Gatekeeper on the Run After Brutal Killing of Augustine Nwalieze in Lagos State

A 65-year-old transport manager, Augustine Nwalieze, was allegedly killed by his gateman at his residence in Ajah, Lagos State, under circumstances that remain unclear.

The incident reportedly occurred on the morning of April 26, 2026, shortly after the victim had prepared for church. He had gone downstairs to the parking area of his home, where vehicle spare parts and a solar panel were stored.

Concern grew among family members when he became unreachable and none of his vehicles had been moved. Suspicion soon turned to the gateman after he gave inconsistent explanations about the victim’s whereabouts, claiming he had left with a friend—an account later denied by the said individual.

The gateman reportedly fled shortly afterward, prompting a search of the premises. The victim’s body was later discovered in a downstairs flat with severe machete wounds.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. At the time of the incident, other members of the household were upstairs and unaware of what had occurred.

The case has been reported to the police, and officers have begun an investigation. According to the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, efforts are ongoing to locate the suspect, who remains at large.
