Nigerian Troops finally confirms death of ISWAP leader, Abu Musab Al-Barnawi

The Nigerian military has finally confirmed the death of vicious Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Abu Musab Al-Barnawi.

Tori Me reported in September that Al-Barnawi who is the son of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf who was also killed by security forces in 2009, was killed in Borno state.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor confirmed his death on Thursday October 14, during the ministerial briefing organised by the presidential communications team at the Presidential Villa , Abuja.

Irabor said;

“I can authoritatively confirm to you that Abu Musab is dead. As simple as that. He is dead and remains dead.”

Al-Barnawi was announced as the leader of Islamic State (IS) militant group’s West African affiliate, Boko Haram in 2016.

Prior to this, late Abubakar Shekau was Boko Haram’s leader following the death of Al-Barnawi’s father. His dislodgement in 2016 heralded the rise of the relatively young Al-Barnawi as ISWAP leader and at the same time, the split of the terrorist group into two factions.

Al-Barnawi who was reportedly trained by ISIS for years ahead of his ascension to power, was also said to have been chosen as leader of the group to punish Shekau who reportedly “violated all known norms” and to also retain the confidence of Boko Haram fighters who were loyal to his father, Yusuf, amid threats from other factional groups.

Al-Barnawi sustained vicious attacks especially on military facilities and troops in the Lake Chad region, plotted on how to subdue Shekau, controlled large swathes of territory in Northern Borno, imposed taxes on the local population and earned income from fishing asides from the financial and material support he got from ISIS.

He also established many cells on the Lake Chad islands and surrounding villages from where his fighters launched attacks on Nigeria, Niger and Chad. The late ISWAP was also the person who confirmed Shekau’s death in an audio tape which went viral months ago.

Kenya: Husband accused of killing his wife for saying ‘he wasn’t good enough’ after they had sex

A Kenyan man, Stephen Nyangeri Mauti, was charged with manslaughter for allegedly killing his wife, Faith Nyatichi, after she told him he was not good enough when they had sex.

The incident, according to k24tv, occurred at Kangemi dumpsite within Kangemi sub-county, Nairobi county on October 3, 2021.

According to a cover report produced in court on Friday, October 14, the deceased visited the accused in Kangemi Hill view area where they have rented a house after relocating from Nyeri where they were staying as a couple since August 2021.

It is alleged that the deceased left her husband to go visit her ‘cousin’ in Kiserian and after a while, he called her to know when she would be back only for her to inform him she had travelled to the village.

“On further inquires, the accused was informed that his wife has no relatives in Kiserian and that she had not travelled to the rural area” the report read in part.

The accused claimed he asked his wife’s brother who informed him that they do not have a cousin in Kiserian

It is alleged that on October 1, 2021, the accused received a call from his wife promising to visit him since he was unwell.

True to her promise, she visited. On arrival, she prepared lunch which they took together, then went for a leisure walk within Kangemi market and later returned to their home. The deceased prepared supper which they ate and went to bed.

According to the police report, they had a conversation but did not reach an agreement since the deceased kept crying so they had sex and slept.

On October 3, 2021, they woke up and the deceased prepared breakfast. As they were taking tea, the accused is alleged to have convinced her not to leave him for another man.

The accused in his statement stated that after the breakfast he confronted her with the truth that she was living with another man. He says the woman then started shouting at him that he is not man enough after the night experience.

The accused told the police that he grabbed her and tried to calm her by blocking her mouth to no avail.

He says he thought she had calmed down when she went silent only to realise she was unconscious. He called neighbours to rush her to hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate, Bernard Ochoi has ordered a mental examination to be carried out on the accused person in order to ascertain his mental status before sentencing him on October 17, 2021.

Snapchat fight: Teen Boy shoots and wounds Snapchat rival in Bronx

A 13-year-old boy shot at another young boy his age over a Snapchat fight.

The two boys had been fighting by sending messages to each other on SnapChat. Then, on Oct. 6 the suspect sent a message threatening to shoot the victim, police said.

The next day, the argument moved from online messages to the street, with the teen allegedly shooting the victim in the left knee inside Hunts Point Playground about 5:35 p.m., police said.

The boy was arrested after his mother saw a wanted poster for her son and dragged him into a Bronx NYPD stationhouse, police said Wednesday, October 13.

EMS took the victim to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.

“It went in and it came out, so that’s good,” the victim’s mother, Suleykie Rivera, said. “They caught it in time, they called 911 in time. He was really lucky. If the bullet would have went in and stayed that would have been tragic.”

The boy was still recovering in Harlem Hospital on Wednesday. He had also tested positive for COVID-19, the mother said.

Rivera, 33, said she didn’t know the shooter or anything about the Snapchat feud.

“Social media is really a bad thing for these kids. They shouldn’t even have social media,” she said.

She learned of the shooting from one of her son’s friends.

“I was just shocked,” she said. “I couldn’t think, I couldn’t feel, nothing, you know. He’s 13!”

After the shooting, the teen shooter ran off but was captured on surveillance video, gun in hand. A second suspect, still being sought, also appears on the video, clad in a red sweatshirt and riding his bike behind the shooter, police said.

Cops released the video Sunday, October 10, and asked the public’s help tracking down the suspect, known to police by his nickname Chulo.

The suspected shooter’s mother, who declined comment, saw a wanted poster with her son’s image, took him to the 41st Precinct stationhouse Tuesday afternoon and asked for a lawyer, police said.

The teen was charged with attempted murder, assault and harassment. His name was not released because he is a minor.

“You just shake your head,” NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said on PIX11 Wednesday morning. “It’s terrible all the way around. We have to do better as a society.”

Shea said that the NYPD has been trying to get to children “before they get into the violence” but more needs to be done.

“What do you do with a 13-year-old in this circumstance?” Shea asked. “There is no right answer. The courts will figure it out and you hope. You feel for the victim, but you also think about the side of the family of the child that pulled the trigger here. There are no winners.”

Local parents said the suspect and his crew have slashed tires of cars, thrown beer bottles at mothers and scared little kids with threatening looks. One of the menacing boys has a black dog that he sets on smaller kids, they said.

“Last year, they stole my son’s bike,” a local mother said. “I called the police and they never came.”

She said parents have to take more responsibility.

“These boys have been making this a violent area,” she said, adding that one of the boys punched her son in the stomach during the robbery.

“These young boys know that the police will never come,” she said. “It’s a huge problem. And as an adult, I can’t do anything against minors.”

“The devil tempted me to rape the teenager girl” – Suspect tells Police

A 42-year-old man, Joel Jacob, who is being remanded in a Jos Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl, claims that the devil tempted him to rape the minor.

According to the police, the victim, who is a friend of the defendant’s daughter, was reportedly defiled by the defendant when she went to see her friend.

The police prosecutor, L.P Fombot, told the court that the minor had visited the accused’s home to see her friend, but did not meet her at home. Fombot said the victim, however, met the accused at home alone who allegedly dragged her into his room, threatened her with a knife, and had carnal knowledge of her.

She alleged that the accused threatened her on several occasions, raping her repeatedly.

The prosecutor said luck, however, ran out on him when he took the minor to the bush to have carnal knowledge of her but was spotted by her school teacher.

The famous Banksy painting ”Love is in the Bin” sold for $25M

The famous Banksy painting ”Love is in the Bin” which got shredded after someone bought it for $1.4 million, has been sold at a record price at an auction.

Originally titled “Girl with a Balloon” (2006), Banksy rechristened the work after the 2018 Sotheby’s sale, when a remote-operated shredder inside the frame began slicing the painting as soon as the hammer came down. The motor malfunctioned halfway through, leaving strips of limp canvas hanging out like a print job gone horribly wrong.

The anonymous British street artist, known for his disdain of the art market, claimed he had played a prank on the auction house, though some speculated Sotheby’s was in on the joke all along.

During Thursday’s sale at Sotheby, the fringed painting suffered no further damage, but the slam of the gavel elicited gasps and applause from the crowd nonetheless. Confirming suspicions that the piece’s unconventional backstory would only increase its value, “Love is in the Bin” fetched £18,582,000 (~$25,424,356), a significant multiple of the £953,829 (~$1,251,423) it had originally sold for. According to the Wall Street Journal, at least nine aspiring buyers competed for the lot, eventually outdone by a phone bidder with Sotheby’s director of private sales in Asia, Nick Wood.

The canvas painting depicts a small child reaching up towards a heart-shaped red balloon, an image that was originally stencilled on a wall in east London in 2002. It has become one of Banksy’s best-known images and has been reproduced millions of times.

Teen boy jailed for 9 years for stabbing college girl to death and stealing her phone

A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to the maximum nine years to life in prison after he was convicted in the stabbing to death of college student, Tessa Majors.

Luchiano Lewis, who was one of three teens charged in the 2019 murder, was sentenced in Manhattan criminal court on Thursday. He pleaded guilty last month to murder and robbery.

Teen boy, 16, gets 9-years to life for stabbing college girl to death in phone robbery

At the time, Lewis was 14 years old and prosecutors at the Manhattan district attorney’s office decided he would be charged as an adult.

The devastated family of Tessa, 18, described the family’s ‘immeasurable pain’ in court.

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bogdanos read a statement on behalf of Inman Majors, Tessa’s father: ‘On December 11, 2019, the hopes and dreams for our daughter Tess came to a tragic end.

‘Nearly two years later, we still find words inadequate to describe the immeasurable pain, trauma, and suffering that our family has endured since her senseless murder.

‘Tess was a brilliant student, a voracious reader, a poet and a fledgling journalist. She had big dreams.’

Tessa, who was from Charlottesville, Virginia, was finishing her first semester at Barnard College in Manhattan, when she cut through Morningside Park before 8 pm that night.

As she approached the stairs to exit at West 116th Street, police say the group of teens including Lewis, 16-year-old Rashan Weaver, and an unnamed 13-year-old, tried to rob her and take her phone, ABC 7 reported.

The teens stabbed her multiple times. In her final moments of life, a security camera caught her struggling up a flight of stairs dripping in blood. When she reached the street she collapsed against a lamppost, where she died minutes later.

The video of her death was played in the court room, along with a joint impact statement from her parents Inman and Christy Majors.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Robert Mandelbaum said her murder ‘tore at the fabric of the entire city’.

‘The defendant was and is extremely young. He has his whole life ahead of him but Tessa Majors does not,’ the judge said.

Lewis told the court he felt ashamed, embarrassed and ‘sad in the role I played destroying two families’.

He apologized to both Tessa’s parents and his own father, saying he failed him and ‘became less human’.

Mandelbaum was skeptical, saying ‘sadly and troublingly, the defendant has learned no lessons’.

Lewis has been involved in numerous ‘violent acts’ while incarcerated, the judge said. He had beaten another inmate with a piece of metal wrapped in a sock.

He was also sentenced to 40 months to 12 years on the robbery count. It is unclear if the sentences will be served concurrently or consecutively, the Daily Mail reported.

Police and prosecutors have said Weaver was the one with the knife, but that Lewis was equally to blame. Weaver pleaded not guilty last month, and his trial date is expected to be set early next week.

Lewis may not have used the knife, but ‘was not just along for the ride’, prosecutor Matthew Bogdanos said.

‘He’s alive, and, because of him, she is not.’

Deontay Wilder finally speaks

Deontay Wilder has finally broken his silence after losing to Tyson Fury following their WBC heavyweight title showdown in Las Vegas over the weekend.

The 35-year-old was stopped in the 11th round after twice knocking down Fury. Following the defeat, Wilder had initially refused to congratulate his rival’s triumph, saying he had no respect for the British heavyweight.

Wilder, however, has now come out to acknowledge the outcome of the fight and vowed to return to the ring a stronger person.

‘Wow, what a hell of a night!’ Wilder wrote on social media.

‘I would like to first and foremost thank God for allowing me to give the world another part of me that’s driven with passion and determination.

‘I would like to thank my team and my fans for sticking by my side through this long process.

‘I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed in the outcome, but after reflecting on my journey, I now see that what God wanted me to experience is far greater than what I expected to happen.

‘We didn’t get the win, but a wise man once said the victories are within the lessons. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to lose to win.

‘Although, I wanted the win I enjoyed seeing the fans win even more. Hopefully, I proved that I am a true Warrior and a true King in this sport.

‘Hopefully, we proved that no matter how hard you get hit with trials and tribulations you can always pick yourself up to live and fight again for what you believe in.

‘Last but not least I would like to congratulate @gypsyking101 for his victory and thank you for the great historical memories that will last forever.’

“Why I snubbed Manchester United for Chelsea” – Mikel Obi recounts

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has finally revealed why he snubbed Manchester United and signed for Chelsea in 2006.

Mikel, who spent 11 trophy-laden years at Stamford Bridge after signing from Norwegian club, Lyn Oslo, disclosed that he joined Cheslea because the futures of three other Nigerian players were tied to the deal.

Before his move to Chelsea, the midfieder first had an agreement in principle with Chelsea, but was tricked into penning a deal with Manchester United and had even spoken to Sir Alex Ferguson on the phone.

This led to a legal battle between Lyn Oslo, Man Utd and Chelsea, while FIFA also intervened.

At the end, Mikel  eventually signed for Chelsea, who paid a compensation fee of £12m to Manchester United and £4m to Lyn.

During that period, three of Mikel Obi’s teammates at U-20 level, Chinedu Obasi, Emmanuel Sarki and Ezekiel Bala, were also undergoing trials at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel Obi, who currently plays for Kuwait SC,  told The Athletic: “When I chose Chelsea, it wasn’t just my life that changed.

“There were four lives that changed. Why? Because if I didn’t, Chelsea might not have anything to do with my three friends. I was close to them. I knew their families.

“I didn’t just make the decision for myself. I thought about them, I thought about their families. This gave them more of a chance.”

Supreme Court rules Oye as National Chairman and Soludo as APGA’s Anambra governorship candidate

The Supreme court has affirmed the candidacy of Professor Chukwuma Soludo as the Governorship candidate of APGA in Anambra governorship election come 6th November 2021.

This comes after over two hours of fierce legal battle by lawyers on Thursday, October 14, in Abuja.

The apex court also upheld the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Kano Division delivered on August 10, which had affirmed Chief Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and validated the primary election that produced Soludo.

In a judgment of a five-man panel of justices of the court, the appeal filed by one Jude Okeke was dismissed on the ground of being an abuse of court process.

Justice Mary Peter Odili, who delivered the lead judgment, awarded a sum of N1 million to be paid by Jude Okeke to APGA and Victor Oye.

Recall that the Victor Oye faction of the APGA conducted the primary that produced Prof Charles Soludo, as its governorship candidate in the forthcoming November 6, election in Anambra state.

According to the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, Kano Division, was right when it quashed a Jigawa State High Court judgement that recognised a parallel primary election that was conducted by the Jude Okeke-led faction of APGA.

Elderly woman tried to cut off her husband’s p*nis before killing him

A 66 year old woman, threatened to chop off her husband’s penis before stabbing him to death following an argument over Zoom video calling app, then wrote a confession as she waited for police to arrive, a court has heard.

Penelope Jackson, stabbed David – a retired lieutenant colonel and her husband of 24 years in the kitchen of their bungalow in Berrow, Somerset, UK on February 13, 2021.

Jackson managed to call the police before losing consciousness, but the defendant took the phone from him and refused to follow the operator’s instructions to help him.

On the second day of Jackson’s murder trial at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, October 12, the jury heard that the 78-year-old victim had been Jackson’s fourth husband, and she his third wife.

Woman tried to chop off her?husband

Sheila Taylor, Jackson’s second wife, told the court her marriage to the victim had ended when he began an affair with the defendant in 1993.

Woman tried to chop off her?husband

Taylor told the court the victim hadn’t another affair while with the defendant. She said Penelope learnt of the affair when Jackson rang their home and demanded to speak to her husband.

She said he had been ‘white and shaking’ when he came off the call, adding: ‘He told me he had been having an affair with a woman called Penny but the relationship was now over.

‘(Jackson) didn’t want the relationship to be over and she was insisting he tell me about it and go and live with her.’

Taylor said after the defendant’s divorce from the victim had been finalised, he had told her Jackson had threatened to ‘do a Bobbit on him’ if he ever tried to leave her – reference to a high profile case in the US at around the same time where a wife had cut off her husband’s penis.

Taylor said: ‘He was very frightened. He honestly believed she was capable of carrying out that threat.’

She said that she believed her former husband ‘was afraid of Penelope’.

‘He was frightened she would destroy his army career and destroy his reputation and there’s no doubt in my mind she was capable of doing that,’ Ms Taylor added.

Mr Jackson’s daughter from his first marriage, Jane Calverley said she had never seen the couple show violence towards one another, but said the defendant had liked making people feel uncomfortable.

‘It always felt as if he was on edge, my father was very particular, he didn’t like to be shown up, when we were children we were always told to behave properly because he didn’t like to be the centre of attention,’ she said.

‘When he was with the defendant he always seemed like he was on edge.’

Ms Calverley continued: ‘I always felt everything had to revolve around Jackson, she was a very larger than life character, she would enjoy making people uncomfortable.’

She said Jackson had ‘enjoyed finding people’s sore spots and poking them’.

‘It’s hard to describe how (Jackson and the victim) interacted. It never felt comfortable.’

‘I never saw them argue, (Jackson) would just bait (the victim) – it wouldn’t result in an argument necessarily,’ she said.

She also told the jury how she stayed with Jackson and her father when she was having trouble in her marriage.

Ms Calverley said Jackson told her: ‘It’s much easier if your husband kills himself.’

The jury heard that Jackson’s third husband had taken his own life a few days after he learned of her affair with the victim.

The note read: ‘To whom it may concern, I have taken so much abuse over the years – look at my records.’

It continued: ‘But he was a good Daddy. However the mask slipped tonight. That was unforgiveable.

‘I accept my punishment, may he rot in hell.’

Jackson had apologised for her spelling in the note, and added a comment in one corner that appeared to read ‘self-defence’.

In the 18-minute call to emergency services after stabbing her husband, Jackson repeatedly acknowledged what she had done.

She then apologised for officers for ‘being a nuisance’.

The defendant continued: ‘Remorse is easy, it’s been a long time coming – I did it, I’m guilty.

‘If I was given the chance, I’d do it again, even if they locked me up for 125 million years it would still be worth it.’

Jackson added: ‘I should have walked away years ago but you don’t, I deserve everything that is coming my way because you shouldn’t do what I did.

Prosecuting, Christopher Quinlan QC said she was told the allegation had been upgraded to murder when she arrived at the police station.

He said she replied: ‘Oh murder, not attempted murder? Oh, good.’

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho diagnosed with kidney/lungs disease in Beninise prison – Lawyer says

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, has been reportedly diagnosed with possible kidney or lungs illness.

One of his lawyers, Yomi Aliyyu, who disclosed this in an interview with BBC Yoruba, said Igboho developed the illness in Benin Republic prison custody. According to him, the agitator has also been critically ill and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Recall that Igboho’s home in Ibadan was raided by security agents on July 1, 2021. While Igboho escaped, 12 of his aides were arrested and later arraigned in court.

Igboho was later arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, on July 16, 2021, with his wife, while attempting to travel to Germany and has since then been in detention.

Speaking during the interview, Aliyyu said

“Igboho was not diagnosed with this sickness before he was arrested in Cotonou. It was so critical that they had to rush him to the hospital.

I can’t tell if he has been returned to the prison from the hospital but what I know is, he’s battling ill health and it seems his kidney and lungs are already being affected.55

Even though I cannot tell which part of his body the sickness has really affected, I know it has to do with his internal organs.”

Sources in the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, confirmed the development.

“Yes, he is ill and his kidney appears affected. We are not very sure yet. Another test result is expected for confirmation. We are working on that and I can assure you that he is in safe hands,” one of the sources said.

Facebook set protect celebrities and other public figures

Facebook has announced that it would start removing “severe sexualizing content” targeting public figures as part of a new update to its bullying and harassment policies.

As part of this new policy update, Facebook said on Wednesday that it would remove any profiles, pages, groups, or events dedicated to sexualizing public figures, including celebrities, politicians, and content creators. The new policy bans sexualized photoshops and drawings and any degrading content “in the process of bodily functions,” Antigone Davis, global head of safety at Facebook, said in a blog post on Wednesday.

Facebook also said that it would remove “unwanted sexualized commentary” and repetitive attacks harassing an individual sexually.

The policy changes also include coordinated harassment attacks against users.

“Public figures  whether they’re politicians, journalists, celebrities or creators  use Facebook and Instagram to engage directly with their followers,” Davis wrote in the Wednesday blog post. “We made these changes because attacks like these can weaponize a public figure’s appearance, which is unnecessary and often not related to the work these public figures represent.”

The announcement comes after whistleblower Frances Haugen testified before Congress last week. The hearing focused on a series of reports from the Wall Street Journal that revealed Facebook executives were aware of the harms its platform could inflict on users, especially teenagers. Haugen is expected to testify before the UK Parliament later this month.

David Brooks, Bournemouth’s midfielder, diagnosed with cancer

Bournemouth midfielder, David Brooks has been diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin Lymphoma.

The 24-year-old Wales international left international duty last week for medical examination.  it has now been confirmed that he has Stage II Hodgkin Lymphoma, an uncommon form of cancer.

Brooks, who has registered 21 caps for his country since his debut in 2017, will undergo treatment next week after an initial positive prognosis.

He said in a message on the club’s website: ‘This is a very difficult message for me to write.

‘I have been diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin Lymphoma and will begin a course of treatment next week.

‘I’d like to show my appreciation to the doctors, nurses, consultants and staff who have been treating me for their professionalism, warmth and understanding during this period.

‘I want to thank everyone at the Football Association of Wales because without the swift attention of their medical team we may not have detected the illness. I’d also like to say thank you to AFC Bournemouth for all their support and assistance this past week.

‘Although I appreciate that there will be media attention and interest, I would like to ask that my privacy is respected in the coming months and I will share updates on my progress when I am able to do so.

‘In the meantime, thank you to everyone for their messages of support – it means so much and will continue to do so in the months ahead.

‘I look forward to seeing you all again and playing the sport I love very soon.’

Bournemouth CEO Neill Blake said: ‘Everyone at AFC Bournemouth will do everything possible to help support David and his family during his recovery.

‘We’re not putting any timescales on his return; we will give David all the time he needs to get well and will do everything that we possibly can to help with that.

‘I know everyone will be keen to show their love and support for David which will help him immensely as he recovers, but we also urge you all to respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.’

Brooks has made 91 appearances for the Cherries, scoring 18 goals, since moving from Sheffield United in 2018 for £11.5m.

EU and US will be flooded with economic refugees if Afghanistan sanctions continue – Taliban warns

Afghanistan’s new Taliban government has warned US and European envoys that the ongoing sanctions will jeopardize security and could trigger a wave of economic refugees.

In a statement published late Tuesday, October 13, acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi told Western diplomats at talks in Doha that “weakening the Afghan government is not in the interest of anyone because its negative effects will directly affect the world in (the) security sector and economic migration from the country.”

The Taliban overthrew Afghanistan’s former US-backed government in August after a two-decade-long conflict. But efforts to stabilise the country, still facing attacks from rival extremist group the Islamic State-Khorasan, have been undermined by international sanctions: banks are running out of cash and civil servants are going unpaid.

According to the statement from his spokesman, Muttaqi told the Doha meeting: “We urge world countries to end existing sanctions and let banks operate normally so that charity groups, organisations and the government can pay salaries to their staff with their own reserves and international financial assistance.”

European countries are concerned that if the Afghan economy collapses, large numbers of migrants will set off for the continent, piling pressure on neighbouring states such as Pakistan and Iran and eventually on EU borders.

Washington and the EU have said they are ready to back humanitarian initiatives in Afghanistan, but are wary of providing direct support to the Taliban without guarantees it will respect human rights, in particular women’s rights.

’41-year old Pregnant teacher, arrested after ‘making s3x tape’ with teenage student’

A pregnant Miami teacher has been arrested for having an affair with a 15-year-old student and making a sex tape with the student.

Teacher Heiry Calvi, 41, was arrested on Thursday, October 7. She was released from jail on Saturday, October 9, after posting bail.

She is accused of having sex with the 15-year-old boy last year and earlier this year, after “growing close” to him at the John I. Smith K-8 Center in Miami.

Pregnant teacher, 41, arrested after

She allegedly sent him explicit photos over WhatsApp and he is said to have shown other kids videos of them having sex, which prompted a police investigation.

Police say Calvi also gave the boy one of her credit cards and that the pair attended parties together, but told other guests they were aunt and nephew.

Police first became aware of the allegations in March this year.

It’s unclear if Calvi is married, or if she is believed to be carrying the teenage boy’s baby. She was seen holding her stomach as she left jail on Saturday.

Pregnant teacher, 41, arrested after

Despite the boy boasting about the encounter, police say Calvi must now face charges because the boy isn’t old enough to give consent.

“A child does not have the legal authority to give consent even though the child may say ‘this is OK’.

“The responsibility is on the adult,” Rey Valdes, a Doral Police Department spokesman said. The age of consent in Florida is 18.

Police say the teenager has refused to help with their inquiries.

Rey Valdes, police spokesman, said: “When we spoke to him, he denied being a victim. He flat out told us he was not raped. But I want to point out under Florida law, a minor cannot give consent.”

Pregnant teacher, 41, arrested after

As part of their investigation, the police seized the teenage boy’s phone and found the photos she had sent him over WhatsApp.

Other school friends were quizzed by the cops, and they allegedly told investigators that they had seen sex tape images on the student’s phone said to be of the teacher with the teenager.

The police spokesman confirmed the teacher is eight months pregnant, but added: “I’m not going to speculate as to whose child it is.”

Pregnant teacher, 41, arrested after

Calvi has been charged with lewd and lascivious battery; electronic transmission harmful to minors; unlawful use of a communications device; child neglect; offenses against students by authority figures; contributing to delinquency and possession of a firearm on school property.

It’s unclear when she will return to court.

Senate suddenly adopts electronic transmission of election results

Senate Prsident tells Buhari to address Nigerians

The Senate has bowed to public pressure as it adopted the electronic transfer of election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Senate on Tuesday, October 12, made a U-turn on the recently-passed Electoral Amendment Bill, wherein it had earlier rejected plans by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transmit results of elections electronically.

The decision of the Senate followed the re-committal of some clauses of the Electoral Act 2010 to the Committee of the Whole.

The Senate, at the Committee of the Whole chaired by Dr Ahmad Lawan, amended Clause 52(2) of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill to read: “Subject to section 63 of this Bill, voting at an election and transmission of results under this Bill shall be in accordance with the procedure determined by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which may include electronic voting.”

Clause 87(1) of the Electoral Amendment Bill, which was also passed as recommended states: ‘A political party seeking to nominate candidates for elections under this Bill shall hold direct primaries for aspirants to all elective positions, which shall be monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.”

In July, the Senate rejected its Committee’s report, which had approved electronic transmission of results by INEC. The House of Representatives, however, approved it.

Barely three months after it adopted a resolution rejecting electronic transmission of results in the Electoral Act 2016 (Amendment) Bill, 2021, the Senate bowed to pressure in a face-saving move

Man stung and killed by bees while having s3x with a married woman

A man from Kwaramba Village in Gokwe town of Zimbabwe, was reportedly attacked by a swarm of bees while having sexual intercourse with a married woman.

Jethro Maimba was reportedly having sex with Lizzie Maphosa in the bush when the incident occurred.

Maphosa’s husband, Joseph Musariri was said to have on several times warned Maimba to stop the illicit affair. He then allegedly cast a spell on his wife thereafter.

A villager privy to the incident told to B-Metro that the bees only stopped attacking Maimba after he pleaded for forgiveness from Musariri.

The villager said;

We suspected that the stinging was a result of juju after some of the bees were left covering his private parts for about two days.

The bees only disappeared after Maimba asked for forgiveness from Musariri. This was also after he had promised to pay him two beasts.

It was further learnt that Musariri and Maimba also agreed to approach Chief Nemangwe’s traditional court, so they can solve their issue amicably.

Contacted for comment, Chief Nemangwe could neither confirm nor deny the shocking incident. He said:

The matter has not yet been brought to my attention. Maybe the parties decided to solve it on their own.

Matters of that nature are usually brought to my attention after the parties would have failed to agree on any terms or conditions.

Unknown Gunmen Attack Enugu Police Station, Abduct Female Officer

Unknown gunmen have abducted a police officer after an attack on the Police Divisional Headquarters, Umulokpa, in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Tori Me! gathered that the gunmen attacked the police station on Saturday evening and kidnapped a female officer who was on duty at the time of the incident.

A resident of the area told Vanguard that the gunmen stormed the facility and started shooting sporadically, leaving the policemen to scamper for safety.

The resident said though no life was lost, the hoodlums carted away firearms from the armoury compartment of the police station.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, said the command has intensified efforts to locate the abducted female cop.

In a statement on Monday, the State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, directed that the perpetrators be arrested and prosecuted.

Ndukwe added that the Commissioner of Police has equally ordered a full-scale investigation into the attack.

Part of the statement reads “The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Abubakar Lawal, has ordered the State CID and tactical teams of the Command to intensify ongoing investigative efforts to locate missing female personnel and fish out the yet-to-be-identified hoodlums, who in their numbers attacked and vandalized vehicles and other items at Umulokpa Police Divisional Headquarters in Uzo-Uwani LGA, in the evening hours of 09/10/2021.

‘We are silently working on Nnamdi Kanu’s release’ – Ike Ekweremadu assures

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has called on Igbo in the diaspora to offer their strong voice against violent agitations while stating that he is working towards the release of Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

Ekweremadu’s statement comes almost three months after Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested in Kenya and clandestinely brought to Nigeria by Nigeria’s Secret Police, the DSS .

Ekweremadu, in a statement on, signed by his media adviser, Uche Anichukwu, gave assurances that the South East Caucus of the National Assembly, where he is leader was actively working towards defusing tension in the south east and blamed the agitations by various parts of the country on a flawed federal system, injustice, poor management of the nation’s diversity, failure of the federal government to secure lives and property, and needless clampdown on self-determination agitators when dialogue and giving agitators a sense of belonging would have worked.

In a lecture entitled: “The Igbo in Diaspora: A Perspective” that he delivered virtually at the Igbo Heritage Lectures and Ugwumba Excellence Award event, which held in Pretoria, South Africa, Sunday evening, October 10, Ekweremadu said;

“The injustices and marginalisations are palpable and must be addressed. But by all means, we must ensure the stability of Igbo land because only by so doing can Alaigbo (Igbo land) prosper economically and also elicit local and international support and sympathy over their plights.

“What has happened in Alaigbo in the past few months is odd, ‘un-Igbo’, and sacrilegious. Destruction, waste of human lives, and economic losses have been the lot of our region. In particular, the sit-at-home has hemorrhaged Igbo lives and economy and it is good the IPOB has said they are no longer interested in the sit-at-home. No wise man brings war into his home. Our people prosper on industry, commerce, and the informal sector. Most of them survive on daily income.

“Therefore, while we are at liberty to employ every legitimate and democratic means to press for justice and equity, we must all work together to condemn and end the violence, irrespective of whatever quarters it is coming from.

“This is a special appeal to Ndigbo in South Africa, in particular, to wade into the orgy of violence in Igboland and help to restore normalcy. Ndigbo at home expect the Igbo in diaspora to lead the campaign against violent agitations and insecurity in our region because threats to Igbo businesses, the peace, security, and stability of the South-East are threats to our very existence as Ndigbo,” he stated.

He said: “As the intellectual bank of Ndigbo with extensive exposure to liberal and progressive democratic ideals, and access to international resources, the Igbo in diaspora are well positioned to elevate the intellectual content of the Igbo struggle for justice and equity.

“How best can we address the issues of exclusion, imbalances, detention of many Igbo sons and daughters in various correctional centres across the country, the issues of clampdown on unarmed protesters, and the challenge of extra-judicial killings in Igbo land without recourse to violent agitations?”

On Nnamdi Kanu, Ekweremadu said: “Let me also assure you that the South East Caucus of the National Assembly is not resting on its oars. We are working quietly and surely to address these issues, including finding a political solution to the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu matter.

“We did it before in the case of Chief Raph Uwazuruike in 2007. We also did it in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in 2017. And God willing, and with your support and prayers, we will succeed again in the matter of Nnamdi kanu to promote peace and stability in our region.”

Taliban: Afghan refugees holed up in UK hotels wants to go back to Afghanistan

Afghans recently resettled in Britain, after the Taliban overthrew the Afghan government, have begged to be allowed to return to their country.

A shortage of available permanent homes meant thousands of those Afghans who fought alongside British forces or fled in fear of their lives have been put up in hotels.

Late last month the Home Office permanent secretary Matthew Rycroft said 7,000 Afghans were in emergency accommodation, and many would remain there into the New Year.

The resettlement scheme, tagged Operation Warm Welcome, launched on August 29 to resettle Afghans in Britain.

However, a doctor said he’s had “a few patients telling me they want to go home” already.

He told the Guardian: “I had to put him on medication, and his wife, because they were so upset.”

The delivery of the scheme intended to help Afghans rebuild their lives in the UK has come under criticism from numerous angles.

Concerns have been raised about refugees’ access to healthcare and getting registered with a local GP.

The Helen Bamber Foundation said contractors at some of the hotels were unaware of their obligation to get them signed up.

The charity’s lead doctor Jill O’Leary said the Home Office had a “blind spot when it comes to vulnerability”.

Health charity Medcat also expressed concerns with the provisions for “destitute” asylum seekers.

A spokesperson said: “Arrangements by the Home Office and its contractors to house those waiting in interim publicly funded accommodation are medically dangerous.”

In Greenwich, London, the council said nearly 700 Afghans have been resettled locally and slammed the “reprehensible” lack of clarity about what would happen to them once their quarantine period ended.

Deputy leader Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald said on September 9: “Having been through hell, the government continues to fail Afghan refugees.

“These are people who have experienced unimaginable trauma, sleepless nights, and fear for their family members back home.

“They now have the additional worry of not knowing where they will be sent next. The lack of basic leadership from the government is putting people’s lives at risk.”

A spokesperson for the Home Office said: “The UK’s biggest and fastest emergency evacuation in recent history helped over 15,000 people to safety, and hotels remain a temporary measure to help accommodate those we brought here.

“It is going to take time to find permanent homes for everyone but we are working urgently with our partners to do so.

“Our aim is to support everyone who is resettled here to build a successful life in the UK, and that is why we work around the clock to provide wrap-around support to families. This includes working closely with local authorities across the UK to ensure everyone temporarily accommodated in hotels has access to essential provisions, healthcare, education and universal credit.”

Germany qualifes for 2022 World Cup in Qatar after 4-0 win over North Macedonia

Germany are the first European nation to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after their 4 – 0 win against North Macedonia 4-0 on Monday night, October 11, to secure top spot in Group J with two games to spare.

A second-half double by Timo Werner and one goal each from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala secured Germany’s fifth win in their fifth game under new coach Hansi Flick. They currently have 21 points, with Romania in second place on 13.

All group winners in European qualification automatically secure a place at the tournament in Qatar.

‘From the result it was perfect. We got what we wanted, qualified as quickly as possible and we now have five wins in a row,’ Flick, who succeeded Joachim Low earlier this year, said.

‘Again the attitude was right. Compliments to the team. They did not ease off. The first half was a bit wild and we lacked a bit of precision. But we kept at it. We can be satisfied.’

2 persons dead as plane crashes into UPS truck in US

A plane crashed into a UPS truck a few blocks from a high school in the San Diego, California area, killing at least two people.

The two-engine aircraft had been told by an air traffic controller to gain altitude just before it crashed into the truck and two houses on Monday, October 11.

An explosion from the impact killed the driver and injured two other people, who were hospitalized. Their injuries were not immediately confirmed, but local reports said they suffered burns.

Officials in the hours after the crash did not know how many people were aboard the small plane but said they think the injuries were “non-survivable”, said Santee Fire Department Battalion Chief Justin Matsushita, according to FOX 5.

“We do have multiple confirmed fatalities, we do not know exactly how many,” said Justin Matsushita, deputy fire chief for the city of Santee, in a briefing for reporters. “We do know there are at least two confirmed.”

Matsushita said emergency responders are searching for casualties as they determine the extent of damage to homes.

“Not to be too graphic, but it’s a pretty brutal scene for our guys, and we’re trying to comb through it,” he said.

Images from the scene showed plumes of smoke billowing into the air near Santana High School, which is located about 20 miles northeast of San Diego at 9915 North Magnolia Avenue.

China blocks WHO access to hundreds of wildlife breeding farms and bat caves as part of Covid-19 outbreak investigation

China is reportedly denying the World Health Organisation access to hundreds of bat caves and wildlife breeding farms in the nation’s Hubei province near Wuhan which could hold clues to determining the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Washington Post, scientists want to visit a series of caves and wildlife farming areas in the Enshi prefecture of Hubei province, six hours west of the city where Covid-19 was first reported.

But Chinese officials are refusing to give the WHO access to carry out their research.

Beijing has continually denied suggestions that COVID-19 first emerged in Chinese wet markets or was the result of lab leak, saying that it originated elsewhere.

The wildlife farms have been a source of interest after emerged that several wet markets where animals from the farms were being sold were banned from selling live animals in December 2019.

Professor Michael Worobey from the University of Arizona said: “We really need to find out more about what viruses are circulating in those bats.”

He added: “That kind of proximity of farmed animals and bats that could be carrying coronaviruses is exactly the kind of thing we worry about.”

Reporters in China claim six wet markets in Enshi had closed by March 2020, just before COVID-19 swept across the world.

Markets started to close in the city on December 23 in 2019, just eight days before Beijing first recorded the virus.

A chicken vendor who worked at a market in Enshi city said: “The rules are really strict now, so you don’t see any more wild animals.

Lagos State Police warns the Public against #EndSARS anniversary protest

The Lagos state police command has warned residents in the state against staging any protest to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS protest in the state.

Last October, youths across Nigeria took to the streets to demand an end to police brutality. The protest took a violent turn after it was hijacked by thugs.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the state police command says credible intelligence at its disposal indicates that some youths, individuals or groups were planning to embark on protest in commemoration of one year anniversary of ENDSARS.

The command says Lagosians and indeed Nigerians cannot afford to relive the distasteful experience of last year’s protest which caused “pain, anguish, needless loss of lives and wanton destruction of public and private property.” The command warned individuals or groups who may want to stage an anniversary protest to jettison the idea now or face the full weight of the law

”In view of the volatility of the present situations in the country, and the breakdown of law and order which the planned protest might cause, the Lagos State Police Command sternly warns against any form of protest today.

The Command wishes to use this medium to warn the youths, groups, or associations planning such protest to jettison the idea forthwith. The police in the state will not fold their arms and allow some misguided elements disrupt the peace and serenity currently being enjoyed in the state.

To forestall breakdown of law and order, the police will use all legitimate means within their constitutional powers to suppress the planned protest.

Therefore, parents and guardians are advised to warn their children against participating in the planned protest. Individuals or groups sponsoring such protest are also warned in their own interest to desist from such unpatriotic plan or face the full weight or wrath of the law.”

Ajisebutu added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu assures all law-abiding residents of the state to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of harassment or intimidation. Adequate, additional security measures have been put in place to ensure the protection of their lives and property today and even beyond.

Woman suffers 90% burns on her body after jumping into hot spring to save her dog

A 20-year-old woman identified as Laiha Slayton has been in coma for over a week, after jumping into a hot spring (a naturally occurring spring of water that is hotter than 98 degrees Fahrenheit when it flows from the ground) to rescue her dog.

Laiha suffered burns to over 90% of her body when she jumped into the 200°F (93°C) geyser in Yellowstone National Park.

Her puppy, Rusty which ran away from her car while she was visiting her 48-year-old Dad on October 4, reportedly jumped into Maiden’s Grave Spring and died from his injuries.

Her father, Woodrow who helped her out of the water burnt his foot and it was gathered that she was treated by park rangers and a local fire service. Laiha was then transported by helicopter to the burn center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, United States.

Laiha was identified through a GoFundMe campaign set up by her sister Kamilla, who has been providing updates via social media on her sister’s condition. If all continues to go well in her recovery, Laiha will likely be in the coma for two to three weeks.

Recovery will also be a slow process as she goes through surgeries to remove the dead skin and replace it with donor cadaver skin until the hospital grows more compatible skin for her, her sister wrote on the GoFundMe page.

According to the GoFundMe, her burns ‘seem to be better than they had initially thought’, Kami wrote, adding that there were more second degree burns than third.

‘This means that our dad pulled her out insanely fast. She’s incredibly lucky. Dad saved her life.

‘When Rusty passed away, knowing that Laiha made this sacrifice and is walking out empty handed really has broken his heart, and she doesn’t even know yet. He’s holding that to his heart every day and that’s hard.’

As at Monday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised more than $58,000 out of its $200,000 goal for the Washington family. Yellowstone National Park officials have also spread the story, mostly as a warning to visitors to be wary and stay away from the hot springs.

Huge 6.5 magnitude earthquake hits the US

The United States has been rocked by an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale.

It struck the Alaska Peninsula on Monday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The earthquake struck 114km east of the city of Chignik and was a depth of 75km according to the EMSC.

No tsunami warning was issued after it struck.

Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci reported that the quake appeared to be an aftershock of an 8.2 earthquake that happened on July 29.

He said that aftershocks can last for months as well as being strong.

No tsunami threat was issued due to the mainly horizontal slip motion, he added.

Back in July, US was hit by the strongest  earthquake in 50 years. The epicentre struck off the coast of Alaska, causing tremors that could be felt throughout the state and setting tsunami alarms blaring.

See Wahala o! Bandits requesting “cooked food” as ransom now

Bandits are now reportedly demanding for cooked food as ransom following some measures instituted by state governments to fight insecuirty in their states.

A youth leader in one of the villages in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state, Babangida ‎Yaro, told Daily Trust that since the ban on weekly markets as part of measures to tackle insecurity, bandits operating along Damari, Kutemashi and Kuyello villages only asked for cooked food each time they abduct people.

Revealing that the ban on sale of fuel in filling stations located in rural communities had also helped to restrict movement, the youth leader further disclosed that when the bandits abduct two or three persons in farms, one is allowed to go and get them food from their relatives as ransom since there is no communication network to make contact.

He said;

“There is relative peace around Damari, kuyello, Kutemashi because the bandits have stopped attacking our communities. They usually stay in the forest and seiz food items mostly cooked ones from vendors.”

Yaro also told the publication that Dogon Dawa area is still not completely safe because villagers are still scared of accessing their farmlands. He lamented that the ban on use of private motorcycles in villages has increased hardship on residents.

40-year-old Teacher arrested after caught sending her nude photos to boys aged 13 and 14 and begging them for sex

An American substitute teacher has been arrested after she was allegedly caught sending nude photos and explicit texts to several teenage boys.

Jennifer Arnold, a 40-year-old woman from Oklahoma, is accused of sending non-consensual nudes of herself to boys aged between 13 to 14 years old.

After being arrested in the South Central US state, the teacher was released after paying a $10,000 bond.

Jennifer did not teach her alleged victims but she was in contact long enough with the boys for them to report their discomfort to the authorities.

An American local news channel, KTUL, reported that the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office had received a complaint of an “adult female sending nude photos and soliciting sexual conduct with a minor”.

As a result, Jennifer was arrested, before the police found that the woman had been sending debauched pictures of herself to a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old boy she is believed to have manipulatively befriended on social media, and tried to keep in touch with.

Authorities investigating the alleged offence told KTUL that they discovered that Jennifer had “offered to send another 15-year-old boy sexual photos and solicited sexual photos to him as well.”

According to the released affidavit, Jennifer’s alleged victims did not send photos of themselves in return for her nudes, and instead, ceased all contact with the grown woman.

In an official statement, Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott said: “Cases of this type are always tough and disappointing.

“We live in a world where we try to protect our children from harm and the loss of innocence. It is a constant battle to remain vigilant against predators of all types.

“As my investigators began uncovering witnesses and victims in this case, it just seemed that the more we probed, the more victims we found.

“As the investigation continues, I feel we may find more victims. I’m proud of the work my Investigators and staff did on this case.

“As Sheriff of Wagoner County, a father, and a grandfather, it is always important to me to protect the most vulnerable.”

The price of ‘Cooking Gas’ may rise to N10, 000 soon – Marketers warn

Marketers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas popularly known as cooking gas have warned that the price of cooking gas may increase to N10,000 by December 2021.

With the 12.5kg currently selling for between N7,500 and N8,000, marketers are worried that supply shortage may see the price escalate to N10,000 in a few months.

While speaking at a Pan-African forum, Platforms Africa on Saturday, October 9, LPG marketers said many Nigerians are back using firewood, sawdust, charcoal and other unrefined energy sources for cooking even though prices of those materials are also on the rise.

The Executive Secretary of the National Association of LPG Marketers, Mr Bassey Essien,  urged the government to review the recently introduced import charges and Value Added Tax.

He said if the advice is not heeded “the price of cooking gas may as well reach N10,000 for a 12.5kg cylinder.”

However, he said marketers are discussing with government officials on how the situation could be addressed.
