The dazzling lights of the Big Brother Naija house have once again shone on a new winner, and this time, it’s Opeyemi Ayanwale, affectionately known as Imisi. While the confetti may have settled and the cheers have faded, Imisi is already looking beyond the reality show spotlight, driven by a powerful desire to make a lasting impact. In a heartwarming revelation, the BBNaija Season 10 champion has announced her ambitious plans to establish a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to supporting the girl child.
This inspiring vision comes at a time of immense celebration for Imisi. Fresh off her victory, she recently received an additional N2 million cheque from BetKing in Lagos. This significant sum was awarded as part of a competition she won during her time in the BBNaija house, a testament to her performance and engagement. Describing the gesture as both “overwhelming and inspiring,” Imisi’s gratitude is palpable.
However, Imisi’s motivations run much deeper than newfound fame and fortune. Speaking candidly, she opened up about her own challenging and “dramatic” childhood experiences. These personal struggles have ignited a long-held desire within her to extend a helping hand to young girls who may be facing similar difficulties.
“As a lady, I know what it was growing up,” Imisi shared, her voice filled with emotion. “So, for me, I would like to do something for a girl child. I am not clear yet, but something like a foundation for the girl child, because that has always been my desire, and I think I really want to do that.” She further emphasized the surreal nature of her current success, stating, “Things are still looking like a dream to me now, but I really want to do that. While growing up as a girl child, it was a very dramatic time for me.”
Before gracing our screens on Big Brother Naija, Imisi had already embarked on a career in acting. She attributes the reality show platform to significantly elevating her public profile, acknowledging, “I am happy. I have been an actress for a while now, but Big Brother really gave me the exposure, and I am grateful. It means a whole lot to me.” This newfound visibility, coupled with her personal drive, is now poised to fuel her philanthropic endeavors.
The rewarding cheque presentation from BetKing also provided insight into the company’s strategic engagement with the BBNaija platform. Nengi Akinola, Head of Marketing at BetKing, explained that the cash prize was a way to not only reward housemates but also to showcase their exclusive games to a wider audience. Games like “Danfo Lagos,” “JJ Ball X” (a collaboration with Jay Jay Okocha), and “Film House” were highlighted as successful examples of their innovative offerings, with BBNaija serving as a powerful avenue for reaching entertainment enthusiasts. BetKing is currently evaluating the impact of their collaboration to inform future involvement, suggesting a potential for continued partnership.
As Imisi embarks on this noble journey, her story serves as a powerful reminder that reality television can be a springboard for positive change. Her commitment to supporting the girl child, born from personal experience and amplified by her BBNaija triumph, promises to create a ripple effect of hope and opportunity for countless young lives. The nation watches with anticipation, eager to witness the tangible impact of Imisi’s vision.
