‘There is Rivers of tears and blood flowing from #Ukraine’ – Pope Francis slams President #Putin

Pope Francis has said that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is ‘not a military operation, but a war’ while criticizing President Vladimir Putin.

During his Angelus address to the world, the head of the Catholic Church led this Sunday’s prayer at the Vatican with the Russian invasion of Ukraine as his point of focus, making calls to stop the war and to allow humanitarian corridors to keep people safe.

In his address, the Pope said: ‘Rivers of blood and tears are flowing in Ukraine. This is not just a military operation but a war which is sowing death, destruction and misery.’

In a prayer said for the first Sunday of Lent, Pope Francis spoke at the Vatican in the Apostolic Palace overlooking St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, facing thousands of people, with many holding Ukrainian flags or placards with messages of solidarity with the country under attack.

He said of the conflict: ‘True happiness and freedom do not lie in possessing, but in sharing, not taking advantage of others but in loving them, not in the obsession of power, but in the joy of service.

‘We must be vigilant because they often present themselves under an apparent form of good. In fact, the devil, who is cunning, always uses deception, and [he even knows] how to disguise himself with sacred, apparently religious motives.’

The Pope also noted that there are ‘no compromises with evil’, much like there has been little compromise from President Putin on his devastating actions on Ukraine.

‘Let us take time for silence and prayer, during which we can stop and look at what is stirring in our hearts…’ he said.

‘Placing ourselves before the Word of God in prayer, so that a positive fight against the evil that enslaves us, a fight for freedom, may take place within us.’

“Why I allowed my teenage son to impregnate me” – Mother narrates

Matina Agawua, an indigene of Yelwata, a small settlement in Nasarawa State, has recounted the reason for being involved in incest

In an interview with The Nation, Agawua said when she lost her first husband, she decided to remain a widow for 13 years.

She said but she could not conceive in the marriage which had lasted more than six years.

The woman said her in-laws threatened to show her the way out on the ground of not being able to have a child for their son.

“We had been married for more than six years but were still childless due to my husband’s fault, according to doctor’s report, and I was hearing from the grapevine that he was planning to take a second wife on the grounds that I could not give him a child.”

She said while she took fertility test, her husband did not deem it necessary to go for a medical check-up to ascertain the source of the problem.

She said she suspected that her husband was suffering from low sperm count which made him unable to father a child as the test she took showed that there was nothing wrong with her.

The woman said it was amid this crisis that she slept with her only son from her first marriage.

She added that to further convince herself about her fertility status, she decided to lure her son, a student in Akwanga, into a secret affair .

She said: “Since he is not comfortable with us going for medical checkup on the assumption that nothing was wrong with him, I decided to convince my little son, who is just about 16 years old and schooling in Akwanga

“I visited him regularly. He stays in a private apartment with my relatives, so I was going there to spend some time with them, especially on weekends when my market is off.

“It was actually difficult making love with my own son, but circumstances forced me to go into it. I needed to be sure of my fertility.

“I know my husband very well. If he discovered I had an affair with a man outside, he would kill me.

“I love him so much and I’m afraid of him, so this evil plan kept ringing in my mind to know how fertile I am. I tried to visit my son in Akwanga mostly when I was on my ovulation period. I decided to develop a crush on him and draw him very close to me. We got intimate and ended up having s*x.

“One faithful day while I was on my ovulation period, I visited him. It was at about 11pm. I held his hand and made him sit beside me.

“I asked him if he had ever had s*x and he said no. I held him in my arms. This time, I felt warm and I think he too did. After that night, I felt extremely embarrassed, and guilty that I committed such an abomination with my own son.

“It was actually a taboo, but I warned him to keep it secret.”

#Russian Banks to Switch to Chinese Union Pay, As #Ukrainian Airport ‘completely destroyed’ by Russian missiles

Several Russian banks said on Sunday they would soon start issuing cards using the Chinese UnionPay card operator’s system coupled with Russia’s own Mir network, after Visa and MasterCard said they were suspending operations in Russia.

Announcements regarding the switch to UnionPay came on Sunday from Sberbank, Russia’s biggest lender, as well as Alfa Bank and Tinkoff.

A barrage of Russian missiles destroyed the airport in Vinnytsia in central Ukraine today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says.

“I have just been informed about a missile strike on Vinnytsia. Eight rockets… The airport was completely destroyed,” he says

Nigerian Govt. should apologize to the Igbos – Sowore suggests

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential aspirant and the convener of ‘Revolution Now’, during the week declared his 2023 presidential ambition before a crowd of supporters.

In his words he says “Nigeria needs a revolution of total freedom of the Nigerian people” and that Nigeria should apologize to the Igbos for the monumental injustices meted on them.

He also told the Yoruba agitators not to leave Nigeria for those that destroyed it but that the oppressors in government are the ones to leave the country when he becomes president.

Sowore is contesting on the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC).

More Russian commandos killed by Ukrainian Snipers in Ukraine – Officials claims

Two more Russian commanders have been killed on the frontline in Ukraine after a top general was shot dead by snipers, a Western official has claimed.

Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky, 47, was reportedly killed by a Ukrainian sniper while the latest deaths since Russia invaded last week, were also both senior officers.

One was a divisional commander and the other was a regimental commander, the Telegraph has reported.

The Western official believes this is down to the commanders having to get ‘closer to the front’ as Russia feels progress still has not been made in Ukraine.

‘The reason why that’s happening is that commanders feel they have to move further forward to get greater impetus and control over operations,’ the official said.

‘That’s an indication perhaps of some degree of frustration, some degree of lack of progress and they’re trying to impose their personality onto the battlefield and then putting themselves at personal risk.’

Mr. Sukhovetsky, who was the deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Central Military District, died on Wednesday as Ukrainian defence forces repelled the Russian offensive.

His death, announced on social media by his colleague Sergey Chipilyov, was widely reported by several Russian and Ukrainian news outlets and a military source confirmed that he was killed ‘by a sniper’.

After days of denial, the Kremlin on Wednesday admitted that 498 of its troops have been killed and 1,600 injured in the ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine, but the true figure is said to be higher than that.

Kyiv says Russia has now lost around 9,200 men in the fighting, along with hundreds of tanks, almost a thousand armored vehicles, and dozens of helicopters and jets.

Nnewi’s Billionaire,Chief Cletus Ibeto set to Join full time Politics — By Onyeachonam

…Sacks Over 1000 workers

…Shutdown 90% of his Manufacturing Investments earnings

…May contest for Anambra South Senatorial Ticket
…Seeks To Use Nnewi Cathedral project as his Campaign Tool

… Kickstarts Akwamozu , Akwa Nkwu, Ikuputa Nwa, Umu Asa event going campaign strategy

My investigative report and collaborated by a reliable informant has revealed the current body language of Chief Cletus Ibeto is indicative that he is now set to become a full time politician and with the following steps and decisions he has taken already, it doesn’t take a soothsayer to know where he is headed. Below are some of the steps taken by Ibeto to enable him to fully concentrate on his new line of career:

95% of his businesses haved closed… e.g

1. Union Battery …. Gone Moribund… Workers sacked while a Chinese firm in Aba have taken over the once lucrative business that employs a lot of our people

2. Union and Ibeto Brake Pad … Plant closed … Workers sacked

3. Union Brake lining … Plant closed … Workers sacked

4. Motorcycle fender … Closed … Workers sacked

5. Battery Lead Factory at Umuzu … Factory closed … Workers sacked

6. Clutch Plate plant … Closed …. Workers sacked

7. Wheel cover plant … Closed … Workers sacked

8. Photo studio … Closed

9. Marble plant … Closed

10. Rear light cover … Closed

11. Traffic indicator cover … Closed

12. Fan belt …. Closed

13. Vehicle Front Grille …. Closed

14. Motorcycle Traffic Indicator Plant…closed

15..Motor rear light plant… closed

16. All spare parts and machinery … Closed

17. Workforce … 90% sacked (over 1000 out of about 1200)

18. Kings Palace Hotel Main … Working at 15% capacity … reduced room rates to 5000 Naira per night and 2500 Naira for short time, Generator set goes off from 6am to 7pm unless there is a paid event, with fans not air condition

19. Kings Palace Hotel Extension opposite Nnewi High School …. Closed completely

20. Warehouses in Lagos …. On lease to 3rd parties with some converted to event center.

21. Tank Farm in Lagos … On Lease to 3rd parties

The only unit working in the entire Ibeto Group are some estates as well as the Lubricant unit Nnewi, of which their market share in that sector is less than 5% unlike major players like, Dozzy Oil, AZ, Seahorse, Wizoil, Tonimas etc

And many other indicators.

Taking cognisance of the level of decadence and a long list of failed and collapsed businesses in Ibeto Group, it immediately becomes clear to all and sundry, why Ibeto is desperate to sell Nnewi agenda, in hopes of currying favour and recover his past investment in sponsoring a candidate in the last election against the wishes of his people to resuscitate his collapsed businesses through Ego Anambra which he has started with Orient Petroleum Gas and Crude development in omasi Anambra North

This was hacked through the help of Dozzy Oil’s 4.8 Billion Naira and that of African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank)

In pursuit of this, Ibeto has been accessing Gas through Orient Petroleum, even as he used Court processes to hamstring their Management, while EFCC and FG are investigating this presently

He tells everybody that this is his own share of Anambra empire which also explains why Anambra State doesn’t get a single kobo from Orient Petroleum deal for years now owing to the manipulations.

My candid advice to Chief Cletus Ibeto is to think about how to repay Dozzy (Akudo) his 4.8 Billion Naira plus acrued interests of over 5 Billion Naira (case coming up on 8th of March in Port Harcourt) and avoid the embarrassment of criminal forgery charges from EFCC, face his Ibeto Group squarely or recall his good but rejected Sons to bring back his dead businesses and restore his sacked workers (90% majorly from Nnewi).

It is also advisable Ibeto stops futher scheming to take over Nnewi roundabout square and Ugwu Akpati Ozu lands

As a matter of urgency, he should start the rehabilitation of Kings Palace Hotels as it is a big shame to Ndi Nnewi before embarking to help to finish the Cathedral which is almost 85% completed by Sen Dr Ifeanyi Ubah

Finally, Ibeto should come clean with the Family issues of Arinzechi in Nnewi, Mazi Omechalu in Ichi , Nwafor Orizu in Nnewi, Udeaja in Nnewi, Cameroon Man, Mama in London and others….

Someone who lives in a glass house respects himself and never throws stones at people.

Facts are incontrovertible and a word ( like this) is enough for the wise even at 70

In the light of the above, I hereby challenge anyone to disprove the above facts but most especially, to prove that Ibeto is the great industrialist as he is being hailed as well as show me hi positive influences and impact on Nnewi. It’s not a question of according a big name cum title on someone, but a question of the person being worthy of the name or title as the case may be so for someone who claims to speak for Nnewi, his positive impacts must be indelible and irrefutable…. I am waiting

This is just opening remark, expect more if any rejoinder comes.

#Russia bans Facebook

The Russian Government has, on Friday, blocked access to Facebook and threatened up to 15 years in prison for those who stray from the state narrative on the war in Ukraine.

The clampdown on free speech is more aggressive than at any other point in President Vladimir Putin’s 22 years in power.

“7th position in Ballon d’Or shocked me” – Mo Salah says

Egypt and Liverpool star, Mo Salah says he didn’t expect to come  seventh place in voting for the prestigious 2021 Ballon d’or awards .

According to Salah no one including himself expected a 7th placed finish in the standings because of the spectacular year he had where he broke so many records for club and country.

Despite the setback, the Egyptian says he has done enough in his career to die feeling accomplished.

“It shocked me [not doing better in Ballon d’Or voting], but there’s nothing I can say. No one in the world expected that I would be seventh, but that’s what happened,” Salah said on Egyptian TV and the DMC channel.

On not making the FIFA World XI, he said:

“I do not feel the conspiracy theory, but there may be inaccurate choices, and there are many countries which aren’t popular with football knowledge and so far from it. I do not know their choices based on what, but I do not believe in the conspiracy theory.

“I don’t have the feeling that there is anything personal against me specifically in the FIFA choices, but this is the reality we are dealing with.”

“There are no words to describe how I feel about people’s positive comments towards me or to be a reason for their hope,” he said. “Today, if I died, It would be after achieving a lot of things that I wanted to achieve.

“People don’t realize how happy I am when I come to play for the national team, it’s an honor for me to wear the national team shirt.

“The most important match I played in my life was the qualifying match for the World Cup 2018 against Congo, my happiness after the winning goal was indescribable.”

Salah has 19 goals and 10 assists in domestic league action this year.

Senegalese Govt. stops Ukraine’s ‘illegal’ recruitment of its citizens to fight #Russia

Senegal has condemned a call by Ukraine’s embassy for Senegalese volunteers to join its fight against Russia.

The West African country said it learned of a Facebook post by the embassy of Ukraine in Dakar, appealing to foreign citizens for help.

Senegal’s foreign ministry said Yurii Pyvovarov, ambassador of Ukraine to Senegal, was subsequently invited to verify the publication — and he confirmed that 36 volunteers were already registered.

“In view of the seriousness of such facts, the Ministry officially notified, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Senegal, a note verbale of protest strongly condemning this practice which constitutes a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, in particular with regard to the obligation to respect the laws and regulations of the receiving State,” the foreign ministry said in a statement issued on Thursday.Advertisement

“Consequently, the Ministry urged the Embassy to immediately withdraw the above-mentioned appeal and cease, without delay, any procedure for enlisting persons of Senegalese or foreign nationality, from Senegalese territory.

“Failing this, the Department reserves the right to make any decision that the situation calls for. The Ministry would like to point out that the recruitment of volunteers, mercenaries or foreign fighters on Senegalese territory is illegal and punishable by the penalties provided for by law.”

In response, the Ukrainian embassy announced that it had stopped registration for volunteers in Senegal.Advertisement

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have shown interest in travelling to Ukraine to fight Russian forces.

Ukraine’s embassy in Nigeria had however said the volunteers must provide $1,000 for tickets and visas.

Ukrainian troops warns ‘Putin’s soldiers’ to stay off from #Ukraine (video)

“Don’t Impose More Sanctions, We Have No ill Intentions” – #Putin says

President Putin has warned those opposing Russia’s actions in Ukraine “not to exacerbate the situation” by imposing more restrictions on his country.

The Russian president was speaking at a government meeting broadcast on the state-controlled Rossiya 24 news channel.

“We have no ill intentions against our neighbours,” Putin claims.

And he says his government sees “no need” for its neighbours to take further action that will “make our relations worse”.

“I think everyone must think about how to normalise relations, co-operate normally and develop relations normally,” he adds.

Barrister Ejiofor Asked To Withdraw From IPOB Leader’s Legal Team Immediately

Bruce Fein, the American lawyer of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, (IPOB) has asked Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a member of Kanu’s legal team, to immediately refrain from representing the agitator.

According to the letter obtained by SaharaReporter, Fein noted that Ejiofor was not eligible to defend Kanu against the Federal Government’s amended charges in the court.

He cited a pending lawsuit instituted by a businessman against Ejiofor over an alleged fraud of N5.6 million.

Fein pointed out that Ejiofor had a case to answer and that the allegations were not concocted by the Nigerian government to preempt his representation of Nnamdi Kanu.
The American lawyer, therefore, urged Ejiofor to immediately withdraw from Kanu’s legal team.

The letter reads, “How can you be blind to what all the world can see and understand?

“According to the public record, you have a blatant conflict of interest in representing Nnamdi Kanu to defend against the Federal Government of Nigeria’s amended charges in the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja Judicial Division Holden in Abuja, Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015 in violation of Rule 10 of the Nigerian Rules of Professional Conduct.

“The public record shows you have a conflicting interest to sabotage Nnamdi Kanu’s defense in exchange for leniency or a pardon in the pending fraud prosecution against you in FRN v. IFEANYI EJIOFOR & 2 ORS, CHARGE NO. CR/950/2020, Court No. 3, FCT High Court, Maitama, before Honourable Justice M.E. Anenih.

The next hearing in your prosecution is scheduled for March 30, 2022.

“The public record establishes that the fraud charges were not concocted by the FGN to preempt your representation of Nnamdi Kanu.

The record shows the charges were triggered by a complaint from a private businessman with no political or other ulterior motive to defame or handicap you: Okpala Comas Ikechukwu.

“Among other things, he stated in a complaint to the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission that you defrauded him of N5,600,000.00 by conspiring to represent forged land or title documents as authentic.

“Nothing in the public domain demonstrates that you shared your conflict of interest with Nnamdi Kanu and received his knowing and voluntary written consent to represent him notwithstanding the conflict.

“You are saddled with a professional and personal duty to recuse yourself immediately from further representation of Nnamdi Kanu and to apologize for your neglect to do so earlier.

“As the Bible preaches (Matthew 6: 24): ‘No one can serve two masters.’ I expect you to do the right thing.”

Lindsey Graham, US Senator calls for #Putin’s assassination

Senior US senator Lindsey Graham called for “somebody in Russia” to assassinate President Vladimir Putin after Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in a televised interview Thursday evening.

“How does this end? Somebody in Russia has to step up to the plate… and take this guy out,” the senator told conservative Fox News TV host Sean Hannity.

He repeated the call later in a series of tweets, saying “the only people who can fix this are the Russian people.”

“Is there a Brutus in Russia?” asked the senator, referring to one of Roman ruler Julius Caesar’s assassins.

The former presidential candidate also wondered if “a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg” existed in the Russian military, alluding to the German officer whose bomb failed to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944.
“You would be doing your country- and the world- a great service,” he added.

The senator, who has served in congress for over twenty years and has at times been a close ally to former president Donald Trump, had earlier in the day introduced a resolution condemning the Russian president and his military commanders for committing “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity.”

Ukrainian President, Volodymir Zelensky has survived three assassination attempts in the last 7 days

Russia’s number one target, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly survived three assassination attempted in the last week, new report claims.

According to The Times, mercenaries from Wagner group, who are sponsored by the Russian government and Chechen special forces were both sent to kill the Ukrainian president since Russia’s invasion began last week.

Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky has survived three assassination attempts in the past week, new report claims

But the assassins were foiled by saboteur anti-war members within Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) – who alerted Ukraine officials,  The Times reported.

Ukraine Secretary of National Security and Defense confirmed the three assassination attempts and told local press that he had received information from the double agents ‘who do not want to take part in this bloody war.’

One of the groups that reportedly tried to kill Zelensky, 44, was the Wagner Group – which has 400 members located in Kyiv as members infiltrated Ukraine with a 24-name ‘kill list.’ If the attempt had been succesful, Russian President Vladimir Putin would have been able to deny any involvement in the killing plot.

‘They would be going in there with a very high-profile mission, something that the Russians would want to be deniable — a decapitation of a head of state is a huge mission,’ a source told the Times. ‘In terms of the impact on Russian sovereign policy, this would be perhaps their biggest mission so far. It would have a major impact on the war.’

The assasins were flown in five weeks ago and were offered a huge sum for the mission.

The assasins hit list included Ukraine’s prime minister, the entire cabinet, mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko and his brother Wladimir – both boxing champions .

The plan was sabotaged after they reached the upper echelons of the Ukrainian government on Saturday morning, prompting Kyiv authorities to declare a 36-hour curfew, ordering everyone indoors so that soldiers could attack any Russian saboteurs, the report adds .

Last week, the US offered to evacuate Zelensky, who then told Biden he ‘needed ammunition, not a ride’ despite Ukraine facing several bomb threats and a potential nuclear war.

See the first batch of Nigerians that evacuated from #Ukraine in Abuja, they received $100 each

The first batch of Nigerians evacuated from Ukraine amid the Russian invasion have arrived in Abuja on Friday morning.

They arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 7:11am  via Max Air.

The Federal Government on Friday March 4, gave all returnees from Ukraine $100 (about N48,000) to ameliorate their sufferings.

This was disclosed in a statement released by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Head of Media and Public Relations, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abuja.

The first batch of 450 Nigerians stranded in Ukraine returned home from Romania through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Balogun said that the returnees, mostly students, arrived Nigeria with Max Air flight 747 at 7:10 a.m.

“Why keeping Harry Maguire with Manchester United?” – Team mates asked

Maguire Harry rezmains as captain Man utd

Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire’s place in the team is reportedly being questioned by some of his teammates.

The 28-year-old England international has endured a frustrating season at Old Trafford in which his form has come under serious question having made a number of high-profile mistakes in several matches including recent games against Burnley and Southampton.

Despite this, he has largely kept his place in the team, something which some of his team-mates have privately questioned behind the scenes, according to the Times.

His drop in form has reportedly not impressed some of his teammates who have aired their grievances between themselves at the club’s Carrington training ground. They feel that his performances have not met the club’s standards throughout the season.

It’s not the first time this season that there have been reports about questions over Maguire’s status in the team.

In October, it was reported that during a team meeting after their 4-2 defeat by Leicester, some players ripped into each other, with one questioning Maguire’s selection as captain.

The defender has held the role of captain for a large part of his time at Old Trafford after he was awarded the armband just six months after joining from Leicester.

Nigerian volunteer soldiers must provide $1000 for ticket, visa, says #Ukrainian Govt

The Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria says Nigerians who are willing to travel to Ukraine to fight Russian forces must be willing to provide $1,000 for ticket and visa.

The embassy stated this when scores of Nigerian men converged on its premises in Abuja on Thursday to express their readiness to join the Ukrainian side.

In an interview with our correspondent, the Second Secretary at the Ukrainian Embassy to Nigeria, Bohdan Soltys, confirmed that $1,000 would be needed by Nigerian volunteers.

The announcement did not go down well with the Nigerians who lamented that the price was too high.

“The $1,000 requirement is too high,” said Monday Adikwu, with number 96NA/41/2808, who was dismissed from the Nigerian Army for leaving his duty post to visit his pregnant wife without permission.

“They said we should provide evidence of military experience, passports and $1,000 for tickets and others. When I asked what the salary is, the guy first said $7,000 and later changed it to $3,300 per month. I showed him my military and training certificates.”

When asked why he wants to go to Ukraine, Adikwu said he needed money to take care of his family including six children

He said, “I want to go to Ukraine because I am a military man. I fought in Liberia. I fought in Sierra Leone. I was part of the 33 Battalion. I was trained by Ukrainian soldiers when I was in the United Nations in Kosovo on how to shoot and drive APC tanks. I can drive it very well.

“So, when I heard about Ukraine and the way people are trooping in… I am a farmer. I don’t have anything. I am a fighter. They said they will pay us so I am ready to fight so that I can get paid and take care of my family. I will also bring glory to the name of Nigeria as a worthy ambassador.”

Adikwu, who was accompanied by other dismissed soldiers, said they were not afraid of Russian forces.

“We are not scared. It was David that killed Goliath with only a tool. So, I believe my going to Ukraine will give them victory

Another applicant, Nkem Ndueche, who is from Anambra State, said he was fluent in Russian having attended a Russian military academy in 2007, said he was willing to fight on the side of Ukraine.

Ndueche added that his wife was against him travelling to fight for Ukraine but he would travel nonetheless for the sake of honour.

“I am 101 per cent to fight for Ukraine. It is wrong for someone to invade another person’s land. That is what Putin is doing and we want to defend Ukraine. I was in the military academy in Russia. I have what it takes. I even served the Nigerian Army briefly too,” he said.

In an interview with The PUNCH, the Second Secretary at the Ukrainian Embassy to Nigeria, Bohdan Soltys, said it would be difficult for Nigerians to travel to Ukraine now since the airspace had been shut due to the war.

He said since Nigerians needed visas to visit Romania and Poland, it would be difficult for them to use the land borders.

“It is normal practice when people want to volunteer and join the army of another country. It is a normal international practice. Of course, for us, it is an expression of support which we really appreciate. For now, no one has gone. We have received hundreds of applications from people who said they are willing. We have sent lists to the government but I cannot tell you what will happen next.

“In this particular case, you cannot fly to Ukraine. The only way you can fly is to countries that border Ukraine. All these countries are part of the EU and Nigerians will need visas to visit these countries. So, it is a big obstacle. You cannot fly directly to Ukraine. You will have to go to Poland or Hungary,” Soltys said.

The diplomat said Ukraine was not recruiting mercenaries but volunteers. He, therefore, advised Nigerians not to focus on the money. He, however, promised that Nigerian volunteers would be paid the same as Ukrainian soldiers.

“If a person wants to fight for Ukraine or any other country, only volunteers can do it. If Ukraine pays these people, they will be mercenaries and it violates international law… In general, when a person joins another country’s army, they pay the normal price that their soldiers are paid. This is how it works across the world. You come to fight because an injustice has been done,” he said

On why $1,000 was being demanded from Nigerian volunteers, the Ukrainian diplomat said, “Yes, $1,000. That is what I paid the last time I visited Ukraine.”

While thanking Nigeria for siding with Ukraine at the United Nations General Assembly, he pleaded with Nigerian citizens who may have been victims of racism during the evacuation in Ukraine not to feel offended, adding that war situations sometimes force people to act out of character.

#Russian warship marines and tank soldiers reject #Putin’s order To Bomb Civilian Areas In #Ukraine

Russian troops taking part in the invasion of Ukraine were complaining about lack of supplies and argue about orders to bomb civilian areas.

The soldiers were said to be in ‘complete disarray’, according to voice recordings obtained by a British intelligence company.

DailyMail reports that the intercepted radio messages indicate that troops are refusing to obey central command orders to shell Ukrainian towns and are complaining about running out of supplies of food and fuel.

The recordings were said to be among around 24 hours of material obtained by intelligence firm ShadowBreak since the invasion of Ukraine began last week.

In one of the eavesdropped conversations, listened to by The Telegraph, a soldier reportedly sounds as though he is crying.

In another, a soldier is heard losing his temper when asking when food or fuel will arrive. He says, “We’ve been here for three days! When the hell is it going to be ready?”

A third message reveals a tense exchange in which the same soldier has to remind a colleague speaking from a command centre that they cannot use artillery on an area until civilians – who are labelled ‘the goods’ – have left.
ShadowBreak’s founder Samuel Cardillo, 26, told The Telegraph he had been sent the messages by amateurs listening in with antennas.
He said, “What we have found is that the Russian operatives are operating in complete disarray.

“They have no clue where they are going and how to really communicate with each other properly. There were periods where we heard them [Russian soldiers] crying in combat, a period where they were insulting each other – obviously not a sign of great morale.”

Some of the messages were also “proof of war crimes” because they revealed ordered to fire missiles into urban areas, Mr Cardillo said.

Other video recordings are said to show Russian soldiers retreating back into Russia after becoming frustrated, whilst a text message sent by a soldier to his mother is alleged to have said, “The only thing I want right now is to kill myself.”

In a further sign that morale may be poor, a senior US defence official told the New York Times on Tuesday that some troops have “deliberately punched holes” in their vehicles’ petrol tanks in the hope of avoiding combat.
Parts of the Russian military are also still using analogue ‘walkie talkie’ two-way radios, making them more vulnerable to interception.

Ukrainian forces are also said to have had no problem jamming Russian communications and interrupting them with the sound of their national anthem.

Another recording obtained by ShadowBreak is said to reveal a soldier in tears, pleading with his command: ‘…it’s slow, it’s slow.’

The communications are also said to show that soldiers were told they would meet little resistance upon entering Ukraine.

Instead, Ukrainian forces are now in the ninth day of resistance to the Russian attack and multiple videos reveal civilians confronting the invading troops and convoys.

Over 370 Nigerian Students trapped in Ukraine, Air Peace begins evacuation of Nigerians today

At least 370 Nigerian students have been trapped in a Ukrainian city that has been surrounded by Russian troops and possibly facing harm as Russian Forces intensify their assaults on Ukrainian cities in a war that has entered into its Seventh Day on Wednesday.

According to LEADERSHIP, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Abuja Bohdan Soltys disclosed this  in an interview on Wednesday.

He said that the students in the city of Sumy have been trapped and have no easy exit because the city has been surrounded by Russian troops.

He urged the Nigerian Government and the international organizations, especially humanitarian agencies to act urgently to save the beleaguered Nigerian students from the “rampaging and vicious” Russian troops.

“Sumy University is one of the best universities in Ukraine and it has hundreds of Nigerian students. 370 Nigerian students are stranded in this city because it is now surrounded by Russian troops and they cannot get out. I believe the embassy of Nigeria in Ukraine should call on Nigerian government to negotiate with Russia to create a green corridor for the students to get out of the city,” the envoy said.

The management of Air Peace has commenced the evacuation of stranded Nigerians in Ukraine.

This is coming as more than four thousand Nigerians are reportedly trapped in Ukraine after Russia’s military invasion.

Announcing the commencement of the evacuation, Air Peace in a statement said, “Ukraine War: We’ve deployed our aircraft to evacuate Nigerians who are stranded in Europe as a result of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

“This is the first batch of Nigerians to be evacuated since the war broke out. The aircraft departed Nigeria at 2:20am today, Thursday, March 3, 2022, for Warsaw, Poland.”

Just IN: Top #Russian General ‘killed fighting in #Ukraine’

A top Russian general has reportedly been killed in the war with Ukraine.

Andrei Sukhovetsky, deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District, died yesterday, Ukrainian news outlets report.

They referred to a post on Russian social media platform VKontakte written by Sergei Chipilev, a deputy of the Russian veteran’s group, Combat Brotherhood.

It said: ‘It is with great sorrow that we learned of the tragic news about the death of our friend, Major General Andrei Aleksandrovich Sukhovetsky, on the territory of Ukraine during a special operation.’

After graduating from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School in 1995, Sukhovetsky started his career path as a platoon commander. He went on to become chief of staff of the Guards airborne assault unit.

Ukrainian outlet Fakti said he had been in his latest role since October 2021 and was based in Novosibirsk.

Yesterday the Russian Ministry of Defence said 498 of its servicemen were killed, more than 1,500 were injured since the invasion of Ukraine was launched last Thursday.

Defence ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov rejected reports about ‘incalculable losses’ among Russian forces as ‘disinformation’. But Ukraine has said the true number of Russian troops killed is higher than Moscow admits.

Konashenkov denied that conscripts or cadets have been involved in the operation in Ukraine, dismissing media reports suggesting otherwise. But Russian independent organisations that help parents find their sons have said were taking part and had been made to sign documents before crossing the border.

Konashenkov also said more than 2,870 Ukrainian troops have been killed and some 3,700 more sustained injuries, while 572 others have been captured by the Russians.

The claim is yet to be independently verified, and Ukraine has not commented on these figures.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said that more than 2,000 civilians have died in the conflict, but again the claim has not been verified.

Abramovich puts Chelsea FC up for sale, grabs Isreali citizenship

Amidst the war between Russia and Ukraine, the owner of Chelsea football club, Roman Abramovich has stated that he has put the club up for sale.

In a statement released on the club’s website, the Russian owner of the football club stated that the sale of the club would follow due process. He further noted that the sale of the club was in the best interest of Chelsea FC, its fans, sponsors and other stakeholders of the club.

He said, “I would like to address the speculation in the media over the past few days in relation to my ownership of Chelsea FC. As I have stated before, I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the Club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the Club, the fans the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners.

“The sale of the Club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and Club.”

Abramovich further stated that he has instructed his team to ensure that all net proceeds of the sale go to victims of the war in Ukraine.

He said, “Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated. The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine. This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long term work of recovery.

“Please know that this has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, and it pains me to part with the Club in this manner. However, I do believe this is in the best interest of the Club.

“I hope I will be able to visit Stamford Bridge on last time to say goodbye to all of you in person. It has been a privilege of a lifetime to be part of Chelsea FC and I am proud of all our joint achievements. Chelsea Football Club and its supporters will always be in my heart.”

This comes after Abramovich, handed over the “stewardship and care” of Chelsea to the trustees of its charitable foundation. This was announced in a statement posted on the website of the European champions on Saturday.

Moreso, in the wake of the Ukraine invasion by Russia, the owner of Chelsea Football Club was barred from living in the United Kingdom.  The UK government claimed that Abramovich was named by Members of Parliament as being one of 35 oligarchs identified by the Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, as one of the ‘key enablers’ of the ‘kleptocracy’ run by the country’s president, Vladimir Putin.

The Russian-Jewish billionaire owner of Chelsea football club, Roman Abramovich, has flown to Tel Aviv after being found eligible for Israeli citizenship, BBC reports.

Immigration officials told the BBC that he was interviewed last week at the Israeli embassy in Moscow. He has faced delays in renewing his UK visa.

His spokesman would not comment on reports citizenship had been granted.

Mr Abramovich, 51, would be the richest person in Israel.

His UK investor visa reportedly expired some weeks ago but the British government has refused to comment on his individual case.

The delay in issuing him a new one comes amid increased diplomatic tensions between London and Moscow after the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in southern England.

Mr Abramovich did not attend the FA cup final at Wembley earlier this month when Chelsea beat Manchester United.

Israeli media reports say he has been given an identity card in Israel under the Law of Return, which allows Jews to become citizens of Israel.

The Times of Israel said the interior ministry had confirmed Mr Abramovich arrived in Israel on Monday and that he had emigrated to the country.

He is a frequent visitor to Israel and bought a hotel in Tel Aviv in 2015 that reports say he has turned into a residence.

Israel passport holders are allowed to enter Britain without a visa for short stays.

Mr Abramovich is worth $11.5bn (£8.6bn), according to Forbes magazine. The move could pay off financially as new Israeli citizens are exempt from paying tax on foreign income for 10 years.

WHO IS ROMAN ABRAMOVICH?

Mr Abramovich, one of Russia’s richest people, bought Chelsea FC in 2003

He reportedly sold dolls before making his fortune in oil in the 1990s after the collapse of the former Soviet Union

Hushpuppi: Nigerian Govt. approves US request for Abba Kyari’s extradition

The Federal Government on Thursday March 3, approved the request by the United States of America, for suspended Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, to be extradited over the $1.1million wire fraud perpetrated by Abass Ramon aka Hushpuppi and 4 others.

Vanguard reports that the approval was made known by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) when he filed an application before the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja for Kyari’s extradition.

The application marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022 was filed under the Extradition Act.

The AGF said the application followed a request by the Diplomatic Representative of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja. The request is “for the surrender of Abba Alhaji Kyari, who is a subject in a superseding three counts indictment”

The AGF said he was satisfied that the offence in respect of which Kyari’s surrender is not political nor is it trivial. The AGF also expressed satisfaction that the request for the surrender of Kyari was not made to persecute or punish him on account of his race, religion, nationality or political opinions but in good faith and the interest of justice.

He said Kyari, “if surrendered, will not be prejudiced at his trial and will not be punished, detained or restricted in his personal liberty, by reason of his race, nationality or political opinions”.

The AGF also mentioned that having regard to all the circumstances in which the offence was committed, it will not be unjust or oppressive, or be too severe a punishment, to surrender him. Malami said he was also satisfied that Kyari has been accused of the offence for which his surrender is sought.

He noted that there was no criminal proceeding pending against Kyari in Nigeria for the same offence.

Recall that in April 2021, a jury filed an indictment against Kyari with the approval of the U.S. District Court and demanded Kyari stand trial for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering and identity theft.

Consequently, the US Embassy requested for Kyari’s extradition saying, “On April 29, 2021, based on the indictment filed by the grand jury and with the approval of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, a deputy clerk of the court issued a warrant of arrest for Kyari.

“The arrest warrant remains valid and executable to apprehend Kyari for the crimes with which he is charged in the indictment. Kyari is wanted to stand trial in the United States for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, and identity theft.

Kyari is the subject of an indictment in case Number 2:21-cr-00203 (also referred to as 2:21-MJ-00760 and 2:21-CR-00203-RGK), filed April 29, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.”

Kyari was accused of conspiring with a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Nigerian, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi to commit the crime.

The charges against Kyari read,

“Count one: Conspiracy to commit wire fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1349, carrying a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years;

“Count two: Conspiracy to commit money laundering, in violation of Title 18, United States Code Section 1956(h), carrying a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.

“Count three: Aggravated identity theft, and aiding and abetting that offence, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1028A(a)(1) and 2(a), carrying a maximum term of imprisonment of two years.”

Kim Kardashian Officially Divorced From Kanye West

Kim Kardashian

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian officially became single again on Wednesday, after a Los Angeles judge finalised her divorce from rapper Ye, whom she married in 2014.

Kardashian appeared before the court virtually but Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was represented only by his lawyer, who brought no objection to the end of the marriage.

Ye had publicly fought the separation, including with social media posts imploring Kardashian to reconcile.

Kardashian filed for divorce last year after months of press reports about marital strife and as Ye battled with mental health issues.

“I very much desire to be divorced,” Kardashian wrote in a declaration filed to the court last week.

“I have asked Kanye to keep our divorce private, but he has not done so,” added the 41-year-old megastar.

“I believe that the court terminating our marital status will help Kanye to accept that our marital relationship is over and to move forward on a better path which will assist us in peacefully co-parenting our children.”

The couple have four children: eight-year-old daughter North, son Saint, six, daughter Chicago, four, and two-year-old son Psalm.

The pair, who began dating in 2012 and married in a lavish ceremony in Italy two years later, rapidly became one of the world’s most instantly recognizable couples.

But their union ran into trouble with reports of bizarre outbursts from Ye, 44, who suffers from bipolar disorder.

Just IN: Captured #Russian soldiers reportedly call their homeland whilst filmed by #Ukrainian officials

Several demoralized Russian troops who were captured in Ukraine were reportedly allowed to call home over the weekend to inform their families about their safety and profess confusion about why they were sent to war.

In one of the videos purporting to show the phone calls which were taken by Ukraine’s Interior Ministry and posted on YouTube, a Russian soldier said: “Mama and Papa, I didn’t want to come here. They forced me to”.

Tori Media learnt that videos of captured or surrendered Russian troops were also posted on the Ukrainian Security Service’s Facebook page.

The posting of the videos showing captured Russian troops raised questions about whether Ukraine had violated Article 13 of the Geneva Conventions, calling for the protection of prisoners of war “against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity.”

The captured Russian soldiers, and any Ukrainians captured by the Russians, were entitled to humane treatment and protections under the law of war and the Geneva Conventions, said Gary Solis, a Vietnam veteran, retired Marine judge advocate general and author of the book, “The Law of Armed Conflict.”

“It’s a violation” of Geneva to post the videos, but not what would be considered a “grave breach” to be taken up by a war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Solis said.

“Anybody who is captured is a prisoner of war” and must be shielded from abuse and provided medical treatment as a lawful combatant, he added. “Clearly, the Russians who were captured were wearing uniforms.”

He compared what the Ukrainians had done more to a misdemeanor than a felony, and also noted that there was a positive humanitarian aspect of the videos in showing “proof of life” to the families of the captured troops.

The International Criminal Court in The Hague has made no mention of Ukrainian actions since Russia invaded last week, but on Monday, ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan said in a press release that he planned to begin an investigation “as rapidly as possible” into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Russia tied to the bombing and shelling of civilian buildings.

In English subtitles added to one video by Ukrainian authorities, another Russian soldier tried to explain his plight to his mother: “Hello, hello, Mom? Hi, did you recognize me? I am in the territory of Ukraine. I’ve been taken captive but I’m alright.”

In addition to the videos of soldiers calling home, the Interior Ministry showed off-camera interrogators questioning the troops who mostly appeared to be unharmed and speaking freely, but some had cuts and bruises on their faces.

One soldier appeared under sheets in what was either an aid station or hospital bed and said “I got here not knowing” what the mission was, according to the Ukrainian translation. “I didn’t imagine what will happen here. There was no need to come here.”

He said “our convoy got under fire” and now “my legs are broken.” He had a wife and two children back in Russia, the soldier said, and “I pray to God to recover.”

A common theme among the soldiers was that they were conscripts, with little concept of why they were sent into Ukraine and-or what their mission was once they crossed the border.

One Russian soldier said: “We came here under the pretext of doing military exercises. We were not planning to make war on Ukraine. I am alive and healthy as a captive, and my message is to stop the war in Ukraine. It is nonsense; people are dying.”

Ukrainian officials gave no overall figure for how many Russian troops may have been captured, but Ukraine’s Interior Ministry reported Tuesday that 5,710 Russian troops had been killed since the Feb. 24 invasion began.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov declined Sunday to give numbers on how many Russian troops had been killed or captured but said more Ukrainians than Russians had been killed, Russia’s Tass news agency reported.

“There are dead and wounded among our comrades,” Konashenkov said without giving any figures, but added that Ukraine’s losses were “many times” more than Russia’s — again without giving specifics.

Although they may not be wearing uniforms, the civilians would be considered lawful combatants so long as they were wearing a sign or symbol of their allegiance, and simply carrying a weapon would qualify as such a sign, Solis said.

Moment #Russian soldier ‘surrenders and breaks down in tears’ and calls his mum (video)

A moving video appears to show a captured Russian soldier break down in tears as he sips tea while Ukrainians call his mother to assure her of his safety.

The video shows the Russian soldier in Ukraine surrounded by several people and cars after he apparently surrendered.

He is seen sipping tea and eating a pastry while a woman holds up a cellphone in an apparent video call with his mom.

As soon as a woman’s voice, believed to be his mum’s is heard on the phone, the soldier breaks down in tears.

At the end of the call, the crying soldier blows a kiss to his mum.

A man off-camera can be heard saying that the soldiers “don’t know why they are here,” according to a translation by The US Sun.

“These young men, it’s not their fault,” the man is heard saying in Ukrainian, according to the translation.

The clip surfaced amid reports that Russian soldiers are sabotaging their own vehicles and surrendering. Radio clips intercepted by a British intelligence firm allegedly caught some Russian troops crying and complaining of a lack of supplies.

“Igbos will dump PDP if Atiku wins presidential ticket” – Ohanaeze Ndigbo threatens

As the 2023 Presidential election draws near, the pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo, has threatened to mobilize its members to dump PDP if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar wins the party’s presidential ticket.

While visiting former President Olusegun Obasanjo last weekend, Atiku said there was no time he has ever failed to get the Presidential ticket. He also expressed confidence in getting PDP’s 2023 presidential ticket.

Reacting to his stance, Ohaneze in a statement released said the group has always supported PDP and will not hesitate to withdraw its support for the party if a presidential candidate of Igbo extraction is not fielded come 2023.

The statement reads

”Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar’s boastful stance of winning the 2023 PDP presidential ticket is a nostalgic belief that has decorated him as a desperate politician swimming against the political currents and tides of the moment.

Atiku has misread the mood of the nation ahead of 2023, and this miscalculation may retire him from partisan politics in 2023. Atiku has the constitutional rights to aspire for the office of President in 2023, but one had expected him not to rock the boat now that the odds are against him based on his age and his region.

He should not fight dirty or appear desperate for the presidency, rather it’s time for him to voluntarily quit partisan politics and takes his rightful place in history as an Elder statesman without being dishonored and disgraced.

Ndigbo had expected that Atiku Abubakar should support a younger person, for 2023, especially after the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike openly denounced Atiku’s proposal, for him to be his running mate in 2023. That’s enough message and signal to him that 2023 is exclusively reserved for a Southern President, and Atiku should search his conscience and support an Igbo in the PDP primaries to avert a disgraceful end of his political career.

The Southern Nigerian Leaders and Governors have vowed that it’s unhealthy for another northerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. In 2019, Ndigbo showed enough loyalty to the PDP and Atiku Abubakar, and the present predicaments and penalties facing the South-East today, was the 2019 Igbo support given to Atiku and PDP. But in 2023, Igbos will dump PDP if Atiku wins the PDP tickets. Ohanaeze Ndigbo in alliance with other ethnic groups will ensure that any political party that refuses to zone their presidential ticket to the south will suffer in the 2023 presidential election, If Atiku continues, he will surely taste the venom of Nigerians in the PDP primaries and disgrace that awaits him.”

“I will protect you from effects of war in #Ukraine” – Macron tells French people

In a live TV broadcast to the nation, Macron warned that “the days ahead are likely to become tougher and tougher.”

Saluting the courage of the Ukrainian people and standing in front of a Ukrainian flag, he said that the war would undoubtedly make its effects felt across Europe, including in France, where the prices of petrol, gas and everyday items are likely to rise.

On a wider scale, he warned that “our farmers, our industry and a number of economic sectors will suffer”.

He said that he has asked Prime Minister Jean Castex to create a comprehensive plan to deal with price rises and other knock-on effects of the war “within the next few days”.

Macron also announced that he would be hosting European leaders at Versailles on March 10th and 11th for a summit to discuss energy independence and defence. The French president described his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymr Zelensky as “the face of honour, freedom and bravery”.

“It is alone and deliberately that President Putin has chosen the war. This war is not a conflict between Nato on the one hand and Russia on the other. Russia is not attacked, it is the aggressor.”

“Already our Europe has shown unity and determination. We have entered into a new era.”

However he added: “We are not at war with Russia”.

He added that France would do its share to welcome the millions of Ukrainians displaced by war, including taking in children separated from their parents.

Macron has been criticised by some for his continuing conversations with Russian premier Vladimir Putin, but told the nation: “I have chosen to remain in contact with President Putin for as long as I can, and for as long is necessary, to unstintingly seek to convince him to renounce violence… and to prevent the contagion and spreading of the conflict.”

But he said he believed that the war will continue and represents “a new era” in Europe.

The speech did not directly touch on the issue of French domestic politics, as Macron’s office had already made clear.

Macron has so far not officially declared that he will run for re-election, and the deadline for candidates to declare is Friday, March 4th.

It is, however, widely thought to be extremely unlikely that he will not enter the presidential race. His team had previously announced an event in Marseille on Saturday, March 5th, which was expected to be the first official event of the campaign. However this was cancelled earlier this week because of the international situation.

Macron’s handling of the crisis is generally viewed positively in France, and his poll ratings have gone up over the past two weeks.

Scary photos of Biafra National Guard resurfaces online after months of going underground

Some scary pictures of Biafra National Guard soldiers armed with AK47 rifles have resurfaced online after the group last year redeclared the defunct republic of Biafra and went underground thereafter.

In some of the pictures which were exclusively obtained by Tori Media, some female combatants were seen posing with assault rifles in what appeared to be the military Headquarters of the separatist movement.

#Russian soldiers are confused; there was internal fighting and some refusing to obey orders – Report claims

Russian soldiers taking part in the invasion of Ukraine are in ‘complete disarray’, according to voice recordings obtained by a British intelligence company.

The intercepted radio messages indicate that troops are refusing to obey central command orders to shell Ukrainian towns and are complaining about running out of supplies of food and fuel.

The recordings are among around 24 hours of material obtained by intelligence firm ShadowBreak since the invasion of Ukraine began last week.

In one of the eavesdropped conversations, listened to by The Telegraph, a soldier reportedly sounded as though he was crying.

In another, a soldier was heard losing his temper when asking when food or fuel would arrive.

He said: “We’ve been here for three days! When the hell is it going to be ready?”

A third message revealed a tense exchange in which the same soldier had to remind a colleague speaking from a command centre that they could not use artillery on an area until civilians – who were labelled ‘the goods’ – had left.

ShadowBreak’s founder Samuel Cardillo, 26, told The Telegraph he had been sent the messages by amateurs listening in with antennas.

He said: “What we have found is that the Russian operatives are operating in complete disarray.

“They have no clue where they are going and how to really communicate with each other properly.”

He added: “There were periods where we heard them (Russian soldiers) crying in combat, a period where they were insulting each other – obviously not a sign of great morale.’

Mr Cardillo said that some of the messages were also ‘proof of war crimes’ because they revealed orders to fire missiles into urban areas.

Other video recordings are said to show Russian soldiers retreating back into Russia after becoming frustrated, whilst a text message sent by a soldier to his mother is alleged to have said: “The only thing I want right now is to kill myself.”

In a further sign that morale may be poor, a senior U.S. defence official told the New York Times on Tuesday that some troops have “deliberately punched holes” in their vehicles’ petrol tanks in the hope of avoiding combat.

Parts of the Russian military are also still using analogue ‘walkie-talkie’ two-way radios, making them more vulnerable to interception.

Ukrainian forces are also said to have had no problem jamming Russian communications and interrupting them with the sound of their national anthem.

Another recording obtained by ShadowBreak is said to have revealed a soldier in tears, pleading with his command: “…it’s slow, it’s slow.”

The communications are also said to show that soldiers were told they would meet little resistance upon entering Ukraine.

Instead, Ukrainian forces are now on the ninth day of resistance to the Russian attack and multiple videos reveal civilians confronting the invading troops and convoys.

The new recordings come after Ukraine on Monday paraded captured Russian soldiers in dozens of online videos.

Footage posted online shows tied up ‘demoralised, and exhausted’ Russian prisoners of war captured after they failed to break through Ukrainian defences in Kyiv and Kharkiv over the weekend.

Several of the videos were posted on a Telegram channel set up on Saturday by Ukraine’s Interior Ministry called ‘Find Your Own’.

Many Russian troops claimed that they believed they were conducting training exercises in the border regions and did not know they were being sent to invade Ukraine.

Luwizo said although his parents didn’t approve of his decision and decided not to attend his wedding, he has no regrets whatsoever going forward with it.

He said: “You have to lose something in order to gain another. In addition, one has their preferences and their own way of doing things. So I’m happy to marry the triplets no matter what others think. My parents despised my decision and that’s why they didn’t attend my wedding. But all I can say is love has no limits.”

BREAKING: Ukrainian President Zelenskyy escapes assassination attempt

As Russian forces advances into Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt, a government official announced early today, Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

A report by Anadolu Agency quoted the Interfax-Ukraine news agency as reporting on its website that the attempt on Zelenskyy’s life was planned by members of the elite unit of the Kadyrovtsy (Kadyrov followers).

The report quoted Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, as confirming the development on the air on the Ukraine 24 TV channel.

“The special operation that was to be carried out directly by Kadyrovtsy to eliminate our president is fully known to us today. I can say that we received information from representatives of the FSB (Russia’s Federal Security Service) who have no desire to take part in this bloody war. Thanks to this, the Kadyrov elite group that came here to liquidate our president was killed,” Danilov told Ukraine 24.

The Kadyrovtsy is a paramilitary organization in Chechnya that serves as the protection of Ramzan Kadyrov, head of the Chechen Republic.

The alleged assassination attempt took place as Russia stepped up its war against Ukraine in defiance of global opinion, with Russian troops bombarding the capital city Kiev, and second largest city, Kharkiv, hours after Monday’s peace talks between both countries in neighbouring Belarus.

Read – #Russian soldier’s shocking last texts to his mum before being killed in #Ukraine

The final text message a soldier sent to his mother before he was killed in Ukraine has shown the horrifying reality of the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s ambassador read out the horrifying text messages to the United Nations yesterday, February 28.

The soldier wrote via text: “Mom I’m no longer in Crimea. I’m not in training sessions.”

His mother replies: “Where are you then? Papa is asking whether I can send you a parcel.”

He responds: “What kind of a parcel mama can you send me?”

“What are you talking about? What happened?” his mum asks.

“Mama, I’m in Ukraine,” he replies back. “There is a real war raging here. I’m afraid. We are bombing all of the cities together, even targeting civilians.

“We were told that they would welcome us and they are falling under our armoured vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not allowing us to pass.

“They call us fascists. Mama. This is so hard.”

The Ukrainian ambassador said that the last message was sent just “moments” before the soldier lost his life.

Ukrainian Military shoots down Russian fighter planes

The Ukrainian army said on Tuesday that it had shot down several Russian fighter planes as Russia’s invasion of its neighbour country entered its sixth day.

Five Russian fighter planes and a helicopter were shot down during aerial attacks on Monday, the Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper and the Ukrainian air force reported.

The planes were reportedly shot down during aerial attacks on the cities of Vasylkiv and Brovary in the area surrounding Kiev, and a cruise missile and a helicopter were shot down near Kiev.

Ukrainian warplanes reportedly fired missiles and bombs at Russian tanks and troops near Kiev and close to the city of Zhytomyr.

Bombs were reportedly dropped in the northern region of Chernihiv and the southern Ukrainian city of Berdyansk, currently under Russian control.

Meanwhile, satellite imagery has shown a convoy of Russian military vehicles estimated to be 64 kilometres long heading towards the Ukrainian capital Kiev, according to Ukrainian news agency UNIAN.

More than 100 civilians have already died during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to the UN.

Ukraine’s government puts the civilian toll at more than 150.

“Drop Your Weapon And Get $40000 each” -#Ukraine Defense Tells Russian Soldiers

Ukraine on Tuesday has offered Russian soldiers a sum of $40,000 and promised them immunity from punishment if they surrender, Tori Media reports.

Make your decision. Come out without weapon, with a white flag,” Defence Minister Oleksii Resnikov wrote on Facebook.’’

Each soldier was being offered the equivalent of more than $40,000.

The campaign was reportedly being financed by the international IT industry.

“Anyone who refuses to be an occupationist will bring peace. For those who choose the path of the occupationist there will be no mercy!” said Resnikov.

Whether surrendering Russians will actually receive the money could not be verified.

According to Ukrainian sources, at least 200 Russian soldiers have been captured so far.

In interrogation videos, many have said they believed they were taking part in a manoeuvre but were actually sent to fight in Ukraine.

Russia attacked the neighbouring country on 24, without declaring war.

According to the UN, more than 400 civilians have already been killed.

The Russian army had already fired at least 113 ballistic missiles at Ukraine, according to Ukrainian sources but Moscow vehemently denies attacking Ukrainian civilians.

The Ministry of Defence in Kiev said more than 5,700 Russian soldiers had been killed but again, these figures cannot be independently verified.

Meanwhile, Ukraine listed some 29 aircraft, 29 helicopters and 198 tanks among allegedly destroyed Russian military equipment.

India: Nigerian man arrested for smuggling Ecstasy Pills

A 38-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested by the Ernakulam Rural police in connection with the seizure of 168 grams of ecstasy drug from four youths in Bengaluru.

Police said the suspect identified as Remijus Eze Chinedu was arrested from a flat in Bengaluru on Sunday, February 27.

Chinedu is said to be a key link in gangs engaged in smuggling drugs like MDMA in several Indian cities.

Nedumabassery police had arrested four youths from Kariyaad with 164gm of MDMA in November last year while they were transporting the contraband from Bengaluru.

The contraband worth millions in the black market, was found stashed in a hidden compartment made under the steering wheel of their car.

Police said extensive investigation was held to identify the source of the contraband which led them to the Nigerian national.

A team led by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K. Karthik found that Remijus had reached India in 2016 on a medical visa.

He continued to stay in Bengaluru illegally even as his application for visa renewal was rejected.

To prevent detection by the police, he used to frequently change locations where drugs would be handed over.

He managed to give the police the slip twice in Bengaluru. He had served a jail term in 2017 in a drug case, the police said.

Nedumbassery Inspector P.M. Baiju, Assistant Sub Inspector Aneesh K. Das, and senior civil police officers Rony Augustine, Ajith Kumar, and Midhun were part of the team that made the arrest.

Ukraine-Russian Crisis: “Racist is a breach of international law” – AU reacts to Africans denied access to neigboring countries

The African Union has reacted to reports of Africans being stopped from crossing Ukrainian border following the invasion of the European country by its neighbour, Russia.

Macky Sall, chairman of the AU, and Moussa Mahamat, chairperson of the AU Commission, in a statement released on Monday night February 28, said all people irrespective of their racial identity, have the right to flee to safety in times of war.

Countries have been asked by the AU to “respect international law” by showing empathy to all people fleeing the war. According to the union, stopping Africans from fleeing Ukraine is racism and breaches international law.

The statement read;

“The current Chair of the African Union and President of the Republic of Senegal, H.E. Macky Sall, and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, are following closely the developments in Ukraine and are particularly disturbed by reports that African citizens on the Ukrainian side of the border are being refused the right to cross the border to safety.

“The two Chairpersons recall that all people have the right to cross international borders during conflict, and as such, should enjoy the same rights to cross to safety from the conflict in Ukraine, notwithstanding their nationality or racial identity.

“Reports that Africans are singled out for unacceptable dissimilar treatment would be shockingly racist and in breach of international law. In this regard, The Chairpersons urge all countries to respect international law and show the same empathy and support to all people fleeing war notwithstanding their racial identity.

“The Chairpersons commend the efforts by African Union Member State countries and their embassies in neighbouring countries to receive and orientate African citizens and their families trying to cross the border from Ukraine to safety.”

“Sorry I thought everyone already knew, love my Maniacs4Life.”

Prior to his social media announcement, Hogan had been spotted with a woman in Clearwater, Florida, TMZ reported.

Manchester United may replace Cristiano RonaldO with Victor Osimhen

Napoli star Victor Osimhen has emerged as Manchester United’s top target to replace Cristiano Ronaldo according to a new report.

According to Football Italia, Manchester United have approached Nigeria’s Osimhen but Napoli are demanding at least €100 million for the Super Eagles striker who has scored 11 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season.

The Red Devils are said to be weighing up a move for a new first-choice striker to replace Edinson Cavani at Old Trafford upon the expiry of his contract in the summer.

Cavani will be a free agent in the summer as things stand and is not expected to sign a new deal between now and the end of the season.

Also there are pending questions over the immediate future of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is said to be open to the idea of leaving United if they miss out on a top-four finish in the Premier League at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old looked frustrated after United’s home draw with Watford on Saturday and reportedly has doubts over the ability of manager Ralf Rangnick as he looks to secure Champions League qualification ahead of next season.

Other high-profile names have been linked with the Red Devils including the likes of England skipper Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund talisman Erling Haaland.

Osimhen was initially named in the Nigeria squad for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations after scoring five times in six matches to help the Super Eagles book their place at the tournament.

However, he failed to play a single minute at the tournament after suffering a cheekbone injury prior to his side’s first match.

Osimhen, had in the past spoken of his admiration for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner before his move to Juventus back in 2018.

“Playing against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo is something one can eagerly await, so I’m looking forward to facing him soon,” he told CAF Online.

Breaking! As Over 70 #Ukrainian soldiers dead during aerial bombardments – U.S. urges its citizens to leave #Russia immediately

A Ukrainian official says a Russian artillery attack on a military unit in Okhtyrka, a city between Kharkiv and Kyiv, killed at least 70 Ukrainian soldiers on Monday.

Dmytro Zhyvytskyy, head of the Sumy Regional State Administration, posted photographs of the charred shell of a four-story building and rescuers searching rubble.

This is coming as Kyiv Independent, a Ukrainian news outlet, is reporting air raid sirens in Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities, including Vinnytsia, Uman and Cherkasy.

It also cited a hospital administrator saying that Russian shelling has hit a maternity hospital in the village of Buzova near Kyiv. “All people were evacuated from the building,” it

U.S. citizens should consider leaving Russia immediately on commercial flights, the State Department said on Sunday, citing an increasing number of airlines canceling flights and countries closing their airspace to Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.

“U.S. citizens should consider departing Russia immediately via commercial options still available,” said a security alert dated Feb. 27 on the web site of U.S. embassy in Moscow.

It has asked U.S. citizens to have “a contingency plan that does not rely on U.S. government assistance.”

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the biggest assault on a European state since World War Two, has unleashed a barrage of Western reprisals, with U.S. and European governments imposing sanctions on Russian banks and financial institutions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the attack a “special operation” through which he aims to demilitarise Moscow’s southern neighbor.

The State Department has kept its travel advisory for Russia at “Level 4: Do Not Travel”. On Feb. 20, the U.S. embassy in Moscow had advised Americans in the country to have an evacuation plan, citing the threat of attacks in Moscow and along the Russian border with Ukraine.

‘Neutral Switzerland’ adopts EU sanctions against #Russia, freezes Putin’s money

Switzerland, known for its neutral stances on global conflicts, has announced that it will adopt standard European Union sanctions against Russia over the invasion of Ukraine.

In a statement on Monday February 28, the Swiss government openly condemned the Russian invasion and expressed solidarity with Ukraine. It also announced that it will enact the same sanctions announced by the EU against Russia.

“In view of Russia’s continuing military intervention in Ukraine, the Federal Council took the decision on February 28 to adopt the packages of sanctions imposed by the EU on February 23 and 25,” the Swiss government wrote.

“Switzerland reaffirms its solidarity with Ukraine and its people; it will be delivering relief supplies for people who have fled to Poland.”

The sanctions enacted against Russia will not only target the country’s economy but the assets of important Russian government figures. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be unable to send or receive money from Swiss banks for as long as the sanctions are in place.

“In so doing, Switzerland is responding to the serious violations of international law for which these individuals are responsible,” the Swiss government said.

Another critical ban that Swiss authorities have enacted on the Russian government is the suspension of a 2009 visa agreement.

The statement said that people connected to Putin will not be allowed into the country. The decision, according to the government, will allow “appropriate measures to safeguard the country’s interests or Switzerland’s external security, independence and neutrality.”

Switzerland is perhaps most well known for its neutrality in many major international conflicts, with representatives from the country acting as mediators. In it statement, the Swiss government explained that enacting the EU sanctions is an attempt at preserving the neutrality.

“In reaching its decisions, the Federal Council took Switzerland’s neutrality and peace policy considerations into account. It reaffirmed Switzerland’s willingness to actively contribute to a solution to the conflict through its good offices,” it explained.

“Russia’s unprecedented military attack on a sovereign European country was the deciding factor in the Federal Council’s decision to change its previous stance on sanctions,” the Swiss government added. “The defence of peace and security and respect for international law are values that Switzerland, as a democratic country, shares with its European neighbours and supports. As before, Switzerland will examine each further package of sanctions imposed by the EU on a case-by-case basis.”

“Rising crude oil prices great opportunity for Nigeria” — President Buhari says

President Muhammadu Buhari says rising crude oil prices present a great opportunity for Nigeria, especially with the passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari said this on Monday in Abuja while declaring open the 5th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES).

The summit has as its theme: “Revitalising the Industry: ” Future Fuels and Energy Transition.”

Global crude oil prices went up to $104 per barrel on Monday following the ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

Represented by Chief Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, the president noted that the summit had been of great value in terms of policy input for government and business development resources for the private sector.

He said: ”Crude oil prices are on the rise again after turning negative in April 2020. It is a great opportunity for us as a country.

“With the PIA in place, there should be no excuses. The enabling investment environment which has been the bane of the industry has been taken care of by provisions in the PIA.

“There is now a level of certainty for the regulatory, administrative and fiscal framework and the legitimate grievances of host communities most impacted by activities of the industry has been addressed by the Act.”

Buhari said to demonstrate the government’s seriousness, the administration did not waste time with the implementation of PIA.

“We moved quickly and scrapped the existing agencies and replaced them with new ones. We have inaugurated their new Chief Executives too.

“We also ensured the incorporation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).

“The NNPCL is a limited liability company now and our target is to make it the biggest, the most capitalised and the most profitable company in the whole of Africa,” he said.

The president further told the summit that Nigeria had adopted gas as its transition fuel as the world moves towards cleaner sources of energy.

He said this informed the administration’s Decade of Gas Initiative, which aims to transform Nigeria into a gas-based industrialised nation through enhanced and accelerated gas revolution.

Buhari said: ”We will ensure further optimal exploitation and utilisation of the country’s vast natural gas resources.

“Given the country’s potential of about 600 trillion cubic feet, natural gas has the enormous potential to diversify and grow Nigeria’s economy.

”We are fully aware that energy transition raises the bar in terms of environmental, social and governance demands.

“We do not have to panic. We are already building blocks and bricks that will ensure seamless energy transition as the country joins in the race for net-zero carbon emission.”

The president said Nigeria was prepared to face the global demand for cleaner energy sources with the enactment of PIA, successful completion of the 2020 marginal oilfields bid round and the decade of the gas initiative.

“We are waiting to deliberate on the strategy paper from this summit and incorporate critical parts of it into government’s policies where necessary,” he said.

Global energy leaders are discussing the way forward and strategies for the management of Africa’s huge energy resources at the summit.

The summit, which opened on Monday, will end on March 3.

“Confusion” hits Russian soldiers as Google disables traffic maps in #Ukraine

Alphabet today confirmed with TechCrunch that it has disabled certain Google Maps live traffic tools in Ukraine.

The news, reported by Reuters, comes after the company has consulted with local authorities as the country faces attacks from Russian forces. The features will remain on for local turn-by-turn navigation for drivers, while broader global access is disabled.

The popular mapping technology has served a surprise role in the invasion of Ukraine since the outset. One research facility in California was able to spot the Russian approach toward the Ukrainian border hours before the “special military operation” was officially declared, using a combination of Maps traffic data and satellite imaging to spot traffic pileups.

“In the old days, we would have relied on a reporter to show us what was happening on the ground,” researcher Jeffrey Lewis told The Washington Post. “And today, you can open Google Maps and see people fleeing Kyiv.”

Alphabet’s move appears to stem from concerns that the information could similarly be exploited by the Russian military to track the Ukrainian troop movement. The corporation hasn’t offered anything in the way of specifics on the matter, including when the switch was flipped or whether it’s taken similar action amid other global conflicts.

On the ground, Ukrainians have been taking a far more old-school approach to the matter. The government’s road agency, Ukravtodor, began removing road signs in an attempt to confuse Russian forces.

“Let’s help them get straight to hell,” it wrote on social media on Saturday. “Ukravtodor calls on all road organizations, territorial communities, local governments to immediately begin dismantling nearby road signs.”

Alert! ‘Fast Cleaner App’ steals users’ bank details on Android devices – NCC warns

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has alerted Nigerians of a malicious app called ”Fast Cleaner” that steals the banking app login details on Android phone users.

Ikechukwu Adinde, NCC director of public affairs, issued the warning in a statement released this weekend.

Adinde said the NCC Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) discovered the Fast Cleaner app which claims to be a phone booster and battery saver tool but actually contains a malware named ‘Xenomorph’.

He said the application’s main operation is to steal credentials, combined with the use of SMS and notification interception to log-in and use potential two-factor authentication tokens.

“Xenomorph is propagated by an application that was slipped into Google Play store and masquerading as a legitimate application called “Fast Cleaner” ostensibly meant to clear junk, increase device speed and optimize battery. In reality, this app is only a means by which the Xenomorph Trojan could be propagated easily and efficiently.

To avoid early detection or being denied access to the PlayStore, “Fast Cleaner” was disseminated before the malware was placed on the remote server, making it hard for Google to determine that such an app is being used for malicious actions.

Once up and running on a victim’s device, Xenomorph can harvest device information and Short Messaging Service (SMS), intercept notifications and new SMS messages, perform overlay attacks, and prevent users from uninstalling it. The threat also asks for Accessibility Services privileges, which allow it to grant itself further permissions.

The CSIRT said the malware also steals victims’ banking credentials by overlaying fake login pages on top of legitimate ones.

Considering that it can also intercept messages and notifications, it allows its operators to bypass SMS-based two-factor authentication and log into the victims’ accounts without alerting them.”the statement read

Adinde added that a security advisory from the NCC CSIRT says the malware has a high impact and high vulnerability rate.

“Xenomorph has been found to target 56 internet banking apps, 28 from Spain, 12 from Italy, 9 from Belgium, and 7 from Portugal, as well as Cryptocurrency wallets and general-purpose applications like emailing services.

The Fast Cleaner app has now been removed from the Play Store but not before it garnered 50,000+ downloads.”the statement read

The commission also asked consumers and other stakeholders to always update banking applications to their most recent versions.

Putin sends 400 mercenaries to Kyiv to assassinate Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and his cabinet

More than 400 Russian mercenaries have reportedly been flown in from Africa to assassinate Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

A private militia known as the Wagner Group allegedly has orders from Vladimir Putin to take out Zelensky – and 23 other government figures – to allow Moscow to take over its eastern European neighbour.

According to the Times, the army-for-hire, run by oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin a close ally of the Russian president who is often dubbed ‘Putin’s chef’ – was flown in five weeks ago and is being offered a huge sum for the mission.

The highly-trained operatives are said to be waiting for the green light from the Kremlin to proceed, with their hit list also including Ukraine’s prime minister, the entire cabinet, mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko and his brother Wladimir – both boxing champions who have become iconic figures on the front lines of the capital.

However, the plans were rumbled after they reached the upper echelons of the Ukrainian government on Saturday morning, according to Mail Online.

It prompted Kyiv to declare a 36-hour ‘hard’ curfew, ordering everyone indoors so that soldiers could sweep the streets for Russian saboteurs.
Citizens were warned that they risked being ‘liquidated’ if they were spotted outside during the curfew hours, as they may be assumed to be the enemy.

A source with knowledge of the Wagner Group’s activities told the Times that between 2,000 and 4,000 mercenaries had actually arrived in Ukraine in January, but with different missions. Some were reportedly sent to the rebel-held regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in the east of the country – while the 400 tasked with taking out Zelensky headed to Kyiv from Belarus.

The group are said to be tracking Zelesnky and his colleagues via their mobile phones – claiming to know where they are at all times.

Another source claimed the killers-for-hire have been told to put on the brakes while Putin holds ‘peace talks’ with Zelensky this week.

But they have allegedly been informed that the Russian leader has no desire to reach a deal, branding the meeting on the Belarus border as ‘smoke and mirrors.’

Vladimir Putin maybe suffering from ‘brain disease’ caused by isolation due to Covid-19, experts claim

Long periods spent in isolation during the Covid pandemic may have fuelled Vladimir Putin’s ‘paranoia’ and ‘bunker mentality’, experts believe.

The Russian president had only limited contact with people over the last two years which left him with too much time ‘stewing in his own fears’, it is claimed.

Even those in his inner circle had to isolate for two weeks before a face-to-face meeting.

Meanwhile, his closest contacts had to provide faecal samples several times a week to check for infection.

Mr Putin’s state of mind has come under scrutiny after he announced the invasion of Ukraine in ‘rambling’ and ‘apocalyptic’ fashion.

Reports suggested he is suffering from ‘brain fog’ caused by long Covid.

Fears were raised again after US senator Marco Rubio suggested that the 69-year-old dictator is mentally unwell.

‘I wish I could share more, but for now I can say it’s pretty obvious to many that something is off with #Putin,’ the Florida Republican tweeted.

‘He has always been a killer, but his problem now is different & significant. It would be a mistake to assume this Putin would react the same way he would have 5 years ago.’

Tatiana Stanovaya, who has worked for leading Moscow-based think tanks, said Putin no longer asks for advice but ‘sets tasks and demands and they are implemented’.

She told The Times: ‘He has withdrawn into himself during the past two years. He has become distanced from the bureaucratic machinery, from the establishment, from the elite.’

Andrey Kortunov, head of the Russian International Affairs Council, told the BBC the decision to invade ‘surprised and shocked’ Putin’s own officials.

Many are ‘devastated to see what is happening’, he added.

Russia-Ukraine Crisis: Russian rouble continues to crash – 30% against the dollar

The Russia rouble has crashed by 30% against the US dollar, after the US and its allies announced new sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The new record low for the Russian currency comes after some of the country’s major banks were banned from using the Swift international payment system over the ongoing conflict with it’s neighbor, Ukraine.

Following the rouble crash, and the citizens rush to withdraw cash from banks and ATMs, Russia’s central bank on Sunday, February 27 appealed for calm.

The move by the European Union, United States and their allies to cut off a number of Russian banks from the Swift payment system is the harshest measure imposed to date on Moscow over the Ukraine conflict.

Also in addition to the Swift ban, assets of Russia’s central bank will also be frozen, limiting the country’s ability to access its overseas reserves.

The intention is to “further isolate Russia from the international financial system”, a joint statement said.

Russia is heavily reliant on the Swift system for its key oil and gas exports.

The new ban on the Central Bank of Russia’s ability to use its roughly $630bn in foreign reserves undermines its ability to defend the rouble. Inflation is likely to go up because of the currency’s weakness.

This leaves the central bank with a few options, including raising interest rates or limiting the amount of money that can be brought into or out of the country.

Russia’s central bank said it “has the necessary resources and tools to maintain financial stability and ensure the operational continuity of the financial sector”.

In the first day of trading since harsh new sanctions were imposed, the Russian rouble plunged to a new record low against the US dollar. The euro sank more than 1%, while the price of oil surged above $100 per barrel..

Since the sanctions were imposed, several Russians have been pictured waiting in long queues, worried that their bank cards may be stopped from working or that limits will be placed on the amount of cash they can withdraw.

Alexandre Moutin, head of investments at SMBC Private Wealth, believes “a bank run is already ongoing and will most likely intensify in the coming days”.

“The military conflict will last longer than Putin expected and the reaction of the West and the global community might be more harmful that he expected too,” he said to the press.

Happening now: Anonymous takes down over 300 Russian govt, state media & banks websites

Anonymous, a group of computer nerds who declared full scale cyber war against Russia for launching military action against Ukraine, says it has taken down more than 300 Russian government, state media and banks website in the last 48 hours.

The group confirmed the cyber attack through their official Twitter handle.

“#Anonymous takes down more than 300+ #Russian government, state media & banks websites in the last 48 hrs, with most of them currently offline.”

This is coming as the group yesterday claimed a significant victory against Russia after it managed to breach the Russian Ministry of Defence’s database and posted it online for the world to see.

Among the information released to the public according to Anonymous included emails, passwords and telephone numbers.

Nigerian Govt. condemns bad treatment of Nigerians fleeing from Russia-Ukraine crisis by security officials

Nigeria's revenue has dropped to more than 60% - President Buhari

The federal government of Nigeria has frowned at the bad treatment given to Nigerians who are fleeing from Russia-Ukraine crisis to Poland.

In a statement made by the media aide to President Muhammedu Buhari, Garba Shehu said the prevention of Nigerians from boarding buses and trains which are heading to Poland border by security operatives is not the right way to go.

Garba Shehu in the statement said that all who flee a conflict situation have the same right to safe passage under UN Convention and the colour of their passport or their skin should make no difference.

He said, “While efforts to begin talks between Russia and Ukraine are underway, paramount on our minds is the safety and human rights of some four thousand Nigerian citizens and many others from friendly African nations today stranded in Ukraine.

“There is a long history dating back to decades of Nigerians and other Africans studying in Ukraine, particularly medicine. The majority of Nigerian citizens in the country today are university-enrolled students.

“From video evidence, first-hand reports, and from those in contact with their wards and/or Nigerian consular officials there have been unfortunate reports of Ukrainian police and security personnel refusing to allow Nigerians to board buses and trains heading towards the Ukraine-Poland border.

“In one video widely circulating on social media, a Nigerian mother with her young baby was filmed being physically forced to give up her seat to another person.

“There are also separate reports of Polish officials simply refusing Nigerian citizens’ entry into Poland from Ukraine.

“One group of Nigerian students having been repeatedly refused entry into Poland have concluded they have no choice but to travel again across Ukraine and attempt to exit the country via the border with Hungary.

“We understand the pain and fear that is confronting all people who find themselves in this terrifying place

“We also appreciate that those in official positions in security and border management will in most cases be experiencing impossible expectations in a situation they never expected.

“But, for that reason, it is paramount that everyone is treated with dignity and without favour.

“All who flee a conflict situation have the same right to safe passage under UN Convention and the colour of their passport or their skin should make no difference.

“As a nation, we are proud of those educated in Kyiv and Kharkiv and other cities and centres of learning who have returned to Nigeria to perform great service for our nation and our people.

Without the generosity of spirit of the Ukrainian people that would never have been possible.

“We pray for those directly affected by this conflict.

“Nigeria, with our 200 million people, support all and every diplomatic effort to bring this war to an end.”

Economic Panic in #Russia as economy falls- shows that ‘our sanctions are working’, German chancellor says

Panic in Russia as nation’s economy plunged to record lows with people concerned about their savings.

Russians waited in long queues outside ATMs on Sunday, worried that the new Western sanctions over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine will trigger cash shortages.

One of the factor that contributed the problem was the decision of United Kingdom to impose sanction against
Russia in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

It was gathered that
New rules will make it illegal to do business with Russia’s central bank, national wealth fund or treasury.

The new round of moves, which also includes further restrictions on Russian financial institutions, continue efforts to cut off its economy in retaliation for the invasion.

Scary sanctions slammed by Western allies against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine are already showing effect, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Sunday, warning that further embargoes could come if Moscow failed to change course.

“Already in the last week, the Russian stock markets sank by more than 30 percent. That shows: our sanctions are working,” said Scholz.

“And we reserve the right to impose further sanctions,” he warned.

US and the west exclude some Russian banks from SWIFT

Germany and its Western allies agreed Saturday to cut “selected” Russian banks out of the SWIFT global payment system.

The move is part of a new round of sanctions targeting Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The US, EU and UK also agreed to impose ”restrictive measures” on Russia’s Central Bank.

The measures were announced jointly and mark a major escalation of sanctions against Moscow.

“This will ensure that these banks are disconnected from the international financial system and harm their ability to operate globally,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said after a videoconference with the leaders of the US, Germany, France, Italy and Canada.

“All of these measures will significantly harm [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s ability to finance his war and they will have a severely eroding impact on his economy,” she said. “Putin embarked on a path aiming to destroy Ukraine, but what he is also doing in fact is destroying the future of his own country.”

The restrictions on the Central Bank target the more than $600 billion (€530 billion) in reserves that the Kremlin has at its disposal.

US officials said the new sanctions aimed to send the ruble into “free fall” and promote soaring inflation in the Russian economy.

The allies also announced a commitment to “taking measures to limit the sale of citizenship — so-called golden passports — that let wealthy Russians connected to the Russian government become citizens of our countries and gain access to our
financial systems.”

Ukraine grateful for financial sanctions on Russia

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal took to Twitter to thank the countries for the latest round of financial sanctions.

“Thanks to our friends … for the commitment to remove several Russian banks from SWIFT,” and for “the paralysis of the assets of the central bank of Russia,” he said.

Germany changes course on SWIFT

The move was made possible after Germany dropped opposition to kicking Russia out of the SWIFT system. Berlin had been reluctant to take that step because it could also have a negative impact on Germany’s economy.

Earlier on Saturday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Economy Minister Robert Habeck said in a joint statement that they were “urgently working on how to limit the collateral damage of decoupling from SWIFT in such a way that it affects the right people.”

“What we need is a targeted and functional restriction of SWIFT,” the ministers said.

In an apparent concession to Berlin, the Western powers agreed that the ban would only apply to selected banks.

The SWIFT financial system moves billions of dollars around more than 11,000 banks and other financial institutions worldwide on a daily basis.

France Govt. seizes #Russian cargo ship in Channel

The French navy has intercepted a cargo ship in the English channel bound for the Russian city of St Petersburg, the BBC has learned.

French officials told the BBC that the ship was intercepted in line with new EU sanctions and say it has been redirected to the northern port of Boulogne-Sur-Mer.

“A 127 meters long Russia cargo ship called the ‘Baltic Leader’ transporting cars has been intercepted overnight by the French Navy in the Channel and escorted to the Port of Boulogne-Sur-Mer in Northern France,” the official said.

“It has been taken to the French port after a request by the French government because it is suspected of belonging to a company targeted by EU sanctions against Moscow. French boarder forces are currently investigating the cargo ship. Crew aboard the ‘Baltic Leader’ has been cooperating with French authorities.”

The Russian embassy in France is seeking explanations from the French authorities over the seizure, Russia’s RIA news agency said.

Elon Musk ‘switchs on’ Starlink satellites to ensure Internet access in #Ukraine

Elon Musk said Saturday his company SpaceX’s Starlink satellite broadband service had been activated in Ukraine, after a Kyiv official urged the tech titan to provide his embattled country with stations.

“Starlink service is now active in Ukraine,” Musk tweeted, adding “more terminals en route.”

The tweet came some 10 hours after Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov urged Musk to provide Starlink services to Ukraine, days after it was invaded by neighboring Russia.

“While you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations,” Fedorov tweeted at Musk.

He also called on the billionaire “to address sane Russians to stand” against their government’s invasion.

Internet monitor NetBlocks said Ukraine has seen a “series of significant disruptions to internet service” since Thursday, when Russia launched military operations in the country.

Starlink operates a constellation of more than 2,000 satellites that aim to provide internet access across the planet.

The company on Friday launched a further 50 Starlink satellites and many more are slated to be put into Earth’s orbit.

Millionaire Pakistani man sentenced to death for raping and beheading his girlfriend after she rejected his proposal

The Pakistani-American son of a wealthy property tycoon has been sentenced to death for raping and beheading his girlfriend after she rejected his marriage proposal at his Islamabad home.

Recall that in July last year, Zahir Jaffer, 30, kidnapped his childhood friend Noor Mukadam, 27, then tortured her for 3 days before beheading her.

According to police, Jaffer sexually assaulted Noor,  tortured her with brass knuckles, and used a “sharp-edged weapon” to behead her when she turned him down.

Wealthy Pakistani American man sentenced to death for raping and beheading his girlfriend after she rejected his proposal

Mukadam, the daughter of a former ambassador to South Korea and Kazakhstan, had made repeated attempts to escape Jaffer’s sprawling mansion but was blocked by two members of his staff.

Prosecutors said Noor Mukadam jumped out of a window at Jaffar’s home when he refused to accept her rejection, CBS News reported.

Jaffer then ordered a security guard and a cook to capture her before he killed her, the prosecutors reportedly said.

After the murder, Jafffer’s parents, Asmat and Zakir, who run one of Pakistan’s largest trading and project management firms, were accused of “not only causing abatement” but also for making the “utmost efforts to wipe off evidence”.

Jaffer’s parents knew about the kidnapping, according to the judge in a statement seen by dawn.com, and had “prompt information” about the horrors allegedly conducted by their son.

Less than a year after the incident, Jaffer has been sentenced to death.

“The main accused has been awarded the death sentence,” Judge Atta Rabbani said at the Islamabad district court on Thursday, Feb. 24, according to Agence France-Presse.

Jaffer’s parents were found not guilty of trying to cover up the crime.

The two staff members who prevented Noor from escaping Jaffer’s apartment were sentenced to 10 years in prison for abetting murder.

“I am happy that justice has been served,” said Noor’s dad, Shuakat Mukadam, who pledged to challenge the acquittal of the killer’s parents.

“I’ve been saying that this is not just my daughter’s case, it is a case for all the daughters of my country,” he said, according to Reuters.

Jaffer, who was frequently carried into proceedings by stretcher or wheelchair, was thrown out of court several times for unruly behavior, according to AFP. At one point, he also claimed someone else had killed Mukadam during a “drug party” at his home.

Jaffer’s lawyers argued he should be found not “mentally sound” but prosecutors argued that was a tactic designed to have the trial suspended.

Jaffer initially claimed he couldn’t be put on trial in Pakistan because he is an American citizen. However, the US Embassy in Islamabad said it had no involvement in criminal cases against its citizens overseas other than to provide information on legal counsel, check that they are not mistreated and offer to contact relatives, according to CBS News.

According to the court verdict, Jaffer will be “hanged by his neck until he is dead”, but he was also given a concurrent sentence of 25 years behind bars for abduction and rape.

Below is a video of the suspects being led away after the sentencing.

Italy and Germany have ‘disgraced themselves’ over #Russia sanctions

A former head of the European Council says Germany and Italy have “disgraced themselves” after blocking tough sanctions against Russia.

This comes as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused European countries of not doing enough to stop the Russian invasion.

The EU hailed a 2am agreement on a “massive” package of measures in punishment for the Ukraine invasion, including a freeze on assets and a block on Russian banks’ access to European financial markets.

But there is an exemption for Moscow’s main source of revenue – energy exports – which means its banks will still enjoy lucrative revenues from gas and oil sales.

And Germany, France and Italy opposed a UK request to shut Russia out of the SWIFT international payments system – despite Ukraine saying the West would have “blood on its hands” if it refused.

The German finance minister, Christian Lindner, admitted Berlin refused to go further because of “a high risk that Germany will no longer be supplied with gas or raw materials”.

Donald Tusk, the European Commission president during the Brexit negotiations, hit out at EU countries for their “pretend” sanctions.

“In this war everything is real: Putin’s madness and cruelty, Ukrainian victims, bombs falling on Kyiv. Only your sanctions are pretended,” he tweeted.

“Those EU governments, which blocked tough decisions (i.e. Germany, Hungary, Italy) have disgraced themselves.”

In the meantime, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has told Ukrainian troops “you are all we have” as he accused European countries of not doing enough to stop the Russian invasion.

Mr Zelenskyy said tougher sanctions need to be imposed on Moscow as his troops battled Russian forces closing in on the capital.

Tougher measures he suggested included banning Russians from entering the European Union, cutting Moscow off from the SWIFT global payments system and an oil embargo.

“The invasion of Russia into Ukraine is not just an invasion, it’s the beginning of the war against Europe,” Mr Zelenskyy said. “Against the unity of Europe. Against basic human rights in Europe. Against all rules of coexistence on the continent. Against the fact that European states refuse to divide borders by force.”

“What are you going to do about it?” he asked in a televised address.

“How are you going to defend yourselves if you are so slow helping us in Ukraine?”

He said Europe “has enough strength to stop this aggression”.

Cutting Russia off from the SWIFT global payments system would be one of the toughest sanctions the West could impose – but it would also involve pain for foreign banks and other creditors that do business with the country.

The system, which has its headquarters in Belgium, is used by more than 11,000 financial institutions in more than 200 countries and territories to send money and information to each other.

The UK is also now backing such a measure but it would require unanimity – a lack of which US president Joe Biden is blaming on Europe.

The move would have a major impact, damaging Russia’s economy immediately and in the long term.

It would cut Russia off from most international financial transactions, including international profits from oil and gas production, which in all accounts for more than 40% of the country’s revenue.

Shortly after his comments the EU decided to freeze European assets held by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, according to an unnamed EU official.

The US and EU have made it clear that they would not stop imports of Russian gas.
