Covid-19 pandemic will be ‘far more deadly’ this year, WHO warns

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a strong warning that the second year of Covid-19 is set to be “far more deadly.”

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, (WHO) Director-General issued the warning on Friday, May 14.

He stated that “we’re on track for the second year of this pandemic to be far more deadly than the first.”

The DG added that trickle-down vaccination is not an effective strategy for fighting a deadly respiratory virus as COVID-19 has already cost more than 3.3 million lives.

“Vaccine supply remains a key challenge, but this week I’ve been pleased to see leaders & manufacturers working to: share doses with COVAX, make new deals involving tech-transfer and sharing of know-how and call for lifting trade barriers as soon as possible.” Tedros said.

According to the Director-General, in a handful of rich countries, lower-risk groups are now being vaccinated.

“I understand why some countries want to vaccinate their children and adolescents, but right now I urge them to reconsider and to instead donate vaccines to COVAX.

Because in low and lower-middle-income countries, vaccine supply has not been enough to even immunize health and care workers, and hospitals are being inundated with people that need lifesaving care urgently.” He added.

Tedros said that at present, only 0.3% of vaccine supply is going to low-income countries.

The pandemic has killed at least 3,346,813 people worldwide since the virus first emerged in late 2019.

Miyetti Allah requested that herdsmen to leave Southern Nigeria

he Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has asked all Fulani herdsmen to leave the Southern states following the recent ban placed on open grazing by the state governors.

In a letter signed by the Chairman of the Bauchi State chapter of MACBAN, Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, the body urged herders operating in the south to urgently leave the region as “the governors of the 17 states that make up the region are bent on frustrating their business as well as turn the people against herders.”?

The letter in part reads:

“This is a simple calculation. We are heading for secession. The rulers are no longer interested in the people. If some people are banned from open grazing, there is nothing more. Fulani people should move out from there. It is very simple.

Must we transport the cattle there? I have said it before. We have an option of breeding our cattle here (North). We are peace lovers. Let them come and buy from us. It is some people’s fault.

The Southern governors can do that. There is no problem, let them do what they want. If the Northern governors feel like, they can ban open grazing. We don’t care.

The President is there as a figurehead. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He is not controlling anybody. In our country now, everyone does what he feels like. The country is already moving apart. Where is the central government, if some governors can meet and take decisions that are against the Constitution

We also call on the President to step aside or for Nigerians to put heads together and elect a credible president in 2023, a leader with focus and competence. Nigeria should get a leader with a good example, who is ready to sacrifice his life for his subjects.”

Nigerian lady shares her heartbreaking story on how she was raped by her uncle, pastor and arm robbers (video)

A Nigerian lady has come out to share her heartbreaking story of surviving rape several times which she said started from her childhood.

Dorothy Edet while speaking with newsmen during the funeral of Iniobong Umoren, the jobseeker who was raped in Akwa Ibom, recounted how she has been raped by close relatives, strangers as well as people she went to sell her wares to when she was a child.

In her words

”My name is Dorothy Edet. I am actually a survivor of rape. I understand what it means. When people talk about rape, I also want to air out my voice.

At the age of seven, I was gang raped. Dressing has nothing to do with rape. What a woman wears cannot even push somebody to rape a woman. At the age of 10, I remember my Uncle telling my mum he is going to send me to school and that was how they came, took me home and they sexually abused me from 10 to 12 years old.

At the age of 15, I was raped when I went to sell banana for my mum. They finished eating the banana and the groundnut and they still raped me. AT the age of 20, I was gangraped again when I went to sell garri. They raped me, collected the money, collected the Garri.

At the age of 24, I was raped by my pastor who said he wanted to do deliverance for me and he did not do the deliverance. He raped me. Within five days, I was gangraped by a group of thieves who nearly destroyed my body.  What did people say, don’t say anything.

They keep telling victims not to say anything. Do you know the psychological trauma that they pass through. This thing is painful. You don’t know what we face.”

Dorothy said she would have been a victim of the guy who raped and killed Iniobong as she got same message but didn’t have money for transportation to attend the fake interview.

”I could have been a victim of this killing because this same guy also asked me to come for an interview. I have been searching for a job to survive because what I am having cannot take care of me and my family. I needed something better but I thank God I couldn’t attend the interview because I didn’t have transportation. That means this guy could have also killed me. No one knows what is going on” she said

Speaking further, Dorothy said

We need to fight rape.  We need to fight rapists. They don’t have a heart, They are one of the wicked individuals on earth. I wonder how they use to have an erection when they see that you are crying and begging for help. They don’t have mercy for anybody. This people should not be spared. If it is possible, they should be eliminated. Just kill them by hanging. Giving them life imprisonment, they can be removed from the prison and they would come back to the world to cause more pain and harm to the young people. They need to be destroyed.”

Dorothy says she now has friends who are now lesbians and homosexuals because they were sexually assaulted.

A Nigerian woman whose lower body was detached from the upper body shares her testimony

A Nigerian woman, Mmanti Umoh, has marked 15 years since she survived a ghastly motor accident in Kano state.

Taking to Facebook on Saturday, May 15, Ms Umoh narrated how she was in a vegetative state for a long time after the accident and waa waiting for her ‘final day.’

However, she survived and went on to execute some policy projects around Africa and excelled in various ways. Read her story:

lower body was detached from the upper body

In May 2006, 14 to be precise. I was involved in a ghastly motor accident on my way back from church. The driver and rider took off thinking me dead. It was worshippers from ECWA English, Airport Road, Kano that recognized me and raised alarm.

My lower body was detached from the upper body. I was bleeding from all openings. It was terrible. I was taken to the International Clinic Kano where my mom a medical professional worked too. All efforts to stop the bleeding proved abortive.

The MD who had worked on 21 cases like mine prior, and seeing mine was looking worse helped my mom to give me the best care as they thoughtfully counted down to when the oxygen mask would be taken off and I would sleep.

I didn’t sleep or slip, I stayed in that mode for a year. Bleeding stopped but all I was in complete vegetative state. The doctors said recovery from a vegetative state is unlikely after 1 month if the cause was anything other than a head injury. I didn’t realize I was that way as I could hear and see everything that was going on but couldn’t process any information.

The best neurosurgeons in Kano were brought in, name a doctor that was needed and he was summoned because of Mercy Umoh (they loved her and she is really good with her profession) – they all agreed it was better I slipped through the sleep because, if I didn’t… life would be really hard and I wouldn’t be able to use my "My lower body was detached from the upper body" - Nigerian woman marks 15 years since she survived ghastly motor accident . Oh my parents and their faith in God.

Weeks into my stay in hospital- my friends Late Ada Ononogbu and Uzoma Tony Cheta found out and took turns to take care of me everyone waiting for the final day. Oh, my friend Uzoma was distraught he just kept saying ‘Mmanti you better not go anywhere’.

I didn’t go anywhere then, still here now. Somedays, ‘situation tells me to believe I should believe all hope is gone and from the looks of things I should be crying, but because I know who I trust my heart tells me to rejoice, my hope in God keeps telling me to hold on’.

It’s 15 years yesterday, my parents just woke me this morning with a thanksgiving song.

I made it. I have executed the toughest policy projects round Africa, worked the longest hours and excelled in ways Abba shows it can only be with Him. If you work on my team – you know it’s work. My mind is clear, my head functioning. Did I say that my spine healed and my hips stayed in place without support? I am the one God showed love.

God showed me mercy.

President Buhari disowns ‘in-law’ wanted by ICPC for $65m fraud

President Buhari has said the  Gimba Yau Kumo, declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) over an alleged $65 million fraud is no longer his son-in-law.

LIB on Friday reported that the ICPC had begun a manhunt for Kumo over alleged fraud while he was the Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN). Read here.

A statement released last night by the President’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the latest move by the ICPC to declare Kumo wanted, notwithstanding his connections, has shown the seriousness of the Buhari administration to fight corrupt practices in the country.

The statement in part reads

“A running story to the effect that the ICPC has declared ‘an in-law of the President’ wanted in connection with fraud involving the large sum of money, USD65 million to be exact.

This should normally be an affirmation that our anti-corruption agencies/institutions are truly independent and allowed unfettered freedom by the President; which is in fact the case. That a state institution can issue such is a measure of the administration’s commitment to accountability, equality and justice.

To set the records straight, the person declared wanted by the ICPC is not an in-law to President Buhari. While at some point in time, the said fugitive from justice had been linked to a family member in marriage; that relationship has ended some years ago.

It is therefore unfortunate to bring the Presidents family into this case. It is in our view an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting.

The President’s position at all times is that the law be allowed to take its course. As is well known of him, President Muhammadu Buhari will not provide any cover for crime, no matter who is involved.”

Kumo, a former Managing Director, FMBN, got married to Buhari’s daughter in October 2016 in Daura, Katsina State. According to the commission, Kumo is wanted alongside Tarry Rufus and Bola Ogunsola over alleged misappropriation and dispersion of national housing fund.

A six-foot bronze crucifix worth £20,000 has been stolen from a church garden in the UK

A six-foot bronze crucifix worth £20,000 has been stolen from a church garden of remembrance in Newcastle.

According to Daily Mail, thieves took the sculpture from a garden where mourners scattered the ashes of their loved ones outside All Saints Church in Gosforth, Newcastle.

The crucifix, which was erected in the church’s remembrance garden in 1965, was stolen overnight on Thursday, May 13, the report said.

six-foot bronze crucifix worth £20,000

Confirming the incident, Neighbourhood Inspector Harninder Bola, of Northumbria Police said: ‘This is a highly sentimental piece of the remembrance garden at All Saints and the church and its congregation are understandably devastated.

‘The crucifix watched over an area where the ashes of the community’s loved ones have been scattered and these thieves have disturbed that area during their raid.

‘Reputable scrap dealers will not accept this cross and we would ask the thieves to do the right thing and return it to the church and its congregation.’

He said the ‘pain and anguish you have caused should not be underestimated’, adding ‘there is no value in keeping the crucifix’.

The Reverend Canon Andrew Shipton, of All Saints Church, said the theft had caused ‘considerable sadness’ among his congregation and the wider community.

He said: ‘The crucifix was situated in a consecrated area where many ashes are buried. It was a great shock to find that the bronze statue of our Lord had gone and a cause of considerable sadness.’

Update: ‘Boy killed by lightning’s family donate organs to save other kids

The grieving family of a 9-year-old boy killed by a lightning strike has donated his organs to save the lives of three other children.

The victim, Jordan Banks was taking part in a one-on-one session on a playing field in Blackpool, England on Tuesday, May 11, when he was struck dead by lightning.

The heartbroken dad of Jordan Banks said he hopes to continue his son’s legacy of ‘kindness’ while disclosing how Jordan’s organs may help save the lives of three children.

Boy killed by lightning

He wrote in a post: ‘He had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone, and when parents say they have the best kid ever, he [genuinely] was the best ever and if I ever could have asked for a perfect child that was my Jordan.

‘I couldn’t have been prouder of him always putting other people himself, such a selfless little person.

‘Even now his kindness has meant that three other children may be able to live, as he always told us he wanted to be able to help other people if he could. So was a donor and has donated which we know will be what he wanted.’

Dad Matt also told parents to treat every day with their children as ‘precious’.

Boy killed by lightning

He continued: ‘Literally words can’t even explain how heartbroken I am.

‘Not only have I lost my little boy I have lost my little best mate. We would sit and talk for hours about his future and he would always ask me what I wanted his children to call me, and we both decided on papi.

‘I never took anything for granted and I always made sure we had quality family time and did whatever I could to show him how much he was loved and how special and beautiful he was.’

He added he hopes no one else ever has to go through the pain he is suffering. ‘What I ask of anyone with children cherish every moment, even moments that seem too insignificant right now.

‘Picking them up from school, putting them to bed at night, making them a drink have tea time together… as you never know when moments like that will be taken away from you.

‘It only feels like yesterday I was making Jordan a brew, putting him to bed, getting kisses, squeezing him and playing with him.

‘Don’t take any time for granted as you may end up wishing you had more like me! So please, please, if you are busy and they might want to play a game or watch something with you just find time because it’s priceless.’

It comes after it was revealed Jordan had raised £3,000 for mental health causes earlier this year by running 30 miles.

Jordan Banks, who was a Liverpool FC fan was even praised by star James Milner for his fundraising efforts.

The footballer last night dedicated Liverpool’s 4-2 win against Manchester United to Jordan, writing on Twitter: ‘A big win for Jordan.’

The team’s players all wore tops with the number ‘7’ on and Jordan’s name in their warm-up session before the match.

‘The reason why we banned open grazing in Southern Nigeria’ – Akeredolu

The governors of the seventeen Southern states on Tuesday, May 11, met in Delta state where they banned open grazing and called on President Buhari to address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity.

Chairman of the Southern Governor’s Forum and Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, read the communique from the meeting.

In an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, May 12, Governor Akeredolu explained why the Southern Governors Forum placed a ban on open grazing of cows in states across the region.

In his words

“It is not an entirely new issue. Most of the governors have placed a ban on open grazing in their states before the meeting. We looked at what is happening in our respective states. Most of the states have passed laws on open grazing. Virtually all of us have passed that law. We felt that this open grazing must stop. It is causing a lot of problems particularly between the herders and the farmers.

Whether we like it or not, times have changed and this must change. We must adopt a modern system of animal husbandry.

In this day and age, they cannot continue taking cows by foot from Kano to Port Harcourt,” he said.

Governor Akeredolu said the Federal Government needs to throw its weight behind state governments that want to set up ranches. According to him, this would benefit herders who are exposed to dangers as they roam with their cattle.

“At the meeting, we referred to what Governor Ganduje said. It was clear that he is also against open grazing. He says it does not augur well and the herders also do not benefit from it. There is no development, they are exposed to dangers.

That why we suggested that the Federal Government should intervene to help these herders. The Federal government should give money for ranches to be created. That is why it is part of our recommendation that states who want to create ranches be supported.” he said

Kelechi Iheanacho recounts on his early struggles at Leicester City

Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Kelechi Iheanacho has opened up on his early struggles when he  joined Leicester City.

Manchester City sold Iheanacho to the Foxes on a five-year contract worth £25 million, but he performed miserably when he joined which led to some critics questioning manager, Brendan Rodgers’ decision to not offload him.

His below par performances not only cost him a place in the Leicester squad but he was also axed from Gernot Rohr’s Nigeria team to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad staged in Egypt.

He is now in a rich vein of form and has scored 18 goals in 36 appearances to overtake Jamie Vardy as the club’s top scorer this season and says he is focused on just working hard.

Reflecting on his struggles to BBC Sport Africa, Iheanacho said: “I think a lot of people wrote me off, but I never lost faith in myself.

“I was going through a crazy and difficult time when things just didn’t work out for me.

“But I’ve worked extremely hard, and also have the manager and other staff at Leicester, and most importantly my brother and friend Wilfred [Ndidi] who stood by me.

“It’s been a really tough ride, but I’m just delighted it’s all come together for me.”

He added: “It was truly a bad patch and we all know that some people are always too quick to judge,” he continued.

“To hear some people come out now and start saying positive things again is only normal but I don’t even bother.

“I only have to prove to myself that I can do this consistently, continue to grow, help my club and country when I get the chance to play.

“We have a lot ahead of us. It’s that time of the season where you want to fight for everything in front of you and not get carried away.”

Iheanacho is expected to lead the Foxes’ attacking line-up against Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Dad charged for murder for the death of his 5-week-old son

An Alabama man is facing capital murder charges in the death of his 5-week-old son, whose body was found shortly after the father made a public plea for the missing baby’s safe return.

Montgomery County Sheriff, Derrick Cunningham said the body of infant Caleb Whisnand Jr. was found on Wednesday night, May 13, in a rural area of neighboring Lowndes County. The baby’s father, 32-year-old Caleb Whisnand Sr., was then arrested on manslaughter charges, Derrick said on Thursday.

After an autopsy was conducted, investigators said they determined the charges should be upgraded to capital murder.

“This is a baby. You are talking about a 5-week-old baby,” Cunningham said.

Authorities did not disclose the cause of the infant’s death or how long he had been dead.

A warrant indicated the infant “was buried in a remote area” and investigators believe the infant was killed in Montgomery County.

The court record estimated the time of death between 3:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday, which would be several hours before a 911 call was made from a gas station reporting the baby missing.

The arrest of the father came after he and his 28-year-old Angela Nicole Gardner spoke to the media during a press conference and pleaded for help in finding their son.

Dad charged for murder for the death of his 5-week-old son

“It would mean everything to us. The family ain’t the same without family, that’s for sure,” Whisnand told reporters, WSFA reports. “It’s been taking a toll on everybody.”

“I don’t remember a lot. But I did remember I was breaking up with the cops. If anybody’s got anything, any place I could have gone,” he said.

The sheriff said after the news conference that investigators “were able to obtain some pretty good information that led us to the body.” His cause of death has not been released.

According to the sheriff’s office, the newborn was reported missing on Monday night from a gas station on Wetumpka Highway. During Wednesday’s press conference, Gardner told reporters C.J. disappeared while his father was paying for gas.

Whisnand is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Center.

Kevin Guthrie goes to jail for 3 years for sexually assaulting a colleague

Scottish actor, Kevin Guthrie, who played Abernathy in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a vulnerable actress when she was unwell after a night out.

The Glaswegian actor, 33, was found guilty last month of sexually assaulting the unidentified actress in September 2017, in what the judge branded a ‘heinous crime’.

Kevin took advantage of a 29-year-old woman inside the flat of fellow actor Scott Reid in Glasgow between September 30 and October 1, 2017.

The actor, who also appeared in Sunshine on Leith, insisted he had only ‘helped’ the woman after she began to feel unwell but his DNA was found inside her underwear.

Guthrie, who denied the charge, was found guilty of sexual assault at Glasgow Sheriff Court and jailed for three years.

He will also appear on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.

Sentencing, Sheriff Tom Hughes said: ‘You had an educational background and worked extremely hard to get a part in acting in acclaimed films.

‘The court must show that women can be protected from domestic sexual offences and those who do should suffer serious consequences.

‘The offence you have been convicted caused distress and consequences to the young woman involved in this case. You committed this crime in a position of trust.

‘She was unwell and thought her drink had been spiked elsewhere that night.

‘The other man was urgently getting medical assistance and you were left in the room with her when she was not able to look after herself.

‘The jury accepted that you committed these heinous crimes and the only appropriate sentence is imprisonment.’

The court heard how the woman was due to meet Guthrie and Reid at a bar in Glasgow on the night of the alleged attack. But Reid later received a phone call from a taxi driver asking him to collect her because she felt unwell.

He and Guthrie then helped the woman into his flat and put her on a bed.

The woman claims the bedsheets were ‘moved down my body’ after Reid left the room.

She told the court: ‘I remember my top being lifted up and my bra being held down.’

The woman alleged she was groped by Guthrie before he performed a sex act on her.

She added: ‘There would be times when Scott would come back in the room and he would pull the covers back on top of me and pull my top down.’

Guthrie then carried out a further two sexual acts on her and kissed her, the court heard. He would stop when Reid would come into the room.

Prosecutor Harry Findlay asked why she did not say anything to Reid.

She replied: ‘I couldn’t… I found it difficult to communicate in any way.
‘I think I was frozen as well.’

Guthrie refuted the accusations agreeing with his QC Gordon Jackson that it had instead been a ‘panic situation’ due to the woman’s condition.

However, his DNA was found on the inside of the woman’s underpants.
Mr. Findlay asked Guthrie to explain why this was.

He said: ‘I can’t for the life of me explain in any rational sense how that happened.’

Gordon Jackson QC, defending, told the sentencing that Guthrie maintains his innocence.

The lawyer added: ‘If ever there was a case where something appears out of character it is this.

‘This was a man who knows success, things can go to your head but he has been a decent composed individual.

‘The price he will pay will be with his own career is immense. He wasn’t a jobbing actor, he was doing well.

‘No disrespect but no matter what you do to him, this will have an effect on his future and career.’

‘Iconic Facce’ is jailed for 15 years for bank robbery of $4,800 to pay for cosmetic surgery bills

A transgender woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbing a Mississippi bank to pay for her plastic surgery in Mexico.

The woman, who calls herself Iconic Facce, robbed BancorpSouth in Gulfport on February 22, 2019, after approaching a teller before telling her you have ‘one minute’ to hand over cash ‘or die’.

According to reports, she made away with $4,800 and used the money to fly to Mexico where she used it to fluff up her cheeks, perfect her pout and thin out her nose.

When she returned to the U.S. on March 30, she tried to quietly get through Houston Airport without being noticed but her swollen, puffy cheeks and bandaged nose gave her away to the officers, who were waiting at the airport to arrest her.

Iconic Facce

Authorities tracked her by tracing the cellphone she used on the day of the robbery which they then followed to the airport, to Mexico, and back again.

This week, after a two-year legal saga, she admitted robbery and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Back in 2019, Mississippi police released surveillance footage of the transgender woman entering the bank, wearing sunglasses, a wig, a striped shirt, and pants, before approaching the teller.

Iconic Facce

Facce – formerly known as Jimmy Lewis then handed the female teller a note which read: ‘you have 1 minute to give the money do not be wrong are die’.

From June 2007 to January 2008, Lewis was said to have robbed banks in Alabama by passing threatening notes in Cleveland, Decatur, and Lenoir City in Tennessee.

Iconic Facce

She was arrested in 2008 in Los Angeles on arrival with a flight from Mexico when one of her was spotted by border agents.

According to police reports, Lewis threatened the life of a teller, saying in a note: ‘No games, no jokes and get your hands up. Don’t mash any alarms.

‘Don’t move or she’s had it.’

Lewis was sentenced to 51 months behind bars and probation for the robbery.

French Jockey Icon, Pierre-Charles Boudot, charged with Rape case

France’s reigning champion jockey, Pierre-Charles Boudot has been charged with rape and intimidating a witness by French prosecutors.

The charges relate to an incident at a party at Cagnes-sur-Mer in the south of France, on February 17.

The three-time French champion jockey who won the 2019 Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe on Waldgeist, faces a charge of failing to report a crime in connection with the same allegations, while an unnamed individual was also listed, along with Bazire, as a “witness to intimidation of a witness”.

Pierre-Charles Boudot

“On February 19 a young female work-rider reported to police in Cagnes-sur-Mer evidence that suggested she had been raped during the night of February 17 and 18 by a jockey whose identity was subsequently revealed by the press to be Pierre-Charles Boudot,” prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier said about the alleged incident.

“The case was passed by the court in Grasse to that of Senlis on account of the usual residence of both accused and plaintive, and an inquiry into the rape allegation was launched by the gendarmerie in Chantilly.

“At the end of a very long series of interviews the investigating officers took Pierre-Charles Boudot and another jockey – identified in the press as Pierre Bazire – into custody on May 10.

“Today, May 12, the criminal court in Senlis opened a hearing. The magistrate instructor has made the following decisions: Pierre-Charles Boudot is indicted for rape and is also named as a witness to intimidation of a witness; Pierre Bazire is indicted for not reporting a crime and is named as a witness to intimidation of a witness.

“The judge has placed Pierre Bazire and Pierre-Charles Boudot under judicial control. At the request of the court Pierre-Charles Boudot may not appear in the Oise department and must give a deposit of €50,000 to the court.”

Pierre-Charles’ 12 Group One wins around the world last year included Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on The Revenant as well as two wins at the Breeders’ Cup on O’Brien’s Order Of Australia (Mile) and James Fanshawe-trained Audarya (Filly & Mare Turf).

U.S: Preparing for life with nose-masks

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States has announced that fully vaccinated Americans can return to life without masks in a major step toward returning to pre-life.

CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky made the announcement at a White House briefing Thursday, May 13.

“If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic,” Walensky said, announcing the sweeping change. “Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing.”

“We have all longed for this moment when we can get back to some sense of normalcy,” Walensky said.

The announcement comes after Walensky faced criticism for the CDC being too slow to provide a pathway back to normalcy for fully vaccinated people, over 117 million of whom are in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the requirement to wear masks during travel on buses, trains, planes, and public transportation still stands, Walensky said, and the guidance for travel will be updated as science emerges. Even vaccinated individuals must cover their faces and physically distance when going to doctors, hospitals, or long-term care facilities like nursing homes.

In announcing the decision Thursday May 14, the CDC pointed to additional data from the last few weeks that show the vaccines work in the real world, stand up to the variants and make it unlikely vaccinated people can transmit the virus.

“In the last two weeks, the cases in this country have dropped by a third. In the last two weeks, we have had increasing available vaccine, and we now have available and eligible people between the ages of 12 and 15,” Walensky said.

She also pointed to a “coalescence of more science that has emerged just in the last week” in three areas.

“One is the effectiveness of the vaccines in general in real world populations. One is the effectiveness against variants, which was just published last week. And then the effectiveness in preventing transmissibility,” Walensky said.

President Joe Biden also welcomed the new guidance during a Rose Garden address.

“Today is a great day for America,” Biden said. “If you are fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask,” he said, summarizing the new guidance and encouraging more Americans to roll up their sleeves. “Get vaccinated – or wear a mask until you do.”

Sadio Mane refuses Jurgen Klopp’s handshake after Liverpool’s 4- 2 win against Manchester United (Video)

A furious Sadio Mane snubbed a handshake from his manager Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Manchester United on Thursday night, May 13.

The Senegalese striker was a second-half substitute as the Reds picked up a huge win to move to 5th position in the league as they aim to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Mane replaced Diogo Jota in the 74th minute but refused to shake Klopp’s hand at the final whistle as he marched towards the tunnel shaking his head.

During the post-match interview, the Liverpool boss played down the incident and admitted that he failed to explain his selection to the Senegal striker.

He told Sky Sports: “No, no problem. Yesterday I made a late decision in training to decide for Diogo. The boys are used to me explaining things usually but there was actually no time for that and that’s all. It’s all fine.”

Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool manager, Graeme Souness said Mane’s snub of his manager showed both a disrespect to Klopp and to the club as a whole.

He said: “It’s disrespectful. It’s never happened to me but if I were the manager, I would not be happy. I think he should have shaken his hand, he didn’t want to cuddle, but you should show a bit of respect. It’s most importantly disrespectful to the football club.

“Yeah, he’s not happy at being left out, but can he really argue? He’s not had a great season, how can he argue with the fact he’s been a sub and Liverpool have won 4-2 at Old Trafford which is not a happy hunting ground for them.”

Norberto, who works in the city of Pergamino, Argentina, told local media that he had already been hospitalised once with the disease, but been discharged.

However, he soon returned with a high fever that saw him hospitalised again, this time for over a month.

image 8

Norberto says that along with other Covid-19 patients he received plasma therapy, but he saw two fellow-patients die in the first two days he was there.

He said: “One person dies on Friday, another dies on Saturday, there is no three without two. Now it’s my turn, I presume.”

The 64-year-old mechanic became critically ill after being diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia when doctors decided to put him in an induced coma and intubate him.

Norberto said at one point, doctors told his family he had “unfortunately worsened and the only thing left to do was pray”.

However, the Argentine mechanic was eventually moved to a Covid-19 ward to continue his recovery.

While lying alone, he said he began talking to himself and started counting his heartbeats which he noticed kept slowing down until “it went ‘tick’ and nothing more”.

He told local sources he was dead for “several minutes” before doctors finally managed to “miraculously” bring him back to life.

After his near-death experience, Norberto was discharged from the hospital days later and received home care for two months before eventually overcoming the virus, but he added that he has not fully recovered yet.

Over 120 retired military generals write open letter questioning Joe Biden’s mental health

A group of more than 120 retired military officers have written President Joe Biden a letter to tell him his election was illegitimate while raising questions about his mental acuity.

The letter talks about former US President Donald Trump’s claims of widespread election fraud and comes a day after Rep. Liz Cheney was voted out of the Republican party leadership for criticisms of Trump for still peddling claims of electoral fraud.

The letter from the group which calls itself ‘Flag Officers 4 America’ and consists of retired military officers including generals and admirals reads:

‘Without fair and honest elections that accurately reflect the ‘will of the people’ our Constitutional Republic is lost,’

‘The FBI and Supreme Court must act swiftly when election irregularities are surfaced and not ignore them as was done in 2020,’ they wrote.

The letter, called an ‘Open Letter from Retired Generals and Admirals,’ was first reported by Politico.

The letter buttresses Trump’s claims that absentee ballots are not secure.

‘Election integrity demands insuring there is one legal vote cast and counted per citizen. Legal votes are identified by State Legislature’s approved controls using government IDs, verified signatures, etc,’ they write.

‘Today, many are calling such commonsense [voter ID] controls “racist” in an attempt to avoid having fair and honest elections. Using racial terms to suppress proof of eligibility is itself a tyrannical intimidation tactic,’ they write.

The retired officers raise doubts about Biden’s mental capacity – and reference Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s move to get assurances about the nuclear codes in the days after the January 6 MAGA riot.

‘The mental and physical condition of the Commander in Chief cannot be ignored. He must be able to quickly make accurate national security decisions involving life and limb anywhere, day or night,’ they write.

‘Recent Democrat leadership’s inquiries about nuclear code procedures sends a dangerous national security signal to nuclear armed adversaries, raising the question about who is in charge. We must always have an unquestionable chain of command.’

The group pledged to support and defend the Constitution of the US against all enemies, foreign and domestic.’

The signatories of the letter attached their names to the letter. Among them was Maj. Gen. Joe Arbuckle, who served in Vietnam and later commanded the US Army Industrial Operations Command (IOC) at Rock Island, Illinois.

Other signers of the anti-Biden letter included include Vice Adm. John Poindexter, who was convicted in the Iran-Contra Affair.

Also signing on was Army Brig. Gen. Don Bolduc, who lost the Republican primary in 2020 to challenge Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, and is planning another Senate run.

Arbuckle, who organized the effort, told Politico: ‘Retired generals and admirals normally do not engage in political actions, but the situation facing our nation today is dire.’

He continued: ‘We are facing threats greater than at any other time since our country was founded. To remain silent would be a dereliction of duty.’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates not happy with preferential treatment he gets

Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates at Juventus are reportedly angry with him and he has been ‘isolated’ in the Juventus dressing-room with team-mates believing the Portuguese star has too much freedom.

Ronaldo scored his 100th goal for the Old Lady in a 3-1 win at Sassuolo on Wednesday which keeps Andrea Pirlo’s side in the hunt for a top-four spot, though they still need Napoli to drop points in one of their final two games.

Yet on Monday, following the humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to AC Milan on Sunday, while his team-mates were went to train, Ronaldo was allowed a day off to collect his new £1.4million Ferrari Monza from the manufacturer’s base in Maranello.

The development caused unhappiness within the playing camp, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The report adds that the 36-year-old striker was accompanied by Juve president Andrea Agnelli and Exor Chairman and CEO John Elkann.

And now Ronaldo’s team-mates are said to be displeased with the favourable treatment the five-time Ballon d’Or winner continues to receive.

His teammates do not recognise Ronaldo as a leader with his attitude on the pitch, the report states, with his gesticulations every time the ball does not reach him seen as unhelpful.

Ronaldo’s future at the club is currently up in the air with Juve far from guaranteed Champions League football next season.

Back in November, Juve boss Andrea Pirlo dismissed the accusation that Ronaldo receives ‘special treatment’ in contrast to the rest of the squad.

‘I treat him like I treat all the other players,’ Pirlo said.

‘I’m always available on and off the pitch. It’s easy to have a good relationship between humble people. I’m like that.

‘I behave with him – a champion – like I do with [Gianluca] Frabotta or [Manolo] Portanova, who are two young players.

‘I do the same things I was used to doing when I was a player.’

Ronaldo has been linked with moves back to either of his old clubs – Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and Real Madrid – as well as a big-money switch to PSG

Prince Harry recounts where he first met his wife, Meghan Markle

harry n meghan makes startling revealations

Prince Harry has said he first met Meghan Markle in a supermarket and they pretended they didn’t know who each other were.

He said they acted like they were grabbing some essentials at the shops as they got together for the first time.

The royal couple did their best to stay “incognito” to avoid attracting attention.

Harry says he wore a cap and was looking at the floor as they finally met up.

The Duke of Sussex made this revelation while speaking during Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

He said: “The first time Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket in London, pretending we didn’t know each other, texting each other from the other side of the aisles.

“There’s people looking at me, giving me all these weird looks, and coming up to me and saying ‘hi’.

“I texted her saying “is this the right one”, and she said “no you want parchment paper”, and “I’m like where’s the parchment paper?!”

“I had baseball cap on, looking down at the floor, trying to stay incognito. It’s amazing how much chewing gum you see, it’s a mess!”

He went on to say what he really loves about living a quiet life in America.

Harry says that life had felt “more free” since his move to LA.

He continued on the podcast: “Living here now I can actually lift my head and actually I feel different, my shoulders have dropped, so has hers, you can walk around feeling a little bit more free.

“I can take Archie on the back of my bicycle. I never had the chance to do that.”

Over 100 Republicans threaten to leave the party over party’s allegiance to Trump

More than 100 Republicans will reportedly sign a letter Thursday May 11, threatening to create a third party if the GOP doesn’t “break” with former President Trump.

According to a report by Reuters, Trump’s grip on the GOP has gotten stronger since the Jan. 6 Capitol riot as the party on Wednesday May 12 votes to remove Liz Cheney as House Conference chair for criticizing Donald Trump for continuing to make claims that he was cheated in the 2020 election.

She is also being ousted from her position by the Republican party because of her vote to impeach Trump for a charge of inciting an insurrection at the Capitol.

Top Trump Ally and senator Lindsey Graham on Tuesday said that anyone can criticize Trump, but you just can’t do it and expect to be a leader at the party, signalling Trump’s grip on the GOP.

According to the New York Times, the letter’s preamble will state, “When in our democratic republic, forces of conspiracy, division, and despotism arise, it is the patriotic duty of citizens to act collectively in defense of liberty and justice.”

The letter’s signatories include former “governors, members of Congress, ambassadors, cabinet secretaries, state legislators and Republican Party chairmen,” according to the Times, citing co-organizer Miles Taylor.

“This is us saying that … the situation has gotten so dire with the Republican Party that it is now time to seriously consider whether an alternative might be the only option, said Taylor, who was the Trump-era Department of Homeland Security official who wrote an anonymous NYT op-ed on the administration.

Taylor also tweeted: “My philosophy on GOP extremists: if you won’t join ’em, beat ’em. Come fight with us.”

Meanwhile Jason Miller, Trump’s spokesperson has reacted to the report.

He tweeted: “These losers left the Republican Party when they voted for Joe Biden.”

On Tuesday Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) told CNN that he believes Trump is dividing the Republican Party.

Hutchinson is barred from seeking a third term as governor in 2022.

He is one of the few prominent Republicans to push against the growing consensus that Trump must play a dominant role in the party going forward.

Liz Cheney as recently as Tuesday claimed Trump is a threat “America has never seen before”

Speaking on the House floor Tuesday evening, she said the 2020 election was not stolen and  that former President Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud pose a threat that “America has never seen before.”

Twitter debate: Cesc Fabregas and Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand argued that scoring goals is harder than assisting

Footballers Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand and Cesc Fabregas have all gotten into a cheeky debate on Twitter.

It all started when Michael Owen posted a tweet, stating that it’s easier to be a midfielder creating assists and making passes than it is to be a goal scorer.

Michael Owen

He opined nowadays goalscorers get the same level of plaudits as assist makers and it shouldn’t be so.

Liverpool and Newcastle legend, Owen tweeted:

“People are genuinely giving as much credit to a players number of assists as they do to number of goals nowadays.”

“Literally 1 in 10 goals are genuine assists yet someone who plays a 5 yard ball to his mate who screams one in the top corner from 30 yards gets as much credit”

He then added: “My point is that in general it’s far harder to score goals than assist them yet we are starting to measure them as equal which is b******s.”

Michael Owen

After his tweet denigrating the importance of midfielders or players who create assists for strikers to score, Cesc Fabregas an Arsenal legend and one of the best assist makers during his time, disagreed.

Michael Owen

Fabregas, who is second on the all-time Premier League assists table with 111, responded: “I don’t completely agree there Michael. Making and creating can be sometimes twice as hard than making a run or scoring a goal.

‘Don’t underestimate the little time or space we have in midfield to take the best decision for you guys, plus the imagination and creativity we should have to find you.”

Twitter debate: Cesc Fabregas and Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand argued that scoring goals is harder than assisting

Rio Ferdinand, a Manchester United legend, known for his heroics as a defender during his time, then joined the conversation, making a case for how hard it is to be a defender.

Ferdinand wrote; Respectfully without us defending and protecting your goal, you guys don’t have the platform to perform all your frilly attacking stuff! We do the hardest part- respectfully .

Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona face UEFA open disciplinary investigation

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus for their involvement with the European Super League project.

The three clubs are the only teams of the original 12 Super League clubs who signed up for the breakaway competition not to have formally renounced the competition and renewed their commitments to UEFA.

The trio could be expelled from the Champions League for two years as a consequence.

UEFA released a statement on Wednesday which read: ‘In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, UEFA Ethics, and Disciplinary Inspectors have today been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework by Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona and Juventus FC in connection with the so-called ‘Super League’ project.

‘Further information regarding this matter will be made available in due course.’

The two-year ban from Europe’s leading club competition is the harshest sanction at UEFA’s disposal.

The prospect of disciplinary action appeared inevitable last Friday when a statement confirming the peace accord with nine of the clubs ended: “UEFA has reserved all rights to take whatever action it deems appropriate against those clubs that have so far refused to renounce the so-called ‘Super League’.

“The matter will promptly be referred to the competent UEFA disciplinary bodies.”

The nine other clubs including the Premier League’s ‘big six’ ( Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur) committed themselves to UEFA competitions over threat of heavy fines and expulsion if there was any renewed attempt by any one of them to break away.

However, Real, Barca, and Juve issued a joint statement on Saturday standing by the Super League project, stating it was lawful and that it would be “highly irresponsible” of them not to continue to look at ways to answer what they see as the “existential questions which threaten football”.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was announced as the chairman of the Super League in the statement confirming its foundation.

His Juventus counterpart, Andrea Agnelli, resigned from his position on UEFA’s executive committee and his chairmanship of the European Club Association in order to sign up to the project.

He became a vice-chairman of the league, which collapsed within 72 hours when the English clubs withdrew amid fan protests, Government pressure, and managerial staff.

Manchester United’s co-chairman, Joel Glazer was also a vice-chairman of the ESL.

His family have committed to paying United’s share of a 15million euros ‘goodwill contribution’ as part of the club’s reintegration to the UEFA fold, and to covering the five percent of competition revenue which will be withheld from the nine clubs next season.

80 houses and over $153m were recovered from Diezani – EFCC Chairman says

Diezani Alison-Madueke

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa has said that they recovered $153 million and 80 houses from former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Bawa made the claim in the April edition of the EFCC magazine, EFCC Alert. Noting that the properties were valued at $80m, the anti-graft agency chairman also pointed out that bringing the former minister to justice was still far from reality, given the fact that she was out of Nigeria’s jurisdiction.

He said;

“There are several cases surrounding Diezani’s case. I was part of that investigation, and we have done quite a lot. In one of the cases, we recovered $153 million; we have secured the final forfeiture of over 80 properties in Nigeria valued at about $80 million. We have done quite a bit on that.

“The other cases as it relates to the $115 million INEC bribery is also ongoing across the federation. We are looking forward to the time we will, maybe, have her in the country, and, of course, review things and see what will happen going forward. The case has certainly not been abandoned.’’

On EFCC not being allowed to function independently with the interference of powerful people in government, Bawa reiterated that he would quit if asked to do anything illegal.

He said;

“I am not going to pay allegiance to individuals in the government.”

Bawa also stated that he has paid the price to attain his current position despite being a young man.

He added;

“I rose through the ranks. The only job I know after graduation is the EFCC, which I joined in 2004. I rose through the ranks from an ordinary team member, to the first EFCC team leader from the regular staff of the EFCC.”

Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City moved to Portugal from Turkey

The Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City will now be played in Portugal after the UK government and UEFA could not reach an agreement over quarantine exemptions for more than 2,000 VIPs, staff, and media for the match to be played at Wembley.

The all-English final between the Premier League clubs was originally scheduled for the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul on May 29, but the devastating Covid outbreak in Turkey forced UEFA to look at alternative venues.

The Wembley stadium in England was considered as one of the possible venues, but the UK government has placed the country on its red list for travel, and banned English fans from going.

According to Sports Mail, the 50,000-capacity Estadio do Dragao in Porto has now been lined up as the venue for the final after UEFA struck a deal with the Portuguese authorities over the attendance at the match.

Chelsea and Manchester City will each receive a ticket allocation of between 4,500 and 6,000, with the announcement to be officially ratified by UEFA on Thursday, the report said.

Before now, health experts and MPs slammed the decision for putting supporters at unnecessary risk in the middle of a pandemic, insisting UEFA should have foregone VIPs this year and made it a ‘fans’ final’ in London instead.
