Nigerians drag Ghanaian prophet who predicted that England would win the Euro 2020 final (Video)

A video of Ghanaian Pastor, Emmanuel Kobi Badu prophesying that England will win Euro 2020 has gone viral after they lost to Italy.

Kobi was heard saying that he is only doing the work of a Prophet which is to say what God is saying.

The Ghanaian cleric had previously prophesied that Donald Trump and John Mahama will win their reelection campaign, but it never came to pass

Before the game, though, Prophet Badu Kobi who claimed that his prediction was based on what God was said, went viral for prophesying that England will emerge as the Winner.

“England will beat Italy. I’ve said it again, that is the work of a prophet: You keep saying what God is saying. I said England [will win],” he said during a sermon.

“I’m saying it everywhere, YouTube and every social media platform, that England will win the cup,” he added.

The Italian national team however proved the prophet wrong by beating England 3-2 on penalties after the Euro 2020 final ended 1-1 following extra time at Wembley on Sunday to secure their second European Championship title.

The United States reaffirm its commitment to defend the Philippines’ armed forces from attack in the South China Sea

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to defend the Philippines’ armed forces from attack in the South China Sea.

According to the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, the US will come to Phillipines aid if attacks were launched against it, as it has a 70-year-old mutual defense treaty with the country.

Blinken made the comments on Sunday, July 11, in a statement marking the fifth anniversary of a ruling by an independent arbitration tribunal rejecting China’s expansive territorial claims over the waterway, in support of the Philippines.

The 2016 ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague dismissed China’s claims to the South China Sea outright, while making clear that China was infringing on Philippine sovereignty through activities such as island-building in Manila’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

China disavowed the tribunal and has since continued to build up and militarily reinforce its positions in the South China Sea.

US warns China it will defend Philippines if Filipino soldiers are attacked in South China Sea

It claims the US and other countries are increasing tensions in the region by sending their warships there in violation of its sovereignty.

Tensions in the South China Sea, have increased this year, with Philippines accusing China of trying to intimidate its coast guard vessels, as well as sending its so called “maritime militia” to crowd out Philippine fishing boats.

Now Blinken has warned that the US would invoke the US-Philippine mutual defense pact in the event of any Chinese military action against Philippine assets in the region.

“We also reaffirm that an armed attack on Philippine armed forces, public vessels, or aircraft in the South China Sea would invoke US mutual defense commitments under Article IV of the 1951 US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty,” Blinken said.

Blinken also called on the Chinese government to “abide by its obligations under international law (and) cease its provocative behavior” in the South China Sea.

As at today, Monday, July 12, the US guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold performed a freedom on navigation operation (FONOP) near the Paracel Islands in the northwestern part of the South China Sea the US Navy’s 7th Fleet said in a statement.

Albino snake bites a man ‘in genital area’ as he sat on toilet at home

A 65-year-old man was bitten by a reticulated python as he was sitting on the toilet at home in Austria.

According to reports, the man, who has not been named, was using the toilet in his bathroom at around 6am and felt a “pinch in the area of his genitals” He then turned around to see a 5ft foot (1.5 metres) albino snake in the toilet bowl.

The reticulated python, a constrictor native to Asia which can grow to a length of nearly 30ft (9m), is believed to have found its way into the toilet via the network of drains in the apartment block in the Austrian city of Graz.

The police said in a statement: “Shortly after he sat on the toilet the Graz resident – by his own account – felt a ‘pinch’ in the area of his genitals.”The man needed treatment in hospital for minor injuries.

A reptile expert contacted by the emergency services removed the snake from the toilet, cleaned it, and returned it to its owner.

The 24-year-old neighbour, who owns 11 non-venumous constrictor snakes, has been reported to the prosecutors’ office on suspicion of negligently causing bodily harm, the police said.

2023: There May not Be Elections In Nigeria — UK Govt

The government of the United Kingdom has warned that the 2023 general elections may not hold in Nigeria if the current spate of violence and insecurity continues.

The Director, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office in the United Kingdom, Chris Beecroft made the submission yesterday during the launch of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Peace and Inclusive Security Initiative (PISI) in Abuja.

Beecroft identified active insurgency in the North East; farmers-herders conflicts which are extending across the country, resource conflicts in the Niger Delta, the tension in the South-East and banditry in the North West as some of the major challenges.

The UK government official however said a solution is definitely possible but requires all stakeholders to work together.

He noted that while the military and the police need to be strengthened, the solution to Nigeria’s security challenge does not lie in that alone but in reconciliation, mediation, arbitration, and access to justice as well.

He said: “We are at a critical juncture in Nigeria’s journey, and now is an important moment for new thinking and action to build a more peaceful future for all Nigerians.

“The Foreign, Common-wealth and Development Office values our relationship with the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, and have supported the NGF through our programs, including SPARC, PERL and most recently the Technical Assistance provided in framing the Peace and Inclusive Security initiative, PISI.

“Nigeria faces significant peace and security challenges. There is an active insurgency in the North East; farmer-herder conflicts are extending across the country; resource conflicts in the Delta; tension in the South-East; and banditry in the North West. The rise in conflict risks destabilizing Nigeria’s democracy in the run-up to the 2023 elections.

“Conflict destroys lives, destroys livelihoods, destroys hope and ambition for the future. Conflict represents an existential threat to Nigeria’s unity and its development.

‘’The police and army are in urgent need of reform-but the solution to Nigeria’s instability does not lie in simply strengthening the police and army-but rather in building an effective social contract, building federal, state, local and community level infrastructure to manage conflict; and in giving young people jobs and opportunities so they have a stake in a prosperous and peaceful Nigeria.

‘’Injustice and impunity, weak Justice institutions, the proliferation of small arms and weapons, the weaponization of social media, are all drivers of conflict and instability. But with the right commitment, dedication, and support, there are solutions.

“The UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, FCDO, recognizes the important role NGF plays in setting the peace and security agenda, building state-level and community level structures and institutions to reduce violence and respond to conflict and insecurity across Nigeria.

“The FCDOis keen to continue its collaboration with and support for the government of Nigeria in its efforts to deal with the mounting insecurity. The UK is pleased to have been able to support this initiative and is committed to continuing working with the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, in advancing its peace and security agenda.

“The UK is engaged in supporting Nigeria to reduce violent conflict in a number of areas; we promote a regional response in the North East and Lake Chad Basin through our contribution to the Regional Stabilisation Facility, RSF, and delivery of programs on peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance, protection of civilians, human development, good governance, and accountability.

‘’All our programming, whether focused on health, education, economic growth, or governance, works to reduce the risk of violent conflict and support peace-building infrastructure.

“Peace and stability will be achieved when the causes of conflict in society are managed through strong, fair, and responsive governance mechanisms, whether at community, state, or federal level.

‘’The use of the police and army will always be only part of the solution. Greater emphasis needs to be placed on reconciliation, mediation, arbitration, and access to justice – all vital components of a vibrant, resilient, and effective social contract.”

Also speaking at the launch, Chairman of NGF and Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country had also worsened the security challenges in the country and increased the level of violence and fatalities from crime.

According to him, between May 2011 and February 2021, over 76,000 deaths were reported by the press and tracked by the Nigeria Security Tracker, NST – project of the Council on Foreign Relations, Africa program, which documents violence in Nigeria.

In the words of Fayemi, ‘’Today’s event heralds an important milestone for the Forum as we seek to build a more inclusive and collaborative platform to drive an urgent country-wide response to the security challenges our country is facing.

“Nigeria is still at the crossroads. One of the key areas where there is an urgent need for consensual action today is security governance, given the escalation in the spate of violence and coordinated criminal activities that have undermined government authority and waned public trust in recent times.

‘’The level of insecurity across parts of the country is not only eroding citizens’ safety and people’s means of livelihood, but it is also threatening the expression of the rights of all Nigerians.

Armed Bandits kidnap the Emir of Kajuru and 12 other family members in Kaduna

Bandits have kidnapped the Emir of Kajuru, Alhaji Alhassan Adamu, alongside members of his family and aides, including women and children.

The Emir was attacked at his palace in Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, in the early hours of Sunday, July 11.

While confirming the abduction of Emir of Kajuru, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Muhammed Jalige, said the Emir was abducted alongside 10 other persons.

The statement from the police PRO reads: “The Kaduna Police Command through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kajuru, Kaduna is in receipt of an unfortunate report on the kidnap of the Chief of Kajuru, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Alhassan Adamu in the early hours of today 11th July, 2021.

“The incident occurred about 0234hrs when armed wielding bandits in large numbers invaded Kajuru town, shot sporadically and gained access into the Chief’s residence where they abducted him and ten (10) members of his immediate family to an unknown destination.

“Notwithstanding, the Joint patrol of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), conventional Police and the Nigerian Army attached to Kajuru LGA are currently engaged in search and rescue mission around the forest for a possible rescue of the victims while IGP’s Tactical units have been contacted for technical support.

“The Command is saddened with this incident and it’s not relenting in ensuring lasting solution to current upsurge of criminality in the state.

“Members of the public are urged to remain calm and should always support the Police and other security agencies with credible information that will enable them curtail any possible attack on innocent citizens before it happened.”

However, a palace source told journalists that the bandits raided the Emir’s residence on Sunday around 12 a.m. and abducted 12 other persons, including the royal family members and aides.

It was said that those abducted included three women, two of the Emir’s grandchildren and three aides.

“Respond to Armed bandits in the language they understand” – President Buhari admonishes the Military

Nigeria's revenue has dropped to more than 60% - President Buhari

President Buhari on Saturday, July 10, condemned the repeated bandit killings in Zamfara and Kaduna States, urging the military to respond to the worrying situation in a language that the bandits understand.

According to a statement released by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the President notes that the military, and other security agencies are now working on new methods and policies that are yielding good results in many of the troubled parts of the country and calls for a crushing response to the killing of innocent citizens in the rural communities.

”He also averts that the nation, its military and the entire population needs to summon the courage required to defeat the bandits and terrorists.

President Buhari condemns some politicians making utterances on security, merely seeking applause, advising them to join the ongoing genuine efforts aimed at finding lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the nation.

He expresses the nation’s sorrow over the loss of lives, urging security agencies to do everything possible to prevent the recurrence of attacks with impunity.” Adesina’s statement read

Lionel Messi’s Argentina team beat Brazil 1-0 in Copa America final (photos)

Lionel Messi’s wait for an international trophy is finally over after Argentina defeated Brazil 1 – 0 at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro to win the 2021 Copa América on Sunday morning, July 11.

Angel Di Maria scored the only goal of the game with a fine lob in the first half after several chances. The PSG star received a long pass from the impressive Rodrigo De Paul, which he converted.

4 13

The win also ended Argentina’s 28-year wait for a major trophy, and Brazil’s unbeaten home record that stretched back more than 2,500 days. The victory was also Argentina’s 15th Copa America triumph and means they draw level with Uruguay as the all-time leading winners.

1 51

For Brazil, it was the first time in 6 editions that they failed to lift the trophy.

‘I can’t cry yet,’ Di Maria said after the match. ‘We dreamed of getting this, and we fought. Many people criticized us and asked us not to come back (to the national team).’

2 36

Messi, 34, dropped to the ground in joy at the full-time whistle and was swiftly mobbed by his team-mates, before being hurled in the air in celebration, as he finally claimed top-level honours with his country in his 10th major tournament.

Messi had a chance to sign off the win but slipped with the goal at his mercy, in what would have been the perfect finale for the Argentine captain.

Defending champions Brazil were disappointing, with their only chances of note coming when Richarlison and Gabriel Barbosa forced saves from Emi Martinez.

3 25

In a contrast of emotions, Messi’s opposite number 10 and former Barcelona team-mate Neymar sank to his knees in tears at the final whistle, as his own personal pursuit of international success continues, having missed Brazil’s 2019 Copa win through injury.

The pair, who played together at the Nou Camp between 2013 and 2017 before the Brazilian’s move to Paris St-Germain, embraced in a long-lasting hug while they waited for the trophy ceremony.

The game was watched by a small crowd of 7,000 invited guests, because of Covid-19 restrictions, but was the first of the tournament to have spectators in attendance.

The sparse home supporters made their voices heard, though, particularly every time Messi touched the ball, booing and jeering the forward.

The tournament, delayed by a year because of the coronavirus pandemic and moved from initial co-hosts Colombia and Argentina, was switched to 2019 hosts Brazil in a last-minute decision which received criticism in light of a surge in coronavirus cases in the country.

Nigeria defeats U.S. men’s basketball team with 90-87 win, what a shock !(photos)

The U.S. men’s basketball team lost to Nigeria 90-87 on Saturday night, July10, in its first pre-Olympic exhibition game.

Nigeria who had six NBA players and former NBA head coach Mike Brown at the helm, beat USA, inflicting the country’s first ever loss to an African Nation.

The landmark victory came nine years after the U.S. embarrassed Nigeria 156-73 at the London Olympics, the U.S.’ biggest win in Olympic men’s basketball history.

1 50

That Nigerian team included just one NBA player (Al-Farouq Aminu).

However, this Nigerian team includes Gabe Vincent, Precious Achiuwa and KZ Okpala of the Miami Heat, Chimezie Metu of the Sacramento Kings, Josh Okogie of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miye Oni of the Utah Jazz with Jahlil Okafor and Jordan Nwora also on the bench, making it the largest contingent of NBA players on a single Olympic roster for any non-American nation in history.

2 35

“I’m kind of glad it happened,” said U.S. head coach Gregg Popovich, noting that Nigeria has been practicing together since late June and the Americans for four days. “That loss means nothing if we don’t learn from it, but it can be the most important thing in this tournament for us to learn lessons from it.

“I don’t think anyone should act nor would we act [like] that this is the end of the world.”

Popovich said the difference in the game was three-pointers. Nigeria went 20 for 42, making twice as many as the U.S. It also won the rebounding battle 46-34.

3 23

The U.S. meanwhile had superstars like Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Kevin Love while superstars including LeBron James and Stephen Curry withdrew from the Olympic team consideration .

Only once has an African nation ever challenged a U.S. men’s senior national team — the U.S. beat Egypt 34-32 at the first world championship in 1950, according to USA Basketball records.

No African nation has never made the Olympic men’s basketball quarterfinals. From 2000 into 2016, African nations lost 28 consecutive Olympic games to non-African nations.

Congrats to Nigeria.

Naomi Osaka talks about her mental health and French Open withdrawal

Tennis star Naomi Osaka has asked for more “privacy and empathy” when she returns to action following her French Open withdrawal due to mental health reasons,

In  May, Osaka announced she would not participate in post-match news conferences at Roland Garros in order to protect her mental health. She said she had suffered bouts of depression since winning her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2018 and that talking to the media triggered anxiety.

The 23-year-old later withdrew from the French Open after her first-round win and later pulled out of Wimbledon, but is due to play at this summer’s Olympics in the country of her birth, Japan.

In an essay for a special issue of Time magazine ahead of the Olympics, world No 2 Osaka wrote: “The world is as divided now as I can remember in my short 23 years.

“Issues that are so obvious to me at face value, like wearing a mask in a pandemic or kneeling to show support for anti-racism, are ferociously contested. I mean, wow!

“So, when I said I needed to miss French Open press conferences to take care of myself mentally, I should have been prepared for what unfolded.

“I felt under a great amount of pressure to disclose my symptoms – frankly because the press and the tournament did not believe me. I also do not want to have to engage in a scrutiny of my personal medical history ever again.

“So I ask the press for some level of privacy and empathy next time we meet. I do hope that people can relate and understand it’s OK to not be OK, and it’s OK to talk about it.”

Court awards $50k to Tristan Thompson in libel case against paternity accuser, Kimberly Alexander

NBA star, Tristan Thompson has been awarded $50k in a libel case against paternity accuser, Kimberly Alexander.

Tristan had sued Alexander for libel last year and wanted $100k in damages after claiming her allegation of him being the father of her child hurt his reputation, and cost him endorsement deals because companies saw him as a brand hazard.

Legal documents obtained by TMZ showed the court entered a default judgment in favor of Tristan against Kimberly Alexander for the amount of $50k, plus 10% interest per year until it’s paid off. She was also ordered to pay $2,901.75 in court costs.

The judge slashed the damages in half because Tristan didn’t specifically lay out which endorsements he lost due to Alexander’s allegations.

”They are not the property of the state government”- Oba of Benin fumes

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has kicked against the decision of the Edo state government to take custody of the 1,130 stolen Benin artefacts that are in the process of being repatriated from Germany.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki and the other top government officials are currently in Germany to facilitate the return of the stolen artefacts that were allegedly looted during the invasion of the Benin Kingdom in 1897 by the British led by Captain Philip.

While the palace wants the artefacts kept in the Benin Royal Museum which will be built within the palace, the state government wants the items preserved in the proposed Edo Museum of West African Arts which would be funded and executed by a private company named Legacy Restoration Trust Ltd.

At a press conference held on Friday at the palace, the Benin monarch said that there was no controversy over the issue as an agreement had been reached that the artefacts would be housed in the royal museum. He opined that since the artefacts were stolen from the Benin palace, it is expected that they be returned to the monarch when they are repatriated.

“I have called this meeting today (Friday) to intimate you of the matter of the Benin artefacts in Europe on the verge of being repatriated, which I am sure you have heard and read about in recent weeks. You may also have heard about the recent activities of a group of individuals who incorporated a company since January 2020 called Legacy Restoration Trust Limited.

It has become germane to note that the advocacy and demands for the return of the artefacts looted from the Benin Kingdom in 1897 have been going on for decades before the emergence of the incumbent Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki. I must sincerely thank the governor for joining the struggle and showing commitment to retrieve our stolen cultural heritage from Europe.

While anticipating the return of the looted artefacts from Europe, I want to note that attempts to divert the destination or the right of custody of the artefacts is not in the interest of the people of Benin Kingdom, to whom the Palace of the Oba of Benin provides leadership. The looted artefacts awaiting repatriation from Europe are the cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom created by our ancestors and forefathers within the traditional norms and rites of the kingdom.

They are not property of the state government or any private corporate entity that is not a creation of the Benin Kingdom. The right and only legitimate destination for the artefacts to be repatriated as already pronounced by my father is under the aegis of the Benin Royal Museum that will be sited within the precincts of the Palace of the Oba of Benin, from where they were looted, and also, the proper traditional institution that is also the custodian of all the cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom.

The palace, therefore, strongly advises that anyone, group, organisation, or government – national and international – that is dealing with any organisation or artificial group in the process of returning the looted artefacts from the Benin Kingdom would be doing so at their own risk and against the will of the people of the Benin Kingdom.”

Speaking further, Oba Ewuare II said

“I informed him (Obaseki) that Oba Ewuare II Foundation had been registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and had worked out a framework for not only receiving the artefacts but also building a modern structure, the Benin Royal Museum, within the precincts of the palace and that land has been secured for the building of the Benin Royal Museum under the supervision of the traditional institution.

But for reasons best known to him, the governor has gone against the understanding, given recent events. As a matter of fact, the people of Benin Kingdom and other stakeholders, especially the Benin Dialogue Group, had at different meetings endorsed the Benin Royal Museum to be built within the palace, as well as endorsing the Oba Ewuare II Foundation for fundraising and other requisite administration processes.

We wish to use this medium to call on the Federal Government to take custody of these artefacts on behalf of the palace until the Benin Royal Museum is ready for their collection. Under no circumstances should the custody of our age-old artefacts be handed to any privately contrived entity like Legacy Restoration Trust.”

Tyson Fury tests positive for Covid-19 as Deontay Wilder fight is postponed

Tyson Fury has tested positive for Covid-19 with his fight with Deontay Wilder to be rescheduled.

The Gipsy King was due to take on Wilder for a third time on July 24 in Las Vegas before an outbreak of coronavirus hit his camp.

On Thursday afternoon, Fury’s team moved to deny reports that his trilogy fight has been called off because of a Covid outbreak in the camp.

His promoter Top Rank said in a statement: “We continue to monitor the health status of Tyson and his team and the status of the event has not changed to date.”

1 42

Wilder’s team were also far from convinced by the report with coach Malik Scott saying: “We are getting ready to go to work right now and everything remains the same. We are not going for no bananas in the tail pipe.

“We are dealing with a fighter that I believe nothing he says. We are dealing with a fighter who says he is going to come in the ring at 300lbs. I don’t believe that.

“We are dealing with a fighter who says he and [Conor] McGregor are something like best friends and then McGregor says he doesn’t even know the guy. You just never know with Tyson.”

However, according to boxing reporter Dan Rafael, Fury has tested positive for the virus and as a result, the fight has been postponed, with an October date targeted.

His dad John claimed that a sparring partner had been the first to contract the virus.

“I was shocked,” John Fury said. “You don’t want these things to happen. Apparently one of the sparring partners brought it in. He’s infected the full team. These things happen in life. He will have to reschedule.”

A baby holding mum’s contraception coil after it failed to stop pregnancy (photo)

A newborn baby was pictured holding his mum’s contraception coil which failed to prevent her from getting pregnant with him.

Paula dos Santos Escudero Alvarez, 32, gave birth to Bernardo on July 4, 2021, in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

The mum had been using birth control, called an intrauterine device (IUD), for three years.

But she still fell pregnant, which is extremely rare, as the device tends to work for between five and ten years.

Bernardo was born healthy at 32 weeks, weighing just over 3kg (7lbs).

Surprisingly, the woman’s first child, Gabriel, was also born when she was on the pill.

Birth photographer Michelle Oliveira described Bernado as a “miracle”.

A Wife of Yobe Politician recounts how Boko Haram killed her husband right in front of her

The wife of a politician in Yobe state, Maryam Adamu, has shared the heartbreaking story of how her husband was gruesomely murdered by Boko Haram insurgents right in front of her.

In an interview with The Nation, Adamu who is a mother of four described her deceased husband as a politician who helped politicians vying for any political position distribute items to the electorates during any election.

“My husband was a politician. He was like a delegate in the local government. During campaigns, politicians like the chairman or councillors bring food and palliatives for my husband to share with the people here. They bring the items to our house.

I sometimes share the food items and sometimes wrappers with women; it could be sugar, rice or millet and any other supportive package.

My husband will collect them and write down the names of the people that will benefit. We used to do this together. He was a man with a very good heart. He has the interest of the people at heart. He was loving and caring not just to his family but everyone else in the community.” he said

On how he was gruesomely murdered, Adamu who described the day as one of the darkest in her life said

”They will either fish out the men or the young males, kill them or ask them to stay aside and were later taken away.

My husband was killed alongside other ten men, in an attack which was carried out by the Boko Haram people. They killed both young and old, from ages 13 and above. They were all shot dead. They selected and took others away.

My husband was killed right in front of me. I covered him with my wrapper and hijab. They were looking for him when they gathered the people. You know that Boko Haram did not like politicians and my husband was a politician. A very popular one at that time. As they were killing people, one of the Boko Haram came to me and asked where my husband was. I told him, I don’t know. He asked me to stand up, before I could stand, he opened my wrapper and hijab, removed my husband and slaughtered him in my presence. It is such an experience I find very difficult to recall. I still recall that a stray bullet hit a pregnant woman who was sitting just beside me on that fateful day. She was bleeding seriously. I doubt if she survived because there was no medical care.

Speaking on life after the demise of her husband, Ms. Adamu said

“Throughout my years of marriage with my husband, I knew as human beings and as Muslims that we shall die one day but the way my husband left me has left a deep scar in my heart.

Everything is on me, feeding, health care, education and all other basic needs. Sometimes I sell beans cake and fried yam, while sometimes I cook rice for my children to sell just for us to survive.

When it is the farming season we hire land from the people to farm. We pay the sum of ten thousand Naira or twenty thousand Naira for a piece of land. Our only problem is the Fulani herdsmen who usually destroy our farms, especially last year when they ate everything that I cultivated with my children. We are hoping to go again this year as we pray for a blessed rainy season. Farming helped us, it is what gives us hope but our biggest problem is the Fulani herdsmen, they destroy our farms completely and left us with nothing.

I manage to send my children to school even with the current difficulties, some to government schools while others to Islamic. We are hoping to go back to our houses; we left everything and ran away. I am hoping for peace to be restored so we can move back to our houses. We are now living in a house built with grass. Life now is very difficult and praying for help from God almighty”

European Commision fines BMW and Volkwagen $1Billion

The European Commission has fined Volkswagen Group and BMW the sum of $1 billion for colluding with Daimler to hold back the development of technology that could have reduced harmful emissions from their vehicles.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 8, the Commission said the three German carmakers, along with Volkswagen subsidiaries Audi and Porsche, breached EU antitrust rules by agreeing to avoid competing on technical development in the area of nitrogen oxide cleaning.

The charges relate to conduct that took place between 2009 and 2014, when the carmakers held “regular technical meetings” to discuss the development of technology that eliminates harmful nitrogen-oxide emissions from diesel passenger cars, according to the Commission.

“The five car manufacturers Daimler, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche possessed the technology to reduce harmful emissions beyond what was legally required under EU emission standards. But they avoided to compete on using this technology’s full potential to clean better than what is required by law,” the EU Commission’s top antitrust official, Margrethe Vestager, said in the statement.

“In today’s world, polluting less is an important characteristic of any car. And this cartel aimed at restricting competition on this key competition parameter,” she added.

Volkswagen (VLKAF), including its Audi and Porsche brands, was fined €502 million ($595 million) and BMW (BMWYY) was fined €373 million ($442 million). Daimler (DDAIF) was not fined because it revealed the existence of the cartel, the Commission said.

Back in 2015 Volkswagen admitted to rigging millions of diesel engines to make their emissions appear less toxic in tests than they actually were. The scandal set off years of investigations, fines and settlements that have cost the carmaker at least $39 billion and sullied its reputation.

After the ruling by the EC, Volkswagen in a statement said it was considering whether to appeal the ruling, which it suggested set a questionable precedent.

“The Commission is breaking new legal ground with this decision because it is the first time it has prosecuted technical cooperation as an antitrust violation,” the company said in a statement.

“It is also imposing fines even though the contents of the talks were never implemented and customers were therefore never harmed,” it added.

Volkswagen, Europe’s largest automaker said that Commission guidelines on technical cooperation agreements between carmakers “no longer do justice to the complex challenges facing the automotive industry” and need to be updated.

In a statement, BMW said that the Commission had “dropped most of its charges of antitrust violations” and cleared the carmaker of suspicion of using “prohibited defeat devices” to cheat on emissions tests. “This underlines that there has never been any allegation of unlawful manipulation of emission control systems by the BMW Group,” the company added.

CF Montreal Club sold their striker, Erik Hurtado for refusing Covid vaccine

Canadian football club, CF Montreal have sold striker Erik Hurtado to Columbus Crew for refusing to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

According to Mail Online, the Canadian side recently completed the sale in return for the equivalent of about £150,000 in general allocation money, sealing the exit of a player who only signed in February, playing seven times and not at all since May 22.

According to the Athletic, sporting director Olivier Renard admitted that his refusal to get jabbed ruled out cross-border travel, was a key factor in the decision to let him go. To make that process go more smoothly, the club traded Erik Hurtado to the Columbus Crew SC for $200,000 after Hurtado declined the COVID-19 vaccine.

The team announced the deal, and the reason behind it, in a news release Thursday. Team sporting director Oliver Renard explained Hurtado being unvaccinated made his situation “problematic” if the team wanted to return to Montreal to play games.

“There was some interest in Erik during the past few weeks and we listened to the offers, even though we were satisfied with Erik’s work. Because he’s not vaccinated against COVID-19, his situation was problematic and we started considering a trade when we got the confirmation that the team could return to Montreal,” said CF Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard. “Before proceeding, Erik also confirmed that he was not comfortable taking the vaccine, so we concluded this deal, which we felt was very satisfactory. We would like to thank Erik for his professionalism and wish him good luck in his career.”

Hurtado, 30, signed with CF Montreal as a free agents in the offseason. He played seven games with the team, including two starts. He registered one assist with the team.

Prior to joining CF Montreal, Hurtado played for Vancouver and Kansas City. His best season came in 2014, when Hurtado scored 5 goals in 19 starts with Vancouver.

US Actor, Harry Hamlin reacts to Scott Dissick, 38, dating his daughter, 20

Actor Harry Hamlin has revealed how he feels about his daughter dating a man who is 18 years older than she is.

During Wednesday night’s episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the 69-year-old dad to Amelia Hamlin said though he wished Amelia was dating someone closer to her age, he doesn’t exactly have a leg to stand on when it comes to critiquing the age difference because he had dated 44-year-old Ursula Andress when he was only 28 years old and shares a son with her.

He said;

“My feelings about it, I must confess: The issue that’s the most enduring is the age difference, which to me is odd.

“But, then again, every time I think of that, I think of myself and Ursula Andress. I was 14 years younger than she when we had (our son) Dimitri, so I can’t really complain, right?”

Rinna also said that her daughter’s relationship with Disick has come with its own set of challenges, pointing out the false rumors of them being engaged.

She said;

“The press stuff that’s coming is, like, holy guacamole. My mom saw it in the market and called and said, ‘Is this true?’ I’m like, ‘Mom, no!’ But I mean, that’s what we’re dealing with.”

Nigeria: First confirmed case of deadly Delta variant of COVID19 found !

WHO says that Covid-19 is proving exceptionally difficult to stop.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has detected a confirmed case with the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, also known as lineage B.1.617.2.

A statement released by NCDC’S head of Communications, Dr. Yahya Disu, says the variant was detected in a traveler to Nigeria, following the routine travel test required of all international travelers and genomic sequencing at the NCDC National Reference Laboratory, Abuja.

Disu said the Delta variant is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a variant of concern, given its increased transmissibility.

”The variant has been detected in over 90 countries and is expected to spread to more countries. The variant has also been linked to a surge in cases in countries where it is the dominant strain in circulation. There are ongoing studies to understand the impact of the variant on existing vaccines and therapeutics.

As part of Nigeria’s COVID-19 response, NCDC has been working with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), African Centre for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), and other laboratories within the national network, to carry out genomic sequencing. This is to enable the detection of variants of concern, and initiate response activities. All data on variants from Nigeria have been published on GISAID, a global mechanism for sharing sequencing data. Given the global risk of spread of the Delta variant, positive samples from international travelers to Nigeria are sequenced regularly.”the statement further read

Disu said given the high transmissibility of the Delta variant and following its detection in Nigeria, the NCDC urges all Nigerians to ensure strict adherence to public health and social measures in place. He said proven public health and social measures such as physical distancing, frequent handwashing, and proper use of face masks, prevent infections and save lives. The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective and offers protection against the disease.

”Additionally, states are urged to ensure sample collection and testing for COVID-19 is accessible to the public. Public settings such as schools with accommodation facilities, workplaces and camps should utilise the approved Antigen-based Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) for rapid testing of their population.” the statement further reads

‘I had my first orgasm while watching Nicolas Cage in Face/Off film as a teen’ – Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish has opened up about her first ever orgasm and she gives actor Nicolas Cage credit for it.

The 41-year-old comedienne, while promoting the new season of her animated comedy series Tuca & Bertie on Adult Swim, spoke about her life.

She revealed in her interview with NPR that she had never met Nicholas Cage before that and she had to tell him a funny story before they proceeded with the film.

She said she told him how she got her first orgasm watching his 1997 film Face/Off.

Haddish began by saying she gets uncomfortable when she has to act around someone she doesn’t know, and usually has to tell them a story to break the ice.

After the first hour, she convinced Nicholas Cage to let her tell him the story and everything would be “cool” after that.

She said: “So basically, I was at the movie theater seeing Face/Off, I was about 17 years old, on a date with this guy, and nobody else was in the theater really.

She said they started making out and it was her, “first time being fiddled with,” adding she was, “achieving a momentous moment that I never achieved in my life, I opened my eyes and the eyes of Nicolas Cage are looking into my eyes.”

“That was my first Big O,” she said, adding she stood across from, “those same big old eyeballs telling him the story.”

She added her brain was “going crazy” and that she had to tell him the story so she could get it out of her head.

When asked how Cage reacted to the story, Haddish said, “He laughed super hard and he goes, ‘You know, my first wife, she saw me in a movie and she said she was gonna marry me and we ended up getting married.'”

It was also learnt that Mrs Bolaniran had two identical twins, both males who were born with HIV courtesy of their father’s status.

Omejalile said;

“He does it with so much impunity without any form of remorse, he was arrested several times but buys his way out and goes after his victims and makes life a living hell for them.

“His latest atrocity was on his wife Mrs Bolaniran, who after infecting her with HIV, he domestically abused. He also sexually molested his stepdaughter who is now living with HIV.

“Efforts to get Bolaniran arrested by Igando Police Station proved abortive initially.

“It’s also on record that Mrs Bolaniran had two identical twins, both males who were born with HIV courtesy of their father’s status.

“Mrs. Bolaniran couldn’t bear the trauma of humiliation her husband subjected her and her children to, so she moved out to seek refuge in a church.

“Ever since she moved out of the apartment, Bolaniran has been going to the church to cause trouble.”

Bolaniran was reportedly transferred to the Gender Anti-human trafficking unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID), Panti, following his arrest.

Omejalile added;

“Our findings on Bolarinan showed that he was once jailed for 10 years, which makes him an ex-convict.”

Bolaniran has however been disowned by the National Union of Road Transport Workers after he claimed to be a member of the union.

Lagos State Secretary of the union, Oluwaseyi Bankole who debunked the claim said the suspect who reportedly operates at Iyana Iba Motor Park is not a member of the Union as the Lagos NURTW does not operate at the said park.

Bankole said;

“The man is not a member of our union. As a matter of fact, our union does not operate at Iyana Iba Motor Park. The park in question is operated by another union. NURTW is made up of law-abiding citizens, hence our members will not engage in criminal activities.

“We have a database of our registered members, from units to state and the national headquarters of union, and these members are known to be above board in all their dealings.”

Crowd flock to see dwarf cow in Bangladesh, smaller than a goat

Thousands of people have defied a nationwide coronavirus lockdown in Bangladesh to see a dwarf cow believed to be the world’s smallest cow.

Rani, a 23-month-old dwarf cow, is 51-centimetre (20-inch) tall and only weighs 26 kilograms. It has become a media star with scores of newspapers and television stations throwing the spotlight on the small cow at a farm near Dhaka.

Tourists are flocking to the farm in Charigram, southwest of Dhaka.

“I have never seen anything like this in my life. Never,” said Rina Begum, 30, who came from a neighbouring town.

The owners say Rani is 10 centimetres shorter than Manikyam, a small bovine from Kerala that currently holds the Guinness World Records for the shortest cow.

M.A. Hasan Howlader, manager of Shikor Agro farm, used a tape measure to show dozens of onlookers how Rani dwarfs her closest rival Manikyam, a cow in the Indian state Kerala that currently holds the world record.

“People come long distances despite the coronavirus lockdown. Most want to take selfies with Rani,” Howlader told AFP, adding Guinness World Records had promised a decision in three months.

“More than 15,000 people have come to see Rani in the past three days alone,” he said.

Donald Trump to sue Twitter, Facebook and Google CEOs over being banned from their platforms

Former US president Donald Trump has announced plans to sue tech giants Google, Twitter, and Facebook along with their CEOs, Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey because of bans imposed on him and others.

Mr Trump was suspended from his social accounts in January over public safety concerns in the wake of the Capitol riots, led by his supporters.

On Wednesday, Mr. Trump called the lawsuit “a very beautiful development for our freedom of speech”.

In a news conference from his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, Mr Trump railed against social media companies and Democrats, who he accused of espousing misinformation.

“We are demanding an end to the shadow-banning, a stop to the silencing, and a stop to the blacklisting, banishing, and cancelling that you know so well, adding that “we are asking the court to impose punitive damages.”

Trump argued that the suspension of his social media accounts amounts to an infringement on the First Amendment’s guarantee that speech won’t be curtailed by the government.

“The Founding Fathers inscribed this right in the very first amendment to our Constitution because they knew that free speech is essential to the prevention of, look … the prevention of horror,” said Trump, who called the case a “pivotal battle” for the right to free speech.

Trump is filing the suit as a class action instead of simply on his own behalf, contending that the social media platforms should not enact limits on other conservative users.

Tokyo: State of Emergency to be declared during Olympics due to surge in Coronavirus infections

Tokyo will reportedly be under a state of emergency while hosting the upcoming Summer Olympics in Japan.

According to Kyodo News, the Japanese government will declare another COVID-19 state of emergency in Tokyo until August 22 which exceeds the duration of the upcoming Olympic Games amid a recent surge in infections, a source with knowledge of the plan confirmed.

The decision will impact whether fans will be allowed to attend the event, which was already limited to 50% capacity (maximum 10,000 fans) as of last month.

A senior government official told Kyodo News that venues in Tokyo will likely remain empty, while some events will be held outside of the city.

The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 920 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, which is the largest increase since Japan’s fourth wave of infections in mid-May and marked the 18th consecutive time the country saw an increase from the previous week.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said a decision on what to do regarding a quasi-state of emergency set to expire on Sunday in 10 prefectures (including Tokyo and Osaka), as well as the ongoing state of emergency in Okinawa, will be made on Thursday (July 8).

“Infections in Tokyo are trending upward, and we will take every necessary measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus,” Suga told reporters after meeting with cabinet members, including health minister Norihisa Tamura and Yasutoshi Nishimura, the minister in charge of Japan’s COVID-19 response.

Tokyo has been under a state of emergency three times previously since the COVID-19 pandemic began last year, which has included the Japanese government banning restaurants from serving alcohol, a measure reportedly being considered again, according to sources who spoke to  Kyodo News anonymously.

The decision comes amid public opposition of Japan hosting the four-year annual event which was canceled in 2020 amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic due to continued coronavirus concerns.
