Lagos, Nigeria – Chaos erupted on Sunday in the Alaba Rago area of Iba, Lagos State, leading to the tragic death of a yet-to-be-identified passenger. The fatality occurred amidst a violent scuffle between road transport workers, popularly known as agberos, and supporters of a local monarch.
The clash, which reportedly began in the early hours of Sunday, is believed to have stemmed from the recent launch of a new motor park. Multiple eyewitnesses, speaking to tori express, indicated that the park was allegedly constructed by the monarch and designated for vehicles travelling to Nigeria’s northern and eastern parts.
“The monarch built a park at the Alaba Market side of the road. It was unveiled on Saturday for vehicles going to the North and East,” a resident identified only as Shola confirmed to reporters.
The confrontation escalated rapidly, creating a scene of pandemonium. During the ensuing chaos, a speeding vehicle tragically crushed a passenger, who was yet to be identified at the time of reporting.
Further details regarding the exact nature of the dispute between the agberos and the monarch’s supporters, and the full extent of the injuries sustained, remain unclear as investigations are expected to commence.Edit
