DSS releases the man that prepares charms for Sunday Igboho

The Department of State Services has released one Dada Ifasooto, who was detained for 6 months for allegedly preparing charms for embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho.

Ifasooto was taken into custody on July 16, 2021,  two weeks after DSS operatives stormed Igboho’s Ibadan residence in a Gestapo style, killing two of his aides and arresting 12 others.

The man’s whereabout was said to be unknown until one of Igboho’s aides who was recently released, told one of the Yoruba nation agitator’s lawyers that he was being held by the DSS in an underground cell.

One of Igboho’s lawyers in Nigeria, Pelumi Olajengbesi said in a statement on Friday December 24;

‘Dada Ifasooto Released from DSS Custody’

“This is to announce the release of Mr. Dada Ifasooto who was secretly arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) on 16th July, 2021 on the allegation that he is a native doctor who prepares charms for Chief Sunday Igboho.

“Mr. Dada Ifasooto’s whereabouts was unknown for months until one of the released detainees from SSS custody informed our office that he is in the custody of the Secret Service in an underground cell.

“The strange allegations against Mr. Dada Ifasooto and his incarceration defies logical and legal thoughts and underpins the ill-motivated persecution of Chief Sunday Igboho and his associates. Amongst other things, it exposes the straw-clutching antics of the State Security Service in this matter even as it underscores the ridiculous and unlawful length the agency is willing to go.”

Nigerian Govt. restricts religious gatherings to 50% capacity

The federal government has restricted religious gatherings to 50 per cent with full compliance to public health measures, following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha said in a statement on Thursday December 23, that the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 may be forced to introduce more restrictions should there be an increase in cases.

It read;

“The Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 recognizes the importance of the Christmas and New Year celebrations for most Nigerians. As we prepare to celebrate with our families and loved ones, it is important that we do so safely by taking the necessary precautionary measures to stop the further spread of COVID-19 in our country.

“The PSC wishes to remind Nigerians that we are now experiencing the 4th wave COVID19 as new cases have continued to rise in the country. This is the result of a mix of very low vaccination coverage, increased travels and movements, reduced compliance to public health social measures and highly transmissible Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant now circulating in the country.

“Indoor religious congregation should be limited to 50% capacity with full compliance to public health social measures; face masks and hand sanitisers should be used at all times regardless of vaccination status while in public spaces.

“Families are advised to limit the number of visitors to their homes and put in place precautionary safety measures. Any gathering in the excess of 50 people should be done in open spaces with physical distancing.

“Avoid non-essential interstate travel at this period as this increases the risk of spreading infection from one place to another. People who intend to travel are encouraged to take a rapid COVID-19 test to confirm status as many infected persons are asymptomatic.

“Ensure that you have taken the full dose of COVID-19 vaccination including the booster dose to reduce your risk of severe infection and death in case of exposure to COVID-19.”

TikTok overtakes google as the world’s favourite social media APP

Viral video app, TikTok is now the world’s most popular online destination.

The Chinese owned app gets more hits than the American search engine, Google, according to Cloudflare, an IT security company.

Rankings by Cloudfare show that TikTok knocked Google off the top spot in February, March and June this year, and has held the number one position since August 2021.

Last year Google was first, and a number of sites including TikTok, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and Netflix were all in the top 10.

Cloudfare says one of the reasons for the surge in Tiktok’s popularity is because of the Covid pandemic, as lockdowns meant people were stuck at home and used the app for entertainment.

As at July 2021, TikTok was downloaded more than three billion times, and has more than one billion active users across the world to data company Sensor Tower.

TikTok also known as Douyin in China was originally released in September 2016.

‘Do you that some COVID-19 patients trying to flee the country?’ – Lagos airport manager says

Manager of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, Mrs. Victoria Shin-Aba, has decried attempts by passengers with COVID-19 positive PCR test results to board flights.

The Regional Manager of South West Airports said they are always in contact with Port Health Services authorities and have held meetings over the issue.

Wondering why persons who tested positive for COVID-19 will be roaming around public places and interacting with people, Shin-Aba added that they’ve ramped up enforcement of all COVID-19 protocols at the airport.

She said FAAN personnel will ensure compliance of passengers with COVID protocols on a daily basis, enforcing use of face masks and sanitisers.

The airport manager said;

“People with positive COVID test still come to the Airport to board, I don’t know for whatever reason; they know with this they can’t travel but they still bring it but definitely they are not allowed to travel.

“We have to ensure that both passengers and staff obey and comply with protocols.

“The terminal was built for the capacity of two million passengers but as we talk, we do have ten million passengers, definitely it is well over stretched and we still do our best for passengers comfort but the challenge is the cooling system but we are still working on them”.

Alert! Terrorists are planning to attack Abuja – Nigeria Immigration Service cries

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has raised alarm over alleged plans by some terrorists from neighboring countries to carry out attacks in some places in the Federal Capital Territory FCT.

According to a leaked internal memo signed by the Comptroller of Immigration Service Edirin Okoto and dated December 23, the attack is to happen between December 17, 2021, and December 31, 2021. It was issued on behalf of the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Idris Jere, to the Controllers of Immigration Service in all the land, air and sea borders of the country and the Sector Commanders of the border patrol corps.

The memo read in part

“The office of the Ag CGI is in receipt of a Security Report (URGENT) from the Presidency (OSGF). The import is about a looming attack on Nigeria’s Capital City, Abuja between 17th and 31st December 2021.

The planned attack is purportedly being led by one DRAHMANE, OULD ALI, aka Mohammed Ould Sidat, an Algerian national to be assisted by one Zahid Aminon, a Nigerien national.”

According to the memo, the foreigners who are planning to enter Nigeria from Mali through the Niger Republic, have four accomplices who are already in the country.

The memo directed personnel at the borders to; “intensify alert levels, emplace necessary countermeasures at all entry/exit points – Air, Land, Sea/Marine, including, but not limited to, surveillance, rigorous search on persons and vehicles, transhumance, to effectuate the immediate arrest of these terrorists/countervail this and any terrorists attacks in Abuja.”

ex. NSCDC commandant forfeits 60 landed properties to Federal Govt. over corruption

A  Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered final forfeiture of 60 buildings illegally acquired by a former Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Adenike Ishola Bintu, to the Federal Government.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had approached the court, seeking a final forfeiture of the buildings and a 9.6 hectare plot of land, both located at Sabon-Lugbe South-West Extension, Airport Road, Abuja, alleged to have been acquired by Bintu through corrupt means.

Counsel to ICPC, John-Paul Okwor, told the court that the Commission was relying on Section 48 (1) (2) and (3) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, which gives it power to approach the courts to forfeit properties corruptly acquired by individuals.

The Commission had argued before the court that the former NSCDC Deputy Commandant, set up a private company, Faith Winners Victory Properties Limited, through which she allegedly perpetrated the fraud by selling plots of land to unsuspecting members of the public.

The Commission also told the court that the former NSCDC Deputy Commandant, set up a private company, Faith Winners Victory Properties Limited, through which she allegedly perpetrated the fraud by selling plots of land to unsuspecting members of the public.

ICPC said in a statement;

“The subscribers, who had made several payments running into millions of naira, were never allocated plots of land nor had their funds returned to them by Bintu and her company.

“Furthermore, ICPC proved before the court that Bintu, who had jumped bail and is now a fugitive, did not enter into any partnership with NSCDC to build estates for members of the public.”

Defending herself in court, Bintu reportedly stated that the ICPC had no power to prosecute civil cases and that Sections 6 and 48 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, relied upon by the Commission have been repealed by the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2003. She then urged the court to struck out the case.

Her arguments were dismissed by the court for lack of merit, and Justice Egwuata then ruled that all the 60 buildings and the 9.6 hectare of land situated at Sabon-Lugbe South-West Extension, Airport Road, Abuja, listed by ICPC be forfeited to the federal government.

We are investigating Olori Naomi’s Instagram page over failed marriage – Ooni’s palace

Palace of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has again reacted to Olori Naomi’s disclosure of ending her marriage to the monarch.

The palace which countered claim of marriage between the monarch and his wife hitting the rocks, said they are probing a possible hack of Olori Naomi’s Instragam page.

In an interview with Punch, Director of Media and Strategy, Ooni’s palace, Moses Olafare, said as of Wednesday evening, Ogunwusi and Naomi went to bed as husband and wife, before the Queen released a statement announcing the end of their marriage on Thursday December 23.

Olafare also stated that separation in marriage cannot be done by just one person. He further claimed that as at Wednesday, Ooni of Ife was still packaging a special Christmas gift for Queen Naomi.

He said;

“Separation is a two-way affair, it is not something that is announced by one party. The announcement of separation is subject to agreement by both parties.

“The palace is not aware of such separation because we all went to bed last night (Wednesday) the two being the king and queen.

“So, if by this morning, the queen went to social media to write that she is no longer in marriage with Ooni, we will look into it to see whether or not the Instagram page truly belongs to her, and to know the reason behind it.

“But as of today, this moment, the palace is not aware of the separation. Marriage is a private affair, no matter how prominent the personalities involved, it is a private affair.

“We will dig deeper and know what happened, but like I said, all of us just woke up to read about the separation on social media.

“Even by this time yesterday, (Wednesday) kabiyesi was still packaging special gift for her.

“If you want to separate with someone, you cannot be packaging gift for her. I was aware that Kabiyesi was putting special Christmas gift together for her. If he is not in love with her, he cannot be doing that. In fact, the Christmas gift has been delivered to her already.”

Transgender man who gave birth slams nurses who call him ‘mom’

A transgender man has complained that nurses insisted on calling him “mom” during his pregnancy despite being a man.

Bennett Kaspar-Williams, 37, from Los Angeles, was born biologically female. He first realised he was trans around ten years ago, in 2011, but didn’t begin his transition until three years later.

Then six years later, in 2017 he found Malik, his future husband, who he married in 2019.

When they decided to have kids, Bennett stopped the testosterone hormone therapy he’d been on for several years to enable his ovaries to function.

Bennett, who has had gender reassigning surgery on the top half of his body but not on his genitalia, eventually decided that he would be comfortable trying to conceive and carrying a child.

Transgender man who gave birth slams nurses who call him

He fell pregnant naturally soon after they started trying. He found out he was pregnant in March 2020 and the couple welcomed their son Hudson, via Cesarean section, in October 2020.

But in the process of having little Hudson, Bennett Kaspar-Williams was troubled by the constant misgendering of him by hospital staff who insisted on calling him a “mom”.

Bennett said: “I always knew it was a possibility that my body might achieve pregnancy, but it wasn’t something I ever wanted to do until I learned how to separate the function of my body from any notions of gender.

“Once I learned to think of my body as a tool and not a collection of gendered stereotypes, I realized that I could both be the person I wanted to and bring a child into the world.

“No one can ever really know whether having children is possible until you try – being born with a uterus doesn’t make conceiving or carrying a certainty.

“That’s why it’s so important that we stop defining ‘womanhood’ in terms of ‘motherhood’, because it’s a false equivalency that all women can become mothers, that all mothers carry their children, or that all people who carry children are mothers.

“‘None of those things are universally true.”

But while in the hospital, Bennett says he was constantly misgendered, despite having a beard and a flat chest.

“The only thing that made me dysphoric about my pregnancy was the misgendering that happened to me when I was getting medical care for my pregnancy,” he said.

Transgender man who gave birth slams nurses who call him

“The business of pregnancy – and yes, I say business, because the entire institution of pregnancy care in America is centred around selling this concept of ‘motherhood’ – is so intertwined with gender that it was hard to escape being misgendered.

“Even with a full beard, a flat chest, and a ‘male’ gender marker on all my identification, people could not help but default to calling me ‘mom’, ‘mother’, or ‘ma’am’.

“That was what made me dysphoric.

Transgender man who gave birth slams nurses who call him

“Nothing about being pregnant felt ‘feminine’ to me – in fact, I think carrying a child, isolated due to the pandemic, and facing all the hospitals and appointments alone was the absolute toughest, bravest thing I’ve ever done.

“Nothing feels stronger than being able to say I’m a dad who created my own child.”

He continued: “To my son, there’s nothing more natural and normal than having a Dada and a Papa, and when he’s old enough, he will also come to know that his Dada was the one who carried him and took care of him so he could come into this world.

“Children see love, they see patience, and they see commitment.

“My son will no doubt accept that he came from me, just as he accepts all the other love and beauty around him – with open arms.”

‘We will work harder’ – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, December 23, said his administration will keep giving its best for the development of the country until May, 2023, reiterating that he will hand over as stipulated by the constitution.

The President spoke after the commissioning of Oriental Energies Resource Ltd Hanger, Muhammadu Indimi Distance Learning Centre and an International Conference Centre donated to the University of Maiduguri by business mogul, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi.

President Buhari also commissioned the Tijjani Bolori Memorial Secondary School and the first fly-over in Borno State, Custom Roundabout (3.5km) with a stretch of 10 km Gamboru Ngala Road constructed by the state government.

“ I know I swore by the Constitution, and I will leave in 17 months. I pray that the person that will take over from us will also follow the targets of securing the country and building the economy. Without securing the country, you cannot grow the economy.”President Bugari said

The President said Nigerians should appraise the performance of the administration based on what the situation was on security, economy and corruption before he came in, and where it is now.

“We have a great country,” he said, “and we thank God for giving us so much resources. But we need to develop our resources.”

The President noted that development would be more sustainable by empowering the people.

On security in the North West, he said it was sad that the people who lived together, sharing same culture and outlook for a long time would start stealing, kidnapping and killing one another. The President said the military will come down hard on the North West to stabilize the situation, having procured more hardware.

“I am highly impressed with what I have seen at this state-of-the-art Centre for Distance Learning and Auditorium sited here, the University of Maiduguri. I am told that this international conference hall has 1,300 seats.

The high quality standard of this edifice is major contribution by Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi. This intervention will benefit not only students from Borno and the North East but also students from all parts of Nigeria.

For the Oriental Energy Resources Hangar which I commissioned, it will welcome and offer support services to aircraft and pilots involved with Humanitarian Air Services,” the President noted.

President Buhari also commended Prof. Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno, for the work he had done in two years, noting that he was in the state earlier in June to commission developmental projects.

In his remarks, Governor Zulum appreciated the President for honoring the state, adding that Alhaji Indimi’s contributions to the development of the state showed he loved his people.

“Words cannot convey our gratitude for the statesmanship, “ he said.

Elon Musk’s Tesla under federal investigation for allowing drivers to play video games whilst driving

US safety regulators are investigating electric car maker, Tesla for an in-car feature that allows drivers to play video games while the car is in motion.

The documentation for the investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said the feature, known as “Passenger Play,” has been available to drivers since December 2020.

The games appear on a dashboard touchscreen and are intended for passengers. But nothing prevents drivers from playing while the car is being driven, according to the documentation associated with the investigation.

Elon Musk

Before December 2020, video gameplay in Tesla cars was enabled only when the vehicle was in park, the NHTSA investigation document said.

Even if the game is being played by a passenger and not the driver, it “may distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash,” according to the NHTSA report

Tesla, owned by Billionaire Elon Musk, produces cars that have driver assist features that allow its cars to slow down, speed up, and even change lanes without active participation from the driver.

But the company warns that drivers using such features, known as “Autopilot” and “FSD,” for full-self driving, must stay alert and keep their hands on the wheel.

The company in recent times has been criticized for making it easier for drivers to not pay attention, as the NHTSA is currently investigating Tesla for at least 11 accidents involving cars using its Autopilot or other self-driving features that collided with emergency vehicles when coming upon the scene of an earlier crash. Those 11 accidents were responsible for 17 injuries and one death, according to the agency.

NHTSA estimates that 3,142 people were killed in accidents involving distracted drivers in 2019.

“The video games are allegedly restricted only to passengers. Web browsing is available to anyone at any time,” said the complaint.

“Why is a manufacturer allowed to create an inherently distracting live video which takes over 2/3 of the screen which the driver relies on for all vehicle information? NHTSA needs to prohibit all live video in the front seat and all live interactive web browsing while the car is in motion. Creating a dangerous distraction for the driver is recklessly negligent.”

Park Geun-hye, South Korea’s ex-president, pardoned by government – was serving a 22-year prison sentence

Former South Korea president, Park Geun-hye who was serving a 22-year prison sentence for corruption and abuse of power has been granted pardon by South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The 69-year-old Park was convicted of abuse of power and coercion in 2018 after she was impeached the previous year and became her country’s first democratically-elected leader to be forced from office.

This year she has been hospitalised three times due to chronic shoulder and lower back pain.

South Korean news outlets say Park, was among the beneficiaries of Moon’s special amnesty for the new year, due to her poor health.

The announcement comes as a surprise as President Moon Jae-in previously ruled out a pardon for the former leader.

She is not the only former government official who was pardoned. South Korea’s first female prime minister Han Myeong-sook, who served a two-year prison sentence from 2015-2017 for bribery, was also exonerated by the government on Friday.

In 2018, Park was found guilty of 16 out of 18 charges, most of which related to bribery and coercion.

The court ruled that she had colluded with her close friend, Choi Soon-sil, to pressure conglomerates such as electronics giant Samsung and retail chain Lotte to give millions of dollars to foundations run by Choi.

In addition, Park was found guilty of leaking confidential presidential documents to her long-time friend.

She was initially sentenced to a total of 30 years in jail and fined 20bn won (£12.5m, $16.8m), but a high court later reduced the fine and the term to 15 years for corruption with another five for abuse of power.

The first injectable prevention medication for HIV validated – US FDA

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first injectable prevention medication for HIV.

The new drug, Apretude, is administered to patients every two months via injection. Before the approval, there were only two forms of treatment approved as prevention medication for HIV. Truvada and Descovy, both of which are an oral medication that need to be taken once per day.

Apretude is however injected every other month, setting it apart from existing medications Truvada and Descovy, which are taken orally once a day. It also costs $3,700 per dose.

Clinical trials found Apretude significantly more effective than Truvada at lowering risk of transmission among cisgender men and transgender women who have sex with men (69 percent), and especially among cisgender women (90 percent).

Daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medications must be taken fairly consistently in order to be effective similar to daily oral birth control, or medication for curing hepatitis C. A long-lasting injectable could be groundbreaking for some people who have difficulty adhering to a daily medication schedule for any number of reasons, including chaotic drug use or being unhoused.

The FDA hopes that approving Apretude is the next step in effectively ending the HIV epidemic.

Apretude is given as two initiation injections administered one month apart, and then given every two months after that. Patients can choose between receiving just Apretude, or they can take the oral medication Vocabria to see how their bodies react to the drug.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the use of PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by 99%, and reduces the risk of infection from injection drug use by at least 74%. However, strict adherence to daily medication is incredibly important in reaping the protective benefits.

PrEP medications block an enzyme that allows the HIV virus to replicate inside the human body. Truvada was approved in 2012, and Descovy approved specifically for people without vaginal tissue in 2019. Used daily as recommended, they can give around 99 percent protection against HIV transmission from sex, and somewhere around 80 percent protection from transmission via injection drug use.

Rare pink fish spotted ‘walking’ for first time in 22 years (photos)

A rare “walking” handfish has been spotted for the first time in 22 years

The handfish which is native to only Australia was spotted off the Tasmanian coast.

The species has over-sized “hands” on which they “walk” along the seabed in addition to swimming, hence it’s name.

Rare pink handfish with hand and legs

The handfish was last sighted by a diver off Tasmania in 1999 and has only been seen four other times since the

Since then government placed the species as endangered as animal scientists feared for it’s survival but Australian researchers say they have found it again, on a deep sea camera recording in a marine park.

The new recording shows the fish in deeper and more open waters than it had lived in previously.

Rare pink handfish with hand and legs

Scientists had thought the fish was a shallow water species that lived in sheltered bays – but it has now been found at a depth of 150m (390 ft) off Tasmania’s wild south coast. Pink handfish are one of 14 types of handfish seen around Tasmania, the island south of the Australian mainland.

“This is an exciting discovery and offers hope for the ongoing survival of pink handfish, as clearly they have a wider habitat and distribution than previously thought,” said lead researcher and marine biologist Neville Barrett, an associate professor at the University of Tasmania.

In February, Barret’s team had dropped a baited camera on the seabed of the Tasman Fracture Marine Park to survey the coral, lobster and fish species down there.

The protected park is known for having a long crack in the earth’s crust that has allowed marine life to be found in depths of over 4,000m.

A research assistant trawling through the footage in October says she spotted the peculiar creature among the crowd of larger animals attracted to the bait.

“I was watching one of our rough videos and there was a little fish that popped up on this reef ledge that looked a bit odd,” said Ashlee Bastiaansen from the university’s Institute of Antarctic and Marine Studies.

“I had a closer look and you could see its little hands,” she told the ABC.

The recording shows the 15cm fish emerge from a ledge after being disturbed by a rock lobster.

“In that time it’s given us a really great head-on piece of imagery … to absolutely categorically identify the species and measure its size,” Associate Prof Barrett told the ABC.

“We’re quite excited to be able to use the range of techniques now and really see how important these deeper habitats are for such a rare species.”

Malawian crossdresser sentenced to 8 years in jail for having sex with fellow men

A court in Mangochi, Malawi on Thursday, sentenced a 27-year-old man to eight years in prison for having sex with fellow men.

The man identified Jonathan Gomani and commonly known as Yvonne was found guilty of having sexual intercourse against the order of nature contrary to Section 153(c) of the Penal Code.

Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court through State Prosecutor, lnspector Amos Mwase heard that the convict who was born male but used to disguise himself as a woman, came to Mangochi early October and was trading as a commercial sex worker.

He manipulated fellow men with his feminine dressing and was being hooked as a prostitute. He then permitted them to have sexual intercourse against the order of the nature.

He was arrested by Mangochi Police detectives for robbing a 28-year old man of K120,000 cash and Samsung J2 in the room after the customer refused to pay because he discovered that Gomani was not a woman.

Mwase added that when the detectives went to search where Gonani was lodging, they rescued a 17-year-old Form 4 student who was found locked inside the room for 24 hours for refusing to pay Gonani since the child felt cheated.

The convict also confiscated the student’s Huwaei P8 phone as payment for the services.

Appearing in court, Gonani pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and sex against the order of nature and the state paraded five witnesses who proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

In mitigation, the convict asked for leniency saying that he was taking care of his old mother and also acting as a youth member who supplied condoms to sex workers as his responsibilities but Prosecutor Mwase reminded the court that the convict’s behaviour was against morals and law hence prayed for stiffer sentence.

Passing judgement, Senior Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe concurred with the state.

He therefore sentenced Gonani to 8 years for the count of unnatural sex, 3 year sentence for the count of theft and 3 years for another count of theft. The sentences will run concurrently.

Twitter ban: Nigeria loses N500B in 200 days

The Nigerian economy has incurred N499.29bn losses since the microblogging app, Twitter, was shut down by the Federal government on June 4, 2021.

According to the NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool, Nigeria’s economy loses N104.02m ($250,600) every hour to the ban on Twitter. It has been 4,800 hours (200 days) since the social networking site was blocked.

The Federal Government on June 4 announced the suspension of Twitter after the social media platform deleted a tweet by President Buhari. The suspension came with a directive to telecommunication companies to block access to Twitter for their subscribers.

While giving his Independence Day speech, Buhari hinted that the ban would continue until Twitter registered in Nigeria, had a physical presence, and representation. Recently, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, said Twitter had agreed to the nation’s conditions for the suspension to be lifted.

Zimbabwean clinic shutdown after nurses complained of ‘invisible creatures raping them’

A Zimbabwean clinic has been closed down after nurses refused turning up for duty following complaint of ‘invisible creatures raping them.’

The bizarre incident occurred at Shale Clinic in Umzingwane district, Matabeleland South. The mysterious creatures which are suspected to be tikoloshes, are also allegedly wreaking havoc at a nearby primary school where they are reportedly sexually molesting teachers.

Teachers have also threatened to join the nurses in desertation of duty if nothing is done about the situation.

One of the villagers, Themba Moyo who confirmed the incident told ZimLive;

“The clinic is closed because two female nurses and a male health technician ran away after complaining that they were being sexually abused.

“They woke up moist in their privates with signs that they had sexual intercourse. This was happening at night. At the moment, there’s just a janitor and nurse aide who live in the community.”

Hospital closed down after nurses complained about invisible creatures raping them

Another villager who spoke on condition of anonymity, said;

“There were two nurses and a health technician. They initially started complaining about being tired when reporting for duty in the morning and were claiming that they were not having restful nights.

“They then opened up and explained what was happening at the clinic. The male health technician had a torrid time one night with the creatures pulling his penis and testicles. He struggled walking in the morning as his privates were swollen. His wife had a miscarriage recently, and we believe this could be linked to the tikoloshe issue. They left as they could not stand the abuse anymore.”

The villager also spoke about how teachers at Shale Primary School were being tormented by the tikoloshes.

He added;

“The tikoloshes have sex with females, and men wake up with swollen privates. Sometimes female teachers wake up sleeping outside their rooms, with their food mysteriously eaten.”

At an emergency meeting convened by the villagers, it was agreed that prophets or traditional leaders will be hired. The villagers who suspect tikoloshes of being behind the reign of terror, also resolved to banish the owner of the tikoloshes once they are unmasked.

Moyo told the publication that a prophet from an apostolic sect from Rusape carried out a cleansing ceremony and he identified a local politician as the owner of the supernatural creatures.

The villager said;

“There was shock all around when our local Zanu PF councillor was pointed out as the owner of the tikoloshes. She was quite upset and took the matter to the police who arrested the prophets.

“The prophets were later fined US$20 each at Esigodini and released.”

It was however learnt that a local traditional healer, headman Nkala dismissed the cleansing ceremony conducted, saying that the traditional leaders are looking to secure the services of “genuine” prophets.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ordered to pay ex wife $734m in Royal divorce case

A London judge has ordered Dubai king,  Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to pay his estranged wife Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein at least 554 million pounds ($734 million) -the UK’s biggest ever divorce settlement.

The settlement concludes a long-running case that has played out in UK courts between Princess Haya Bint al-Hussein, 47, daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan, and her ex-husband, multibillionaire Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum.

During the trial, the court heard details of the immense luxury in which the princess lived before she fled Dubai with her two children, Zayed, 9, and Jalila, 14.

Dubai king ordered to pay estranged wife $734m in royal divorce case

The court also heard Mohammed’s abusive behavior toward his wife and children, which prompted Haya to file for divorce and flee to Britain in 2019, saying that she feared for their lives.

The judge agreed that she faced risks and awarded the bulk of the settlement toward providing a lifetime of security for the princess and her children, including armored cars, cyber-protection, cameras and ballistic safeguards and bodyguards.

In October, a court ruled that Mohammed had used Israeli company NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware to hack the phones of Haya, along with those of the closest members of her inner circle.

The court also heard how Mohammed had abducted and brought back to Dubai two of his daughters, Princesses Latifa and Shamsa. Mohammed allegedly sought to buy a property neighboring one of Haya’s homes and issued threats to her life, including a text message that said, “We can find you anywhere.

The London judge ordered Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to pay Princess Haya Bint al-Hussein 251.5 million pounds within three months to cover security and lost items like jewelery and clothing. He must also make annual payments of around 11 million pounds toward costs for his children while they are in education, which will be secured by a 290 million-pound bank guarantee, the judge ruled. The remaining millions account for backdated sums and a learning fund.

This would provide Princess Haya with a “clean break” from the sheikh following their divorce, Judge Philip Moor said in a ruling published Tuesday, December 22.

Before the ruling another judge found that the Dubai ruler ordered the hacking of phones belonging to Haya and her legal team.

The total amount the sheikh will have to pay to his family is likely to be much higher because of annual security costs he must pay directly to his children after they’ve completed education, according to the Judge.

After the ruling, the sheikh said in a statement that he “has always ensured that his children are provided for.”

Before Tuesday’s decision, the largest publicly known judge-ordered award in a divorce was 450 million pounds to the wife of billionaire Farkhad Akhmedov — though the two settled with a payment of less than one-third of that amount.

Princess Haya said during the case that she was “under siege,” and that the sheikh’s surveillance of her “could not be more intrusive and distressing,” according to the ruling. The only claim for financial provision she made for herself was for security and some lost personal possessions.

As part of the settlement, Judge Moor awarded the family over 5 million pounds a year to spend on vacations, including for flights on private jets. There’s nearly 300,000 pounds annually to cover the upkeep of their horses and other pets and even 39,000 pounds to install two trampolines.

Princess Haya said during the hearing that her reliance on periodical payments would put “incredible additional pressure” on the family because they will “be living always under the shadow of possible litigation.”

The judge acknowledged the “truly opulent and unprecedented standard of living enjoyed by these parties in Dubai” and said he had to reach “a conclusion as to what is reasonable while remembering that the exceptional wealth and remarkable standard of living enjoyed by these children during the marriage takes this case entirely out of the ordinary.”

World’s tallest man, Sultan Kosen, goes to Russia to find the ‘love of his life’

The world’s tallest man has travelled to Russia in a bid to find a new wife who will bear him children.

Sultan Kosen, 39, is a Turkish farmer who had a tumour affecting his pituitary gland that caused him to suffer from gigantism and acromegaly.

Due to his great height, he holds the Guinness World Record for the tallest living man at 8ft 3ins (2.51 metres).

Kosen, who is of Kurdish descent, said he eventually got used to being so tall, but he admits it sometimes causes him some difficulties and discomfort.

He married a 5ft 9ins (1.75 metres) tall Syrian woman named Merve Dibo, 29, in 2013.

In an interview, he said his biggest problem with his ex wife is communication, as he speaks Turkish, whereas his wife only speaks Arabic.

The marriage lasted several years until the couple recently divorced.

Single again, Kosen took a plane to Moscow in search of a new bride in early December.

He said he heard that Russian women possess incredible beauty and a loving soul and decided he wanted a Russian bride to bear him a son and a daughter.

Appearing on the TV show ‘Let Them Speak’ on Monday, Dec. 20, Kosen said: “It should be easy. I can provide well and do not need money.

“I would like to take my wife back to Turkey. I live in a historical place, in the southeast, but quite far from the sea. I heard that Russian women love hot, polite men. It should be easy!”

He added: “A Russian woman in love will adore her man forever.”

It is unclear how long Kosen plans to remain in Russia looking for his next bride.

US Army scientists develop vaccine ‘effective against Omicron and all Covid and SARS variants’

A vaccine believed to be effective against Omicron and all Covid and SARS variants has been developed by scientists at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research is the largest biomedical research facility administered by the US Department of Defence and is located at Maryland. The achievement is the result of almost two years of work on the virus.

This is coming after the army lab received the first DNA sequencing of COVID-19 in early 2020 and decided to work on a vaccine that would fend off not only the present strain, but others too.

The Spike Ferritin Nanoparticle Covid-19 vaccine, or SpFN unlike other vaccines, utilizes a protein shaped like a soccer ball with 24 faces that allows scientists to attach spikes of various coronavirus strains.

Walter Reed’s Spike Ferritin Nanoparticle COVID-19 vaccine completed animal trials earlier this year with positive results. Defense One reported Phase 1 of human trials, which tested the vaccine against Omicron and the other variants, wrapped up this month, again with positive results that are undergoing final review, as confirmed by Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad, Director of Walter Reed’s infectious diseases branch.

Modjarrad said the vaccine’s human trials took longer than expected, because the lab needed to test the vaccine on subjects who had neither been vaccinated nor previously infected with COVID. Increasing vaccination rates and the rapid spread of the Delta and Omicron variants made that difficult.

He said;

“We decided to take a look at the long game rather than just only focusing on the original emergence of SARS, and instead understand that viruses mutate, there will be variants that emerge, future viruses that may emerge in terms of new species.

“Our platform and approach will equip people to be prepared for that.

“With Omicron, there’s no way really to escape this virus. You’re not going to be able to avoid it. So I think pretty soon either the whole world will be vaccinated or have been infected.

“It’s very exciting to get to this point for our entire team and I think for the entire Army as well.”

A Nigerian convicted for fraud targeting elderly victims and Covid-19 relief

A Nigerian man, Oluwaseyi Akinyemi, a/k/a “Paddy Linkin”, a/k/a “Joseph Kadin”, has pleaded guilty to two counts of mail fraud relating to a social media advanced fee fraud scheme that targeted elderly victims.

The 35-year-old who lives at Hyattsville, Maryland listed an At-Home care patient’s address to receive fraudulently obtained unemployment funds and also participated in an Elder Fraud Scheme that scammed 13 victims.

The guilty plea was announced on Monday, December 20, by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron; Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Troy Springer, of the Washington Regional Office, U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General; Special Agent in Charge James R. Mancuso of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore; and Chief Malik Aziz of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

“This office will prosecute anyone misusing this pandemic crisis to line their own pockets. Akinyemi not only took fraudulent advantage of a nursing care patient, a national health crisis, and an employment crisis, but he also caused significant financial harm to 13 elderly victims.” said U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron.

According to his guilty plea, from July 10, 2018 to April 29, 2019, Akinyemi and at least one co-conspirator conspired to engage in a social media based elder fraud scheme. Members of the conspiracy targeted elderly victims on social media platforms, impersonating accounts of the victim’s friends in order to vouch for their fraudulent financial scheme and convince the victim to send money in hopes of receiving a financial reward.

Within the scheme to defraud, the conspiracy members presented themselves as agents of real and fictitious government programs that offered supposed financial benefits to qualifying individuals.

Once the victims demonstrated interest, other members of the conspiracy utilized a new account or persona to represent themselves as an agent of an agency or community fund.

The victim was then instructed to send money in a mail service system to the agency for “taxes and fees.” Believing that they would receive a financial reward, the victims sent cash, money orders, gift cards, and other valuable items through mail services to Akinyemi as well as other members of the conspiracy in order to obtain a financial reward. Akinyemi received packages under the aliases of Paddy Linkin,” “Flex,” “Joseph Kadin,” and “Anna Marcos,” in addition to other aliases. After receiving the fraudulently obtained funds, Akinyemi delivered the fraudulently obtained cash to co-conspirators in Nigeria.

Victim 1, who was 78 years old and lived in Texas, received an application via social media to apply to a purported federal government grant program. The application was accompanied by a message from a person whom Victim 1 believed was a friend, vouching for the program.

Victim 1 was told by members of the conspiracy that he had been approved for $100,000 in grant funds, but that in order to receive the grant funds Victim 1 needed to pay taxes. Victim 1 sent multiple packages of money, including to Akinyemi.  In order to induce Victim 1 to continue to send money, members of the conspiracy sent Victim 1 electronic “certificates.”

One of these certificates was a “Certificate of Completion” bearing the Internal Revenue Service seal, stating that it was from the “Federal and State Tax Institutes.” Victim 1 also received a certificate with a U.S. flag on it with the words “Federal Grants” next to it which included Victim 1’s full name and the text: “Federal Government Grants for the sum of $5,000,000.” After receiving these certificates, Victim 1 continued to send money to Akinyemi and other members of the conspiracy. In total, Victim 1 sent between approximately $70,000 to $80,000 to Akinyemi.

Victim 2, who was 71 years old and lived in Indiana, received a message from someone they believed to be a high school friend regarding a “Strengthening Community Fund.” In reality, a member of the conspiracy was posing as the victim’s high school friend. Ultimately, the conspiracy member told Victim 2 that they received money from the fund in the recent past and that there were different amounts for which a person could apply. The member of the conspiracy then provided Victim 2 with the contact information for a fictitious agent representing the “Fund.”

After Victim 2 contacted and sought information regarding the Fund, a member of the conspiracy masquerading as an agent asked Victim 2 if they were ready to apply.  When Victim 2 communicated their desire to do so, the member of the conspiracy sought biographical information from Victim 2, including their monthly income. Once Victim 2 provided this information, the member of the conspiracy informed Victim 2 that they had been “approved.” Victim 2 applied for $80,000, which Victim 2 believed would cost $800 in fees. Victim 2 then sent approximately $50,000 in fictitious fees and taxes in order to obtain money from the fictitious fund.

Victim 3, who was 69 years old, sent $9,720 to Akinyemi based on instructions from a member of the conspiracy. Victim 3 received a check in the mail for $9,770 that she was instructed to cash.

The victim then deposited the check into her bank account and subsequently sent the funds to Akinyemi’s Landover Residence, as instructed. The check sent to Victim 3 was issued by Company 1 located in Tacoma, Washington. Company 1 was the victim of a fraud scheme that caused several unauthorized fraudulent checks to be generated and issued on behalf of Company 1.

Law enforcement’s subsequent review of Akinyemi’s phone revealed communications of Akinyemi discussing receipt of these funds from Company 1 through Victim 3. The chat conversation contained Akinyemi’s Landover Residence, his alias (“Paddy Linkin”), a mail service tracking number, and a dollar amount. Akinyemi and the co-conspirator also discussed the percentage of the proceeds that Akinyemi would take as part of his participation in the conspiracy.

During an interview with law enforcement on April 15, 2019, Akinyemi confirmed that he had received packages from victims throughout the country, detailed the scheme to defraud, and informed investigators that individuals in Nigeria were responsible for soliciting the victims to send money to him. Further, Akinyemi stated that he received approximately $80,000 in the mail in the year prior to his interview.

As part of the scheme to defraud elder victims, Akinyemi and his co-conspirators defrauded at least 13 victims, caused significant financial hardship to victims, and caused a loss of at least $478,145.07.

In an unrelated scheme, Akinyemi and other co-conspirators illegally obtained unemployment and COVID-19 related benefits by filing fraudulent unemployment claims under the names of living and deceased victims.

Throughout the scheme, Akinyemi and his co-conspirators used his Landover, Maryland residence as the mailing address for the fraudulent unemployment insurance debit cards.  Additionally, the conspiracy listed the home address of a Washington D.C. client whom Akinyemi provided at-home nursing care in order to receive the fraudulently obtained funds in the mail.

As stated in his plea agreement, 10 Maryland Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (“PUA”) claims were filed with the state of Maryland totaling an intended loss of more than $170,000.

As a result of an executed search warrant on April 15, 2021 at Akinyemi’s Hyattsville, Maryland residence, law enforcement found two unemployment insurance debit cards in the names of Victim 24 and Victim 25.  The unemployment insurance claims for Victims 24 and 25 were filed using the address of Akinyemi’s D.C. nursing care client.

In total, Akinyemi and his co-conspirators used the identities of 19 real individuals to file fraudulent unemployment insurance and PUA claims, caused an actual loss of more than $7,000, and projected an intended loss of $250,000 in state and federal benefits.

Akinyemi faces maximum 20 years in federal prison for each count of mail fraud followed by up to three years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang has scheduled sentencing for April 11, 2022 at 11 a.m.

On May 17, 2021, the Attorney General established the COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force to marshal the resources of the Department of Justice in partnership with agencies across government to enhance efforts to combat and prevent pandemic-related fraud.

The Task Force bolsters efforts to investigate and prosecute the most culpable domestic and international criminal actors and assists agencies tasked with administering relief programs to prevent fraud by, among other methods, augmenting and incorporating existing coordination mechanisms, identifying resources and techniques to uncover fraudulent actors and their schemes, and sharing and harnessing information and insights gained from prior enforcement efforts.

Mariah Carey struck another extra-festive milestone on Wednesday December 22, as she celebrated “All I Want for Christmas is You” reaching a whopping 1 billion streams on Spotify.

The modern Christmas classic made a historic return to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for a third consecutive year. Mariah released the song in 1994, where it was number one for that year, and didn’t return to the top of the chart for more than 20 years until 2019.

Celebrating the huge win on Instagram, Carey shared a photo of her with a Spotify Plaque, while wearing Prada’s crystal bucket hat, which retails for $1,990. She paired the statement hat with a silver puffer jacket, black leggings and heeled black boots.

TMZ reported that the singer still pulls in big bucks on licensing and commercial deals for the classic. Sources told the publication that while she’s only making a fraction of a cent every time someone streams “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” the fractions add up to seven figures and counting, considering the popular Xmas track has over 1 billion streams just on Spotify.

A source who manages artists said singers typically make between .003 to .004 cents per single stream and in Mariah’s case, that would work out to between $3,249,600 and $4,332,800 just on Spotify alone and the figure will only grow.

Mariah celebrated the news with her boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka and family in Aspen. She was woken up to the news by her family and 10-year-old daughter, Monroe Cannon, who she shares with her ex-husband Nick Cannon, 41.

Her daughter wrote her a hand written card, congratulating her mom on this amazing achievement. She enjoyed her success with mimosas with Bryan and the rest of her family.

4th Covid-19 wave! Our Isolation centres are beginning to fill up – NCDC DG cries

Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ifedayo Adetifa has raised an alarm of isolation centres getting filled up in some states in the country.

Adetifa who disclosed this in an interview on AIT’s Kakaaki programme on Thursday December 23, also revealed that the Omicron variant is more transmissible than the Delta variant and appears to have a shorter incubation period.

He said;

“It is responsible for the increase that we’re seeing in COVID-19 cases, but it is also important to note that even as that is happening, the existing Delta variant is still persisting. It’s either slowly being replaced or has already been replaced by Omicron.

“In addition to the wave, isolation centres and treatment centres in some of our cities, especially those that typically have the highest burden, are already beginning to fill up.”

On reluctance of Nigerians to get the COVID-19 vaccine, the NCDC DG said;

“We’re allowing transmission to continue in an unmitigated fashion which means that there’s a risk, even with moderate and severe cases, our health care system may get overwhelmed.

“If it’s beginning to look like our health system is about to be overwhelmed, then government may be forced to put in place more stringent measures which may include restrictions on gathering, and even curfews.”

On claims of expired vaccines being administered in the country, Ifedayo said;

“Federal government does not allow the use of expired vaccines.

“We have in place very robust mechanisms to allow us to retrieve vaccines from the system when they’re near expiring.”

Oups! Ooni of Ife’s wife, Prophetess Naomi, announces her marriage to the monarch is over

Sad news coming out of the Palace of the Ooni of Ife is that the marriage of the first class Yoruba monarch to prophetess Naomi is over.

Naomi herself confirmed the news on Instagram and cleared a few things up.

She said she went into the marriage with love in her heart and a willingness to serve.

I did my best to endure and make it work - Ooni of Ife

She said that she did her best to “endure” and “smile through the struggles” but she has now decided to leave her three years marriage.

She said her decision to leave has nothing to do with the fact that the Ooni of Ife is married to another queen.

She also disputed rumours that she had another child, a daughter.

She said the girl is her niece and her son for the king is the only child she’s ever had.

“At this moment, I announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife,” she wrote.

This is not the King’s first marriage to end in a divorce.

Nigeria Govt. introduces digital token to replace the NIN pin

The federal government has introduced virtual national identification number (NIN) tokens.

The digital tokens which comprises of 16 alphabets and numbers, will replace the NIN from January 2022.

Speaking at a stakeholders workshop on the ‘NIN Tokenization Solution’ organised by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja on Wednesday December 22, Minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Pantami NIN tokenisation is aimed at protecting the personal information of citizens.

Pantami said Nigerians can use the virtual NIN when verifying their identity with an agent or enterprise that needs to confirm their identity before offering them a service (banks, airports, shopping delivery, among others).

FG introduces digital token to replace 11-digit NIN

He also noted that virtual NIN tokens are merchant-specific and expire after a set period of time (usually 72 hours). This means that a token generated for company A cannot be used or verified by company B.

Pantami who was represented at the event by Aliyu Aziz, NIMC director-general, said;

“The Federal Government has adopted the solution to ensure the privacy of personally identifiable information of individuals during verification transactions and to reduce incidences of illegal retrieval, usage, transfer, and storage of NIN. Full implementation commences 1st January 2022.

“The NIN Tokenization solution is a feature of the NIN Verification Service (NVS) which is aimed at providing enhanced data protection for the personal information of persons registered into the National Identity Database (NIDB) and issued a NIN.

“The resources for the protection of this sensitive data includes the Improved NIN Slip, USerID, MobileID, NIN hashing and the issuance of a unique virtual NIN by the ID holder to anyone who wishes to verify their identity.

“The purpose of the NIN Tokenization is to provide a coded representation (“pseudonymization”) of the actual NIN for which another party verifying the identity of the registered person cannot retain and use in a way that puts the individual’s data privacy at risk.

“Depending on the use cases, this may be via the hash contained in the Improved NIN Slip, the 2 varying hashes contained in the MobileID application, the UserID (which is available instantly to anyone issued a NIN, irrespective of whether they have a device or not), and of course, the one-time use Virtual NIN token.”

Diddy saves the Sean John brand from bankruptcy

Music mogul and producer, Sean “Diddy” Combs has won the bid to buy back his fashion brand, Sean John.

Diddy won the rights to Sean John for $7.5 million, after a bidding war with 4 other parties. The deal will be finalized this week, barring any objections.

The music producer’s initial bid earlier this month in bankruptcy court was $3.3 million through an acquisition company named SLC Fashion LLC. His position made him the stalking horse which means any other offer on Sean Jean would have to outdo his.

The entertainment mogul, 52, started the streetwear brand back in 1998. Combs reportedly sold 90% of the company in 2016 to Global Brand Groups. At that time Sean Jean’s annual retail sales were around $450 million.  In July 2021, GBG filed for Chapter 11 in New York.

Before the bankruptcy filing by GBG, Diddy’s relationship with them had turned sour. In February 2021, he filed a lawsuit against GBG for $25 million because of alleged “false endorsement, misappropriation of likeness and violating his publicity rights.” The suit has now been reportedly dropped.

Revealing why he bought back the brand, Diddy said;

“I launched Sean John in 1998 with the goal of building a premium brand that shattered tradition and introduced Hip Hop to high-fashion on a global scale.

“Seeing how streetwear has evolved to rewrite the rules of fashion and impact culture across categories, I’m ready to reclaim ownership of the brand, build a team of visionary designers and global partners to write the next chapter of Sean John’s legacy.”

Diddy’s current net worth is around $885 million from his multiple brands and companies that include music, TV production, alcohol, and other beverages.

Israel confirms the offer of the 4th dose of COVID vaccines in response to Omicron

The government of Israel has announced it will offer a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to health workers and people older than 60, amid concern about the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

A Health Ministry expert panel recommended the fourth shot late on Tuesday, December 21, a decision that was swiftly welcomed by Israelj Prime Minister Naftali Bennett as “great news that will help us overcome the Omicron wave that is spreading around the world”.

“The citizens of Israel were the first in the world to receive the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and we are continuing to pioneer with the fourth dose as well,” he said in remarks relayed by his office, calling on those who meet the criteria to “Go and get vaccinated”.

The Israeli Health Ministry said in a statement that immunodeficient people will also be eligible for the fourth shot, which it said can be administered to them, the elderly and the medical teams at least four months after the third shot.

More than 4.1 million Israelis have received three doses of a coronavirus vaccine in the country of roughly 9.3 million people.

The decision comes after Israel recorded the first known death of a patient with the Omicron variant on Tuesday.

An Israeli hospital said he had suffered from a number of serious pre-existing conditions before his death and he was in his 60s.

“His morbidity stemmed mainly from pre-existing sicknesses and not from respiratory infection arising from the coronavirus,” it said.

Israel’s Health Ministry says there were at least 340 known cases of Omicron in the country and has banned travel to and from countries including the United States, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Canada to try to curb the spread of the virus.

Vladimir Putin threatens NATO’s interference in war against Ukraine with war

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has warned he is willing to take ‘military measures’ in response to ‘unfriendly’ Western action in Ukraine.

Giving the warning during a meeting at the defence ministry on Tuesday December 20, Putin said Russia will ‘react toughly to unfriendly steps’ and stressed ‘that we have every right to do so’.

Referring to a Western bid to bolster Ukraine with weapons and military training, the Russian leader said;

“In the event that the clearly aggressive line of our Western colleagues continues, we will take adequate retaliatory military-technical measures, and react toughly to unfriendly steps.

“And, I want to emphasise, we have every right to do so, we have every right to take actions designed to ensure the security and sovereignty of Russia.”

Around 175,000 Russian combat forces are expected to be near Ukraine’s borders by January and pro-Russian separatists are attacking Ukraine troops daily. On the frontline in Donbas, Ukraine, Russian troops have been building up in support of pro-Russian separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk region.

Putin denies any Russian involvement in the region but it is feared he will use the conflict to justify an incursion deeper into Ukraine, threatening to bring war to Europe’s borders.

Dmitry Kiselyov, a media mogul known as Putin’s mouthpiece also threatened to ‘put a gun to America’s head’ if NATO forces are stationed in Ukraine and warned the alliance to back off ‘otherwise, everyone will be turned into radioactive ash.’

Putin who also warned countrues against taking America at its word, added;

‘We need long-term legally binding guarantees.

‘The United States easily withdraws from all international treaties that for one reason or another become uninteresting to them,’ he added.

‘What is going on, this tension that builds up in Europe, it is their fault, At each step Russia had to respond somehow.

‘At each step the situation got worse and worse, degraded and degraded. And today we are in the situation when we need to decide something.’

Russia ‘cannot allow’ the West to put its weapons so close to Moscow, he added. ‘If this infrastructure moves, if the US and NATO missile systems appear in Ukraine, then their flight time to Moscow will be reduced to 7-10 minutes, and with the deployment of hypersonic weapons – to five,’ Putin said.

The Kremlin had also said that high-level talks between the US and Russia are underway over the list of demands, but said no agreements have yet been reached.

The White House has said it will consult with NATO allies over the demands, but it was willing to make no promises.

Asked about those demands by the BBC on Monday December 20, Mr Kiselyov responded: ‘If Ukraine ever joins NATO or if NATO develops military infrastructure there, we will hold a gun to America’s head. We have the military capability.’

Russia is ‘one hundred per cent’ willing to use force to defend its red lines, Mr Kiselyov added, saying that it is a ‘matter of life or death’ for his country.

He also warned of the risk of a repeat of the Cuban Missile Crisis if NATO deploys missiles in regions where they can quickly strike Moscow.  Kiselyov said;

‘It would be good to harmonise our interests and not put Russia in a position where missiles could reach us in four minutes.

‘Russia is ready to create a comparable, analogous threat, by deploying its weapons close to decision-making centres.

‘But we are suggesting a way of avoiding this, of not creating threats. Otherwise, everyone will be turned into radioactive ash.’

Nigerian Govt. declares 27th & 28th December 2021 and January 3rd, 2022 as public holidays

The Federal Government has declared Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th December 2021 and Monday, 3rd January 2022 as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day celebrations respectively.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, felicitates with Christians and all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Ogbeni Aregbesola enjoins Christians to practice the doctrines of Christ, which include but not limited to these – faith, hope and love.

“We must emulate the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on Humility, Service, Compassion, Patience, Peace and Righteousness, that His birth signifies. This will be the best way to portray Christ and celebrate his birth”, he noted.

He emphasizes that peace and security are two critical conditions for economic development and prosperity. He urges Christians and Nigerians to make the best use of this festive period to pray for the total eradication of insecurity bedevilling our dear nation.

Aregbesola strongly charges Nigerians not to be lulled into a false sense of security on COVID-19 pandemic but to note that it is increasingly assuming a very dangerous and harmful dimension with the emergence of a virulent variant, Omicron.

“This calls for deliberate responsibility and discipline on the part of all”, the Minister stresses.

The Minister enjoins all to adhere strictly to and observe all the stipulated non-pharmaceutical protocols and guidelines such as wearing of facemasks, frequent washing of hands with soap and water, using of hand sanitizer and avoidance of large groups. Also, he urges quick report to medical authorities of any respiratory illness observed in self and others before, during and after the Yuletide.

Speaking further, the Minister said this Yuletide calls for spartan discipline in order to prevent the spread of the virus in our community and the nation as a whole. Aregbesola says “Moderately celebrate the festival without large groupings and observe all the protocols stipulated by medical authorities. Take it as a point of personal responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus”.

The Minister also assures that the Government has put in place effective measures for the security of lives and property and expects Nigerians to support the efforts of security agencies by providing useful information that will assist them in the performance of their duties.

Aregbesola admonishes all citizens to remain focused and expresses confidence that the year 2022 would be a better year for us all. He wishes all Christians in particular a happy Christmas and all Nigerians a peaceful and prosperous New Year celebration.

A plane crash survivor had to eat his friends while waiting to be rescue – 49 years ago

A plane crash survivor has recalled having to eat his friends as they waited to be rescued.

It’s almost 49 years to the day the remaining survivors of an Uruguayan rugby team were rescued after their plane crashed into the Andes.

"There was no other option if you wanted to stay alive" Plane crash survivor recalls turning into a cannibal and eating his friends while waiting for rescue

On October 13, 1972, a charter jet carrying the Old Christians Club rugby union team across the Andes mountains crashed, killing 29 of the 45 people on board.

Three crew members and eight passengers died instantly or on the plane’s impact.

Another 18 died over the course of the next 72 days before the survivors were rescued on December 23, 1972.

While waiting to be rescued, the survivors, most of whom lived by the sea in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo and had never seen snow before, struggled with shockingly cold temperatures at night with temperatures dipping to -30C.

They lacked medical supplies, adequate clothes for the freezing weather conditions and equipment or food.

Survivor, Nando Parrado added: “We were starving in earnest, with no hope of finding food, but our hunger soon grew so voracious that we searched anyway.

“Again and again, we scoured the fuselage in search of crumbs and morsels. We tried to eat strips of leather torn from pieces of luggage, though we knew that the chemicals they’d been treated with would do us more harm than good.

“We ripped open seat cushions hoping to find straw but found only inedible upholstery foam.

“Again and again, I came to the same conclusion: unless we wanted to eat the clothes we were wearing, there was nothing here but aluminium, plastic, ice, and rock.”

Survivor, Jose Luis ‘Coche’ Inciarte recalled the heart-wrenching decision to eat the flesh of his dead friends, as he said “there was no other option if you wanted to stay alive”.

Jose Luis Inciarte

He said: “We made a meeting between all and we argued whether to do it or not to do it, not to do it seemed to mean to die, everybody decided to eat.

“When you went to take a piece of flesh, the body of your friend, their frozen body, the hand doesn’t obey and you have to make a great effort of energy and mind to make your arm obey, and then it obeys, not immediately.

“It was the same with opening mouth to put it inside the mouth and swallow.”

Sixty days after the crash, the three strongest were chosen to trek across the mountains in a desperate bid to find help.

Survivors Roberto Canessa, Nando Parrado and Antonio Vizintin trekked for 10 days across the vast mountain range when it became apparent no one was coming to look for them.

The trio set off without any mountaineering gear and only three days worth of supplies on December 12.

The group knew they had to climb their way to safety and over 10 days they climbed about 38 miles.

This forced them to send Vizintin back to the crash site because they were running out of supplies.

Parrado supposedly told his friend Canessa: “We may be walking to our deaths, but I would rather walk to meet my death than wait for it to come to me.”

After walking for several more days, the exhausted pair finally came across more and more signs of human presence, before coming across some Chilean farmers, who helped them and the 14 others waiting at the wreckage.

MicroAge Project: Human muscle cells developed in a lab to make humans live longer

Tiny lab grown human muscle cells will be blasted into space in an experiment that could help people to live longer, healthier lives, scientists have said.

The project titled MicroAge, is funded by UK Space Agency and will cost £1.2million

It will involve the launch of a capsule from Florida to the International Space Station on Wednesday, December 22.

Lab-grown human muscle cells the size of a grain of rice have been put into small containers and once they are in space, they will be electrically stimulated to cause contractions in the muscle tissue, and the scientists will look to see what happens.

Some of the muscles will be electrically stimulated to take part in ‘exercise’, and others will be exposed to increased amounts of protective heat shock proteins – which scientists at the University of Liverpool have previously shown provide protection against age-related muscle wasting.

The experiment will be used to understand what happens to humans as we age and to see if aging can be reversed or slowed down.

Professor Malcolm Jackson of the University of Liverpool said: “Ageing is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st Century and we will learn a great deal about how muscle responds to micro-gravity and ageing from the data we obtain from this study.”

Professor Anne McArdle from the University’s Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences, said: “Identification of the underlying mechanisms responsible for this loss of muscle mass and strength with age has been the subject of our research for a number of years.

“Astronauts in microgravity lose their muscle mass and strength at an accelerated rate compared with older people on earth, providing a unique model to rapidly determine the mechanisms underlying muscle loss not only in astronauts, but with relevance to older people on earth.”

Ethiopian Govt. reclaims World heritage site Lalibela from Tigray rebels

The Ethiopian military has regained control of the historic town of Lalibela from Tigrayan rebels.

Lalibela is a UNESCO world heritage site famous for its rock-hewn churches and sanctuaries which date back to the the 12th and 13th Centuries. It was designated a Unesco world heritage site in 1978.

Fighting broke out in 2020 between government troops and the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) following a massive fall-out over political reforms introduced by Ethiopian prime minister, Abiy Ahmed when he took office in 2018.

In October, Lalibela was captured by TPLF forces as they made advance to the capital Addis Ababa to oust Abiy.

But Abiy has since led a fight back and has now retaken Lalibela from the hands of the rebels.

Ethiopian government reclaims World heritage site Lalibela from control of Tigray rebels

It is unclear when the military retook Lalibela, but Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen Hassen visited the town, in Amhara, on Sunday, December 19.

The government also said its troops had retaken several other towns as well, including Weldiya.

The TPLF has now withdrawn its fighters to its stronghold of Tigray after being forced to abandon its plan to advance on the capital Addis Ababa.

The TPLF said the withdrawals were part of “essential modifications” that it was making, though it did not confirm that it had pulled out of Lalibela and Weldiya.

The TPLF added that it took the decision to clear the way for a peaceful resolution to its conflict with the government.

The war between Ethiopia and the TPLF has caused a massive humanitarian crisis, as efforts by the UN, AU and EU to mediate have so far failed.

Thousands of people have been killed and millions have been left homeless during the war so far.

Nigeria currently undergoing COVID19 4th wave – NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says Nigeria has entered the fourth wave of coronavirus disease following a 500 percent increase in the number of cases in the past two weeks.

The agency announced this in a statement signed by the Director-General, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa on Monday evening, December 20.

The statement read

“Nigeria has recorded a 500% increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past two weeks across the country caused by the Delta and Omicron variants. As of 19th December 2021, a total of 223,887 cases and 2985 deaths have been recorded in Nigeria across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The country is now in a fourth COVID-19 wave. The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, the Federal Ministry of Health, as well as NCDC and its partners, are therefore intensifying risk communication efforts to remind Nigerians of the risk we face and need to take collective responsibility to reduce transmission of the virus.

The response to COVID-19 requires a whole-of-society approach. Therefore, individuals, families and institutions also need to play their part in protecting each other by ensuring adherence to COVID-19 public health and social measures. Critically, Nigerians are urged to adhere to recommended measures by NCDC and other public health authorities, as they celebrate Christmas and New Year.

Please avoid all non-essential travel within and outside Nigeria to reduce the risk of transmission. The virus that causes COVID-19 is more likely to spread in mass gatherings especially when held indoors with full capacity and poor ventilation.

We strongly recommend outdoor events with physical distancing, compulsory use of facemasks, and provision of handwashing facilities or hand sanitisers. Please make use of every opportunity provided to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The government has made these vaccines available for all eligible citizens and booster doses available for those previously vaccinated.

We urge Nigerians to take all precautions necessary to ensure we and our loved ones live to celebrate many more events and festivities.”

Nigerian Govt. digitalises payment for Nigerian Passports

The Federal Government has said it has digitalized payments for the Nigerian Passports and has advised Nigerians to avoid patronizing touts and unscrupulous officials when applying for the documents.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, stated this in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, during the Rollout of the Enhanced e-Passport with Polycarbonate Data Page and other security features on Monday, December 20.

“Part of the reforms is the migration of passport application and payments to digital platforms. But we regret to observe that applicants still patronise touts and unscrupulous officials in the hope to beat the system and get expedited services.

When they were disappointed, they come to report to us. Of course, we have zero tolerance for corruption and subversion of due process. We therefore take seriously any such report and invoke the necessary disciplinary measures.

But I will implore applicants to stop patronising touts and our officials directly. Follow the process we put in place. Apply for passports and pay online. The only engagement with our staff is the enrolment of your biometrics. Patronising touts and passport office officials doesn’t always end well, but rather serves to defeat our purpose of eliminating corruption and infusing integrity to the passport administration process” the minister stated

Speaking on the new application process, the minister noted that a new timeline has been set for fresh passport application and reissue.

“Our template stipulates maximum six weeks for obtaining new passports and maximum three weeks for renewal. We work within this schedule to enable us investigate any claims made by applicants and verify them, for the final document we issue them to have integrity. If there are challenges, wait, eventually you will get your passport before your due date of travel, if you apply early enough. You will still have long enough time to apply for visa and other travel documents.

“Nowhere in the world is passport administration done on wait-and-get basis except in extreme emergencies. The only wait-and-get passport is passport photograph,” the minister stated. On the new enhanced passport being rolled out in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, the minister noted that the passport is an improved document with high security features.

“The Enhanced e-Passport is a great improvement on the Biometric Passport technology which Nigeria adopted in 2007 as a deliberate step towards curbing forgery, impersonation and other forms of travel document fraud associated with the old Machine-Readable Passport regime.

“It is the latest technology in passport making anywhere in the world and only few countries have it. It is the most secure identity document ever produced. We are proud to make it available to Nigerians,” he added

Nigerian reacts as a Catholic church in Abuja celebrates mass using African cultural attire

Reactions have poured in after the St. Lukes Catholic church in Kubwa, Abuja celebrated mass recently using African cultural items.

Young men who followed the priests to the altar were dressed in white singlets with a wrapper tied around their waists with white chalks used to place dots on some parts of their bodies. Some ladies who tied wrappers around their waists and chests and had some beads on their hands, legs, and neck also participated in the mass.

While some Nigerians welcomed the move by the parishioners to celebrate African culture even in the Christian faith, others saw it as unacceptable to ‘mix’ Christianity with the African culture.

Federal Court nullifies APC candidate, Andy Uba’s participation in Anambra governorship election

Participation of All Progressives Congress, Andy Uba in Anambra governorship election last month has been nullified by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Uba’s participation in the election was nullified by Justice Inyang Ekwo who ruled that he emerged from an illegally conducted primary election by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Justice Ekwo in the judgement given on Monday December 20, said the plaintiff, George Moghalu, succeeded in proving that the APC did not conduct a valid primary election from which Uba claimed to have emerged as the party’s candidate.

The judge who ordered INEC to delete Uba from its record as a candidate in the election, also ordered the APC to refund to the plaintiff the N22,500.000 he paid for expression of interest and nomination forms since the party failed to conduct a valid primary.

Niger, Togo and Benin Republic haven’t paid for Nigeria’s power supply since the 2nd quarter of 2021 – NERC

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has said that the Republic of Benin, Niger Republic and Togo made no payment for the electricity supplied to them from Nigeria in the second quarter of 2021.

The NERC in its Second Quarter Report 2021, revealed that the power firms of the three nations and some other special customers were issued a total bill of N770m by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading company and the Market Operator of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, but no payment was made.

Power firms in these neighbouring countries include Societe Nigerienne d’electricite – NIGELEC, in Niger Republic; Societe Beninoise d’Energie Electrique – SBEE, in Benin Republic; and Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo– CEET, in Togo Republic.

The report read;

“During the quarter under review, NBET and MO issued a total of N0.77bn in respect of energy sold by NBET and services rendered by MO to the special (Ajaokuta Steel Co. Ltd and other bilateral customers) and international customers (Societe Nigerienne d’electricite – NIGELEC, Societe Beninoise d’Energie Electrique – SBEE and Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo– CEET).

“No payment was made by these customers during the quarter under review. It is hoped that as the economy of these customers improves post-COVID-19 lockdown so that they will resume the settlement of their bills in full.”

Giving a report on performance of distribution companies in Nigeria with respect to the payment of electricity sold to them by the NBET, NERC revealed that apart from Eko Disco, none of the other Discos met their expected minimum remittance thresholds to NBET in the quarter under review.

The total Disco remittance to NBET was 76 per cent of expected total for the quarter, as the average aggregate remittance performances to MO and NBET decreased by 1.78 percentage points from 51.88 per cent in first quarter 2021 to 50.1 per cent in the second quarter.

The report added;

“During the second quarter of 2021, a total invoice of N259.7bn was issued to the eleven Discos for energy received from the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc and for service charge by MO, out of which a sum of N130.11bn was settled, representing remittance performance of 50.11 per cent.

“This represents a 1.78 percentage point decrease from the final settlement rate recorded in the first quarter of 2021.

“Discos remittance performance level ranged from 10.51 per cent (Yola) to 63.69 per cent (Eko) for NBET and 28.76 per cent (Yola) to 99.88 per cent (Eko) for MO.

“Ikeja recorded zero remittance to MO in the months of May and June 2021 as they wait to resolve Service Level Agreement dispute.”

The commercial performance of the 11 discos which ranges from total billing to and collection from electricity consumers, stood at N268.97bn and N185.29bn respectively during the quarter under review, and the collection efficiency was 68.89 per cent.

It was also revealed that as much as N3.11 out of every N10 worth of energy sold during the second quarter of 2021 remained uncollected from consumers.

NERC said in the report;

“Thus, only a marginal improvement in the collection efficiency is noticeable over the 68.55 per cent recorded in the first quarter 2021.”

‘I have to pay over $11 billion in taxes this year’ – Elon Musk

Elon Musk, the chief executive officer of Tesla Inc., said on Twitter that he’ll pay more than $11 billion in taxes this year, an amount that could constitute a record payment to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

The world’s richest person may face a tax bill of more than $10 billion for 2021 if he exercises all his options due to expire next year, calculations last week by Bloomberg News showed.

Elon Musk says he

The unusually high levy comes after Musk exercised almost 15 million options and sold millions of shares to cover the taxes related to those transactions. That was following a Twitter poll last month when he asked followers whether he should sell 10% of his stake in Tesla, whose shares have rocketed more than 2,300% over the past five years.

A report by ProPublica in June said Musk paid little income tax relative to his outsize wealth. But he’s pushed back against that report, saying he doesn’t draw a salary from either SpaceX or Tesla, and pays an effective tax rate of 53% on stock options he exercises. He added that he expects that tax rate to increase next year.

Last week, Musk said he’ll pay more taxes than any American in history this year. That was in response to another tweet from Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who used Musk’s Time Magazine “Person of the Year” accolade to call him out on his taxes.

Agwai said the process of producing charcoal is harmful to the environment, stressing that it possesses the ability of destroying the climate and increasing global warming.

The Permanent Secretary noted that burning of charcoal, especially, would produce harmful emission capable of affecting health of residents.

He said: “Cutting trees can result in the loss of habitat for animal species, which can harm the ecosystems.

“Almost all the land animals and plants live in forests and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes.”

He warned those selling and using charcoal to desist to avoid prosecution.

This comes as a number of Nigerians resort to cooking with charcoal due to the hike in cooking gas.

Confusion! A two-headed calf is born in Brazil

Farmers and vets have been left baffled after a cow gave birth to a two-headed mutant calf.

The two-headed calf was born on a farm in the Brazilian municipality of Nova Venecia in the state of Espirito Santo on the evening of December 13, and is unable to stand up or feed naturally.

Delci Busatto, the son of the calf’s owner, told local media that the mutant calf lives on the family’s farm and has trouble feeding from its mother and needs to feed from a bottle.

He said: “The calf is very debilitated. It has to lie down and cannot get up. Because it can’t stand up, the calf has to be fed from a bottle.”

Vets confused as

He said the family have sought an expert opinion from a vet, but even they did not seem to know what could have caused the calf to be born with two heads.

Busatto continued: “We have talked to some vets, but no one has any answers as to whether it will survive or not.

“For now, it is just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens.”

Vets confused as

The calf was the cow’s third offspring, and the other two were born normal.

Mutations can be caused by certain mutagenic influences, artificial conditions, and sometimes crossbreeding.

Covid-19 Omicron variant: Christmas travel will fuel spread of Omicron – Dr Fauci warns

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director, Dr. Anthony Fauci has warned that Christmas travel will increase the spread of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, even among the fully vaccinated.

Dr Fauci, who advises the US government on the pandemic, said the variant was now “raging through the world” even as countries are tightening measures to prevent its spread.

“There’s no doubt about this, [Omicron] has an extraordinary capability of spreading this Christmas” Dr Anthony Fauci told NBC’s Meet the Press programme on Sunday, December 19 when asked about Christmas travel.

France and Germany have issued travel restrictions while the Netherlands has imposed a strict lockdown over Christmas.

Scientists say the additional covid-19 booster shot could provide around 85% protection against severe illness.

However, Dr Fauci said the rapid spread of Omicron in the US could have a serious impact on health services across the country.

“Our hospitals, if things look like they’re looking now, are going to be very stressed,” he warned.

“The difference between a vaccinated and boosted person who has an infection, and someone who has an infection who has never been vaccinated – it’s a major difference with regard to the risk of severity,” he said on Sunday December 19.

At a White House press briefing on Friday, Dr Fauci said unvaccinated people were at a much higher risk of serious infection and hospitalisation.

“We are looking over our shoulder at an oncoming Omicron surge,” he said, adding: “The fully vaccinated are doing much better… the optimum protection is fully vaccinated plus a boost.”

Almost 73% of the US population has received at least one Covid vaccination, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). So far, almost 30% have had a booster shot.

The US has recorded more than 50 million cases of coronavirus, and more than 800,000 Covid-related deaths.

About 1,500 motorcycles impounded in the Federal Capital Territory, have been crushed by the Directorate of Road Traffic Services a.k.a Vehicle Inspection Office.

He said;

UK: A man discovers dead baby left in a freezer

A man has described the shocking moment he opened a plastic bag found in a freezer only to see that it contained the remains of a dead newborn baby.

Shop worker Darnell Jackson, 23, ran to the house in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, at some time between 11.30am and midday on Thursday, Dec. 16.

He had been told by his partner Carol Hirst, 28, to go to the house after she had seen the baby.

“I thought she must be telling the truth but I had to go and check for myself,” he told the Mirror.

“Carol said to me, ‘There’s a dead baby’, and that’s when she hung up.”

He said Carol was on the phone to police while he went through the house and saw a plastic bag moved from the freezer to the living room.

“I just literally grabbed the bag to take a look and straight away I could tell it was a dead baby,” he went on.

“The baby was in the foetal position. You could see that the skin was frozen, there was a lot of frost on its legs.”

Carol said she was also “traumatised” by what she had seen and went home to see her own baby.

South Yorkshire Police arrested two women aged 17 and 45 on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the murdered newborn at the house in Norman Crescent in the Rossington area of the town.
