“I am their first target, my family the second” – Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky says

Ukraine president, Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he believes that Russian special forces have entered the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv and have earmarked him to be killed by all means possible.

In a video statement late Thursday, February 24, Zelensky, clad in military camouflage said:  “According to our information, the enemy marked me as target No. 1, my family, as target No. 2. They want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state. We have information that enemy sabotage groups have entered Kyiv.”

He added: “I am staying in the government quarter together with others.”

He also announced that Ukrainian males aged 18-60 are banned from leaving the country, in order to support the country militarily against Russian attacks as he orders a general military mobilization.

In a declaration signed late Thursday, Zelensky said that “in order to ensure the defense of the state, maintaining combat and mobilization readiness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, a broad-based mobilization was ordered, including in the capital, Kyiv and all Ukraine’s major cities.”

“Mobilization shall be carried out within 90 days from the date of entry into force of this Decree,” the announcement said.

The mobilization also instructed “the Security Service of Ukraine to take counterintelligence measures during the general mobilization.”

It ordered the “conscription of conscripts, reservists for military service, their delivery to military units and institutions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” and other state security services.

“In particular, it is forbidden for men aged 18-60, Ukraine citizens, to leave the borders of Ukraine,” the statement said. “This regulation will remain in effect for the period of the legal regime of martial law. We ask the citizens to take this information into consideration.”

His message comes after Russia’s assault before dawn on Thursday with a series of missile attacks against locations near Kyiv and the use of long-range artillery against the city of Kharkiv, near the Russian border.

It quickly spread across central and eastern Ukraine as Russian forces attacked the country from three sides.

Mum sells her son so that she can travel to Dubai, has been jailed for 12 years

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has imprisoned two women, Chinaza Smart, and Amarachi Ahukanna, to 12 years’ each for conspiracy and child trafficking.

According to PUNCH, Chinaza, 21, and Ahukanna, 28, were found guilty of conspiring to sell the former’s two-year-old son, Daniel, for the sum of N400,000 to a woman identified as Precious from Anambra State.

The Chief Magistrate, Felicitas Amanze, in her judgement, said the two accused persons committed a heinous crime against an innocent child whose whereabouts was still unknown.

She said the second defendant (Ahukanna), who introduced the first defendant (Chinaza) to the child trafficking business lied to the court that she did not convince her to sell her son in order to raise money to travel to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where she could earn N400,000 monthly.

The chief magistrate ruled that Ahukanna was a chronic and unrepentant child trafficker and sentenced the duo to five years on count one of conspiracy and seven years on count two of child trafficking, which would run consecutively.

Speaking to newsmen outside the courtroom, a legal officer with the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Mrs Esther Acho-Korienta, hailed the judgement and expressed the hope that it would serve as a deterrent to other child traffickers.

She said, “The two young ladies conspired to sell the child of the first defendant in the name of travelling to Dubai for business.

“The second defendant approached the first defendant that she earned N400,000 monthly in Dubai, that why would she continue suffering under her boyfriend instead of going to Dubai to do the kind of business she was doing.

“They sold the two-year-old child to a woman at Ihiala, Anambra State, and till date, the child has not been found.

“The second defendant also sold one of her own children in order to also travel to Dubai.”

President Buhari finally signs electoral act bill into law

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the long-awaited Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 into law.

This was disclosed on Twitter by presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, on Friday February 25.

He tweeted: “BREAKING: President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 into law.”

The President signed the amendment bill into law at 12:25pm at a brief ceremony held at the federal executive council (FEC) chamber in the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, and Kayode Fayemi, chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) were present at the signing ceremony.

Buhari had initially rejected the bill after the national assembly made direct primary compulsory for political parties in the country.

The president said the provision “violates the spirit of democracy”.

The senate and house of representatives then reworked the bill to provide for indirect and direct primary, as well as consensus candidates.

The legislation was transmitted to the president on January 31 after both chambers of the national assembly had reworked it.

Electronic transmission of election results is part of the new provisions in the bill.

Pentagon Orders Deployment Of 7000 US Troops To Europe Amid Russia Attack On Ukraine

The US Secretary of Defense has ordered the deployment of 7,000 US service members to Europe, a senior defense official told reporters shortly after US President Joe Biden announced strong sanctions on Russia attack on Ukraine.

Biden said he’d authorized “the deployment of ground and air forces already stationed in Europe,” to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania. He also said he’d authorized “additional US force capabilities” be sent to Germany as part of NATO’s response, including some forces that had been placed on standby several weeks ago.

“This would comprise an armored brigade combat team with associated capabilities and enablers. They will deploy to Germany to reassure NATO Allies, deter Russian aggression and be prepared to support a range of requirements in the region. We expect them to depart in the coming days,” the official said.

In White House remarks, Biden reiterated that US forces “are not and will not be engaged in a conflict with Russia in Ukraine.”

“Our forces are not going to Europe to fight in Ukraine, but to defend our NATO allies and reassure those allies in the East,” he added.

Biden also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is disconnected from the rest of the world and wants to revive the former Soviet Union.

“He has much larger ambitions than Ukraine. He wants to, in fact, reestablish the former Soviet Union. That’s what this is about. And I think that his ambitions are completely are contrary to the place where the rest of the world has arrived.”

Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, sent in his forces early on Thursday in what he termed a ‘special military operation’.

Prior to the invasion, analysts and intelligence experts believed Putin had up to 190,000 troops on Ukraine’s borders at various locations.

The battle for control of the airport was captured in astonishing footage obtained by CNN, when their reporter, Matthew Chance, drove to the town of Hostomel – 20 miles from the center of Kyiv.

Hostomel, home to the Antonov Airport, is seen as a vital staging point for Russian invaders due to its proximity to the capital.

Chance spoke to some of the soldiers there, assuming they were Ukrainian, and was shocked when they told him they were Russian airborne troops.

The airborne units are considered elite forces, specially selected for their skill and ability to parachute in during the initial attack.

Yet by Thursday evening, Ukraine’s government said that they had retaken control of the airport.

Diddy almost let 2pac’s fiancee Kidada Jones drink his urine – Ex- bodyguard claims

Music executive, Diddy’s former bodyguard Eugene Deal has revealed how the Bad Boy Records mogul almost let Tupac Shakur’s fiancée drink his urine.

Deal recently sat down with The Art of Dialogue show and touched on the ’90s East Coast-West Coast Hip Hop rivalry.

Diddy almost let 2pac

Deal

According to Deal, Diddy was at an awards ceremony where he thought he had a chance to win “Producer of the Year.”

Shortly before the ceremony started, he claims Diddy took one of the pitchers on their table and peed in it.

Kidada Jones, producer Quincy Jones’ daughter and 2Pac’s girlfriend at the time, then walked over to Diddy’s table and started a conversation.

“She was talking to Puff and then next thing you know, she reached over to the pitcher and poured her a glass of … ginger-pee,” Deal said.

“She was about to drink it and [Diddy’s bodyguard] Wolf stopped her from doing it.”

Deal went on to reveal that Kidada Jones — who was also friends with the mother of Diddy’s children Kim Porter  was involved in the party that preceded Biggie’s March 1997 murder and that possibly could’ve been the reason Diddy was about to let her drink his urine.

“Nah, he didn’t stop her,” he continued. “I guess he was [going to let her]. We was all guilty at that time. No lie. We was all guilty. Wolf was the only one … I think Wolf knew her personally, too. I didn’t know who she was at first. That doesn’t really excuse from not saying nothing but …”

When asked if Deal thought Diddy knew Jones was 2Pac’s girl, he confirmed, “Yeah. That industry shit is so close. I could tell you a million girls that’s married to rappers, that been with rappers, with this one and that one that I used to put in the cab every morning at 9 o’clock from Puff’s house. They all do the same chicks, man.”

Kidada Jones accompanied 2Pac on the Las Vegas trip where he was killed in September 1996. In a 1997 article from Vanity Fair, she remembered ‘Pac not wanting to go to the Mike Tyson fight at the MMG Grand that night, but he’d already promised Suge Knight he would. He also decided not to take his bullet proof vest because he thought it would “be too hot.”

She says she regrets the decision till this day. 2Pac was shot 13 times shortly after leaving the fight and rushed to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Kim Kardashian is still with Kanye West as she uses Pete Davison as rebound guy, new report claims

A new report has claimed that Kim Kardashian is still clinging on to estranged husband, Kanye West.

Sources close to Kim say that she is still clinging on to the billionaire rapper and is using boyfriend, Pete Davidson as her ‘rebound’ guy.

According to Closer magazine, Kim is ‘confused’ in between Kanye and Pete amid the rapper’s constant efforts to get her back.

“Kim and Kanye can’t seem to let each other go and move on – they’re still desperately clinging on to one another,” the insider told.

“Kanye’s frustrations is sparked by his longing to get Kim back and those close to her believe that she may even be flaunting her romance with Pete in a bid to get attention from Kanye. So this battle seems to be rooted in not being able to leave one another alone.”

The source continued: “It seems Kim has thrown herself into a rebound fling all aimed at riling Kanye.

“While Kim is still clinging on to Pete, there is a belief among her friends that there’s no longevity in it and she’s hinted that it’s never going to be her happy ever after.”

The report comes after Kim and all her sisters unfollowed Kanye West on Instagram last week after his scathing comments about the comedian Pete Davidson.

Kim and Kanye married in 2014 and share four children, North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.

Israel drums its support for #Ukraine as they offer humanitarian assistance

Israel has issued its first official statement on the crisis between Kyiv and Moscow, saying they support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Israel also announced they are prepared to transfer immediate humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry statement added, and it is engaged in dialogue with its partners on ways to restore the diplomatic path.

The statement, however, did not address Russia by name, reflecting the complicated position Israel has found itself in over the crisis unfolding 3,000 kilometers away. An Israeli diplomatic official who asked to remain anonymous said, “We did the minimum required so now we can go back to sitting on the sidelines.”

While the Ukrainians declined to comment on the Israeli statement officially, a diplomatic source, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, indicated that it did not go far enough to suit his government.

“This is better than nothing but this isn’t the statement we expected,” the source told Haaretz.

Speaking by phone from the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky told Haaretz that while Wednesday’s statement did not constitute an outright condemnation of Russia, it was “far stronger than our usual position.”

“The main thing is that we explicitly mentioned the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, which has never been said before by us officially. We used to say we recognized the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but I don’t think we ever said it in an official statement of the foreign ministry.”

According to a political source, the statement “reflects the balance between Israel’s political and security interests.” Referencing Israel’s relationship with both Syria and Putin, he added “The United States and the world understand the complexity of our situation. “

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett had initially pushed his cabinet to maintain strict public neutrality on the developments in eastern Ukraine in recent weeks, distributing a set of talking points that ministers were expected to stick to judiciously.

But on Monday, one of the senior Israeli officials changed their tune and said that, should the Ukraine crisis escalate into a diplomatic and economic clash between Washington and Moscow, Israel would back the United States.

In its statement on the conflict, Israel’s government said it shares the concern of the international community regarding the steps taken in eastern Ukraine and that it is continuing to engage in dialogue with its partners on ways to get the diplomatic efforts back on track.

Israel is also concerned about the welfare of the thousands of Israeli citizens and the large Jewish community living in Ukraine, the statement read.

Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli, chair of the Labor Party, said Monday that “there is no question that the special relationship that Israel has with the United States, that this government is working to rehabilitate and rebuild, is not the same relationship that Israel has with Russia.” Michaeli is a member of Israel’s ministerial security cabinet.

“Our heart is in the direction of the United States,” weighed in Diaspora Affairs Minister Nachman Shai, telling Channel 12 on Israeli TV that Israel was working hard not to “take a clear public position, with the great hope that this crisis will end without fire, without casualties and without a military confrontation.” However, he added, “we know where we stand on the international map.”

Boy eats leftover rice & noodles, fell ill, had legs & fingers amputated few hours later

Hours after eating leftovers from a restaurant, a 19-year-old was admitted to the hospital with multiple organ failure and later had both his legs and all his fingers amputated.

The Massachusetts college student had eaten rice, chicken and lo mein from a restaurant. Soon after, he felt abdominal pain and his skin turned a shade of purple, according to a report by The New England Journal of Medicine.

The teenager was admitted to a hospital for “shock, multiple organ failure, and rash,” and his condition quickly declined. He experienced abnormal breathing, high blood pressure and vomiting. The student had been healthy overall with regular drinking and smoking habits, the report said.

After further tests, he was diagnosed with meningococcal purpura fulminan disease, which caused his stiff neck, nausea, respiratory collapse, shock and organ failure, according to the report. The condition is caused by bacteria and brings symptoms such as sudden fever and vomiting. The Centers for Disease and Control Prevention warns it can “lead to death in as little as a few hours.”

Experts have warned against the dangers of improperly storing leftover rice because items such as rice and pasta contain a bacterium called Bacillus cereus. The bacteria produces a toxin when heated and left out too long, according to the CDC. In 2008, a teenager died in his sleep after eating leftover pasta that wasn’t refrigerated overnight, a case that was reported in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology.

The medical team learned that although the Massachusetts student had received a first dose of the meningococcal vaccine, he never received the recommended booster. His roommate also ate the leftover food and vomited but didn’t have life-threatening reactions.

In an early-morning address in Moscow on Thursday February 24, Putin said: ‘To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside – if you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history.’

The United Nations Security Council had just convened an emergency meeting Wednesday night when Putin took to Russian airwaves to announce the invasion at 5:50am Moscow time.

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, had urged Putin to stop his tanks.

‘If indeed an operation is being prepared, I have only one thing to say from the bottom of my heart,’ said Guterres.

‘President Putin, stop your troops from attacking Ukraine. Give peace a chance. Too many people have already died.’

Putin ignored the plea, going on TV to describe the invasion as a ‘special military occupation’ and said he wants to ‘demilitarize’ and ‘de-Nazify’, not occupy, the country.

He told Ukrainian service members to ‘lay down their arms and go home,’ saying Russia could not exist with a ‘constant threat emanating from the territory of Ukraine’ and clashes between Russian and Ukrainian solders was ‘inevitable.’

President Joe Biden responded to Putin’s attack Wednesday night, saying: ‘The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces.’

‘President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering. Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable,’ his statement continued.

Biden added that he would be monitoring the situation from the White House the remainder of the night and will be getting regular updates from his security team.

The president plans to meet with his G7 counterparts on Thursday morning, and will speak to the American people to announce the ‘further consequences the United States and our Allies and partners will impose on Russia for this needless act of aggression against Ukraine and global peace and security.’

‘We will also coordinate with our NATO Allies to ensure a strong, united response that deters any aggression against the Alliance. Tonight, Jill and I are praying for the brave and proud people of Ukraine,’ he concluded his statement.

Donald Trump blames the ‘incompetence and stupidity’ of the Biden for Putin’s war on #Ukraine

Former US President, Donald Trump has blamed his 2020 loss for Russia’s war on Ukraine, suggesting that this wouldn’t have happened under his administration.

Speaking to Fox’s Laura Ingraham as the Kremlin’s ‘special military operation’ began, Trump claimed that the so-called ‘Russia hoax’ ruined his good relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi, arguing he kept the two apart.

Ingraham asked Trump about the continuing closeness between Putin and Xi.

‘Well, I had a good relationship with both,’ he said. ‘It was hurt by the Russia hoax. You see what happened with Durham and those reports and other reports including Mueller. It was just a made-up hoax and it really hurt our country but despite the hoax, I had a good relationship and with president XI of China, other than the fact that I was tariff-ing and taxing the hell out of him.’

‘As a young man growing up, I always heard that the worst thing that could happen is drive those two countries together. It really started with Obama and energy. He drove them together because one needed the energy and the other needed the money,’ Trump added. ‘He drove them together and Biden — I kept them apart – and Biden now it’s a great love fest and that’s a very bad thing and I think you can probably add Iran into it too.’

Earlier in the interview, in which Trump spoke over the phone with Ingraham, Trump bemoaned that this was happening at all.

‘This should have never happened. This would not have happened during my administration. In fact, some people are saying why didn’t this take place over the last four years? It didn’t for a very good reason and I’ll explain that to you someday, but it wouldn’t have taken place and it wouldn’t have taken place right now. It’s a sad thing for the world and the country and a lot of people that will be needlessly killed.’

Trump argued he’d have used his good relationship with Putin to stop this from happening.

‘Well, I know him very well. We had many, many times together. I got along with him fantastically despite the fact I shut down Nord Stream-2, nobody would’ve heard of Nord Stream 2 if it weren’t for me. I am the one that shut it down.’

Trump then linked the invasion with the failed pullout from Afghanistan by the Biden administration in 2021.

‘It’s a terrible thing the way it started, I don’t believe he wanted to do this initially,’ Trump said. ‘I think he wanted to do something and negotiate it and had got worse and worse. He saw the weakness and you know, it really started with the weakness in Afghanistan. The way they pulled out of Afghanistan. I really believe that’s where he started thinking he could do this.’

Ingraham then asked Trump what he thought of President Biden’s approach, in which Ingraham said Biden was ‘monitoring the situation’ and then would talk to fellow G7 leaders Thursday.

‘I don’t think he’s monitoring, I think he is probably sleeping right now,’ Trump retorted. ‘This is a terrible thing that should never have happened. I really believe that it was Afghanistan, when he looked at that horrible, weak pullout.’

Trump added that he believes Putin sees this as ‘the weakness and the incompetence and the stupidity of [the Biden] administration.’

‘As an American, I am angry and saddened,’ he continued. ‘It all happened because of a rigged election. That includes inflation and that includes millions of people pouring in on a monthly basis – far more than three million people – and they’re coming from 129 different countries. They are destroying our country.

#Russia invades and bombards #Ukraine, As Putin announces full military operation (video)

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday February 24, announced a military operation in Ukraine and warned other countries that any attempt to interfere with the Russian action would lead to “consequences they have never seen.”

Putin who accused the U.S. and its allies of ignoring Russia’s demand to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and offer Moscow security guarantees, claimed that Russia’s goal was not to occupy Ukraine.

The Russian President also said the attack was needed to protect civilians in Eastern Ukraine, a claim the U.S. had predicted he would falsely make to justify an invasion.

Explosions were heard in several Ukrainian cities within hours of the Russian leader’s announcement that he’d ordered military action in the country’s east.

Putin’s announcement, broadcast Thursday at 5 a.m. local time in Ukraine, prompted immediate condemnation from the US and its allies, which have threatened to enact “full scale” sanctions in the event of Russian military action.

Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted on his official page that “peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strikes” and called the situation “a war of aggression.”

An adviser for the Ukraine Interior Minister, Anton Gerashchenko, told journalists Russia’s “invasion has begun” with “missile strikes on Kyiv,” the capital.

Gerashchenko said troops had landed in the city of Odessa and were crossing the border in Kharkiv, the second-largest city in Ukraine located in the country’s northeast. In a post on his Facebook page, he also said control centers such as airfields and military headquarters were being hit by shelling in Kyiv and Kharkiv, and that there was artillery fire along the border.

In the address, broadcast on Russian national television, Putin urged Ukrainian forces to lay down their arms and go home, saying all responsibility for possible bloodshed will be entirely on the conscience of the Ukrainian government.

But he added: “Our plans are not to occupy Ukraine, we do not plan to impose ourselves on anyone.”

Before the announcement of military action,Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed for peace but vowed the country would defend itself.

Zelensky said;

“We have no need for another Cold war, or a bloody war, or a hybrid war.

“But if we are attacked militarily, if they try to take away our freedom, our lives, our children’s’ lives, we will defend ourselves. When you attack, you will see our faces and not our spines, our faces.”

U.S. President Joe Biden denounced the “unprovoked and unjustified” attack on Ukraine and said the world will “hold Russia accountable.”

A full-blown Russian invasion could cause massive casualties and topple Ukraine’s democratically elected government. And the consequences of the conflict and resulting sanctions levied on Russia could reverberate throughout the world, affecting energy supplies in Europe, jolting global financial markets and threatening the post-Cold War balance on the continent.

A Russian military operation aims to ensure a “demilitarization” of Ukraine. Before Putin’s address, Russia issued a notice banning civil aircraft from flight routes bordering north-eastern Ukraine. Separately, Ukrainian aviation authorities issued a notice restricting Ukrainian airspace in the regions around the capital Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odessa and Simferopol.

Breaking:Missing flight MH370 with 239 passengers and crew was ‘brought down by a murder suicide plot’

The Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight that went missing was lost in a murder-suicide plot, two top air crash investigators have concluded.

During the Sky News documentary MH370: The Final Search which aired on Tuesday night, top aviation safety investigator and retired pilot, John Cox said the loss of MH370 was no accident.

The Malaysia Airlines flight was carrying 239 passengers and crew when it went missing above the Indian ocean.

The baffling loss of the plane prompted search efforts and speculation when it went missing in 2014.

Cox believes that the evidence doesn’t stack up with existing theories.

He told Sky the plane’s twisting route leaves no doubt the flight had been commandeered by one of the captains.

‘I think the evidence is pretty overwhelming that the aeroplane could not have flown the route it did with all the respective turns without that being a commandeered manoeuvre.’ Cox told News Corp Australia.

He added that the route had to have been flown by someone with expert knowledge and ability, leading him to suspect the pilot and First Officer were responsible for the flight’s path.

Cox said the pilot, Shah, was the only one aboard with the knowledge and experience to disable MH370’s datalink system.

For that reason Cox doesn’t think the co-pilot, First Officer Fariq Abdul Hamid had a role in the disappearance.

However, due to the levels of certainty required in the Malay air crash probe, Cox said his theory is likely never going to be proven.

Also featuring in the documentary, Canadian aviation crash investigator Larry Vance said that the events leading up to the Malaysian Airlines flight crash were quite simple.

‘MH370 was a criminal act, the aircraft was intentionally ditched, exactly as I described in my book (MH370: Mystery Solved), of this I have no doubt,’ he told News Corp.

An Australian widow whose husband disappeared on ill-fated MH370 believes the plane was deliberately crashed into the ocean.

Danica Weeks spent years insisting the Malaysian Airlines flight, which vanished on March 8, 2014, crashed due to a mechanical failure.  Her then-husband Paul was one of 239 people on board the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, which lost contact with operators shortly after take off and has never been found.

But after a new expert analysis of satellite data by British aerospace engineer Richard Godfrey found the plane likely crashed in the Indian Ocean, west of Australia, the mother-of-two now believes the crash was an act of murder.

‘I was so staunch about saying it wasn’t the pilot,’ she told Sky News. ‘But now I have to throw all of that out after nearly eight years (since the disappearance) and three years of searching (for the plane, by the authorities).

Mexican woman faces 100 lashes and 7-year jail after reporting she was raped while working in Qatar

A female World Cup official is facing a sentence of 100 lashes and seven years in jail for ‘extramarital sex’ after she reported she was raped while working in Qatar.

Paola Schietekat, 28, from Mexico, was working for the World Cup organising committee when she complained she was raped by an associate who broke into her apartment and threatened to kill her.

She reported the June 6, 2021 attack to the Qatari authorities, which responded by accusing her of having an affair and charged her with ‘extramarital sex’, which is illegal in the Gulf state.

Schietekat was told by lawyers that one way of avoiding conviction was to marry her attacker but instead decided to flee the country, leaving behind what she called her ‘dream job’.

The charges against Schietekat, who is a behavioural economist, are still valid and she is expected to be sentenced in absentia on March 6.

Schietekat, writing on Julio Astillero, explained that her alleged attacker was able to gain access to her apartment in Doha because it is common for residents to leave their doors unlocked and rely on the security of the building.

The man allegedly managed to wrestle her to the floor and rape her, leaving her arms, shoulders, and back covered in bruises.

Schietekat said she took pictures of the scene and documented what had happened on her phone before fleeing her home and spending the night in a hotel, fearing her attacker would return.

The following morning she got a medical certificated and, with an official from the Mexican consul in Doha, reported the alleged rape to Qatari police using her limited Arabic.

Police asked whether she wanted a restraining order against the attacker or to press criminal charges against him. Schietekat told police she wanted to press charges and signed a statement in Arabic to the effect, giving officers the name and details of the man.

However, hours later, around 9pm, she was called and told to return to the station where she put in front of the man she had accused and questioned for three hours in Arabic.

The alleged attacker had told police he and Schietekat were in a relationship so officers asked to look at her phone to find evidence of intimacy, which she denied.

Police then asked her to undergo a virginity test, accusing Schietekat of extramarital relations before recommending the case to the public prosecutor’s office to bring charges against her.

Her attacker was acquitted on charges of assault because ‘there were no cameras pointing directly at the door of the apartment, so there was no way to verify that the assault happened’, Schietekat said.

She was then warned by lawyers that one of the only ways to avoid a conviction would be to marry her alleged attacker.

Schietekat chose to flee the country instead, leaving behind what she later described as her ‘dream job’ and was helped out of Doha by the World Cup committee.

‘I had never breathed with more relief than when my passport was stamped,’ she wrote. ‘In Mexico the adrenaline stopped and a slower process began, although just as complex and painful.’

She has since claimed that Qatar, which will be the first Arab state to host the FIFA World Cup in November 2022, cares more about protecting the attacker than the rape victim.

She also revealed she was previously raped when she was 17 but that she did not speak out about the ordeal at the time, as she explained why she chose to go public with the allegation.

The 28-year-old accused the ‘cynical’ international community of continuing to back Gulf states embroiled in allegations of ‘flagrant human rights abuses’.

‘Without a firm stance on the part of the international community, draconian, retrograde and even absurd laws will find a little hole to continue justifying themselves, in the shadow of major sporting or cultural events,’ she wrote.

She also attacked the Mexican foreign ministry for failing to protect its 600 citizens living in Qatar, especially against gender-based violence.

Since publishing her account, Schietekat has met with Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard who announced the state would provide her with legal representation ‘ensuring that all her rights as a Mexican citizen are respected.’

Qatar has been embroiled in scandals as the World Cup approaches, with reports of thousands of migrant workers dying in the country since it was awarded the tournament in 2010.

Colombia decriminalizes abortion in first 24 weeks

Colombia’s constitutional court has decriminalized abortions if it happens within the first 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Under the new rule, no woman will be prosecuted for having an abortion within if it’s less than 24 weeks.

Since 2006, abortions are only allowed in Colombia in cases of rape, when the woman’s life is at risk, or if the pregnancy is not viable.

The ruling on Monday, February 21 which comes as good news for Colombia, a country with deeply conservative values and a Catholic majority, comes after other Latin America countries Mexico and Argentina decriminalized abortion.

The ruling came about as a result of a lawsuit filed by the umbrella group Causa Justa (Just Cause), a group whose aim is to have abortion removed from the penal code.

Causa Justa argued that because abortions were defined as a crime outside of the three cases allowed under the 2006 ruling, doctors who performed abortions and their patients were stigmatised.

The group said that 90% of abortions in Colombia are carried out clandestinely, putting the health and life of women at risk.

Following its 5-4 court ruling, the court told  Congress and the government to come up with legislation which will protect the rights of pregnant women, including providing family planning services, eliminating obstacles to abortion care and helping with adoptions.

Pro-choice groups, who welcomed the ruling called it “a historic achievement”.

Life goes on in Ukraine, As their football league commences soon

Ukrainian football officials have confirmed that they will go ahead with plans to restart the domestic league on Friday despite the threat of invasion from Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday recognised two eastern Ukrainian regions – around Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states after months of ongoing tensions,, during which time up to 150,000 Russian troops amassed around the borders of Ukraine.

Putin then announced that ‘peacekeeping troops’ would be entering the two regions as well, with the threat that it could escalate further into a full-blown invasion.

The league is set to return at the end of the week following a two month winter break and the 16 teams involved want to try and keep the season going in an attempt maintain some form of normality in the country.

“The main message to the Ukrainian people now is to carry on,” Ukrainian football expert and journalist Andrew Todos told the Daily Mail.

“People are worried, but football helps to give some respite.”

As it stands, there are no plans in place for the league to be suspended after Andriy Pavelko, president of the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF), released a statement that read: “Stability is very important right now and we want to tell the world that life goes on and the way we can help with that is the resumption of our league.

“We have to hope the difficult days will go away and there will be peace and prosperity for our country. Obviously, if the situation changes, we will have to assess the position.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Premier League chief Yevhen Dykyy added: “We continue to closely monitor the situation, but at the moment the season resumes with a match between Mynai and Zorya Luhansk on Friday.”

UEFA have also revealed that they are considering changing the location of the Champions League final – which was due to be hosted in the Russian city of St. Petersburg in May.

“They are very much into each other and have been spending a tremendous amount of time together”

Elon Musk?s new mystery woman revealed to be Natasha Bassett

And while Bassett’s rumoured relationship has been heavily reported, this isn’t her first time in the spotlight, as she’s quite a successful actress.

She’s been working in the industry for more than a decade, having previously appeared as Britney Spears in a 2017 Lifetime biopic about the singer’s life. Bassett is also set to star as Presley’s first girlfriend, Dixie Locke, in the upcoming biopic, entitled Elvis.

Prisonner ‘died of happiness’ after death sentence was overturned

An Iranian man is said to have died of happiness after being told that his death sentence was being commuted.

The 55-year-old from southern Iran, named in local reports as Akbar, was sentenced to death 18 years ago after being convicted of murder.

He was recently forgiven by his victim’s family which meant he would no longer face the death penalty.

Officials in the state’s dispute resolution board are reported to have helped to persuade the family to make the decision.

But after learning that the victim’s family had pardoned him and that he no longer faced execution, Akbar suffered a heart attack as a result of being “overjoyed” and died, according to a report in the state-run newspaper Hamshahri.

It’s not unusual in Iran for death penalties to be commuted after the payment of Diyyeh – a privately-arranged settlement between the families of victim and perpetrator.

Iranian legal sources put a typical Diyyeh payment at 4,800,000,000 Rials – or about £83,000.

In many cases, judges try to persuade the family to forgive the murderer, even at times pressuring them to do so. Often, a murder execution is delayed for several years after the murder was committed in order to persuade the family to exercise forgiveness and allow time for the murderer to pay Diyyeh.

“I endorse his competence and capacity of Anyim to serve Nigeria at the highest level” – Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan or my boss, as Anyim fondly calls him, didn’t mince words when talking about Anyim’s impact during his time as the Secretary to the Government of the federation at his 61st-anniversary celebration. According to him, Anyim was instrumental to the progress he made as President and referred to him as the “engine room of his administration”. He further stated that he has no iota of doubt that Anyim would make the ideal president of the country.

In what was a much-expected turn-up of the high and mighty of the society, the 61st-anniversary celebration of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and ex-senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim was a success and many top dignitaries like President Buhari’s representative, in the person of Boss Mustapha, former President and Vice President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Namadi Sambo respectively, the governor of river state, Nyesom Wike, amongst others used the opportunity to laud Anyim for his dedication to the progress of the nation.

While speaking, the former president could not help but express his confidence in the competence and capacity of Anyim to serve Nigeria at the highest level. While it would be easy to assume that Aynim Pius Anyim can deliver a greater Nigeria, it is much better when the ex-president makes it a point of call to mention.

US tells the United Nations that the Russian Govt. has lists of Ukrainians ‘to be killed following a military occupation

The U.S. has “credible information” indicating that Russia is creating lists of specific Ukrainians “to be killed or sent to camps following a military occupation,” a top diplomat told the United Nations in a letter obtained by the Washington Post on Monday.

The letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet warns that those who could be targeted include Russian and Belarusian dissidents in exile in Ukraine, journalists, anti-corruption activists, and religious and ethnic minorities. While the warning to the U.N. does not provide details about the information obtained by the U.S., it claims “human rights violations and abuses in the aftermath of a further invasion are being planned.”

The Washington Post reported on the letter on Sunday.

“We are deeply concerned about Russia’s continuing human rights abuses in the parts of Ukraine it already occupies and have every reason to believe those concerns will multiply following a new military offensive,” wrote Ambassador Bathsheba Nell Crocker, the U.S. representative to the U.N. and other international organizations in Geneva.

The letter continued: “These acts, which in past Russian operations have included targeted killings, kidnappings/forced disappearances, unjust detentions, and the use of torture, would likely target those who oppose Russian actions.”

Crocker said the U.S. also has information that Russian forces “will likely use lethal measures to disperse peaceful protests or otherwise counter peaceful exercises of perceived resistance from civilian populations.”

The U.N. Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights said it received the letter Monday morning and is reviewing it.

“Over the past few days, the situation on the ground has begun to deteriorate, with increasing human rights risks,” the office said. “There has been a significant increase in exchanges of fire across the contact line from 17 February, including the use of heavy weapons. We call on all parties to immediately and fully respect the ceasefire. It is critical that all governments contribute to the de-escalation of tensions by engaging in diplomacy and good-faith dialogue.”

Asked Sunday about the list of Ukrainians that could be targeted by Russia and whether she is concerned for her safety, Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova told “Face the Nation” that “we all are concerned about Ukraine and there are so many Ukrainians that are ready to resist and fight.”

“Whatever crimes they’re willing to commit in order to kill some of us, it will not stop others and it will not help their cause,” she said.

Russia has massed roughly 150,000 troops around Ukraine, escalating concerns from the U.S. and western allies that an invasion is imminent.

President Biden on Friday told reporters he is “convinced” Russian President Vladimir Putin made the decision to invade, with an attack expected in the “coming days.”

A U.S. official told CBS News that intelligence indicated Russian commanders have received orders to proceed with an invasion and were making specific plans for how they would maneuver in their sectors of the battlefield. The orders, however, don’t mean an invasion of Ukraine is a certainty, as Putin could still change them if he changes his mind, according to the official.

Amid the heightened tensions and warnings that a Russian attack is likely, the Biden administration has continued to push Moscow to pursue a diplomatic option to prevent a war with Ukraine.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to meet with his counterpart, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, on Thursday in Europe if Russia doesn’t launch an invasion. Mr. Biden has also agreed “in principle” to meet with Putin if an invasion hasn’t happened, the White House said Sunday.

The Kremlin said Monday it’s “premature” to discuss concrete plans for a summit between the two leaders, but said a meeting is “possible if the heads of state consider it appropriate.”

Ajax’s star, Abdelhak Nouri’s family after the club accepted responsibility for his permanent brain damage

Dutch football club, Ajax has reached a financial settlement with the family of talented midfielder Abdelhak Nouri, who suffered severe and permanent brain damage after collapsing during a pre-season friendly in 2017.

Recall that the club previously acknowledged that Nouri did not get adequate medical attention after he collapsed and accepted responsibility.

On Monday February 21, the club announced that Nouri’s family will get the sum of £6.54million in damages and loss of potential future earnings.

The settlement brought to an end a case Nouri’s family began at the Dutch football association’s arbitration commission. Ajax has paid medical and other care costs for Nouri since 2017.

Nouri was just 20 when he collapsed against Werder Bremen in Austria. He made his debut for Ajax in September 2016 and played 15 games for the first team.

The club gave his name to a trophy that is awarded each year to the most talented player at the Ajax academy and the first team retired the No. 34 jersey Nouri wore.

‘It is good that an agreement has been reached so that we can conclude this,’ Ajax director Edwin van der Sar said.

‘We all realize that it does not end the suffering of Abdelhak and his loved ones. It remains a very sad situation, that is how we feel here at Ajax, too.’ He added

4th Covid-19 vaccine to be rolled out for millions of people in a few weeks

A fourth Covid vaccine will be rolled out in a few weeks, the UK Health Secretary has announced.

Sajid Javid said the booster will be given this spring to over-75s and care home residents. The vaccine will also be given to immunosuppressed people, topping up the protection for those most at risk from infection.

The NHS in England will offer people the vaccine from around six months after their last dose, with further details due to be released soon.

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to make similar announcements after the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) published advice recommending another booster.

The JCVI said that a further dose is likely needed because a vaccine’s effectiveness wanes over time and Covid surges are expected in winter.

Mr Javid said: “Thanks to our Covid-19 vaccination rollout, we are already the freest country in Europe.

“It has saved countless lives, reduced pressure on the NHS and is allowing us to learn to live with the virus.

“Today I have accepted the advice from the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) to offer, from spring, an additional Covid-19 booster jab to people aged 75 years and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and people aged 12 years and over who are immunosuppressed.

“All four parts of the UK intend to follow the JCVI’s advice. We know immunity to Covid-19 begins to wane over time.

“That’s why we’re offering a spring booster to those people at higher risk of serious Covid-19 to make sure they maintain a high level of protection. It’s important that everyone gets their top-up jabs as soon as they’re eligible.

“The JCVI will keep under review whether the booster programme should be extended to further at-risk groups.”

The vaccines to be rolled out will be the Moderna or Pfizer jabs for adults aged 18 and over. For anyone eligible aged 12 to 18, a smaller dose of Pfizer is being offered,

Nigerian Govt. directs filmmakers to stop film with money ritual contents

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has disclosed that filmmakers in the country have been asked to avoid making money ritual contents.

Speaking during a media visit to Daily Trust office in Abuja on Monday February 21, the Minister said the Federal Government’s decision to sanitise social media is hinged on confessions of some money ritual suspects.

Lai Mohammed said;

“Many have also blamed Nollywood for featuring money rituals in some of its movies, saying this has negatively influenced the vulnerable youth. To mitigate this, I have directed the National Film and Video Censors Board, the body set up to regulate the film and video industry in Nigeria, to take this issue into consideration while performing its role of censoring and classifying films and videos.

“I have also directed NFVCB to engage with stakeholders in the film industry in order to express the concerns of the government and Nigerians on the need to eschew money ritual content in their movies.”

Some of the allegations Kebe made in her videos claim that Cardi B f***ed herself with beer bottles on f***ing stripper stages,” while others claimed she had contracted herpes and was a prostitute, according to Billboard.

The case finally went to trial on January 10, 2022, and lasted two weeks.

During the trial, Cardi said on the stand that she felt “suicidal” from the videos and that  “only an evil person could do that s***.”

Jurors found Kebe liable for defamation as well as invasion of privacy through portrayal in a false light.

Cardi was then awarded $1.25million in damages.

On Tuesday, January 25, Cardi was awarded an additional $2.8million by the jury according to a filed verdict.

Now, Tasha has made it clear that she doesn’t have over $3 million to pay Cardi.

While talking with Kendall Kyndall and Kendra G of Social Society, Tasha K was asked about paying Cardi B the $3.8 million she was ordered to pay after losing to the defamation lawsuit.

Kendra G asked: “Do you even have that amount of money to pay in this lawsuit? Is Tasha K worth that amount of money to pay that.”

The mother of two replied, “I ain’t got it.”

As the hosts laugh, she added: “Listen I ain’t got it. I ain’t got it. Don’t ask me for no money. I ain’t got it.”

Over 115,400 health workers died of COVID-19 in 18 months – UN says

No fewer than 115,500 health workers died from COVID-19 in 18 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, linked to a “systemic lack of safeguards”, according to UN agencies.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) on Monday warned that health teams worldwide needed much safer working conditions to combat the “dangerous neglect” they have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a joint call for action from the UN health and labour agencies, they insisted that the coronavirus crisis had contributed to “an additional heavy toll” on health workers.

“Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the health sector was among the most hazardous sectors to work in,” said WHO’s Maria Neira, Director, Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health.

“Only a few healthcare facilities had programmes in place for managing health and safety at work,” Neira said.

“Health workers suffered from infections, musculoskeletal disorders and injuries, workplace violence and harassment, burnout, and allergies from the poor working environment.”

To address this, WHO and ILO have released new country guidelines for health centres at national and local levels.

“Such programmes should cover all occupational hazards – infectious, ergonomic, physical, chemical, and psycho-social,” the agencies noted.

They added that States that have either developed or are actively implementing occupational health and safety programmes in health settings had seen reductions in work-related injuries and absences due to sickness and improvements in the work environment, productivity, and retention of health workers.

“Like all other workers, should enjoy their right to decent work, safe and healthy working environments and social protection for health care, sickness absence and occupational diseases and injuries,” insisted ILO’s Alette van Leur, Director, ILO Sectoral Policies Department.

The development comes as the agencies indicated that more than one in three health facilities lack hygiene stations at the point of care, while fewer than one in six countries had a national policy in place for healthy and safe working environments within the health sector.

“Sickness absence and exhaustion exacerbated pre-existing shortages of health workers and undermined the capacities of health systems to respond to the increased demand for care and prevention during the crisis,” James Campbell, Director, WHO Health Workforce Department said.

“Pray for us” – Highway armed robbers tell passengers after robbing them

Five armed robbers wearing masks attacked a bus carrying over 40 passengers.

The VIP bus, with registration number GT 5795-16, was transporting passengers from Takoradi in the Western Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, when they were attacked by armed robbers.

Ekua, a passenger on the bus, said the bus left the Abenbebon Station at Apremdo, Takoradi at around 10:30 pm on Sunday, Feb. 20.

Hours later, they were attacked.

Pray for us ? Robbers tell passengers after robbing them

“At around 3:30 am on Monday, February 21, 2022, about five armed robbers with rifles and other weapons attacked us and made away with our monies and other belongings. All of them were wearing masks,” the passenger narrated.

She added that the armed robbers, after the robbery, asked them to remember them in prayers.

She said: “After the robbery, they asked us to pray for them because it was not their will to stop vehicles on the highway and rob passengers of their belongings but the system has compelled them to do so.”

Another young man said the armed robbers took away his bag containing an amount of GH¢8,500.

“I’m a driver and I was going to buy an engine for my vehicle in Kumasi. My Mobile Money phone was last week stolen by another set of armed robbers at Kintampo so I decided to carry the money in my bag but unfortunately, I have been robbed again,” he told 3news.

The driver of the vehicle, Agya Owusu, disclosed that there was nothing he could have done to save the situation.

He said: “When I got to Fomena, I saw a driver alerting me with his light that there was danger on the road. I became confused and stopped the vehicle for about five minutes. I realised no vehicle was coming again so I decided to continue my journey.

“When I moved forward for some minutes, I saw a Sprinter bus on the road with passengers lying on the ground. This is where I realised armed robbers were on the road. There was nothing I could do again because they were very close. They attacked us and took all our monies. They took my GH¢3,400.”

How over 30,000 drug traffickers, money launderers, dictators globally stash billions in Credit Suisse – New report reveals

Recent leaks have revealed how over 30,000 drug traffickers, money launderers, dictators, corrupt politicians, et al, globally stash billions of loots in Credit Suisse, one of the world’s biggest private banks.

According to a report, the massive leak exposed the hidden wealth of clients involved in torture, drug trafficking, money laundering, corruption and other serious crimes.

Details of accounts linked to 30,000 Credit Suisse clients all over the world are contained in the leak, which unmasked the beneficiaries of more than 100 billion Swiss francs (£80 billion) held in one of Switzerland’s best-known financial institutions.

The leak points to widespread failures of due diligence by Credit Suisse, despite repeated pledges over decades to weed out dubious clients and illicit funds. The Guardian is part of a consortium of media outlets given exclusive access to the data.

We can reveal how Credit Suisse repeatedly either opened or maintained bank accounts for a panoramic array of high-risk clients across the world.

They include a human trafficker in the Philippines, a Hong Kong stock exchange boss jailed for bribery, a billionaire who ordered the murder of his Lebanese pop star girlfriend and executives who looted Venezuela’s state oil company, as well as corrupt politicians from Egypt to Ukraine.

One Vatican-owned account in the data was used to spend €350 million (£290 million) in an allegedly fraudulent investment in London property that is at the centre of an ongoing criminal trial of several defendants, including a cardinal.

The huge trove of banking data was leaked by an anonymous whistleblower to the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.

“I believe that Swiss banking secrecy laws are immoral,” the whistleblower source said in a statement. “The pretext of protecting financial privacy is merely a fig leaf covering the shameful role of Swiss banks as collaborators of tax evaders.”

Credit Suisse said that Switzerland’s strict banking secrecy laws prevented it from commenting on claims relating to individual clients.

“Credit Suisse strongly rejects the allegations and inferences about the bank’s purported business practices,” the bank said in a statement, arguing that the matters uncovered by reporters are based on “selective information taken out of context, resulting in tendentious interpretations of the bank’s business conduct.”

The bank also said the allegations were largely historical, in some instances dating back to a time when “laws, practices and expectations of financial institutions were very different from where they are now”.

While some accounts in the data were open as far back as the 1940s, more than two-thirds were opened since 2000. Many of those were still open well into the last decade, and a portion remain open today.

The timing of the leak could hardly be worse for Credit Suisse, which has recently been beset by major scandals. Last month, it lost its chairman, António Horta-Osório, after he twice broke Covid-19 regulations.

That capped an unprecedented year of controversies in which the bank became embroiled in the collapse of the supply chain finance firm Greensill Capital and the US hedge fund Archegos Capital, and was fined £350 million over its role in a loan scandal in Mozambique.

This month, Credit Suisse became the first major Swiss bank in the country’s history to face criminal charges – which it denies – relating to allegation it helped launder money from the cocaine trade on behalf of the Bulgarian mafia.

However, the repercussions of the leak could be much broader than one bank, threatening a crisis for Switzerland, which retains one of the world’s most secretive banking laws. Swiss financial institutions manage about 7.9 trillion CHF (£6.3 trillion) in assets, nearly half of which belongs to foreign clients.

The Suisse secrets project sheds a rare light on one of the world’s largest financial centres, which has grown used to operating in the shadows. It identifies the convicts and money launderers who were able to open bank accounts, or keep them open for years after their crimes emerged.

And it reveals how Switzerland’s famed banking secrecy laws helped facilitate the looting of countries in the developing world.

Farmer charged with murder for cutting his friend’s leg off with a circular saw during ‘quack surgery’

A man has been charged with murder after allegedly sawing another man’s leg off in north-eastern Australia.

A 66-year-old Innisfail man died in the early hours of Saturday morning on Fitzgerald Esplanade at Innisfail after he was discovered by passers-by.

Police believe the man died after his leg was amputated with a circular saw after he paid a fruitpicker friend, John Yalu, 36, thousands of dollars to perform the amateur surgery.

The two men were known to each other, police said.

Police said the men drove to the park together then 20 minutes later, the 36-year-old man allegedly cut the other’s leg off under the knee with a circular saw.

The suspect then assisted the injured man back to the car before leaving the area on foot.

A passer-by found the injured man and called the emergency services, but the 66-year-old died shortly afterwards.

Detective Inspector Gary Hunter of Cairns police said it was believed the amputation occurred after a prior arrangement between the two men.

Police believe the deceased man paid the 36-year-old $5,000 to perform the amputation.

‘Police will allege that at 3.48am (Saturday), the deceased person and another male person arrived at a location on Fitzgerald Esplanade at Innisfail,’ Det Insp Hunter he said.

‘Both left the vehicle and went to a grassed area not far away and remained at that location for about 20 minutes.

‘A male person has then commenced to saw the deceased person’s leg off using a circular saw.

‘A short time later, the male person in this matter has assisted the deceased person, who is 66 years of age, return to the vehicle and a short time later has left the area on foot.

‘Police will allege that these two people were known to each other.’

The battery-powered saw used in the incident is believed to belong to the deceased man.

Yalu was found at a home in Innisfail at about noon on Sunday and charged with one count of murder.

The police investigation into the relationship between the two men is continuing, with an appeal for any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area.

Mr. Yalu’s legal representative made no bail application on Monday and the next hearing has been set for June 6.

US mum had s3x with 9 high school students in exchange for vape pens

Residents of a Tennessee town are expressing outrage after a woman was indicted for having sex with at least nine local high school students in exchange for vape pens.

Melissa Blair, 38, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 15, and charged with 18 counts of statutory rape, four counts of human trafficking by patronizing prostitution, solicitation of a minor, and forfeiture of personal property, WTVC-TV reported.

According to McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy, there are at least nine confirmed male victims with incidents occurring from spring 2020 to late 2021 from students at McMinn Central High School in the town of Englewood.

Parents told WTVC that Blair reached out to her victims – all of whom were between the ages of 14 and 17 – and offered them items such as vape pens in exchange for sex.

Authorities said they believe there may be more victims.

Police began investigating Blair after the school district received an anonymous letter, officials said.

She is not a teacher or employee for the district but was involved in the school’s booster club. She had a child in the school system that has transferred.

Blair is banned from school property and school activities.

“We are devastated at this point,” a mother of one of the victims, who asked to remain anonymous, told the outlet. “I cannot in words describe what it feels like to be going through what we’re going through right now. It is every emotion that you can imagine. And none of them happy.”

She continued: “People focus mostly on the perpetrator. They don’t realize how it devastates a family. How the families are at home, and we don’t know what to do next. I have no idea how to go forward with this.”

Blair is currently out on a $100,000 bond she made Tuesday night. She is scheduled for an arraignment on Feb. 28.

Englewood resident Christie Teague told the station: “Parents need to talk to their kids to speak up because it’s not right. It’s just really, really not right.

“I would be livid if it happened to my kids.”

7 suspects arrested as NAFDAC impounds 120 tons of imported chemical-laden ‘Ponmo’

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has intercepted 120 tons of imported chemical-laden animal hides and skins popularly known as ‘Ponmo’.

In a statement released today February 20, the agency said the large quantities of dangerous ‘Ponmo’ were intercepted at six different locations in Lagos. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said that seven suspects allegedly involved in the act are currently under investigation.

She added that the samples of the products have been sent to the laboratory for testing to ascertain the products’ quality and unwholesomeness.

‘’The street value of the product currently intercepted is estimated to be around N25.330m only.  NAFDAC wishes to advise consumers and retailers of ‘Ponmo’ not to patronize importers of hides and skins for consumable animal skins’’she said

She said that the hides are pre-treated with industrial chemicals which are not of food-grade and are toxic and injurious to human health.

She added that health hazards inherent in the consumption of such animal hides include risk of liver, kidney and heart damage, increased risk of aplastic anaemia, central nervous system toxicity, and cancer, amongst several others.

“The general public is hereby encouraged to be very vigilant and exercise discretion when purchasing animal hides ‘ponmo and indeed other food items.

“NAFDAC is fully alive to her responsibilities of assuring the safety, wholesomeness, and quality of processed foods offered for sale to the public’’ she said

The NAFDAC DG said the agency’s investigation and enforcement officials carried out intelligence gathering around certain locations where the alleged products were being warehoused and sold.

“This was in response to several complaints received from the public pertaining to alleged sale and distribution of imported hides and skins meant for use in leather industries and which had already been processed with industrial chemicals.

These hides and skins are then sold to unsuspecting public as consumable animal skin products, otherwise called ‘Ponmo.’

Monitoring was also extended to some buyers who patronize the sellers and custodians of the warehoused.”

The NAFDAC boss added that preliminary investigation revealed that some of the hides and skins were imported illegally and sometimes diverted to some merchants of death who re-process the hides and skins and further sell them as consumable ‘Ponmo’ to the public.

Teenage thief nailed to a tree for allegedly stealing radio, his family denies that he committed the act

Police has rescued a 19-year-old man who was nailed to a tree on suspicion of stealing a radio in Kenya.

Collins Sambaya, from Chamasili village in Sabatia sub-county was injured by one Elvis Irime, who nailed both his palms to a tree on Friday, February 18.

North Izava location Chief Evans Endesha reported the matter to the police via a phone call.  Upon visiting the scene, police found the young man in great pain.

“Upon seeing the police approaching the scene, the assailant suspect ran away and is still at large,” the police report reads in part.

Sambaya was rescued and rushed to Mbale County Referral Hospital where he is in stable condition.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, DCI, says police has launched manhunt for the suspect responsible for the inhuman act.

“In an incident that brought Sabatia’s, Izava village to a standstill, 19-year-old Collins Sambaya, was found secured on a tree using two roofing nails, that had been driven through each palm of his hands,” the statement read.

“The distraught villagers who couldn’t come to terms with what had befallen one of their own, watched in disbelief from a distance as officers rescued him and rushed him to hospital.

“Meanwhile, a manhunt for the suspects responsible for the inhuman act has been launched, with the area security team employing every available resource to apprehend the suspects.”

The young man who was nailed to a tree in Kenya on Friday, February 18, for allegedly stealing a radio, is presently recovering at a local hospital.

Collins Sambaya,19, was rushed to Itando Mission of Hope and Health Care centre after residents were successfully able to free him from his predicament.

According to the victim’s grandfather, Henry, his family is still in shock following the incident.

While likening Sambaya’s ordeal to that of Jesus Christ, Henry maintained that his grandson is innocent and was wrongly accused.

He confirmed that his grandson was nailed to the tree by one Eric Irime and his younger brother who hail from the area.

“The incident occurred at around 2 pm but I only got wind of the situation at around 5pm. The suspects came to our home and tricked my grandson into following them into their household where they committed the act,” Henry told Citizen Digital.

“My grandson is innocent. A few days ago, the suspects took my grandson to a nearby police station where they reported him for allegedly stealing the said radio. Officers however freed him after establishing that there was no evidence to support the pair’s allegations.”

Sambaya’s family now wants police to act swiftly and bring the two suspects to book.

“Honestly speaking if the suspects were apprehended yesterday things would have been very different right now,” Henry said.

“If they do get caught, we would like the matter to be handled by police. I have heard rumours that they pair might have been spotted nearby but I am not sure. Local youths are however hot on their trails” he added.

Kenyan GrandDad returns home empty-handed after 42 years whilst seeking greener pastures

A 94-year-old Kenyan man has been reunited with his family in Majengo village, Mwatate, Taita-Taveta County after being away for 42 years.

Hiltan Kalugho says he left home for Tanzania in 1980 to look for fortune in the neighboring country, leaving behind his wife and seven children.

“I left home in search of greener pastures because I wanted a good future for my children. Unfortunately, I was unable to come back home because I did not get the money I expected to get to feed my family,” he told Sunday Nation.

According to the senior citizen, life at the border town of Mororoni where he first worked as a gemstone miner did not, however, turn out as he had envisioned, forcing him to try his luck at livestock herding.

“We did not get any breakthrough. What we used to get was only enough to sustain us,” said Kalugho.

By this time, Kalugho says, he had refused to remarry and was yearning to return home. It took a Kenyan pastor who had visited the area to share Kalugho’s story on social media and reunite him with his family.

Kalugho’s son, Mnjala Mwaluma, said after unfruitful searches for their father over the years, he was called by the pastor to inform him that he had been found in Tanzania.

“Recently I received a call from a pastor telling me my father had been traced in Tanzania. He came with him to Mombasa where we went to meet him,” said Mwaluma.

Kalugho returned home last week to find that his wife had died in 2007, as did his two other sons.

“I feel so bad that some of my family members are not here to witness the reunion. I had longed to see my wife and all my children.” he said.

There was a rift in Manchester United dressing room between Cristiano, Pogba and Fernandes

Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick has reportedly held talks with some of the big stars in the squad amid reports of a rift within the United dressing room

Rangnick is understood to have held talks with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes while also meeting with Marcus Rashford last week.

Last week both Harry Maguire and Rashford took to Twitter to refute reports of any unrest at United specifically at the charge that there is an English camp that baulks at Ronaldo’s attempted dominance of the dressing room.

This is coming after Rangnick was forced to dismiss media speculation about a change to the team’s captain as “nonsense,” insisting that Harry Maguire will remain the club’s captain until the end of the season.

The report had claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo might be in line to replace Harry Maguire as skipper, to reduce pressure on the Englishman.

Speaking to journalists ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match with Leeds United, the Reds’ interim manager confirmed there would be no change in captaincy.

“Well, to start with, I must say that this is absolutely nonsense,” began Ralf.

“I have never spoken with any player about a possible change of captaincy and Harry is fully aware of that and so is Cristiano, and all the other players.

“So this has never been an issue for me, it is me who decides the captain and therefore there is no reason to speak about that with any other person.

“Harry is our captain and will stay our captain until the end of the season and there is nothing else to add on to that.”

The 63-year-old went to explain that there had never been an issue, and that the atmosphere in the dressing room had improved during recent weeks, following the January transfer window.

“Well, I’m not frustrated at all because I know that it’s not the truth,” claimed Rangnick. “I told you already about Harry being captain, this is not an issue at all and it has never been an issue for us and for myself as the manager.

“All the other things, to be honest, I don’t listen to that noise that much because my full focus is on preparing the next training and for the next game. Obviously, I have heard about what is written, I can only tell you from my personal experience in the last 11-12 weeks, yes, there were players unhappy until the closure of the window because, as I always said, the squad was too big.

“We had too many players who just realised that they wouldn’t get game time. I think this has improved, for sure, and, from what I can tell you, the atmosphere in the locker room is better than it used to be a couple of weeks ago, for that reasons we just spoke about and, well, all the other things.”

2 students from UNIZIK found dead in a private hostel

Two students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have been found dead in a room at a private hostel.

It was gathered that bodies of the students were discovered on Sunday, February 20, after Room One of the hostel, located at the William’s Lodge, was forced open following a report to the police by parents of the deceased.

According to a source, who spoke to Punch , the two students, a male, and a female, might have died some days ago, due to the level of decay on their corpses.

The parents of the dead female, identified as Adaeze, had been calling her phone line for some days without any response.

The source said when several calls were not responded to, the parents, in the process, became bothered and reported to the Police.

The parents in company with the security operatives stormed the hostel to check on her, but they met her door tightly locked.

On forcing the door open, they found the two students lying dead in the room.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident said the student died from carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes but the result of an autopsy will confirm the cause of death.

“There was no stench. The girl was not answering calls which got parents worried. They reported to the Police who forced the door open. No mark of violence on the bodies,” he stated.

“They died apparently from carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes. The generator was found in a closed place facing the room. The cause of death will be ascertained after autopsy.”

Nigerian immigrant begins manufacturing first ‘Black-owned self-driving pods’

A Black-owned tech firm based in Miami, Florida, has begun manufacturing self-driving vehicles called JéGO Pods. The firm will start releasing the pods in late 2022 and will be used to mobilize healthcare services.

JéGO Technologies Inc is founded by Frederick Akphoghene, a Nigerian immigrant, who started his career in tech as early as 16. Since he started his journey, he has built and partnered with hundreds of companies and startups including Abovav Technologies and Oddio Tribe Holdings.

According to Akphoghene, the purpose of his company is to use its mobile platform to connect users with businesses that provide on-demand services like Flu Testing, COVID testing, IV therapy and other services which can be brought directly to customers using driverless JéGO pods.

“JéGO is here to give entrepreneurs the space to compete and to give service providers the mobility to serve without the burden of large fixed costs like rent…This will lead to more money flowing into our communities as opposed to it flowing outwards to large corporations – because we are just as tired of that normalcy as you are,” said Akpoghene, according to Black News.

According to Black News, the name ’JéGO’ “is inspired by the African goddess of commerce, which is a wink to Akpoghene’s mission to use technology to uplift the fastest group of entrepreneurs in the world: Black women and small business owners.”

Akphoghene has over 15 years of experience in tech development and software engineering and has been able to design the patent-pending flagship prototype himself. His autonomous pods have already been approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and have garnered a number of partnerships including one with a Miami-based Urgent Care Clinic.

In five years, Akphoghene and his team plan to complete their pilots in multiple cities, including Miami, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, Luxembourg, and have a fleet of over 100 vehicles operating in various routes throughout the U.S., Europe, and South Africa, they announced in November 2021.

“It’s clear now more than ever that people need and continue to need services on the go – starting with COVID testing. Join us in changing the world by building a new commerce infrastructure powered by JéGO Pods. We’re here to ensure the present and future growth of businesses and access to crucial care services throughout the pandemic and beyond,” said Akpoghene.

Akpoghene has also revealed another exciting offer — the JéGO Pods Non-Fungible Token (NFT) — which will also be made available this month through OpenSea, which is the largest platform for NFTs.

She was discharged from the hospital on the second day after delivery and had only been home for a day when she came to see me at the Sexology Clinic. Her reason for the consultation was the unbearable pain in her private parts. She was also still bleeding. Her husband brought her to the clinic but opted to stay out of the consultation room which I found unusual.

“He is welcome to be with you in the room unless you feel uncomfortable with his presence,” I advised.

“No, let him not be near here, I hate him,” Annete replied weeping. The pain was unbearable. I could understand her. Some women naturally get closer to their men during pregnancy, and after delivery. Some, on the other hand, find the man repulsive. I explained this to Annete.

“No, it is not about that,” she said, “I have been quite close to him until last night when he behaved like a beast!”

I nodded, encouraging her to say more. I needed information to help me arrive at a diagnosis. She however went quiet and fixed her gaze on the horizon, her eyes welling with tears. I went ahead and examined her and to my dismay, her episiotomy was badly torn and bleeding. An episiotomy is a cut that is normally made around the vaginal area during vaginal delivery to facilitate the passage of the baby. Once the delivery is completed, the cut is stitched back nicely to stop bleeding and facilitate healing. In Annete’s case, the stitches had fallen apart leaving a gaping wound.

“So what happened?” I asked in shock.

“Well, John decided that we should have sex, that he had missed me and that he could not wait any longer,” she explained, “I feared it would be dangerous but he insisted and forced himself in!”

The consequences were catastrophic.

“I felt a sharp unbearable pain, I screamed but he thought I was having fun. I have never suffered that much in my life!”

Like Annete and John, many couples do not know when and how to resume sex after delivery. Some start too early, others stay for months on end, fearing that problems can happen if they try.

In some cultures, the resumption of sex after a baby is an important ceremony. It may be linked to beliefs around cleansing or myths about facilitating quick healing for the woman. In one culture, a man cannot have sex with other women without first having sex with his wife who has delivered. This, they say, can cause the death of the baby if not strictly adhered to.

Culture aside, couples go through a difficult time emotionally during delivery. The arrival of the newborn baby can draw them closer, increasing their intimacy. The desire to try sex early, especially for the man, can therefore be quite strong.

But when is the right time to resume sex after delivery? Medically it is known that complete healing of the reproductive system occurs within about six weeks after vaginal and even cesarean delivery. Some women may feel better earlier while others may need a little longer to get back to normal. Overall, however, six weeks is a good average to work with.

It also is important to understand that sex should only resume when the woman is comfortable with it. That may mean that post-delivery bleeding is over and the wounds caused by delivery have also sufficiently healed and that emotionally the woman is open to indulging.

It is known that even after complete healing, some women just do not know how to resume sex again. They fear that it might be painful or uncomfortable and so may evade it. At the same time, the arrival of the baby brings in new demands, and nights can be stressful.

For some men, the bodily changes in the woman during pregnancy and immediately after delivery may be stimulating. For others, the changes cause the opposite effect. Whatever the case, an understanding of what the woman is going through during this time is important so that catastrophes like Annete’s are avoided.

I had to take Annete to the theatre and stitch the torn episiotomy. She had to be on medication for some time to reduce pain and prevent infection.

BREAKING: V. Putin, Russian President supervises test of its nuclear readiness

President Vladimir Putin will oversee exercises by Russia’s nuclear forces on Saturday involving the launch of ballistic and cruise missiles, the defence ministry said, in its latest show of strength at a time of acute tension with the West over Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the exercises were part of a regular training process and denied they signalled an escalation of the standoff. He said Putin’s role was essential, and the president was likely to take part from a “situation centre”.

The drills follow a huge series of manoeuvres by Russia’s armed forces in the past four months that have included a build-up of troops – estimated by the West to number 150,000 or more – to the north, east and south of Ukraine.

Putin and other top officials frequently refer to the fact that Russia, together with the United States, is one of the world’s leading nuclear powers.

The defence ministry said the drills would test the readiness of military command and control, combat crews, warships and strategic missile carriers, as well as the reliability of strategic nuclear and non-nuclear weapons.

They would involve Russia’s Aerospace Forces, its Southern Military District, Strategic Missile Forces, Northern Fleet and the Black Sea Fleet.

Russia’s strategic rocket forces number 50,000 personnel out of its overall active military forces of 900,000, the International Institute for Strategic Studies said this week in its annual Military Balance report. It said their technology had been significantly upgraded over the past six years.

Nigerian Woman Arrested With 600 Grams Of Heroine In Italy

Yet to be identified Nigerian woman was arrested after being caught with 600 grams of heroine at Alghero Airport, Sardinia, Italy.

According to Sahara Reporter, the unnamed lady was said to be at the airport’s arrival lounge having just disembarked from a flight from Bologna, Northern Italy, when she was spotted by officers of the Guardia di Finanza, an Italian law enforcement agency.

According to L’unione Sarda, the woman, who had ingested various pellets of the drug, drew the attention of the officers to herself, showing signs of unease and nervousness while a routine security check was ongoing.

After a search was conducted, six wraps of heroine brown sugar, a substance produced largely in the mountainous regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan, were found on her.

She was later taken to a nearby hospital where further clinical tests revealed that she had swallowed an additional 41 wraps of the same substance.

The 47 wraps of heroine said to have been found on her was estimated to be about 600 grams by the officials.

She was immediately arrested and taken to the Bancali Prison after a court order from the province of Sassari, Sardinia.

Ex. Police woman, Kim Potter sentenced to two years for fatally shooting Daunte Wright after mistaking gun for Taser

Kim Potter, the former Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright after mistaking her gun for a Taser, has been sentenced to two years behind bars.

A jury in December convicted 49-year-old Potter on counts of first- and second-degree manslaughter in connection with the deadly incident, which unfolded during a traffic stop in the Minneapolis part of Brooklyn Center.

On Friday, February 18, she was imprisoned for two years, which is far less than the standard of about seven years for manslaughter, after a judge said leniency was warranted because the officer had meant to fire her Taser and not her gun.

She’ll be required to serve for 16 months and will be eligible for release any time after with good behavior.

The remaining time would be served on supervised release. Potter was credited for already serving 58 days.

“To those who disagree and feel a longer prison sentence is appropriate, as difficult as it may be, please try to empathize with Ms. Potter’s situation,” Judge Regina Chu said after handing down the sentence, adding that Wright’s life “mattered.”

Potter pulled over 20-year-old Wright the night of April 11, 2021 for expired plates, only to quickly realize he also had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out for his arrest.

Officers attempted to take him into custody, but he escaped their grasp and managed to get back into the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Footage from Potter’s bodycam then shows the officer yelling “Taser, Taser” before she shot Wright, who was Black, with her firearm.

Wright was able to drive only a short distance before crashing nearby. He was pronounced dead on the scene, while his girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat at the time, was injured.

Hennepin County Judge Regina Chu said a suspect without criminal history, like Potter, would typically get a sentence between just more than six years to about 8 1/2 years in prison, with the presumptive sentence being just over seven years.

“Of all the jobs in public service, police officers have the most difficult one. They must make snap decisions under tense evolving and ever-changing circumstances. They risk their lives every single day in public service. Officer Potter made a mistake that ended tragically,” Chu said, pausing to maintain her composure.

“She never intended to hurt anyone. Her conduct cries out for a sentence significantly below the guidelines”

The jury deliberated for about four days before finding Potter guilty on Dec. 23.

The Wright family (pictured below) earlier during the sentencing hearing had asked that Chu impose the maximum amount of prison time for Potter.

“I ask that Kim Potter be held accountable and that the maximum sentence be applied, which is incomparable to the life sentence we have been given, because of her negligence,” Arbuey Wright, Daunte’s father, said. “My son Daunte’s life was taken away, way too soon, and he’s never coming back, and it has affected my whole family.”

His mother, Katie Wright, in a fiery speech before the court said she would never forgive Potter.

“She referred to Daunte over and over again as the driver, as if killing him wasn’t enough to dehumanize him,” she said. “She never once said his name, and for that, I’ll never be able to forgive you. And I’ll never be able to forgive you for what you’ve stolen from us.”

Katie Wright said she wanted to see more from Potter during the trial.

“My heart wanted to see remorse, sadness in her eyes,” she said. “I wanted to see her mouth the words ‘I’m sorry,’ but she sat there with such entitlement and privilege. She never once looked at us.”

Later in the hearing, Potter apologized, saying she didn’t believe she “had a right” to look at the family.

“Katie, I understand a mother’s love, and I am sorry I broke your heart,” Potter said. “My heart is broken for all of you.”

Kanye West objects to Kim Kardashian’s divorce request

Kanye West has objected to Kim Kardashian getting an order divorcing him and restoring her single status.

He made his objections known to the judge in new legal documents.

West has filed an opposition to Kim’s request, according to documents obtained by E!

‘Kim’s motion should be denied without prejudice so that Kim can refile it with the mandatory corrections and requested conditions set forth in the proposed judgment. Alternatively, a hearing regarding these additional conditions should be set,’ a lawyer for the rapper stated in documents.

Kanye’s new legal documents are in response to Kim’s petition to get the judge to declare her single before all the custody and property issues are resolved.

The judge restoring Kim’s single status is scheduled to happen early next month, but now Kanye’s lawyer is objecting.

Kanye’s lawyer appears to be worried that Kim might remarry and move some of their assets to her separate accounts.

According to TMZ, Kanye seems agreeable to Kim becoming single, but only if safeguards are in place so the assets remain as marital property.

Kanye’s lawyer says he wants 3 conditions, all of which his lawyer claims Kim has rejected.

The conditions are:

1. If either of them dies, he wants to make sure any money that might be owing to either gets reimbursed.

2. Kanye wants to block Kim from transferring assets out of any trust they created.

3. He wants Kim to waive their marital privilege pending a final custody decision.

Kanye reportedly wants the third condition because he wants to ensure any communications between the two of them can be part of the court record. He also wants to make sure, if Kim remarries, she would waive any spousal privilege between her and her new husband. In other words, he wants to make sure any conversations between her and a new husband, as it relates to custody, would be fair game in court, according to TMZ.
