Presidency Responds to Bishop Kukah’s Easter Sunday Message

The presidency has responded to the Easter message delivered by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah.

In his homily on Sunday, April 4, the Catholic cleric said that insecurity, especially terrorism, has degenerated since 2015 President Buhari came into power.

Responding, the Presidency described Kukah’s message as ungodly.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, the Presidency accused Bishop Kukah of playing partisan politics by dragging the President into his Easter Sunday message.

The statement reads, “All citizens have their individual ideologies, even their own versions of truth.

“But if you profess to being a man of God, as Father Mathew Hassan Kukah does, ideology should not stand in the way of facts and fairness.

“Father Kukah has said some things that are inexplicable in his Easter massage.

“But, in saying that the Boko Haram terrorism is worse than it was in 2015, he did not speak like a man of God. Kukah should go to Borno or Adamawa to ask the citizens there the difference between 2014 and 2021.

“Furthermore, the Hijab issue in Kwara State on which he dwelt is a state matter which the courts of the land have adjudicated.

“They are matters that have appeared in several states as far back as the Obasanjo administration. In all of that, when and where did the name of President Buhari feature?

“He is playing partisan politics by dragging the President into it.

“An administration that has created a whole Ministry, for the first time in the country’s history, appropriating enormous resources to it, to deal with issues of internally displaced persons cannot, in all rightfulness be accused of not caring for them.

“Some of the comments are no more than a sample of the unrestrained rhetoric Fr. Kukah trades in, which he often does in the guise of a homily.

“We urge well-meaning citizens to continue to support the ongoing efforts by the administration to secure the country and move it forward.”

US Capitol Police Officers set to Retire or Change Jobs, after the Attacks – Police Union says

The US Capitol Police is “struggling to meet existing mission requirements” in the aftermath of this year’s second attack at the complex, union chief Gus Papathanasiou has said.

In a statement this weekend, NBC News reports, union chief says the agency is approaching “a crisis in morale and force numbers” just as calls for heightened security are renewed in the aftermath of the death of Capitol Police Officer William “Billy” Evans on Friday.

US Capitol Police Officers

One Capitol Police Officer was killed Friday, and another injured, after a male suspect rammed them with a car at a north entrance to the U.S. Capitol. Some security fencing was removed a week ago after heightened security following the Jan 6. attack at the Capitol.

Members of the National Guard were seen on Friday deploying toward the Capitol barrier following the incident.

US Capitol Police Officers

Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to review Capitol security measures, told ABC’s “This Week” that Capitol Police “are going to have to recruit hard” in order to fulfill the security measures his task force proposed last month.

The plan calls for expanding the force by 1,100 officers and filling approximately 300 current vacancies. He also asked for more mobile or retractable fencing.

Capitol Police union chairman, Gus Papathanasiou has now called on Congress to implement the proposal, but stated that morale is low in the force with some officers ready to retire while others are willing to change jobs.

“We are struggling to meet existing mission requirements even with the officers working massive amounts of forced overtime,” Papathanasiou said, adding that the agency is down 233 officers below its normally 2,000-member force.

“In the next 3-5 years we have another 500 officers who will be eligible to retire. Many of these officers could put in their retirement papers tomorrow. I’ve had many younger officers confide in me that they’re actively looking at other agencies and departments right now.”

“We have now lost two officers in the line of duty this year,” he said.

“Another officer has taken his own life and we have 80 officers who were seriously injured in the insurrection. Some of those injured officers may never return to duty.”

Anthony Martial out for rest of season with knee injury – Manchester United confirms

Manchester United football club of England have received a major blow as Anthony Martial is expected to miss the rest of the season through injury.

The France star limped out of Les Bleus’ Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier clash with Kazakhstan last month and looks set to miss the next few months with what was initially hoped to be a minor knock.

The club has confirmed he has a sprained knee, dampening United’s hopes in the Premier League and Europa League while his chances of making the rescheduled Euro 2020 this summer is now in doubt.

“Unfortunately, he sprained his knee with France,” Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer told MUTV.

“It’s always when they go away on internationals. You can keep your fingers crossed and hope they come back fit.”

Solskjaer added that he was pleased to see Martial’s fellow countryman Paul Pogba come out of injury: “Paul has played in all three games, 30, 60, 90 minutes, so that was a boost for us.

“[But] losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing, especially when reports from there [France] was that it wasn’t anything serious but it looks a bad one.”

Solksjaer also admitted that Edison Cavani’s return to fitness was at least a good news for the club.

“It’s good timing,” he added “He has been working hard to get his fitness and luckily we have him back so that’s a positive.

“When there are international breaks you never know. Some of them used it to stay here and it worked out. A couple have played through the pain and some we have lost. I’m happy we have enough to fill the bench.”

The violence in Ethiopia has been going on since November 2020, when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed ordered attacks on the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) after Ahmed alleged that TPLF had attacked a federal military base.

This isn’t the first time The Weeknd has contributed to a cause as he donated $300,000 to the global Aid for Lebanon campaign last August to help victims of an explosion in Beirut that killed over 200 people.

He also donated $500,000 to racial justice groups: the Black Lives Matter Global Network, Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp and the National Bail Out Collective following the killing of George Floyd.

How to Add DMARC Record in CloudFlare’s DNS

This post provides step-by-step instructions on how to add a DMARC record in CloudFlare.

About DMARC records

First of all, a DMARC record is a TXT record published to the DNS for your domain, under dmarc.yourdomain.com, where “yourdomain.com” is your actual domain or subdomain. It tells the email receiver what to do when an email message fails DMARC authentication, and also where to send reports on email delivery statistics.

For more information on DMARC records, refer to: Everything about a DMARC Record.

Generate your DMARC record

Before moving on, make sure you have generated your DMARC record, using our free DMARC record generator.

Publish the DMARC record in CloudFlare

Now the record is ready, follow the steps below to publish it!

1. Log in to CloudFlare

Navigate to cloudflare.com, enter your credentials to log in to its dashboard.

2. Locate your domain

On the CloudFlare dashboard’s home page, find your domain you want to add the DMARC record to, then click it, as highlighted below:

How to Add DMARC Record in CloudFlare's DNS

In this example, we are adding the record to domain dmarcly.com.

3. Manage DNS

Click the DNS button, as shown below:

How to Add DMARC Record in CloudFlare's DNS

Now you will see the DNS section, where you can create a DMARC record for your domain.

4. Create the record entry

Enter the settings for your DMARC record, as shown below:

How to Add DMARC Record in CloudFlare's DNS

Make sure the record type is TXT, name is set to _dmarc, value is set to the record generated above. Click the Add Record button. Now you have added the record!

5. Check the published DMARC record

If you want to check the published DMARC record, you can use our free DMARC record checker. Note that the change you made in the last step might take some time to propagate in the DNS, therefore, if you can’t find the record, give it up to 1 hour then retry.

That’s how you add a DMARC record in CloudFlare.

Archbishop of Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, found dead in his bedroom

The Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kampala, Uganda, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has died, the Catholic Church has said.

The Archbishop was reportedly found dead in his bedroom on Saturday morning, April 3. He was aged 68.

Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga

Fr Pius Male Ssentumbw confirmed the news in a statement released on Saturday afternoon.

“With deep sorrow, I hereby inform you that our beloved Shepherd, the Archibishop of Kampala Archdiocese, His Grace Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has been called to the House of the Lord. The Archbishop was found dead in his room this morning. We pray that the Almighty and Merciful God may grant him eternal rest. Further arrangements will be communicated later,” he said.

Dr Lwanga was last seen in public on Friday, April 2, 2021, when he said mass at Rubaga Catholic church where he led the homily of Good Friday celebration.

In December last year, the Archbishop was in the spotlight for calling for postponement of January 2021 elections.

Addressing journalists in Kampala, Dr Lwanga who appeared with some members of the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) which he chaired suggested that the presidential elections be postponed for three years to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Later, Dr Lwanga said his suggestion had been misinterpreted by the public before he decried growing cases of misinformation on social media which he said several Ugandans w

During a sermon on Good Friday in April 2018, Dr Lwanga revealed that his life had been threatened by an anonymous caller who claimed the state had received information linking him to a plot to overthrow the government.

The caller reportedly told him that government had recruited informants within the church’s ‘set up’- who had surrendered information to the president on the alleged plot.

“A few days ago I got a telephone call and on the the telephone you can see the number of the person but it had ‘private’, so I didn’t know [who was calling]. This person had an accent from western Uganda and this is what he told me. That ‘there are many lies being told to the president’. Two, that ‘even members of these organisations have recruited your priests, your sisters, your brothers, even catechists and even seminarians.’ And I said, ‘what?’ the Archbishop said.

“Even this man [anonymous caller] told me last week that be careful my Grace. You might be the next [Janan] Luwum. I said my goodness! If God wants me to die that way, I will. But if I am going to die for wrong accusations, that is criminal. You know for murdering people there are two things; you can shoot a person over what they call character assassination. So some members of ESO, ISO, CMI etcetera, they are character assassinating people and that is not good. But fortunately, those of you who are believers, there is still in a period of lent which are concluding tomorrow…I kindly call upon you to repent and stop telling lies.” Lwanga pleaded.

Meanwhile, President Museveni has joined a growing list of government officials, opposition politicians and other members of the public to eulogise the Archbishop.

“With profound grief, I have learnt of the death of Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga. I join the Catholic Church, all religious faithful, and the country in mourning Archbishop Lwanga. He has died in faith. May God grant his soul eternal repose,” the president tweeted.

Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga

The ICT Minister, Ms Judith Nabakooba in her condolence message called for calm and asked the public to refrain from spreading speculations and what she described as false rumors about the death of the Archbishop.

“Let us remain calm and wait for the church to give their last word and probably the doctors once they are done with their investigations but right now, we should remain calm and only pray for his soul,” she said.

National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine said it was “a dark day for the Catholic Church, and a dark day for Uganda.”

“I’ve learnt with shock about the sudden death of His Grace Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, the Archbishop of Kampala. It will be very hard to cope with this unimaginable loss,” added the former presidential contender.

NDLEA arrests Drug Dealer with over N500M Heroin at Abuja Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a drug trafficker, Goodluck Igbineweka Odeh, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, NAIA, with 2kilogramme of heroin, which has a street value of N564million, concealed in the lining of false bottom of his suitcase.

Spokesperson of the agency, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, April 4, said the 40-year-old suspect from Ikpoba Okha Local Government area of Edo state, was arrested at the departure lounge of the Abuja airport during an outward clearance of Ethopian aircraft 911 enroute Abuja-Addis Ababa-Italy.

Under interrogation, Odeh claimed he has been living in Italy since 2015 when he got into the country through Libya. He said he works as a labourer in a farm in Italy with a pay of about 50 Euro a day, adding that he also works as a flyer distributor when farming season is over and gets as much as 50 Euro/day.

Odeh claimed he came to Nigeria over two weeks ago to see his family in Nigeria and also use same opportunity to buy foodstuffs to sell on his return to Italy.

He added that after spending some days between Edo and Delta states where he bought some foodstuffs, he equally travelled to Lagos to buy part of the foodstuffs and bushmeat, which according to him is cheaper.

The suspect claimed he did not know how the drug found its way into the bag as he bought the suitcase from a second hand material open market in Lagos not knowing that it contained the drug. When further asked of the market address, he said he does not know the address.

Odeh said he was accompanied to the market where he bought the suitcase by a man he claimed he first met the day he arrived Lagos from Benin, adding that he came into Abuja from Lagos for onward trip to Italy.

According to the Commander, Abuja airport Command of NDLEA, Kabir Sani Tsakuwa, charges has already been filed against the suspect while further investigations continue to explore other leads on the case.

In his reaction to the latest drug bust, Chairman of the anti-drug law enforcement agency, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the Commander, officers and men of the Abuja airport for their vigilance.

He said wherever the criminal elements go to export or import illicit drugs through our borders, they will surely have the new NDLEA to contend with.

Lagos State Govt. launches training programe for law enforcement officers to use body camera (photos)

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, March 31, approved a mass training for the State’s law enforcement agents on the use of body-worn cameras, ahead of the deployment of the digital tools for security operations across the State.

The three-day training, which will commence in May, will be facilitated by the State’s Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), headed by Prince Oyekan Falade. After the training, all State-funded law enforcement officers will be commissioned to wear body cameras for their operations.

body camera

At the launch of the training today, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the move would improve transparency and accountability in the activities of law enforcement agencies, and put the State Government in a better position to respond to security challenges in real-time.

“I am pleased to inaugurate the use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement officers in Lagos and this is a groundbreaking move to enhance safety in the State, as well as increase transparency and accountability in the activities of our law enforcement agencies. Lagos State has strategically set the pace among other States in Nigeria to launch the use of body worn cameras by law enforcement officers.

The security challenges in different parts of the country are worrisome, but with proactive action, the use of modern technological tools, and a mix of well-trained and intelligent officers, we will successfully combat many of these challenges. With body-worn cameras, our law enforcement officers are better equipped to protect lives and properties, thereby, making Lagos safer for us all.”he said

The governor said the launch of the body-worn cameras would take the Government a step closer towards fulfilling its security agenda, stressing that the introduction of devices to frontline security team and officers would enhance their productivity and professionalism, while also fast-tracking law enforcement process.

The cameras, the Governor pointed out, will help the State Government check abuse of power and excesses by security personnel, while also improving the safety and accountability of officers, who will use the devices for evidence sharing and intelligence gathering.

“I am hopeful that all officers will optimise the cameras that will be assigned to them for the furtherance of justice and improvement of the law enforcement process. Our Government will continue to prioritise the welfare of our law enforcement officers whose pivotal efforts we acknowledge in the entrenchment of a safe city,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said

Lady calls out her mom for allegedly making out with her husband

A lady has cried out on social media after she allegedly found her mother making out with her husband on their matrimonial bed.

Lady calls out her mom

Sharing her story via Facebook platform, “LOM”, she wrote;

“I saw my mom and my husband making out. Instead of my mom to be remorseful, she slapped me and told me I should be grateful that she allowed me to marry him that she knew him before me.

And because I was desperate to get married and her lover who is now my husband is also ready to get married, she planned it all and made both of us to fall in love so she would be close to him without suspicion since she is older than him. It is now so clear to me why my mom was persuading me to marry him. I was just used. I feel like dying.”

Falola, made this known while replying to a divorce application from Opeyemi, who has been married to him for 28 years.

“I cannot get over the sight of my wife in bed with her lovers from my head.

“My lord, it became a psychological problem for me.

“In fact, it was her senior brother known as Moshood who is my own friend that settled the matter before I allowed her to return to my house.

“I made Opeyemi my favourite among my eight wives because I give her everything she asked for,” he said.

Opeyemi in her petition, told the court: “I wasted a whole 28 years in an unhappy and uneventful union with my husband.

“I have never had peace of mind while with him. He has turned me into his punching bag.

”He is irresponsible and does not provide for our five children.

“Some of the children have dropped out of school,” Opeyemi said.

In his ruling, the President of the court, Chief Henry Agbaje, advised the couple to be more patient, especially because of their children.

Agbaje ordered Falola and Opeyemi to furnish the court with more evidence to substantiate their claims in addition to coming back with their relatives.

He adjourned the suit until April 12 for judgment. (NAN)

“I discovered that my husband was living in an uncompleted building after we got married” – Wife

Her father buried my son’s placenta, conducted his naming ceremony without my consent —Husband

Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned a divorce suit brought before it by a man, Blessing Benjamin, against his wife, Ayodele Benjamin.

Blessing in his divorce suit accused his wife of abandoning and denying him access to their only child.

The plaintiff told the court that his wife’s desertion of him showed that she was no longer interested in him. She, thus, prayed the court to end their marriage.

Ayodele initially did not accede to divorce but she changed her mind after listening to her husband’s testimony.

Samson stated that, “I’m a teacher. I live in Ibadan but established a school at Ogunmakin. I stay in Ogunmakin from Monday to Friday and return to Ibadan at weekends.

“I made this known to my wife while we were dating and she didn’t show any objection to this.

“To my surprise, she became adamant and insisted she wasn’t going to stay at Ogunmakin with me. She insisted she would hold on to her job in Ibadan.

“Ayodele stated that Ogunmakin was a village and remote and as such she could not live there.

“I begged and appealed to my wife before she agreed to come to Ogunmakin with me. Being also a teacher, she joined me in the school but she ensured that I didn’t have peace of mind.

“Ayodele was full of complaints. She was always nagging. She saw nothing good in the environment we were living in while she despised the school I was running.

“We often had misunderstanding and we would end up fighting.

“My wife packed her belongings and left my house without a clue as to her whereabouts. I later learnt she was with her parents.

“Ayodele was pregnant with our child when she left and I heard nothing from her until November 11, 2020, when she called to inform me of the birth of our son.

“I went with a friend to check on her at the hospital in Ogun State. I asked for our child’s placenta and to my chagrin, she told me it had been buried by her father.

“My lord, to make matter worse, my wife and his parents conducted our child’s christening without my knowledge or consent. They went along to give him a name.

“I learnt at the hospital where she put to bed five days before she informed me.

“His parents refused that I see our son in the hospital. I heard him crying in the room where he was hidden.

“I left the hospital in anger. A few weeks after this, I received a call from the Welfare Office located in Ogun State Secretariat, asking that I show up in their office.

“At the office, Ayodele declared that she was no more interested in our marriage. I was therefore asked to make arrangement for our child’s care.

“I called Ayodele several times after this but she refused to pick my calls. She also refused that I have access to our child.

“I was asked to pay her hospital bill which was N177,000, but I refused. My lord, I refused because she did not take me along when she went to register at the hospital which is private. Neither was I the one who signed when caesarean operation was to be carried out on her.

“The Welfare officer requested that I give Ayodele N12, 000 every month as our son’s feeding allowance but I appealed to them that I could afford only N5, 000 due to the effect of Covid-19 on my school.

“I paid N15, 000 at a go to cover for the month of December 2020 and then January and February 2021.

“Despite this, Ayodele and her family members still deny me access to our child.

“My lord, our marriage ceased to be the moment Ayodele walked out of it. I beg this honourable court to officially end it and rule that I have access to our son any time it pleases me,” he pleaded.

“My lord, I initially refused to admit to divorce because I thought Blessing would show a sign of remorse but it is glaring from all the lies he told that he can never change.

“My lord, I have changed my mind. I, agree that you separate us,” Ayodele declared.

“I’m surprised that Blessing still had the guts to drag me to court despite the harrowing experience I had married to him.

“We have been married for one and a half years but lived together for only seven months before he threw my belongings out. He was the one who asked me to leave his house.

“Our plan when we were about getting married was that I would stay back in Ibadan where I work and that he would come home every weekend since he works outside Ibadan, Ogunmakin precisely.

“He told me he would soon establish another school in Ibadan which I would run, being a teacher, and I believed him.

“We got married on 26 December, 2019. A week after this, he demanded that I move to Ogunmakin with him.

“I initially refused, but he begged me and requested that I stayed there with him for only the first term. According to him, we would return to Ibadan at weekends and I reluctantly agreed.

“I resigned from my teaching job in Ibadan and moved to Ogunmakin with him. This happened to be the greatest mistake I have ever made in life.

“My lord, I got to Ogunmakin and realised that the place was a village and remote.

“I was expecting to see a big school like the one I resigned from but what I saw was a far cry from this. My husband and I lived in an uncompleted building with no doors or windows.

“On January 13, 2020, Blessing woke me up in the middle of the night, demanding to know why I had not got pregnant. He became rash and asked that I go to my parents’ to seek for solution.

“I moved to my parents’ house and was there for about two weeks but moved back to him after the issue was resolved.

“Since our income was low since the school was yielding little or nothing, I advised that we bake cakes and sell on Valentine Day. He agreed and I did. But unfortunately, we recorded a loss because we were only able to sell 10 cakes out of the 50 cakes I baked, the reason been that the people in this community are not exposed. They know nothing about Valentine’s Day. We both ate the remaining cakes.

“He bought the pregnancy test kit in February and it revealed that I was pregnant.

“I took ill in March and asked that he gave me money to register in the hospital instead of carrying out self medication but he refused. He beat me blue black and threw my belongings out again, but we were later reconciled.

“I advised him that we move back to Ibadan and hold lessons for pupils after schools were closed down due to the spread of Covid-19 but he refused. He insisted we hold lessons at Ogunmakin. We did but only two pupils attended.

“My lord, despite dying of hunger due to lack of fund, my husband still beat me. He didn’t care that I was pregnant.

“I reported him to his parents and they told me to look for something to sell in the market. According to my father in-law, he never gave my mother in-law feeding allowance.

“He again beat me to a pulp on August 10, 2020, threw my belongings out and locked the door behind me. He sent me away from his house with only my wrapper on me.

“I’ve been with my parents since then. I called him before and after I had our baby but he refused to pick my calls.

“My lord, he and his friend who is a policeman have been harassing me since then, “she concluded.

The court president, Chief Olasunkanmi Agbaje, after he had heard both parties, adjourned the case and asked that they come with their child and parents.

Religious extremists in Bauchi seize man from police custody, beat him to death, burn his corpse for alleged blasphemy

It was a case of religious extremism taken too far coupled with the demonstration of jungle justice when a middle-aged water vendor in Sade Village of Darazo LGA in Bauchi state, Talle Mai Ruwa, was set ablaze and burnt to ashes by yet to be arrested religious bigots.

Information has it that the late Talle Mai Ruwa who was believed to be mentally derailed was forcefully seized from a police outpost station in the village by a mob where he was being detained for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and lynched him in broad daylight on Tuesday.

Another report had it that the irate youths had beaten him to death before dragging his lifeless body around the village before setting the corpse on fire by using old tyres and petrol burning it to ashes.

A source in the village who spoke to our correspondent in Bauchi said that the late Talle who was hardworking and easy-going allegedly made the blasphemy on Monday when a girl came to fetch water from his water source, a borehole, without his consent and the aggrieved water vendor kicked her bucket and spilt it.

The source narrated that the girl pleaded with him in the name of God and the Prophet to allow her to fetch the water but he was angry that he allegedly insulted her parents and the Prophet whom she mentioned while begging for the water.

It was further gathered that his alleged blasphemous remarks triggered outburst and tension in the village such that the village head took him to the police outpost station in the village where he spent the night.

The source added that, “The next morning (Tuesday), the issue spread everywhere and everyone in the village was provoked. Later, a group of angry youths stormed the police station, subdued the police officers around and grabbed Talle. He was beaten to death and his dead body was burnt.”

Another source said that the irate youths dragged him to the front of his compound where his aged mother helplessly watched his body set ablaze and burnt to ashes.

As it is now, the issue has become the subject of debate in Bauchi among residents who are trying to see the justification of the barbaric action of the irate youths who have taken the laws into their hands coupled with the inability of the police to curtail them

All efforts to get Bauchi State Police Command to confirm the incident failed as of the time of filing in the report, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakili neither pick up the phone when his number was called severally nor reply the SMS and WhatsApp message sent to his number.

Nathan Baggaley, Olympics champion and his brother found guilty in $152 million cocaine heist

Australian Olympic champion, Nathan Baggaley and his brother Dru have been found guilty of trying to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of cocaine valued at more than $150 million into the country in 2018.

According to Nine News,  Nathan Baggaley, who won two silver medals at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens for kayaking, and his brother had pleaded not guilty but an Australian jury in Brisbane jury found both men guilty following a two-week trial.

Back in 2018 Dru Baggaley and another man were arrested after law enforcement intercepted their boat

Authorities seized more than 500 kilograms of cocaine, according to court documents.

Olympics champion Nathan Baggaley and his brother found guilty in $152 million cocaine plot

The boat had met a larger foreign vessel off the coast of New South Wales and was subsequently intercepted, according to the prosecution’s case as outlined in court documents.

A press release from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) notes the men tried to evade law enforcement and video footage showed them throwing bags overboard.

Nathan Baggaley, who wasn’t on board the boat at the time of the arrests, purchased the vessel and directed the installation of navigation technology, according to court documents.

Court documents from the prosecutor show evidence linking Nathan Baggaley to the case, as his fingerprint was found on a piece of tape used to cover the boat’s registration plate.

The prosecutor also detailed how the Olympian attempted to contact his brother Dru while he was at sea.

It’s not the first time the brothers have been convicted and served time in connection with drugs charges in the past.

They now face possibility of life imprisonment.

Why I sold ‘incredible’ Kelechi Iheanacho to Leicester City – Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has praised Leicester City and Super Eagles of Nigeria stars Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi as his side is set to take on the Foxes at King Power Stadium on Saturday, April 3.

Iheanacho has been in terrific form for Leicester recently, scoring seven goals in his last four games, including a hat-trick against Sheffield United which earned him the premier league player of the month award for March.

By winning the Premier League Player of the Month for March, Iheanacho becane the fourth Nigerian to clinch the individual accolade after Jay-Jay Okocha, Peter Odemwingie and Odion Ighalo.

Guardiola, who needs to win against Leicester City to cement his side’s chances of winning the premier league has praised the impact of his former player Iheanacho while revealing that he was allowed to leave Manchester City in 2017 to enable him to secure more playing time.

“Incredible. The quality was there, he was a young player here and I believe, at that moment with Gabriel and Sergio we didn’t have much space,” Guardiola said in a pre-match press conference.

“He is a fantastic person, we had a good relationship, and I’m delighted it’s going well lately. He’s playing for the injured Maddison and he links really well with the midfield.

“He’s good in behind, he’s fast and in the final third he has the right tempo, he is so clear in front of the goal.”

Guardiola also added that he is wary of Brendan Rodgers star player Wilfred Ndidi, who he described as a quality player.

“You see all the players, they have quality. Ndidi is going well, [Youri] Tielemans is a top-class player,” he added.

Iheanacho has made 28 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes this season, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists.

Manchester City are 14 points clear on the Premier League table and victory over Leicester at King Power Stadium will see them further increase their lead.

Cape Verdean Authorities deported Nigerians because they were carrying African Passports

A Nigerian researcher has claimed that she and others were deported by Cape Verdean authorities because they’re black and were carrying a passport from an African country.

@Aloinett revealed that all the white people who arrived Praia airport with them were allowed in including a black friend with an American passport.

She said the officials told them they are not allowed to visit because of COVID-19, but when asked why they allowed the white people in, the officials said they decide who will go and who will stay.

She tweeted;

So I got deported today. Mostly because I am black but also because I am Nigerian. I got on a flight to Praia, #CapeVerde from Dakar, Senegal but have now been sent back to Dakar.

Everything was fine until we got to the airport in Praia. Then some of us were pulled aside because we were there to visit. This group included an Italian couple, my Sudanese-American friend, a Spanish couple, a Kenyan, an Ivorian, a Jordanian, a Guinean and four Nigerians.

All of the white people were allowed to go through as well as my black friend with an American passport. Then some woman came and snatched the passports from the rest of us without any explanation. Another guy came and told us that they were sending us back.

Why? That we were not allowed to visit because of COVID. Then we asked why the white people and my American friend were let through. They said they decided who could stay and who could go. So everyone with a Western passport went through. In West Africa. In #CapeVerde.

I guess the first sign that something was off was when my AirBnB host asked my nationality then told me to come with some evidence of funds if I was traveling with a Nigerian passport. Funny thing is the only thing they looked at were our passports. Didn’t ask for anything else.

The only non-black person that was deported with us, a Jordanian, thinks he was lumped with us because he has Nigerian visas in his passport. Before we left this morning, my American friend was joking about her passport privilege. Who knew we were about to learn how true it was.

Anyway, we’re still at the airport waiting for our passports like criminals. Glad for the experience because pushing for ECOWAS is one thing, and seeing the reality of integration is another. I just wanted to check Cape Verde off my West Africa list and happy to stay in Dakar.

I’ve been having a lot of conversations with friends that have been unsuccessfully trying to convince me to “get a second passport”. So this was a stark reminder about the reality of being a Nigerian in the world and in Africa. Good bye #CapeVerde. Shame on you.

We’re learning from Dakar Airport officials that this has been a regular occurrence with @FlyAirSenegal and Cape Verde. They sell tickets everyday and return people everyday. The officials complained that Cape Verde is particularly problematic.

Also, dealing with Senegalese officials was so much better than the rudeness of the ones we met in Cape Verde. Made us feel like human beings and tried their best to help. They were empathetic and sped up the process of returning our passports. New appreciation for #Teranga.

Way forward – 1) @FlyAirSenegal  must provide sufficient warning about the “regulations” in Praia. 2) Cape Verdian authorities should not be allowed to apply rules selectively based on race and passports. They were not shy about it and it’s not okay.

And to everyone asking, we’re fine. On our way home. I’ve always said that I won’t stay anywhere I’m not welcome. So as soon as they said they were sending us back, I erased Cape Verde from my mind. Will never beg anyone to let me in their country. Let’s all try to do better.

Man films bomb shelter from ‘2027’ and claims to be the last man alive in the future

A man who claimed to have travelled six years into the future has filmed himself wandering into a bomb shelter.

Javier shared videos he says are from the future and told his followers on TikTok that he is the “last man alive” in the city of Valencia, Spain, in 2027.

He regularly uploaded footages of empty streets and shops where no single person can be seen.

In one of his latest video, he stumbles across a shelter at the factory-turned-art museum.

He says: “The other day I found this shelter at the Bombas Gens art centre.”

As he walks towards the entrance, he turns on the switch to reveal a staircase leading underground.

Javier enters and finds a sign on a wall, saying: “Do not park in a dangerous area.

“No smoking or spitting.”

He then explains that he’s there because of a noise he heard.

According to the art centre website, the air-raid shelter is an empty shell case built during the Spanish Civil war and it was intended to protect the workers at the Bombas Gens factory.

But it was never used due to the missing parts inside.

Javier’s video has amassed hundreds of thousands of views and led to an argument as some argue the video was edited.

Kylian Mbappe tells himself he is better than Messi and Cristiano before matches

France and Paris Saint-Germain star, Kylian Mbappe has admitted that he tells himself he is better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo before matches as he feels it’s important to have an inflated ego.

Mbappe has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence at Paris Saint-Germain over the past four years and many football fans feel he is the man to take over as the best player in world football when Messi and Ronaldo finally retire.

According to Mbappe, 22, seeing himself above the Barcelona star and Juventus striker is a self-motivation tactic, saying it’s necessary if you want to reach the highest level of the game.

“The ego? Of course, it’s important because when you’re in the rough, no one else is going to push you,” Mbappe told RMC Sport.

“And you have to convince yourself that you are capable of toppling mountains.

“People don’t understand ego but when you are not well there is no one who will come to your house to tell you that you can do that. It’s just you and your mindset. It’s just you. You have to convince yourself that you are capable of doing great things.

“Every time I go on a pitch I always tell myself that I’m the best and yet I have played on grounds where there was Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. They are better players than me, they have done a billion more things than me. But, in my head, I always tell myself that I’m the best because that way you don’t give yourself limits and you try to give your best.”

Mbappe added “Of course, sometimes people do not understand because I think there is perhaps also this barrier which is created in relation to this subject, where one does not really explain what the ego is.

“For people, the ego is just not giving a friend a penalty, having a better salary than the player of the rival team. It’s not just that, it’s also in the preparation. It’s a personal thing, to surpass yourself, it’s way beyond that superficial thing of saying ‘me, me’. But I think there is quite a bit to be said about it.”

Mbappe has already won ten domestic trophies, including four Ligue 1 titles, while scoring 150 goals across all competitions.

He is also a World Cup winner, however, Messi and Ronaldo have shared 11 Ballon d’Or’s between them over the last 12 years.

Police Unveils Secret Instagram Group where Teenage Girls Prepare to Commit Suicide

Police have uncovered a secret Instagram group named ‘suicide’ involving twelve girls, aged between 12 and 16 years old across southern England, where the young girls plan to have “suicidal crises” and “serious self-harm”.

According to the BBC, the police investigation discovered the online group when three of the girls went missing and were found seriously unwell in London.

The group of girls travelled by train to meet in London.

They were found seriously unwell in a street and taken by ambulance to hospital for emergency treatment.

One of the girls mentioned they had first met each other online and discussed suicide, according to the police briefing.

Police officers then examined digital devices to identify the name of the online group and its other members.

Seven of the 12 girls had self-harmed prior to being traced by the police. Children’s social care services from seven different local authorities have been involved in safeguarding children identified as members of the group.

Police said in a statement to BBC that “peer-to-peer influence increased suicidal ideation amongst the children involved to the extent that several escalated to suicidal crises and serious self-harm.”

Instagram says it found no evidence of its rules being broken as it uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to hunt and block self-harm posts and groups.

Some of the children had met on other social media platforms but were part of a closed Instagram group – a direct message thread – whose title used the words “suicide” and “missing”.

Facebook, which owns Instagram, does not deny that the name of the closed group referenced “suicide” but says it has not been removed from the platform because the content of the messages does not break its rules.

In a statement, a company spokesperson said it was co-operating with the police.

“We reviewed reports and found no evidence of the people involved breaking our rules around suicide and self harm.

“We don’t allow graphic content, or content that promotes or encourages suicide or self-harm, and will remove it when we find it.

“We’ll continue to support the police and will respond to any valid legal request for information.”

Ladies are now injecting ‘maggi cubes’ for bigger butts – Nigerian Doctor warns

A medical doctor has revealed that a number of women now inject seasoning cubes into their butt to make it bigger and he warned of the adverse effects of such practice.

He shared an old video of a documentary where women who are involved in the practice opened up about injecting seasoning cubes with the hopes that the sodium and oil in it will make their butt larger.

He warned that the salt in the cubes could be absorbed by the lining of the anus and this will go into the bloodstream.

He said the excessive salt in the bloodstream could lead to hypertension.

Nigerian Govt. proposes to spend N396B on COVID19 vaccination – Finance Minister says

Zainab Ahmed

The Federal Government says it is proposing to spend the sum of N396 billion for the COVID19 vaccination exercise across the country between the years of 2021 and 2022.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed disclosed this after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, March 31.

Ahmed explained that the figure may significantly reduce as the Federal Government receives more donations of the vaccines from the private sector. She added that the Ministry of Health is working on details of the gap that the Federal Government will be required to fill in the vaccination exercise.

She also explains that the size of the proposed supplementary budget agreed by the executive and legislative arm is yet to be resolved, because the Ministry of Defence is yet to provide details of the military hardware requirement.

Ahmed had earlier in February said a supplementary budget will be needed to cover the cost of COVID-19 vaccinations, for which no provision was made in the 2021 finance bill adopted in December.

The Federal Government has said it plans to inoculate 40% of Nigeria’s population this year and another 30% in 2022.

Donnie McClurkin reveals that he maybe alone forever because of his sexuality

Gospel singer, Donnie McClurkin, is opening up yet again about his sexuality.

Speaking in a recent episode of TV One’s Uncensored, he said he has had relationships with men and women and fears he may end up alone for the rest of his life.

McClurkin, 61, had previously opened up years ago about his past struggles with homosexuality, which he called a “perversion,” and claimed that he was able to suppress his sexual orientation.

He admitted that he still had urges to be with men but chose not to.

Comparing homosexuality to diabetes he said: “I don’t eat sugar, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t want sugar.”

Now, the Grammy Award-winning artist says he believes his struggle over his sexuality will leave him without the family he always dreamed of.

He said on Uncensored: “I didn’t know really what a woman wanted.I’ve messed up more than I’ve had good. My past relationships were a sprinkling of everything – men and women.”

He added: “When things get rough I go back into my safe place – my music and my ministry.

“Never having a long-term relationship in my life and never being married, I chalked that up. I will probably be alone for the rest of my life as far as a mate is concerned.”

McClurkin had previously written about his struggles with his attraction to men, blaming his desires on being a victim of child molestation.

Chinese man jumps into furnace after losing £6k on stock market

A Chinese factory worker jumped into a super-heated 900C steel furnace and was burnt alive after allegedly losing £6,000 on the stock market.

Wang Long, 34, went missing from a night shift at the Chinese steel factory where he worked before surveillance footage revealed the disturbing chain of events leading to his death.

A shocking video shows the man looking into the furnace during a smelting operation, before taking off his helmet and jumping into the furnace.

His employers, Baogang Group, said it was suspected his death was related to a “large amount of losses” and that he “could not repay his heavy debts.”

Wang Long had worked for the company, one of China’s major steel producers, for more than a decade.

According to colleagues, the “introverted” factory worker, who was unmarried, had been trading on the stock market for a long time.

He is said to have lost more than 60,000 yuan – about £6,000 – from his investments on the day of his death when China’s financial indexes fell to their lowest in three months.

“It’s suspected that his suicide was related to the large amount of losses and that he could not repay his heavy debts,” said the steel company in a statement.

“We feel deeply sorry for his death. We are proactively appeasing the emotions of his family and carrying out psychological guidance for our workers.”

The management team at Baogang Group’s plant in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, said counselling would be given to other employees after the tragedy.

Police have determined the steel worker’s death to be suicide, after ruling out murder.

Sokoto: Fraudster bags 70 years jail term in Sokoto (photo)

Justice Bello Duwale of the Sokoto State High Court, sitting in Sokoto on Thursday, April 1, 2021, convicted and sentenced a fraudster, Hamzat Muhammad Bashar, to seventy years imprisonment without an option of fine.

Justice Duwale pronounced his verdict on Bashar after he was found guilty of obtaining Twenty Nine Million Eight Hundred and Sixty-Five Thousand Naira (N29,865,000.00) by false pretense.

He was arraigned, by the Sokoto Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on November 7, 2019, on a 12-count amended charge, bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretense.

Count one of the charge reads:

“That you Hamzat Bashar Muhammad, Hindatu Bashar (Now at Large) and Hamga Investment Resources Limited sometimes within the months of June to December, 2018 at Sokoto within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, did obtain the total sum of N23,760,000 (Twenty Three Million Seven Hundred and Sixty Naira) from Hadiza Aliyu (for herself and other victims) when you falsely represented yourselves to her, to be running a genuine business investment of Gold and Herbs, a pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act of 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.”

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges, which necessitated his trial.

Prosecution counsel, Habila Jonathan, in the course of the trial called ten witnesses and tendered several documents to prove the case against the defendant.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Duwale ruled that the EFCC has proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt; convicted the defendant on counts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12.

He then sentenced him to seven years in prison without an option of fine on each of the 10 counts, which will run concurrently.

In addition, the Judge ordered the convict to restitute the total sum of N29,135,000 (Twenty Nine Million One Hundred and Thirty-Five Thousand Naira) to the victims through the EFCC.

Basha’s trouble started when the EFCC received a petition from one Imran Ahmed and several other victims, alleging he had defrauded them to the tune of N29,865,000.00 (Twenty Nine Million, Eight Hundred and Sixty-Five Thousand) in a phony investment scheme in which they were promised 20 percent returns on investment every month and dividends at the end of the year. However after investing various sums of money, they neither received the 20% returns nor got any dividends.

United States gets $335M from Sudan as compensation for victims of terrorist attacks

The United States has received $335 million from Sudan as settlement that will be paid out to victims and families of individuals impacted by the 1998 bombings at the US Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, the 2000 attack on the USS Cole, and the murder of a USAID employee in Khartoum.

More than 200 people were killed and thousands were injured in 1998 when twin al Qaeda bombings rocked the US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Sudan, under the leadership of ousted President Omar al-Bashir, sheltered Osama bin Laden and was found to have assisted the al Qaeda operatives.

US receives $335M from Sudan as compensation for victims of terrorist attacks

USAID official John Granville was ambushed and assassinated in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum on New Year’s Day 2008.

In October 2000, 17 US Navy sailors were killed and 39 were injured when the USS Cole was attacked by suicide bombers while in Yemen for refueling. The government of Sudan denied its involvement in the attack. In 2014, a US court concluded that Sudan had provided al Qaeda with aid that led to the attack.

US receives $335M from Sudan as compensation for victims of terrorist attacks

In a statement on Wednesday March 31, US Secretary of State Tony Blinken confirmed receipt of the money.

“Achieving compensation for these victims has been a top priority for the Department of State. We hope this aids them in finding some resolution for the terrible tragedies that occurred,” Blinken said.

The huge settlement was a necessary component in lifting Sudan’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The money also lifts off a series of restrictions including a ban on defense exports and sales and restrictions on US foreign assistance.

The Trump administration removed that designation after the $335M was transferred to an escrow account and after Sudan announced it had agreed to normalize relations with Israel, both in October 2020.

The money was held in that escrow account until Sudan’s sovereign immunities which prevent it from being sued in federal court were restored.

“The Department of State received the $335 million in compensation agreed upon for victims of certain terrorism attacks … from Sudan via the release of funds from an escrow account,”

Blinken said Wednesday that the State Department last week “transmitted to Congress the Secretary’s certification restoring Sudan’s sovereign immunities pursuant to the Sudan Claims Resolution Act enacted last December.”

“We appreciate Sudan’s constructive efforts over the past two years to work with us to resolve these long-outstanding claims,” Blinken said.

“With this challenging process behind us, U.S.-Sudan relations can start a new chapter.”

“We look forward to expanding our bilateral relationship and to continuing our support for the efforts of the civilian-led transitional government to deliver freedom, peace, and justice to the Sudanese people,” he said.

A State Department spokesperson said the $335 million from Sudan is “in addition to $72.5 million in an already paid private settlement with a number of USS COLE victims.”

“This concludes a multi-year process to negotiate a bilateral claims agreement and secure the enactment of legislation that provides for the restoration of Sudan’s immunities,” they said.

Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid captain, reveals calf injury

Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos has revealed he has picked up a calf injury whilst on international duty with Spain and looks set to miss the Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool and El Clasico clash with Barcelona.

The 35-year-old defender featured for Spain against Kosovo on Wednesday, March 31, but in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday, Ramos disclosed he had picked up a problem in his left calf.

Reports coming out of Spain indicate Ramos will be out for a month, meaning he won’t be available for Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool, with the first-leg taking place next week. He will also miss El Clasico against Barcelona at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on April 10.

Ramos began: ‘The truth is that I have been a pretty tough few weeks. An intervention is always a sporting and emotional break.

‘Luckily, for a few days now I have been feeling better, but in football as in life, bad luck also plays a role.

‘Yesterday, after the game, I was training on the pitch and I noticed a puncture in my left calf. Today I have been tested and it has been confirmed that I have a muscle injury.

‘If there is something that hurts me, it is not being able to help the team in these highly demanding matches in which we play the season and also not being able to return the love and energy that you transmit to me on the pitch.

‘I can’t do anything but speak frankly, work hard and cheer on the team with my soul.’

Sergio Ramos

Ramos’ injury means a reunion from the 2018 incident with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah won’t happen.

Sergio Ramos

The defender was famously involved in Mohamed Salah’s injury in the 2018 Champions League final against Liverpool, which saw the Egyptian star leave the pitch in tears with a shoulder injury

NDLEA nabs illicit drugs worth over N2bn at Lagos airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted illicit drugs worth over N2billion at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos and three suspected traffickers were arrested.

Bright Aniede

A statement released by the spokesperson of the agency, Femi Babafemi, states that one of the suspects, Aniede Chimezie Bright was arrested on Sunday 28th March 2021, during the outward clearance of passengers on Air Marroc, with 7.1 Kg of Methamphetamine carefully concealed in food spices and packed in a Swiss polo suitcase. The illicit substance was bound for Spain with a street value of over N2 billion.

According to the Commander, MMIA Command of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Garba,

“Unarguably, the closure of borders occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic is responsible for the surge in the price of these drugs. For instance, the price of meth in Australia had increased from 200 dollars to 600 dollars per gramme due supply cut, hence the desperation by the traffickers and barons alike.”

In a related development, the Command equally intercepted one Bamidele Babatunde Adeyemo at SAHCO export shed of the airport with 800grammes of cannabis sativa while operatives also seized 19.950kg of green leaves suspected to be khat. The cannabis cleverly concealed in foodstuff was bound for Dubai, UAE.

In a follow up operation, one Asonye Christian was arrested in connection to the seizure 800grammes of cannabis, while investigations are ongoing with a view to establishing more leads and getting the owner of the khat leaves arrested.

While commending the men and officers of the MMIA Command for the arrests and seizures, Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) said the Agency remains committed to its new maxim of offensive action against the activities of drug barons and traffickers wherever they are across Nigeria.

British contractor may have died in Mozambique ISIS terror attack – Family

The family of a British contractor, Philip Mawer, that’s been missing since ISIS militants attacked the town of Palma in northern Mozambique just over a week ago says they presume he has died.

Dozens of people were killed and hundreds are still unaccounted for following the days-long attack by the ISIS-affiliated group on a convoy that was leaving a hotel in Mozambique.

Mozambique ISIS

When the attack on Palma began on March 24, the insurgents came from three directions in a well-planned operation. Some of the assailants wore military uniforms, according to regional security sources, confusing the small number of troops based there.

The group deliberately targeted foreign workers, dozens of whom were trapped at the Amarula Hotel on the town’s northern outskirts.

Mozambique ISIS

Philip Mawer’s relatives now say they have been made aware that a body matching his description had been found but were awaiting confirmation.

“We understand that a formal process of identification is necessary before we can know for sure whether the body is Philip’s,” the family statement said.

“It appears that Philip died while trying to escape from the siege by ISIS-linked insurgents of the Amarula Hotel near Palma.”

Mawer’s family described him as an “ebullient, outgoing character who had something of the lovable rogue about him,” adding that “he had a wonderful sense of humour and could be relied on to find a humorous take on the most difficult of situations.”

“It was the nature of his chosen line of work to be in the more dangerous corners of the world and Philip’s career had previously taken him to Somalia, Sierra Leone, Algeria, Afghanistan, and Yemen,” his family said.

“His ability to get things done in the most hostile of environments made him a valued colleague.”

Due to the terror threat being faced in the country, a ferry carrying about 1,200 people evacuated from northern Mozambique and arrived Thursday, April 1 in the port of Pemba, capital of Cabo Delgado Province, according to aid agencies and local journalists.
