Austrian authorities have suspended inoculations with a batch of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine as a precaution while they investigate the death of one person after and the illness of another after the shots.
“The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) has received two reports in a temporal connection with a vaccination from the same batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the district clinic of Zwettl” in Lower Austria province, the health agency said in a statement.
One 49-year-old woman died as a result of severe coagulation disorders, while a 35-year-old woman developed a pulmonary embolism and is recovering, it said. A pulmonary embolism is an acute lung disease caused by a dislodged blood clot.
The health agency added that there is “no evidence of a casual relationship with the vaccination” but the remaining stocks of the affected vaccine batch are no longer being used as a “precautionary measure”.
An AstraZeneca spokesman said: “There have been no confirmed serious adverse events associated with the vaccine,” adding that all batches are subject to strict and rigorous quality controls.
Trials and real-world experience so far suggest the vaccine is safe and effective and it had been approved for use in well over 50 countries, he said.
AstraZeneca also said it was in contact with Austrian authorities and would fully support the investigation.
French billionaire politician, Olivier Dassault has died in a helicopter crash in north-western France.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening, March 8, in Normandy where he has a holiday home.
The 69-year-old, who was the eldest son of the late French billionaire Serge Dassault, was returning to Paris following a weekend in the English Channel resort of Deauville when his AS350 Squirrel crashed.
The father-of-three, who was heir to the Dassault Aviation fortune, died alongside the helicopter’s pilot.
‘They had just taken off, when the helicopter got into difficulty and came down on private land,’ said an investigating source.
France’s Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis of Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) immediately sent five investigators to the scene to carry out an enquiry.
Local prosecutors and judicial police have launched an enquiry into the tragedy.
French President Emmanuel Macron took to Twitter to pay tribute to a man who ‘never ceased to serve our country’ and ‘value its assets’.
In a tweet, President Macron said: ‘Olivier Dassault loved France. Captain of industry, deputy, local elected official, reserve commander in the air force: during his life, he never ceased to serve our country, to value its assets.
‘His sudden death is a great loss. Thoughts on his family and loved ones.’
At the time of his death, Mr. Dassault’s fortune was thought to exceed the equivalent of €6billion, according to sources in the financial world in Paris.
Mr. Dassault had been an MP for the conservative Republicans party since 2002 and was the 361st richest person in the world alongside his two brothers and sister.
He and his three other siblings later inherited Dassault Aviation, which was founded by Mr Dassault’s grandfather Marcel in 1929.
South African social media influencer, Sarah Langa, has revealed that she made her first million cash by getting a divorce from her ex-husband, Jehan Mackay.
Mackay and Sarah got married in 2017. After two years and ten months of marriage, Mackay filed for divorce in September 2019. He reportedly became irritated with Langa’s obsession with social media which she used to build her career before meeting him. Recently their divorce was finalized.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed during their two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey that they got married privately three days before their royal wedding.

A suspected notorious drug trafficker, Hassan Bishi Taiwo, has been arrested by operatives of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport MMIA command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, for being in possession of three parcels of cocaine concealed in a false bottom created in his suitcase.
Hassan was intercepted at the E-Arrival Hall of the MMIA upon his arrival onboard an Ethiopian airline flight at about 1.30pm on Friday, March 5.
According to the Commander, MMIA command of the agency, Ahmadu Garba, the suspect has been plying his illicit trade through some Middle East countries.
Fugitive Malawian Prophet, Shepherd Bushiri has opened up on why he left South Africa where he faces money laundering, fraud and corruption charges.
Recall that his escape nearly caused a diplomatic row between Malawi and South Africa as many media houses reported that he was smuggled using President Lazarus Chakwera’s presidential jet.
Bushiri’s escape was discovered just a few hours before Chakwera’s departure for Malawi during his trip to South Africa. This led to him being detained for several hours before being cleared to take off by South African intelligence officials.
However when interviewed on a local TV station, Bushiri feigned ignorance on how he fled from the country where he is facing criminal charges.
He said;
“To this day, I don’t know how I left South Africa. There was fire and I had to leave but I do not know how I left. It was only God who rescues from danger His people in His own ways.”

On Sunday night, March 7, Bruno Fernandes and a man of the match performance from Luke Shaw was enough to see off premier league table leaders Manchester City .
United claimed a famous and surprising win and continued their run away from home to an impressive 22 league games unbeaten. More importantly they returned to second in the table, bolstering their hopes of claiming Champions League qualification and also set a standard they have to maintain if they are going to challenge next season.
United may not be closing the gap on City just yet – even if it is now down to 11 points – but taking four points this season from the leading team should be some encouragement with several outstanding performances led by Anthony Martial, and Luke Shaw who scored their second goal in front of England manager Gareth Southgate.
Few minutes into the game, Gabriel Jesus bundled Martial in the area and the referee couldn’t avoid giving out a penalty.
Fernandes who has been criticized lately for not playing well against the big six club’s, drove the ball to Ederson’s right.
The goalkeeper got a hand to it but could not keep it out and Fernandes had his second goal of the season – and his second penalty – in ‘Big Six’ encounters.

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has revealed that Nigerian banks lost over N5 billion to fraudsters within a nine-month period in 2020.
Speaking on Monday, March 8, at a programme with the theme “Effective investigation and prosecution of banking malpractices that led to the failure of banks in Nigeria” NDIC’s Executive Director, Corporate Services, Mrs Omotola Abiola-Edewor, revealed the staggering figure of bank losses to fraud.
Mrs Abiola-Edewor, who was represented at the occasion by Joshua James Etopidiok, revealed the figures in a report recently published by the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS).
The NIBSS report disclosed that between January and September 2020, banks in Nigeria lost over N5 billion to fraudsters.
“In 2019, a total of 52,754 fraud cases were reported against 37,817 in 2018 and 26,182 in 2017.” Edewor said.
“The amount involved in the fraud cases stood at N204.65 billion, in 2019, compared to N38.93 billion in 2018 and N12.01 billion in 2017”
“The total actual loss declined from N15.15 billion in 2018 to N5.46 billion in 2019. While 5 billion was lost in 2020”
She revealed that the fraud could be attributed to the increase in the sophistication hacking, cybercrime as well as an increase in Information Technology related products and usage, fraudulent withdrawals and unauthorised credit.
‘The channels and instruments through which the reported frauds and forgeries were perpetrated indicated that ATM/Card-related fraud had the highest frequency, accounting for 49.78 per cent of fraud cases followed by web-based internet banking frauds with 21.02 per cent, however, the value of losses was higher in web-based internet banking frauds against ATM card-related fraud,’ she said.
MacKenzie Scott, the world’s 22nd richest person and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has found love again.
The 50-year-old, who is worth an estimated $53 billion, divorced the Amazon founder back in 2019 after 25 years of marriage.
She has now married Dan Jewett, a science teacher at the private Seattle Lakeside School where her children she shares with Bezos attend.
The private school where Jewett teaches and his wife’s children attend is for grades five to 12 and costs $38,000 per year.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife, Asma al-Assad, have tested positive for COVID-19 and are suffering from mild symptoms, the government announced on Monday, March 8.
A brief statement from the Syrian presidency said Assad and his wife, Asma al-Assad, took PCR tests after developing mild symptoms consistent with COVID-19. The test result was positive.
Both Assad and his wife are in a good condition and will be working from home during the next two to three weeks, the presidency said. It urged all Syrians to follow prevention measures against the coronavirus.
“President al-Assad and Ms. Asma salute the medical staff working on the front lines to confront the virus and mitigate its effects for all those affected,” the statement said.

Legendary football manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he had an 80 percent chance of dying following a brain haemorrhage in May 2018.
The former manager of Manchester United, 79, admitted in his upcoming documentary Never Give In, that he had a 20 percent chance of survival following a brain haemorrhage.
He revealed he just slumped and couldn’t speak and was worried if he will be able to remember the past or ever speak again.
The documentary, which premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival on Saturday, March 6, and will be able to be seen in cinemas from May 27 and Amazon Prime May 28, was directed by Sir Alex’s son Jason, 51.
Speaking alongside his son during a virtual Q&A after the premiere, Sir Alex said the recovery from the operation was terrifying.
“I lost my voice, just could not get a word out, and that was terrifying – absolutely terrifying,” he said.
“And everything was going through my mind: is my memory going to come back? Am I ever going to speak again?”
He said: “I remember falling and so after that I don’t remember a thing.
“It was sudden. It stopped. It just stopped. It was no man’s land.”
His doctor added: “So I remember estimating his mortality – at that point in time it was 80 per cent. It was an 80 per cent chance he would not survive.”

Israel Adesanya has suffered his first career loss after he was defeated by Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 in Las Vegas on Saturday night, March 6.
The New Zealand-Nigerian middleweight champion was bidding to become the fifth fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously after a 20 – 0 record.
In the fight, Adesanya showed a clear speed advantage against Jan Blachowicz. But Polish light-heavyweight took control during the final two rounds and defended his title via unanimous decision to claim victory. All three officials awarded the bout his way, 49-46, 49-45, and 49-45.

Nigeria national team coach, Gernot Rohr has reacted after a top Neursurgeon warned against rushing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen back to the field after he sustained brain trauma following a collision with another player in a league game last month.
The Italian neurosurgeon, Alfredo Bucciero who treated Victor Osimhen said he won’t give Osimhen the all-clear unless he is absolutely sure there are no lasting effects from being knocked unconscious after falling awkwardly and hitting his head on the ground, leaving him with head trauma and no memory of the accident.
“He returned to training, but before we send him back out onto the pitch to play, we need to make absolutely sure he is in perfect condition.” The doctor told Radio Marte.
“There will be another MRI scan and then we’ll make a decision, of course in conjunction with the Napoli medical staff.
“The issue now is about prevention, because he doesn’t need any treatment at this stage. We just need to monitor the bioelectrical activity, which can be knocked out of sync following a head trauma.
“We just want absolute certainty that Osimhen is fine before we let him resume playing.”
The 22-year-old striker who joined for a club-record fee of €80 million has struggled to play regularly, owing to injury, suspension and coronavirus-related problems.
He has not featured for Gennaro Gattuso’s men since February 21 and Rohr says Napoli the striker has been unlucky and everyone will soon feel his absence.
“Victor Osimhen’s season has so far been unlucky, between injuries and Covid. Already in October, he could not play with our national team two games, in Austria, because he was in quarantine after some of his teammates at Napoli had contracted Covid,” Rohr told Kiss Kiss Napoli.

Riko walked down the aisle to her favorite song Winter Song by Kiroro before they exchanged traditional Catholic and Shinto vows with poetry from Walt Whitman and Haiku ‘sprinkled in’, a rep for Cage told DailyMail.com.
Cage, whose fourth marriage to Erika Koike ended after just four days back in 2019, confirmed the wedding on Friday March 5, and said the couple were enjoying newly-wedded bliss.
‘It’s true, and we are very happy,’ he told DailyMail.com in a statement.

A state of Nevada marriage certificate shows Riko has taken Cage’s name and is now known as Riko Cage. She is 30 years younger than Cage and four years younger than his first son Weston Cage.
Official documents show that Cage and Riko applied for their wedding license on January 10 – the day of Riko’s 26th birthday.

A teacher will be caned three times and jailed for 18 months after he admitted to molesting a three-year-old girl at a learning centre in Singapore.
The teacher, a British man known as Richard Christopher Monks, 29, was sentenced on Thursday, March 4 after he pleaded guilty to the charge of “outrage of modesty” in February.
He initially denied the allegations, despite the abuse being captured on CCTV.
He was seen on security camera footage lifting up the dress of the little girl and molesting her with his left hand for 15 minutes.
The clip, recorded on October 20, 2018, shows the disgraced pedophile use his right hand to point a camera up her skirt.
Monks, who was 27 at the time, reportedly filmed the abuse on his phone in the presence of six other children, aged between four and five.
His victim was the youngest child in the class and was aged three years and 11 months, according to local media.
According to the Straits Times reports, The court was shown footage of Monks on the day of the incident at around 5:20pm, as he rearranged chairs in the classroom to watch a video with his students.
Knowing that a security camera was installed in one corner of the room, he strategically positioned himself behind the children to avoid the abuse being recorded on CCTV.
The other children’s upper bodies blocked the view of the camera as he approached the victim from behind.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Hsiao Tien said: “The victim was uncomfortable with the accused’s touch, and expressed her discomfort by fidgeting and turning back to look at him several times during the said duration.
The prosecutor say that the victim now fears falling asleep alone and uncontrollably wets the bed after the traumatic abuse she suffered in the presence of her classmates
The victim’s parents only became aware of the abuse a week later when she was unwilling to attend the class before she complained “teacher Richard” had “touched her”.
When her mother asked where he had touched her, the terrified child pointed to her bottom. A police report was filed by her mother on the same day.
Monks was arrested on November 1, 2018, after returning from a visit to Thailand and he originally denied the girl’s claims to police.
His lawyer claimed Monks committed the disgusting crime due to “a momentary lapse of judgment owing to work-related stress and anxiety”.
His legal team say Monks told his supervisor before the incident that he had trouble sleeping, and was prescribed medication for anxiety and insomnia on December 20, 2018 after seeing a doctor.
They also said the teacher had apologised to the victim and her family.
Under Singapore law, offenders can be fined, caned, or jailed for up to five years if found guilty of molesting a child aged below 14 years.
He has now been given a punishment of 18 months jail time and three strokes of cane.
YouTube’s chief executive officer has announced that the video sharing/streaming platform may lift Donald Trump’s suspension, if the threat of “real-world violence” decreases.
CEO Susan Wojcicki said the social media company will look at government warnings and watch out for violent rhetoric to determine when it’s safe to lift the suspension.
Recall YouTube alongside Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter suspended the former US president following the Capitol Hill riot carried out by Trump supporters on 6 January that left five dead.
YouTube said he had violated their incitement of violence policy and had to suspend him.
“It’s pretty clear that right now where we stand, that there still is that elevated risk of violence,” the YouTube chief said during an interview with the Atlantic Council.
Ms Wojcicki clarified that the Trump’s conduct had not led to a full ban on the platform.
Youtube operates under a three strike system and an account must receive all three strikes within 90 days to be permanently removed.
The company said Trump’s suspension in January was his first strike.
Rudy Giuliani, the former personal attorney to Mr Tump, received his second strike earlier this week for claiming the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
Typically, a first strike results in a seven day suspension of an account, but Mr Trump’s has been prolonged due to a continued risk of violence.
Trump has been pretty quiet since leaving office mainly due to his social media absence.
During the trial, Amersham Law Courts heard the 35-year-old married mom had told the boy she would “bring him down with her” if the relationship was discovered.
While she was working as a school cover supervisor, she had sent topless pictures of herself to the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, as well as a “live video” of her masturbating.
On Friday, March 5, Barber, of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, appeared at Aylesbury Crown Court to be sentenced.
Prosecutor David Povall summarised a statement from the victim, who said he faced stress and anxiety as a result of the incidents and going through two trials.
He continued: “He was at school and it was through his presence at school that he came into contact with this defendant, who was working there in a position of trust.
“He feels that his GCSE results were not as good as they should have been, in part as a result of the impact of these incidents on him.
“As a result of his poorer-than-expected GCSE results he had to leave the good school he was attending and go to a sixth-form college where none of his friends were.
“In summary, he says that the defendant … who was supposed to help students make the right decisions instead helped him to make all the wrong decisions.”
Recorder Bal Dhaliwal handed Barber a sentence of six years and two months for the charge of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
She described how Barber added herself to the victim’s Snapchat account in September 2018, exchanging messages with the boy which became sexual within a week.
She said: “You also sent images, including a topless image of yourself, and a live video in which you were masturbating. All of these acts are tantamount to you grooming him and pulling him in, and with significant planning on your part.
During one incident, the court heard Barber asked the boy to meet her, going to a private field and having sex with him.
The judge continued: “There is no doubt in my mind that you acted in gross breach of trust. You took advantage of a child in your care and groomed him for your own sexual gratification.”
Barber later told the boy to delete all messages and block her on Snapchat to stop evidence being found.
“You remained determined to silence him in whatever way you could,” Judge Dhaliwal said.
Barber later told the teenager that she was pregnant and was unsure whether the baby was his or her husband’s. “This was yet another attempt by you to manipulate and control him,” the judge continued.
“You already had authority over him by the nature of your position, and to use threats to bring him down so he would comply with your demands to remain quiet, which is what I find that you did, is in my view beyond despicable.”
Barber was also handed a 16-month prison sentence for causing a child under 16 to watch sexual activity by a person in breach of trust and a further 10-month sentence for sexual communication, both to be served concurrently with her main sentence.
She will be required to notify police of her personal details and address for the rest of her life, as well as being barred from working with children and vulnerable adults, and being subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.

A fisherman on Friday morning, March 5, caught a giant swordfish at Oyorokotor fishing settlement in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Swordfish also known as broadbills in some countries, are large, highly migratory, predatory fish characterized by a long, flat, pointed bill. They are elongated, round-bodied, and lose all teeth and scales by adulthood.

Wisdom the albatross, the world’s oldest known wild bird, has birthed a chick at the age of 70, the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has announced.
According to the USFWS, the Laysan albatross hatched the chick on 1 February in a wildlife refuge in the North Pacific Ocean.
Laysan albatrosses usually only live for 12-40 years. But Wisdom was first identified by researchers in 1956.
Although Wisdom hatched her chick in February, the birth – which took place in the Midway Atoll national wildlife refuge, in a US minor outlying island in the North Pacific – has only been reported this week.
“Wisdom laid her egg sometime during the last few days of November,” the USFWS wrote in its statement announcing the new arrival.
“Soon after, Wisdom returned to sea to forage and her mate Akeakamai took over incubation duties. Albatross parents share incubation duties and once the chick hatches, share feeding duties.”
The father of the chick is Wisdom’s partner, Akeakamai, who she has been with since 2012, US wildlife officials said.
Albatrosses usually mate for life, but it wildlife officials believe Wisdom had other partners in the past that are now dead.
The USFWS believes she has had at least 30 to 36 chicks in her lifetime which is remarkable because Albatrosses only hatch one egg every few years.
An Indian woman who was attacked with acid when she rejected a marriage proposal at 15, has tied the knot with a man she met in the hospital while recovering.
Pramodini Roul, 28, found love 13 years later and married Saroj Sahoo, 29, on March 1 in her hometown Jagatsinhpur, Odisha, with more than 1000 guests, including other acid attack survivors in attendance.
Saroj’s friend was a nurse and would regularly visit the hospital where Pramodini was being treated. The pair later got close and fell in love following their first meeting in 2018.
After the acid attack, Pramodini was left with burns on her face and only 20 percent of her eyesight. She was also left bald by the attack and had to undergo five reconstructive surgeries including one to correct vision in her left eye, she met the love of her life in hospital.
Pramodini, who wore a wig on her wedding day, said: ‘I feel so blessed to be married to Saroj, it’s an amazing feeling.
‘We had so many guests at our wedding to celebrate our special day with us.’
The couple were engaged in 2018 and had plans to marry in April 2020 but the pandemic outbreak last year delayed their plans.
Pramodini said: ‘After visiting the hospital on and off during my recovery in 2018 we fell in love and he gave up his job to help care for me.
‘A lot of people were surprised that he would want to marry me but we fell in love and our families did come around to the idea.’
Pramodini added: ‘After meeting in hospital we lived together in New Delhi at first before contemplating on getting married in two years.
‘The first time I’d seen Saroj was this September when I had undergone the first surgery in left eye but I had fallen for his charms.
‘He loves me like the way I am. He always encourages me to live life happily.’
The two now work for rehabilitation of acid attack survivors in Odisha through Chaanv Foundation, an NGO that works for acid attack survivors in the country.

A man was attacked and his face was ripped off by seven Pitbulls while he was on his morning walk.
Aglacir de Macedo Pereira, 46, was ambushed by the dogs in Lageado Feio, a rural area of southern Brazil on February 2.
He was enjoying his morning walk he takes regularly when the savage dogs escaped from a farm underneath a gate.
Brave passersby rescued him from the gruesome attack and called an ambulance.
Pereira was rushed to Santa Cruz Hospital in central Pinhao,.
The Pitbulls had bitten off all of the skin on his face and left his skull completely exposed.
After arriving at the hospital he tragically died due to his injuries.
Pereira’s distraught aunt told local media, “He was like a son. I raised him since he was two years old.”
His family have accused the dogs’ owner of failing to keep the animals penned up properly.
“We ask people who have these animals to take care. We do not want other people to go through a situation as sad as the one we are going through,” Pereira’s aunt continued.
The owner of the dogs has not yet been identified.
Police are investigating the attack and may press charges against the owner.
Highly-rated English-German young winger, Jamal Musiala has signed a new bumper contract with Bayern Munich, his first professional deal with the club, a week after turning 18.

Meghan Markle’s Suits co-star, Patrick J. Adams has slammed the royal family and the British media for tormenting the Duchess of Sussex.
In a series of tweets, Patrick J. Adams, who starred alongside Markle for several seasons on the legal drama Suits, defended the former actress from the new bullying allegations that have emerged against her from Buckingham Palace.
He sang Meghan’s praise then called the royal family “archaic and toxic.”
He also questioned the timing of the bullying claims made against Meghan by the Palace.
Buckingham Palace said Wednesday, March 3, that it would investigate allegations that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, bullied several staff members after a British media report cited unnamed royal aides saying a complaint had been made against her in 2018.
Most people have accused the royal family of bringing this up to undermine Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey and make her seem like the bad person.

Former Group Managing Director, Diamond Bank Plc and two-time governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has opined that handing the Igbo Nigeria’s presidency would not solve the problem of Nigeria, as some fundamental structural problems must be handled for an egalitarian society to be institutionalised.
The renowned economist also stated that insecurity would continue in the country until poverty among the citizens is addressed.
Speaking to Sunnewsonline, he said: “A situation where close to 90 million people, representing 43 per cent of our population, live below the poverty line of less than 1.90 dollar per day, makes the country a veritable candidate for insecurity of the highest order.”
“If you have followed my politics, you would realise that I do not believe in primordial sentiments. I believe that tribe and religion are basically smokescreens used by politicians to drive personal interests.”

As if the problems facing New York Governor Andrew Cuomo have no plans of going away, a new bombshell report has come out alleging that top advisers to Cuomo influenced state health officials to remove data from a public report that showed coronavirus-related nursing-home deaths in the state had exceeded numbers previously acknowledged by the administration.
The July 2020 report have just been disclosed by The Wall Street Journal and alleges that the final report focused only on nursing-home residents who died inside those facilities and did not include nursing-home residents who were transferred to hospitals after becoming sick.
That means the state’s reported tally of 6,432 nursing-home resident deaths was significantly lower than the actual nursing-home death toll, sources with knowledge of the state report’s preparation told the Wall Street Journal.
State officials now place the nursing-home and long-term-care facility death toll in New York at more than 15,000 residents, the Journal reported.
The number represents deaths since March 2020 of residents confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus or presumed to have contracted it, the report said.
Cuomo, who is also battling allegations of sexual assault and harrasment from several women, has defended his administration’s actions regarding the nursing-home deaths, saying state officials had followed federal guidance and worked to manage hospital capacity as the virus spread.
The July report was produced after state lawmakers and families of people who died in nursing homes raised questions about a March 25, 2020, directive from the state Health Department about the policies regarding nursing-home patients and covid-19.
On Feb. 10, 2021 Cuomo’s aide Melissa DeRosa told state lawmakers that state officials delayed releasing nursing-home data last year, fearing at the time it might spark a federal investigation from the Trump administration.
It should be noted that the Trump Administration’s Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division started seeking data from New York and other states last August.
After the Journal’s story appeared Thursday night, members of the Cuomo administration issued statements in defense of the administration’s actions.
Beth Garvey, a special counsel and senior adviser to Cuomo, claimed that “out-of-facility data” – meaning the deaths in hospitals – was omitted from the July report after the state Department of Health “could not confirm it had been adequately verified.”
“This did not change the conclusion of the report, which was and is that the March 25 order was ‘not a driver of nursing home infections or fatalities.’”
She added: “COVID Task Force officials did not request that the report conclude the March 25 order played no role; in fact Task Force Members, knowing the report needed to withstand rigorous public scrutiny were very cautious to not overstate the statistical analysis presented in the report. Overall, ensuring public confidence in the conclusion was the ultimate goal of DOH and the COVID Task Force in issuing the report.”
Gary Holmes, a spokesman for the New York Department of Health, issued the following statement, referring to the state’s July report and to Howard Zucker, the state’s health commisssioner:
“This report, which establishes that the March 25 advisory was not a driver of nursing home deaths, was a collaborative process between DOH and the COVID task force. The report’s purpose was to ensure the public had a clear non-political evaluation for how COVID entered nursing homes at the height of the pandemic. All data sets reviewed came to a common conclusion – that spread from staff was likely the primary driver that introduced COVID into these nursing homes. While early versions of the report included out of facility deaths, the COVID task force was not satisfied that the data had been verified against hospital data and so the final report used only data for in facility deaths, which was disclosed in the report. While the out of facility deaths were held aside for verification, the conclusions were supported by both data sets. DOH was comfortable with the final report and believes fully in its conclusion that the primary driver that introduced COVID into the nursing homes was spread brought in by staff. Even Bill Hammond of the conservative think tank Empire Center found that the March 25 advisory was not a primary driver of COVID in nursing homes. The decision was made to initially release the report without the out of facility data and to later update the report to include the out of facility deaths. This was done in February and as Dr. Zucker had testified to the legislature, the conclusions remained the same as in July.”

An overworked medical doctor, who has reportedly not been paid for 3 months, collapsed after a 72 hour shift.
Dr Okorie Ifeanyi Venatus is an intern doctor in Univeristy of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, Rivers State. He and other intern doctors have not been paid since Dec 2020, a medical doctor on Twitter claimed.
Despite not being paid, Dr Okorie has been working as the only House Officer in the unit.
On the fateful day, after working for 3 days stretch, he reportedly collapsed with his forehead to the ground.
He was admitted to the hospital where treatment commenced immediately.
The Twitter doctor who shared the news called out the government for its treatment of House Officers. Her also called out the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, for not fighting for the rights of doctors.

A teenager had no idea she was pregnant at 17 until she gave birth to a surprise baby.
Siobhan Buchanan, of Perth, Scotland, still fit into her size 6 clothing when she was pregnant. She had no bump and continued to bleed monthly.
As a result, she had no reason to suspect she might be pregnant as she was having safe sex with then boyfriend Kieran Millar.
Now 19, Siobhan is telling her story.
She recalled: “Mum kept saying my face was swollen and fat. As I’d also broken out in pimples, which wasn’t like me, she became convinced I was pregnant.
“I laughed and told her not to be ridiculous.

“Kieran and I used condoms and were extremely careful. Plus, my periods were regular so it was impossible.”
The mum, then 17, was convinced to take pregnancy tests by her mum Yvonne Buchanan, 31.
She said: “Mum was shocked and kept saying I looked like I had glowing pregnancy skin. I told her to drop it.
“Soon after, I started to crave bagels and Irn-Bru. I looked at my stomach and it was completely flat. I knew I wasn’t pregnant.
“Mum was still adamant and she bought me two different brands of pregnancy tests again.
“To keep her quiet, I took them and again, they were negative.”
Siobhan first signs of pregnancy didn’t come until months later.
She said: “Out of nowhere, I had a horrible pain in my back. I thought it was my uncomfortable chair.
“Later that night, at home, I kept complaining to my parents that my back was killing.
“Mum gave me some ibuprofen. Dad thought I might be constipated.
“I decided to just get an early night and sleep it off.”
Siobhan’s back pain worsened and she was rushed to hospital when her waters broke.
She said: “I dragged myself to the toilet and as I sat down, I felt a gush of water between my legs.
“I was so confused. Mum and Dad were out so I called them.
“I told them something was wrong and that I needed to go to the hospital.”
The teenager was told she was having a baby – and she gave birth to little Oscar, now 23 months old, a matter of minutes later.
She recalled: “To my shock, they took me to a maternity ward and did an ultrasound.
“Suddenly, I heard the thumping sound of a heartbeat. I looked at the screen and there was a baby.
“I was in labour. Before I could react, I felt burning between my legs and the nurses told me I was crowning.”
Baby Oscar was successfully delivered and weighed in at 5lb 5oz.
Despite the surprise pregnancy, he was given a clean bill of health.
The mum said: “The doctor explained that he’d been lying back to back, which is why I didn’t have a bump.
“For months, I’d mistaken spotting for light periods…
“I’d been using condoms with my boyfriend, had a flat stomach and had periods every month.
“I couldn’t believe I’d carried a baby for nine months without knowing.
“Thankfully, he was a healthy little boy.”
She added: “As Mum quickly called Dad to tell him the news, I messaged Kieran.
“I said I’d had a baby and he was a dad. He thought I was joking but then it finally sunk in. He was gobsmacked.
“Sadly he was stuck at work, so he couldn’t come straight away.
“After five days, I took Oscar home and Kieran finally met him.
“After that, both our families rallied around us and got supplies.
“Kieran really got into being a dad but in time, we eventually broke up. He’s still an amazing father.”
Five persons have been paraded by the Nigeria Police Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos Command, for issuing fake COVID-19 certificate.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Achibong Idonrenyin, Moses Samuel, Popoola Adewala, Wale Aderele and Abdulmalik Ibrahim, and it was also learnt that two others identified as Shehu Imam and Adeola Dalington who work with Sky Blue Services limited, a cleaning service at the airport are at large.
Mr. Bature Umar, the Commissioner, Airport Command told newsmen that the incident occurred on February 19, 2021 at the airport where a British Airways passenger, Michael Osagbogun was defrauded N50,000 for fake COVID-19 test.
The suspects had approached Osagbogun promising to produce a Covid-19 test positive certificate for him. Two of the suspects, Popoola Adewale and Adeola Dalington, who knew the airport environment well due to the nature of their jobs at the airport, allegedly took the victim to one of the toilet facilities at the airport where N50,000 was obtained from him under the pretext of producing a valid Covid-19 negative certificate for the victim.
Osagbogun was reportedly taken to DAT Cybercafe at No. 4, Oriyomi Street, Ikeja where a fake Covid-19 negative certificate was eventually procured for him. He was stopped from flying to London, United Kingdom after it was discovered that he has a fake COVID-19 certificate.
The alarm he raised led to the arrest of four suspects and a guarantor to one of the two suspects at large.
Though the suspects claimed it was their first time of engaging in the criminal activity, Umar said investigation revealed the suspects had been in the crime for several months. The suspects would be paraded in the court of competent jurisdiction on Friday March 5.
A wicked father decapitated his 17-year-old daughter and carried her head through the streets because he reportedly did not approve of her boyfriend.
Residents in the Indian village of Pandetara, Uttar Pradesh spotted Sarvesh Kumar walking with the head on Wednesday, March 3.
He was reportedly on his way to a police station after cutting off his daughter’s head as part of an honour killing.
Mr. Kumar admitted to beheading his daughter with a sharp object as he was unhappy with the relationship she was in, NDTV reports.
‘I did it. There was no one else. I closed the latch and did it. The body is in the room’, he said.
He also claimed that he would have killed her lover too if he was able to find him.
Kumar was arrested by police and taken into custody. His wife was also arrested for her alleged involvement in the crime.
Police found the body of his daughter at the family home and have sent it for a post-mortem examination.
An officer was suspended after he was pictured carrying the head ‘inappropriately’, according to local media reports.

Governors of the 36 states in the country are expected to publicly take the Coronavirus vaccine on March 10.
The agreement was reached at an emergency meeting which was attended by Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF); Osagie Ehanire, health minister; and Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and convened to discuss the distribution of the vaccine.
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi conveyed the decision in a statement released on Thursday March 4.
Fayemi who gave an assurance of the vaccine being safe, urged Nigerians to register on the National Primary Health Care Development Agency website – nphcsaict.com.ng/publicreg for the vaccine.
It is also expected that frontline workers will receive their vaccination alongside the president and vice-president on Saturday March 6.

The 32-year-old singer and the charity CEO, 46, are now “officially divorced” according to US Weekly who have reported that a judge signed off the settlement on Thursday, March 4.
It was reported that mediators were forced to split the £140 million fortune that the couple had amassed.
The publication claims that Adele and Simon submitted a “judgement package” in February which stated that they “opted to determine rights to community property and debts through mediation”.
While Adele and Simon are said to have “represented themselves” in the case, the singer reportedly sought professional help to manage the terms of their divorce.
The Sun reported that while the split was thought to be amicable, mediators were used to agree certain parts of the divorce settlement.
The couple had a £34.7 million property portfolio among their £140 million fortune, which had been mostly made on the back of Adele’s hugely successful career, and the carving up of their assets and money needed careful management.
They had already agreed to have joint custody of their eight-year-old son Angelo.
A source told the publication: “They made it very clear they didn’t want to set lawyers on each other but the process hasn’t been exactly straightforward all the same.

The Lagos Police Command has arrested socialite, Mike Eze, popularly known as Pretty Mike over the alleged breaching of COVID19 protocols by Cubana Nightclub.
The Nation reports that Eze is alleged to be a director in the Cubana group and went to the Bar Beach Police Division on Thursday morning, March 4, following last weekend’s arrest of 172 workers and clubbers at the Victoria Island branch of the nightclub.
The police on Monday, March 1, vowed to arrest the club owners or anyone who came forward to push the reopening of the nightclub as the club had consistently violated the COVID19 protocols.
Confirming his arrest, Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu said Eze would be charged to court after he denied being a director at the club.
“Yes, we have arrested him and I have directed he be transferred to Ikeja where he would be charged to court” Odumosu said
Socialite PrettyMike is currently being held at the Lagos state taskforce office as he is yet to meet his bail condition.
TM earlier reported that Mike Eze, popularly known as Pretty Mike, was arrested on Thursday, March 4 over the failure of Cubana night club to adhere to COVID19 protocols. Recall that on Saturday, February 27, over 200 clubgoers and workers of the club were arrested by the police for failing to adhere to the COVID1919 guidelines.
PrettyMike, who is said to have a stake in the club, went to the Bar Beach police station to see the police over the arrest of the clubgoers and workers. He was immediately arrested as well.

A South African man who claimed to have been haunted by the spirit of his girlfriend he murdered more than 20 years ago has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Collins Lucky Maduane, now aged 52, was sentenced at the high court in Pretoria this week.
He was 31 years old when he strangled Florah Mahlo to death at his Soshanguve home. She was 25.
On the night of September 3 1999, neighbours had heard Mahlo’s screams coming from Maduane’s home. The next morning when they asked about Mahlo’s whereabouts, he claimed she was away, visiting relatives in Johannesburg.
In the year 2000, while Maduane was detained in Bavianspoort Maximum Prison serving a 12-year sentence for attempted murder in another case, he was haunted by Mahlo’s spirit. He then called his sister and confessed, said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
He explained in detail how on that fateful night, he had strangled her, then dragged her body to a nearby bush where he set it alight.
“The following day, he went to where he burnt the body and discovered that it was not completely burnt. He then decided to chop the body into two halves. He chopped the bottom part and threw it in the nearby drain. He then buried the remaining parts,” said Mahanjana.
Seven years after confessing to his sister, Maduane felt the need to also inform Mahlo’s family. He asked to meet her mother but suddenly backed out.
Twelve years later, in 2019, the matter again came up. A fight broke out between Maduane and his niece and his sister was called. When the sister arrived, she found that he was still very emotional and uncontrollably angry.
“Maduane’s sister called a friend and when the friend arrived, she asked why he was always fighting. He asked them to switch off their phones before he spoke. The sister pretended to have switched off her phone and recorded everything,” said Mahanjana.
He told them that he was stressed because since Mahlo passed on, she is troubling him. He confessed. He said he wanted to take them to where he killed her.
After pointing out the places and confessing to the friend and the sister, he requested to meet Mahlo’s mother to confess to her as well. Indeed the mother arrived the following day, he confessed and pointed out as he did to the friend and the sister.”
Maduane, who had previously spent time behind bars for attempted murder, was then rearrested.
Two years later, the court finalised his case – more than two decades after the murder.
“The court believed that Maduane was indeed haunted by the spirit of the deceased because he had successfully evaded justice for years,” said Mahanjana.
Popular American actor and retired professional wrestler, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson have spoken on the possibility of running for president at some point in his career.

A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has dissolved a six-year-old marriage between a trader, Kaosara Okeowo and her husband, Lateef, over alleged threat to life.
The mother of two had told the court that she was in danger because her husband wants to use her for ritual.
Delivering judgment, Chief Ademola Odunade, the President of the court, dissolved the marriage in the interest of peace.
NAN reports that Odunade awarded custody of the two children to Okeowo.
The arbitrator ordered Lateef to pay N10,000 as child support.
Testifying, Okeowo said, “My Lord, things are not going on well. He requests for unusual and personal things from me.”
But Lateef denied the allegations.
”She can go if she wants to leave. I want the court to order her to return his cooking utensils, clothes and a big ram in her custody,” she said.
However, Lateef’s father argued that his son was not a ritualist and that his daughter-in-law was such an opportunist who had seen another man with more money.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has certified AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine safe for use in Nigeria.
Dr Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, made this known on Friday at an event held at the National Hospital in Abuja.
Ehanire explained that the government agency cleared the vaccine for use in Nigeria after NAFDAC concluded its final test on it.
Ehanire said, “The long-awaited day is here on which Nigerians can now join others in the global community to be vaccinated against the dreaded COVID-19 virus.
“For us in the health sector, it is a relief and the marking of the start of a tedious but hopeful exercise to see our fellow citizens develop immunity against this virus.”
He added, “I am also relieved again to announce that at 12 minutes past midnight today (Friday), I got a text message informing me that NAFDAC has certified this vaccine for use, otherwise, we will not be sitting here today.”
A throwback video has resurfaced showing embattled New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo berating the Trump Administration for poorly handling women who came forward to report cases of sexual harrasment and sexual assault.
The video comes after Gov. Cuomo choked up on Wednesday, March 3 as he addressed sexual harassment claims made against him and resisted calls for his resignation.
The governor addressed the mounting accusations for the first time during a remote briefing from the State Capitol, apologizing for acting “in a way that made people feel uncomfortable” and saying he “never touched anyone inappropriately.”

The Ondo State Government has made it compulsory for all students in the state to recite the Oodua Anthem in their schools.
The order reportedly affects all the private and public institutions from primary to tertiary level in the state.
This was contained in a circular sent to all stakeholders from the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
The circular, titled “Recitation of Oodua Anthem in all schools”, was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Akin Asaniyan.
It reads: “Please note that at the just concluded inter-schools debate and award ceremony organised by Ondo State Ministry of Education Science and Technology, held on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the International Culture and Event Center ( The Dome), Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, announced that the state had adopted the Oodua Anthem and it is to be recited by the residents of the state.
“In the light of this development, Mr Governor has directed that the anthem is now compulsory in all public and private schools ( primary and secondary), as well as tertiary institutions in the state, to be recited by all students and teachers henceforth.”
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Karnataka in Bengaluru, has arrested a 32-year-old Nigerian national on charges of drug peddling and seized 500 gms MDMA worth over Rs 40 lakhs (N20,920,346.50)
The suspect identified as Ugochukwu Victor Nwaosu was arrested on Friday, March 5, in Hennur area of the city. The police said he came to India on a student visa.

Pope Francis on Friday, March 5, embarked on an historic trip to war-battered Iraq to comfort one of the world’s oldest and most persecuted Christian communities where more than a million have fled over the past 20 years.
The 84-year-old, who earlier said he was making the first-ever papal visit to Iraq as a ‘pilgrim of peace,’ will also meet the Shiite Muslims when he visits Iraq’s top cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani.
The pope left Rome early Friday for the four-day journey, after boarding a flight at Leonardo da Vinci airport bound for the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
After his arrival in Iraq, the Pope will travel more than 870 miles by plane and helicopter, flying over areas where security forces are still battling IS remnants, Mail Online reports.
For shorter trips, Francis will take an armoured car on paved roads that will be lined with flowers and posters welcoming the leader known there as ‘Baba Al-Vatican’.
Mammoth crowd of sympathizers, former Governors, friends, government officials and associates bid farewell to Nura Dahiru Mangal, the son of Katsina billonaire businessman, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, as his remains were buried today March 4.
TM reported that the 30-year-old University of Manchester graduate was involved in the accident on Wednesday, while riding his power bike along Dutsimma road, Katsina.
The incident reportedly happened not too far from Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. He was rushed to the Katsina General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
His funeral prayer for the deceased was by 10am on Thursday at the Mangal Mosque, Kofar Kwaya, in Katsina.
Also in attendance are the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, among others.
Thousands of fake COVID-19 vaccine doses have been seized in South Africa and China as Interpol warned the raids were ‘only the tip of the iceberg.’
The international police body said roughly 2,400 doses of fake coronavirus vaccines in 400 ampoules were seized with a ‘large quantity’ of face masks at a warehouse in Germiston, South Africa.
Chinese police seized more than 3,000 fake vaccines after a raid on a manufacturing plant.
Authorities also confirmed the arrest of 80 suspects at the scene following the raid.
Interpol claimed it had received more reports of criminal vaccine distribution networks targeting nursing homes and other health bodies.
Pictures from the South Africa raids showed boxes stacked up in a largely empty warehouse, and a box full of fake COVID-19 vaccine ampoules.
‘Whilst we welcome this result, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Covid-19 vaccine-related crime,’ said Interpol Secretary General Juergen Stock.
He added: ‘Following our warning that criminals would target the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, both on and offline, Interpol continues to provide its full support to national authorities working to protect the health and safety of their citizens.’
South African national police said ‘foreign nationals’ trying to sell fake vaccines in the country were among those arrested at the warehouse.
A Chinese Ministry of Public Security spokesperson said: ‘Chinese police are conducting a targeted campaign to prevent and crack down on crimes related to vaccines, proactively investigating and combating crimes related to vaccines in accordance with law.’
Interpol earlier this year issued an ‘Orange Notice’ warning authorities worldwide to prepare for organised crime networks targeting Covid-19 vaccines, both physically and online.
The agency also warned that no approved vaccines are currently available for sale online, and said those buying fake doses from criminal networks were putting themselves at risk.
‘Any vaccine being advertised on websites or the dark web will not be legitimate, will not have been tested, and maybe dangerous,’ it said.
At least 10 rockets were fired towards a military base in western Iraq that hosts U.S.led coalition troops on Wednesday March 3, with an American contractor dying from a resulting heart attack, the US and Iraqi military have announced.
The rockets struck Ain al-Asad airbase in Anbar province at 7:20 a.m., coalition spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto said. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the US believe that Iran is responsible as this was the same base that was attacked last year by Iran in response to the US’ killing of General Soleimani.
It was an unusual attack because the base is rarely targeted and it reportedly had Patriot air defense installed last year.
President Joe Biden, speaking at the White House on Wednesday, told reporters that “we’re following that through right now.”
“Thank God, no one was killed by the rocket — one individual, a contractor, died of a heart attack. But we’re identifying who is responsible and will make judgments from that point,” Biden said.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US will respond to the attack “at a place and time of our choosing,” once it has determined who is responsible.
“The first thing we have to do is get to the bottom of it and find out to the best of our ability who in fact is responsible, and I think the President has been very clear that we will take appropriate action at a place and time of our choosing,” Blinken told the PBS NewsHour later on Wednesday.
British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hickey, has condemned the attack.
“Coalition forces are in Iraq to fight Daesh at the invitation of the Iraqi government,” he tweeted, using the Arabic acronym for IS. “These terrorist attacks undermine the fight against Daesh and destabilize Iraq.”
The attack comes two days before Pope Francis’ is scheduled to visit Iraq in a much anticipated trip that will include Baghdad, southern Iraq and in the northern city of Irbil.
South Korea’s first transgender soldier, who was forcibly discharged after having gender reassignment surgery, has reportedly been found dead.
Firefighters found Byun Hee-soo, 23, in her home in Cheongju, south of Seoul, after a mental health counsellor called emergency services to report that she had not been heard from since Sunday, news agency Yonhap reported on Wednesday, March 3.
Police are investigating her death, it said.
Reports said no note was found but the death was being treated as suicide, with Yonhap citing officials saying she had tried to kill herself three months ago.
Byun, formerly a staff sergeant, enlisted voluntarily in 2017 and went on to have gender confirmation surgery in 2019 in Thailand.
The defence ministry classified the removal of her male genitals as a mental or physical handicap, and a military panel ruled last year that she would be compulsorily discharged.
Byun’s death triggered an outpouring of grief and calls for South Korean MPs to pass an anti-discrimination bill.
“The whole of Korean society bears responsibility for her death,” said a poster on Daum, the country’s second-largest portal.
“Those who ridiculed her and made malicious online comments because she was transgender, I want you to reflect on what you did to her.”
Deputy defence ministry spokesman Moon Hong-sik expressed condolences over what he called “the regrettable death of the late former staff sergeant Byun Hee-soo”.
But he added there had been no detailed discussions about transgender soldiers serving in the military.
Seo Ji-hyun, a prosecutor who triggered the country’s #MeToo movement by going public over sexual harassment she suffered at the hands of her superior, declared following Byun’s death: “We could have saved her … We just had to let her live life true to who she was.”
“Right now anti-discrimination bill”, she added as a hashtag on her Facebook account.
