Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has revealed that Israel has rejected a U.S.-backed proposal aimed at ending the war in Gaza, even after receiving assurances that Israeli troops would only withdraw once Hamas is completely disarmed.
In a video posted on social media, Netanyahu said the proposal sent by Donald Trump‘s peace team was not acceptable to Israel. According to him, Israel has instead submitted its own comments and is still reviewing possible alternatives.
The plan had reportedly included a ceasefire, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the disarmament of Hamas. While Hamas announced last week that it was willing to accept the agreement, Israel says any withdrawal must come only after Hamas is fully disarmed.
Netanyahu is also facing growing pressure from his far-right coalition partners, who oppose the deal and want Israel to maintain or even expand its presence in Gaza. They have called on the Israeli government to formally reject the proposal.
The decision comes just weeks before Israel’s parliamentary elections, where Netanyahu is seeking another term. His move is widely seen as an effort to maintain political support at home, even as tensions with Trump over the Gaza conflict have reportedly increased.
