Weird Dad Rapes his 6-Year-Old, then blames his wife for it

A 46 year old Mr Jimoh Rafiu, has been nabbed by Lagos State police command for allegedly defiling his 6 year old daughter over the reason that his wife denied him sex

According to SaharaReporters, the suspect was arrested after his daughter informed members of the Advocates for Children and Vulnerable People’s Network that she had been repeatedly defiled by her father, suggesting the act of penetration.

The victim’s mother said her husband was in the habit of undressing the child and each time she returned from work, she asked why he did so and he would claim it was because of the hot weather. However, after showing signs of pain in her lower abdomen and vagina while taking a bath, the victim was queried by her mother who later confronted the perpetrator based on the accounts of the child.

Meanwhile, the father of the child confessed to committing the act and promised his wife to stop the act.

The suspect was arrested after the mother reported the case at the Idimu Police Station when the little girl could no longer bear the pain in her lower abdomen.

Jimoh confessed to committing the crime but blamed it on his wife’s refusal to sleep with him and on the influence of alcohol.

“The six-year-old survivor said her daddy lies on her and puts his hand and manhood in her vagina, and points to her lower abdomen. According to the mother, before she comes back from work, the perpetrator always undresses their daughter, explaining that it is because of heat. And since he is the father, she never gave it a thought.

“She said there was a day she was bathing the survivor, the survivor didn’t allow her to wash her vagina. She tried to force her but she was crying seriously. She took her inside and asked her who had been touching her vagina that was making her feel pain.

“The reply shocked the mother when the little girl said, “it’s my daddy”. She immediately confronted him but he didn’t deny it and he promised to stop the act.

“Two days later, the survivor began to cry because of pain in her lower abdomen. She was taken to a nurse that gave her some pain relief. There was no improvement. The mother reported to the Idimu police station and was referred to the Idera Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for support.

“On February 24, the perpetrator was arrested by OC Human Right Madam Wunmi and her team. Thanks to IPO Peju for her prompt response.

“The perpetrator was asked if he had been having sex with the daughter? He answered in the affirmative. The reason he gave was that his wife refused to have sex with him. He said he abuses his daughter after he drinks Ogogoro (local gin).”

She says she made attempts to speak to the management of the event center, but weeks later, she has not gotten any response.

Jade says: ‘Apparently it shut its doors – I didn’t hear a thing until I went on the hotel’s Facebook page.’

“The worst thing is that everything for the wedding was ready to go – the outfits and rings were bought, the cake was ordered, the decorations were purchased, and the invitations were sent.

‘Adam and I travelled all around the country to find the perfect venue and it had been booked for four years – we even took out a loan to cover the costs,’ says Jade.

‘When I found out, I was absolutely devastated. Who knows if we’ll ever get our money back – and I have no idea how to tell all our guests that there’s no wedding after all.’

‘I looked at my mum and we both cried because it felt so special and we had searched everywhere to find the perfect venue.’

To cover the wedding costs, buy a pricey house and also take care if new born daughter Lola they had to take out a £10,000 loan.

‘My first reaction was just to burst into tears,’ she says of her reaction when she heard the venue would be unavailable.

‘I was crying too much to even tell Adam what had happened – my dad had to ring him and tell him.’

UK Immigration suspends student, work, family visa applications for Nigerians

The United Kingdom Embassy in Nigeria has announced a momentary suspension of study, work, and family visa applications, as priority was now given on applications made under the Ukraine Family Scheme.

The UK embassy in a statement on Tuesday disclosed that Ukraine Family Scheme was launched in response to the humanitarian crisis arising from the military invasion of Ukraine.

The statement titled, ‘Temporary Suspension of Priority Visas for Student, Work, and Family Applications’, further noted that Nigerians, whose passports were ready for collection, would be contacted by the Visa Application Centre.

“UK Visas and Immigration is currently prioritizing applications made under the Ukraine Family Scheme, following its launch and in response to the humanitarian crisis arising from the invasion of Ukraine.

“As a result, UKVI has temporarily suspended priority and super-priority services for new study, work, and family applications. Customers with standard applications in study, work, and family routes may experience some delays in the processing of their application.

“We are still currently unable to offer PV for visitor applications in Nigeria. Standard visitor visa applications are currently taking an average of six weeks to process.

“Applicants will be contacted by the Visa Application Centre (VAC) when their passport is ready for collection. They should not attend the VAC until they have been invited to do so.

“Where there are extremely compassionate or compelling circumstances (for example, a medical emergency), UKVI may consider expediting specific cases. However, the bar for this is high and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If a request is exceptionally urgent, applicants can contact UK Visas and Immigration for help. Please note that this is a chargeable service for overseas customers.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Nigerian politicians moving in droves into APC Political Party for 2023 elections

As 2023 general election is gathering momentum, there are strong indications that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Stella Oduah, Lynda Ikpeazu and host of others are set to defect to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Though, sources familiar with political events in the state told Tori Media that the fear of being given Governor Umahi’s treatment is part of the reason why most of the political gladiators wants to return to PDP.

Meanwhile, governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, his deputy and other lawmakers at the state House of Assembly who defected from Peoples Democratic Party to All Progressives Congress last week were sacked by the court under the Lordship of Justice Inyang Ekwo in a landmark judgement.

#Russian model who called President Putin a ‘psychopath’ found dead in suitcase

The corpse of a Russian model has been found stashed in a suitcase more than a year after she went missing.

Gretta Vedler, 23, was killed one month after she posted on social media calling President Vladimir Putin a “psychopath” and forecasting his drive to “enhance the integrity of Russia” would end in tears.

Her “jealous” ex-boyfriend Dmitry Korovin, 23, has confessed more than a year later to strangling her to death after a row over money in Moscow.

Dmitry told interrogators that he slept in a hotel room for three nights with her corpse which he put in a newly-bought suitcase. Then he drove her body 300 miles to the Lipetsk region and left it in the boot of a car for more than a year.

Russian model who branded President Putin a ?psychopath? found dead in suitcase a year after going missing as lover ?confesses? to her death

He kept posting pictures and messages on the model’s social media, to make friends believe she was still alive, he told detectives.

A male friend called Evgeniy Foster, a blogger in Kharkiv, the Ukrainian city blitzed by Russian forces, became suspicious and found a friend in Moscow to file a missing person case, triggering a search which eventually located her body.

Back in January 2021, a month before she was murdered, the model blasted Putin over his crackdown on protests and what she saw as a desire to forge a bigger Russia.

“Given the fact that Putin went through a lot of humiliation in childhood, he could not stand up for himself due to his [slight] physical form, it is not surprising that he left after law school and joined the KGB,” she wrote.

“Such people are timid and fearful from childhood, afraid of noise and darkness, strangers, so traits such as caution, restraint, and lack of communication are developed early in their character.

“I can only assume, in my opinion, a clear psychopathy or sociopathy is seen in him.”

She told her followers: “For psychopaths, it is important to constantly experience a sense of fullness and sharpness of life, so they love risk, intense experiences, intense communication, intense activity – an intense and dynamic life.

“Maybe he really wants to enhance the integrity of Russia and sincerely wishes the good for the Russians.

“But can he really do anything?”

She made clear she had grave doubts.

“I think you know the answer to this question yourself,” she posted.

China will face ‘significant consequences’ if it sends military aid to #Russia – US insists

The White House has insisted that China will face ‘significant consequences’ if it sends military to aid to Russia after National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Monday held an ‘intense’ seven-hour meeting with Beijing’s top diplomat.

However, Press Secretary Jen Psaki refused to lay out President Joe Biden’s red lines on what would trigger action, or describe what those consequences might be during the daily briefing.

‘I think what we have conveyed and what was conveyed by our national security adviser in this meeting, is that should they provide military or other assistance that of course violates sanctions or, or supports the war efforts, that there will be significant consequences,’ she said.

‘But in terms of what the specifics look like, we would coordinate with our partners and allies to make that determination.’

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan met Yang Jiechi, a member of the Chinese Communist Party’s politburo, at a Rome hotel on Monday morning.

It came after reports at the weekend that Russia had approached China for help in resupplying its armed forces. But a senior administration official characterized it as a ‘frank exchange’ of views and said the meeting was long-planned.

‘What I would say in general is that we do have deep concerns about China’s alignment with Russia at this time,’ said the official, ‘and the national security adviser was direct about those concerns and the potential implications and consequences of certain actions.’

The official said it had not been set up to discuss concerns that Russia had asked China for military help.

Breaking! #Russian drone shot down after ‘flying into #NATO airspace’ – #Ukraine Military claims

A Russian drone flew over Poland before entering Ukrainian air space where it was shot down, Ukraine’s military claimed in a statement.

The drone is claimed to have first circled over the Ukrainian city of Yavoriv before flying over Poland where it was in breach of Nato territory.

In a statement the Ukrainian air force command said that the drone flew into Nato airspace, accusing Moscow of a “provocation”.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces said the drone appeared to be assessing damage caused to the Yavoriv military base near Lviv over the weekend after missile strikes killed at least 35 people, 24 TV reports.

It was then said to have flown over Poland before returning to Ukrainian airspace where it was shot down by the country’s air defence.

A spokesperson for the Ukrainian forces said: “As we can see, the occupiers continue to carry out their provocative actions without hesitation, flying into the airspace of Nato member states.”

Putin’s forces launched missile strikes just 12 miles from the Polish border with Ukraine in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The airstrike, which blasted the Yavoriv military base near Lviv, killed at least 35 people and injured another 134.

Russian forces fired more than 30 cruise missiles at the base, prompting authorities to warn Vladimir Putin could start “provoking” Nato countries.

Poland belongs to the 30-strong defensive military alliance which also includes the UK, US, France, and Germany.

On Monday,  Britain’s health secretary Sajid Javid vowed Britain will go to war against Russia if Putin attacks a Nato country.

Mr. Javid said: “We’ve been very clear from the start, with our Nato allies, that if there is any kind of attack on Nato territory then it will be war with Nato and there will be a severe response.

Appeal court in Owerri orders Shell to deposit $2B in 48 hours over alleged oil spillage

The Appeal court in Owerri has ordered Shell oil company to deposit about $2 billion in an account controlled by the court within two working days.

This comes after Shell appealed an earlier Federal High Court ruling in November 2020 that ordered Shell to pay 800 billion naira ($1.95 billon) to 88 communities of Egbalor Ebubu in Rivers state, who had accused the company of an oil spill that damaged their farms and waterways.

The three-man panel on Monday March 14, also ordered Shell Plc to stop selling any assets in Nigeria until a decision is reached on its appeal of the nearly $2 billion penalty.

According to Reuters, a spokesperson for Shell’s Nigeria unit said the company would immediately appeal the decision.

The judges said Shell, acting through its agents or subsidiaries was restrained from “selling, allocating, vandalising or disposing off any of its assets/properties …” pending the determination of the appeal.

“We are disappointed at this outcome. We have a strong belief in the merit of our case and will take immediate steps under the law to appeal and stay the execution of the decision until the appeal is determined,” Shell’s spokesperson said.

Shell started talks with the Nigerian government last year about selling its stake in Nigeria’s onshore fields, where it has been active since the 1930s, as part of a global drive to reduce its carbon emissions.

The company, the most significant international oil company operating in Nigeria, has faced a string of court cases in the past two decades over oil spills.

In 2021, Shell agreed to pay a Nigerian community $111.68 million to settle a case over an oil spill that took place more than 50 years ago.

“Messi is an emotionless alien” – Former footballer, Di Canio says

Former footballer, Paulo Di Canio has described Lionel Messi as an ’emotionless alien’ while placing Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of him.

The West Ham legend, 53, was impressed by Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick against Tottenham in reaction to Ralf Rangnick leaving him out of the team for the Manchester derby.

While Messi was booed by his own fans for the first time in his career against Bordeaux on Sunday but did not react – leaving Di Canio puzzled.

He said on Sky Italia: “Messi left the pitch scratching his head, he has no emotions.

“I prefer Cristiano Ronaldo. ‘Do you want me to sit on the bench against Man City?’

“I go back to Portugal, then I return and score a hat-trick. I prefer the human who has a soul to the alien without emotions.”

He added: “Messi showed his personality limits.

“Of course, he can be booed. There were thousands of fans waiting for him. They were dreaming, but his behaviour was not the right one.”

Some Paris Saint-Germain fans also graffitied the club’s training ground calling for Lionel Messi’s exit.

Many supporters expected the Argentine to help deliver the Champions League trophy to Paris but PSG had the familiar feeling of an early European exit – crashing out to Real Madrid in the last 16 last week

The agency also banned the acceptance and presentation of new online banking and loan applications without regulatory assessment and approval.

This is coming two days after FCCPC, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, National Information Technology Development Agency, and the Nigerian Police Force shut down some illegal financial institutions operating on Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

The decision was contained in a statement on Monday by Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera, for the Joint Regulatory and Enforcement Task Force.

He said the order is in furtherance of the action taken by the Inter-Agency Joint Regulatory and Enforcement Task Force last Friday, which led to the shutdown of some online banks.

The statement read, “In furtherance, and pursuant to an Order of the Federal High Court procured by and granted to the FCCPC, the JRETF executed a search and seizure Order on certain digital money lenders.

“Further, the Commission also entered and served wide-ranging orders on Google LLC (Play Store) and Apple Inc. (App Store) to enforce the withdrawal of certain applications where evidence has established inappropriate conduct or use of the application in violation of the rights of consumers.

“The Order of the Commission also prohibits acceptance and presentation of new applications for the same purpose without regulatory assessment and approval.

“In the interim, the Commission admonishes all the businesses that were subject of regulatory intervention on Friday, March 11, 2022, to cease and desist the interest compounding and loan repayment/collection practices that are the objects of this investigation.

#Ukraine Invasion: Woman interrupts #Russian TV news live news with ‘NO TO WAR’ sign (video)

A woman holding an anti-war sign ran on to the set of a Russian evening news programme on the state-controlled Channel 1, to interrupt the show with a ‘no to war’ sign.

Russian TV news is tightly controlled by the Kremlin and reflects only the Russian version of events in Ukraine but on Monday evening, March 14, a brave woman named as Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor at the channel 1, controlled by the government held a clearly visible sign behind the presenter, which read: “No war, stop the war, don’t believe the propaganda, they are lying to you here.”

The woman is now in police custody according to Reuters

Her voice could be heard during the broadcast saying, “No to war! Stop the war!” before the programme director cut early to a recorded news report.

Before the protest, which happened live on the nightly news programme, she recorded a video in which she called events in Ukraine a “crime” and said she was ashamed to work for what she called Kremlin propaganda.

“I’m ashamed that I allowed myself to tell lies from the television screen. Ashamed that I allowed Russians to be turned into zombies,” she explained.

She called on the Russian people to protest against the war, saying that only they could “stop the madness”.

From the moment Ms Ovsyannikova’s identity became known, she has received dozens of comments on her Facebook page in Ukrainian, Russian and English, thanking her for her actions.

New laws introduced since the invasion of Ukraine have made the media industry in Russia more harsh towards independent bias reporting.

The Legislation passed earlier this month made it illegal to call the military action an “invasion” or to disseminate “fake” news about it.

State-controlled Russian media refer to the war as a “special military operation” and paint Ukraine as the aggressor, with a government described as neo-Nazi.

Lots of social media sites have also been blocked, further restricting the number and diversity of news sources available to people inside Russia.

Facebook and Twitter have been restricted for several days, while Instagram – which is particularly popular in Russia – was blocked on Monday, although many Russians have now use VPNs to access the sites.

EFCC arrests Cyber criminal wanted by FBI for over $100m fraud

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that  its operatives have arrested Osondu Igwilo, an alleged leader of a criminal network who has been on the wanted list of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) since 2018.

The anti-graft agency, in a statement on Monday, said Igwilo was apprehended in Lagos on Thursday along with three others.

They are said to be involved in money laundering and identity theft to the tune of $100 million.

The statement reads, “Fifty-two-year-old Igwilo, who is the alleged leader of a criminal network of ‘catchers’ was arrested alongside Okafor Nnamdi Chris, Nwodu Uchenna Emmanuel and John Anazo Achukwu at a studio in the Sangotedo area of Lagos for alleged fraud, money laundering and identity theft to the tune of about $100m.

“Before their arrest, Igwilo and his accomplices had allegedly been involved in an advance-fee scheme that involved false promises of investment funding by individuals who impersonated some United States of America, USA, bank officials in person and via the internet.

“Investigation revealed that those who fell victims to the suspects’ criminal activities were asked to make certain payments before they could receive their funding.

“It was also revealed that proceeds of the scheme were allegedly laundered through U.S. bank accounts and diverted back to the alleged perpetrators in Nigeria.

” Consequently, Igwilo was placed on the FBI watch list, following a criminal complaint filed against him in the United States District Court, Houston, Texas in December 2016.”

The EFCC said five houses have been recovered from Igwilo in Lagos, adding that the suspects will be charged to court

Kim Kardashian has revealed that ex-husband Kanye West told her that her ‘career is over’.

In the new trailer for Hulu’s “The Kardashians,” the Skims founder shares a displeasing comment Kanye told made to her, while revealing it’s hard to cope with the rapper.

“It is really hard with Kanye,” Kim narrates, before the trailer cuts to a scene where she tells Kourtney Kardashian, “He told me my career is over.”

Kim, 41, previously told Variety that West, 44, filmed scenes for the family’s new reality series before their relationship went bad.

It’s also unclear how much of their divorce will play out on the new show, as the KKW Beauty founder claims she has been trying to keep their dirty laundry away from the screens.

“I don’t think I would ever criticize the father of my children on my TV show,” she said in a Variety interview. “That’s just not really what I’m about, and I just don’t think that would ever make me feel good.”

She added, “Being in the public eye and having disagreements publicly is never easy. But I do believe in handling it all privately. I believe in championing publicly and criticizing privately.”

Nigerian Airline Operators will be granted licence to import aviation fuel – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has announced that it would grant a license to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to start importing aviation fuel, otherwise known as ATK.

Speaking at the end of the investigative hearing instituted by the house of representatives on Monday March 14 to resolve the issues between oil marketers and airline operators on the price surge of ATK, NNPC GMD Mele Kyari said;

“As requested by the airline operators of Nigeria, there would be granted licence by their authority to import petroleum products, particularly ATK, so that they can have a way of benchmarking the sales from other customers. They can also bring in cheaper products whenever it is possible”

Kyari also said representatives of the oil marketers’ association and airline operators would meet to deliberate on the benchmark for pricing to achieve transparency and price alignment.

He added;

“In the next three days, representations from MOMAN, DAPPMAN and the airline operators would sit down and agree on a transparent basis for pricing, which means that they have to have a reference benchmark that is quoted transparently in the market.

“They will have a reference exchange rate for the naira so that anyone can compute and so they will also engage and agree on a premium, which differs from customer-to-customer, depending on the volume of the products you buy, and then the credit limit you are ready to do.

“So this is one thing that they can negotiate in three days and close so that going forward there is a transparent basis of pricing.

“This would no doubt throw out the actual value of the product in the market. You would not see these huge discrepancies that we have seen where some people are selling at N445 and some are selling at N630. This will completely bring it to almost closure that you will not see such differences.

“Secondly, we agreed that in the interim, between now and the three days that they will close the basis for pricing because the lowest we have seen as of this morning is N445 and another high of 605. There is a trader that is selling at 630, we don’t think this is normal.”

The NNPC GMD also revealed that stakeholders in the aviation sector have agreed to peg the price of the aviation fuel at N500 for the next three to four days.

He said;

“So logically, let me emphasise, we agreed that they will sell for the next 3 days at N500 to a litre and on day 3 or day 4, they will switch to the new formula that everyone can access and compute”

Lock down Hits China as it Wrestles Worst COVID-19 Pandemic In 2 Years

China placed all 17 million residents in one of its biggest cities under lockdown on Sunday, as virus cases doubled nationwide to nearly 3,400 and anxiety mounted over the resilience of its ‘zero-Covid’ approach in the face of the worst outbreak in two years.

The southern tech hub of Shenzhen told all residents to stay at home as the city struggles to eradicate an Omicron flare-up linked to neighbouring virus-ravaged Hong Kong.

The lockdown and a suspension of public transport will last until March 20, a city government notice said, adding that it would launch three rounds of mass testing.

The move extends an earlier lockdown imposed on the city’s central business district.

Shenzhen reported 66 new infections on Sunday — a fraction of the 32,430 confirmed the same day in Hong Kong.“If prevention and control is not strengthened in a timely and decisive manner, it could easily become large-scale community transmission,” Shenzhen health official Lin Hancheng said at a briefing.

VP, Osinbajo reportedly informs Baba of his intention to run for President in 2023

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has reportedly informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to run for President in 2023.

DailyTrust reports that the VP told the president of his desire to take over from him at the expiration of his tenure in 2023 to consolidate the achievements they recorded since they took over from the opposition PDP in 2015.

The vice president will struggle for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with the likes of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who had a few months ago visited the Presidential Villa where he told Buhari of his intention to succeed him.

“Certainly, VP Osinbajo has told the president that he wants to succeed him. The vice president had first consulted some prominent Nigerians who encouraged him to vie for the presidency and they also encouraged him to tell the president himself. They told him not to allow a third party to tell the president so that the ambition will not be misconstrued” a presidential source was quoted as saying

Another source said when Osinbajo approached the president with the story, Buhari was not surprised.

“Buhari smiled in his usual characteristic manner…he listened to the VP carefully and while responding, he gave him the green light and wished him well without giving him any commitment or assurance of supporting him ahead of other contenders.

He blessed the intention just the way he blessed Tinubu when he visited him in the Villa and unveiled his plan to vie for the presidency.  And I think the president is being careful. Remember what he said while granting an interview to a national television.”

Osinbajo is yet to make his intention known publicly.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has extended its warning strike for another two months.

The union reached the decision at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which started on Sunday night, March 13, and ended early Monday morning.

The NEC meeting was held at the union’s national secretariat at the University of Abuja.

A member of the NEC said a statement is currently being drafted by the leadership of ASUU and that as soon as it is ready, it will be distributed, Vanguard reports.

The source said: “Yes, we have extended the strike by eight weeks pending when the Nigerian government would find the university system worthy of the desired attention. A statement is currently being drafted to that effect. We will make it available soon.”

Graphic: Say to no “breast implants” (video)

A lady is crying out for help after her implant exploded leaving her with deflated boobs.

The lady who has now launched a GoFundMe account to raise money for reconstruction surgery, said she suffered sepsis and it got so bad that she had a puss build up.

She wrote;

Hello my wonderful guys & girlies & non binary friends. I hope your all doing well.

So After my forth time of having sepsis in a year in my boob unfortunately it got so bad this time that I got a puss build up..after squeezing out all the puss in hospital desperate to save the implant I was left with necrosis. The dead skin died and the implant totally came through the skin. The implant pushed the nipple to the side and now I’ve got to have the implant removed to save my body from getting sepsis into my organs.

After 3 months of having no breast implant I can then go back to DR REVIS at South Florida Plastic Surgery to get reconstruction surgery and start my journey again from 800cc.

I wouldn’t have just started this page if I had the money..unfortunately things haven’t been easy as I had my fans sites taken away mental and financial difficulties. I’m not ashamed..it’s how life is and we keep on going.

so I’m asking for donations to get that surgery after I have the implant taken out. I know it’s expensive but it’s total reconstruction of both boobs and nipples.

thank you for your support

honestly thank you

A Ukrainian couple who first met during the 2015 war in the country have decided to get married before they take on Russian troops in the outskirts of Kyiv.

The couple, who met for the first time during the war in Donbas seven years ago, were pictured at the ceremony held in a hospital in Brovary earlier today.

The soldiers began their relationship in 2022 when they met by chance during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Instagram was inaccessible in Russia on Monday after Moscow accused its parent company Meta of allowing calls for violence against Russians, including the military, on its platforms.

The move comes after Facebook and Twitter were blocked in early March as part of sweeping efforts by Moscow to control information available to Russians about its military operation in Ukraine.

Instagram appeared Monday on a list of “restricted” online resources on a list published by Russia’s media regulator Roskomnadzor.

Instagram’s app was not refreshing without a VPN, AFP journalists said.

Facebook and Instagram are widely used in Russia, the latter being the most popular social media platform among young Russians.

For many small Russian businesses, Instagram was a key platform for advertising, processing sales and communicating with clients.

Pregnant woman pictured on stretcher dies with her baby after maternity hospital was bomb by Russian invaders (video)

A pregnant woman whose image went viral after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces attacked a Ukrainian hospital has died along with her baby, medics say.

On 9 March 2022, the Russian Air Force bombed Maternity Hospital No 3, a hospital complex functioning both as a children’s hospital and maternity ward in Mariupol, Ukraine, killing at least three people and injuring at least seventeen

Pictures of the unnamed mother-to-be in agony as she was carried from the Mariupol hospital stunned the world last week after an attack on . The woman was rushed to another hospital, closer to the frontline, where doctors worked to keep her alive.

But realising she was losing her baby, medics said that she cried out to them: ‘Kill me now.’

This morning the doctors trying to save them both spoke of the huge efforts trying to save them.

Surgeon Timur Marin found the woman’s pelvis crushed and hip detached. Medics delivered the baby via caesarean section, but it showed ‘no signs of life’, the surgeon said. They then began work on the mother.

‘More than 30 minutes of resuscitation of the mother didn’t produce results,’ Mr Marin said on Saturday. ‘Both died.’

After Wednesday’s airstrike, medics did not have time to get the woman’s name before her husband and father came to take away her body.

Someone came to retrieve her, they said so she that she doesn’t end up in the mass graves being dug for the victims of Vladimir Putin’s forces.

#Russian forces Strikes Hits #Kyiv Ahead Of New #Russia-Ukraine Talks

An airstrike on a residential building in Ukraine’s capital killed at least one person Monday, the country’s emergency service said, as Moscow maintained its devastating assault ahead of a fresh round of talks.

The strike, which injured at least a dozen people, came as Russian troops edged closer to the city and kept up their siege of the southern port city of Mariupol, where officials said nearly 2,200 people have been killed.

“As of 7:40 am (0540 GMT) the body of one person was found dead in a nine-storey apartment building” in the capital’s Obolon district, the emergency service said in a statement, revising an earlier toll.

Ukrainian and Russian representatives were set to meet via videoconference Monday, a Ukrainian presidential adviser and a Kremlin spokesman both said before the latest strike.

According to Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia, the talks would begin at 0820 GMT.

“And our goal is that in this struggle, in this difficult negotiating work, Ukraine will get the necessary result… for peace and for security,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday, adding that both sides speak every day.

He said the aim was “to do everything to ensure a meeting of presidents. A meeting that I am sure people are waiting for.”

“We see significant progress,” Leonid Slutsky, a senior member of Russia’s negotiating team, told state-run television network RT Sunday.

Talks between Kyiv and Moscow have yet to yield a ceasefire and Russian forces have shown no sign of easing their onslaught.

Russia threatens Western companies with arrests, seizures – report says

hold, have threatened foreign companies hoping to withdraw from the country with arrests and asset seizures, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

letters and in-person visits — including to Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble, IBM and Yum Brands, the parent company of KFC and Pizza Hut, according to the business daily, citing sources familiar with the matter.

They have threatened to arrest officials who have criticized the government or to seize assets, including intellectual property. “The warnings have prompted at least one of the targeted companies to limit communications between its Russian business and the rest of the company, out of concern that emails or text messages among colleagues may be intercepted, some of the people (familiar with the matter) said,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

Russia has faced unprecedented sanctions imposed by Western governments after the invasion of Ukraine, with a growing list of companies announcing their withdrawals from the country or their plans to suspend activities there.

Russian authorities have boosted efforts to prevent money from leaving its borders and to support the ruble, which has already seen a precipitous drop in value against the dollar.

Without using the word “nationalization,” Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is in favor of appointing “external” administrators to head such foreign companies in Russia “in order to transfer them to those who want to make work.

The prosecutor’s office on Friday meanwhile ordered “strict control” of companies that had announced a suspension of their activities in Russia, warning especially of increased monitoring of labor legislation compliance, under penalty of prosecution. Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble and Yum Brands did not respond to requests for comments by AFP Sunday.

Ukraine crisis: Russia Begs China For Military and Economic Aid

Russia has asked China for military and economic aid for its war in Ukraine, hours after United States warned Beijing would face severe “consequences” if it helps Moscow evade sanctions.

United States officials told media on Sunday that Russia had requested military equipment and support from its key ally.

Moscow also asked Beijing for economic assistance against the crippling sanctions imposed against it by most of the Western world, the New York Times said, again citing anonymous officials.

The officials declined to explain exactly what Russia had requested, or whether China had responded, according to the reports.

Recalls that Russia military operation invaded Ukraine on Thursday February 24.

A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington told multiple outlets “I’ve never heard of that” when asked about the alleged requests.

The reports came just a few hours after the White House announced a high-level US delegation would meet with a top Chinese official in Rome Monday.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Yang Jiechi, the Chinese Communist Party’s chief diplomat, “will discuss ongoing efforts to manage the competition between our two countries and discuss the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on regional and global security,” National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne said Sunday in a statement.

Beijing has declined to directly condemn Moscow for launching its invasion, and has repeatedly blamed NATO’s “eastward expansion” for worsening tensions between Russia and Ukraine, echoing the Kremlin’s prime security grievance.

Sullivan made a round of Sunday talk shows to say the White House was “watching closely” to see whether China provides material or economic support to Russia to help it evade the punishing impact of sanctions.

“It is a concern of ours, and we have communicated to Beijing that we will not stand by and allow any country to compensate Russia for its losses from the economic sanctions,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union” show.

Sullivan said that while he did not wish to “brandish threats” against major economic rival China, “we are communicating directly, privately to Beijing that there will absolutely be consequences for large-scale sanctions-evasion efforts.”

Beijing said this past week that its friendship with Russia remains “rock solid” despite international condemnation of Moscow, and has expressed an openness to help mediate an end to the war.

Ukraine Govt. accuses Russia of fake referendum plot in Kherson

Ukrainian officials on Saturday accused Russia of planning a fake referendum on creating a pro-Moscow “people’s republic” in the southern Black Sea city of Kherson.

Russian forces seized the port city, which has a population of 290,000 people, on March 3 following a three-day siege. It was the first major city to fall following Moscow’s invasion.

“Russians now desperately try to organize a sham ‘referendum’ for a fake ‘people’s republic’ in Kherson,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted.

Due to “zero popular support”, such a referendum “will be fully staged”, he added.

“Severe sanctions against Russia must follow if they proceed. Kherson is & will always be Ukraine,” the minister added.

Kuleba drew a parallel with Russia’s annexation of the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea in 2014 when it held a referendum on joining Russia after deploying troops there.

The Kherson plan was following a “2014 playbook”, Kuleba said.

Ukraine’s ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova wrote on Telegram that Russian occupying forces were phoning lawmakers from the local legislature, asking them to vote for the plan.

Denisova said such a referendum would be illegal on the occupied territory since under Ukrainian law any issues over territory can only be resolved by a nationwide referendum.

The crowd in the video was also heard shouting in Igbo language; “O lagburu di ya”. Meaning, she sexed her husband to death.

Nigerian Govt. closes EasyCredit, GoCash, Okash, Kashkash others for operating illegally

The federal government of Nigeria has closed down the operations of online banks such as GoCash, Okash, EasyCredit, Kashkash, Speedy Choice and Easy Moni, noting that they are illegal.

The Federal Competition Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), in conjunction with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), National Information Technology Development Agency, and the Nigerian Police Force, on Friday, raided the offices of the financial institutions operating on Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

The FCCPC said the operation was in response to customers’ complaints of malpractices by the financial institutions.

The Chief Executive Officer, FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera who spoke on the raid stated that customers had accused the financial institutions of violating their privacy in their debt recovery drive.

“This information started quite a while ago. Some time ago, when the country was on lockdown in 2020 due to the pandemic, we started seeing the rise in money lenders,” he said.

“Because there was lockdown due to the pandemic, people needed small easy loan which is understandable. But over a period of time, people started complaining about the malpractices of the lenders, so we started tracking it”

“Towards the end of last year, we gathered quite a lot of information. We started working with some other key agencies and the FCCPC led the meeting where we all agreed there would be a joint effort to look into these businesses.”

Irukera further explained that the interest rate charged by online financial institutions appear to violate the ethics of how lending is done.

“The key two things that were subject of concern were what seems to be the naming and shaming violation of people’s privacy with respect to how these lenders recover their loans,” he noted.

“Secondly, the interest rate seems to be a violation of the ethics on how lending is done. So, those were the two things that we set out to look for.”

“So, we started an investigation trying to determine the location of these firms. That has been a very difficult thing. We did that for several months and some of them have moved from one place to the another and we have been visiting these places for months.

“We found out that most of these companies operate from the same place. We also found out that many of them are actually operated by the same person. They are not Nigerian companies, they don’t have an address in Nigeria and they are not registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission and they do not have any licence to do their business”

Irukera also noted that the agency had written to global app companies asking them to suspend the operations of the online banks.

He said, “Essentially, what they have is an app, and so we started gathering more information about them. We engaged the public and the people who had been their victims. They gave us more information”

“As we got more information we had enough evidence to convince the court to issue a warrant for us to proceed with an investigation into a search and seizure. And sometime last month, a court issued a warrant and between then and now, we were preparing a sting operation which is what you are seeing here today. The reason for this is because we wanted to be sure we are hitting at the place we could get many of them.”

“In addition to what you are seeing here today, the FCCPC has also issued multiple orders today. Two of them are going to vendors: Apple and Google stores where some of these apps are available. We have asked them to shut these companies’ apps down so that people will not be victimised anymore. Secondly, some of them (the orders) have gone to the bank, asking them to freeze the accounts used by these people.”

“I must add though that not all money lenders are operating illegally and that is why it has been taking time for us to track these people.

“It doesn’t also mean that the people we are proceeding against today are the only ones, no. We want to start with them. We also understand that they are between five and seven companies operating at the same location.”

“Russians may become refugees soon” – #Ukraine’s President warns

Moscow’s actions in Ukraine will be met with such a strong international response that the Russians may end up needing humanitarian corridors themselves, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

“The Ukrainian military ensured there was a ceasefire so that humanitarian corridors would work. If the occupiers [Russia] start shooting again and disrupt the rescue of our people, in the end, they will receive such an answer from the world that they themselves will need humanitarian corridors,” Zelensky warned in a video address released on Friday.

The warning is coming as Russian forces have continued to advance to some of the key cities in Ukraine.

Though, the Ukrainian president Zelensky has vowed never to surrender to President Vladimir Putin forces after a three week fierce battle between the warring nation.

Anonymous hacks Russian TV and Media houses, leaks 340,000 files

Anonymous hacked CBN,

Anonymous has hacked into Russia’s media censorship agency and released 340,000 files in the latest attack to undermine Vladimir Putin President Putin’s war propaganda campaign.

According to Mail Online, the hacktivists broke into the Roskomnadzor federal agency to steal the classified documents which they then passed on to transparency organisation Distributed Denial of Secrets (DDoSecrets), who published them online.

The trove of 820 gigabytes of emails and attachments, some of which are dated as late as March 5, show how the Kremlin is censoring anything referring to their brutal invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow is instead calling a ‘special military operation’.

The Anonymous hacker said they ‘urgently felt the Russian people should have access to information about their government’, DDoSecrets said.

The files relate to the Russian republic of Bashkortostan, one of the largest in the federation with a population of four million.

Roskomnadzor, which oversees mass media in Russia, restricted access to Facebook and Twitter before blocking them and also threatened to cut off access to Wikipedia, due to its article on the invasion.

On February 24, the agency ordered all media outlets to only use official, state-sanctioned information sources or face severe punishment for spreading ‘fake news’.

The words ‘war, ‘invasion’ and ‘attack’ were all banned from use when describing Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

Earlier this week, Anonymous claimed to have hacked into Russian state TV to air footage of the war in Ukraine.

The hacking collective said it targeted Russia 24, Channel One, and Moscow 24 to show the realities of the savage invasion.

The hackers said they are taking part in the ‘biggest Anonymous op ever seen’ in their take-down of Russia.

Part of the footage aired on Russian TV included the message: ‘ordinary Russians are against the war’ and urged them to oppose the invasion.

And last week, the hackers claimed to have shut down Russia’s space agency so Putin ‘no longer has control over spy satellites’.

It comes after reports that Chinese telecoms giant Huawei ‘rushed to Russia’s aid’ to fend off Western cyberattacks.

Reports in China say the tech giant, which has several offices in the UK, has been helping Putin’s efforts to stabilise Russia’s internet network.

Worried investors run to ‘human rights Org’ for help over cash invested in Chinmark Group

Aggrieved and frustrated investors who invested millions of naira into Chinmark Group investment scheme, have approached Due Process Advocates (DPA), a human rights organization for help after the company failed to keep to the terms of their contract.

Sources at the rights group told Tori Media that many people have contacted them for help in respect of the huge money they invested in a failed scheme which was masterminded by Chinmark Group.

The number of people who invested in the scheme appears to be staggering as they believe that they have been defrauded by the company.

Multiple sources said that the money invested into the company could be amounting to billions of naira but Tori Media is yet to verify this claim.

According to other sources, the inability of Chinmark Group to pay back their investors, has resulted to shattered homes and also caused many to fall into depression.

“I want to see Igbo become president” – Obasanjo

Again, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reiterated that it would gladden his heart to see a Southeasterner emerge as president of Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Obasanjo who has maintained that the time has come to bring total reconciliation to Nigeria by supporting a president of Southeast extraction to emerge in 2023, repeated the sermon yesterday when the founder of New Nigeria Group (NNG) and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, paid him a visit in his Abeokuta, Ogun State country home.

The former president said he also believes that there are a lot of things that Southeasterners can bring on the table.

“Beyond bringing unity to Nigeria or being the cement that holds the country together, I believe that Southeasterners can model hard work and entrepreneurship. That will help in wealth creation and fight against poverty, which is ravaging Nigeria,” he said.

He told Ohuabunwa that running for the office of the president of Nigeria was a tough job but expressed happiness that he (Ohuabunwa) has endured up till date and said he was looking forward to the final realisation of his vision to see Nigeria fully united and restored to a country that all Nigerians would be proud to call theirs.

Fielding questions from journalists after the meeting, Ohuabunwa encouraged the people of the south, particularly the southeasterners to aspire to the office of the president because that is what has been done in the past to maintain the unity of the country.

“We had southern and northern protectorates, which came together to form Nigeria and since then, our founding fathers had always wanted to maintain peace by ensuring that there is rotation and that we share things. That is why the federal character principle is in the country’s constitution. We are a nation of diverse ethnicities and geographies, and the only way we can maintain proper peace is to ensure that everybody is treated fairly, and rotation and power sharing are some of the methods of ensuring inclusiveness and making sure that Nigerians feel that they are part of it,” he said.

He noted that Southeasterners had made great contributions to Nigeria, starting from the days of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and reminding them that they are not strangers neither are they just appendages.

“When it comes to political rights, we need to assert our rights and provide that leadership that Nigeria is lacking, and I hope that in 2023, God will offer us that opportunity and Nigerians will come behind us to take Nigeria to become the first world nation,” he added.

He said his ambition is to make Nigeria a first world nation; a globally competitive nation and a nation that works like the other countries, which Nigerians admire.

“Most importantly, I want a nation that works for all and creates job for the young people of Nigeria to exercise their creativity and innovation; not a nation of poor, corrupt, jobless people or that of terrorists and bandits. That does not describe us; we are going to change the narrative,” he said.

He said that Obasanjo as a president, showed the highest level of not only detribalization but also fairness and equity as he didn’t discriminate.

“He believes in equity but also in merit because he took good people; I mean people like Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, the Chukwuma Soludo and the rest of them worked for him and that is what he represents. He wants Nigeria to work,” he added.

He described the former president as a phenomenon and conscience of the country. “He is the conscience of this nation and we must admit it. He speaks his mind. He is not an angel and he can’t be perfect, but I have never seen a man as bold, audacious, and also, with a heart of humanity as Obasanjo.

Nike may end deals with #Chelsea which could cost the club about £540M

Sporting brand, Nike are considering walking away from their 15-year kit deal with Chelsea in a split that could cost the Blues £540million, according to reports.

The Blues have been plunged into crisis after owner Roman Abramovich had his assets frozen by the UK Government amid links with Vladimir Putin.

Chelsea have already seen shirt sponsors Three suspend their £120million partnership, and now kit manufacturers Nike could follow suit.

According to DailyMail, the two parties agreed on a 15-year, £900m deal back in 2016 – but after recent events Nike are claimed to be ‘considering walking away’.

This would cost the Blues a staggering £540m.

Chelsea are already unable to receive Premier League or Champions League prize money amid Abramovich’s sanctions. And they can’t even sell tickets to their remaining home games.

The Blues’ megastore is currently closed for business as they are banned from flogging merchandise.

Pat Nevin, who has a column in Chelsea’s matchday programme, revealed on BBC 5Live earlier on Thursday that the Blues have already ‘partially laid off’ members of staff.

Chelsea could even be deducted nine points if they go into administration before the end of the season.

Furious #Putin, sacks 8 generals over slow pace of the #Ukraine Invasion

The Ukranian government has claimed that 8 Russian generals have been sacked over the slow and unsuccessful invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Armed Forces.

Oleksiy Danilov, head of Ukraine’s security council, says eight Russian commanders have been fired since the start of the conflict amid heavy losses on the battlefield.

Another report alleged that Putin is annoyed with leaders of the FSB security service for handing him intelligence suggesting that Ukraine was weak, riddled with neo-Nazi groups, and would give up easily if attacked.

Putin ?sacks eight generals? in anger at slow progress in Ukraine invasion

Philip Ingram, a former senior British intelligence officer, told The Times that Putin is obviously ‘very angry’ and is blaming his intelligence agencies.

‘He blames them for seeding him the advice that led to the poor decision-making in Ukraine,’ he said.

That poor advice made the military to attack Ukraine less than optimally leading to Russia suffering much higher casualties than it expected in its attack – a war which has exceeded two weeks.

Danilov said Putin thought capital city Kyiv would fall within two to three days  which made him send in light forces to seize key targets during the opening days.

‘It hasn’t happened and never will,’ he said.

Danilov said ‘desperate’ Moscow has ‘now switched to a different tactic’ by changing leadership.

‘They had about 8 generals removed from their posts because they did not complete the task,’ he told state TV.

Also in the report, another theory is that the organisation did gather good intelligence but was simply too afraid to tell Putin the truth, instead doctoring their reports to appease him.

‘The problem is that it is too risky for superiors to tell Putin what he doesn’t want to hear, so they tailor their information,’ he said.

They are now said to be making ‘apocalyptic’ forecasts about the weeks and months ahead as fighting grinds on and punitive sanctions isolate the country.

When asked how Russian politicians were reacting to the crisis, one source told Rustamova: ‘They’re carefully enunciating the word clusterf**k.

‘No one is rejoicing. Many understand that this is a mistake, but in the course of doing their duty they come up with explanations in order to somehow come to terms with it.’

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, over two million Ukrainian refugees have fled, as cities face shortages of food, water, heat, and medicine – with some having to resort to melting snow for water.

Breaking! Another Russian Commander, General Andrei Kolesnikov, of armoured unit killed in Ukraine

A third Russian general has allegedly been killed in Ukraine in just eight days in another devastating blow to Vladimir Putin’s savage invasion of Ukraine.

Major General Andrei Kolesnikov of the 29th Combined Arms Army became the latest high-profile casualty of the war today, Ukraine’s government announced.

Kolesnikov’s death comes four days after the killing of Major General Vitaly Gerasimov, 45, the first deputy commander of Russia’s 41st army.

The general took part in the second Chechen war, the Russian military operation in Syria, and the annexation of Crimea, winning medals from those campaigns.

According to reports, there are believed to be 20 Russian generals taking part in the faltering invasion, which has also seen the loss of 173 tanks, 12 aircraft, and 345 troop carriers.

Western officials said the multiple general casualties suggest they are having to move to the front because Russia’s troops are either unable to make their own decisions or are fearful of moving forward.

According to reports, Gerasimov was the son of Valery Gerasimov – the Chief of General Staff of Russia’s armed forces.

Last week, Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky, 47, deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District, was killed. Sukhovetsky died during a special operation in Ukraine, his comrade-in-arms Sergey Chipilev wrote on social media.

He was shot and killed by a sniper near Mariupol, which has been under a brutal siege by Russian forces for days.

Analysts have said Russian tank commanders allowed the Ukrainians to gun down their unit by driving down the middle of a main road leading into Kyiv – and straight into a death trap.

Rob Lee, a Senior Fellow and military expert at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, commented on the ambush, saying the Russian armoured force displayed ‘very poor tactics’.

Indian military accidentally fires missile into Pakistan (no loss of life recorded)

India said on Friday March 11, it accidentally fired a missile into Pakistan this week because of a “technical malfunction” during routine maintenance, giving its version of events after longtime foe Pakistan warned the incident could have “unpleasant consequences.”

“On 9 March 2022, in the course of a routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile,” India’s defense ministry said in a statement.

“It is learnt that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan. While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident.”

The ministry said the government had “taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry” into the incident.

Earlier on Friday,  Pakistan’s foreign office said it had summoned India’s charge d’affaires in Islamabad to lodge a protest over what it called an unprovoked violation of its airspace.

Pakistan also called for an investigation into the incident, which it said could have endangered passenger flights and civilian lives.

Pakistan warned India “to be mindful of the unpleasant consequences of such negligence and take effective measures to avoid the recurrence off such violations in future”.

Pakistani military spokesman Major-General Babar Iftikhar said in a late evening news conference on Thursday that a “high-speed flying object” crashed near its eastern city of Mian Channu and that originated from the northern Indian city of Sirsa, in Haryana state near New Delhi.

“The flight path of this object endangered many national and international passenger flights both in Indian and Pakistani airspace as well as human life and property of ground,” he said.

Iftikhar in the news conference on Thursday also called on India to share the outcome of its investigation into the incident.

A Pakistan air force official said the object travelled at an altitude of 40,000 feet, at Mach 3, and flew 77 miles in Pakistani airspace before crashing.

Loser #Putin seeks foreign volunteers to help #Russia fight in #Ukraine

Russian strongman, Vladimir Putin has called for foreign volunteers to help fight against Ukrainian forces.

Speaking at a Russian security council meeting on Friday, March 11, he said those who wanted to volunteer to fight with Russia-backed forces should be allowed to.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said there were 16,000 volunteers in the Middle East ready to fight alongside Russia-backed forces and US officials believe they could include Syrians skilled in urban combat

“If you see that there are these people who want of their own accord, not for money, to come to help the people living in Donbas, then we need to give them what they want and help them get to the conflict zone,” Putin told his defence minister.

Putin asks for foreign volunteers to help Russia fight in Ukraine

Shoigu also proposed handing over captured Western anti-tank missile systems to Russian-backed rebel fighters in the breakaway Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk in the Donbas region.

“Please do this,”  Putin said.

Responding to Putin’s claims, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video message, said “thugs from Syria” would be coming to kill people “in a foreign land”.

Meanwhile Ukraine has had an influx of foreign fighters coming to join in the fight against Russia.

Zelensky said recently that 16,000 foreigners had volunteered for the cause, part of what he called an “international legion”.

Putin’s televised security council meeting came as Russian forces in Ukraine began attacking new targets in different areas of the country:

An airfield and jet engine factory were targeted in Lutsk, in the north-west
Explosions also hit airfields at Ivano-Frankivsk, in the south-west, according to Russian defence officials.

In Dnipro, a major stronghold in central eastern Ukraine, one person was reported dead in air strikes.

Refugees totaling 2.5 million have now left Ukraine since the war started according to the United Nations.

Dad kills his 7-day-old baby girl because he wanted his first-born to be a boy

A Pakistani father has been arrested on suspicion of shooting dead his seven-day-old baby girl because he wanted his first-born to be a boy.

The newborn baby named Jannat – meaning ‘heaven’ in Urdu – was shot five times on Monday at her home in the central city of Mianwali, police said.

The suspect, identified as Shahzaib Khan, allegedly entered his house and ordered his wife to hand over Jannat before shooting dead the week-old baby, reported Dawn newspaper.

Shahzaib, who has been married for two years, then fled the scene but was arrested on Thursday in a nearby district, police said.

In some parts of Pakistan, tribal customs mean that baby girls can be considered an insult to manhood, according to Mail Online.

The girl’s maternal uncle, Hidayatullah Khan, launched a formal complaint against the suspect for the killing.

‘A baby girl was born…he was infuriated,’ Hidayatullah said, referring to the father.

The devastated relative said Shahzaib had not returned to the family home after discovering his wife had given birth to a baby girl and refused to accept her.

Hidayatullah said the suspect entered the family home where relatives had gathered and ordered his wife to hand over Jannat to him.

‘The suspect took the girl into his hands and shot her dead,’ he told Dawn.

Hidayatullah claimed that he had tried to take the baby away from Shahzaib but the suspect had pointed the gun at him and the other relatives and threatened to shoot them if they moved closer.

The case sparked fury in Pakistan, with the public condemning the ‘brutal’ death of the newborn baby.

‘This is beyond barbaric,, brutal and vicious. The only solution to stop this brutality is hanging him publicly,’ Tehseen Qasim wrote on Twitter.

‘I’m disgusted to the core. I feel terribly for the mother. Look at the beautiful daughter she had. Women lead the world, it’s 2022,’ wrote Misbah Munir, another Twitter user.

Vladmir Putin trying to recruit Syrian Mercenaries to fight in Ukraine – Pay $200 Per Month

Russia has reportedly offered volunteers from Syria between $200 and $300 to fight in its ongoing military onslaught in Ukraine.

Recalls that Russia military operation invaded Ukraine on Thursday February 24.

According to Syrian-based Deir Ezzor, Russia had offered money to volunteers “to go to Ukraine and operate as guards” for six months at a time.

“Deir Ezzor 24 received exclusive information that Russia had instructed to open the door for volunteering for a period of six months, to go to Ukraine and operate as guards, with salaries ranging between 200 and 300 USD, in addition to recruiting mercenaries with wide privileges,” the report said.

The Wall Street Journal cited four United States officials as saying Russia was recruiting fighters from Syria with the hope that their expertise in urban combat can help take the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

The number of Syrians recruited is uncertain as at the time of filing this report, though one official said some were already in Russia preparing.

The Journal report adds that Syrian recruitment by Russia points to a possible escalation of the war.

This development came as Ukraine appealed to foreigners who wanted to fight in its defence, with President Volodmyr Zelensky announcing the creation of the International Legion for anyone wanting to fight Russia in Ukraine.

“Anyone who wants to join the defense of Ukraine, Europe and the world can come and fight side by side with the Ukrainians against the Russian war criminals,” the statement on the presidential website said.

Ukrainian officials had revealed that 3,000 Americans had applied to fight.

Breaking! #Vladimir #Putin moves to nationalise foreign companies moving out of #Russia

Western businesses leaving Russia due to the war may have their companies and production facilities confiscated by the Russian state, according to Moscow.

Businesses that leave the country are “basically abandoning their staff to their fate,” said former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday.

To prevent people ending up unemployed and on the streets, the Russian government is taking steps to bring about the insolvency and subsequent nationalisation of these companies, the deputy chief of the Russian Security Council said.

On the foundation of the assets left behind by “investors in panic,” new industry would have to be built. This approach is objective and fair,” said Medvedev.

Among the affected are companies from Germany, other EU countries, and the U.S.

There is no law in Russia to nationalise a company’s assets.

But calls are growing among Russian politicians for such a law in reaction to the EU sanctions and it is expected that the Russian parliament will decide on such a process soon.

Many Western companies had only reported that operations are being paused at first, without mentioning full closure or withdrawal.

“Whatever the reasons for moving away, foreign firms should understand that it will not be easy to come back to our markets,” Medvedev said.

Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, warned that a nationalisation of Western companies and seizure of their assets could have negative consequences for both sides, as Russsian companies abroad may also have their assets seized.

Proposals are also circulating for the assets of companies in Russia to be handled through fiduciary trusts.

Over 35,000 Boko Haram rebels have surrendered – Borno Government

Borno State government has announced that more than 35,000 Boko Haram insurgents and their families have surrendered.

Special adviser to the governor on security matters, Brigadier General AS Ishaq (rtd), confirmed this during a stakeholders’ dialogue on the reintegration of repentant Boko Haram hosted by the Peace Ambassadors Center for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment (PACHE) in Maiduguri on Wednesday March 9.

Delivering a paper detailing how the over 35,000 Boko Haram members who surrendered are being managed, Ishaq said the non-kinetic approach adopted by Operation Hadin Kai of the Nigeria Military Command and Control Centre played an immense role that led to the mass surrender.

The Special adviser to the governor on security matters who revealed that three more Chibok girls have also returned, added that the repentant Boko Haram members would not harm anyone because they were not forced to repent.

Nigerian Senate rejects amendment to Electoral Act

The Senate, on Wednesday, rejected the Executive request by President Muhammadu Buhari to amend the Electoral Act signed into law on the 25th February, 2022.

This followed the failure of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill to scale through second reading on the floor during plenary.

The move to reject the bill was signaled by a call from Senator Adamu Aliero for it to be stepped down after the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, moved a motion for the bill to be read a second time.

Aliero, who came under a point of Order, drew the attention of his colleagues to the provision of Rule 52(5) of of the Senate Standing Order.

Order 52(5) provides that, “Reference shall not be made to any matter on which a judicial decision is pending, in such a way as might in the opinion of the President of the Senate prejudice the interest of parties thereto.”

He, therefore, advised the upper chamber to step down consideration of the bill pending the vacation of a court order delivered by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday.

According to the Lawmaker, going ahead with the amendment of the Act was in clear conflict with the sub judice rule in law which prevents the legislature from deliberating or considering any matter already before a court of competent jurisdiction.

“Going ahead to consider the bill obviously will mean that we are disrespecting that order, and this is an institution of the Senate – the symbol of Nigeria’s Lawmaking body.

“We should not be seen to be disobeying the court order. No matter how bad that court order is, we should respect it.

“So, I’m of the opinion that we should stop considering this bill pending the time the court set aside that order, and I think I’m speaking the opinion of my colleagues here”, Aliero said.

The court, in a ruling delivered by Inyang Ekwo, on an ex-parte application by the People’s Democratic Party, barred the President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Senate President from tampering with the newly amended Electoral Act 2022.

The Court maintained that the Electoral Act, having become a valid law could not be altered without following the due process of law.

The Senate President, while ruling on Aliero’s point of Order, insisted that the move by the upper chamber to amend the Electoral Act was in line with exercising its Constitutional duties amid following due process.

“To be specific to this particular request, for us in the Senate, it is to look at the request and follow our due process.

“Looking at the request does not mean granting the request. Members of the National Assembly are at liberty to review the request to see if the arguments by the Executive arm of government are convincing enough.

“If the arguments are not convincing enough, the National Assembly can deny the request, and that is how it is. We have no incumbrance from that order.

“So, it is for Senators here to decide to vote for this amendment or vote against it.

“I think we are not breaching any law, in fact, we are trying to promote democracy because to do otherwise may mean that one day someone will go to court and say that the Senate of the National Assembly should not sit.

“I want to appeal to all of us, that we are on the right course and my ruling remains that we are going ahead to consider the proposal which the Leader of the Senate is leading the debate.

“At the end of the debate, we are going to vote, and the vote will decide the fate of the bill.

“I’m sure all of us know that whatever we do here is to protect democracy and the sanctity of the upper chamber”, the Senate President said.

The Senate Leader, was then given the floor to lead the debate on the Electoral Act Amendment bill.

Contributing to the debate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South), kicked against the deletion of Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill as requested by President Buhari.

He said, “There are certain things that we see which we think we don’t even have to come here to debate.

“One of those things is the fact that in every democracy, all over the world, there are certain rules which we don’t need to be told about.

“One of those rules is the fact that you cannot be a referee and a player on the same field. It is either you’re a referee or a player.

“So, every other place in the world where democracy is practiced including Nigeria, we don’t need to be told that if we want to run for office, we have to resign. That is a sine qua non that we don’t even need to debate.

“Yet here we are today in Nigeria, and people think they can sit in an office and contest an election and become candidates and continue to sit in that office until the date of election.

“So, how would we continue to debase democracy in this way?

“Mr. President, I think, a cursory look at this paper shows that this paper is dead on arrival. And I urge you my colleagues, to help us to continue to deepen democracy by insisting that this bill not be read a second time in any manner whatsoever.”

Smart Adeyemi (Kogi West), who was also opposed to the consideration of the bill said, “one of the hallmarks of democracy is Justice, Fairness and Equity.

“Indeed, Mr. President, it is a settled matter in law that you cannot be a judge over you own case.

“In any election, where people have the added advantage of holding executive power, either by proxy or directly or by appointment, for such people to have access and compete with others who came from the street, I think is an unjust society.

“Therefore, Mr. President, I disagree with all the arguments on the need to consider a decision that has already been settled.”

A move by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, to sway his colleagues was unsuccessful.

The bill, when eventually put to a voice vote for second reading by the Senate President after its consideration, received a resounding ‘nay’ from Senators in the majority across party lines.

Mistaken Identity: Ryan Coogler, Black Panther CEO, arrested and placed in handcuffs (video)

Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler, was briefly detained by police in Atlanta after he was mistaken for a bank robber,

The incident took place on January 7 but Atlanta police released footage on Wednesday, March 9.

Coogler, 35, had gone to Bank of America to make a transaction.

Coogler handed the bank teller a withdrawal slip with a note written on the back that reportedly read, “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.”

The bank teller misinterpreted the situation as an attempted robbery when the transaction amount exceeded $10,000 and informed her boss.

The police were called and they arrived at the bank and reportedly detained two people in an SUV who were waiting for Coogler outside the bank.

When they entered the bank, they placed Coogler in handcuffs and led him out of the bank.

“From the call we got, sounded like someone was trying to rob the bank,” one of the officers says in the bodycam footage.

Coogler was later released.

Bank of America has now apologised for the mistake at the bank.

Coogler confirmed the incident to Variety, saying: “This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”

Roman Abramovich can’t sell Chelsea FC as all his assets frozen in Britain

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government effectively blocking the sale of the club over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The billionaire Russian oligarch will have all his assets frozen, banned from coming to Britain and from doing business there.

According to UK Sun, Chelsea will be granted a special licence to continue playing but Abramovich will not profit from the club. The club is also not allowed to sell tickets – with only season ticket holders being able to attend fixtures.

In a statement on Thursday March 10, UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson said: “There can be no safe havens for those who have supported Putin’s vicious assault on Ukraine.

“Today’s sanctions are the latest step in the UK’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people.

“We will be ruthless in pursuing those who enable the killing of civilians, destruction of hospitals, and illegal occupation of sovereign allies.”

Abramovich is among seven Putin cronies sanctioned today to keep twisting the thumbscrews on Russia for invading Ukraine.

News first emerged last week that Abramovich had listed the club for sale following the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, the billionaire cannot sell the five-time Premier League champions, and the UK Government would need to give special dispensation for the sale of the club – with Abramovich receiving no money for it either directly or indirectly.

‘President #Vladimir #Putin could launch chemical weapons attack on Kyiv’ – Western officials warn

Western officials have warned of their ‘serious concern’ that Russian President Vladimir Putin could use chemical weapons in Ukraine to commit further atrocities during the invasion.

The officials claim that an ‘utterly horrific’ attack could be launched on the capital of Kyiv to revive the Russian war effort amid logistical issues, mechanical failures, and a lack of fuel for their armoured vehicles.

In a briefing with journalists, one Western official who spoke on on condition of anonymity said: ‘I think we’ve got good reason to be concerned about possible use of non-conventional weapons, partly because of what we’ve seen has happened in other theatres.

‘As I’ve mentioned before, for example, what we’ve seen in Syria, partly because we’ve seen a bit of setting the scene for that in the false flag claims that are coming out, and other indications as well.

‘So it’s a serious concern for us.’

UK’s Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said that the UK has already handed Kyiv 3,615 anti-tank weapons, known as NLAWs, or new light-antitank weapons.

He said a ‘small consignment’ of Javelin anti-tank missiles will follow, while ministers consider whether to send Starstreak high-velocity anti-air missiles.

But a Polish proposal to hand its MiG-29 fighter jets to a US military base in Germany, with the expectation they would be handed to Ukrainian pilots, was dismissed in Washington.

The warnings came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared a Russian missile attack had landed a ‘direct strike’ on a maternity hospital in the southern port city of Mariupol.

The hospital was decimated, with women and children feared trapped underground in what Zelensky described as ‘an atrocity’.

Ukraine’s Foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba called it a ‘petrifying war crime’, as he pleaded for allies to supply Ukraine with aircraft.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said there are ‘few things more depraved than targeting the vulnerable and defenceless, while Foreign Secretary Liz Truss described the hospital attack as ‘absolutely abhorrent’, but continued to reject Ukraine’s request for a no-fly zone to be imposed over its skies.

Pep Guardiola celebrates as Manchester City qualifies for Champions League quarter final

Pep Guardiola said Manchester City’s routine stroll into the Champions League quarter-finals is cause for celebration despite a subdued 0-0 draw against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.

All the hard work for the English champions was done with a 5-0 win in the Portuguese capital three weeks ago as City reached the last eight for the fifth consecutive season.

“It’s a good sign,” said Guardiola. “The last decade, step-by-step the club grew up.

“Every season playing this competition, qualifying for last 16 and now in the best eight teams in Europe.”

City are on course for a fourth Premier League title in five seasons, but the Champions League has so far remained out of reach despite the billions invested by the club’s Abu Dhabi owners.

Guardiola knows his legacy in Manchester will be judged on whether he can finally make City champions of Europe.

However, he believes the achievement of just becoming a regular contender should not be overlooked.

“Every year when we qualify for the Champions League I celebrate it that night because I know how difficult it is,” he added.

“When you qualify for last 16, I celebrate it. Now it’s time to congratulate everyone, focus on the Premier League and see who we get in the draw.”

A much tougher test will lie ahead in the last eight as Sporting set out at the Etihad just to avoid another embarrassing scoreline like the one they suffered on home soil.

“After the result of the first game the tie became practically impossible,” said Sporting goalkeeper Antonio Adan.

“The team was better defensively, and they didn’t play with the same clarity either. We leave satisfied.”

Guardiola handed a European debut to teenage right-back CJ Egan-Riley with a number of defenders out through injury, illness or suspension.

Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez were also rested from the start, but City should still have won the game comfortably.

Raheem Sterling wasted the best of the home side’s chances as the England international failed to lift the ball over Adan from Phil Foden’s sensational through ball.

After an uneventful first half, City thought they had claimed the lead through Gabriel Jesus early in the second period.

Mahrez, introduced at the break, ran into the box and slid the ball into the Brazilian on the left.

Jesus smashed in from a tight angle but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

The state of the tie was summed up when Guardiola took the chance to give 36-year-old goalkeeper Scott Carson his first Champions League appearance since 2005, replacing Ederson 17 minutes from time.

Carson was called into action to bravely block from Pedro Porro with Sporting’s best chance moments later.

Mahrez, John Stones and Sterling all missed chances late on to break the deadlock, but Sporting salvaged some pride by holding out for a clean sheet.
