A 22-year-old college student was fatally shot by a police officer in Upper Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, 2026, after reportedly going to the wrong house.
According to his mother, the young man had spent the evening celebrating a friend’s birthday with a group of friends before deciding to walk to a friend’s home. She believes he may have become disoriented in the dark and mistakenly ended up at the wrong address.
The student, who was reportedly unarmed, allegedly knocked on the front door but received no response. He then went around to the back of the property and called out to his friends, who were on their way to pick him up.
His mother said her son was on the phone with his friends shortly before the shooting. Minutes later, police were reportedly called to the property following a report of a possible break-in.
When officers arrived, they found the student at the rear of the home. An encounter followed, during which one of the officers opened fire, striking him fatally.
His family was later informed that he had been shot twice by an Upper Pottsgrove police officer.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said an investigation has been launched, as required in police-involved shootings. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from cameras installed around the property to establish exactly what happened before the fatal shooting.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have yet to release a full account of the circumstances that led to the shooting.
