to fully execute the contract and the delivery of aged ammunition diminished the capacity of the NAF in North East operation.

“The Committee uncovered insider dealings by military officers in procurement activities undertaken by ONSA and the NAF.

The officers were found to have misused or abused their offices for personal gains by influencing award of contracts to private companies in which they have substantial interests.

“For instance, an officer serving in the ONSA used his office to secure 2 contracts for his company, Geonel Integrated Services Ltd, for the protection of 20 Dams and Presidential Air Fleet security at the cost of Six Billion, Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N6,250,000,000.00) and Five Million US Dollars ($5m) respectively.

“Furthermore, some NAF officers used their companies to collect VAT and With Holding Tax that were never remitted to FIRS while another officer was found to have cross transferred about Five Hundred Million Naira (N500m) between a NAF company, Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services Limited, SkyExperts Nig Ltd and Huzee Nig Ltd, companies in which he had personal interests.

“It would be recalled that in its First Interim Report, the Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment established that the sum of Six Hundred and Forty Three Billion Naira (N643bn) and Two Billion, One Hundred Million US Dollars ($2.1bn) interventions were received for defence procurements by DHQ and the Services between 2007 and 2015

In continuation of its assignment, the Committee has so far established that the nation spent about Twenty Nine Billion Naira (N29bn) and Two Billion US Dollars ($2bn) on NAF procurement activities alone.

Ex-convict kills wife’s lover in Imo forest for having affair with her while he was in jail

A 35-year-old ex-convict, Onyekachi Alozie and his wife, Oluchi, alongside another ex-convict, Agubata Maxwell Chimezie, 39, have been arrested over alleged kidnapped, murdered and setting ablaze of a 71-year-old man, Chief Precious Okorie in Imo state.

The gang was said to have accused Okorie of having an amorous relationship with Alozie’s wife, Oluchi, while the husband was serving a jail term at the Nigeria Correction Centre, Owerri.

Okorie was killed after his family, who had been asked to pay a N20million ransom, paid N1.5million to the gang in the forest at Ochiogwa in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Hussain Rabiu, who disclosed this said the deceased family members reported to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad after Okorie was kidnapped on November 12, 2021.

CP Rabiu ordered the commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Oladimeji Oyeyiyewa, and his operatives to swing into action after which they subsequently arrested the gang leader, Agubata Maxwell Chimezie a.k.a “the boss” on December 10, 2021.

Oluchi was picked up on December 20 while her husband was arrested on January 10, 2022 in Owerri.

Alozie, who was said to have allegedly masterminded the kidnapping and murder of Okorie, took the police operatives and family members of the victim to the forest where they saw the burnt body of the deceased.

According to Oyeyiyewa, the operatives recovered the late Okorie’s car, a Toyota Camry from the workshop of an auto painter through the gang leader, who had taken the car for repaint and later sold it for N1million.

Explaining her involvement in the alleged crime to newsmen Oluchi said, “I attended Comprehensive Secondary school at Mbaitoli and got married to Onyekachi Alozie six years ago. I have three children for him. I was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping operatives on December 20,2021 in my sister’s house in Owerri over the death of Chief Precious Okorie.

“My husband, Onyenkachi, was arrested by the Department of State Services for kidnapping, and he has been detained at the Nigeria Correction Centre since 2018. It was then that I started having an affair with late Chief Okorie in a hotel. We dated for about three years. The late Chief Okorie had been assisting me and would sometimes give me N5,000 or N10,000 for the upkeep of my children. I saw hell while my husband was in prison. It was that money from Chief Okorie that I used to buy foodstuff and prepare food for my husband at the Nigeria Correction Centre, Owerri. When my husband was released from jail in July, 2021, I told him about Chief Okorie, that he was helping us when he was at the Nigeria Correction Centre in Owerri.

“It was when I was having a phone conversation with Chief Okorie that my husband heard everything about how the deceased wanted to see me. My husband got angry and forced me to call him back. The next day, my husband insisted that I should call Chief Okorie around 3.00 pm and threatened that if I didn’t call him, he would kill me. I had to call Chief Okorie and told him to meet me at the hotel, that I would join him soon.

“While he was on his way to the hotel, my husband and his gang member waylaid and kidnapped him. Whenever I asked my husband about the chief, he would warn me to shut up and threaten to kill me. He told me to carry the three children and ran to the village. That was how I was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping operatives. I don’t know how my husband and his gang killed Chief Okorie.”

Alozie, who confessed to the alleged kidnapping and killing said, “I attended Daughter of Mary Mother Mercy Primary School, Aba and proceeded to Amache Boy Secondary School in Anambra State. I am an electrician by profession. Later I went into armed robbery and kidnapping. I went to the Nigeria Correction Centre twice over kidnapping cases. I was detained at the Nigeria Correction Centre after I was arrested and prosecuted by DSS operatives in 2018. I was discharged by an Nkwerre High Court and released from prison in 2021.

“I have been involved in several armed robberies and various kidnapping in Owerri, Imo State. When I was at the Nigeria Correction Centre, my wife Oluchi was visiting me and bringing food. I didn’t suspect her with late Chief Okorie. She only told me Okorie was a Good Samaritan. Then one day, I overheard their conversation on phone, where Okorie was saying he was eager to see my wife. I was angry and forced my wife to call the deceased to see her in the hotel. My wife has confessed to me that she has been having a sexual relationship with the 71-year-old man in the hotel.

“I threatened to kill my wife, and so she called him back and told him to wait for her in the hotel. I then arranged for him to be kidnapped. My gang leader, Agubata Chimezie a.k.a “the boss” kidnapped Chief Okorie in his car and took him to the forest. I demanded a ransom of N20million but the family members paid only N1.5m as ransom.

“Agubata Chimezie said I should carry the deceased’s car, a Toyota Camry and meet them at Irate and we drove to a hotel in Owerri where the gang leader collected the deceased’s car and sold it for one million naira. He gave us N290,000 from the proceeds of the car sales. I didn’t know how they killed late Chief Okorie and how they burnt his dead body. It was some of our gang members who did the job. The N1.5m ransom collected from the deceased’s family members, they didn’t give me anything as my share. It was the second time that they were demanding another ransom from the deceased’s family member that they promised to give me a share.”

The alleged gang leader, Chimezie, also said, “I attended Unity Primary School Amaigbo, and proceeded to Tick Tiger Memorial Secondary School Amaigbo, Imo State. I studied Nursing and graduated in 2007. I did my NYSC in Yobe State in 2007/2008. I practised and have a shop for pharmaceuticals where I sell drugs and treat patients. I am married and have five children. I have been involved in several armed robberies and kidnapping. I knew Onyekachi Alozie when he left the Nigeria Correction Centre and he used to meet me in my restaurant. It was there we started the armed robbery and kidnapping business.

“It is true that Onyekachi called me about the possible kidnap of Chief Okorie, who was sleeping with his wife, Oluchi when he was at Nigeria Correction Centre. I have been detained twice at the Nigeria Correction Centre in Owerri for child trafficking. I ran an illegal orphanage then. I met Onyekachi at the Nigeria Correction Centre. He sent Chief Okorie’s number to me and we arranged the kidnap with our gang members. We kidnapped him while the deceased was going towards the hotel and I used my vehicle to carry him to our forest and immediately started calling his family members. We demanded N20 million.

“I am from Nnanator Maiguo Nkwerre L.G.A of Imo State. Onyekachi was calling the relatives of the victims and they came and dropped N1,550,000. We later beat the deceased to death and we burnt his body, according to the directives of Onyekachi who wanted revenge from the late chief for sleeping with his wife. l was the one who told Onyenkachi to drive the Toyota Camry of late chief Precious Okorie to meet me in Owerri. I sent N290,000 to Onyekachi for the car. I wanted to give him more money later. I took the car to the painter’s workshop before I was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping operatives on December 10, 2021.”

The family of the deceased said arrangements were being made for his burial.

The Police boss said the suspects would soon be charged to court while other gang members who were still at large would be arrested.

“I had no idea the country could go down so badly and so quickly” – Trump says

Biden n Trump

Former US president, Donald Trump has criticized President Joe Biden, saying the country is so badly run, he never knew things would become so bad.

During an exclusive interview with Fox News, on Thursday January 20, exactly one year after Joe Biden was inaugurated, Trump reflected on the first year of the Biden presidency, and said the country is “being absolutely destroyed.”

Trump attacked Biden on everything from the supply chain crisis, to foreign policy, while listing out all his administration achieved despite political attacks from Democrats, two impeachment proceedings and Robert Muller’s investigation into possible collusion with Russia.

“I had no idea the country could go down so badly and so quickly,” Trump said.

Talking about the supply chain crisis, Trump said during his administration, “it wasn’t even a thought.”

“The words supply chain never really came up,” he said. “It was something that we had, nobody had any problems, these were not two words in the vocabulary.”

“They were not in the vocabulary of the administration, because everything was running like a fine-tuned machine. And we didn’t have any problems with supply chain.” Trump said

Trump said he had traveled to Los Angeles and “saw the massive containers, thousands and thousands of them where they dock the ships, in the loading and unloading areas and I will tell you, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“They are stacked up to the sky. It is going to take a long time for them to break it up. It is very bad, very bad. It’s going to take a long time to fix it.” he added

Trump, who recently released his first book since leaving office, “Our Journey Together,” a photo book filled with images and captions hand-picked and handwritten by the former president, said the supply chain crisis is even affecting his book’s production.

“As an example, I did a book and the book turned out to be a tremendous success, and we sold over 200,000 copies of the book which is much more because this is a picture book,” Trump said of the book, published by Winning Team Publishing.

“Now, what we’re doing is going out for 300,000 more books, and they don’t even have paper,” Trump said. “They have no paper, they have no glue, they have no leather, you know the outside binding. This is a company that’s been in business for many years, I think the largest or second-largest printer in the country and they said they’ve never seen anything like this, they’ve never had anything like this.”

Speaking on his own first year in office, Trump said his administration “accomplished so much.”

“We accomplished very early on the greatest tax cuts in history, the greatest regulation cuts in history, Space Force, we re-built the military over a period of time and re-built the military,”

“We did things that nobody thought— Anwar, we got Anwar approved. Ronald Reagan tried to get it done, everybody did, nobody could get it done, we got it. Would have been perhaps the biggest drilling site, energy site in the world and it was terminated by Biden and Lisa Murkowski made it possible to have it terminated.”

“You know, all of these things, we’ve done so much, and now I’m watching what’s happening to our country and our country is being absolutely destroyed. Destroyed,”

“Our dignity, our strength, it is being sapped and destroyed.” Trump said

He added: “It is hard to believe.”

The former president went on to say that the United States, under Biden’s leadership, “looks weak, indecisive, and incompetent.”

“China is dictating terms to us. Russia on Ukraine. China with Taiwan. Kim Jong Un as you know of North Korea is sending up missile after missile and very importantly, Iran is having a lot of fun doing whatever they want. And our country looks like it is just weak and incompetently run.” Trump said

Trump then attacked the Biden administration for the botched withdrawal of the U.S. military from Afghanistan, for losing “energy independence,” re-joining the Paris Climate Accord, “breaking up trade deals” and more.

“So many things,” Trump said. “Here we go again. Here we go again.”

“I never thought I’d see our country look so weak and ineffective.”

As for his plans to run for re-election in 2024, Trump said he thinks he is “going to make a lot of people happy.”

“I think you’re going to see a lot of people are going to be very happy, because, if you look at the polls, you know what they’re saying. And they’ve never been stronger. I’ve never had polls so strong.” Trump said

“They’re also now looking at what we’ve done,” Trump said, pointing again to his new book. “One of the reasons the book does so well is, even despite all of the witch hunts and things that went on, with impeachment hoax number one; impeachment hoax number two; the Muller Report, which was no collusion; all of the things that took place; Russia, Russia, Russia–phony story, totally phony–with all of that, we did so well.”

“People are looking, they’re almost romanticizing about it, because they look at what happened to our country in the last year,” Trump continued. “In my opinion, the prestige of the United States now is lower than its ever been in history—in our history— it is the lowest it’s ever been.”

He added: “I would be able to bring it back and bring it back quickly.”

In January last year, Pamela made news headlines when it was announced that she had married her bodyguard in Dec. 2020 after a whirlwind romance of just a few months of dating (read here).

Now, after just a year of marriage, the couple have split and Pamela is already filing for divorce, according to Rolling Stone.

The source told the publication: “Pamela loves as authentically as she lives” and the “pandemic whirlwind” relationship with Dan had ran its course.

During the Covid-19 lockdown period, Pam sparked up an unlikely bond with the member of her security team and the pair were totally besotted and inseparable.

In February last year, Pam and her new husband, who is in his 40s, appeared on ITV’s Loose Women explaining that they’d found love in her native Canadian home as they conducted the interview from under the sheets of their marital bed.

Before marrying her bodyguard, Pamela’s last wedding, the 5th, was in 2020. She married Hollywood mogul Jon Peters, 74, and it lasted for only 12 days.

She was previously married to Tommy Lee, with whom she shares sons Brandon, 23, and Dylan, 22. The two were married from 1995 to 1998.

The actress later married and divorced Kid Rock in 2006.

Then she married producer Rick Solomon twice — in 2007 and 2013. The first ended in annulment.

It was widely reported that Anderson married Jon Peters, 74, on January 20, 2020 at Shutters Hotel in Santa Monica, California.

But according to Anderson they only had a mock ceremony, not an official wedding.

She told DailyMailTV: “We were never married. He is a movie maker and… I guess he just needed a little attention?”

AFCON 2021: Femi Otedola has promised the Super Eagles team $250,000 if they win 2021 Africa Cup

Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola has promised the Super Eagles squad $250,000, if they lift the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, who represented CACOVID during a visit to the team’s camp in Cameroon, made the disclosure.

He also said the private sector-led platform established to assist the government in combating Coronavirus in the country, will also give the Super Eagles team  $120,000 for the six goals they scored in the group stage of the tournament.

Recall, the Eagles finished the group stage with six goals, which amounted to $120,000.

Emefiele, who praised the team for their performance at the AFCON, also added that CACOVID has increased the amount for every goal scored to $50,000 in the round of 16.

“I came with a message from the CACOVID. The CACOVID is the coalition of private-sector companies that was set up to fight COVID-19 in Nigeria and they have been happy with the performance of the team,” Emefiele said.

“During the meeting, I had with the captain (Ahmed Musa) and the coach (Austin Eguavoen), I delivered a message from CACOVID and the message is that, for every goal that is scored, the team will receive the naira equivalent of $20,000 so far, you have earned for yourself the naira equivalent of $120,000.

“We held a CACOVID meeting again because everyone is overjoyed for everything you’ve done so far, CACOVID has asked me to raise the ante.

“From the round of 16, for every goal scored, you will earn for yourselves as a team the naira equivalent of $50,000.

“Also, Femi Otedola, who is a member of CACOVID, has asked me to tell you that if you lift the trophy, he has in the bank for you, the naira equivalent of $250,000. This is just the beginning and I can assure you that if you win your round of 16 games, another promise might be made,” Emefiele added.

Do you know that Novak Djokovic is majority shareholder in biotech firm that makes COVID drugs?

Serbian tennis star, Novak Djokovic is a co-founder and the majority shareholder in a firm developing a Covid-19 treatment.

Djokovic who was recently deported from Australia after a row with authorities on his insistence on not getting vaccinated, owns an 80% share in the Danish biotech company, QuantBioRes.

The company’s chief executive,  Ivan Loncarevic said;

‘He is one of the founders of my company we founded in June 2020.’

According to the Danish business register, Djokovic and his wife, Jelena, are the majority shareholders at the firm, which employs around 20 staff in Denmark, Slovenia, Australia and Britain.

Mr Loncarevic explained that the company are working on a treatment not a vaccine, and added:

‘We aim to develop a new technology to fight viruses and resistant bacteria and we decided to use Covid as a showcase.

‘If we succeed with Covid, we will succeed with other viruses.’

Described as a ‘talisman of anti-vaccination sentiment’ by Australia’s immigration minister, Djokovic also sparked controversy in summer 2020 when he hosted a charity tennis tournament with little social distancing that led to a Covid outbreak.

He left Australia on Sunday January 16 after a last-gasp court bid to stay failed, meaning he missed the opening Grand Slam of the year, where he was targeting a record 21st major title.

The tennis star also faces the prospect of being unable to defend his French Open title after the government there ruled that all athletes will have to be jabbed to compete in sporting events.

4 persons, including a baby die as they attempt to cross from Canada into the US

Canadian police have found the bodies of four people, including an infant, in a snowy field near the US border.

The group of four died from exposure due to the frigid cold, which dropped to -35C (-31F) with wind chill.

The bodies of a man, a woman, a teenage boy and an infant were found near Emerson, Manitoba, on Wednesday, January 19.

US officials say the dead are believed to be from India. They are thought to have been attempting to cross into the US.

Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Assistant Commissioner, Jane MacLatchy shared the discovery with reporters in a news conference on Thursday, January 20.

“What I am about to share is going to be difficult for many people to hear,” she said, calling it “an absolute and heartbreaking tragedy”.

Around 09:30 local time (15:30 GMT) on Wednesday, Canadian police were alerted that a US Customs and Border Patrol team had arrested a group that had crossed from the area, which is a known illicit border crossing site.

“A US official told the Canadian team that one man was discovered with items for an infant, but that no child was found with him.”

“A search was launched on both sides of the US-Canada border, and the group was discovered around 13:30 about nine to 12 metres from the US border. Crews using snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles continued to search the deep snow until late Wednesday evening.”

Ms MacLatchy said that the group was “on their own in the middle of a blizzard” and “faced not only the cold weather but endless fields, large snowdrifts and complete darkness”.

Later on Thursday, US federal officials in Minnesota announced human smuggling charges against 47-year-old Florida resident Steve Shand.

Mr Shand was found driving a 15-person van in a rural area along the border with cases of food and water in his boot. Two passengers with him were found to be undocumented migrants from India, US officials say.

As they were being transported to a border patrol station, the US agents encountered a group of five Indian citizens who said they had been walking for 11 hours and had been expecting to be picked up by someone.

One of them was carrying a backpack containing children’s clothes, toys and medication. He said he was carrying it for a family of four, but they “had become separated in the night”.

Based on the description, the bodies found in Canada have been tentatively identified as the family from India, the US statement says.

The RCMP’s Ms MacLatchy urged “anyone who’s thinking of crossing the border in Manitoba, either heading south or north: just don’t do it”.

“Do not listen to anyone who tells you they can get you to your destination safely. They cannot. Even with proper clothing it is not a journey that is possible.”

The police officials say it is rare to see people crossing from Canada southbound into the US. Most immigrants will rather stay in Canada than the US

Kenyan court frees woman charged with murder after she chopped off her husband’s genital during domestic brawl

A Kenyan woman who was accused of assaulting and killing her husband during a domestic brawl has been acquitted of murder charge by a court.

Naomi Njoki was accused of killing her husband, David Njogu on August 3, 2019 , by using a piece of wood to hit him on the head and chest as well chopping his private part using a knife.

According to Nation Kenya, Njogu was found lying in a pool of blood inside their rented single room at Free Area estatein Nakuru, with multiple stab wounds on his head, fracture of the left thigh and a chopped manhood.

The incident which angered the neighbours saw them descend on the wife Naomi Njoki in their bid to deliver instant mob justice before she was rescued by the police.

Both were rushed to the Nakuru Level five hospital where the woman was treated and discharged. The man was however not lucky as he succumbed to the injuries.

The Police who attributed his death to the earlier fight immediately arrested the woman and charged her with his murder.

Free Area Location Chief Stephen Macharia, who was among the first to respond to distress calls by neighbours, testified in court and said he found the man lying unconscious on the floor bleeding from the head while his trousers were pulled down.

Government pathologist Titus Ngulungu who conducted the postmortem established that the cause of death was massive blood loss due fatal stab on the head and penis glans using a sharp object.

But fast forward to 2022, Ms Njoki is free after she was acquitted of the charges by the court.

According to Justice Teresia Matheka the Police are to blame for the acquittal of the suspect after failing to establish a case against the suspect.

The judge faulted the police decisions of being in a rush to charge a suspect before having gathered enough evidence to sustain the charge.

“This case is a classic example of the failure by the investigators to investigate the case and to proceed to charge the first and obvious suspect, without anything to clutch on. The mere fact that the accused and the husband had quarrelled earlier did not make the case open and shut,” noted the judge.

She continued “At least there ought to have been an attempt at investigations to establish whether it was actually the accused who had inflicted the fatal injuries.”

“From the foregoing, it is evident that the prosecution established that there was a murder, but as for the person who committed it, the prosecution brought the accused to court on the basis of suspicion,” she ruled.

Man, switched at birth says he hates his mother for not taking him back, he is poor and other ‘swapped child’ is rich

A man who was switched at birth admits that he resented his mother for not swapping him back when the error was discovered, causing him to grow up poor while the other child grew up rich.

Robin and Gavin were accidentally handed to the wrong mothers by a nurse at Nigel Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. They were the only two babies born on that day in February 1989.

This meant that Robin was raised by single mum Sandy Dawkins who was struggling to get by on the outskirts of the city while Gavin grew up with wealthier parent Megs Clinton Parker in Pietermaritzburg.

The mistake was discovered two years later when a disagreement over Gavin’s rightful father led to a DNA test that showed that Megs was not his birth mother, as reported by The Mirror.

Hospital records confirmed that Robin, who was growing up with Sandy as his mum, was Megs’ biological child.

When faced with swapping their birth sons back, Megs and Sandy chose to keep the children they had raised since birth.

Gavin (left) Robin (right)

Speaking at the time the discovery was made, one of the parents told 60 Minutes Australia: “You can’t reject a child that you’ve been so close to for two years.

“Initially I think you protect the one you’ve got. The first few days are shock, then the curiosity comes. Where’s my baby?”

The boys’ mothers embraced one another like sisters after discovering the mistake in 1991 but chose not to swap the boys back.

The boys grew up 500km apart in very different environments and referred to each other as brothers.

But Robin has since admitted that he wishes his biological mother fought to switch him back.

Robin as an adult

Speaking at age 15, he said he had “difficulty accepting the situation” and misses his mother Megs “awfully a lot” who he speaks to daily on the phone.

He said life with Sandy was “not easy” and that he resented Gavin who does “get things easy.”

“If I’ve ever wanted something, I’ve had to work towards it. I’ve never just had it come towards me,” he added.

At the time, Gavin, who grew up with rich parents, described being “happy” with the life he was accidentally given and that he did not feel sorry for Robin.

Gavin

He said: “Saying I thank my lucky stars every day would be wrong but at the same time I was given a life which I’ve now lived and I’m still living and I don’t regret anything.”

But, with time, Megs missed her biological son and encouraged him to move halfway across the country to her home with Gavin in 2004. Robin did, leaving Sandy without a child.

This didn’t go down well with Sandy and she called Megs out at the time, saying: “I just want to know she’s really happy with what she’s achieved.

“I mean she’s ruined people’s lives, there’s just no other way to look at it… she’s ruined mine for starters.”

Megs said she “could understand that” and would have been “devastated” if the same thing happened to her, but added: “I’m not sending him back because she’s sore.

“I’m not going to be sorry because I won. I’m damn glad I won.”

But the image of one happy family soon started to breakdown because of Robin’s attitude to his new school and Megs’ high expectations of him, turning the house into a “war zone”.

Robin said the high pressure environment turned “me into a dragon”.

“It’s not who I am,” he said.

“It was like I was in a bottle and the lid was closed… For me to try and change in two, three years to suit Meg or to keep her happy, I tried and I thought I could do it, but I couldn’t.”

At 18, Robin dropped out of school and hit the road, moving to Louis Trichardt in northern South Africa where he found a job building safari rigs.

The move devastated Megs, breaking apart the already fractious family.

“When he left, I almost died. I can’t tell how it hurts, because I worked so hard for it and I wanted it so much. Then when it failed, it never occurred to me that it failed,” she said.

“When you wanted all the right things for all the right reasons but they just didn’t fit into place.

“When he left, I just stopped living for a while.”

Meanwhile Gavin said the sudden abandonment made him want to “kill” Robin.

“It’s the fact that he hurt Megs. I mean she felt extremely betrayed and really hurt when he walked out,” he said.

“She had given him a home for three to four years, she was looking after him, providing for him. And he walked out just throwing everything back at us.”

Years later, the family have finally reunited with Robin, his wife Liesel and their son James, and are starting to rebuild their relationship.

And Robin now says he understands why Megs and Sandy chose not to swap the babies back.

“If I was to find out he (his son James) wasn’t mine, there’s no way I’d give him back,” Robin said.

“I would make the decision that I’m not getting to know the other child because what I’ve got is good and keep it that way.

“I wouldn’t want him to know, I would keep it a secret and just leave it that way.”

Indian Police arrests the ‘most wanted Nigerian drug Lord’ in India (video)

In a major breakthrough, the North Zone Task Force of Hyderabad City Police have arrested a Nigerian national, Chukwu Ogbonna David, the kingpin of one of the major international drug rackets.

Ogbonna, alias Tony Abia Marsha alias Tony, is one of the most wanted drug peddlers, police said.

Ogbonna, who has managed to stay elusive for many years was arrested on Thursday, January 20, in Mumbai and brought to Telangana.

He is said to have been running the drug racket with agents in metropolitan cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai.

See Video here:

On the basis of information given by the accused, the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force team had busted a drug racket allegedly operated by Tony and seized 10 grams of cocaine and 11 mobile phones.

Police also arrested nine of the 13 high profile businessmen in Hyderabad who were “consumers” of the drug supplied by Tony.

Announcing the arrest of the gang, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, said Tony who was presently staying in Andheri East in Mumbai, has been supplying drugs to people of affluent sections in the city.

“In the year 2013, he migrated to Mumbai from Nigeria on temporary VISA. Since then, he is illegally staying in Mumbai. Initially, he was engaged in the export business of garments and wigs to African countries. After coming in contact with drug peddlers, tony decided to come into this business,” Anand said.

“Tony purchased drugs from an international drug peddler called ‘Star Boy’ (African national). With the help of his agents, he transported drugs from Mumbai to Hyderabad. Money used to get transferred via online mode to his agents’ accounts,” he said.

The seven others who were arrested were businessmen and realtors, identified as Niranjan Kumar Jain, Shashwat Jain, Yagyanand Agarwal, Dhandul Surya Sumanth Reddy, Bandi Bhargav, Venkat Chalsani and Thamminedi Sagar.

“Niranjan and Sagar took the SIM cards of their office boys Srikanth and Subba Rao to speak to Tony. Hence the office boys were also booked,” Anand said, adding that the police were also probing if the seven persons were supplying drugs to others.

The police also found Tony established a network of agents in different places including Mumbai, Goa and Hyderabad and after accepting online payments, supplied the drug.

“Tony carried out his activity mostly in South Indian States. We are also probing if the consumers were hosting parties and using the drug,” the CP said.

The main supplier Star Boy, according to the police, used only WhatsApp or VOIP network to contact his agents.

“He himself never exposed himself to his agents or customers. He communicated with everyone using International phone numbers with WhatsApp calls and VOIP calls. He has around 15 to 20 customers in Hyderabad,” Anand said.

“He does not meet anyone nor does he interact through direct phone calls. We suspect he is operating from some African country and through his network supplies the drug in containers shipped to India,” Anand said, adding that the City Police would be writing to the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs seeking help in contacting the Nigerian government to nab Star Boy.

“Deadly pandemic more deadly than coronavirus is coming’ – Bill Gates

Coronavirus will be with us 'forever' and will require regular vaccinations, expert warns

Billionaire Microsoft founder, Bill Gate has warned that future pandemics could be worse than the coronavirus pandemic.

Gates spoke of his worries as the Bill & Melania Gates Foundation donated $150 million (£110m) to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation (CEPI) on Wednesday, January 19.

CEPI are set to use the donations in the fight against coronavirus as well as in preparation for potential pandemics in the future, it was announced on Tuesday.

Speaking about the work done by CEPI, Gates said in a statement;

“As the world responds to the challenge of a rapidly evolving virus, the need to deliver new, lifesaving tools has never been more urgent.”

“Next time the world suffers pandemic it could be worse than coronavirus”

CEO of CEPI, Dr Richard Hatchet, said: “These generous pledges will dramatically advance CEPI’s plan to reduce epidemic and pandemic risk in the future by developing vaccines against emerging infectious diseases while ensuring equitable access for all.”

Gates added: “Our work over the past 20 years has taught us that early investment in research and development can save lives and prevent worst-case scenarios.”

The Bill & Melania Gates Foundation has pledged the $150 million to “Help CEPI accelerate the development of safe and effective vaccines against emerging variants of the coronavirus and to prepare for, and possibly even prevent, the next pandemic”.

Gates took the chance to urge governments to contribute in order to “prevent the spread of future pandemics, some of which could have the potential for a higher fatality rate than the coronavirus pandemic”

In a blog post on Wednesday, Gates explained a few things had gone wrong when it came to Covid, writing;

“Creating new vaccines isn’t enough. We also have to make sure that everyone who can benefit from vaccines has access to them, and that’s where the world has collectively failed in its response to COVID.

“While at least 9 billion doses were distributed in the past year, less than 1% went to people in low-income countries.

“We need to do better the next time the world faces a pathogen that has the potential to spark a pandemic”.

Gossip: Story about Kim Kardashian’s romance with Pete Davidson

Is it true love or are they simply friends? Fans have been wondering what’s actually going on between Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson since they were first spotted spending time together in October 2021, following Kim’s divorce from Kanye West.

Shortly before Halloween, the Skims creator and the Saturday Night Live star were caught holding hands on a roller coaster ride at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. Despite the fact that the couple was at the theme park with other people, including Kourtney Kardashian and her fiancé, Travis Barker, their intimate moment made the news.

“Kim and Pete seemed like good friends,” an eyewitness told Us Weekly at the time, adding that the group was escorted by multiple security officers. “Kim appeared to be really relaxed. She appeared to be attempting to conceal herself.”

Fans of both the comedian and the KKW Beauty mogul were surprised by the pairing, but they do share many connections and acquaintances. Machine Gun Kelly, who is close to Barker, is BFFs with Davidson, and Kelly’s girlfriend, Megan Fox, is friendly with Kourtney. (In September 2021, the latter two paired together for a raunchy Skims marketing campaign.)

But it’s Kim’s estranged husband, Kanye West, who frequently collaborates with Davidson’s chum Kid Cudi, who they share the most in common. In 2019, the comedian attended a birthday dinner for the “Pursuit of Happiness” artist, which was also attended by the pair popularly known as Kimye.

After six years of marriage, the Selfish author filed for divorce from the Grammy winner in February 2021. North (born in June 2013), Saint (born in December 2015), Chicago (born in January 2018), and Psalm (born in January 2019) are the couple’s four children (born in May 2019).

Kim had not been officially linked to anyone since she announced her split from West until she was pictured with Davidson. According to a source, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum wasn’t ready to put herself out there again until June 2021.

“She’s not interested in dating right now,” the insider explained at the time, “but she’s worried that guys won’t want to date her because of how public her relationship with Kanye was.” “She also understands how difficult it is to gain someone’s trust, so she believes it will take time before she opens up about her personal life.”

After five months of dating, the King of Staten Island star called it quits with Phoebe Dynevor in August 2021. “The separation strained the relationship and made it difficult to sustain,” a source told Us of the breakup. (Davidson is from New York City, whereas Bridgerton is from the United Kingdom.)

Continue reading to learn everything there is to know about Davidson’s and Kim’s relationship:

Kid Cudi’s Birthday Party

Davidson related a story about how he got sucked into paying for Kid Cudi’s birthday dinner at Nobu that year, which was also attended by Timothée Chalamet, Kim, and West, during an April 2019 interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Suicide Squad star told Jimmy Fallon, “Kim and Kanye [are] the cutest pair ever.” “People who are incredibly nice. With them, I had a great time.

Aladdin and Jasmine are two characters from the Arabian Nights.

Kim met Davidson for the first time in public in early October 2021, when she hosted SNL for the first time. She played Jasmine to his Aladdin in one sketch, and the two shared an onscreen kiss.

The Ride on the Roller-Coaster

After the couple’s night out at the theme park, an insider told Us exclusively, “No one really knows what’s going on with Kim and Pete.” “Right now, they’re simply friends, but things may turn romantic.” Meanwhile, a second source said the law student was “surprised” by how much chemistry she had with the comedian.

Dinner with Pizza

In November 2021, only days after their visit to Knott’s Berry Farm, the two reunited in Davidson’s hometown of New York City for dinner at Campania on Staten Island. The twosome entered through a back door and “shared a couple of pizzas” in a private dining room, according to an eyewitness.

Two nights in a row in a row in a row in a row in a

Davidson and Kim dined with friends at Zero Bond in Manhattan the day following their pizza supper. The two arrived at the restaurant individually, according to Us, and were subsequently joined by a group.

In November 2021, Davidson celebrated his 28th birthday with Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner. The trio donned matching plaid pajamas, presumably from Kardashian’s Skims collection, in photos posted by Flavor Flav, who also attended the tiny party. While the location of the party is unknown, the decor in Flav’s Instagram photographs appears to be quite similar to Jenner’s Palm Springs, California home.

The Hand That Is Being Held

After weeks of speculation, Davidson and Kardashian appeared to confirm their relationship in November 2021 when they were caught holding hands in Palm Springs, California. Following a birthday celebration for Davidson, they were dressed informally.

“Their chemistry is off the charts and becoming stronger each passing day,” a source told Us at the time, adding that the beauty mogul “lights up” around the comedian

Dinner in Small Groups

In a Lamborghini, Davidson took Kardashian to Giorgio Baldi, a family-owned Italian restaurant in Santa Monica, California. The two “weren’t trying to hide,” according to a witness, and were “cuddled up and looked cozy” while enjoying wine and food. In paparazzi images from their night out, fans saw what seemed to be a hickey on Davidson’s neck.

Breakfast with a Twist

There aren’t always Italian sports vehicles and crowds of paparazzi on every date. Paul Barewijk, a Dutch music writer, was on vacation when he saw the new couple having breakfast at the Beverly Hills Hotel and took a few photos with them.

A Meaningful Evening

Scott Disick joined Kardashian and Davidson at Angelina’s Ristorante in Staten Island in December 2021. According to a source, the outing had a special importance for the comedian, who told Us, “Pete has been a long-time patron of the restaurant. It appeals to him. It’s his mother’s favorite restaurant, and he takes her there frequently.”

According to the insider, the couple “definitely” hoped to return to the restaurant.

Date for a Movie on Staten Island

The two were photographed at a Staten Island movie theater just after SNL announced that Paul Rudd’s show would be cut due to fears of a COVID-19 outbreak. Davidson was caught smiling after leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in Tribeca, where the reality star was staying on her New York trip, during the December 2021 outing.

A source informed Us at the time that Kardashian had been having an affair “”They’re certainly not disguising their affection,” she says of her time with Davidson. They appear to simply want to be able to do things that any other couple would do and have fun together.”

US surgeons perform second successful pig-to-human kidney transplant

It marks the second successful transplant of pig kidneys into a human in the United States, following a similar achievement by surgeons at NYU Langone Health in New York City last October in a procedure that also involved a brain-dead recipient, the researchers said in an article published Thursday by the American Journal of Transplantation.

On Jan. 10, surgeons in Maryland successfully transplanted a pig heart into 57-year-old Jim Parsons with life-threatening heart failure who had exhausted other treatments and did not qualify for a human heart transplant because he was not healthy enough.

Surgeons perform second successful pig-to-human kidney transplant

Mr. Parsons was brain dead and on life support after having suffered a traumatic head injury, but scientists assessed the effects of the transplant with his family’s blessing.

Pig organs are genetically modified to prevent rejection by human recipients, as well as additional growth after surgery, the University of Alabama-Birmingham researchers said.

The ability to transplant pig organs into human recipients could increase the number of available organs and prevent thousands of deaths in the United States caused by donor organ shortages, they said.

The report of the successful transplant “provides knowledge that could not be generated in animal models and moves us closer to a future where organ supply meets the tremendous need,” co-author and surgeon Dr. Jayme E. Locke said in a press release.

Once transplanted, the kidneys produced urine and were not rejected in the short term, said Locke, who is director of transplantation at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Earlier this month, David Bennett become the first patient in the world to get a heart transplant from a genetically-modified pig

The first peer-reviewed research outlining Mr. Parsons’ successful transplant by surgeons at UAB’s Department of Surgery has been published today in the American Journal of Transplantation.

‘This game-changing moment in the history of medicine represents a paradigm shift and a major milestone in the field of xenotransplantation, which is arguably the best solution to the organ shortage crisis,’ said Professor Jayme Locke, director of the Comprehensive Transplant Institute in UAB’s Department of Surgery and lead surgeon for the study.

‘We have bridged critical knowledge gaps and obtained the safety and feasibility data necessary to begin a clinical trial in living humans with end-stage kidney failure disease.

‘This study provides knowledge that could not be generated in animal models and moves us closer to a future where organ supply meets the tremendous need.’

Mr Parsons was declared brain dead – and therefore officially deceased – on September 26, prior to the procedure on September 30.

‘Circulation was maintained initially for the purposes of allocating his organs for transplant and then for our study,’ said Professor Locke.

Mr. Parsons was a registered organ donor through Legacy of Hope, Alabama’s organ procurement organisation.

He had longed to have his organs help others upon his death, but his organs were not suitable for donation.

His family permitted UAB to maintain him on a ventilator to keep his body functioning during the study.

His native kidneys were removed, and the two genetically modified pig kidneys were transplanted.

For the first time, the pig kidneys transplanted were taken from pigs that had been genetically modified with 10 key gene edits that may make the kidneys suitable for transplant into humans.

“I fainted twice when my wife said I’m not father of our teen daughter” — Yaqub Ganiyu says

Muridia and Yaqub Ganiyu have been living peacefully as a couple for 17 years.  They are blessed with four children.

Sadly, the union is on the verge of complete collapse, owing to a startling revelation by Muridia that Yaqub is not the biological father of their  14-year-old daughter.

Yaqub, a commercial motorcyclist who is yet to come to terms with the reality of his wife’s confession, told Vanguard Metro that he fainted twice out of shock when his wife broke the news.

During a visit to his one-room apartment on Matomi Street, Alagbado, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states,  the father of four said the issue had affected the teenager in question, emotionally and had also truncated the peaceful atmosphere in his home.

At the moment, the husband and wife are living apart, an action Yaqub is displeased with, as he alleged that he was mandated by So-Safe Corps, a vigilante group, to be giving his wife N5,000 weekly for the upkeep of the children.

The rosy beginning

In this interview with him, he recalled: “I met Muridia  17 years ago when she was an apprentice.  I assisted her financially until she mastered the skill. Thereafter, we started dating and living together. I brought her to Lagos, from Otu Village, Oyo State, to set up a business for her.

“ We are blessed with four children, a daughter and three sons – aged  14, 8 and 4 years and three months respectively.

“Initially, things went smoothly in the family while I was working as a truck operator.  At a point, I lost that job. I started riding a motorcycle in order to put food on the table.

Things fall apart

“Recently, I  noticed that my wife started behaving strangely.  I kept calm to allow peace reign until she brought a Tecno-5 Phone home.  When I asked where she got it from, she gave a flimsy reason.  I also noticed she had been communicating with a man whose identity I did not know. I had to seize the phone.

“About a month ago, she woke me up at midnight and told me that I was not the biological father of our 14-year-old daughter.  She said her former boyfriend who lives in Germany is the biological father of the child. You won’t believe that this same man and I were once neighbours before he travelled abroad.

“I fainted out of shock and disbelief, twice. It was neighbours that resuscitated me. What baffled me was that the man she claimed to be the biological father is a relative and an old friend of mine. His father has two wives, one of them is my aunt.

“I later got to know that things were not going smoothly with him. When they enquired to know the cause spiritually, it was revealed that he had a child somewhere and that until he accepts the paternity of the child, there won’t be any solution to his issue.

“Initially, I thought my wife was out of her senses. I  contacted her family members to pray for her so that she could get well but I didn’t know she had other plans.

Two weeks ago, she reported the matter with So-Safe Corps at Abule-Iroko, Ogun State. I was arrested and detained by the Corps. Its officials ordered me to pick up my belongings and leave our one-room apartment.

‘’It did not end there, they ordered me to return the phone  I seized to her and pay  N5,000 weekly, for the family upkeep. I have been homeless since then. The attention of both families have been drawn to the matter but from all indications, Muridia’s family members are in support of her action.

“I have an aged mother and an elder brother who are not medically fit to intervene.

‘’The man my wife claimed is the father of my daughter said I should stay far away from her or face the consequences, boasting that he has the financial muscle to deal with me.

“I used to have three motorcycles but sold them to enable me to fend for my family. The one I am currently using was bought on hire purchase.”

But when  Vanguard Metro met Muridia, she clarified that she was already pregnant for another man who she identified as Teslim, when she met her husband.

She said: “When I discovered I was six weeks pregnant, I told Teslim about it but he sent me away and asked me to terminate it.

“Luckily for me, Yaqub walked into my life and slept with me. A few weeks later, I told him I was pregnant for him, he accepted paternity and we pulled resources together to rent an apartment. Teslim and I were in the village while Yaqub was visiting from Lagos.

“I am a hairdresser but our stay together had been hellish as Yaqub has no tangible source of income to fend for the family.

“Several attempts to walk away from the marriage were unsuccessful as he tactically tied me down with pregnancy. This is the fourth rented apartment I have paid for but he always disrupts my chances of staying alone.

“One day, I got a call from  Teslim’s friend, who requested to know what happened to the pregnancy of 15 years ago,  I did not give him any response.

“I was in church one day when Teslim’s relative sent a Tecno-5 phone to me because mine was faulty. Teslim called me to say he was in Germany but that settling down maritally had been difficult. He told me that upon divination, he was told to go and claim the paternity of the baby he abandoned in order to have a settled life.

“Two weeks ago, Yaqub and I had a quarrel in my shop. Neighbours intervened by contacting the So Safe Corps which effected his arrest.

“My uncle and other members of my family are aware of this matter. There are moves to conduct a DNA test to ascertain the biological father of my daughter, Zainab,” she said.

In a chat with Zainab, she innocently told Vanguard Metro: “My mummy and daddy are fighting because of me. They said something happened when I was young,”

Investigations revealed that the So Safe Corps personnel who handled the matter had opened a communication channel between Teslim and Zainab. The personnel was quoted to have threatened to re-arrest Yaqub and seized his motorcycle which is his only means of income.

When Vanguard Metro contacted the Commander, So -Safe Corps, Soji Gonzalo, on phone, he said he was at an official function in Abeokuta and would be unable to respond to her inquiry.

However, it was learnt that through the effort of a human rights activist, Comrade Adewale Ojo, the National Coordinator, Human Rights Advocacy & Monitoring Group (HURAMG), the So Safe Corps personnel has been summoned to the Corps headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State where he is being interrogated.

Efforts to reach the supposed father of the teenager failed as calls and text messages sent to his mobile phone were not attended to.

Black Axe Nigerian members arrested over forcing women into prostitution (video)

Italian police have arrested four suspected members of Nigerian mafia after a young sex trafficking victim spoke out against them.

The men, who allegedly belong to Black Axe, were arrested during operations conducted in the Sicilian regional capital Palermo and Puglian regional capital Taranto in the early hours of Tuesday, January 18.

“The suspects were charged with slavery, human trafficking, kidnapping and pandering [recruiting prostitutes],” the police said.

The police were acting on information from the Nigerian migrant who said she had been forced into prostitution by the group.

Palermo’s flying squad led the investigation via their department for foreign organized crime and prostitution.

One of the suspects was taken into custody in Palermo. The other three were found to be living in Taranto, where they were also taken into pre-trial custody.

The Nigerian woman who accused the suspects was supported by a Pentecostal preacher, also from Nigeria.

According toto the Italian news agency AGI, the woman turned to the preacher for help after being forced to work as a prostitute in Italy.

According to the woman’s statement, she underwent a “Juju” or traditional magic ceremony in Nigeria before being trafficked to Italy.

The woman said she was first kidnapped by a group of Black Axe members in Nigeria. She escaped with the help of a fellow Nigerian but to pay him back, she was asked to travel to Italy as a “slave.” During the ceremony, she promised to pay €15,000 for her journey.

Once the woman arrived in Palermo, under “the threat of death and violence” reports AGI, the woman was allegedly forced to work as a prostitute. The money she earned was then taken to “repay” the debt.

Finally, the woman turned to the pastor, who says he has since been received death threats.

Pete Davidson employs more security men after Kanye West threatened to beat him up

Pete Davidson is taking precautionary measures after receiving threats from Kanye West in his new song Eazy.

The Saturday Night Live star, who is dating West’s estranged wife Kim Kardashian, was recently dissed by the rapper in the latest track, made in collaboration with The Game.

“God saved me from that crash / Just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass,” Ye raps on “Eazy,” while his new girlfriend Julia Fox reportedly provides the ad lib, “Who?”

According to Radar, the famed TV personality is worried about the rapper’s huge fanbase. “Pete isn’t worried about Kanye, but he is concerned about the massive fanbase that Kanye has.,” an insider told the outlet.

“His devoted followers listen to his songs and act upon them. That’s why Pete is now using security,” it reported.

“Until recently Pete never had security with him when he was out and about, even when he was engaged to Ariana Grande. But dating Kim is a totally different level of fame,” the source close to Davidson shared.

“Pete is now a superstar, which comes with a price. As much as he still wants to be low-key and hang with his friends, the reality of his situation has changed,” it pointed out.

“Pete isn’t taking any chances. Whenever he is out with Kim, they use her security. But now Pete needs his own security when he is out alone. He is still Pete, but now Pete comes with a 6’1, 220 lbs security guard,” the insider revealed.

Pete’s decision to beef up his security comes after Ye claimed that Kim’s security wouldn’t let him inside her house to see their kids because Pete was inside, which Kim has denied.

“We found some evidence of fraud committed by Trump Organization” – Letitia James alleges

New York Attorney General Letitia James has alleged finding “significant evidence” of fraud committed by the Trump Organization.

The revelation on Wednesday morning, January 19 came as part of a motion filed earlier Tuesday by James in an attempt to obtain testimony from Donald Trump’s children, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. in James’ ongoing investigation into the Trump Organization’s finances.

“We are taking legal action to force Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Jr. and Ivanka Trump to comply with our investigation into the Trump Organization’s financial dealings. No one in this country can pick and choose if and how the law applies to them,” James tweeted.

“We have uncovered significant evidence indicating that the Trump Organization used fraudulent and misleading asset valuations on multiple properties to obtain economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions for years.”

“Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Ivanka Trump have all been closely involved in the transactions in question, so we won’t tolerate their attempts to evade testifying in this investigation.”

“We will not be deterred in our efforts to continue this investigation, uncover the facts, and pursue justice, no matter how many roadblocks Mr. Trump and his family throw in our way. No one is above the law.”

Smoking Marijuana can degrade your concentration, memory and decision-making, study claims

Researchers have said using cannabis can affect memory, concentration, and decision-making.

The Canadian experts reviewed the scientific evidence surrounding the drug, and warned the effects of cannabis or marijuana can persist well beyond the period of intoxication.

University of Montreal scientists claimed children who smoke the drug may perform worse at school because of its effects.  And adults who use the drug, considered a class B substance in Britain, could also suffer at work or impair their driving ability.

The review, published in the journal Addiction, concluded the impairments ‘may be worse in regular and heavy users’.

More prevention measures are needed in schools to prevent adolescents using the drug chronically, researchers said.

Montreal academics analyzed existing cannabis studies involving more than 43,000 people.

The study looked at how the drug affected memory, learning, attention, processing speed, language, and motor function.

Researchers looked at the extent to which cannabis affects cognitive performance immediately after taking it and in the longer term.

The studies analysed ranged from experiments involving as few as 65 volunteers to ones including thousands, and they involved a range of smoking habits from daily use to abstinence.

Heavy and frequent use was found to hamper decision-making, flexible thinking, and self-control.

Other studies suggested regular cannabis use hampered the ability of people being to control their behaviour, and left them less able to make ‘appropriate decisions’.

Research also showed adults given THC,  the psychoactive substance that gives off a ‘high’ performed worse in memory tests. But not all of the studies agreed, with some of the analyses uncovering no effect on memory caused by regular cannabis use.

Dr. Alexandre Dumais, a psychiatrist and co-author of the study, argued cannabis can impair ‘several areas of cognition’.

These include ‘problems concentrating and difficulties remembering and learning, which may have considerable impact on users’ daily lives’.

‘Cannabis use in youth may consequently lead to reduced educational attainment, and, in adults, to poor work performance and dangerous driving,’ he added.

‘These consequences may be worse in regular and heavy users.’

Previous studies have shown the drug which is used medicinally across the world can alleviate depression, anxiety, and stress.

But heavy use may worsen depression in the long term by reducing the brain’s ability to let go of bad memories.

It can also worsen mental health problems among people who already have them, or increase users’ risk of psychosis or schizophrenia, according to research.

Cristiano Ronaldo set to leave Man United if they fail this season

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to leave Manchester United this summer if the Red Devils fail to qualify for Champions League football next season.

Ronaldo, 36, sealed a sensational return to United last summer, with the hope he could help the Devils could win their first title in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, United have endured a questionable campaign and sit in the seventh spot in the Premier League.

According to The Sun, Ronaldo’s representatives are already in talks with Richard Arnold – who will take over from Ed Woodward as United’s CEO next month — over Ronaldo’s future.

The Portuguese turns 37 next month and believes he can play at the top level until he is 40, but wants to finish his career on a high as a winner.

Last week, Ronaldo hinted that he would not settle for anything less than Champions League football, telling Sky Sports that occupying the Europa League places is not acceptable for United.

The prolific attacker also suggested that some of his teammates are not as committed to the cause as he is.

‘I don’t want to be here in a club to fight to be in sixth or seventh or fifth place, I’m here to try to win,’ he said. ‘I’m back in Manchester because I love this club, it’s not just because of money or whatever. I believe that we have the potential here to win important things. But some things have to change. I believe if we change our minds, we can achieve big things.

‘I say we have a long way to improve because, for me, the most important thing is the mentality,’ he said. ‘To look at yourself and say, “I can do better”.

‘For you to be professional, help the team, the right mentality, self-taught and positive. All these details depend on you, not the coaches, the fans or the press. If you are proud of yourself and you have dignity, you have to do it much more.’

‘If I give you advice, even if you are younger than me, if you don’t implant that during your daily life, it will be difficult,’ he said. ‘I will be the No 1 to help. But if you don’t want my help, do your job, look for yourself, do your best to help the team.

‘I can speak all day with that person but if it’s not coming from inside of you, it’s impossible. When I was 18, 19, 20, some older players spoke with me, but I put that as, “Cristiano, you have to improve”.

Nigerian Soldiers raided 100 Igbo communities, burnt and destroyed properties in 14 months – Civil Rights Group claims

A civil rights group, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has released a report alleging soldiers of the Nigerian Army, together with the Police, DSS, NSCDC and other members of the Armed Forces raided not less than 100 Igbo communities, attacked not less than 1000 dwelling houses belonging to unarmed civilians and destroyed properties valued at not less than N40billion in the past 14 months

The group in it’s report titled  “Massacre In Eastern Nigeria: A Special Investigative Report” signed by its board Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi , Chinwe Umeche ,  stated that the Nigerian security forces, presently structured along Northern Muslim lines and deployed in Eastern Nigeria had in fourteen months or between late October 2020 and Dec 2021 killed not less than 1,150 defenseless citizens of Eastern Nigeria.

The report added that all the victims were members of Judeo-Christian Faith and mostly ethnic Igbo citizens.

The report said the killings were at a monthly average of 85 deaths and daily average of three.

The report also added that  the military also abducted and disappeared till date at least 1000 unarmed civilians; arrested alive and unarmed and taken into security custodies outside the knowledge of their families or lawyers, from where they have gone missing till date.

The group alleged  that soldiers of the Nigerian Army are found to be responsible for at least 70% of their abduction and disappearances while DSS, Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force are separately and jointly responsible for the remaining 30%.

“Imo State accounted for the highest number of those traceably killed by security forces especially soldiers of the Nigerian Army and personnel of the Nigeria Police “special squads”, the report reads

The State accounted for at least 300 deaths from the 1,150 deaths; followed by Rivers with 200 deaths including 150 deaths arising October-November 2020 Obigbo Army attacks. The Nigeria Police IRT Headquarters or ‘Abattoir’ at Abuja was responsible for not less than 150 custodial deaths (mainly citizens arrested from Imo State), followed by Abia State with not less than 130 deaths. Anambra and Ebonyi accounted for 100 deaths each while Akwa Ibom recorded at least 60 deaths.

“The Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) and its ‘Special Tactical Squad’ and ‘Counter Terrorism Unit’ at Abuja also accounted for at least 50 extra-judicial or custodial killings. Delta and Cross River recorded the remaining minimum of 60 deaths; totaling 1,150 defenseless citizens’ deaths in 14 months. Imo State also accounted for at least 40% of the circumstantially discovered 1000 missing/presumed dead citizens, followed by Rivers State”

“ The not less than 270 Igbo-Christian deaths arising from attacks by Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen in Igbo Nation territory in 2021 majorly took place in ancestral Igbo parts of Benue and Kogi where no fewer than 90 deaths occurred; followed by Ebonyi and Enugu with at least 80 deaths; Igbo Delta/Edo with no fewer than 50 deaths. The rest are Anambra with at least 30 deaths and Imo and Abia with at least 30 deaths, totaling 270 Igbo-Christian deaths”

Intersociety stated it is a crime for soldiers to target and engage in wanton destruction of properties belonging to civilian population or properties that do not constitute “military necessity”.

“Such heinous acts are internationally and severely punishable as “war crimes” or “crimes against humanity”.

Atrociously, soldiers and other security forces deployed in Eastern Nigeria have mindlessly targeted and razed civilian houses with impunity. Soldiers have also been found to have turned themselves into ‘looters’. A clear case in point was the looting spree by the Nigerian Air Force (211 Regiment, Owerri) personnel on May 30th and 31st 2021 at Enyiogugu Market Square in Mbaise, Imo State” the group said.

Nigerian Army kills and disbands IPOB/ESN stronghold at Lilu forest

Troops of the Nigerian Army(NA) in a joint operations conducted with other security agencies have dislodged a notorious stronghold of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN) at Lilu Forest in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Lilu is a border town between Imo and Anambra States, which was hitherto known to be used as an operational base of the dissidents.

A statement released by Brig. General Onyeama Nwachuku, the director of Army Public Relations, states that the operations, which were conducted in the early hours of Monday 17 January 2022, led to the neutralization of some gunmen in a firefight that ensued.

”After dislodging the dissidents from their fortress, the dogged troops recovered 10 Pump Action Shotguns, two locally fabricated guns, One Revolver pistol,  rounds of 7.62 mm special, live cartridges, machettes and IPOB flags. Other items recovered are mobile phones, laptops  amongst other dangerous weapons.”the statement read in part

He added that the operation was jointly conducted by troops of 82 Division, Nigerian Navy, 211 Quick Response Group of the Nigerian Air Force,  Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police. He mentioned that it was a well-coordinated dawn attack on the fortress, where plans were been perfected to violently enforce the illegitimate sit-at-home declaration by the irredentist groups.

Lagos state commercial bus drivers to pay additional levy in addtion to what they pay to ‘agberos’

Mandatory Credit: Photo by AKINTUNDE AKINLEYE/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock (10975684f) A commercial bus driver calls for passengers at a bus park in Ikeja district of Lagos, Nigeria, 26 October 2020. Normalcy returns to Lagos metropolitan city after days of protests against the Nigeria rogue police, otherwise know as Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), as commuters and residents ply roads with little or no obstructions. Daily Life in Lagos after Protest against Rogue police, Nigeria - 26 Oct 2020

The Lagos State Government has signed an agreement for the collection of “Consolidated Informal Sector Transport Levy”  to harmonise dues collected by the government from commercial motorists at parks and garages across the State.

The government signed the agreement with the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, and others on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

The levy will see each commercial driver in the state pay a consolidated levy of N800 daily to be shared among government agencies and local governments.

The agencies to share the N800 collected are LAWMA, LIRS, LASEPA, Ministry of Transportation, Local Governments, among others.

With the levy, the LGs will not collect levy from commercial drivers anymore as their shares have been inculcated in the N800 levy per day for a commercial driver.

All commercial bus drivers will now be issued tax cards by the Lagos Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, annually for paying the N800 daily, which amounts to N292,000 yearly.

At the signing of the agreement at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, explained that the fees covered monies for not just the local government alone, but also that of clearing waste from the motor parks paid to LAWMA, and pollution dues which was collected by LASEPA.

Olowo said personal income taxes of the drivers would also be deducted from the levy.

“The consolidated transport levy will include the personal income tax of the drivers, include cost of taking care of parks, include money for Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA; LG money and others,” he said.

Olowo said the need to harmonise the transport collection levy process became paramount as other associations have template for collecting their dues.

He said that from findings, a commercial bus driver pays as much as N3,000 as levy on a daily basis to the various unions and government agencies, saying that has now been pegged at N800 per driver.

He said: “We want to reduce the fees payable. The levy will consolidate all levies; we want to build a reliable data base to know those who are doing businesses in our state. Bus drivers will get tax card. We want to bring about collaborative effort. It is imperative for Lagosians to know this is a remarkable achievement. An average danfo driver pay N3,000 daily. Once they pay from the point of entry, that is all. It is N800 charge per day.”

However, Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as ‘MC Oluomo’, made it clear that the harmonised levy introduced by the government does not affect tickets issued by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), DailyTrust reports.

He explained that the Union, in collaboration with the Road Transport Workers Union, (RTEAN), had approached the State Government to consolidate the fees collected by different LGAs and agencies to make collection easier for government.

He clarified that the new development affects only government levies but has nothing to do with the union dues charged.

Covid-19 pandemic stays as new variants emerge – WHO

The World Health Organization has said the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over, despite plummeting cases in Europe.

Director General of the UN health body,  Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned Tuesday, January 18, that people shouldn’t go with the narrative that the the Omicron variant is risk-free.

Omicron is much more contagious than previous strains but seems to cause less serious disease in patients.

That has triggered a debate on the virus passing from being a pandemic to becoming endemic – with the implication that the danger will have passed

But the WHO boss says the huge numbers of people infected means many vulnerable people will still fall ill and dye..

‘This pandemic is nowhere near over,’ Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters from WHO’s headquarters in Geneva.

‘Omicron may be less severe, on average, but the narrative that it is a mild disease is misleading,’ Tedros said.

“Make no mistake, Omicron is causing hospitalisations and deaths, and even the less severe cases are inundating health facilities.’

He said there were indications that the Omicron-fuelled surge of Covid cases may have peaked in some countries.

This, he said, ‘gives hope that the worst of this latest wave is done with, but no country is out of the woods yet.’

‘Now is not the time to give up and wave the white flag,’ he said. ‘We can still significantly reduce the impact of the current wave by sharing and using health tools effectively, and implementing public health and social measures that we know work.’

‘Vaccines may be less effective at preventing infection and transmission of Omicron than they were for previous variants, but they still are exceptionally good at preventing serious disease and death,’ he said.

‘With the incredible growth of Omicron globally, new variants are likely to emerge,’ Tedros cautioned.

British Govt. deploys its soldiers and weapons to Ukraine

The United Kingdom has sent troops and hi-tech weapons to Ukraine in a bid to help the former Soviet republic against a feared Russian invasion ‘in a matter of days’

In a clear signal to Russia’s president Vladimir Putin who has amassed over 100,000 troops to Ukraine’s border with Russia while also reportedly engineering a cyber attack on Ukraine last week, the UK flew two RAF transporter carrying missile systems to Kiev on Monday night, January 17.

UK Troops were aboard the planes and will remain in Ukraine to teach their counterparts how to combat Russian tanks, UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said.

The Kremlin has said it has ‘no plans’ to attack but the build-up of its troops, tanks and artillery pieces suggests otherwise.

Reminding President Putin that fighting Ukraine will ‘be a very, very bloody war’, Wallace told MPs:

‘The UK is providing a new security assistance package to increase Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. We have taken the decision to supply Ukraine with light, anti-armour, defensive weapon systems.

‘A small number of UK personnel will also provide early-stage training for a short period of time before then returning to the United Kingdom.’

But Germany, surprisingly didn’t allow the UK planes use it’s airspace in transporting the missile systems to Ukraine.

Germany says it will refuse to provide Ukraine with weapons, according to Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

She warned on a visit to Kiev that ‘any further escalation would carry a high price for the Russian regime – economic, political and strategic’ – and emphasized the need to continue negotiations.

‘We are prepared to have a serious dialogue with Russia, because diplomacy is the only way to defuse this highly dangerous situation,’ she added.

‘We made clear that we will do everything to avoid escalating the crisis,’ she said.

UK sends troops and Hi-Tech weapons to Ukraine amid fears Russia would invade in matter of days

Flightpath tracking data shows how British aircraft avoided German airspace en route to ferrying anti-armour weaponry to Ukraine.

‘I still remain hopeful that diplomacy will prevail,’ Wallace said.

‘It is President Putin’s whether to choose diplomacy and dialogue, or conflict and the consequences’

If Russia invades it will be the second time – having sent troops into the country’s eastern regions and Crimea in 2014.

Putin’s apparent intention is to prevent Ukraine joining Nato, the defensive alliance led by the US and the UK. L

Demands made by Putin to prevent Russia attacking Ukraine include the withdrawal of Nato troops from all former Soviet republics, which the US and NATO have rejected flatly.

Since the break-up of the Soviet Union, Ukraine has become allies with Western nations like US, UK, France and Canada and its government is desperate to join Nato and the EU – moves Russia strongly opposes.

Putin wants Ukraine back under Moscow’s control as part of his ‘sphere of influence’ strategy to redraw the political map of Eastern Europe so as to have former Soviet Republics under his control. He has already succeeded in Belarus, with both countries sharing mutual defense agreements.

US top airline companies warn of the catastrophic disruption if 5G is used near airports

The 10 biggest airlines in the United States have warned the government of catastrophic flight disruptions that could occur if 5G is used near airports.

According to the airlines, flight disruptions could occur due to technology interference and that “trade from the land will grind to a halt and cause economic calamity’ if Verizon and AT&T deploy more segments of their new 5G mobile internet technology.

The letter submitted on Tuesday, January 18 is in anticipation of Verizon and AT&T ‘s plan to install more segments of new 5G mobile internet technology around/in airports.

The airlines executives urged the administration of President Joe Biden, to prohibit 5G wireless transmissions near certain airports, warning of a possible aviation-industry meltdown.

In the letter to the US Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg and other top United States federal officials, the airlines asked the government to prohibit 5G transmissions within 2 miles (3.2km) of runways at affected airports. High-speed 5G internet uses  C-band frequencies close to those used by aircraft to measure their altitude.

The airlines say the technology can interfere with the instruments and create serious safety hazards.  The airlines warned the new C-Band 5G service set to begin on Wednesday could render a significant number of widebody aircraft unusable and “could potentially strand tens of thousands of Americans overseas” and cause “chaos” for US flights.

In anc excerpt of the letter, the chief executives of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, UPS Airlines, Alaska Air, Atlas Air, JetBlue Airways and FedEx Express and others, said:

“Unless our major hubs are cleared to fly, the vast majority of the trave

Kenyan music guru joined illuminati at 23 – he claims

A Kenyan music producer Magix Enga has claimed that he joined Illuminati at 23 to gain fame and wealth.

Sharing his experience in the “underworld community” in an interview with a local news platform, Enga said he joined the group due to difficulties he faced at home.

He said;

You know, in the past you either went to church or did something else to make money. So I saw ‘aish bro! When will I leave? Trouble on the street bro; I don’t have a car, I don’t have anything so I had to get in there

The music producer claimed he was introduced to the group after meeting a lady who promised to make him successful and famous. He further claimed that the woman introduced him to some of the world’s top artistes including American producer and DJ Khaled Mohamed Khaled who is commonly known as DJ Khaled.

Enga said;

The Illuminati is real, I did it when I was 23, 24 years old and now I am turning 30.

She told me she could link me to the big musicians who went through it and became successful. and the first musician that she linked me with through the phone was DJ Khaled.

Alleging that the woman promised to change his life within three months if he joined Illuminati, Enga disclosed that his life indeed changed after joining them. He said that he bought his first car two months after meeting the said woman.

Speaking on the prize he paid for joining Illuminati, Enga said that he did not give any human sacrifice to pay for the good life he had. He said that the only sacrifice he gave was his blood.

Showing off scars on his body, the music producer said;

I was just donating blood. I was being stabbed and they were donating blood. I offer myself as a sacrifice

Enga further revealed that he has since left the group and is now saved. He however noted that coming out of Illuminati came with a price, as he had to lose everything that he gained while in it as well as getting involved in a serious car accident.

Justice Binta Nyako tells DSS she doesn’t want to see Nnamdi Kanu in Fendi outfit again

Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja federal high court, has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to change his clothes.

Nyako gave the order after Kanu’s lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome drew her attention to the alleged maltreatment his client has been subjected to in DSS custody.

Alleging that Kanu is still being kept in solitary confinement, Ozekhome further revealed that inmates who greeted him were also being subjected to same treatment.

He added that this is contrary to Justice Nyako’s order to the DSS, to allow the IPOB leader to practise his faith, have his bath, change his clothes and eat properly.

Reiterating her previous order that the IPOB leader should be allowed the maximum comfort possible, including changing his Fendi outfit with which he was brought back into the country in June 2021, Justice Nyako also reminded Kanu’s counsel that a detention facility is not a five-star hotel.

She said;

“I don’t want to see him in these clothes again. This one is almost off-white. Also, make sure that you allow him to exercise.”

Indonesian student sells a 1000 selfies in 5 years as NFTs for $1million

An Indonesian student has become a millionaire after selling thousands of selfies as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) for more than $1million.

22-year-old Sultan Gustaf Al Ghozali, studying computer science at a university in the central city of Semarang, earned his newfound fortune after taking pictures of himself every single day for around five years.

Each picture is slightly different but features the same distinctive expressionless face, as he sits in front of his computer screen.

Indonesian student becomes a millionaire after selling a thousand selfies as NFTs for $1million

According to Mail Online, his initial idea behind the photos was to create a video time-lapse showing a snapshot of every single day he spent studying, which he could then use at his graduation.

But after earning about Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) he decided to try selling the funny-looking photos so as to see his face on other people’s collections.

The report said his photos officially went up for sale on the platform Opensea in December and after a celebrity chef snapped a few of the images up last week, he was flooded with more than 400 people purchasing the ownership rights to his images.

This high demand saw the price of his collection, under the title ‘Ghozali Everyday’, eventually surpass $1million.

On Friday one selfie was available for 0.247 of the cryptocurrency ether ($806) after demand shot up.

France24 reports he said: ‘I never thought anybody would want to buy the selfies, which is why I only priced them at $3’.

Ghozali also revealed that he hasn’t been able to find the courage yet to tell his parents about the money he has made.

On his plan for the money,  Ghozali said he would invest the money he has made from his NFTs and set up his own animation studio. He will also continue to take the daily selfies until he graduates.

NFT, a Non-Fungible Token  is a unique digital token encrypted with an artist’s signature and which verifies its ownership and authenticity and is permanently attached to the piece.

US Senate candidate campaigns and smokes marijuana in his electoral campaign ad (video)

Gary Chambers, a man who is running for a seat in the U.S. Senate representing Louisiana, has posted a new video announcing his campaign.

In the video released Tuesday, January 18 on his YouTube channel, Chambers is seen smoking marijuana in an outdoor leather armchair.

“Every 37 seconds, someone is arrested for possession of marijuana,” Chambers said in the new video.

“Since 2010, state and local police have arrested an estimated 7.3 million Americans for violating marijuana laws – over half of all drug arrests.”

He continued, “Black people are four times more likely to be arrested for marijuana laws than white people. States waste 3.7 billion dollars enforcing marijuana laws every year. Most of the people police are arrested aren’t dealers, but rather people with small amounts of pot. Just like me.”

Court orders Nigerian Govt. to pay Nnamdi Kanu N1Billion for illegal arrest

Justice Benson Anya of the Abia State High Court has ruled that the invasion of the security agents to the residence of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in 2017 was unlawful and an infringement on his human rights.

Kanu had approached the Court demanding N5 billion over the invasion of his father’s house by the military on September 10, 2017.

Delivering judgment today January 19, the presiding judge also ruled that Kanu’s arrest and forceful return to Nigeria in June 2021 was “illegal” under local and international laws.

The presiding judge also ruled that the Federal government should pay Kanu the sum of N1billion as compensation for the violation of his fundamental human rights.

The court also recommended a political solution to the agitation for the restoration of the defunct Biafra Republic championed by IPOB.

Husband drugged and presented his naked wife to his colleague to rape her

A husband who fantasized about seeing someone sleep with his wife of 23 years drugged and blindfolded his wife then got his colleague to rape her.

The harrowing story was told at Singapore Supreme Court this week.

None of the people involved in the case have been named, due to the nature of the crimes committed.

In 2017, a 47-year-old man accepted the invitation of his married work colleague to go to his home and “rape his unconscious wife”, Channel News Asia reports.

The husband and his work colleague had become close having worked together for a number of years. So, the husband who wanted to watch someone sleep with his wife, got his work friend to do it.

The husband had given his wife drugs and alcohol then invited his work colleague to sleep with her while he watches.

At the time of the offence, the woman was 44, and had three schooling children with her husband.

The woman’s three children and domestic helper were asleep in another room while this was going on.

However, the would-be rapist was stopped by his own body, as his erectile dysfunction made it impossible for him to complete the crime.

The woman regained consciousness during the ordeal, removed the blindfold she was wearing and quickly realised what was happened.

The colleague fled the scene.

The woman demanded that her husband and his colleague write confession letters, which they did.

In the letter, the colleague admitted what had happened, including his sexual issue.

He was later tested for, and found to have suffered from, erectile dysfunction.

The colleague pleaded guilty to one charge of abetment of conspiracy to commit rape, where the rape did not occur, and a second charge of outrage of modesty.

The colleague was jailed for three years on Thursday, January 13.

There are another six men involved in the “wife-sharing” scheme, who will be appearing in court next month.

Four are thought to be pleading guilty, one is undecided, while the final male is allegedly going to plead not guilty, local news reports state

Fundamental error’ left child murder case unsolved for more than 20 years, court hears

The murder of a six-year-old boy was unsolved for more than two decades due to a “fundamental error”, a court has been told.

James Watson was 13 when he is alleged to have attacked Rikki Neave and strangled him with his own jacket on 28 November, 1994, the Old Bailey heard.

According to police, he stripped Rikki’s body and posed him in a “star shape” in the woods before leaving his clothes in a bin.

Watson, now 40, was seen with Rikki on the day he went missing and police spoke to him at the time as a witness.

Rikki’s mother was accused of the murder and child cruelty but, while she admitted child cruelty, the jury cleared her of the murder in 1996.

Prosecutor John Price QC told the Old Bailey that the jury’s decision to clear Rikki’s mother on the murder charge was correct.

“Fundamental error”

Mr Price added that the “error” that saw her charged with murder was largely due to incorrect weight given to sightings of Rikki at a time when reliable evidence showed he was dead.

“Much of this reliable evidence was itself acquired during the first investigation, but its true significance and importance was misunderstood or ignored.

“This fundamental error deflected the focus of attention of the investigation.

“It took it away from where it should have been.”

That error meant Rikki’s murder remained a mystery until the case was reopened in 2015 and adhesive tapes from Rikki’s clothes were examined.

This allowed the DNA match to Watson to be made.

Mr Price said evidence showed Rikki had walked willingly into the woods where he was subjected to a “surprise attack” from behind.

Marks on his neck suggested he was “most likely” strangled with his own jacket.

At 1.05pm that day, a youth had been seen walking out of a cul-de-sac where Rikki’s clothes were later recovered.

Mr Price also told the jury that Watson was “exhibiting a grotesque interest in the subject of child murder” in late November 1994.

Watson, of no fixed address, has denied murder.

A 13-year-old seventh grader has reportedly died from overdosing on opiod fentanyl at his Connecticut school.

Confirming the death of the student, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said;

“We still have much to learn about the circumstances of this tragedy, and about how a child had access to such a shocking quantity of such deadly drugs, and our police department will continue their investigation and seek to hold accountable the adults who ultimately are responsible for this child’s death.

“In the meantime, our prayers are with everyone touched by this loss, and we will do everything we can to support the SMSA community.”

Hartford Courant reported that officials who responded with drug-sniffing dogs after the boy and two other seventh graders were rushed to a hospital on Thursday, found nearly 40 bags of the narcotic hidden in multiple locations within the school.

The terrorism charges against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu has been amended by the federal government.

Lassa Fever ravages Oyo communities as 2 confirmed dead

The Oyo State government has confirmed the death of two people with many hospitalised at the State General Hospital following the outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bode Ladipo, made this known in a statement issued on Monday January 17, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, stating that the state government is doing everything possible to curtail the further spread of the virus.

The statement read in part: “The attention of the Ministry was drawn to reported cases of deaths at Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State on Wednesday, 12th January 2022. The deaths were said to have been associated with fever, gastrointestinal symptoms and some neck swelling.

“This warranted a high-level investigating team led by the Honourable Commissioner for Health to visit the LGA on Thursday, 13th January 2022 to assess the situation and provide the necessary support to abate any further transmission of the illness.

“The team comprised of senior officials of the Ministry, the State Primary Healthcare Board, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“An initial visit to the State General Hospital at Iwere lle revealed the fact that there was an increase in a number of cases brought from the Gaa Agbaruru settlement with confirmation of two (2) deaths at the facility. The team was then led to Gaa Agbaruru, a Fulani settlement in Iwere ward of the LGA where the victims of the illness came from.

“It was observed that there were cases with symptoms mentioned above but were recuperating. It was also confirmed that there was indeed a high degree of contact between the inhabitants, rodents and bats. In addition, the challenge of having potable water was noted.

“Blood samples were taken from the recuperating individuals with samples of water also taken. These samples were sent to the National Reference Laboratory for Haemorrhagic Fever in Abuja for analysis and confirmation.

“The result of the investigation from the Reference Laboratory was received today, 17th January 2022 with two (2) of the ten (10) samples testing positive for Lassa Fever.

“As such, the Ministry has repositioned doses of antiviral agents for the treatment of the Lassa Fever cases and personal protective devices for the health care providers at Iwere lle and Iganna. Health education and environmental sanitation are presently ongoing in the communities.

“The State Surveillance System has been augmented across all Local Governments in the state. Suspected cases are to be referred to the nearest Government Hospital for free and quality care.”

Taking the 4th Covid vaccine does not prevent ‘lots of infections’ from Omicron – study finds

The fourth dose of the Covid vaccine is not effective on the Omicron variant and provides only limited defence, a preliminary study in Israel has found.

Israel’s Sheba Medical Center began administering the fourth vaccine to more than 270 medical staff last month during a trial program.

According to Mail Online, experts studied the defence of the Pfizer booster in 154 people after two weeks and the Moderna booster in 120 people, who had previously been vaccinated three times with the Pfizer vaccine after one week.

The clinical trial found that both groups showed increases in antibodies ‘slightly higher’ than following the third vaccine last year. But it said the increased antibodies did not prevent the spread of Omicron.

‘Despite increased antibody levels, the fourth vaccine only offers a partial defense against the virus,’ said Dr. Gili Regev-Yochay, director of the hospital’s infection disease unit. ‘The vaccines, which were more effective against previous variants, offer less protection versus omicron.’

She added: “The vaccine, which was very effective against the previous strains, is less effective against the Omicron strain.

‘We see an increase in antibodies, higher than after the third dose. However, we see many infected with Omicron who received the fourth dose. Granted, a bit less than in the control group, but still a lot of infections.

‘The bottom line is that the vaccine is excellent against the Alpha and Delta [variants], for Omicron it’s not good enough.’

Dr. Nahman Ash, director of Israel’s Health Ministry, said the research did not mean the fourth vaccine effort was a mistake.

‘It returns the level of antibodies to what it was at the beginning of the third booster. That has great importance, especially among the older population,’ he told Channel 13 TV.

But he said the research would be taken into account as authorities debate whether to expand the additional booster campaign to the broader population.

‘N10 Trillion lost by Nigerian businesses over Twitter Ban’ – Chinyere Almona says

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) on Friday, Jan. 14, estimated that Nigerian businesses lost N10.72 trillion ($26.1billion) within 222 days President Muhammdu Buhari shut down Twitter operations across Nigeria.

Chinyere Almona, the director-general of LCCI, said in a statement: “In business terms, the cost of the seven-month shutdown of Twitter operations in Nigeria is estimated to be N10.72 trillion (26.1billion dollars) according to Netblock’s Cost of Shutdown Tool.”

Ms Almona, while stating that Twitter is a viable tool for businesses in Nigeria, said the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria was “well-received and commendable.”

“Digital platforms have become a viable tool for business operations and governance in engaging with diversified audiences and boosting digital transactions,” she noted.

She further appealed to the Buhari government to create an enabling environment that supports global technology companies.

“When this happens Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and revenue mobilisation will receive a boost through tax revenues from these companies,” she said.

“Currently, the Information and Communications Technology sector is one of the growth drivers in the economy even as we see additional activities of digital platforms adding more potential to the sector,” she added.

The Buhari government banned Twitter operations in Nigeria on June 5, 2021, and lifted the ban on Wednesday, Jan, 12.

Real Madrid plans to sign Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland for £292M

Spanish giant, Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a financial package worth £292million to secure the services of both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

The Spanish side, who have been long-term admirers of the footballers,  are eager to close a deal with the duo ahead of the 2022-2023 season. They are developing a package that will cover each player’s transfer fees, wages, and agent’s commission.

According to Marca, Real Madrid are trying to secure a deal with Haaland and Mbappe as soon as possible given the vast amount of interest in their services.

Haaland has scored an astonishing 78 goals in 77 games in all competitions for Dortmund since moving to the Bundesliga in January from RB Salzburg in 2020.

His goalscoring return has made him one of European football’s hottest footballers, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and City all linked with the Dortmund striker in the past 18 months.

On Friday, Haaland acknowledged that he would make a decision on his future soon.

Haaland said: ‘They have started to put a lot of pressure on me and I have to accept that. I have chosen not to say anything out of respect for the club and the fans.

‘But now that a lot of pressure is coming from the club, so it is the time to get things started. It means things will happen now.

‘I have said from the beginning I want to focus on football, because that’s when I am at my best. Not when other things come into my mind.

Asked when he expected to come to a decision, the Norwegian replied: ‘Not now because we’re in the middle of a difficult period with a lot of games. All I want to do is to play football, but I can’t do that now. ‘

Meanwhile, Mbappe has been linked with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain due to his deal expiry this summer.

Reports suggested he was pushing for a departure last summer, but PSG are determined to keep him and are even said to have turned down a £134million bid from Real Madrid.

The Ligue 1 side valued the France World Cup winner at closer to £175million, deterring Los Blancos from making another offer with his contract up at the end of June.

India: People lined up to worship rare calf born with three eyes and four nostrils

A three-eyed cow born in India has been dubbed a “divine miracle” and villagers have been queueing up to worship it after it was claimed to be a reincarnation of Hindu God, Shiva.

The rare calf was born with an extra eye on its forehead and four nostrils.

Some residents of the village of Chhattisgarh in the Rajnandgaon District in India claim the three-eyed calf is a reincarnation of Viswanatha, a God known for having an eye on their forehead.

A large number of people flocked from nearby villages to worship the cow, believing it to be the re-birth of Shiva, Sputnik reported.

The calf, born on January 14, attracted large crowds of people who offered incense sticks, coconuts, and money as per the custom of the local culture.

Some say the timing of the calf’s birth, which was born just as the Hindu festival of harvesting, Makar Sankranti, started, is no coincidence. Many believed the arrival of the calf to be of religious significance.

Speaking to Indian news agency ANI, villager Neelkumar Verma said: “I have never seen any three-eyed being. Only Lord Shiva had it. It is a divine miracle. An incarnation of the Lord himself.”

While the birth of the anima was linked with the Hindu God, a veterinary doctor has disagreed with the comparison.

Doctor Kamlesh Chaudhary said that such cases should not be considered miraculous as such things happen due to the abnormal development of the embryo.

Celebrity couple planning surrogate pregnancy

A 61-year-old grandmother who recently married a 24-year-old man has revealed how they’re planning on having a baby via a surrogate, after attempts to conceive naturally failed.

Cheryl McGregor from Rome, Georgia, first met Quran McCain in 2012, while they were both working at American fast food chain Dairy Queen.

At the time, Quran was 15 years old while mum-of-seven Cheryl was 52, and the pair didn’t initially spark up a romance. It was when they reconnected in 2020 that their relationship blossomed.

Quran’s own grandmother is six years younger than Cheryl, who has 17 grandchildren of their own, and their age gap sparked criticism when they posted videos of themselves online.

The couple married in September 2021 and started discussing having a baby soon after.

Due to Cheryl’s age, attempts to conceive naturally were unsuccessful, so the couple began looking into surrogacy and adoption, saying they “feel they deserve children of their own.”

“We prefer surrogacy, however, we have seen a lot of people embroiled in legal complications far after the child is born,” Quran said.

“We are looking for a nice surrogate who is willing to sign a contract to have nothing to do with the child after it’s born.

“We don’t want people trying to have a baby for us for financial gain, we are not that financially inclined ourselves.

“With adoption, we are looking for a biracial baby so the baby would know, ‘I have half black and half white parents,’ so he [or she] would feel that we are his true parents.”

Cheryl’s daughters were initially considered to carry the couple’s baby, but both have had hysterectomies so were unsuitable.

On top of the considerations over who the surrogate may be, Quran and Cheryl have also had to have tough conversations over how their age gap may impact raising a child.

“We understand that I may not be there for as long as Quran is but I have faith in him,” Cheryl explained.

“If I am not here he can do it. He’s gonna be a great father, he’s a responsible adult. I had every bit of faith that he could raise our child and do it very well.”

They’ve also gained the backing of their relatives, with Cheryl adding: “Our family is also very supportive of our decision to have children, at first they were hesitant for the same reasons.

“However, now five of my children have come to accept the idea and my mother-in-law and I make videos together.”

A’paralysed’ man gets well after taking Covid vaccine

A man left unable to use his legs or voice since an accident in 2017 has shocked medics by walking and talking, and he says it is thanks to the “miracle” covid vaccine.

Dularchand Munda, 55, had a spine injury after he suffered a car crash. This left him bedridden and unable to speak.

But hours after being given the Covishield vaccine, he says he could feel his legs moving again and even managed to walk around, with the help of a walking stick.

Also, he has been able to talk for the first time since the accident, NDTV reported.

Dularchand, from Salgadih village, India, said: “Glad to have taken this vaccine. I can move my legs after taking the vaccine on January 4.

“My voice came back and my feet also moved.”

Footage shows the granddad getting to his feet and walking around.

Dularchand’s family says he was treated after the car crash four years ago but he never regained the ability to walk, until now.

Dr Jitendra Kumar said: “Amazed to see this. But it needs to be ascertained by scientists.

“Had he recovered from a medical condition not more than some days old, it could be understood but recovering suddenly from a four-year-old medical condition after taking the vaccine is unbelievable.”

Albel Kerketta, in charge of Petarwar health centre, added: “Accurate information and answers will be available in the coming days when the medical world will conduct research on Dularchand Munda’s illness and his recovery.”

Late Prince’s estate valued at $156.4 million as his family fight for control

The six-year legal battle over pop superstar Prince’s estate has ended, meaning the process of distributing the artist’s wealth could begin next month.

The star’s wealth, which totaled $156.4 million, was fought over by a number of that star’s potential heirs because the Purple Rain singer did not leave a will before his untimely death at 57 in 2016.

The Internal Revenue Service and Comerica Bank & Trust, the estate’s administrator, finally came to an agreement on the valuation after giving wildly different estimations at the beginning.

While the government agency originally set their opinion at $163.2 million, Comerica Bank & Trust gave a much more modest value of $82.3 million.

Prince died of a fentanyl overdose in 2016. His heirs started a legal battle following his death. Two of Prince’s six sibling heirs, Alfred Jackson and John R. Nelson, have since died. Two others are in their 80s.

‘It has been a long six years,’ an attorney for three of Prince’s siblings L. Londell McMillan said at a hearing on Friday.

According to ABC News, administrator’s will evenly divide the estate between the three oldest heirs and a New York music company called Primary Wave.

The agreement the sides came to in October resulted in the IRS dropping a $6.4 million ‘accuracy-related penalty’ it had levied. The Minnesota Department of Revenue also dropped their own penalty.

The valuation on the property may be huge, but the taxes on it will also be large. Taxes are expected to total tens of millions of dollars.

Approximately $5 million of the money will be tax-free under federal law but the remaining amount will be taxed at 40%.

Minnesota state tax exempts $3 million of the money but will tax it at 16% after that.

Agressive US Policeman shoved his female colleague into their patrol car after she tried to pull him off suspect (video)

A police sergeant in Florida, US has been demoted to office work after he was seen on video grabbing a fellow officer by her throat and shoving her into patrol car.

Police in Sunrise, Florida have shared body camera footage of an incident that took place November 19.

Everyone in the video had their face blurred except for Sergeant Christopher Pullease, 46, a 21-year veteran of the force who assaulted a female officer.

Sunrise police say they were detaining a suspect who was ‘verbally and physically resistive’ when officer Pullease came on the scene and got aggressive, Chief Anthony Rosa said in a statement.

Pullease (pictured bottom left)  then got into a verbal altercation with the suspect, who was already sitting inside a police car.

The female officer approaches Pullease from behind and pulled him by the back of his duty belt, in line with the department’s policies.

Pullease then turned around while backpedaling as he was pulled, then put his hand at the other officer’s throat before pushing her backward until she hit a nearby police patrol car.

Rosa said that Pullease was ‘inappropriate and unprofessional’ in the situation and added that he ‘unnecessarily elevated the demeanor of the suspect.’

In an interview with local TV station, Rosa was asked why Pullease hasn’t already been charged in the three months since the incident, with a reporter pointing out that any civilian who put their hands on an officer’s throat would face charges.

‘So there’s some details of the investigation that I’ve not disclosed, that I’m unable to disclose right now, and if any of the information that comes up during the investigation rises to a level of criminal behavior or criminal conduct, then we’ll address it appropriately,’ Rosa responded.

Novak Djokovic maybe banned from the French Open in France soon

Tennis star, Novak Djokovic could face more trouble at the next Grand Slam after France insisted on a covid pass barring the unvaccinated from all sports arenas.

The French Open is the next Slam in the tennis calendar taking place in May and Djokovic was expected to participate without complication, but the new Covid Pass could see him banned.

France’s lower house voted by 215 to 58 to give final approval to a vaccine pass that will exclude the unvaccinated from restaurants, sports arenas and other venues. It will apply to everybody over the age of 16 and the law will take effect shortly, meaning it will throw Djokovic’s participation at Roland Garros in doubt.

Stanislas Guerin, who represents the 17th and 18th arrondissements in Paris, said: ‘Djokovic’s behaviour was irresponsible. Australia is a sovereign country which makes it rules and the rules should be respected.

‘We can’t have two weights and two measures regarding the Covid Pass. If you are called Djoko, Nadal or Mr Whoever, you respect the rules.

‘All the big events which will take place in France will adopt the Covid Pass. Who would understand if we asked our citizens to make an effort and respect the rules and we then authorised some to get out of them?’

The news comes after Djokovic was deported from Australia after his visa was cancelled by authorities in the country.  He has been banned from the country for three years.

Djokovic left Australia late on Sunday night after 12 days of a legal battle over his exemption to get vaccinated.

Suspected Iranian drone attacks near Abu Dhabi’s Airport (Photos)

Three people have been killed with six wounded in Abu Dhabi following suspected drone attacks carried out by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

A fire broke out at an extension of Abu Dhabi’s main international airport and three fuel tanker trucks exploded in the Musaffah area near the storage facilities of ADNOC, Abu Dhabi’s state-owned oil company, on Monday, UAE state news agency WAM reported, citing the police.

One Pakistani national and two Indian nationals were killed after the fuel trucks exploded, the report said.

The six people who were wounded in the attack are suffering mild and medium injuries, officials added.

UAE police said preliminary investigations indicated the detection of small flying objects, possibly belonging to drones, that fell in the two areas and may have caused the explosion and fire.

Police closed the road leading to the area.

“Initial investigations found parts of a small plane that could possibly be a drone at both sites that could have caused the explosion and the fire,” Abu Dhabi police said.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, claimed on Monday they had launched the attack on the UAE, without elaborating.

The UAE has been part of a Saudi-led military campaign against the Houthi rebels in Yemen since 2015. On Thursday, the Saudi-led coalition said they detected multiple explosive-laden drones launched from the airport in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, which is controlled by Houthis.

“Operations like this will continue so long as the offensive and blockade continue and it will encompass strategic targets,” tweeted Ali al-Qhoom, a member of the Houthi’s political bureau. “These operations will happen within the context of a legitimate response to the crimes and attacks of the UAE in Yemen.”

Yahya Saree, the Houthi military spokesman, said in a Twitter post that an “important statement” is coming to “announce a special military operation in the depth of UAE”.

The suspected drone attack comes as the Saudi-led coalition said on Monday it had destroyed three explosive-laden drones launched in the direction of southern Saudi Arabia from Sana’a airport in Yemen, Saudi State TV reported.

It was not immediately clear whether the drone launch from Sana’a was related to the suspected attacks in Abu Dhabi.

North Korean Cyber criminals stole over $400M in cryptocurrency last year – Report claims

North Korean hackers reportedly stole nearly $400 million worth of cryptocurrency in 2021, making it one of the most lucrative years for cybercriminals in the impoverished and severely isolated country.

According to a new report by Chainalysis, a firm that tracks cryptocurrency, hackers launched at least seven different attacks in 2021, targeting investment firms and centralized exchanges with a variety of tactics, including phishing, malware and social engineering.

The cybercriminals worked to gain access to organizations’ “hot” wallets — digital wallets that are connected to the internet — and then move funds into North Korea controlled accounts.

The report is the latest indication that North Korea which is heavily sanctioned by the US and UN continues to rely on a network of hackers to help fund its domestic nuclear program.

A confidential United Nations report last year accused the regime of North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, of conducting “operations against financial institutions and virtual currency exchange houses” to pay for weapons and keep North Korea’s economy afloat.

Last February, the US Justice Department charged three North Koreans for conspiring to steal more than $1.3 billion from banks and companies around the world and orchestrating digital heists of cryptocurrency.

According to Chainalysis, most of last year’s thefts were carried out by the Lazarus Group, a hacking group with links to North Korea that has previously been linked to the hack on Sony Pictures.

“North Korea is, in most respects, cut off from the global financial system by a long sanctions campaign by the US and foreign partners.” said Nick Carlsen, analyst at blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs.

“As a result they have taken to the digital battlefield to steal crypto in, essentially, [a] bank robbery at the speed of the internet, to fund weapons programs, nuclear proliferation and other destabilizing activities.”

“As the cryptocurrency market grows more popular we are likely to see continued interest by North Korea to target crypto businesses that are young and building out cyber defenses and anti-money laundering controls,” said Carlsen.
