Authorities in England discovered cocaine worth about $8.4 million hidden inside a truck transporting clothing for Skims, the fashion company owned by Kim Kardashian.
According to the National Crime Agency, truck driver Jakub Jan Konkel was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison after admitting his role in the smuggling operation.
Border officers stopped Konkel at the Port of Harwich last September when he arrived from the Netherlands carrying 28 pallets of Skims clothing. After scanning the truck, officers uncovered 90 packages of cocaine weighing about 198 pounds hidden in a secret compartment inside the vehicle’s rear doors.
Investigators said the Skims clothing shipment itself was completely legitimate, and neither the clothing company nor the businesses involved in transporting the products had any connection to the drug operation.
Konkel first denied knowing about the drugs but later admitted he agreed to transport them in exchange for about 4,500 euros.
Officials praised the seizure, saying it prevented criminal groups from making millions of dollars and helped keep dangerous drugs off the streets.
