Ride-hailing operators in Lagos state will from August 27, start paying a levy of N20 known as road improvement fund on each trip their drivers make in a day.
The agreement was reached on Friday August 14, after a three-hour meeting between the Lagos state government and e-hailing ride operators.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Gboyega Akosile and titled ‘Lagos govt, e-hailing operators agree on new regulations’, the Lagos state government stated that the new regulations were not initiated by the government to extort the operators and drivers in the business but to regularise the ride-hailing operations in line with security measures.
Lagos state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladehinde further revealed that Governor Sanwo-Olu offered a duty incentive to the operators, reducing their statutory operational licencing fee and renewal fee by 20 per cent.
The statement added;
“This implies that each e-hailing firm will now pay N8m per 1,000 cars fresh licencing and renewal, instead of N10m initially announced.
“We also discussed the issue of service tax, which was initially defined as 10 per cent charge. We have come to resolution that the levy will become a flat fee of N20 per trip. We no longer call it service tax; we now call it Road Improvement Fund, which will be levied per trip.”
It was also learnt that the state government had granted all drivers on the e-hailing platforms an extension of 90 days to perfect all documents and licences required for operation, including driver’s licence and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency cards.
The federal government and Ireland have signed amemorandum of understanding to return €5.5 million looted by Sani Abacha, a former Nigerian Head of State.
Ireland’s minister of justice and equality, Helen McEntee in her statement said it followed an order recently issued by a court in Ireland regarding the funds.
The return of the asset found in a Dublin based bank account will be the first time the European nation has taken such action.
McEntee said;
“I am very pleased to sign this Memorandum of Understanding between Ireland and Nigeria. This represents the culmination of a long process which began with an internationally led investigation.
“The Criminal Assets Bureau took part in this international operation which led to the freezing of over $1 billion in funds worldwide, of which approximately €5.5 million was identified in a Dublin based bank account.
“The return of these assets will be the first time that Ireland has taken such action and will be a concrete demonstration of Ireland’s commitment to international cooperation in the fight against corruption and to assisting countries which have been adversely affected by corruption in the past, and is in line with our international obligations as a signatory to the UN Convention Against Corruption.
“It demonstrates the intent of both States to uphold our shared values and our international obligations to eliminate corruption.”

Ghanaian authorities have explained why they locked up some Nigerian-owned shops in the country amid an ongoing controversy about the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) registration.
Recall LIB reported earlier that the requirement for GIPC registration is $1 million minimum foreign equity, while registration fee is 31,500 cedis.
Reacting to the controversy that has trailed the GIPC registration in an interview with Starr News, Boakye Boateng, the head of communications in the country’s trade ministry said it would be unfair for the Nigerian traders to complain of insensitivity.
He further alleged that the traders were pardoned for over a year following the intervention of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Boateng said;
“It cannot be that we’ve been insensitive. If that is what they’re saying, I’ll be disappointed because I’ll rather say they have rather been unfair to us as a regulatory body because we have given them more time than enough to the extent even the Ghanaians thought that the ministry was not on their side or the ministry wasn’t ready to even enforce law.
“So, it’s very surprising to me for them to say that we’ve not given them enough time. If you recall as far back as December last year, these shops were locked, the president intervened and we asked that the shops be re-opened because the very law that gives GUTA the right to be the sole traders in our market, that same law requires that a certain group of people are those who can go and do law enforcement and not you, so allow us to do our work.
“They complied, the shops were opened. Since then we have given them an opportunity to regularise the document and submit it to us for verification, that has not been done. Now, this exercise started from Abossey-Okai on Monday. Because we have never been to Abossey-Okai for this exercise, when we went there we did not just start locking shops. We went there, we inspected the shops and we gave them notices that in 14-days they should ensure that all their necessary documentations be complete. These people have been served notices for over a year now.”

Bishop David Oyedepo has criticized the application of the Company and Allied Matters Acts (CAMA) in churches, following its signing into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 7, 2020.
The law which permits the registrar-general of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and a supervising minister to strictly supervise religious bodies and charity organisations, also gives the commission power to suspend the trustees of an association or a religious body and appoint an interim manager or managers to coordinate its affairs where it reasonably believes that there has been any misconduct or mismanagement, or where the affairs of the association are being run fraudulently or where it is necessary or desirable for the purpose of public interest.
In his sermon on Sunday August 16, the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide who questioned the rationality behind subjecting churches to same laws as companies, averred that such laws were borne out of government’s jealousy about the prosperity recorded by the church.
Oyedepo maintained that the law will not work out in the church as he also criticized the election of old politicians into political offices.
He said;
“The church is God’s heritage on earth. Molest the wife of somebody and you will see the anger of that person. The church is the bride of Christ. You know how a strong man is when you tamper with his wife. The church is the body of Christ. We are under obligation to give warnings to wicked rulers so we could be free from their blood.
“The church works on the pattern delivered by God not the pattern of man. Government has no power to appoint people over churches. This is a secular nation. The church is the greatest asset of God in this country. Please be warned. Judgment is coming. The Lord says I have been still but now I will arise. Anybody that is in this deal is taking poison. This will never work. I am waiting for a day when anybody will appoint a trustee over this church… You can’t gag anybody. We own this country together.
“It is only in Africa that people who are over 80 years still run around to become president. I know that it is the prosperity of the church that is making them jealous. But I am going to live to see an army of many winners soar greater. In this church shall emerge one of the largest concentration of giants on earth.”

The 27-year-old singer made this known while discussing her personal life in an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alexandra Cooper, revealing her first sexual experience was a threesome with two girls.

Shortly before the eviction show this evening, Big Brother issued a stern warning to all the housemates over the various clashes that almost turned violent. He summoned them to the lounge and played video clips of some of them quarreling and almost going physical.
He asked Nengi, Kaisha, Erica, Lucy, and Wathoni to stand up and addressed them. He told them to resolve their outstanding issues and control their tempers as physical violence is prohibited in the house.
He specifically issued Kaisha and Nengi a final warning for violating Paragraph 1 of Article 18of the rule book which is dedicated to prohibited behaviour. It states that Big Brother is a game that encourages individual expression. However, there are types of behavior that will not, under any circumstances, be tolerated in the Big Brother House. Both ladies clashed in the house yesterday August 15.
Big Brother also extended the final warning to the other housemates.
The female housemates have at various times clashed, hurling insults at each other and almost going physical.
Hollywood Actor, Brad Pitt has fired back at ex-wife Angelina Jolie after she filed a request earlier this week to remove Judge John W. Ouderkirk from their almost four-year-long divorce battle.
The former couple who first split in 2016 after 12-years together and six children, Maddox, 19, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 14, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12 are facing a custody battle in their divorce drama.
Angelina, 45, filed papers on August 7 claiming that Judge Ouderkirk who married the former couple at their French estate Château Miraval in 2014 -failed to disclose other ‘business relationships’ he had with Pitt’s lawyers, suggesting that he would be ‘biased’ during their divorce case.
Jolie alleged in her filing that Ouderkirk ‘failed to make timely mandatory disclosures of ongoing business and professional relationships between himself’ and Pitt’s legal team.
She added in her request that she was ‘never afforded the opportunity to even raise a concern or to object to the ever-increasing business relationships between Judge Ouderkirk and [Pitt’s] counsel — relationships that were providing a steady stream of income to Judge Ouderkirk and the potential for future work.’
‘These are precisely the type of repeat customer circumstances that create doubts about a privately-compensated private judge’s ability to remain impartial.’
But Pitt, 56, according to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE magazine, has responded in papers filed on Thursday, August 13, calling Jolie’s filing a ‘Hail Mary’ – an American Football reference to deliberately delay a game .
In the legal documents, Pitt’s legal team accuses the actress of making a ‘transparently tactical gambit’ to delay matters, adding that it will be their own children who are ‘hurt most’ by the hold up.
The documents say Jolie’s request is ‘a thinly-veiled attempt by Jolie to delay the adjudication of long-pending custody issues in this case.’
According to Pitt’s lawyers, Jolie had been made fully aware that Ouderkirk had accepted ‘additional new engagements’ involving the actor’s team, and that she had ‘never objected’ to Ouderkirk’s ‘continued involvement’ in the proceedings until now.
In Pitt’s response, he also pointed out three times where Jolie and her lawyers are said to have asked to extend Ouderkirk’s appointment to their ongoing divorce case.
The documents add that Pitt is concerned about how the divorce delays will affect their children:
‘Unfortunately, the individuals hurt most by Jolie’s transparently tactical gambit are the parties’ own children, who continue to be deprived of a final resolution to these custody issues
Jolie’s lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, responded to Pitt’s filing in a statement to PEOPLE saying: ‘It is unfortunate that Mr. Pitt’s team has sought to intervene ahead of Judge Ouderkirk’s response.’
‘One can only conclude that this is an attempt to obstruct or influence Judge Ouderkirk’s answer. Any delay in these proceedings is due to their zealous attempt to create an unrecognized special exception for their client’s benefit.’
The report adds that a source close to Pitt’s team claim that it was Jolie’s team who actually knew the judge first, and that ‘the only excuse for their filing is that her team knew they were likely to lose and they needed to stall by changing the referee in the fourth quarter.’

Big brother Naija lockdown housemate, Kaisha has been evicted from the house.
Neo, TrikyTee, Kaisha, and Wathoni were the four contestants with the least votes from viewers last week. As usual, other housemates were asked to nominate two housemates for possible eviction.
After the housemates casted their votes, Ebuka announced Kaisha as the next housemate to be evicted from the house. He thereafter announced that Neo, Wathoni and TrikyTee were safe.
Kaisha in her interview with Ebuka, said she wasn’t surprised the other housemates voted for her eviction because she knows they don’t like her.
She said she liked Neo when she first saw him and might pursue ‘something’ with him after the show.

A schoolgirl who claimed a ten-year-old boy was the father of her unborn child has given birth to a baby girl.
Darya Sudnishnikova was 13 years old when she became famous in Russia after insisting that she was made pregnant by her 10-year-old boyfriend, Ivan.
Darya even went on prime-time TV earlier this year claiming Ivan was the father and Ivan backed up her story.
Darya later said she had been raped in her hometown Zheleznogorsk by a boy aged 16. She claimed she said Ivan was the father because she was too embarrassed to admit to the rape.
Ivan, now 11, chose to stand by her and he remains her “boyfriend”.
Darya announced today on Instagram that she has welcomed a daughter after going through a “tough” delivery.
The girl had to travel to Krasnoyarsk in Siberia to find doctors who will accept her, she said last week.
She wrote on Instagram: “That’s it, I gave birth to a girl at 10 am. It was tough, I’ll tell you everything later, I’m having a rest now.”
Police are still investigating the alleged rape case and are expected to take a DNA sample from the newborn girl to find out if the 16-year-old boy is the father.
Meanwhile, Ivan wants to remain in the life of Darya and her child. Not long before giving birth, Darya revealed that Ivan stays over at her house sometimes and may take over fatherhood of her child when he’s 16.

Robert S. Trump, the younger brother of US President Donald Trump, died on Saturday night, August 15, in Manhattan.
He died at the New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in Lennox Hill. He was 71.
His death was announced by The White House but they did not give a cause.
Reacting to Robert’s death, Donald Trump said in a statement: “He was not just my brother, he was my best friend.
“He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”
Robert Trump, who took blood thinners, had experienced brain bleeds which began after a recent fall, according to a family friend.
President Trump went to Manhattan on Friday, August 14, to see his brother at the hospital.
“I have a wonderful brother,” the president said on Friday at a White House news conference before departing to visit him. “We’ve had a great relationship for a long time, from Day 1.”
The two had in fact been estranged for years before Donald Trump’s run for the White House.
On Saturday, when Robert Trump was not expected to live much longer, the president called the hospital from his Bedminster, N.J., golf club, New York Times reports. He shortly held a news conference but did not mention his brother’s health. Friends who spoke to him said he was downcast.
Robert Trump had no children, but he helped raise Christopher Hollister Trump-Retchin, the son of his first wife, Blaine Trump, even giving him his last name.
Robert is survived by his second wife, Ann Marie Pallan, his brother, Donald Trump, and his sisters, Maryanne Trump Barry and Elizabeth Trump Grau. His brother Fred Jr. died in 1981.

A video making rounds on social media shows the moment residents of Ikota Housing estate in Ajah, Lagos state, converged for prayers over the faulty transformer in their area.
A Twitter user @Kay_Tylor who posted the video online, revealed that Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) officials have brought four different transformers to their area and the four have gone bad, throwing them into perpetual darkness.
This prompted the residents to converge to pray against the principalities and powers causing the transformers to go bad all the time

The Enugu State government has demolished the house of an architect, John Jerry Emejulu, who had earlier demolished part of the Enugu Airport fence, claiming ownership of a portion of the land.
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Thursday, said Mr Emejulu, accompanied by hundreds of armed thugs and bulldozers, had demolished up to 2km of the Enugu airport fence before the Nigerian Air Force and Police intervened to arrest the situation.
“This is certainly unfortunate, unbecoming,” Sirika said during a visit to the airport on Thursday.“ Emejulu has done his best.
But in doing his best, he has given the opportunity to government to show how not to wilfully destroy public assets belonging to 200 million people. It’s totally unacceptable.”
Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has inaugurated indigenous security network code-named “Operation Amotekun”.
Akeredolu headed the inauguration ceremony of the “Ondo State Security Network Agency” which took placed Yesterday, August 11, 2020.
This is coming several months after the bill setting up the security outlet was passed into law by the state House of Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Akeredolu assured that with a workable synergy among the leadership of the security agencies and that of Amotekun, a water-tight strategy capable of arresting crimes even before they occur would be deployed.
Akeredolu who reassured people of the state that the forthcoming election in the state would be very peaceful in the ceremony in which no fewer than 192 recruited members of the corps were inaugurated, stated that community policing became necessary to curb all forms of insecurity in the state.
In his words… “It was so horrible that marauders laid siege to the highways as well as in the farmlands waiting to kidnap or devour anyone in sight. With the launch of the Amotekun, we resolved that it shall be no retreat, no surrender. We are not going to be intimidated or blackmailed.
“It is incontrovertible that the existing security framework is being overstretched and we had to devise a means of confronting the challenge of insecurity head-on. That was when the concept of Amotekun came up. As Yorubas, we are not known to surrender to our adversaries and if our forebears did not, we should not.
“On 4th March, this year, just two months after the launch of Amotekun in Ibadan, the Bill setting up the Corps was signed into law, after diligent and thorough work by the State House of Assembly. The import of this is that the Amotekun Corps is now a legal entity, not just the idea of an individual.
“I am saying it again, that my ambition is not worth the insecurities that our people are confronted with, where at some point, people were afraid of travelling out of the state.”

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigerian youths to take over the leadership of the country from the older generation, who are currently in power.
According to The Nation, Obasanjo spoke on Wednesday while delivering a keynote address at a virtual interactive session with youths to mark this year’s International Youth Day.
The programme was organised by the Youth Development Centre, an arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Oke – Mosan, Abeokuta.

Lebanese Ambassador to Nigeria Houssam Diab on Friday August 14, stated that most Nigerian girls in Lebanon were not trafficked but entered the country legally.
Diab who said this during a visit to the Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama in Abuja, further stated that the Nigerian ladies who recently cried out for help from Lebanon did so because they could no longer be paid by their employees as a result of the recent economic downturn.
He added that the suspension of the issuance of visas to domestic workers since May had also contributed to the situation.
The Ambassador said;
“As of May 1, the Lebanese government has stopped issuing visas for domestic workers coming from Nigeria.
“This will definitely stop any new cases from arising; they will not be able to get into Lebanon, the specificity for the issue at Lebanon is that all these girls are entering into Lebanon legally.
“There is no human trafficking illegally into Lebanon.
“About 90 per cent of the agencies involved in it are Nigerian agencies and they apply through Lebanese agencies in Lebanon through the security general to acquire work visas and work permits for the ladies.
“This is how it is; so by stopping the issuing of the visas, we would have stopped new cases from arising.”
Diab further disclosed that the Lebanese government and the Nigerian government has successfully evacuated 500 Nigerian ladies from Lebanon with 200 more to be evacuated soonest. The Ambassador added that there are about 5,000 Nigerians living in Lebanon, and majority of them are gainfully employed.
Speaking during the meeting, Geoffrey Onyeama said the evacuation process has shown the strong bilateral relations between the two countries in spite of the recent explosion in Lebanon.
The minister added that the temporary ban on visa issuance, will give Nigeria time to review the whole situation and to ensure that we get our labour laws in place.

The Kano state police command have released the photo of the man who locked up and starved his biological son, Ahmed Aminu, 30, for seven years in Kano State.
A statement from the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, said Aminu who is a resident of Farawa Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government area of Kano State, locked up his son inside his car garage (solitary confinement) within his house for about seven (7) years without proper feeding and health care.
Haruna in the statement said good samaritans reported the incidence leading to the rescue of the victim at about 11:15 pm on Thursday night August 13. DSP Haruna said upon investigation, the father confessed to having locked up Ahmed who is looking emaciated and dehydrated for three years and on allegation of indulgence in suspected Drug-Abuse.
The statement reads
“The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform members of the general public that on the 13/08/2020 at about 2315hrs, information received revealed that one *Aminu Farawa* ‘m’ of Farawa Quarters, Kumbotso LGA Kano State locked up his biological son, one *Ahmed Aminu* ‘m’ 30 years old of the same address inside his car garage within his house for about seven (7) years without proper feeding and health care.
Team of Operation Puff-Adder was raised and immediately swung into action. The victim was rescued and rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital Kano and admitted.
The father was arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the father confessed to having locked-up the victim for three (3) years on allegation of suspected Drug-Abuse. Those that reported the incident said he (the father) locked him up for 7yrs, however, the father confessed 3yrs.”
Haruna said the Command’s Commissioner of Police CP Habu A. Sani, psc ordered the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for discreet investigations.
The Supreme Court in Angola has handed a five-year jail sentence to Jose Filomeno dos Santos, the son of the country’s former president, for $500m fraud.
The 42-year-old was accused of trying to embezzle up to $1.5bn from the sovereign wealth fund, which he oversaw from 2013 to 2018.
He was later charged with stealing $500m from the fund and transferring it to a bank account in Switzerland.
His father, José Eduardo dos Santos, led the country for 38 years. He was president from 1979 until he resigned in 2017, and was replaced by his former defence minister, Joao Lourenço.
On Friday August 14, judge Joao da Cruz Pitra jailed Jose Filomeno dos Santos, also known as Zenu, for five years.
“For the crime of fraud … and for the crime of peddling influence … the legal cumulus condemns him to a single sentence of five years in prison,” judge Joao da Cruz Pitra said.
Three co-defendants, including the former governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Valter Filipe da Silva, were sentenced to between four and six years in prison for fraud, embezzlement and influence peddling.
Zenu is the first member of the former presidential family to be prosecuted as part of an anti-corruption campaign led by President Joao Lourenco, who came to power in 2017.
Back in February, Angolan investigators froze the assets of Zenu’s billionaire half-sister, Isabel dos Santos.
She is being probed for a long list of crimes in Angola, including mismanagement, embezzlement, and money laundering during her stewardship of the state-run oil giant, Sonangol.

What the placeholders do is control how the information for the post or page will be presented. So, for example, everywhere we use the %%sitename%% variable, the name of your website that you specified in the general WordPress settings will be displayed.
Similarly, any time we use %%title%%, the title of the post or page will be displayed. The variables are useful for things like titles since they’re different for every page.

Leave “Style sitemap” enabled if you want the page styled if someone views the sitemap in a web browser.
Leave “Automatically update my sitemap” enabled in the “Automatic sitemap updates” section.
If you are using a different method to generate and manage sitemaps, click the “DEACTIVATE” button. Deactivating sitemaps removes all of the options we discussed here.
SmartCrawl Advanced Tools
In the left column navigation, mouse over the “SmartCrawl” link and click the “Advanced Tools” link.
The most interesting thing here is “Automatic Links,” but the feature isn’t available in the free version of the plugin.
The “URL Redirection” section lets you set up 301 redirects for pages that have moved to a new URL. I wouldn’t advise using a plugin like this to manage redirects.
The “Moz” section connects the plugin to your Moz account. A handy feature, but if you have a Moz account, you probably aren’t’ reading this. But by all means, check out Moz and sign up for a free account over there. There is much to be learned from the data it can provide.
SmartCrawl General Settings
In the left column navigation, mouse over the “SmartCrawl” link and click the “Settings” link.
Most of these settings can be left as they are by default. If you use another SEO analysis tool like Yoast, disable “Readability Analysis” in the “Builtin modules” section.
In the “Search Engines” section, you can add verification links from Google and Bing if you haven’t already done that as part of your site setup and launch.
No need to change anything in the “User Roles” section.
The “Import / Export” section is used to transfer all the settings you’ve changed to a new installation, or to import settings from another SEO plugin like Yoast.

It’s not the end of the SEO road by any means, but it’s a good start, and infinitely better than most of us could do without the plugin. Search engine optimization is one of those subjects that is difficult to master because the playing field is continually changing.
But keep yourself reasonably up to date with what’s going on, and check back into SmartCrawl from time to time to make adjustments. It may help you stay ahead of the pack.

The Kano State Police Command have rescued a 32-year-old man, Ahmad Aliyu who was allegedly locked up by his father and stepmother for seven years in Farawa Babban Layi, Mariri Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
According to report, Aliyu spent days without food and water and drank his urine. He was allegedly locked up by his parents on the suspicion that he had started smoking and getting involved in drug consumption.
Aliyu was rescued after a concerned neighbor alerted the police in Farawa and Human Rights Network, who came to rescue him.
When the police and the human rights group arrived, the stepmother insisted that Ahmad was not at home, which forced the team to break down places in the house in search of him.
The police thereafter arrested the man and his wife and took away their victim.
According to its Labour Force Statistics report released on Monday, the number of unemployed Nigerians went from 20.93 in 2018 to 21.76 million in the second quarter of 2020.
This means more than 17 million Nigerians have become unemployed since December 2014, while the total working age population has grown by almost the same number in those six years.
For the first time in the history of the revised NBS unemployment reports, the number of people in the labour force willing to work dropped.
There are now at least 10 million people in the labour force unwilling to work, according to NBS.
A man has been jailed for life for stabbing his father to death in an argument over their broadband speed connection.
Stephen Gallagher, 55, attacked 76-year-old Thomas multiple times with a knife, telling him to “die” as he pleaded for his life, Swansea Crown Court heard on Monday August 10.
The incident occurred on September 10, 2019, in their home in Cwmbran, South Wales.
Thomas Gallagher had walked away from his son during the wifi row which sparked the ‘intense attack’, according to Prosecutor Mark Wyeth QC.
Gallagher said: ‘He irritates me when he ignores me during an argument. He walked away and slammed the door so I rushed upstairs and grabbed the knife.
Stephen Gallagher grabbed the phone away from his father Thomas, smashed the phone on the floor, and stabbed him more than a dozen times.
‘I entered the room grabbed the phone off of him, smashed it on the floor and stabbed him.’
He stabbed his father in the chest, neck, back, and hands during the chilling attack.
Gallagher then called 999 and confessed what had taken place to the phone operator, and went into “some detail”, prosecutor Mark Wyeth told the court.
“He stated that his father was indeed dead in the lounge. He stated his father had asked him to leave and he hadn’t wanted to leave,” he said.
“There is collateral evidence that referred to Mr Gallagher’s difficulties with drinking in the past and there had been a history of hostility by him towards his father.”

The 55-year-old also admitted that while he was stabbing his father he shouted ‘die’ at him.
He told police: ‘I could see he was in pain and he said ‘Steve’ – I wanted to finish him off stabbed him again and told him to die.’
Mr. Wyeth said: ‘Such was the intensity of this attack Mr Gallagher was not able to defend himself and there was no evidence of defensive injuries.’
The court heard moments after the attack a postwoman arrived at their home with a delivery.
Mr. Wyeth said: ‘A postal worker attended at the premises, her name was Michelle Slater. She noticed nothing out of the ordinary about the defendant’s demeanour. She described him as calm and said she could smell aftershave.
‘She did not know Mr Gallagher senior’s body was a short distance away from her at that point.
‘That was within half an hour of the killing.’
Paul Lewis QC, defending, said: ‘It is beyond comprehension that what started as an argument over such a trivial matter as the internet provider at their home could result in this tragic murder.
‘There was an argument between father and son. What began as a trivial argument led to the defendant go to his bedroom and retrieving the knife.’
Judge Paul Thomas QC said: ‘You killed him because he was asking you to leave his house following a row about broadband speed and connection.
‘Instead of walking away you went to your bedroom and took a lock knife. You brought that downstairs to where he was with one intention which you used to stab him to death.
‘You attacked him repeatedly with that knife and you did so with such savagery and without any semblance of mercy towards him.’
Sentencing him at Swansea Crown Court, the judge handed him a life sentence with a minimum of 13 years and four months and said he would not be eligible to be considered for release until 2033.
“As you know, you may, in fact, never be released,” he added.
Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his running mate for the US 2020 presidential elections.
Biden’s campaign announced on Tuesday August 11 that the former California attorney general Harris will be his vice-presidential pick, making her the first Black and South Asian American woman to run on a major political party’s presidential ticket.
Harris, 55, who is more than 20 years younger than Biden, is a former prosecutor and has been a senator from California since 2017.
Biden’s decision gives Harris a big advantage in 2024, if Biden were elected president in November and decides not to run for a second term.
“I need someone working alongside me who is smart, tough, and ready to lead. Kamala is that person,” Biden announced in a statement Tuesday.
“I need someone who understands the pain that so many people in our nation are suffering. Whether they’ve lost their job, their business, a loved one to this virus. This president says he “doesn’t want to be distracted by it”. He doesn’t understand that taking care of the people of this nation — all the people — isn’t a distraction — it’s the job. Kamala understands that.”
“I need someone who understands that we are in a battle for the soul of this nation. And that if we’re going to get through these crises — we need to come together and unite for a better America. Kamala gets that.”

Apple CEO, Tim Cook has become a billionaire after the Cupertino-based iPhone maker broke all previous records to become the world’s most valued company at over $1.84 trillion.
According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the net worth of Cook has eclipsed $1-billion mark, officially making him a billionaire.
“Cook owns 847,969 shares directly and took home more than $125 million last year as part of his pay package,” reports the BBC.
The milestone comes 9-years after Tim Cook took over from Steve Jobs, who died in October 2011.
Last week, Apple surpassed Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco to become the world’s most valuable company.
The massive earnings helped Apple shares closed up 10.47 percent to become the world’s most valuable publicly-traded company, surpassing the largest oil producer in the world.
Apple is now closing in on the milestone of being the first company to be valued at $2 trillion. Back in 2018, Apple was also the first US company to cross the $1-trillion mark.
However, Cook still has a long way to meet up with other CEOs on the Bloomberg Billionaires’ list, like Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos ($187 billion), former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates ($121 billion) and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg ($102 billion).
Muhammad Babandede, the comptroller-general of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said that they will be reciprocating travel bans and restrictions on Nigeria by any country.
The Immigration CG who said this in reaction to the inclusion of Nigeria by the US to its list of countries with visa restrictions, told TheSignature50 magazine that Nigeria also has the right to dictate who it allows in or restricts entry from.
Babandede said;
“I can tell you that US is a country, it is a nation like Nigeria. They have the right to restrict who will enter their territory or not just like we can restrict US citizen or whomsoever from entering Nigeria.
“So they have the right, but I want people to know that Visa restriction is not a Visa ban, it is a ban for people who want to take residency not people who want to go for short visits.
“You are aware that President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR just launched a new visa policy for Nigeria, the visa policy has 79 classes of visa. So, we will be in a position to say to countries, if you allow us for short visits we will allow you for short visits and if you stop us from other visits, we do the same, because the new visa policy is based on reciprocity.
“So, we will test this for a year and see those who reciprocate and we take actions for those who do otherwise.”
On his achievements so far since being appointed head of the NIS, Babandede said;
“When I came on board, I was really ashamed to find Immigration office, especially commands been kept in federal secretariat, we are law enforcement agency, we ought not to be in a Federal Secretariat. So i made a commitment to myself that every year, I want to commission two new buildings – commands.
“And we have developed a model for each command. I am glad to say that 2017, we did two – Kano and Jigawa, 2018 we did two – Plateau and Abia, and 2019 we did three – we commissioned Adamawa, Zamfara and Uyo.
“This year 2020, God’s willing we will commission around five or eight, depending on the availability of fund.”
