WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, has said he should not be mentioned in the same category as Tyson Fury because he achieved so much in a shorter time frame compared to Fury.
Both heavyweight boxers have agreed financial terms on a two-fight deal, due to take place next year but Joshua, 30 believes Fury, 32, is ‘five or six years’ ahead of him in boxing terms.
Speaking to GQ Middle East, AJ said: “Being world champion, with all those knockouts, you do feel kind of unstoppable.
“But realistically, in boxing terms, I’m way ahead of where I should be. I’m working at such a quick pace. I shouldn’t even be in a position where I’m mentioned in Tyson Fury’s era.
“He’s five or six years ahead of me in terms of turning professional. In fact, when he was turning pro, I was just putting on my gloves for the first time.”
Fury became the number one ranked boxer in the heavyweight division after humiliating Deontay Wilder for the WBC title in February, but Joshua says he does not view Fury as a ‘massive threat’.
“Tyson needs educating. All of us athletes do.” Joshua continued.
“We often didn’t go far in school, so a lot of our comments and actions aren’t great. But let’s talk about him as a boxer.
“I don’t find him intimidating and I haven’t seen him do anything in the ring where I think, ‘this guy is going to be a massive threat’.
“He’s talented and he’s awkward, and that’s often enough to get you quite far in life.”
The male-determining Y chromosome could be dying out and this has prompted discussion of whether men could disappear with it.
The Y chromosome has far fewer genes than the X and research suggests it’s gradually shrinking even further.
A person’s sex is determined by whether they have two X chromosomes (which causes ovaries to develop) or an X and a Y (which results in testes).
X has approximately 1,000 genes while Y has just 45 and research suggests the Y chromosome is gradually shrinking even further.
Genes develop mutations over time, some of which are harmful. Chromosome can avoid passing on such harmful mutations by mixing and matching with each other during meiosis — the stage of foetal development during which our forming bodies develop sperm or eggs.
This process breaks up the genes and makes it more likely that only strong, non-harmful ones get passed on.
However, only X chromosomes can swap with each other, while Y isn’t similar enough to combine.
Because individuals don’t (generally) have two Y chromosomes, Y can’t recombine with itself and thus it has become smaller and smaller over millions of years of evolution.
Research conducted by Jennifer Graves, a geneticist at La Trobe University in Melbourne, suggests that 166 million years ago the Y chromosome had a similar number of genes as X, approximately 1,669.
“So it doesn’t take a great brain to realise that if the rate of loss is uniform —10 genes per million years — and we’ve only got 45 left, the whole Y will disappear in 4.5 million years,” she told Live Science.
Research suggests the rate of degradation has slowed over time, and that the human Y chromosome has lost only one gene since humans and rhesus monkeys diverged 25 million years ago.
But losing the Y chromosome completely is still a possibility, as it’s happened to other species including underground rodents called mole voles, as well as certain species of spiny rats in Japan.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that men are doomed, as the loss of the Y chromosome doesn’t erase the male sex from a species as both spiny rats and mole voles still have males and females.
“People think that sex is sort of a very determined thing,” said Rasmus Nielsen, a geneticist at the University of California, Berkeley.
“That if you have a Y chromosome, then you’re a man, or you don’t have [a] Y chromosome, then you’re female. But it doesn’t work like that.”
“In truth, 95% of genes that are expressed differently between males and females don’t actually live on the X and Y chromosomes.
“Losing the Y chromosome doesn’t mean losing the male,” Nielsen explained.
If the Y chromosome was to vanish, another gene would likely take over as the main determinant of sex during human development.
A father was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and two teenage sons “because he had a headache and was tired of them yelling.”
James Lee Webb, 57, was arrested and charged with capital murder after calling the cops on himself on Monday, August 31, 2020.
Webb and his wife, Victoria Ronack Bunton, began arguing at around 10am on Monday morning after he complained of having a headache and that her sons, aged 13 and 16, were being too loud, according to the affidavit.
During the argument Webb allegedly produced a handgun and shot Bunton, before killing both of the teenagers.
Webb waited one hour and then called 911 and confessed, the document states.
When cops arrived they took him into custody. When he was later interviewed, Webb allegedly told a detective that he was tired of his family yelling at him and telling him there was nothing wrong with him.
He is currently being held at Lew Sterrett Jail and his bond will be determined by a Dallas County Magistrate.
Neighbor Chanel Lockhart told Fox4: “Last time I saw her, she was getting groceries out of the car and the boys were helping her.
“You would never think that he would do that. And she had a heart. She was so sweet to everybody.
“You’d never think that one day he would call and say he killed his kids.”

The Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) has suspended the membership of West African nation Mali, increasing international pressure on the military junta that seized power in Mali last week after a coup d’etat that ousted Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse from power.

Now the leadership of OIF has suspended Mali after holding a meeting via video conference, saying that the body would maintain any cooperation with the Malian junta that would help the civilian population and aid a transition to democracy.
The OIF in a statement also called for the liberation of the ousted president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and called for the establishment, as soon as possible, of “a transition government led by an civilian authority”.
The decision by OIF comes a day after envoys from the West African bloc ECOWAS led by former Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan and the new Malian military rulers failed to agree on a timetable to return Mali to democratic rule.
OIF’s suspension comes after ECOWAS suspended Mali from it’s membership saying the coup was unconstitutional.
On Tuesday August 25th, Ecowas and the Military rulers said they had failed to reach agreement after ECOWAS announced that one of it’s requirement was to return Keita to power.
But the military Junta said that won’t be possible because Keita no longer wanted to be restored to power.
Keita was elected in 2013 and re-elected for a second term in 2018 but failed in his fight against Islamic terrorism, ceding a large portion of the country to terrorist control.
This situation plus an already damaged and fragile economy increased frustrations among Malians towards his rule.

US President, Donald Trump, has lambasted his rival, Joe Biden saying his policies for the country are anti-America and he will only destroy America’s greatness if he is elected.
Trump, speaking from the South Lawn of the White House in Washington on Friday August 28, after accepting the Republican party’s nomination for president, disclosed that the November election “will decide whether we will defend the American way of life or whether we will allow a radical movement to completely dismantle and destroy it.”
Trump, who trails Biden in national polls, devoted much of his speech to a blistering attack on his Democratic opponent, calling him a “Trojan horse” for far left radicals and anarchists who want to destroy the country as cheers from the 1000 strong audience hailed him.
“This is the most important election in the history of our country.” Trump said.
“Biden is not a savior of America’s soul. He is the destroyer of America’s jobs. And if given the chance, he will be the destroyer of American greatness.”
“For 47 years, Joe Biden took the donations of blue-collar workers, gave them hugs and even kisses,” Trump said. “And told them he felt their pain. And then he flew back to Washington and voted to ship our jobs to China and many other distant lands.”
The president also labelled Biden a puppet of China.
“Joe Biden’s agenda is made in China. My agenda is made in the USA,” Trump said.

The U.S. Marshals Service found 39 missing children in Georgia following a two-week rescue mission known as “Operation Not Forgotten.”
The agency announced in a press release on Thursday, August 27, that the operation led to the rescue of 26 children and the safe location of 13 others. Nine suspects have also been arrested.
“These missing children were considered to be some of the most at-risk and challenging recovery cases in the area, based on indications of high-risk factors such as victimization of child sex trafficking, child exploitation, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and medical or mental health conditions,” the press release reads.
“Other children were located at the request of law enforcement to ensure their wellbeing,” the release continues. “USMS investigators were able to confirm each child’s location in person and assure their safety and welfare.”
Nine criminal associates were also arrested and investigators cleared 26 arrest warrants. Investigators also filed additional charges for alleged crimes related to sex trafficking, parental kidnapping, registered sex offender violations, drugs and weapons possession, and custodial interference, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Among those taken into custody is a man named Moradeyo Amos Bandele. He was arrested in Port St. Lucie on a warrant for rape out of Conyers, Georgia.
Other suspects include, Trevonte Shareef, Kirk Waters, Stanson Causey, Zachary Bailey, Sally Garcia, Faye Smith, James Garcia, and Trayon Moore.
“When we track down fugitives, it’s a good feeling to know that we’re putting the bad guy behind bars. But that sense of accomplishment is nothing compared to finding a missing child,” Darby Kirby, chief of the Missing Child Unit, said in a statement.
“We are working to protect them and get them the help they need,” he said.
The USMS said that last year it helped recover 295 missing children and has contributed to the recovery of a missing child in 75 percent of cases. Sixty-six percent of recovered missing children were recovered within a week of the USMS helping with the case, according to the release.
“The message to missing children and their families is that we will never stop looking for you,” director of the Marshals Service, Donald Washington, said in a statement.
A former prison guard who smuggled drugs into jail in her underwear has been jailed for three years.
27-year-old Hannah Gaves from Bristol was stopped and searched while on her way to work at Erlestoke Prison, Wiltshire on the 27th of January last year.
Officials found Cocaine concealed in her underwear and she was also in possession of black bags containing cannabis, five packets of tobacco and Rizzlas.
The Erlestoke Prison, where Gaves worked as a guard, had received intelligence that she was smuggling articles into the prison. She was also suspected of having “inappropriate relations” with an inmate and was smuggling the drugs on his behalf, Wiltshire Police said.
Gaves was arrested and a further search of her home saw money and herbal cannabis seized.
She pleaded guilty to a string of drug offences on Friday, August 28, at Salisbury Crown Court. These included possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, possession with intent to supply a Class B drug, and attempt to bring tobacco behind bars.
Gaves was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £170.
Detective Sergeant Garry Epps, from the Crime Targeting Team, said: ‘There is simply no tolerance for the behaviour shown by Gaves in this case.
‘The custodial sentence that has been given further highlights the severity of Gaves’ actions and we hope acts as a deterrent to anyone who thinks they may be able to get away with anything similar.
There is no excuse for ever falling into such activities and we will always act strongly against anyone attempting to take drugs or any form of contraband into our prisons.’
Local Inspector Chris Martin said: ‘We will always act on intelligence given to us and not only patrol the parameters of the prison robustly but also the comings and goings inside the prison as well.
‘This case highlights the ongoing partnership work between Wiltshire Police and staff at HMP Erlestoke to disrupt the illegal supply of drugs into the prison.’
Det Sgt Garry Epps said: “There is simply no tolerance for the behaviour shown by Gaves in this case.
“The custodial sentence that has been given further highlights the severity of Gaves’ actions and we hope acts as a deterrent to anyone who thinks they may be able to get away with anything similar.
A sheep bred by a family in Stockport, UK, has sold for a whopping $490,000 at an auction.
The sheep breed known as Texel is now officially the most expensive sheep in the world.
The Texel sheep named Diamond was sold this week at the Scottish National Texel Sale in Lanark after being bred by Charlie Boden and family from their Mellor Hall farm.
During the auction, the price of the sheep quickly escalated from an opening bid of $9,000 to an eye whooping $490,000.
The animal was finally bought by a three-way partnership between three farmers who have decided to breed the animal together.
The Texel Sheep Society said the previous record was £231,000 paid for a Texel, Deveronvale Perfection, in 2009.
According to the sheep society, Texel sheep originate from the island of Texel, one of the north-western islands off Holland and now dominate the UK sheep industry.
Jeff Aiken, flock manager at Procters Farm, one of the buyers, said: “The Texel for a start is the best breed in the UK and the pedigree side of it is getting bigger.
“If you want the best you have to try and buy the best.
“It’s an exceptional animal and the best Texel sheep I’ve ever seen. Hopefully he’ll do a good job on all three flocks.”
According to Aiken the price is a ‘one-off’. He emphasized that he did not want to give the wrong impression of the farming industry.
“There’s a small percentage of pedigree buyers that can club together and pay big money, but at the end of the day the commercial farmers are just as important if not more important – they are putting food on our tables,” he said.
“I’m in the fortunate position that I can spend that sort of money.”

According to report, the music streaming giant Spotify has the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in its sights and are hoping to sign them up following the success of Michelle Obama’s podcast, which launched last month.
Sources told The Mirror that money was “no object” for Spotify, which is worth £22billion, and that Meghan would be able to name her price.

Brenton Tarrant, the 29 year old far-right terrorist who killed 51 Muslim worshipers in New Zealand’s worst mass shooting in modern history, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The sentence, which is the first type of sentence to be handed down in the country’s courts, was passed on Thursday August 27, after Tarrant, an Australian citizen, pled guilty earlier this year to murdering men, women and children at two Christchurch mosques on March 15, 2019. The youngest victim was just three years old.
On March 15, Tarrant made the 4.5 hour drive from the South Island city of Dunedin to Christchurch, around 360 km (220 miles) away.
At about 1.30 p.m. that day, as worshipers were taking part in Friday prayers, Tarrant sent a message to his family outlining his plans. He then activated a GoPro on his vest and began live streaming to Facebook.
Tarrant drove to Al Noor Mosque in an inner-city Christchurch suburb, where he killed 44 people and wounded 35.
Tarrant then sped 4 miles to the Linwood Islamic Centre where he killed seven people and injured another five.
As he ran back to his car for more ammunition, he was chased by a man Abdul Aziz Wahabazadah who threw an EFTPOS machine at the Tarrant’s head. Wahabazadah also picked up a rifle Tarrant had dropped and threw it at Tarrant’s car, shattering a glass panel. Tarrant was on his way to a third scene in Ashburton, a town around an hour’s drive from Christchurch, but was stopped by police who rammed his car and arrested him without resistance.
The Christchurch attack, unprecedented in New Zealand, prompted New Zealand to ban military-style semi-automatic weapons.
Tarrant, the first person in New Zealand to be convicted of terrorism, pled guilty to 40 counts of attempted murder and one charge of terrorism.
New Zealand abolished the death penalty for murder in 1961, so he couldn’t be sentenced to death.
Justice Cameron Mander, announcing the conviction on Thursday, turned to Tarrant and asked him if he wanted to speak. “No. Thank you,” Tarrant quietly replied.
Justice Mander then read the names of every victim, telling Tarrant about the lives he destroyed.
“You showed no mercy. It was brutal and beyond callous — your actions were inhumane,” Mander told Tarrant.
“As far as I am able to gauge you are empty of any empathy to your victims,” Mander added. “You have said you were in a poisoned emotional state at the time, and terribly unhappy. You felt ostracized by society and wanted to damage society as revenge.”
After his sentencing, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said;
“Today I hope is the last where we have any cause to hear or utter the name of the terrorist behind it,” said Ardern, who has made a point of not saying extremist’s name. “His deserves to be a lifetime of complete and utter silence.”
Thursday’s sentence came at the end of a four-day hearing at Christchurch High Court where 91 survivors and relatives of the victims described the pain Tarrant had inflicted on the Muslim community as Tarrant sat quietly, showing no emotion.
The United States has imposed sanctions on 24 Chinese companies for helping the Chinese government build structures in the South China Sea, an action that will surely increase tension between the US and China, who already have a damaged relationship.
The sanction, is the first action of its kind by the US against China over the disputed South China Sea.
The US Commerce Department, in a statement said the 24 Chinese state-owned companies especially the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), played a “role in helping the Chinese military construct and militarize the internationally condemned artificial islands in the South China Sea” and “must be held responsible.”
The companies will be added to the Commerce Department’s Entity List, according to the statement. American firms will be restricted from selling US goods and technology to them without a special license.
The State Department also announced visa restrictions on Chinese individuals “responsible for, or complicit in, either the large-scale reclamation, construction, or militarization of disputed outposts in the South China Sea, or the PRC’s use of coercion against Southeast Asian claimants to inhibit their access to offshore resources.”
Under the visa restrictions, the individuals and their immediate families will not be allowed into the US.
The State Department did not name the officials or specify how many of them are subject to the restrictions.
Bilateral relations between Washington and Beijing are at their lowest following the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Trump administration has previously sanctioned Chinese companies and officials over Beijing’s crackdown on Muslim minorities in the Xinjiang region, tightening control on Hong Kong and national security concerns over varying forms of advanced technology.
The US sanctions come, years after Beijing started to accelerate its construction and militarization of artificial islands in the strategic South China sea also claimed by Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines.
US Democratic presidential nominee, Joe Biden, has rejected a suggestion from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that he should not debate President Donald Trump ahead of the elections.
Trump and Biden are scheduled for debates on September 29, October 15 and October 22 and on Thursday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., speaking during a news conference at the Capitol in Washington said Trump would “probably act in a way that is beneath the dignity of the presidency,” recalling what she termed his “disgraceful” actions during the 2016 debates with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“I wouldn’t legitimize a conversation with him, nor a debate in terms of the presidency of the United States,” Pelosi said.
But Biden has responded saying he will debate Trump but fact check all his statements while on stage.
“I’m going to debate him. I am going to be the fact-checker on the stage while I’m debating him,” Biden said to MSNBC.
The former vice president added, “I think everybody knows that this man has a somewhat pathological tendency not to tell the truth.”
With 67 days left until the 2020 election, Biden tops Trump in major polls ahead of the election due to the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed 180,000 people in the United States — the most reported by any country, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
Biden’s poll numbers are similar to Hillary Clinton’s own in 2016 before she infamously lost to Trump.
English footballer, Gareth Barry has retired as the Premier League’s all-time record appearance holder at the age of 39 with 653 top-flight games.
During his 22-year career, the midfielder played for the likes of Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton and West Brom. Barry netted 53 goals and produced 64 assists.

A Nigerian man, Kaycee Madu has made history after being appointed a Minister of Justice in Alberta, Canada.
Premier Jason Kenney on Tuesday August 25, elevated Madu to the justice portfolio from Municipal Affairs in a cabinet shuffle that saw Calgary-Elbow MLA Doug Schweitzer move from justice to an economic portfolio.
With the appointment, Madu is now the first Black Canadian to occupy either provincial or federal justice positions of the justice minister, attorney general or solicitor general.
Kenney said;
“This effectively takes the Economic Development, Trade and Tourism portfolio (and) renames it. Additional functions will be added to the ministry over the weeks and months that come.
“This is a broadened and expanded ministry. Alberta is being hit especially hard with the double whammy of the global coronavirus recession, on top of that the collapse of energy prices which has clobbered our largest industry — oil and gas.”

Kevin Mayer, the chief executive of the Chinese-owned video app TikTok, has resigned from his position amid US pressure for its Chinese owner to sell the popular video app to an American company.
In a letter to employees, the American businessman said that his decision to leave comes after the “political environment has sharply changed.”
His resignation comes after US President Donald Trump ordered a ban on TikTok, unless parent company Bytedance sells its US operations to an American company within 90 days over claims that the popular video app presents a national security threat that could share information about users with China`s government.
“I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for,” he said in the letter. “Against this backdrop, and as we expect to reach a resolution very soon, it is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company.”
Mayer, a former Disney executive, joined TikTok as CEO in May.
“We appreciate that the political dynamics of the last few months have significantly changed what the scope of Kevin’s role would be going forward, and fully respect his decision. We thank him for his time at the company and wish him well,” TikTok said in a statement

Greek Prosecution lawyer, Loannis Paradissis, has slammed Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire’s account of his arrest on the Greek island of Mykonos.
Maguire was arrested this week after allegedly assaulting police officers while holiday in with friends and family in Greece.
The brawl allegedly started as a result of two Albanian men injecting the defender’s sister with a date-rape drug. He was found guilty of charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery after the incident, but claims he is innocent as he thought he was being kidnapped.
Maguire, who is appealing the suspended prison sentence he was handed, with the backing of Manchester United, sat down with the BBC on Thursday August 28, his first interview since the verdict, and claimed that he was scared for his life as he thought he and his friends were being kidnapped, adding that he tried to run away after being assaulted by a police officer.
Paradissis, however, believes none of Maguire’s account, slamming it as ‘ridiculous’. According to the lawyer, Maguire’s actions on the night were “not those of an honourable man”.
Speaking to MailOnline, the prosecutor said: “I’ve seen and read what Maguire said and it’s ridiculous and only adds further insult to the harm he caused the policemen he attacked and the Greek justice system as a whole.
“Maguire claims that he feared he was being kidnapped yet his response is to run away and call his agent, leaving behind his fiancee, brothers and sister and childhood friends. Even if you accepted this as true, which I don’t, these are not the actions of an honourable man.
“If I was his fiancee or any of the others in the group, I would be very angry with him for leaving them behind and would want him to do some explaining.”
Maguire, of course, claimed that his actions were made out of panic, having said in his interview: “They started hitting us, he got one of my hands in the handcuff and he was hitting my leg saying, ‘Your career’s over, no more football, you won’t play again’.
“At that point I thought there’s no chance these are police, I don’t know who they are, I tried to run away. I was in that much of a panic, fear. I was scared for my life.”
Paradissis, on the other hand, feels that Maguire should have known what was happening to him.
He said: “Maguire claims that when the minibus stopped, he did not know that it was outside a police station. I would urge all people to have a look at Mykonos police station. It is clearly obvious what this place is either during the day or night.
“There are many police cars parked outside it at night, there is a sign stating that it is a police station and there are officers coming in and outside of the building. The only way you would not be able tell if it was not a police station is if you are very drunk.
“Clearly, he was not that drunk, because according to him he was able to fight off a group of men who he thought were kidnappers and try and escape. If he had the clarity of mind to do that then obviously, he would have also been able to see that the minibus had pulled up outside a police station.”
In the initial statement given by Maguire’s friends, they said two Albanian men injected the centre-back’s sister with a date-rape drug, but Paradissis brought into question as to why the BBC did not press Maguire on how he and his friends ascertained the nationality of the attackers.
“Why didn’t the BBC press him further on this,” he said. “How did Maguire and his group know that these men were Albanian? Is the Manchester United captain and those with him experts on Albanian culture and people? Do they speak Albanian?
“In his interview, Maguire makes no reference to Albanians, as his friend did in court and others did in his group? Why is this? Why is their story now that it was simply two men and noting about Albanians? Why did the journalist not question him further about this?”
Maguire also stated in his interview that he will not apologise to the Greek police as he has done nothing wrong.
“Where is our apology for his behaviour? Three policemen were injured and had to be treated at hospital,” Paradissis said.
“A rich man came to Mykonos and thought that he could behave how he wants. He then goes on an international television channel to justify his actions and there is not a single apology to us in anything he says.”
Prosecutors are planning to seek a harsher sentence for ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is one of four charged for the murder of George Floyd.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison informed Peter Cahill, the judge in Floyd murder case he will be seeking a harsher sentence for Chauvin, for several reasons.
The Minnesota Attorney General says the murder was “especially heinous” because Floyd was killed in front of children.
In the legal docs, Ellison noted that Floyd was in a “particularly vulnerable” state because he was handcuffed and chest down on the pavement, repeatedly telling Chauvin and the other officers he could not breathe.
His decision to seek a harsher sentence comes after recent bodycam footage was released showing Floyd pleading for officers to not shoot him.
“The more video evidence you see, the more unjustifiable George Floyd’s torture and death at the hands of the police becomes,” the family’s attorney Ben Crump said in the statement.
“Although the allegation against George was for a non-violent offense involving a $20 bill, the police officers approached him with guns drawn, simply because he was a Black man. As this video shows, he never posed any threat. The officers’ contradictions continue to build. If not for the videos, the world might never have known about the wrongs committed against George Floyd.”
Chauvin is facing up to 40 years in prison if convicted of the second-degree murder charge. His former colleagues, J. Alexander Kueng, Tou Thao, and Thomas Lane, are each charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.
Floyd died in Minneapolis police custody on May 25 after officer Derek Chauvin pinned him to the ground and kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes, ignoring his repeated cries of ‘I can’t breathe.’

The National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye has disclosed that 40 herbal drugs are currently undergoing a review as possible Coronavirus cure.
Adeyeye who disclosed that the herbal drugs are undergoing review to ensure their safety for use, averred that if the herbal drugs are not properly reviewed it could kill fast.
She noted that there is still no cure for Coronavirus and also warned against claims affirming such.
The NAFDAC DG said;
“In March 2019, we inaugurated the Nigerian Herbal Medicine Product Committee (HMPC) to bridge the gap often created between traditional medicine practitioners and researchers.
“COVID-19 pandemic created an opportunity and we have been encouraging traditional medicine practitioners to submit their herbal formulations for evaluation.
“We also developed guidelines on how to register herbal medicine online and the labelling of the product.
“Prof. Maurice Iwu’s application for approval of a herbal medicine for management of COVID-19, is also part of the 40 applications we are reviewing for safety.
“We use animal for safety test to ensure the formulation will not kill anybody.
“Until a clinical trial is done in a scientific manner, no herbal medicine manufacturer can claim cure or effectiveness to treat COVID-19 associated symptoms.
“I believe that Nigeria’s herbal medicines may be able to cure COVID-19.
“They have a lot of potential and it is time to translate research of herbs into products of proven safety and efficacy, for the benefit of our people.”
India has seen a large spike in number of new Coronavirus cases after 77,226 infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day caseload in the world.
India now has a total of more than 3.38 million cases since the start of the pandemic with 46 percent of infections detected in August alone.
The country also reported 1,057 new deaths, the Health Ministry said earlier today, taking the total to 61,529.
The figures show that India has been recording more than 60,000 new daily infections since August 7, the highest single-day caseload in the world every day for three weeks.
The country’s previous highest daily count was 75,760 recorded on Wednesday, August 26.
India now has the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the World after the United States and Brazil.
A nature lover who reared two rare white lions from when they were cubs was mauled to death by them in a horror attack.
Conservationist West Mathewson, 68, was playfully wrestling his beloved lionesses Demi and Tanner on Wednesday, August 26, when one of them turned on him.
His wife Gill, 65, attempted to save her husband by distracting the 400lb lionnesses, but they had already inflicted fatal injuries.
He was badly injured and died from his injuries on his way to the hospital.
This isn’t the first time the lionesses have killed someone. In 2017, they clawed a farm worker to death at Mr Mathewson’s safari known as Tree Top Lodge at Hoedspruit near South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
However, West Mathewson had continued to playfight and exercise them every day, believing they would never attack him.

Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe, 65, has announced his resignation after his eight-year stint in power due to ill health amid reports he had been vomiting blood.
Abe, 65, who made the announcement on Friday August 28, said he had suffered a relapse of a chronic bowel condition -saying he had ‘lost a lot of his energy and strength’ and would need regular medical treatment that would prevent him from tackling the Coronavirus crisis.
‘I have been struggling with my illness and I have to get treatment. Poor health should not lead to wrong political decisions,’ he told a press conference.
Speculation about the Prime Minister’s health started after he made several visits to a Tokyo hospital in the space of one week.

Two men have been confirmed dead in the helicopter crash that occurred at the Opebi area of Ikeja, Lagos State on Friday August 28.

England manager, Gareth Southgate has axed Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire from the England squad after he was found guilty of assaulting police, verbal abuse, and attempted bribery following a brawl at the Greek holiday island of Mykonos.
The England international, 27, was convicted of all charges on Tuesday and was handed a 21 month and ten-day sentence suspended for three years by a court on the island of Syros, in Greece.
Maguire’s brother, Joe who plays for non-league team Ilkeston Town, was also found guilty of assault, attacking police and attempted bribery while a third man, 29-year-old Christopher Sharman, was guilty of two assault charges and another of verbal abuse.
The pair were given suspended sentences of 13 months after being found guilty. Read previous report here and here.
Southgate, who previously named Maguire in his squad despite his legal woes, said in a statement this evening: ‘In light of this evening’s developments, I can confirm I have withdrawn Harry Maguire from the England squad for the matches against Iceland and Denmark.
‘As I said earlier today, I reserved the right to review the situation. Having spoken to Manchester United and the player, I have made this decision in the best interests of all parties and with consideration of the impact on our preparations for next week.’

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 607 cartons containing 11,785,800 tramadol tablets in Lagos.
NDLEA’s spokesperson, Mr Jonah Achema confirmed this on Wednesday August 26, and also disclosed that the Chairman of the agency, Muhammad Abdallah said the interception and investigation were with the assistance and cooperation of the Customs Area Command, Apapa.
Abdallah said;
‘This was discovered in another container number TCNU 9465832 belonging to the same suspect transferred to NDLEA by the Police.
‘This is making it 3 containers used to carefully conceal illegally imported tramadol and other medicines to Nigeria.’
NDLEA’s chairman also noted that the recent discovery of more tramadol using the same route from Pakistan Asia – Hamburg, Europe – Nigeria showed the dynamic system of operation by the drug cartel to beat security operatives.
Zimbabwe has made it illegal for schools to expel pupils who get pregnant, a measure aimed at tackling gender inequality in the classroom and discouraging many girls from dropping out of school.
According to Zimbabwean media, a legal amendment was announced last week and it seeks to reinforce a 1999 guideline that was patchily implemented.
The decision was reportedly made over fears of a rise in sexual abuse and unwanted pregnancies as schools have been closed since the Coronavirus pandemic struck.
Many parents of pregnant girls, or the girls themselves, decide to quit schooling due to the pregnancy, and schools do not always do enough to encourage them to stay, officials say.
“I’m expecting every parent and guardian and everyone else to understand that every child must be assisted by all of us to go to school,” Cain Mathema, the education minister in charge of schools, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation this week
“Every child whether boy or girl… has a right to go to school in Zimbabwe,” he said.
In 2018, 12.5% of the country’s roughly 57,500 school dropouts stopped attending classes due to pregnancy or marriage reasons – almost all of them girls, according to Education Ministry statistics.
Sibusisiwe Ndlovu, the communications specialist at Plan International Zimbabwe welcomed the new legislation as a step in the right direction.
“This amendment is crucial in fulfilling the access to education right for all children – especially girls,” Ndlovu said.
Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye has disclosed that Chloroquine kills Coronavirus in its early stage.
Adeyeye who also revealed that reliable researches and reports shows that Remdesivir kills the virus at late stages, added that the cost for treating people with chloroquine was way cheaper than with Remdesivir.
Speaking in a virtual news conference in Abuja on Tuesday August 25, the NAFDAC DG noted that countries in West Africa like Ghana, Togo, and Senegal have also embraced the clinical use of Chloroquine for treatment.
She said;
“In March 20, this year, just before the lockdown, I had a press briefing. At that time, people did not understand what clinical trial treatment meant. Once they hear treatment, they think you can use it anyhow. But clinical trial treatment is a research study to see whether the drug will work or not.
“In the press briefing, I said I was going through literature to see what others have done and I saw in a particular literature a reliable publication of an article about Chloroquine and Remdesivir (that time nobody was even talking of Remdesivir). This was February of this year.
“They said in the cell culture, Remdesivir and Chloroquine killed COVID-19 viruses, that is, invitro – in the laboratory. But you cannot translate that to humans unless a clinical trial is done.
“I kept looking. About two weeks or so later in early March (this was at a time when COVID-19 was at its peak in China); there was a publication where 100 patients were treated with Chloroquine across ten hospitals in six cities, including Wuhan. It said that all of them recovered from the symptoms. They called it that time pneumonia symptoms.
“In the cells, in the lab, Remdesivir and Chloroquine killed COVID-19. At what stage would they be more effective? We didn’t know at that point. Now, we are realising that Chloroquine is effective at the early stage.”
Adeyeye also recalled how Sanjay Gupta, an American neurosurgeon, medical reporter, and writer, mentioned that Chloroquine can be used prophylactically.
She added;
“Remember, Remdesivir and Chloroquine work in the cells. Chloroquine was proven to work in 100 patients. We did not know at that time that the disease has about four phases – pre-exposure stage, early stage, mild stage, and the severe stage.
“Now we are talking of Remdesivir. We met with Gilead – the maker of Remdesivir about two months ago and they came. They said they have licensed their drug to five Indian companies and one Pakistani company. To treat an average patient will cost about $10 with Chloroquine and cost about $2,500 with Remdesivir.
“When we now got the profile of Remdesivir, what was recorded in literature and from the manufacturer was that Remdesivir doesn’t work at the early stage. It works at the late stage. But when viruses are in the tube in the laboratory, you won’t know which is late or which is early. Both killed them. We now understand that it is not only one drug that can be effective for COVID-19, but it depends on the stage and the phases of the disease.”
Rescuers in India pulled a four-year-old boy alive from the debris of a collapsed building almost a whole day after he was buried.
There were loud cheers on Tuesday, August 25, as the boy was pulled out hours after the five-storey apartment block collapsed, burying up to 70 people.
The accident occurred late on Monday, August 24, in the western town of Mahad, south of Mumbai.
It required three disaster-response teams and sniffer dogs to work through the night, combing tin sheets, twisted metal and broken bricks in search of survivors.
Video footage of the rescue effort showed onlookers applauding and cheering as the child was pulled from the wreckage and hauled onto a stretcher.
National Disaster Response Force spokesman Sachidanand Gawde told reporters emergency workers had so far retrieved the bodies of two victims in addition to the little boy who survived the collapse
Earlier, a local official told the Reuters news agency that rescue workers had pulled more than 60 people alive from the rubble.

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has been disqualified from contesting in the upcoming elections to be the next president of the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF).
Drogba alongside Paul Koffi Kouadio, Diabate and Yacine Idriss Diallo submitted their papers and CV to stand in the polls earlier this month but FIF’s Electoral Commission has ruled that the former Chelsea striker did not completely fulfil its list of eligibility criteria.
According to the Electoral commission, Drogba’s bid was rejected as two of the names he submitted as his sponsors were ruled not to have the necessary authority to be his sponsors.
Apart from that, Ivorian club African Sport officials and a body representing referees, AMAF-CI, support federation’s current 1st vice president Sory Diabate as their nominee, a vital endorsement that would have helped Drogba’s presidential ambitions.
FIF’s electoral commission also ruled that different officials from the same organization who signed Drogba’s electoral papers were not authorised to do so.
The commission also said that Drogba only had the backing of two top-flight Ivorian clubs and not the three that FIF statutes demand.
Paul Koffi Kouadio’s application was also rejected leaving Diabate and Yacine Idriss Diallo as the remaining candidates. The commission says Drogba and Kouadio have five days to appeal.
Drogba played more than 100 times for Ivory Coast. During his trophy packed club career, he played for Chelsea, French giants Marseille, Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua as well as Galatasaray in Turkey.
The University of Alabama has reported 531 Coronavirus cases on campus since starting classes on August 19.
The positive cases were reported on the university system’s COVID-19 dashboard, which reflects on-campus testing results and self-reported private lab results but does not include the entry testing conducted when school restarted, according to a local ABC affiliate.
The University of Alabama President Stuart Bell called the rise in COVID-19 “unacceptable” since the school has guidelines in place to avoid gatherings such as parties.

The unarmed black father who was shot multiple times by a white police officer in front of his children in Wisconsin, has been left paralyzed from the waist down after the shooting.
The shooting occurred at around 5pm on Sunday, August 23 in the city of Kenosha after Wisconsin cops were called to the scene due to a domestic dispute.
Jacob Blake, 29, was shot several times as he went to a car and opened the door while his partner and their three children were in the back seat of the vehicle screaming when police shot him. He was later airlifted to a Milwaukee hospital in serious condition.
The shooting sparked two nights of protests in the city, with buildings and cars set alight including a police officer being knocked out cold.
His father, Jacob Blake Snr has now told a US newspaper that his son is paralysed but doctors are unsure if his son’s paralysis is permanent.
He also said Jacob has “eight holes” in his body from the shooting, contradicting police report that he was shot seven times.
“What justified all those shots?” his father asked. “What justified doing that in front of my grandsons? What are we doing?”
His fiancée, Laquisha Booker, described how the children were screaming as their father was shot.
Speaking to a local NBC channel, she asked why the police would shoot someone “who’s not armed, not giving you no problems”.
“You shot him numerous times for no reason, it didn’t take all that,” she said. “[You] disregard that my kids was in the car at all – and you knew that they were in there because I kept screaming that before y’all made it to the other side of the driver’s side to get him in the car.
“I’ve been yelling that the whole time, let me get my kids. So that’s not important to y’all. What’s important is killing somebody.”
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

A Ugandan mum living in extreme poverty in Scotland has been found dead next to her malnourished baby in a Glasgow flat.
Mercy Baguma, a refugee from Uganda, was found dead by police on Saturday, August 22 after friends raised the alarm when she had not been seen or heard from since Tuesday, August 18.
According to GlasgowLive, the baby boy was rushed to the hospital for treatment but was released yesterday with the child’s father now caring for him in a different city.
The report said Mercy lost her job after her limited leave to remain in the UK had expired and was no longer allowed to work. She had to to rely on friends and charities to survive.
Speaking on the sad occurrence, Robina Qureshi, the Director of Positive Action in Housing said: “This is the third tragedy to affect the city’s refugee population in as many months.
“Mercy contacted our charity on August 11 and said she was not getting any financial support yet had made an application to MigrantHelp.
“Had she lived she would have been a high priority for a crisis payment from our Emergency Relief Fund like hundreds of others left functionally destitute by the asylum system.
“The question remains, why are mothers and babies being left to go hungry in this city, why is it being left to charities and volunteers to pick up the pieces?
“Does society have anything to say about that other than call them a drain on society?
“The fact is there is no safety net if you’re a refugee or migrant.
“You are left destitute and without resources. And you’re left silenced by far right rhetoric for being forced to ask for help.
“Would this mother be alive if she was not forced out of her job by this cruel system that stops you from working and paying your way because a piece of paper says your leave to remain has expired?
“I’m sure Mercy’s son will want to ask this and other questions once he is old enough.”

Zimbabwe’s most wanted armed robber, Musa Taj Abdul has been arrested after 20 years of terror.
The suspect has been on the run for over two decades and was arrested while in the company of six other accomplices in the border town of Beitbridge on Monday night.
Abdul who has been on the police wanted list since 1999, was linked to the robbery attack on December 2019 at Wessel Shop in Msasa, Harare, It was alleged that his gang disarmed a security guard and stole a special Amadeo Rossi revolver, $160 000 and an Isuzu KB240 single cab vehicle.
On February 5 this year, the gang went to Makoni Shopping Centre, Chitungwiza, armed with pistols, an AK47 rifle and robbed unsuspecting complainants of US$19 000, $30 000, cellphones and a Toyota Allion vehicle, which was later found abandoned in Glen View.
On February 26, the gang robbed another person in Harare of US$40 000, jewelry, several pairs of shoes, a laptop, cellphones, a star pistol, and a Hyundai vehicle. The gang proceeded to the victim’s workplace and robbed him of US$227 250 and R28 000 with only US$10 000 being recovered by the police.
Abdul is also known for evading police arrests and escaping shootouts which has led to the death of some of his gang members.

A mother and her son were allegedly caught having sex by the man’s wife and the couple could now face 20 years in jail for incest.
Tony L Lavoie, from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, was allegedly caught having sex with his mum Cheryl Lavoie, 64, in May earlier this year.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance and the responding officer was greeted by a cousin of the wife of Tony.
The cousin then told the officer Tony’s wife had called her about walking in on her husband having sex with his mother before calling 911, reports Sentinel & Enterprise.
The officer then reportedly spoke to the mum and son to acknowledge they had consensual sex relations.
It is alleged they both said it was the first time it had happened, reports add.
The police officer says Tony said: “I don’t know. It just happened.”
It is further alleged Tony told the officer he wanted treatment for this, the officer said.
After asking Cheryl the same question, she allegedly answered that they had gotten closer in the last few months and it happened after they began kissing.
After talking to everyone involved, the officer decided there was enough evidence to charge the mother and son with incest.
They were given a summons to appear in court on August 20 with a felony.
They were read the charges in court and ordered to stay away from each other.
They both pleaded not guilty, court records show.
They will return on October 27 for a pre-trial hearing.
According to the state’s general statutes, someone convicted of incest can face up to 20 years behind bars.

The court heard today how Maguire told Greek police ‘don’t you know who I am? I’m the captain of Man Utd’, before attempting to bribe officers after his bar brawl in Mykonos last week.
The 27-year-old flew back to the UK on Sunday ahead of his trial and was represented in court by his lawyers with his father Alan in attendance.
The lawyers claimed in court that the footballer’s sister Daisy was injected with a date rape drug by two Albanian men outside the bar the defendants were at.
Daisy collapsed, triggering a brawl, and police rushed to the scene, with the Albanians fleeing, the court was told.
The court heard that Maguire and his group asked to be taken to hospital after the brawl, but were stopped by undercover police.
After more violent clashes, the three accused were driven to a police station, where officers kicked Maguire on the leg and told him: ‘Your career is over’.
However, officer Mickolos Kolios claimed while giving evidence that Maguire began pushing officers and getting verbally abusive.
He claimed the footballer and his brother Joe tried to bribe officers, with Harry saying: ‘Do you know who I am? I am the captain of Manchester United. I am very rich. I can give you money. I can pay you, please let us go.’
The court also heard that Maguire said ‘f*** the police both inside and outside the station.
Maguire’s friend Ashden Morley told the court that the Manchester United captain feared that he was being kidnapped or robbed when they were stopped by undercover police officers.
Mr. Morley, a childhood friend of Harry and Joe, said that the incident with the police started as the group returned to their minibus following a night out.
He said that Harry’s sister Daisy had been approached by ‘two Albanian looking men’ as some of the group went to buy burgers and kebabs at around midnight.
He added: ‘Daisy was sat down about three metres away from us. She was approached by two Albanian looking gentlemen who asked her where she was from and she replied ‘Sheffield.’
‘They continued to stick around Daisy. Fern (Harry’s fiancé) then noticed that her eyes were rolling into the back of her head. So, she rushed across to Daisy. She then began fitting.
‘All the girls started screaming, other people were coming down and there was a real commotion.’
When asked by the Greek public prosecutor how Mr Morley knew the men were Albanian, he replied: ‘Because they looked it and had an Albanian nature.’
The court heard that Maguire and his friends rushed off in a minibus to take her to hospital. It was then they realised they were being followed by two cars behind them before the vehicle pulled up in a courtyard.
It was heard that the group of men in these cars were undercover police officers.
Mr. Morley added: ‘The van we were in stopped and the door was pulled open by a man. We thought we were either being robbed or kidnapped. Everybody was very scared.’
He revealed that Harry and his friend Chris managed to flee the van.
Mr. Morely added: ‘Harry later told me that he was trying to ring his agent to tell him that he needed help.
‘I looked out of the van and saw Harry and Chris kneeling on the ground with their hands up in the air and they were being kicked and stamped on.
‘We were all in the mini-bus with the doors open, all the girls were in hysterics, crying their eyes out.’
Maguire has confirmed he would be appealing his conviction after branding himself and his family “the victims in a statement.
He said: “Following the hearing, I have instructed my legal team with immediate effect to inform the courts we will be appealing.
“I remain strong + confident regarding our innocence in this matter – if anything myself, family + friends are the victims.” #MUFC”.

Sweden‘s Public Health Agency on Tuesday August 25, announced that it has uncovered 3,700 false Coronavirus positive results linked to a faulty test kit.
The PCR kits linked to the error which was discovered by two laboratories during routine quality controls, were made in China by the company BGI Genomics and had been distributed worldwide.
According to the agency, the kits were used by people conducting at-home tests between the period of March and August. The development will lead to an adjustment of Sweden’s official number of Coronavirus cases.
The agency said in its statement;
‘People who had mild symptoms or who didn’t feel any symptoms at the time of the test received false positive results.
‘The faulty test kit has been reported to the Swedish Medical Products Agency. It has been exported by China to many other countries. We have also informed relevant authorities in Europe and the WHO’.4
Sweden on Tuesday August 25, said it had 86,891 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and has also recorded 5,814 deaths.
AFP reported that Lockdown-free Sweden last week recorded its highest death toll in a six-month period for 150 years – with 4,500 of its 51,405 fatalities being Covid-19 related. It’s the highest tally from January to the end of June since 1869 when 55,431 people died, largely because of a famine. The population of Sweden then was just 4.1million, compared to 10.3million today.
