Offset arrested during his Instagram live after run-in with Trump supporters (video)

Offset detained

Although video shows rapper Offset, née Kiari Kendrell Cephus being pulled out from his vehicle by policemen, authorities say he was not arrested, reversing course after earlier confirming the arrest.

In a clip shared online, an officer can be heard asking him to step out of the vehicle. “I’m not doing that, I’m not doing that. Because you’ve got guns out,” Offset says, with the officer replying, “That’s my choice.”

“I’m not going to move my hands from my steering wheel,” Offset then says, as a female officer tells him that they were told that he was “waving guns.”

“You know who I am? Offset from the Migos. They got fans, that’s why they’re following me,” the rapper replies.

However, the female officer states, “That has nothing to do with why we’re here. We were told that you guys were waving guns at people.” Offset then claims that they “watched somebody beat my car up with a flag.”

Migos’ Offset was detained on Saturday October 24, in Beverly Hills following an incident which reportedly involved Trump supporters who were marching in the area.

An eyewitness who was at the scene also posted video of Offset outside of his car with the officers holding him. A crowd can be seen with some holding Trump flags.

Beverly Hills Police Department later released a statement regarding the incident, confirming that Offset was not arrested. However, another man who he was with, named Marcelo Almanzar, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm in public. Almanzar is Cardi B’s cousin.

The police statement read;

“On 10/24/2020, at approximately 5:02PM, Beverly Hills Police received information from a passerby of a subject who pointed a weapon from a vehicle at him; in the area of South Santa Monica Blvd and N. Beverly Drive. The passerby provided a license plate to the vehicle, and the vehicle was stopped by patrol units a short distance away.  After the on scene investigation, the passenger in the vehicle was arrested.  The victim of the crime did not desire to press charges for the pointing of the weapon.”

Marcelo Almanzar’s bail has been set for $35,000.

#ENDSARS: Osun State Govt denies hoarding COVID-19 palliatives

Osun State Gov

The Osun State Government on Friday, October 23, said COVID-19 palliatives were not distributed up till now because those in charge were waiting for approval and formal flag-off by donor, Coalition Against Covid-19 (CACOVID) Abuja.

Recall that suspected hoodlums on Friday looted COVID-19 palliatives kept in warehouses located on the premises of Coca Processing Industrial in Ede.

In a statement issued by the Osun State Ministry of Information, Alhaji Bayo Jimoh, the Secretary of Osun State Food and Relief Committee, who is in charge of the food donated by (CACOVID) denied reports that the food items were hoarded, adding that they can only be distributed after a formal flag-off by the CACOVID Office, Abuja.

“It is not true that the food items were hoarded. The food items can only be distributed after a formal flag-off by the CACOVID Office, Abuja. We do not have the authority to distribute the food items without approval from Abuja,” he said.

The residents of the state lamented that the food items that were meant to serve as relief during lockdown was kept at the warehouse up till now.

But Bayo said the committee was still expecting the rice component of the donated items, which is 40,230 bags of 5kg.

“All these are part of the reasons the items were still in the warehouse up till the time of the invasion. The following items were donated: Pasta FMN – 29,992; Pasta OLAM -10,282; noodles- 80,644; garri -40,322; salt- 40,320; and sugar – 40,227. However, the rice components of the donated items are yet to be delivered up until now,” he added.

Read full statement below:

Ede Warehouse Attack: Putting the Records Straight

We are in receipt of information that the Warehouse in Ede, where we kept the relief materials donated to the Osun Food and Relief Committee by the Private Sector Coalition Against Covid-19 (CACOVID), has been attacked and food items carted away.

It has therefore become imperative to put the records straight in view of the falsehood and the misinformation making the rounds about the donated relief items.

One, it is not true that the food items were hoarded.
Two, the food items have no direct bearing with the State Government, as they are within the purview of the Food and Relief Committee.

Three, the items can only be distributed after a formal flag-off by the CACOVID Office, Abuja.
Four, we do not have the authority to distribute the food items without approval from Abuja.

Besides, the Committee is still expecting the rice component of the donated items, which is 40, 230 bags of 5kg. All these are part of the reasons the items were still in the warehouse up till the time of the invasion.

The following items were donated: Pasta FMN – 29, 992; Pasta OLAM -10, 282; Noodles- 80, 644; Garri -40, 322; Salt- 40, 320; and Sugar – 40, 227.

However, the rice components of the donated items are yet to be delivered up until now.
The Committee wrote to CACOVID as recently as September 28, 2020, reminding it of the rice component, which is yet to be delivered.

Part of the letter reads: “I wish to refer to our letter on the above subject and wish to request for the recent update on the rice component expected to have been delivered to the State, and also to seek your advice on the exact time the State should expect delivery, considering the fact that items already received into the Warehouse are food materials and are perishable with limited shelve lives.

“May I recall in our previous discussions that the delay experienced is due to increase in cost of rice and delivery, that the amount paid to suppliers could no longer cover cost of purchase and delivery to Osun. “

However, up until this moment, we are yet to receive response from CACOVID.
This is the truth about the status of the donated relief items until their unfortunate looting.

‘Why Buhari did not talk about Lekki shooting’ – Sunday Dare

We buhari has not spoken about the Lekki massacre

Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare has explained why President Buhari did not speak on the Lekki toll gate shooting in his speech yesterday October 22.

The Minister in an interview on Arise TV said the President has ordered an investigation into the incident. Dare added that Buhari wants to have all the facts which will be made public.

He said;

“For sure, the president has ordered an investigation. He had a national security meeting yesterday. I can tell you that this is already ongoing because the president wants to have all the facts which will absolutely be made public.

“It is important to get all the facts right before we go forward, in this case. It’s going to be difficult to hide these facts because we live in a multimedia world and we have pieces of evidence and corroboration and I think it is important to get the facts right.

“I think that’s the part the president has towed and I am sure that when the facts are made available, this president – because he has integrity – will level with the Nigerian people about what happened on Tuesday in Lekki.

“Previously, we just had lip service that SARS scrapped. For the first time, you have a presidential pronouncement that SARS has been dissolved followed by the inspector-general and then we saw quick steps thereafter.

“And I think when you look at what has happened in the past and the level of responsiveness and concrete steps, the whole five demands of the youth were wholeheartedly accepted by the president and he set up a process.”

“We’ve lost 69 persons during #EndSARS protests” – Buhari

President Buhari has reportedly revealed that 69 persons were killed in the #EndSARS protest across the country.

BBC reported that the Nigerian President disclosed this during a virtual meeting with former leaders and security chiefs on Friday October 23.  He said that 51 civilians, 11 police officers, and seven soldiers were killed in the unrest.

Buhari was quoted saying in a statement released by Femi Adesina that the killing came off an “initial genuine and well-intended protest of youths which was hijacked and misdirected”.

It was further gathered that the Nigerian President who stated that his administration will not allow miscreants and criminals to continue to perpetrate acts of hooliganism in the country, accused the protesters of refusing to call off the protest in spite of meeting their demands.

The statement read;

”Unfortunately, the protesters refused to call off the protest and engage the government to address their grievances. Instead, they became emboldened and gradually turned violent.

”We shall also continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected. Here, I want to also reaffirm our commitment to preserving the unity of this country.

“The President thanked the former Heads of State for attending the meeting and their invaluable comments, observations and advice, adding that ‘Nigerians expect nothing less from responsible statesmen’.

“Each of the former leaders commended President Buhari for steps taken so far to restore calm and order to the country and also applauded the presidential broadcast of Thursday as detailed and soothing to the country.

“The former heads of state were unanimous in their view that generation of employment and growing the economy including through direct foreign investments were critical to checking youth restiveness.

“The former heads of state also condemned the divisive and inciting pronouncements of separatists and were of the opinion that such acts should be stopped.

“Equally, the former leaders commended the actions taken by governors to address the demands of the ENDSARS protesters and their efforts to check the excesses of those who perpetrated violent acts and conduct.

“Finally, they called on youths to pursue peaceful means, in seeking redress through engagement with government and encouraged further conversation with the youths and other stakeholders in the country.”

Former NFL star, Dana Stubblefield sentenced to 15 years to life for rape

Dana Stubblefield convicted to 15 years

Former San Francisco 49ers player, Dana Stubblefield has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the 2015 rape of a developmentally disabled woman.

The Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office said in a statement the 49-year-old was sentenced on Thursday, October 22, by a judge in San Jose after denying a defense motion for a new trial.

He was convicted in July following a nine-month trial after a jury found him guilty of rape by force, oral copulation by force, and false imprisonment after having lured the woman to his home with the promise of babysitting work. The jury also found that he used a gun in the assault.

A day before the April 2015 assault, Stubblefield contacted the then 31-year-old woman on a baby-sitting website and arranged an interview, prosecutors said.

The Morgan Hill Police Department said the woman’s interview lasted about 20 minutes. She later received a text from Stubblefield saying he wanted to pay her for her time that day, and she went back to the house.

After raping her, Stubblefield gave her $80 and let her go. But on her way home, the woman immediately went to the police and reported the rape, the report said.

“‘No’ meant nothing to this defendant,” said Deputy District Attorney Tim McInerny. “Based on his status, I think he was never held accountable for prior criminal behavior. Today, he was properly held accountable.”

Stubblefield’s attorney, Allen Sawyer disagreed with the jury’s finding, saying: “We are as adamant as ever that Mr. Stubblefield is innocent,” he told CNN.

He believes the victim is not intellectually disabled and says the evidence to prove it was excluded from the trial.

Sawyer also disclosed he will file an appeal with the hope of ‘reintroducing excluded evidence, arguing additionally that holding a trial during a pandemic created an atmosphere that unduly impacted the jurors’ decision.

Stubblefield played in the NFL as a defensive tackle starting in 1993, when he won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year with the 49ers. He also played for Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders but retired due to an injury shortly after being signed by the New England Patriots in 2004.

He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 1997, made three All-Pro and Pro Bowl teams, and he won a Super Bowl ring with the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX.

Marcello Lippi, World Cup winning boss, announces coaching retirement

Marcello Lippi retires

Former Italy, Juventus, China and World Cup-winning boss Marcello Lippi has retired from coaching.

Lippi, 72, has been unemployed since resigning as China head coach in November last year following a 2022 World Cup qualifying defeat to Syria.

He lasted just six months in the job, his second time coaching China’s team.

After spells with Atalanta and Napoli, Lippi took charge of Juventus in 1994 helping them to three Serie A titles and the club’s last Champions League trophy in 1995-96.

Across two stints as Juve coach, and a one-year reign with rivals Inter, Lippi won five Serie A trophies, four Supercoppa Italiana crowns, the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and Coppa Italia.

After leaving Juventus in 2004, Lippi helped Italy to World Cup glory in 2006 and he was re-appointed by the Azzurri in 2008 following two years away from the national team.

Marcello Lippi, world cup winning boss, announces coaching retirement

The legendary coach now says he won’t coach again.

“I’m definitely done with the coaching job,” Lippi told Radio Sportiva .
“That’s right, it’s enough. Maybe I could be useful in other roles, let’s see. But nothing until spring.”

In China, Lippi joined Guangzhou Evergrande in 2012 and claimed three Chinese Super League titles and the AFC Champions League trophy to go with Chinese FA Cup and Chinese FA Super Cup success.

But Lippi didn’t have any success with China’s national team and announced his resignation in November last year after a shocking loss to Syria.

“A team should give everything on the pitch. The tactics of the head coach should be carried out. If the player is afraid of losing the game, then there is no fighting spirit, desire, guts,” Lippi said post-match.

“It is my responsibility, the head coach’s responsibility, although we defeated Guam and the Maldives, but the team that we played against today was better, more coordinated and organised than us.

“My annual salary is very high. I am fully responsible for this loss. Now I declare that I officially resigned.”

The US Securities and Exchange Commission pays record breaking $114 million to whistleblower

SCEC USA pays 114 million to a whistleblower

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has awarded a staggering record breaking $114 million to a whistleblower who tipped the government off to misconduct and provided “extraordinary” assistance in an investigation, the agency has announced.

The record breaking sum doubles the prior SEC whistleblower record, which was set just four months ago.

According to the SEC, the whistleblower initially reported the wrongdoing internally to the company involved, all to no avail. At that point he or she tipped off the SEC.

Whistleblowers have helped the SEC uncover bad company programs such Ponzi schemes and insider trading to market manipulation and bribery.

“I hope this record-breaking award encourages others with information about possible securities laws violations to step forward,” Jane Norberg, head of the SEC’s whistleblower office, told CNN Business.

“There is a real hardship, both personal and professional, that people endure. The money, I hope helps.”

“One big lesson from this award is that companies should take reports from whistleblowers seriously,” Norberg said. “Because it is likely that the SEC already has the information, or will shortly thereafter. And we will follow up on it.”

According to Norberg, whistleblowers normally report wrongdoings first to the company involved and when they experience no success they then go to the SEC.

“People just get frustrated,” she added. “They become quite disenchanted and that’s when they come to the SEC. Whistleblowers are often employees who can’t live with seeing wrongdoing happening at the company.”

“These whistleblower tips have a huge impact on our enforcement program. It’s a gamechanger,” Norberg said.

The SEC fiercely protects the identities of whistleblowers, which means it is almost impossible to know who received the $114 million award, or what misconduct he or she helped uncover.

“It’s incredibly serious,” Norberg said of the confidentiality.

“People have to feel comfortable to come to us.”

According to the SEC, the award included about $52 million tied to its case, plus $62 million from related actions taken by another unnamed agency.

The whistleblower endured “personal and professional hardships.”  SEC said

Stephen Kohn, chairman of the National Whistleblower Center, cheered the $114 million award.

“This is the type of award that changes cultures,” said Kohn, a whistleblower attorney at Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto.

“It incentivizes people to come forward and it also deters wrongdoing. It makes it very real for people who are thinking about engaging in fraud. They realize there is a strong likelihood they’ll be turned in.”

The SEC handed out 39 individual whistleblower awards totaling about $175 million during the fiscal year that ended in September.

“When we first started, we were a really small shop. Early on in the program, we were wondering if it would be successful,” said Norberg, who served as the whistleblower office’s first deputy chief. “Then the tips started coming in. It just grew and grew and grew.”

“The money is also a motivating factor. It can push someone who is otherwise on the fence to report their concerns,” said Norberg. “There is a real hardship, both personal and professional, that people endure. The money, I hope, helps.”

”And at times, revenge can also be a motivating factor.”

“I’ve seen whistleblowers who have personal relationships with the wrongdoer and they report on them when the relationship goes sour,” Norberg said.

Since its first payment in 2012, the SEC has awarded a total of $676 million to 108 individuals. The awards are paid out of a pool of money financed entirely through fines the SEC collects, not taxpayer money.

Mesut Ozil’s agent slams Mikel Arteta after he was omitted from premier league

Mesut Ozil omitted from premier league season

Dr Erkut Sogut, agent to Arsenal star footballer Mesut Ozil, has slammed the football club over its treatment of his client, after Ozil who earns a staggering £350,000 per week salary was omitted from their Premier league and Europa league squads for the season meaning he is only eligible to play for the club’s under-23 team.

After club manager, Mikel Arteta ( pictured top left) omitted the playmaker from his premier league and European squads even though Ozil is under contract until the summer of 2021, Ozil wrote a very emotional letter saying the club has not repaid his loyalty, asking why the club wanted to force him out when he has always given his best to the club.

After Ozil’s letter trended on social media, Arteta said he had failed Ozil to which Ozil’s agent Sogut has now responded to.

Dr Erkut Sogut  says an “honest explanation” is needed from the Gunners to the fans as to why the World Cup winner has been turned to an outcast.

Sogut says he is ruling nothing out at this stage, with a stunning U-turn by the club still possible, but he doesn’t understand why the decision was taken.

Sogut told ESPN: “Arsenal fans deserve an honest explanation, not [Arteta] saying ‘I failed Ozil.’ You didn’t fail Ozil: you failed to be fair, honest and transparent and treat someone with respect who has a contract and was loyal all the time.

“Every single person outside knows he hasn’t treated him fairly. He didn’t give him a chance to show himself this season.

“If he is still under contract, the player should have the option to stay and fight for his place.

”Mesut hasn’t been given that. Why would you put a player on the bench twice for 90 minutes [against Brighton and Crystal Palace in June] if he wasn’t fit or committed?

“Everyone says he’s training well. Per Mertesacker [Arsenal defender, 2011-18 and now a coach at the club’s academy] said this publicly. I spoke with at least five team-mates who say he is training great. They say Mesut is one of their best players, and they cannot understand why he is left out.

“So it can’t be the training – if it is not the pitch, what are the footballing reasons? If you talk, you should tell the truth that the Arsenal fans deserve otherwise don’t talk at all.”

Setting his sights on Arteta, who retired as a player while at Arsenal, Sogut added: “He started zero games in the Premier League in his last season (for Arsenal).

“He wasn’t there in the last six months at all, busy doing his coaching badges and meeting coaches for his future. Mesut plays for one English team and that’s it because he feels he can only play for that team. He is a Gunner in the end.

“Mesut is not a player who is yesterday a Toffee and today a Gunner. Arteta didn’t play at all in the final two years, but they still registered him because he was given a contract.

“[Former manager] Arsene Wenger put him on the field for the final two minutes of his last game just to give him a nice moment, even though he wasn’t fit for months. Look at how [Arteta] was treated in his final two years, and how Mesut is getting treated in his final year.”

Sogut believes Arsenal wants to force Ozil to make a decision on his future despite handing him a lucrative contract back in January 2018.

“Maybe [Arsenal’s] goal was to wait until the end and Mesut would say ‘I want to leave’,” said Sogut.

“If Mesut would have done that, the club can say he wants to go and if they can’t find him a club, they have an excuse and can say ‘we can’t register you because you wanted to leave’, but they knew for a long time that Mesut wanted to stay. He made it very clear.

“Maybe they wanted him to feel unwanted and unwelcome, but he wants to play for the badge.

“Mesut is 32 years old. He has a few more years in his career, but it is more about the way of treatment. Mesut is someone who fights for his rights. The contract was a big commitment for him.

“He could have left for another club like Alexis Sanchez [who left Arsenal to join Manchester United in 2018] did. He could have left and got a £30m signing-on fee [somewhere else] as a free agent at the peak of his career – but he stayed loyal.

“Maybe the club will change their position in January and register him. You never know what will happen.”

12 year old rapper, Lil Rodney sentenced to 7 years for shooting 1-year-old baby (video)

12 year old rapper sentenced to 7 years

A Texas judge has sentenced a juvenile Crips gang member who removed his ankle monitor and shot a 1-year-old baby.

Judge Kim sentenced the 12-year-old nicknamed Lil Rodneyy to 7 years in a juvenile detention centre.

A video of a Zoom detention hearing held back in September 2020 has now been released. The hearing held on the day the boy turned 12.

“Now you’re 12-year-old,” Judge Kim said at the start of the hearing. “So, well, happy birthday, I’m sorry you have to spend it here at the detention facility.”

The judge continued: “You were here for… you’re on probation for arson and that is from 2019. And then, we got all kinds of promises. Most recently, I let you go. You keep cutting it [his ankle monitor] off, I’ve always let you go because you’re still young. I mean, you’re 11-years-old, right? So, I didn’t want to keep an 11-year–old in here.”

But the judge told him that every time they let him go, he keeps violating the conditions of his probation.

Judge Kim said: “So, you keep on running away, we keep on getting you back in here, make you stay a couple days, you promise me you’re not going to cut it (ankle monitor) off, and you cried a couple times about coming back here.

“And then, this last time we let you out…”

The judge then asks another participant of the Zoom call: “Mr Spence when was then last time we let him out?”

Spence replied: “He cut his monitor on 8/14 of this year.”

The judge then addressed the 12-year-old telling him that after promising he wouldn’t cut off his ankle monitor, he did it again.

“Now there’s a new charge that was filed and that was the one where you shot the 1-year-old,” Judge Kim said, adding, “You shot the 1-year-old baby.”

The judge then shows the boy a picture of himself holding a gun “I know 11-year-olds aren’t supposed to have guns after they’ve been accused of shooting a baby.”

12 year old rapper, Lil Rodney sentenced to 7 years for shooting 1-year-old baby (video)

Lil Rodney begged the judge to have mercy on him one last time but the judge reminded him that was what he said the last time and the time before that.

The boy begged: “I just want to know if you can at least give me one more chance then see. If this time I mess up you should like hold me for some months.”

The judge replied: “Yea, but didn’t you say that last time? You told me to hold you for a year last time if you mess up.”

The boy broke down and cried but the judge told him to save his tears.

“Every time you come in here you cry. You know that, right?” Judge Kim told rapper Lil Rodneyy. “Every single time, you beg me for one more chance. You swear to God, ‘On my mama’s name,’ ‘I’m not gonna cut off the monitor, I’m not gonna run off,'” said judge Kim.

The boy, who is also nicknamed “30 Shotz,” admitted he cut off his ankle monitor to attend a friend’s funeral. But he couldn’t recall the friend’s name. He told the judge he only knew the friend by his nickname.

The boy’s grandfather, who helped raise him, also attended the Zoom hearing.

Judge Kim told the boy he would be detained in a juvenile detention centre until he turned 19 – that’s 7 years.

Some people have said the sentence isn’t right and the boy would likely come out more hardened. Others said he deserved it and should be locked up for longer than that.

Rodneyy’s mother, a single mom who gave birth to Rodneyy when she was 16,  was interviewed after the hearing.

Rodneyy’s father abandoned his family, and Rodneyy’s mom chooses not to seek child support. She said she was sent away to prison twice when the boy was a toddler.

Rodneyy was raised by his maternal grandfather, who he lovingly refers to as “Paw paw.”

Sergio Aguero will not face any penalty after touching female referee

Sergio Aguero will not be sanctioned

Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero will not face any penalty from the football association after he touched assistant referee/lineswoman Sian Massey-Ellis during his side’s win against Arsenal.

On Saturday October 17, Aguero was caught on camera placing his hand on assistant referee Massey-Ellis’ shoulder during the first half of the game at the Etihad.

Touching a match official is usually punished by a yellow card, unless the physical approach is deemed aggressive in which case the player will be shown a red card. But Aguero’s actions went unpunished and he will not face any retrospective action over the incident.

As well as simply breaching the laws of the game by touching a match official, Aguero was also accused on Twitter of controlling her and exhibiting sexist behaviour due to the lineswoman’s gender.

Pep Guardiola later defended his player as ‘the nicest person he’s ever met in his life’.

The manager said of Aguero: “Come on guys. Sergio is the nicest person I ever met in my life. Look for problems in other situations, not in this one.”

However, former Premier League referee Mark Halsey said he thought Massey-Ellis handled the situation very well.

“Only Sian and Aguero know what went on in,” he told talkSPORT.

“Sian felt there was no further action required, so maybe she thought ‘okay, there’s no problem, it’s part of the game’.

“If there was anything untoward or insulting language used or she felt something wasn’t right, then Sian would have called the referee over.”

Asked if she felt under pressure not to call the referee over given her gender, Halsey reiterated his belief that Messey-Ellis would not have been intimidated saying if she felt intimidated by Aguero then she would have brought it to the referee’s attention.

“I’ve worked with Sian on a few occasions and she’s an excellent assistant referee. There’s no doubt that if she had felt intimidated then she would have called the referee over and had Aguero either cautioned or dismissed from the field of play.” Halsey said

#ENDSARS: ‘We counted 15 dead bodies’ – DJ Switch (video)

DJ Switch

DJ Switch who played a role in saving the lives of many who were present at the Lekki tollgate when security agents opened fire on End SARS protesters, has finally come out to share her experience.

In a video she posted on her Instagrm page, DJ Switch asked the authorities not to insult the sensibilities of Nigerians when giving their own account of what happened on that day.

According to her, the military aimed at endsars protesters as they fired gunshots. She also alleged that SARS officers came in after the military had left and also attacked them. According to Switch she and others present counted over 15 bodies.

”I just want to clear a few things that I have been seeing online. To our leaders, I urge you please do not minimize the suffering of families. Do not insult the grief of Nigerians, do not insult the intelligence of Nigerians. Do not insult the pains the families are facing.

People were falling left and right. Yes there were soldiers there. Another part that people are not talking about is that the police also came. The SARS people we are talking about, they also came, some maybe 40-45 minutes after the soldiers left.

We were teargassed. The teargass was like Cotonou pepper mixed with acid. We were running. We would run and we would come back and the only thing we fought with was our flags. We would sit on the floor and we would raise or hands up, raising our flags and singing the national anthem. That was all we had.

They put off the lights. Even if there was no power in that axis, there was always light at the tollgate. There was no lights. The street lights were off. It was pitch black.”she said

Speaking further, she said

”A boy jumped on me and was shouting cover her, cover her.  I didn’t even understand why he did that. They shot that boy on my back. I fell and while the soldiers were picking their shells, we were running around and picking their shells too because we wanted proof.”

She showed photos of bullet shells picked from the ground, She showed the one that was fired close to her ears and the one that was removed from someone’s lap.

The military, they were there on Nigerian soil, killing Nigerian citizens. The police and their SARS like people came doing the same thing, aiming and shooting. They were pointing the gun at us and shooting live bullets. Who takes live bullets to a protest?

To our leaders, I urge you to please not insult the intelligence of Nigerians and the families.”

DJ Switch expressed regrets that she and others allowed the military to take the bodies of the deceased persons.

”Something I think of in hindsight I wish we hadn’t done it but we carried dead bodies and dropped at the feet of the soldiers so that they could see what they did to us. When I asked their unit commander why are you killing us? I wish we didn’t do that because they ended up throwing the bodies in their van. This was up until the next morning.” she said

She dissociated herself from the social media accounts claiming she said 78 persons died. She said she and others counted 15 dead bodies.

”I never said 78 people died. What I do know is that when I was doing the live, 7 people had died. When my phone died, we had counted about 15 people. I don’t know if it was more than that. We had a lot of people stray bullet wound, gunshot wounds, and all that.

People did die. It wasn’t photoshopped. I must be a tech genius to photoshop a livefeed.” she said

She dismissed reports that her cousin died in the incident.

Thanking everyone for their prayers and support, DJ Switch said

”We must continue to move. We must continue. If we stop I fear it will probably be the next 60 years before we talk about this again. We must continue peacefully. I condemn any sort of violence. I condemn the burning of buses and peoples livelihood. ”

Crystal Palace goalkeeper, Jack Butland tests positive for coronavirus

Jack Butland tests positive to Covid19

Crystal Palace goalkeeper, Jack Butland has tested positive for coronavirus.

The England international, 27, who joined Palace from Stoke last week on a three-year contract returned a positive Covid-19 test and is now self-isolating in a London hotel.

Crystal Palace boss, Roy Hodgson who is already without Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey confirmed at a press conference on Friday, October 23, that Jack Butland tested positive for Covid-19.

‘It is very unfortunate that Wayne Hennessey picked up such a serious injury in the last international break, which was extremely unkind for us,’ Hodgson said.

‘We were forced to act because we know that he is going to be out until at least January and even then we don’t know what the future holds for him and when he will be able to get fit again.

‘So we needed to bring someone in and our misfortune continued as no sooner did Jack come and sign than he tested positive for coronavirus.

‘So we haven’t seen him because he needed to self-isolate and like Jordan he is stuck in a hotel room in London in a very boring existence I imagine, waiting for the magical period of time that you have to self-isolate for to pass and take another test and hopefully be cleared.

‘We have only had him from afar. My only contact with him is on the phone to ask how he is feeling. He is feeling good, but very frustrated and disappointed that all he sees is four walls.’

Pope Francis Gives Support To Same-S*x Marriage, Reveals Homosexuals Are Children of God

Pope Francis supports gay couples

Pope Francis has courted controversy after voicing his support for same-s*x civil unions in a documentary that debuted in Rome on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

Speaking about pastoral outreach and care for people who identify as LGBTQ, the pontiff said that he thinks same-s*x couples should be allowed to have “civil unions”.

His comments in the documentary directed by Evgeny Afineevsky has been described by observers as his clearest remarks yet on gay relationships.

“Homosexual people have a right to be in a family,” Pope Francis said in the documentary.

“They are children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out or made miserable over it. What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered.”

He added that he “stood up for that”, apparently referring to his time as Archbishop of Buenos Aires when, although opposing same-s*x marriages in law, he supported some legal protections for same-s*x couples.

The film Francesco, about the life and work of Pope Francis, premiered as part of the Rome Film Festival.

As well as the Pope’s comments on civil unions, the film also shows him encouraging two gay men to attend church with their three children.

Pope Francis’s biographer, Austen Ivereigh, told the BBC he was “not surprised” by the latest comments.

“This was his position as Archbishop of Buenos Aires,” said Mr Ivereigh. “He was always opposed to marriage being for same-s*x couples. But he believed the church should advocate for a civil union law for gay couples to give them legal protection.

UEFA says ‘final 8’ format may return for 2024 Champions and Europa Leagues

Premier league may return to the old format

UEFA has admitted it could change to a ‘final eight’ format for the Champions League and Europa League from 2024.

The format proved to be a big hit as the single-country, one-leg format was used to conclude last season’s competition in a campaign hugely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

UEFA this season announced it will revert to the regular two-legged system for quarter-finals and semi-finals for the rest of this season, but has not ruled out a change to the format beyond that.

Giorgio Marchetti, UEFA’s deputy general secretary, said: “A good rule is to never exclude something which proves valuable or has potential.

“We know there are many elements that need to be taken into account, such as calendar and organisational constraints, fans’ involvement, economic implications, but we will for sure study this format and its variations for our upcoming discussions.

“Single knock-out matches obviously favour uncertainty and emotions.

“We received great feedback from clubs, broadcasters and other partners as well as from the fans. The circumstances made this format a must, but the result could not be better as well as the degree of satisfaction.”

The 2019/20 Champions League’s final stages took place in Lisbon, while the German cities of Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen hosted the conclusion of the Europa League.

Marchetti admitted that staging all European competitions had been the result of great co-operation between all clubs and league associations.

“The football community really worked together: without the joint work and unity of intents with national associations, leagues and clubs nothing would have been achieved,” he said.

“And as we had only two months to set up simultaneous tournaments in Portugal, Germany and Spain, the local federations and authorities supported us massively.”

He said UEFA would take the same ‘strong determination’ that helped them pull off the final stages of last season’s competitions into the rest of 2020/21, which is taking place against the backdrop of a second wave of coronavirus infections across the continent.

“Everybody watched the final eight tournaments in August. What almost nobody knows is that from the beginning of August almost 500 UEFA matches have already been played,” he said.

“All the qualification rounds to Champions League and Europa League (no one single club was excluded from the access list), two men’s and one women’s international windows, under-21s.

“There are many restrictions and a strict protocol to apply with an incredible number of tests on all teams, but these difficulties don’t scare us.”

#EndSARS: ‘Allow government to implement your demands’ – Tinubu

Tinubu tells #endsars protesters to allow govt to act on their demands

Former Governor of Lagos state and National Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has told #EndSARS protesters to call of the demonstration to allow government implement their demands.

Tinubu is his statement averred that the Buhari administration has acted with commendable dispatch by not only scrapping SARS, but also accepting the five-point demand that triggered the protests.

He further stated that the intent of the organizers of the protests is to achieve stated objectives on police reform, and certainly not to cause generalized anarchy or effect regime change.

The statement read;

For the past twelve days, our country has witnessed massive protests by youths in different cities, which were ignited by widespread disenchantment with the gross human rights abuses including torture, extortion, harassment intimidation and even extra-judicial killings of Nigerians by members of the disbanded Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS).

“to build a nation where peace and justice shall reign”. Justice as one of our greatest writers has memorably noted is “the first condition of humanity”. The demands for fundamental police reforms by the protesting youths are in pursuit of our aspiration in our national anthem.

A society where those who are paid from the public purse to protect the lives and property of the people become themselves threats to the liberty, safety and dignity of the people; where human life is difficult to distinguish from Thomas Hobbes ‘State of Nature, solitary, poor, nasty and brutish’ is not one fit for free and decent people to live in. Such impunity and lawlessness are incompatible with the values and tenets of a democratic society governed by the supremacy of the rule of law.

Society confronts challenges such as injustice, impunity, corruption, dictatorship and are forced to respond in resistance and struggle for emancipation.

The result is the triumph of justice over injustice, liberty over tyranny and right over wrong thus enabling the society to be elevated to a higher level of good, accountable, responsible and responsive governance.

It was through this process that colonialism, apartheid, and all forms of dictatorship, misrule and tyranny have been overcome across time and space. Our current democratic dispensation was borne of struggle in response to the challenge of military dictatorship.

The impunity of SARS was thus a challenge that the youth have responded positively and courageously to and has triggered the commencement of the fundamental reform of the country’s policing system.

The protesters must admit that the President Buhari administration has acted with commendable dispatch by not only scrapping SARS but also accepting the five-point demand that triggered the protests. This shows a laudable sensitivity to the grievances of the youths.

It is only fair that government must be given the chance to implement the reforms demanded by the protesters. This can certainly not be done instantaneously by the waving of a magic wand.

If government had not implemented promised reforms in the past, the swiftness with which it has responded to the demands of the protesters this time around shows that that there is a positive change by government both of attitude and of a new sense of urgency.

The protesters have made considerable gains within a very short period. But they should also be careful not to fritter away such gains due to lack of moderation and strategic thinking. For instance, it is unfortunate that hoodlums, thugs and assorted criminals have seized on the protests to perpetrate violence, disrupt civil life and harass, intimidate and assault innocent persons going about their lawful business.

The intent of the organizers of the protests is to achieve stated objectives on police reform, which the government has in principle accepted. It can certainly not be their motive to cause generalized anarchy or effect regime change.

If they give the impression that that is their goal, then any government will necessarily have to act with the requisite decisiveness and force to restore law and order and preserve constitutional rule.

The vigour and vibrancy of the protests are an indication of the growing strength of the democratic culture in Nigeria. It is a demonstration of the beauty of democracy and its promotion and protection of people’s power.

However, the protesters must be careful not to set the stage for the erosion or destruction of the same democratic process that gives them the freedom and right to protest in the first place.

Their democratic right to protest must not be exercised in such a way that impedes the democratic right of other citizens to freedom of movement, expression and the liberty to pursue their livelihoods.

The fight for police reforms is surely to promote and protect the wellbeing of millions of Nigerians. It is a contradiction for the protesters to act in ways that will further worsen the economic well being of the very people they are fighting for.

The protests have forcefully demonstrated the reality and potency of people’s power and the new energy must be tapped and channeled to strengthen, not weaken the country’s democracy. Surely, the country cannot remain the same after this.

It is a good sign that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos and a number of other state governments have speedily set up judicial panels of inquiry into acts of police brutality over the years. I urge the state governments which are yet to do so to emulate this example.

Let me commend all our religious leaders, Christians and Muslims for their patriotism and high sense of responsibility at this sensitive time. I appeal to them to call on their teeming followers to call of the protests for now and give peace a chance.

Finally, I also strongly appeal to the protesters – YOU HAVE MADE YOUR POINT. GOVERNMENT HAS MADE ITS COMMITMENT TO YOU. PLEASE, PLEASE AND PLEASE, CALL OFF THE PROTESTS. GIVE GOVERNMENT A CHANCE TO IMPLEMENT YOUR DEMANDS. GOD BLESS YOU.

#ENDSARS: Lekki tollgates loses more than 250 million Naira

Lekki Toll gates loses cash

At least 234 million Naira that would have been generated from the Lekki tollgates was lost due to the closure of the tollgate as the #EndSARS protests continue.

Today, October 19, is the 11th day of the protests.

On Saturday 3 October 2020, a video started trending on social media showing a SARS police officer shoot a young Nigerian in front of Wetland Hotel, Ughelli, Delta State.

On Thursday, October 8, 2020, nation-wide protests on ENDSARS began after weeks of outcry against police brutality in Nigeria.

On Sunday, October 11, the Inspector General of Police announced that SARS has been dissolved. But this did not deter protesters and they continued to gather at key locations in different states across the country to demand an end to police brutality.

One of the protest locations is the Lekki tollgate. Protesters gather there round the clock, including the ones who stay overnight, making it impossible for vehicles to pass the tollgate.

As a result, at least 234 million Naira that would have been generated from commuters at the tollgate has been lost. However, the state has continued to generate money from adverts at the toll plazas.

The figure was obtained from the daily and monthly targets set for the tollgates by the government, which owns the tollgates managed by the Lekki Concession Company, Punch reports.

A Lagos State commissioner, who wished to remain anonymous, told the publication that the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge was expected to generate about N10m daily, while the Admiralty Circle Plaza along the Lekki-Epe Expressway was not expected to generate less than N16.6m a day.

The commissioner said the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge was not expected to generate less than N300m monthly, while the Admiralty Circle Plaza generates about N500m monthly.

“At least 80,000 cars use the tollgates every day. The figure could be higher or lower depending on the day of the week. However, since the protests started, the Lekki tollgate has been completely shut, while the Ikoyi one has been left permanently open for people to use without payment,” he said.

Taraji P. Henson, 50, confirms her split from fiance, Kelvin Hayden (video)

Taraji P. Henson confirms split

Taraji P. Henson has announced she is a single again after splitting from her fiancé of over two years, Kelvin Hayden.

The Golden Globe-winning actress, 50, confirmed her split during a new interview with The Breakfast Club, while discussing methods girls take care of “trauma-filled males”

“I’m devoted to the Black man, y’all. I simply turned 50 and I haven’t stated it but, but it surely didn’t work out,” Taraji said about engagement to Kelvin.

“I attempted, I used to be like, ‘Let’s do the remedy factor.’ However, if you happen to’re each not on the identical web page with that then you definitely really feel such as you’re taking it on yourself, and that’s not a good place for anyone to play in a relationship.”

Taraji also went to give more insight into her split, saying the pair discovered that they were not responsible for each other’s happiness and needed to “first make ourselves happy to make each other happy.”

“My happiness isn’t his duty and his happiness isn’t mine. We have now to first depend on how one can make ourselves pleased to make one another pleased. So, when one particular person is taking up the burden of the whole relationship, it’s by no means going to work. It’s important to present up and sure you need to be understanding, however, you may lose your self in that understanding,” she said

“It’s important to nonetheless get up for yourself and be there for your self but it surely’s onerous to do if the opposite particular person isn’t doing that half both.”

The couple, who both announced their engagement in May 2018, sparked separation rumors in September when the former NFL star did not attend Henson’s 50th birthday party.

Taraji and Hayden were set to tie the knot in June but postponed their nuptials due to the pandemic.

Mark continued: “To me, clothes have no gender. I prefer skirts to dresses.

“Dresses don’t allow me to mix the genders. I prefer a ‘masculine’ look above the waist and a non-gendered look below the waist. It’s all about clothes having no gender.”

The dad hopes his dress sense will help to change perceptions people have of clothing.

“Pants have now become a non-gendered article of clothing. So why can’t skirts and heels be non-gendered?”

#ENDSARS: Nigerians should prepare for increased Coronavirus cases – Ministry of Health

Mr Boss Mustapha warns for increased Covid-19 cases

The Federal Government has asked Nigerians to prepare for increased number of Coronavirus cases following the widespread #EndSARS protest across the country.

Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha issued the warning on Monday October 19.

According to Mustapha, the protest might trigger a second wave of Coronavirus infection in the country.

He said;

“I can say it authoritatively that with the ongoing protest across the country, in the next two weeks the cases of COVID-19 would have increased. Each and everyone that attended the protest and did not put up any form of protection are likely going to spread the virus. When people contract the virus during the protest gathering, they will go back home and spread it.

“This is one of the reasons why we must be extremely careful when we congregate because when you gather together in such an atmosphere where people don’t wear face masks or maintain social distance you are creating a potential opportunity for carriers to spread the virus.

“So far we have done pretty well as a country but this protest is like a setback and we must avoid a situation where we will have a resurgence. Countries that thought they have overcome are dealing with second wave. We are extremely lucky as a nation and we should be careful of any situation that can warrant the second wave.”

Calls for footballer Robinho to be jailed ‘immediately’ for his role in a gang rape in Italy

Robinho to be jailed soon

A Brazilian politician has called for footballer Robinho to be jailed ‘immediately’ for his role in the alleged gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman at a Milan nightclub in 2013.

The 36-year-old former Manchester City and Real Madrid was convicted of rape in 2017, with a nine-year jail sentence handed down by an Italian court, but his appeal process with the Italian courts has been ongoing in the years since.

Robinho, who has repeatedly denied the charges, was suspended by his Brazilian side Santos just a week after signing for them as a result of the ongoing case.

The club said they want the player to ‘concentrate exclusively on his court defence in Italy’.

Damares Alves, the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights in Brazil, has now said the footballer should be jailed immediately because the alleged crime ‘deserves no consideration’ despite appealing the conviction.

Calls for footballer Robinho to be jailed 'immediately' for his role in a gang rape in Italy

‘Prison immediately, I have no more to say,’ she told the media, as reported by Marca. ‘There is still an appeal, but the leaking of the audios … What more do you want? Prison. No rapist can be applauded.’

Alves went on to say that Robinho’s remarks about the woman caused her nausea, and that he ‘does not deserve any consideration’.

‘The sensation of that caused me nausea, I wanted to vomit,’ she said. ‘It was fatal to read what I read from a player of his size,’

‘That is a crime that does not deserve any consideration for the abuser, the rapist. We do not have to make concessions with this type of crime. He has to serve the established penalty, or there or here, immediately.’

The former AC Milan star has insisted that despite making ‘contact’ with his accuser, everything that happened at the Sio Cafe was consensual

A girl approached me, we started to have contact with her consent and mine too… then I went home,’ he told Brazilian outlet UOL.

He also said that after leaving the club, his friends stayed with the accuser and had consensual sex with her.

China’s economy grows 4.9% amid covid-19 pandemic

China Business

The Chinese economy has grown as much as 4.9% in the last quarter of 2020, despite the coronavirus pandemic that has ravaged all countries of the world.

China expanded 4.9% in the July-to-September quarter compared to the same time frame in 2019, according to government statistics released Monday by the Chinese Ministry of Finance.

The growth is much significant than the 3.2% increase that China recorded in the second quarter, when it managed to avoid recession caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

“China’s economy continued its rapid rebound last quarter, with the recovery broadening out and becoming less reliant on investment-led stimulus,” wrote Julian Evans-Pritchard, senior China economist for Capital Economics, in a research note.

“What’s more, the monthly data show that growth was still accelerating heading into Q4,” Evans-Pritchard added.

The report also says China’s Industrial production grew 5.8% in the third quarter from a year ago much faster than the second quarter’s 4.4% uptick.

The service sector also expanded at a faster pace, up 4.3% this quarter compared with 1.9% in the April-to-June period.

Retail sales also went up to 0.9% in the third quarter from a year ago, with a 3.3% gain in September alone. And the unemployment dropped to 5.4% in September, compared to 5.6% in August.

“So far we can say consumption has already climbed out from the pandemic’s deep shock,” Liu Aihua, a spokeswoman for China’s National Bureau of Statistics said at a press conference in Beijing.

“The recovery is underway.”

She added that more people are “willing to come out from their homes and spend money in the physical shops” as the pandemic has been brought under control.

France: Teacher beheaded, suspect shot dead by police

Student beheads teacher in France

A French teacher, who had recently shown students cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed, was beheaded outside his school on Friday.

The man suspected of the beheading was an 18-year-old born in Moscow and originating from Russia’s southern region of Chechnya, a judicial source said on Saturday.

Five more people have been detained over the murder on Friday outside Paris, including the parents of a child at the school where the teacher was working, bringing to nine the total number currently under arrest, said the source, who asked not to be named.

According to the source, the two detained parents had signalled their disagreement with the teacher’s decision to show the cartoons.

The other new people detained for questioning are members of the suspect’s social circle but not family members.

The assailant was shot by police and later died of his injuries.

Early on Saturday, a judicial source told AFP news agency that four people, including a minor, have been arrested in connection to the attack, which took place in the Conflans Sainte-Honorine

suburb northwest of Paris.

Those held were related to the assailant. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor opened an investigation into Friday’s incident.

A police official – speaking on the condition of anonymity to The Associated Press – said the suspect, armed with a knife and an airsoft gun, was shot to death by police about 600 metres (656 yards) from where the male middle school teacher was killed.

The killing was described by French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday as a “terrorist attack”.

Macron and Prime Minister Jean Castex visited Conflans Saint-Honorine hours after the attack took place, as government officials convened a crisis meeting to discuss the case.

“One of our citizens was assassinated today because he was teaching, because he was teaching pupils freedom of expression,” Macron said.

The teacher had received threats after opening a discussion “for a debate” about the caricatures about 10 days ago, the police official said.

He had shown pupils in his class cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which are considered by Muslims to be blasphemous, according to a police source.

The attack took place in the street in front of the middle school where the victim worked.

French anti-terror prosecutors said they were treating the assault as “a murder linked to a terrorist organisation” and related to a “criminal association with terrorists”.

The parent of a student had filed a complaint against the teacher, another police official said, adding the suspected killer did not have a child at the school. The suspect’s identity was not made public.

Police on Twitter advised the public to avoid the area. President Emmanuel Macron arrived at the scene on Friday evening.

The mayor of Eragny, Thibault Humbert, praised “the speed with which police neutralised the individual” on Twitter.

French Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin said he had set up a crisis centre to deal with Friday’s attack.
