Authorities in India have opened a murder investigation against a woman accused of poisoning and strangling her three children to death before trying to take her own life by ingesting phenyl, officials reported on Wednesday, May 27.
The tragedy took place in Valsad, Gujarat, after the woman’s husband discovered her extramarital relationship.
She is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital.
As stated by Valsad’s deputy superintendent of police (DSP) JK Patel, the police were alerted to the incident of a woman killing her children, prompting an inquiry.
“We received information regarding a woman who has murdered her children. During our investigation, it was revealed that an argument ensued between the husband and wife after he learned of her affair,” DSP Patel commented.
The investigation uncovered that she allegedly gave her children phenyl to consume and later ingested the substance herself.
“She made her children ingest phenyl and did the same herself. We found her unconscious and took her to a hospital. The investigation is ongoing,” DSP Patel stated.
