Premier League suspend their £43M deal with Russian broadcaster, Match TV

The Premier League has suspended its six-year deal with Russian broadcaster, Match TV, in response to President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.

On Thursday, June 9, all 20 clubs met at the league’s annual general meeting and were informed the deal has been shelved due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Match TV have close links to the Russian government as they are owned by Gazprom Media, and the channel was personally opened following a presidential decree by President Vladimir Putin in 2009. The network also has a deal with the Football Association to broadcast club games and UEFA to show the Champions League.

A deal with Match TV to kick in from the start of next season had already been agreed upon before the latest decision.

The decision comes after Manchester City ’s Ukraine star Oleksandr Zinchenko urged sporting organisations to “stop the sale of rights to broadcasts of international sporting competitions to Russian media.”

Football across western Europe has taken a firm stand against the war, displaying the Ukraine flag and broadcasting messages for peace before games.

The most significant consequence of the war has seen the ownership of Chelsea change hands after oligarch Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the British government and the club was forced to operate under a special licence that barred all investment.

Naira Marley indicted by EFCC for cyberfraud case

The Cybercrime Section of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Thursday, June, 9,  submitted reports of forensic investigations in the case against singer Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley, charged with credit card fraud before the Ikoyi Federal High Court.

Whyte Dein, the Chief Detective Officer of the Section told the court that his team’s investigations revealed that the defendant was involved in credit card fraud.

The artiste faced 11 charges bordering on alleged credit card fraud contrary to Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and the Cyber Crimes Act.

The singer reportedly committed these offenses between November 26 and December 11, 2018, and May 10, 2018. He was arraigned on May 20, 2019, but was granted bail.

At the resumed trial on Thursday, June, 9, Dein, led in evidence by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that they discovered conversations on the defendant’s iPhone with one Raze who asked for a credit card details.

He said, “One of our findings from the forensic report shows the exchange of chat messages with several persons when the defendant sent credit card details, including card numbers and expiration dates. Visa card details were one of those sent by the defendant to a certain person known on his contact list as Raze. This message sent Visa Card details to Raze, after which Raze replied that the card was not valid.”

“We were able to establish through investigation the previous messages he sent with a wrong card that was indeed not valid. We then repeated the same process a second time which was now valid.”

Dein also explained that the singer used a multi-lingual browser to access illegal networks.

He said: “The defendant used malicious tools to disguise the identity and location of the user of the laptop when connected to the internet along with the presence of the Top Browser which acted as a single gateway to the dark net. This gave us a reasonable ground to suspect that the defendant had been engaging in fraudulent card activities. And this was established through a reply to our request to Visa Western Union Card.”

“The types of sites most commonly associated with the dark web are marketplaces where illicit goods such as narcotics, firearms, and stolen credit card numbers are bought and sold. The darkest corners are used to hire hitmen, engage in human trafficking, and exchange child pornography.”

Another forensics expert, Buru Buhari had on October 3, 2019, during the proceedings, told the court that his investigations revealed stolen card details issued by European, American, and Latin American banks from the singer’s laptop.

Dein concluded by saying the investigations pointed out the defendant’s involvement in cyber fraud. However, the defense counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, objected and said only the court could conclude.

The case was adjourned till July 13 for ruling and July 15 for the continuation of trial.

Tiger Woods joins the billionaires circle

46-year-old golf legend, Tiger Woods has officially been declared a billionaire.

According to Forbes, the golf legend has a net worth of at least $1 billion based on his lifetime earnings. Notably, he is the third-ever athlete to achieve this feat after NBA stars Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

He reportedly raked in over $1.7 billion in salary, endorsements and other income over the course of his 27-year career, more than anyone else Forbes has tracked.

Woods reached that rarified air despite reportedly turning down a “mind-blowingly enormous” offer from the new Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour, a deal that LIV CEO Greg Norman told the Washington Post would’ve been in the “high nine digits.”

Yet to this point, less than 10% of Woods’ career earnings, and net worth, comes from golf winnings. The bulk of his fortune comes from enormous endorsement deals with more than a dozen brands, including Gatorade, Monster Energy, TaylorMade, Rolex and Nike, with whom he signed in 1996 and which remains his biggest backer.

Woods has also used his status and earnings to expand into an array of other ventures, which now include a golf design business (TGR Design), a live events production company (TGR Live) and a restaurant (The Woods). Through TGR Ventures, Woods has taken stakes in Full Swing, a golf technology training tool; Heard, a hospitality software startup; and PopStroke, a luxury mini-golf experience with four locations in Florida and plans to open a half-dozen more locations across the country in 2022. Woods is also identified as a partner in a SPAC announced in January, and he is an investor alongside British billionaire Joe Lewis’ Tavistock Group, golfing rival Ernie Els and Justin Timberlake in NEXUS Luxury Collection, a group of clubs and resorts.

The athlete’s impact on golf’s TV ratings, and purse sizes, cannot be overstated. In the early 2000s, according to former CBS president Neal Pilson, TV audiences would drop 30% to 50% when Woods was not in contention at a tournament. This so-called “Tiger Effect” contributed to PGA Tour winnings nearly tripling between 1996 and 2008, a stretch in which Woods won 14 major championships. (He is still a major draw, but less so these days.)

At his peak, Woods was the most prolific athlete endorser in history, earning north of $100 million per year off the course. He held the No. 1 spot in Forbes’ highest-paid athletes list for ten consecutive years, ending in 2012. Not even his dramatic fall from grace after his 2009 Thanksgiving car crash derailed his earnings power. Over the last 12 months, despite hardly ever teeing up the ball while recovering from a serious car accident, Woods collected $68 million in off-course income, enough to make him the 14th-highest-paid athlete in the world.

Away from the course, Woods enjoys a luxurious lifestyle that is befitting of his billionaire status. He lives in the exclusive area of Jupiter, Florida and resides in a stunning $48m mansion.

Not only does it have its own four-hole golf course, but the pad features a 100ft swimming pool, outdoor basketball area and tennis court.

‘Real Estates used by money launderers’ — EFCC Boss says

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has said that real estates are safe haven of money launderers.

Speaking on Thursday June 9, while receiving the president of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors Valuers (NIESV), Emmanuel Wike, Bawa narrated how they discovered a retired civil servant built a University in Kaduna.

He said;

“Just last month, we discovered a retired civil servant built a University in Kaduna and nobody, including your members, reported such transactions.

‘’So, I’m still bold to say that the real estate sector is one of the easiest places for money launderers. That’s why we’re empowering SCUML with all the necessary tools to enable us achieve our mandate, so whatever we are doing is backed by the law”

Bawa urged members of the NIESV to comply with extant laws regulating their practices by furnishing the EFCC with full details of suspicious transactions in line with the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Act (2022).

Wike who praised the EFCC for prosecuting high profile corrupt individuals, assured the anti-graft agency that his members would collaborate with the EFCC by exposing the bad eggs in the profession.

Ecuador may be out of Qatar World Cup over claims that their defender’s forgery of documents

Ecuador are reportedly set to be expelled from this year’s World Cup over claims their defender Byron Casillo falsified his birth documents to represent the country when he’s actually Colombian.

The country’s FA had been investigated by FIFA over the allegations raised by Chile, who finished seventh in South American qualifying and missed out on a place at the Qatar tournament, while Ecuador finished in fourth place.

Chile claimed they had proof that Castillo was born in Tumaco, Colombia in 1995, and not in the Ecuadorean city of General Villamil Playas in 1998 as stated on his official documents. It claimed the Barcelona of Guayaquil full-back used a false passport and birth certificate.

A new report from Mundo Deportivo claims FIFA has already made its decision to kick Ecuador out after concluding its probe into the allegations and an announcement will be made in the next few days.

The report also claims there is a faint hope from Italy that they might be able to take advantage of Ecuador’s potential expulsion and be included in the World Cup despite being dumped out by North Macedonia in the play-offs.

That might be possible if FIFA award Ecuador’s place to the team with the best position in their World Rankings instead.

Eduardo Carlezzo, a lawyer representing Chile, previously urged FIFA to speed up their investigation after compiling evidence and called on them to inflict the ‘harshest sanctions’ on Ecuador.

‘Chilean soccer is clear that a serious offense has been committed by the player (Byron Castillo). We have no doubt, with the documentation we have in hand, [de] that he is Colombian. We have a narrative that has a beginning, a middle and an end,’ the lawyer told radio ADN.

‘I’m sure that FIFA has knowledge and the need to speed up this very quickly. For this week we expect a demonstration.

‘The Civil Registry of Ecuador declares in a legal ruling, which we have and that we sent to FIFA, that Castillo’s departure certificate does not exist; and, if it doesn’t exist, it’s fake.

‘We cannot validate that a Federation accepts and validates a crime. They deserve the harshest sanction from FIFA’, concluded the lawyer.

The FIFA rules in cases of ineligible players require results to be overturned as a 3-0 loss.

Lady wins £4.1M payout from car insurance company after catching STD while having sex in partner’s car

A woman has been awarded a huge £4.1m payout from a car insurance company after she caught an STD while having sex in the back of her partner’s Hyundai.

The woman, referred to in court documents as simply M.O., said that she contracted human papillomavirus, HPV, from her lover while they were having sex in the back of his car.

He was insured by GEICO General Insurance Company, and in February 2021 she notified them that she intended to seek compensation for the damages she received from their client.

Court documents reveal that the man knew he had HPV, alongside throat cancer, yet continued to have sex with M.O. without notifying her of the risks, which “directly caused, or directly contributed to cause” the infection, Dailystar.co.uk reports.

The Jackson County Circuit Court ruled that the man was liable, and the woman was awarded a £4.1m settlement, to be paid by his insurance company, GEICO.

Court documents show that after the Jackson County Circuit Court ruled in M.O.’s favour,

GEICO took the case to the Missouri Court of Appeals to dispute the ruling. They claimed the judgement violated their rights to due process, and the settlement was unenforceable, as Yahoo.com reports.

But a panel of three judges looked into the case and concluded that the result was valid and that the insurance company must pay the £4.1m settlement.

The ruling, from the Missouri Court of Appeals, reads: “After M.O. contracted anogenital human papillomavirus, she submitted a settlement offer to GEICO, asserting Insured negligently infected her with the disease during sexual encounters in his automobile, and that Insured’s GEICO-issued automobile insurance policy provided coverage for her injuries and losses.

“…The arbitrator found Insured negligently infected M.O. with HPV and awarded her $5.2m in damages.

“…In 2017, M.O. and Insured began a romantic relationship, effective at that time was an automobile insurance policy issued by GEICO to Insured.

“On February 25, 2021, M.O. submitted to GEICO a copy of a petition she intended to file against Insured, and made a final settlement offer to resolve her ‘claims against Insured for the applicable limits of $1m’.

“The petition attached to the settlement offer alleged that during ‘November and early of December of 2017’, Insured and M.O. engaged in unprotected sexual activities in Insured’s vehicle, and during those sexual encounters, Insured ‘negligently caused or contributed to cause M.O. to be infected with HPV by not taking proper precautions and neglecting to inform and/or disclose his diagnosis’, despite ‘having knowledge of his condition.” S

peaking to the Daily Mail, Los Angeles personal injury attorney Miguel Custodio, said: “If you think about it as an injury sustained while in that person’s vehicle, then it totally falls within what an insurance company would be required to pay.

“Usually, injuries to passengers are the result of a collision or slamming the door on one’s fingers, that sort of thing. But while a lawsuit over contracting an STD from the insured driver may be the first of its kind, this award shows that it’s not a stretch for someone to file against an insurance company for any actions occurring in a motor vehicle.

“The lesson to be learned here is that people need to broaden the scope of what an injury is. Most people would not think that contracting this disease is an injury suffered in a vehicle — though it definitely is.”

Nigeria declares Monday, June 13, as its Public Holiday (Democracy Day)

The federal government has declared Monday, June 13, as a public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day which comes up on June 12.

The announcement was made by Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola in a statement signed on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr M. L. Shuaib Belgore on Thursday June 9.

Aregbesola who urged all citizens to support the present administration in its efforts at ensuring a secured, united and prosperous nation, also admonished Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the long journey the country has made towards the enthronement of civil democratic order, before Independence in 1960 till date and the sacrifices of our patriots.

The Minister appealed to Nigerians to faith with democracy, adding that though it might not have brought the best of expectations, keeping to it is better than alternatives which have proved ruinous and disastrous to the nation.

The statement read;

“As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains one united, secured, peaceful and an indivisible entity, noting that no development can take place in an acrimonious environment.

“With the challenges we face in Nigeria today, I see an opportunity for us not to break up or break down, but to break open; open up to ourselves in truth so that we may appreciate each other, understand each other, honour each other and live together in peace and prosperity.

“There will surely be light at the end of the tunnel.”

ex. US President, Donald Trump ‘behind attempted coup to overthrow US Govt’ – Capitol Hill inquiry finds

Thousands of Donald Trump’s supporters, fueled by his claims of voter fraud, flooded the nation’s capital to protest the expected certification of Joe Biden’s White House victory by the US Congress, and the former president was behind it, an inquiry by Capitol Hill lawmakers has found.

A congressional inquiry on Thursday, June 9, heard the former president played a crucial role in trying to violently stop the presidential elections from being authorized.

Trump said the election had been ‘stolen’ and ‘rigged’ by supporters of Joe Biden, claims which have been categorically proven false.

Capitol Hill

A huge mob, some of them armed, forced their way through police lines, many threatening to kill politicians inside, including vice president Mike Pence as they overran the building where legislators were meeting to certify the results of the election he lost to Joe Biden on January 6, 2021.

The inquiry on Thursday heard an account that claimed Trump said his former number two ‘deserves it’ as crowds chanted they would hang Mr Pence.

Five people died and more than 130 police officers were injured, as they battled to stay in control of the capitol hill.

Congresswoman Liz Cheney said: ‘President Trump summoned a violent mob.

‘When a president fails to take the steps necessary to preserve our union – or worse, causes a constitutional crisis – we’re in a moment of maximum danger for our republic.’

The hearing was played 12 minutes of new footage of the deadly violence, as well as testimony from Trump’s inner circle including his daughter Ivanka and son in-law Jared Kushner.

The House committee said the former president’s ‘repeated lies’ about election fraud and his public effort to stop Joe Biden’s victory led to the capitol attack .

Congressman Bennie Thompson, chairman of the panel, said during the hearing: ‘Democracy remains in danger.

‘January 6 was the culmination of an attempted coup, a brazen attempt, as one rioter put it shortly after January 6, to overthrow the government.

‘The violence was no accident.’

WAEC arrests supervisors in Kaduna, Kano, Lagos and Bayelsa over malpractice

The Head of Nigeria National Office of West African Examination Council (WAEC), Patrick Areghan, disclosed that about 10 supervisors have been arrested for alleged involvement in examination malpractices in the ongoing Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.

Speaking on Thursday, June 9, during supervision of the examination in four centres in Abuja, Areghan said the arrests were made in Lagos, Kano, Bayelsa and Kaduna States.

He said: “Our major problem lies with the supervisors as only few of them are reliable and it’s unfortunate these are the supervisors that were nominated by the various states ministry of education and we employed them. We don’t have the power to nominate any supervisors on our own we only made use of credible teachers supplied to us by the ministry.

“But for a mere pot of porridge they sell their conscience and allow candidates to come into the examination hall with phones to snap question papers and post them on designated platforms.”

He said some of the supervisors belong to syndicate groups running the platforms.

He added: “The good news is we catch them and they don’t go unpunished as we are working hand in hand with the Nigerian police.”

Harvey Weinstein faces new sexual assault charges

Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein will be charged by the Metropolitan Police with two counts of indecent assault against a woman in August 1996, prosecutors in Britain said today.

Rosemary Ainslie, head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, confirmed that Scotland Yard had been authorised to charge the ex-film producer.

The charges related to one female complainant in August 1996 in London, and the decision was reached after the CPS reviewed evidence gathered by the Met.

Police said the woman at the centre of the allegations is now aged in her 50s and the two alleged offences are contrary to section 14(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956.

Ms Ainslie said: ‘The CPS has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Harvey Weinstein with two counts of indecent assault against a woman in August 1996.

‘Charges have been authorised against Harvey Weinstein, 70, following a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation.

‘The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.’

A Met Police spokesman said today: ‘Detectives have been authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service to charge Harvey Weinstein, aged 70 years, with two counts of indecent assault against one woman in August 1996.

‘The CPS’ charging decision follows a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation. The two offences of indecent assault, contrary to section 14(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 are as follows:

  • ‘Indecent assault (count 1) on a woman who is now in her 50s between 31st July and 31st August 1996 in London
  • ‘Indecent assault (count 2) on a woman who is now in her 50s between 31st July and 31st August 1996 in London

‘The Met Police has updated all those whose allegations formed part of this investigation.’

Weinstein was sentenced in March 2020 at New York Supreme Court to 23 years in prison for a sexual assault in 2006 and a rape in a separate incident in 2013.

The 70-year-old is currently in a prison in California where he is awaiting another trial for alleged sexual assault against five women. He has pleaded not guilty.

Alert! Ghana records 5 cases of Monkeypox

Ghana has recorded five cases of monkeypox in the Eastern, Western and Greater Accra regions.

Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye made the announcement at a press briefing on Wednesday, June 8. He revealed that “one of the cases was recorded in a Ghanaian who travelled from the United States of America to Ghana”.

It was also disclosed that 12-suspected cases have been investigated since May 24, 2022. According to Dr Kuma Aboagye, there is currently no treatment for Monkey Pox.

However, he said there is a vaccine available but not in Ghana. “But I don’t think we have reached a stage where we will call for vaccination in Ghana,” he said.

He further noted that the cases being recorded were mild to moderate.

Monkeypox is caused by the monkeypox virus, a member of the same family of viruses as smallpox. It spreads through respiratory droplets or by contact with fluid from skin sores. Anyone who has been diagnosed with monkeypox, or who suspects they might have it, should avoid close contact with others.

Monkeypox begins with fever, headache, muscle aches, and exhaustion. The main difference between symptoms of smallpox and monkeypox is that monkeypox causes lymph nodes to swell (lymphadenopathy) while smallpox does not

“I woke up from coma to find my fiance had moved in with someone else” – Woman reveals

A woman has narrated how she woke up from a coma to find her fiance had ghosted her and moved in with someone else.

25-year-old Brie Duval further revealed that the new woman also sent her a text message which she read after she woke up.

The Australian lady who has racked up millions of views on her @hotcomagirl1 TikTok account, said she went into coma after a horrific accident she had last August.

Brie Duval

She had moved to Canada working in her dream job and had been in a great relationship with her partner for four years – and she claims they’d even got engaged. However, on August 29, 2021, she had a horrific fall from a car park.

One of the walls was under construction, and Brie hadn’t seen the large drop to the concrete pavement beneath in the dark as there was no signs or tape.

She fell headfirst over the edge and had to be airlifted to the University of Alberta Hospital where she was placed on life support in the ICU.

She suffered numerous broken bones and a brain injury, and was in a coma for four weeks. Doctors told her mum that she only had a 10 per cent of surviving the injury.

Thankfully Brie started to show signs of improvement, and she eventually woke up. Although she suffered amnesia when she woke up, she started to piece together the events of the evening.

Her mobile phone was returned to her, but what she found on it was heartbreaking.  Her partner, who she had been living with, reportedly blocked her on social media and ghosted her completely.

Brie Duval

She also found a text from his new girlfriend, which informed Brie that he had moved in with her and her son and to not speak to him.

Brie told Mirror;

“I have not heard from him since I have been in hospital, he’s completely and utterly left me in the dust. So I don’t even have closure as to why this happened.”

Five months after the accident, Brie who was left with a traumatic brain injury (TBI), was able to fly home to Australia to be with her family.

R.Kelly may spend more than 25 years in Prison – Federal Prosecutors say

Federal prosecutors in New York on Wednesday, June 8, recommended that the R&B singer R. Kelly be sentenced to more than 25 years in prison after being convicted of sex trafficking.

In a filing in Brooklyn federal court, prosecutors said Kelly exploited his stardom and wealth over a quarter-century to lure women and underage girls for sex, demonstrating a “callous disregard” for his victims and showing no remorse.

“Indeed, the defendant’s decades of crime appear to have been fueled by narcissism and a belief that his musical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct – no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating or abusive to others – to the strictures of the law,” prosecutors said.

In the filing, prosecutors argued Kelly showed no remorse for what he did, and that his actions were fueled by a belief that his “musical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct — no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating or abusive to others — to the strictures of the law.”

They also recommended Kelly should be fined between $50,000 to $250,000, according to the document.

Kelly, 55, who has been jailed since 2019, remains a “serious danger” to the public, justifying keeping him behind bars until well into his 70s, prosecutors added.

The singer, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was convicted in September of racketeering, including acts of bribery and sexual exploitation of a child, and of separate charges of sex trafficking.

In his federal case, Kelly was found guilty of all nine counts he faced — one count of racketeering, with 14 underlying acts that included sexual exploitation of a child, kidnapping, bribery and sex trafficking charges — and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits sex trafficking across state lines.

Of the 14 underlying acts for the racketeering count, he needed to be found guilty of at least two to be convicted of that count. Jurors found prosecutors had proven all but two of the 14 underlying racketeering acts.

Kelly is expected to be sentenced on June 29 in the Eastern District of New York.

Jennifer Bonjean, a lawyer for Kelly, has said he should spend fewer than 14 years in prison, and will in a filing next Monday explain why his “history and characteristics” justify a shorter sentence.

“When the wicked rule the people perish” – Bishop Oyedepo reacts

Clergyman and senior pastor of Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has said that it is now clear that when the wicked rule the people perish.

While speaking in his church recently, Oyedepo said he shouted this in 2015 but that Nigerians blindly went and brought in ”this wicked government”

Oyedepo said this while reacting to the recent attack on the St Francis Catholic church in Owo, Ondo state.

”Those vagabonds were out to kill people in a church in Ondo State, I can tell you this for free f they escape, God has not sent me. Their generation will smell, The people who sent them will smell, they shall be forgotten. They shall become a byword and a proverb. Their generations will rot.

The devil is scared but we are going to beat him hands down, flood him out of this nation. We are caretakers, imagine how the owner feels. Imagine how God feels, you think God is asleep. Oh God, to whom vengeance belongs, arise and mess them up, root them out, destroy their roots.

I curse their roots, it rots today. Their generation rots today.

Everybody living is created by God. In Church and out of Church. The church is the beloved of God, you can’t mess with the beloved and go free. We are the apple of God’s eyes. There will be sharp reactions from heaven.

I am telling you as a prophet. It is going to happen within days. They should hear me now, they have always heard me before.

All the gang up of hell against the well being of this nation comes under a curse today. Everyone behind the insecurity in this nation, everyone behind the bandits, whether they are Boko Haram or Boko hell cursed be to them.

Zion is the place for the rise of giants in the body of Christ so they want to weaken people from being gathered. Any man standing in the way of God’s agenda is like a fool standing in the way of a 16 wheeler trailer. You will be crushed and the trailer won’t feel anything.

Now lift your two hands and pray in the spirit against these evil men and women. Everybody behind the assault on the Church of Christ. The Lord God judges them today. The vengeance of God reaches out to them today.

It is very clear that when the wicked rule the people mourn. I shouted this in 2015. I am not a propagandist, I am not a public speaker, I am not an activist, I am a prophet. You blindly went and brought in this wicked government. Nigeria has never suffered evil like this in our history and they still want to rule? Never!”he said

Goodnews! Dostarlimab, US cancer drug trial records ‘100% success’

For the first time, a small clinical trial in the United States showed 100% eradication of the cancer disease in patients at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.

Although the trial was done on a small scale, it has raised hopes that the world may soon be able to get rid of the dreaded cancer disease.

The small group of people suffering from rectal cancer witnessed that their cancer vanished completely after the experimental treatment. According to reports, the 18 patients in the small clinical trial took Dostarlimab for around six months and after over 12 months the doctors found that their cancer has disappeared.

Researchers said this was the first time that all the patients in a cancer trial were completely healed with medication and they did not have serious side effects.

Here is all you need to know about the trial:

1. The trial included 18 cancer patients who took a drug called ‘Dostarlimab’ for around six months, and by the end of it, every one of them got rid of their tumours, reported the New York Times.

2. As per the NYT, the 18 patients had undergone various treatments before for cancer including chemotherapy, radiation, and invasive surgery. The patients had reportedly undergone the US trial expecting to have to go through other procedures in the next step. However, no further treatment was needed.

3. According to experts, the drug ‘Dostarlimab’ includes laboratory-produced molecules and acts as substitute antibodies in the human body. As per experts, cancer is undetectable by physical exam – proving that the drug could be a potential cure for the disease. Dr Luis A. Diaz J. of New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center said this was “the first time this has happened in the history of cancer.”

4. The patients took the drug Dostarlimab every three weeks for six months during the trial. Notably, all the patients were in the similar stages of cancer and had not spread to other organs.

5. According to experts, the trial has been “shocking” and “unheard of”. Oncologist Dr Andrea Cercek described the moment patients found out they were cancer-free: “There were a lot of happy tears”, she said, as quoted by the NYT.

Dostarlimab is a drug with laboratory-produced molecules and it acts as substitute antibodies in the human body. According to experts, Dostarlimab works by changing the action of your own immune system, directing it to attack cancer/tumor cells.

Ondo State Church confirms 38 deaths in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church massacre

The Catholic Diocese of Ondo State has said that 38 people have so far been confirmed dead in the Sunday terrorists’ attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

Recall that the State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had said that 22 people died while 52 survivors are on admission at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, St Louis Hospital, Owo and the Owo General Hospital as well as some private hospitals.

However, the Diocesan Bishop, Jude Arogundade, said 38 parishioners have been confirmed dead so far.

Arogundade told Punch that the diocese has been able to account for 38 victims.

He, however, said some families picked up corpses of their loved ones and those could not be accounted for by the diocese.

He said: “People have been asking me about the figure of those who died. The figure that we can account for presently is 38.

“But we know that many people were taken to private hospitals. Even some people came to take the bodies of their loved ones. We are trying to trace those people so that we can have a recount for all.

“But in the catholic hospital, which is St. Louis Hospital in Owo, and the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, we have 38 bodies.”

“I will never forgive the ‘coward’ Police” – Texas teacher who lost 11 students says

The Uvalde teacher who was shot multiple times and lost all 11 children in his classroom has slammed the police for their slow response while a gunman massacred teachers and students.

18-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School on May 24, killing 19 students and 2 teachers. Many others were injured.

Arnulfo Reyes, who lost all 11 students in his class at the time of the shooting, said on Tuesday, June 7, during an interview on Good Morning America, that May 24 was meant to be a good day with a special awards ceremony for students as the school year neared its end.

He said some children went home with their parents after the ceremony but 11 stayed. Reyes had put on a movie for them when the gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, entered the building and started shooting.

“The kids started asking out loud, ‘Mr. Reyes what is going on?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know what’s going on. But let’s go ahead and get under the table and act like you’re asleep,'” Arnulfo Reyes, a third and fourth grade teacher who taught out of room 111, recalled.

“As they were doing that .… is about the time when I turned around and saw him standing there.”

Reyes said the gunman entered room 111 through the adjoining door of room 112 and opened fire. Reyes was shot twice, with one bullet hitting him in his arm and lung and another striking him in his back.

“I told my kids to act like they’re asleep so I’m going to act like I’m asleep also. And I prayed and prayed that I wouldn’t hear none of my students talk,” Reyes recalled.

When asked if he thought he was going to die, he said, “Yes, ma’am.”

The gunman entered the school at 11:33 a.m. and started shooting at adjoining rooms 111 and 112, firing off more than 100 rounds, according to audio evidence, the Texas Department of Public Safety previously said.

Though officers quickly followed the gunman into the school, they didn’t enter the classroom he was in until 12:50 p.m. — 77 minutes later.

Reyes said he can never forgive the police officers for taking more than an hour to stop the shooter.

“They’re cowards,” Reyes told ABC News. “They sit there and did nothing for our community. They took a long time to go in. … I will never forgive them.”

He recalled how he heard a child in the next classroom, 112, call out in a desperate plea for help.

“Officer, we’re in here! We’re in here,” the student said, according to Reyes.

After hearing the voice, the shooter “got up from behind my desk, he walked over there and shot over there again,” he said.

Reyes eventually heard officers beckon the gunman, saying they wanted to talk.

After the door was finally breached, Border Patrol killed the shooter.

He said he is left “angry” by the police response to the shooting and how long it took to enter the classrooms.

Due to the delayed response, all of the students in his classroom died in the rampage.

“After everything, I get more angry because you have a bulletproof vest. I had nothing. I had nothing. You’re supposed to protect and serve, there is no excuse for their actions,” Reyes said.

“This family lost one (child), I lost 11 that day,” Reyes said, overcome with emotion.

“I tell my parents, ‘I’m sorry. I tried my best, what I was told to do. Please don’t be angry with me.'”

Reyes said no training can prepare students and staff for an active shooter scenario.

“Nothing gets you ready for this,” he said. “We trained our kids to sit under the table, and that’s what I thought at the time, but we set them up to be like ducks.”

“You can give us all the training you want. But gun laws have to change. It won’t ever change unless you change the laws,” Reyes added.

He said he is devoting himself to make sure change happens in honor of the 21 lives lost.

“The only thing that I know is I will not let these children and my co-workers die in vain. I will not,” he said. “I will go anywhere, to the end of the world, to not let my students die in vain.”

Zimbabwean Prostitutes now inject themselves with blood to get high, accept food produce as payment

A new report has claimed that poor sex workers in Zimbabwe inject themselves with blood to get high.

The new trend known as flashblood or bluetoothing, requires a syringe full of blood being passed from someone who has just injected heroin to someone else who wants the drugged blood instead of heroin.

According to the report, sex workers in Murambinda are deliberately injecting themselves with addicts’ blood in a desperate effort to share the intoxication. The sex workers inject themselves with the intoxicated blood so that they can get high and confident enough to approach potential clients as well as to cater for their ever-changing sexual demands which of late have included anal sex and blow jobs.

Tafadzwa Dinga, a Microplanner under the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) funded Microplanning program being implemented by the National Aids Council (NAC) confirmed the development.

Dinga said;

Young sex workers are taking drugs. When we ask them they usually don’t divulge that they use drugs but the evidence will be there. Some of the common drugs being taken by these youngsters include Gukka Makafela, Bronclear (Ngomwa) and Marijuana. We are also hearing that young sex workers are now injecting each other’s blood to get high. They take blood from an intoxicated peer and deliberately inject into themselves, we have been hearing of such cases of late and we are still investigating.

Another microplanner in Murambinda, Angela Matizanadzo said it was not unusual that sex workers in the district were drug users given the capricious sexual demands of their clients.

Angela said:

We are having a problem especially amongst our young sex workers. Some of them are new and can’t say no to certain demands. Of late, clients have been demanding anal sex and blow jobs. For experienced sex workers, they know that it’s risky to have anal sex and oral sex but our young girls are at a disadvantage.

***************

Some sex workers in Zimbabwe have reportedly resorted to using bread packets as contraception as the price of condoms and basic essentials continues to rise.

A 21-year old sex worker from Mutare who spoke to Manica Post, revealed that she started sex work at 16, and bread packaging was being used as a substitute for condoms when sex workers face shortages.

Mutare medical practitioner Dr Tendai Zuze also bemoaned how thigh vendors have resorted to using bread packets as protection. Zuze who stated that bread packets are risky as it might not be strong enough to sustain the pressure of friction during intercourse, and can easily break and put the people involved at risk of transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

iHarare also reported that sex workers at Dema growth point are now accepting buckets of maize and cups of beans as payment from their cash-strapped male clients.

Speaking to a local publication at Dema growth point in Seke rural, sex workers appealed to the government and other organisations for low-interest loans to start income-generating projects to fend for their starving families.

One of the sex workers, who only identified herself as Alice said;

“Gone are the days when we used to charge US$5 for the whole night. These days even one dollar is accepted, so that you are able to buy vegetables and tomatoes and cook something for your starving children.”

She said she has three children, one of which is doing Form 4. The child needs ZIMSEC (Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council) registration fees while the other kids are in Grade 7 and Grade One.

Alice added;

“I now even accept a bucket of maize or cups of dried beans as payment for sex services. At least I am assured that my kids will have porridge.”

Teen boy used his toy drones to locate and help destroyed Russian convoys (photos)

A teenage boy who used his drone to help Ukraine’s armed forces locate and destroy a huge Russian convoy bearing down on Kyiv in the early days of the war has been hailed as a ‘real hero of Ukraine’.

Ukraine’s territorial defence unit contacted young drone pilot Andrii Pokrasa early in the war after hearing that the teenager was a highly skilled drone operator living near Kyiv.

Andrii Pokrasa, a 15-year-old boy who lives on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital, was approached by the military to help them find a Russian convoy, which was between the E40 highway between Kyiv and Zhytomyr.

Despite the threat to his life, Pokrasa took his drone into a nearby field under cover of darkness and successfully obtained photos and GPS co-ordinates of the oncoming Russian convoy, which his father forwarded to Ukrainian military via social media.

Minutes later, Ukrainian artillery rained down on the highway near Berezivka and obliterated the convoy roughly 23 miles away from the Kyiv city centre.

The move was so successful that the military handed the young boy the controls of a high-grade drone with a longer range which helped them to go ahead wnd destroy several Russian tank units and armoured vehicles as a result.

‘[Pokrasa] was the only one who was experienced with drones in that region,’ Yurii Kasjanov, the commander of a territorial defence unit that liased with the teenage drone pilot, said.

‘He’s a real hero. A hero of Ukraine.’

Pokrasa described the experience as being ‘very, very scary’, but said he wanted to prevent the Russian forces from attacking his home town.

‘[The territorial defence force] provided us information on where approximately the Russian column could be.

‘Our goal was to find the exact coordinates and provide the coordinates to the soldiers… I gave them the coordinates and photos, and after that they targeted the location,’ the teenage pilot said.

Commander Kasjanov said his territorial defence unit offered as much protection to Pokrasa and his family as they could while the teenager carried out his vital work.

Ukraine’s deployment of drones has been an integral part of their success in pushing back Putin’s forces from around Kyiv, and Military-grade drones, such as the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB-2, have helped Ukraine’s armed forces to inflict major losses on Russia’s motorised units since the war began.

Pokrasa told Global News he was aware of the risks involved and was afraid, but said he knew ‘I can’t do it any other way’.

How I survived the Owo church massacre

A Nigerian lady who survived the gunmen attack on a Catholic church in Owo, Ondo state, is celebrating her birthday today June 7.

The Facebook user, Stephanie Ajibo Olitex revealed that she was carrying a baby at the time of the attack and hid in a cupboard to escape from the gunmen.

She revealed that one of the gunmen who wore a mask, shot someone near where she hid and when he looked around and didn’t see anybody or hear a sound, he went away. Stephanie also disclosed that the attackers killed children, youths and the elderly.

She wrote;

We were inside the church when they started shooting from the outside. People at the back started running towards the altar. Some jumped fence, our priest escaped through the sacristy with the help of our catechist.

By the time I ran towards the Sacristy door, it was already locked by members who were able to reach there before me. I had to hide myself under the cupboard inside the choir room with the baby in my hand. He shot somebody right in front of me near the Sacristy door. He looked around, when he didn’t see anybody or sound, he went away. He was on mask, loaded with Ak 47.

Note that the distance between the heavily loaded gunman and me was like kitchen to dinning. Our choir master who was hiding with us was shot on his chest before he ran into the room with us. I pray he survives the bullet.

They killed children, youths and elderly. We’ve recorded almost 100 death and still counting..I came out alive and escaped through the fence that demarcated our church from the Palace of Olowo of Owo Kingdom and ran to the palace for the fear of the unknown. The baby with me is safe, I’m also safe.

Happy birthday to me…

Putin loses his 50th colonel after 2 Russian generals were killed in one day

Russia has lost its 50th colonel of the war in Ukraine days after two Russian generals were killed in one day.

Artillery commander Lt Col Vladimir Nigmatullin, a 46-year-old father-of-three from Yekaterinburg, was killed on May 31, Daily Mail reports.

His death has been confirmed by his family, adding to the huge growing list of casualties of Russia’s military leaders, with one colonel killed every two days.

Nigmatullin’s sister-in-law Marina Konyukhova said: ‘Eternal memory, darling, dear, much-loved man, you passed away.

‘We still cannot believe you are gone. You are a father of three children, and an amazing husband to my sister.

‘I am always proud of you, and I will always be proud. You set an example to the Motherland, so that everyone does like you did.

‘You were ordered with the Order of Bravery, posthumously. You went through a lot of conflict areas.’

His death comes after Vladimir Putin lost two of his most senior commanders in a single day in a devastating bridge ambush in eastern Ukraine, a group of independent journalists claimed.

On Sunday June 5, Russia confirmed the death of Major-General Roman Kutuzov. The next day,  it was claimed Lieutenant-General Roman Berdnikov was also killed on the same day in an attack carried out by Kyiv’s forces, taking the death toll of generals to 12.

Lt Col Vladimir Nigmatullin

Kutuzov was the chief of staff of the 29th Combined Arms Army and was awarded a posthumous promotion to Lieutenant-General. He died in an ambush in Donbas.

‘He calmly walked up the career ladder, successfully commanded the troops, and died as a soldier, fighting on the front lines,’ said a report by Readovka.

One mourner said: ‘I knew him personally, Roman lived a hero and died a hero.

‘My condolences to his loved ones, strength and patience to his subordinates and fellow officers.’

The claims that both Berdnikov and Kutuzov died came from the Volya Telegram channel which has independent war journalists working on both sides of the conflict.

‘On the morning of June 5, Lt-Gen Roman Berdnikov, who led the Russian troops and units of the DPR from Donetsk, left with the headquarters on a working trip,’ said the post. ‘On the way, presumably on a bridge, the vehicles of the headquarters were attacked by a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group.’

Part of the convoy was ‘destroyed or immobilised’ but some vehicles, ‘having received serious damage and firing back, were able to escape from the ambush and leave,’ the post said.

‘After that, our sources reported that Roman Berdnikov died in this battle,’ the report continued. ‘A little later, two more sources confirmed this, specifying that other senior officers could have died during the battle.’

Teen banished from entire town after threatening many residents

A 14 year old teen has been banned from a town after launching a campaign of misery, and threats towards the town’s residents.

Keylan Evans, displayed anti-social and threatening behaviour, as well as online abuse in the Worcestershire town of Kidderminster, UK according to West Mercia Police.

According to local reports from Kidderminster, the police were forced to take action following a string of complaints from local businesses and the community who fell prey to the teen’s dubious ways.

Worcester Magistrates’ Court slapped him with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) for ‘causing a significant amount of distress and harassment to local businesses, members of the public and the wider community’.

The court designation means Evans, from Stourport-on-Severn, will be forbidden from entering the town until May 2025.

The ban prevents him from entering Kidderminster, except to attend court, a police station or see his solicitor, and associate with certain people.

He is also banned from being in a group of more than three people in public, outside his immediate family.

Restrictions were also placed on his behaviour and communications.

The teen could face a fine or a prison sentence if he were to breach the order.

Sergeant Daniel Townsend said: ‘This order will hopefully prevent him from acting in this manner in the future.

‘I hope the CBO provides reassurance to the local community that the police will take positive action in these situations.’

Shocking! Indian man chops off wife’s hand to stop her from taking government job

In a shocking case of jealousy and inferiority complex, an Indian man allegedly chopped off his wife’s hand from the wrist to prevent her from joining a state government nursing job.

The man identified as Sher Mohammad, a resident of Ketugram in the East Burdwan district of West Bengal in Kolkata, allegedly committed the act on Sunday, June 5.

The victim, Renu Khatun recently got the job of a nurse in a state-run hospital after preparing for it for the past three years. She was to join the service next week.

“Her husband, who is a grocery shop owner, and in-laws were against Renu’s dream of working as a government employee. Mohammad and his parents are presently at large,” said an officer of the local police station.

Following the brutal attack on his wife, the man admitted her to a local hospital for treatment on Monday morning but he concealed the severed body part at his residence to make sure that the doctors are unable to replant it, reported news agency IANS.

“Mohammad first smothered Renu with a pillow and then severed her palm with a chopper, After Renu fell unconscious, Mohammad took her to the local hospital hiding the severed palm at home. The incident came to light after the woman became conscious and narrated her plight,” said the police officer.

After admitting Renu Khatun to the hospital, the suspect and his family members disappeared from the hospital.

Locals told the police that Renu Khatun was working as a nursing assistant at a private hospital in the nearby industrial township of Durgapur while undergoing training.

Renu’s father Azizul Haque said his daughter used to work in a private healthcare unit before marriage.

“Her husband and in-laws were against her decision to work. Recently, she was selected for the post of a nurse in a government hospital. Renu complained me that her in-laws and Mohammad wanted her not to join the service. I never imagined that she would have to pay such a price for achieving her goal,” he said.

During the course of investigation, police came to know that Mohammad told his friends that Renu might leave him after joining the government hospital.

On hearing the incident, Azizul and his son Ripan Sheikh rushed to the hospital from where they shifted Renu to a nursing home.

“Ever since my sister got the state government appointment letter, Sher Mohammad had been insisting she rejects that offer,” Ripan, Renu Khatun’s elder brother said.

“But my sister always wanted to pursue a nursing career and she refused her husband’s wish. We never knew that Sher Mohammod’s feeling of insecurity will take such a tragic turn,” he added.

Armed with the complaint lodged by Azizul and the statement given by Renu, the police went to Mohammad’s house only to find it locked.

“They are absconding. We carried out searches at the houses of their relatives but they were found nowhere,” said another police officer.

Crystal Palace set to sign up Joe Aribo for £25m

Premier League club, Crystal Palace, are preparing a bid to sign Super Eagles and Glasgow Rangers midfielder, Joe Aribo, for £25m.

According to The Athletic, the Premier League outfit Palace hold a ‘serious interest’ in signing Aribo this summer and a £25m bid is being prepared for him to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.”

The report also claims that Aribo is one of the few key stars at Rangers that could be sold this summer in order to generate significant funds to reinvest into this summer’s transfer budget, with the midfielder one of several players entering the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox in the coming weeks.

The 25-year-old has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa and Brentford, according to several reports.

He has become a key figure at his club after playing a huge part in the Scottish side’s league title in 2020-21, as well as helping them reach the Europa League final last season, where he scored a goal as the Gers’ lost 5-4 on penalties after regulation time ended 1-1.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Aribo managed to score nine goals and register eight assists in 57 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Elon Musk threatens to back out from $44billion Twitter deal

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has threatened to pull out of his deal to purchase Twitter as he accuses the social media giant of ‘resisting and thwarting’ his right to information about spam and fake accounts on the platform.

Musk threatened to walk away from his $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter Inc if the social media network fails to provide data on spam and fake accounts.

The billionaire made the warning in a letter to the company on Monday, June 6.

Musk said Twitter was in a “clear material breach” of its obligations and that he reserves all rights to terminate the merger agreement, the letter said.

This comes two months after Musk said he would put the deal ‘temporarily on hold,’ while he waited for the company to provide data on the proportion of its fake accounts.

The SpaceX CEO also tweeted last month that he ‘cannot move forward’ with his $44 billion purchase of the platform until he is provided the requested data.

In the letter to Twitter’s chief legal officer that was disclosed in a regulatory filing on Monday, Musk’s lawyers claimed its failure to provide more detail on bots and other fake accounts amounted to “a clear material breach” of Musk’s takeover agreement.

According to the letter.“Musk believes Twitter is transparently refusing to comply with its obligations under the merger agreement, which is causing further suspicion that the company is withholding the requested data due to concern for what Musk’s analysis of that data will uncover.”

“Musk believes the company is actively resisting and thwarting his information rights,” the letter by Musk’s lawyers said.

The letter, from lawyers at Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, said the Tesla chief believes Twitter has “refused to provide the information that [he] has repeatedly requested since May 9″, alleging that its refusal to explain how it detects fake accounts “is tantamount to refusing” the demands.

“Based on Twitter’s behaviour to date, and the company’s latest correspondence in particular, Mr Musk believes the company is actively resisting and thwarting his information rights (and the company’s corresponding obligations) under the merger agreement,” the letter claims.

“This is a clear material breach of Twitter’s obligations under the merger agreement and Mr Musk reserves all rights resulting therefrom, including his right not to consummate the transaction and his right to terminate the merger agreement.”

Twitter’s shares were 6 per cent lower in pre-market trading on Monday at $37.63, well below Musk’s $54.20 offer price.

US and South Korea launch eight missiles in response to North Korea (Video)

South Korea and the United States military have responded to North Korea’s launch of eight missiles by firing eight missiles into waters off the east coast of the Korean peninsula on Monday morning, June 6.

North Korea fired eight short-range ballistic missiles from multiple sites in the country into waters east of the Korean peninsula on Sunday, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who called the actions a “serious provocation that harms peace and stability of not only the Korean peninsula but also the international community.”

On Monday morning, seven missiles were fired by South Korea and one by the US, according to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, which said they demonstrated that “even if North Korea provokes with missiles from multiple locations, (South Korea and the US have) the ability and readiness to immediately strike with precision.”

The missile exchange comes as North Korea intensifies its provocations in the region, with reports indicating that Pyongyang is preparing a nuclear test.

It also comes almost a month after the election of new South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who has given a more aggressive tone toward North Korean aggression a departure from predecessor Moon Jae-in, who had promoted dialogue and peaceful reconciliation.

South Korea has fired back three times this year, after a hiatus since 2017.

North Korea’s launch on Sunday is its third missile test since the start of Yoon’s term and the 17th this year. Pyongyang’s previous launch occurred on May 25 as US President Joe Biden was returning to the US after a trip to Asia.

The missile launches are seen as a show of force and are not aimed at specific targets as the missiles land in the sea.

Vladmir Putin threatens to strike ‘new targets’ if NATO continues to supply missiles to Ukraine

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has threatened to strike ‘new targets’ if the US supplied long-range missiles to Ukraine, according to Russian state media.

According to Putin, delivering new arms to Kyiv only aims to “drag out the armed conflict for as long as possible,” Putin said in an interview to Rossiya-1 TV channel, Russian state media TASS reported on Sunday, June 5.

He said when it comes to Western deliveries of long-range missiles to Kyiv, Russia will draw “appropriate conclusions” and strike those “facilities” that it has not yet targeted, he said.

“If they are supplied, we will draw appropriate conclusions from this and use our own weapons, of which we have enough, in order to strike at those facilities we are not targeting yet,” Putin said, commenting on the situation regarding the supply of American multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Ukraine.

His comments come after US president Joe Biden on Tuesday, May 31, announced he will be sending new advanced missile systems to Ukraine which could alter the tide of the war to Ukraine’s favour.

Putin blamed the United States for “injecting large sums of money” into its economy as a means of combating the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, which led to inflation and an “unfavorable situation in the food market, because first of all, food prices went up.”

Putin also blamed “the short-sighted policy of European countries, and above all the European Commission, in the energy sector” as another reason for the crisis in food and energy market.

“Among other things, the Europeans did not listen to our urgent requests to preserve long-term contracts for the supply of the same natural gas to European countries, and they also began to (terminate the contracts) … This had a negative impact on the European energy market: Prices crept up. Russia has absolutely nothing to do with it,” he said.

As soon as gas prices went up, fertilizer prices “immediately increased, because some of these fertilizers are produced, including at the expense of gas. Everything is interconnected,” Putin added.

“But we warned about this, and this has nothing to do with any military operation of Russia,” Putin said.

David de Gea emerged as captain of Manchester United

David de Gea has reportedly emerged as the  favourite candidate to become Manchester United’s next captain.

Current skipper Harry Maguire came under pressure and was repeatedly dragged last season after a series of poor displays, with many questioning his ability to continue in the role.

According to the UK Sun, incoming manager Erik ten Hag is set to allow the players to choose who the captain should be, and de Gea is expected to get the nod from his team-mates.

Recall Maguire was rumored to be involved in a power struggle with star striker Cristiano Ronaldo back in February.

It was claimed that interim boss Ralf Rangnick considered speaking to the pair about the Portuguese forward taking on the armband for the rest of the season, but Maguire managed to retain his role in the end.

It is understood that Ronaldo would still be in the running to replace Maguire now, but de Gea is likely to get the captain armband if it comes down to a vote in the dressing room.

United Nations agrees to change Turkey’s official name to ‘Türkiye’

The United Nations has changed the Republic of Turkey’s country name at the organization from “Turkey” to  “Türkiye”, following a request from Ankara for the change.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that a letter had been received on Wednesday, June 1, from the Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu addressed to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, requesting the use of “Türkiye” instead of “Turkey” for all affairs.

The spokesman said the country name change became effective from the moment the letter was received.

Cavusoglu announced the letter’s official submission to the UN and other international organizations on Tuesday.

“Together with our Directorate of Communications, we have been successful in preparing a good ground for this,” said the letter.

“We have made it possible for the UN and other international organizations, countries to see this change to using ‘Türkiye’,” Cavusoglu told Anadolu Agency.

Turkey began the move to change its internationally recognized official name in English to Türkiye in December after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan released a memorandum and asked the public to use Türkiye to describe the country in every language.

“Türkiye is accepted as an umbrella brand for our country in national and international venues,” Erdogan said at the time. “Türkiye is the best representation and expression of the Turkish people’s culture, civilization, and values.”

Erdogan also advised companies to use “made in Türkiye” for their exported goods, and instructed state agencies to use Türkiye in their correspondence.

Russian invasion advances in Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky says Russia now controls 20% of his country.

According to the leader, Russia controls Ukranian territory ‘much greater’ than the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg combined.

His comments come as Russia’s war on Ukraine enters its 100th day on Friday, June 3

Vladimir Putin’s troops have set their sights on capturing eastern Ukraine since being repelled from around the capital Kyiv after their invasion began on 24 February.

While their advance has been much slower than Moscow expected, Russian troops have expanded their control beyond the 43,000 square kilometres (16,600 square miles) taken when Russia seized Crimea and parts of the Donbas in 2014.

“Today, about 20 per cent of our territory is under the control of the occupiers,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an address to Luxembourg lawmakers on Thursday.

Russia’s assault was killing up to 100 Ukrainian soldiers every day, Zelenskyy added.

Street fighting continues in the industrial hub of Severodonetsk in Lugansk, part of the Donbas. The strategic city is a key target for Moscow which already controls 80 per cent of the area, but Lugansk regional governor Sergiy Gaiday vowed Ukrainian forces would fight “until the end”.

Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the commander in chief of Ukraine’s armed forces assessed that “the most difficult situation is in the Lugansk region, where the enemy is trying to displace our units”.

He pleaded for modern armaments from NATO, telling France’s top general, Thierry Burkhard that “the enemy has a decisive advantage in artillery.”

“It will save the lives of our people”.

NBA Star, LeBron James becomes a Billionaire

Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar, LeBron James has become the first NBA player to become a billionaire while still actively playing.

Forbes‘ Chase Peterson-Withorn reported on Thursday, June 2, that James’ net worth surpassed the $1 billion mark after he earned $121.2 million in 2021.

According to Forbes, James is the highest-paid active player in the NBA, having earned more than $385 million in total salary from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers. The bulk of his worth comes via endorsements and business ventures totaling more than $900 million, including a lifetime deal with Nike that pays him tens of millions per year.

LeBron James

The four-time NBA champion was the second-highest paid athlete in 2021 behind soccer star Lionel Messi, earning $41.2 million from the Lakers and $80 million in off-the-court ventures.

LeBron in 2021 sold a minority stake in The SpringHill Company, his entertainment, and production company that was behind his movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy” which generated $162.9 million in worldwide sales, and his talk show “The Shop” which moved from HBO to YouTube – to a group of investors for what Forbes estimated to be $725 million.

LeBron James

An estimated breakdown of James’ fortune by Forbes shows he has a $300 million stake in SpringHill, where he remains the largest shareholder; $90 million in the Fenway Sports Group, which includes a minority stake in the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool F.C. and the Pittsburgh Penguins; $80 million in real estate. This includes homes in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and his hometown of Akron, Ohio; $30 million in Blaze Pizza, after a reported initial investment of less than $1 million; and more than $500 million in cash and other investments.

LeBron James

James, set to make $44.5 million next season in the second year of his two-year deal, has been selective in his investments, famously turning down massive offers from Reebok and Adidas as an 18-year-old to hold out for what proved to be a more lucrative deal with Nike.

LeBron James

In 2021, James confirmed his desire to become the owner of an NBA franchise.

“I got so much to give to the game. I know what it takes to win at this level. I know talent,” he told reporters. “I also know how to run a business as well. And so, that is my goal. My goal is to own an NBA franchise, and it will be sooner than later.”

LeBron James

If it happens, he’d be following in the footsteps of Michael Jordan, the owner of the Charlotte Hornets, who became the first NBA player to hit $1 billion in net worth after his on-court retirement.

Juan Mata to leave Manchester United at the end of this month

Manchester United has announced that Juan Mata will leave the club after eight years  when his contract expires at the end of the month.

The 34-year-old was signed by David Moyes from Premier League rivals Chelsea in January 2014 and went on to make 285 appearances for United, scoring 51 goals.

Mata’s first trophy at Old Trafford was the 2016 FA Cup under Louis van Gaal, while he also helped the side to the Europa League and League Cup under Jose Mourinho the following season.

In a statement confirming his departure, United said: “Thank you for dedicating eight years of your career to United, Juan. Everyone at the club wishes you all the best for the future.”

Mata struggled for games under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick this season, making just 12 appearances in all competitions.

He made his final appearance in our last fixture of the 2021/22 season, away to Crystal Palace on 22 May.

The Spaniard will exit the club along with Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, who United announced would also be leaving at their end of their contracts on Wednesday.

The departures of Mata, Pogba, and Lingard come at the same time as Erik ten Hag takes over as the new manager at United after leaving Ajax.

Taking to social media shortly after the announcement, Mata thanked fans for their support throughout his time at the club.

“From here, from the middle of the pitch at Old Trafford, at night. I’m alone. Actually, this feels like a dream,” he said in a video message.

“I wanted to say thank you very much to all of you for your support over the years and especially during the difficult times that we lived together. “I will never forget you. Thank you very much. All the best from the bottom of my heart and goodbye.”

Russian Immigration may deport Nigerian medical student over corruption

A Nigerian final year medical student at Irkutsk State Medical University (ISMU), Usman Yahaya, will be deported from Russia to Nigeria any moment from now.

Yahaya, a Sokoto State-born medical student has been in detention in Russia, for over a month.

Last week, PRNigeria reported that Yahaya, a recipient of the Best African Medical Student award at the Russian Centre for Scientific Research, was first suspended by the medical university when the Sokoto government could not pay his overdue scholarship.

He was thereafter detained at a Russian immigration camp at Angarsk Irkutsk, by authorities of the European nation’s Immigration due to corrupt practices at Sokoto Scholarship Board.

Yahaya’s travail was allegedly orchestrated by the Director of Foreign Students at the Sokoto State Scholarship Board, Kabiru Labaran who had been ‘pilfering’ substantial amounts from Yahaya’s foreign bursary approved yearly by the Sokoto State Government, since 2016.

The student has appeared twice at a Russian State court and if eventually convicted, Yahaya may be expelled from ISMU, detained or even banned from entering Russia, in the nearest future.

PRNigeria learnt that Yahaya, was on Thursday morning (June 2, 2022), accompanied by a staff of IMSU University and a police officer to the Russian Immigration office to sign a document, alleged to be a deportation form.

Recalled that the President of the Association of Nigerian Students in Europe (ANSE), Mr. Bashiru Muhammad, in a chat with PRNigeria last Sunday, called on Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to intervene in the plight of Yahaya.

Muhammad who is a student at the Coventry University expressed worry that Governor Tambuwal’s unwavering support and kind gesture for Sokoto students abroad will be undermined if proactive steps are not taken to quickly rescue Yahaya.

The ANSE President has been liaising with officials of the Russian university and the Sokoto government towards resolving the issue.

Meanwhile, the Head of Transparency International in Nigeria, an anti-corruption body, Mallam Auwal Musa Rafsanjani has called for the probe of the officers behind Yahaya’s ongoing ordeal in Sokoto.

Rafsanjani who is also the Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), appealed to Governor Tambuwal to intervene in the plight of the student.

He urged anti-corruption agencies to probe the allegation of bribery and corrupt practices at the Sokoto Scholarship Board.

“This is very unfortunate that the bright final year medical student in the finest medical university in Russia and from Sokoto is facing this painful dilemma when we are aware how our elites value the education of their children in the most expensive schools abroad.

“While we appeal to Governor Tambuwal of Sokoto, a state that has a shortage of qualified medical practitioners to intervene in the plight of poor students, we call on the EFCC and ICPC to investigate the corrupt practices at Sokoto Scholarship Board,” Rafsanjani said.

However, PRNigeria gathered that officials of the Sokoto State Government have allegedly been frustrating the intervention efforts of Tambuwal.

When contacted, Mallam. Isah Galadanchi, the Sokoto State Information Commissioner, told PRNigeria that Yahaya personally sought a transfer from a Sudanese University in Khartoum to Russia in 2014 without adequate guidance from the scholarship board.

He, however, said: “The Governor is in Abuja now. But I can assure you that we will meet with him whenever he returns, and plead with him to intervene in Yahaya’s case, on compassionate grounds.”

Ivan Perisic signs a two-year deal with Tottenham

Premier League side, Tottenham have completed the signing of Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old Croatian international who can play as a winger, attacking midfielder, second striker, or wing-back, signed a two-year contract on Tuesday, May 31, to become one of Antonio Conte’s first signings of the summer window.

After signing for the club,  Perisic told Spurs’ official website; “When I got in contact with the coach and the sporting director, I told them I had really wanted to come to the Premier League since 2009 when I started playing professional football in Belgium.”

“It’s a privilege to work with a coach like Antonio. It was a perfect year at Inter, I am very pleased to see him again. He lives football every minute, every hour and every day, even when he’s sleeping he’s thinking about it.

“I was watching the last two or three games and, after the win against Arsenal, it was obvious Tottenham would reach the Champions League, and it was good for me because I want to play in the biggest games.”

Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta admits he was keen to keep Perisic this summer, but was unable to convince him to extend his stay in Milan.

“There is regret,” Marotta said on Monday. “But he wanted to try a new experience in the Premier League.

“We were not in a position to make better offers, simply his choice was based on a different future than the current one. Maximum respect for that and a big thank you to him as well.”

Perisic, who has 113 caps for Croatia and scored in the 2018 World Cup final, had been at Inter since 2015. He won Serie A last season under Tottenham head coach Conte after spending the 2019-20 season on loan at Bayern Munich where he lifted the Champions League.

Gossip: Kim Kardashian may have pursued Pete Davidson mainly for s3x

Kim Kardashian has finally revealed that she pursued comedian Pete Davidson mainly for sex.

The reality star made this known during the eighth episode of The Kardashians.

The mother-of-four said she wasn’t looking for a relationship when she first hooked up with the 28-year-old comedian.

She added that she had heard about his “BDE” (big d**k energy) and she was simply “DTF” (down to f**k).

She also hinted at having the best sex of her life with Davidson, while adding that he’s simply the “best human” she’s met.

The conversation began with Kim listening to a conversation between her nephew Mason and her daughter North.

Mason, Kourtney’s first son, was telling North how cool Travis Barker, now his stepfather, is.

Kim recounted Mason’s statement about Travis to her mother Kris.

Kim said: “I overheard their convo and Mason goes, ‘Can you drop me off at Travis’ studio?'”

Kim continued: “He was like, ‘It’s so cool’ and he was telling North, ‘they have these bikes and it’s just so fun.’ His tune has totally changed since the engagement.

“‘I heard him say to North, he was like, ‘You know, getting a step-dad is not so bad. They’re not these evil people like you see in the movies.”

Kim told Kris that the way Mason was talking to North gave her the feeling that, “everything would work out” for Kourtney and Travis.

Kim then said in her confessional: “I think after hearing this conversation with Mason and North, and just hearing how he’s getting along with Travis and just loving having someone else around, I just think OK there’s hope. Someday I’ll have someone who’ll come around and hang out with the kids.”

A producer for The Kardasians then asks Kim: “So are you dating Pete? Why have you been so secretive?”

Kim responds: “Honestly, I just feel like I wanted to really make sure and not just be so like… ‘Oh my God I met someone and I’m having fun.’ And then just start talking about it on a show and then if we weren’t talking months later I’d be like an idiot, or a wh**e, either one.”

British Govt set to deport its first batch of illegal migrants and refugees to Rwanda

The first flight deporting illegal migrants and refugees from the United Kingdom to Rwanda will leave on June 14, the country’s Home Secretary, Priti Sushil Patel, announced on Thursday.

To that effect, a group of asylum seekers in the UK has been sent formal notices that they will be deported to Rwanda.

In a Home Office statement, the spokesperson said that they have begun issuing formal removal direction letters to those who are set to go to Rwanda where they will be able to rebuild their lives in safety.

The statement noted that the flight to Rwanda deporting migrants and refugees who came to the UK without authorisation is set to leave on the 14th of this month and deportees have been sent notices.

Presently, there are few details about how many people will be sent to Rwanda on June, or how they have been identified.

This also comes in the midst of strong criticism from charities and organisations over the plans, as well as legal challenges the government are set to face regarding the decision.

Legal Challenges and Criticisms

Officials form the UN have said that the Rwanda deportation plans violate the International Refugee Convention, while human rights groups have called the deal inhumane and a waste of taxpayer’s money.

The UK is believed to have paid Rwanda around 120 million pounds upfront to put the plans in action.

Meanwhile, The Public and Commercial Services Union, which represents civil servants, has joined forces with refugee advocacy groups to demand transparency from the Home Office on their methods of selecting migrants for deportation.

The union has also pressured the government regarding doubts of how much the plans actually comply with both domestic law and the Geneva Convention.

Last week, prime minister Boris Johnson reaffirmed his commitment to the plan despite these challenges.

“Of course, there are going to be legal eagles, liberal lawyers, who will try to make this difficult to settle.

“We always knew this was going to happen, but it is a very, very sensible thing,” he told reporters in Southampton.

“Completely Unworkable” and “Deeply Un-British”

The deportation announcement was met with further criticism from the shadow home secretary, Yvette Cooper.

“The Rwanda scheme isn’t about deterring the criminal gangs or small boat crossings, it’s about chasing headlines regardless of reality,” she said in a statement.

“This is a completely unworkable, extortionately expensive, and deeply un-British policy. There is no proper process for identifying people who have been trafficked or tortured.”

However, Priti Patel has maintained that deporting asylum seekers to migrants is “a key part of our strategy to overhaul the broken asylum system”.

She said that she “will not be deterred and remain fully committed to delivering what the British public expect.”

The Home Office has stated that they are speaking with all individuals set to be deported, ensuring that they understand the process and that they are being given appropriate support before being sent to Rwanda.
