US President, Donald Trump and former first lady, Michelle Obama are the most admired man and woman of 2020, according to a new Gallup poll.
In a tumultuous year in which Trump was impeached, widely criticized for his administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and racial tensions, and lost reelection, it is no mean feat for him.
It’s the first time Trump has topped the list alone, ending a 12-year run by his predecessor, Barack Obama, with whom he tied for the most admired man in 2019.
For Michelle Obama, it’s her third straight year as the most admired woman in America.
Barack Obama came in second among men at 15%. US President-elect Joe Biden came in third with 6% of and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the US’ top infectious disease expert, came in fourth with 3%.
Pope Francis, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Bill Gates were also among the most admired men on the list.
48% of Republicans voted Trump while Obama was the top choice among Democrats with 32% and Biden received 13% among Democrats.
Trump and Obama were split among Independents with 11%.
For most admired woman, Michelle Obama received 10% of votes. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris followed behind with 6% and first lady Melania Trump came in third place with 4%.
Melania Trump came in second to Michelle Obama in 2019 and has been among the top 10 most admired women the past four years, but had never come first.
Hillary Clinton, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Queen Elizabeth II were also among the most admired women.
Trump’s win reflects his enduring popularity among Republicans.
Gallup noted that few Republicans named anyone else besides the President.
The poll was conducted by telephone from December 1-17 among a random sample of 1,018 adults.
A California nurse has tested positive for COVID-19 just eight days after receiving the vaccination.
ER nurse Matthew W., received the Pfizer vaccine on December 18, and took to his Instagram page to share a picture of the certificate he got after taking the vaccine.
‘Got my Covid vaccine! The 15 minutes afterward sitting around with a bunch of others while health care workers asked us how we felt made me think of an opium den. I’ll report back if I start to grow a third arm,’ Matthew wrote.
On Christmas Eve, Matthew, who works at two different hospitals in San Diego, began feeling unwell after working a shift in the COVID-19 unit. He told ABC 10 News that he first got the chills before coming down with muscle aches and fatigue.
After he went for a test for COVID-19 on December 26, the result came back positive, Daily Mail reports.
Speaking on the diagnosis, Dr. Christian Ramers, an infectious disease specialist with Family Health Centers of San Diego, said : ‘It’s not unexpected at all. If you work through the numbers, this is exactly what we’d expect to happen if someone was exposed.’
Ramers said it is possible that Matthew was infected before receiving the vaccine.
He also said that he’s aware of other cases where health care workers became infected around the time they received the vaccine.
‘That first dose we think gives you somewhere around 50%, and you need that second dose to get up to 95%,’ Ramers added.
According to Mail Online, regulators of the Pfizer vaccine have found that the best immunity against coronavirus comes seven days after the second dose, which is given three weeks after the first, meaning there is a possibility that someone who had received the vaccine could still contract the virus within that time frame.
All patients need two doses of the vaccine to achieve immunity, the publication added.
US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has received Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine live on television a week after President-elect, Joe Biden got vaccinated.
Kamala, 56, who appeared very relaxed, received the injection at United Medical Center in Washington DC on Tuesday, December 29.
‘OK, let’s do it,’ she said, as registered nurse Patricia Cummings of the United Medical Center readied the needle. ‘That was easy. Thank you. I barely felt it. I barely felt it.’
Afterward, she encouraged people to get the vaccine to save their lives.
Harris said: ‘I want to encourage everyone to get the vaccine. It’s relatively painless. …It’s about saving your life, the life of your family members and the life of your community… ‘I trust the scientists. And it is the scientists who created and approved the vaccine.’
The Defence Headquarters has said that many insurgents were killed after the Nigerian Air Force conducted airstrikes on Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
DHQ spokesman, Maj. Gen. John Enenche in a statement titled ‘Air Task Force destroys hideout, neutralises several terrorists in Sambisa Forest, Borno State’, said the NAF jets bombed “the ‘S’ region in the heart of the Sambisa Forest” on Monday December 28.
He added that the air interdiction missions carried out by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole have continued to deal decisive blows on the terrorist elements in the North-East.
The statement read;
“The NAF attack aircraft engaged the target area in successive passes, leading to the destruction of some of their structures and logistics stores, including a suspected anti-aircraft gun station as the terrorists fired at the NAF aircraft. Several insurgents were also neutralised in the process.”
Russian police have arrested an ultraconservative defrocked priest known as Father Sergiy who allegedly told followers to kill themselves, disobey social distancing and face mask orders.
Fr Sergiy was detained in a raid in the early hours of Tuesday, December 29, after clashes between police and his followers which lasted about an hour.
He was arrested during a raid on a women’s monastery known as Sredneuralsk convent near Yekaterinburg, that he had taken control of.
The former priest took over the convent in June after the Russian Orthodox Church banned him from preaching, and refused to leave.
The controversial cleric was barred from preaching in April and then stripped of the right to wear a cross in May after he encouraged the faithful to disobey public health orders.
Speaking to hundreds of his church members,he has denied the existence of the coronavirus pandemic and encourages minors to kill themselves, according to reports.
Russian authorities shut churches to worshippers between April and June, prompting Fr Sergiy to accuse them of co-operating with “forerunners of the Antichrist”.
During his arrest, several people received minor injuries including three nuns.
Later Fr Sergiy’s supporters posted a video message in which he said that he was OK.
“Forgive them, Lord, for they know not what they do, and even if they do, forgive them anyway,” Sergiy reportedly said as he was arrested.
The charge sheet against Fr Sergiy, published in local news website Ura.ru, says that he “publicly urged no fewer than 10 nuns” to take their own lives and posted a recording of his speech on YouTube.
During the sermon he is seen asking his congregation, which includes children, whether they are ready to “go to the cross” for Russia, their children and their future.
The clergyman was a former policeman, and spent 13 years in a prison colony for murder. He was released in the late 1990s.
Father Sergiy has made numerous controversial claims in the past, including suggesting the Antichrist would soon rise in Russia as a counterpart to President Vladimir Putin. He has criticised laws he disagrees with, including those banning domestic violence and anti-Semitic sermons.

North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un’s younger sister, Kim yo Jong, is quickly rising in prominence in North Korea to such an extent that she has been tipped as a possible rival to lead the country, according to a new report.
She recently hit back at rumours she was dead, and is seen as a key figure in the communist country’s regime, second only to her brother Kim Jong Un.
According to a new report by SUN UK, Yo-jong is said to be “ready to become the world’s first female dictator in modern history” following a series of shocking statements.
Read the report below.
In 2014, Yo-jong was named First Deputy Director of the Workers Party’s Propaganda and Agitation Department.
Since then, she has enjoyed a speedy rise to power after first emerging alongside her brother on the world stage during his summits with Donald Trump in 2018, following her international debut at the at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in Korea in February that year.
Sources inside North Korea have claimed Kim Yo-jong is attempting to secure her power within the regime by taking on the South.
Her tyrannical brother is said to want to ensure she has enough support to take over as a type of queen regent – should he die before his 12-year-old son comes of age.
Yo-jong reportedly needs to win some “revolutionary achievements” to get the support in North Korea’s highly traditional ruling class.
In June, Yo-jong hit out at South Korea after allegedly being behind the demolition of a highly symbolic liaison office.
Pyongyang blew up the building in the border town of Kaesong as part of a brazenly staged slap to Seoul’s face after the South spent millions refurbishing it in 2018.
It had been opened to symbolise a new future of peace and cooperation between the feuding nations, which have remained technically at war since 1950.
Kim’s sister is believed to be the mastermind behind the renewed aggressive approach to their traditionally hated neighbour.
Then after months of silence, mystery over her whereabouts lead to speculation she has been purged by her brother — who is famed for executing rivals.
It came as rumours gathered pace that Kim Jong-un was in a coma and power was about to pass to her.
But Yo-jong recently resurfaced to warn the South Korean Foreign Minister that she will “pay dearly” for her “reckless remarks” about North Korea, after claims the dictatorship had no Covid cases was questioned.
Yo-jong told Kang Kyung-wha her comments could “further chill the frozen relations between the north and south of Korea”.
Yo-jong is widely acknowledged as the leader of the Organisation and Guidance Department, a mysterious agency that watches the ongoings of the government, the ruling party and top levels of the army.
In her position as first vice director of the OGD, she has the authority to exact penalties ranging from exile to minor posts in the countryside to imprisonment and death.
A US judge has denied a $28.5m bail package to Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged pedophile collaborator, saying the British socialite might flee.
The proposed bail package included $22.5m posted by Maxwell and her husband, as well as home confinement with electronic monitoring and 24-hour guard to ensure Maxwell remained safe and would not escape.
US District Judge Alison Nathan in Manhattan said federal prosecutors persuaded her that Maxwell “poses a flight risk” despite her high $28.5m bail package, and should remain jailed because “no conditions of release” reasonably assured she would appear in court.
Maxwell, 59, has pleaded not guilty to helping Epstein recruit and groom girls as young as 14 years old for sex in the mid-1990s.
Maxwell faces up to 35 years in prison if convicted. Her trial is scheduled for July 12, 2021.
Her former boyfriend, Epstein, 66, killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
She also pled not guilty to perjury for denying her involvement while under oath.
Following her July 2 arrest at her New Hampshire home, where prosecutors said she was hiding out, she was jailed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Maxwell’s lawyers wrote in Manhattan federal court filings that prosecutors were “entirely mistaken” and relying on “unsupported innuendo” in their attempt to dismiss the significance of Ghislaine Maxwell’s marriage.
Surprisingly, her husband’s name was redacted in court papers, up until.now no one really knew about her marriage or it’s details.
Maxwell said she wanted to stay in New York, while her lawyers objected to jail conditions including invasive searches and surveillance by flashlight-toting guards who woke her every 15 minutes to ensure she was still breathing.
But Judge Nathan, who rejected a $5m bail package for Maxwell in July, said none of the new arguments had a “material bearing” on whether Maxwell was a flight risk.
But prosecutors cited Maxwell’s abilities to hide her wealth and evade capture.
They also cited the prospect that she might flee to France or the United Kingdom, where she holds citizenships and they said she might elude extradition.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that a “super gonorrhea” is spreading fast due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The agency says the disease is spreading due to actual antibiotic overuse for those infected with the novel coronavirus.
The agency also states the sexually transmitted infection (STI) may become even more resistant to the recommended treatments like azithromycin, which typically is used for chest and sinus infections. Azithromycin has seen an increase in usage during the pandemic.
“Such a situation can fuel the emergence of resistance in gonorrhea including gonorrhea superbug (super gonorrhea) or gonorrhea with high-level resistance to current antibiotics recommended to treat it,” a WHO spokesperson told British media outlet The Sun.
The new strain does not respond to the normal first-line treatments, making it even more dangerous and uncomfortable for those infected, according to the report.
Doctors and medical experts have long warned of the possibility that “superbugs” that are antibiotic-resistant could become more commonplace, and this is one example of such a thing happening.
The Agency also explained that the new strain is exploding is because most people aren’t going to the hospital unless they come down with COVID-19 symptoms. Instead, they’re self-medicating, a WHO spokesperson told The Sun, adding that the “super gonorrhea” is extremely resistant to antibiotics.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said cases of gonorrhea, which is caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae, have increased 63 percent since 2014.
The US agency has also warned that this could “facilitate transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).” Not only this, it can also cause eye infections.
US President-elect, Joe Biden has accused the Trump administration of “irresponsibility” for failing to give his team the information it needs for the transition of power.
He said his team had encountered “obstruction from the political leadership” when it enquired for necessary information from the Department of Defence.
Biden, who has been certified by the Electoral College as the winner of the November 2020 election, also claimed that agencies critical to US security have suffered “enormous damage” under Donald Trump.
Biden takes office on 20 January but Trump has refused to concede and for weeks after the election, Biden was blocked from receiving key intelligence briefings, an essential routine during a presidential transition.
Trump then finally agreed to allow the formal transition process last month, receiving praise from Biden .
But following a briefing from Biden’s National Security Team late Monday night, December 28, Biden has now changed his tone towards the transition process.
In a statement which he posted on Twitter, Mr Biden said his team was facing “roadblocks” in the defence department and the Office of Management and Budget.
“Right now, we just aren’t getting all the information that we need from the outgoing administration in key national security areas,” he said.
“It’s nothing short, in my view, of irresponsibility.”
Biden added that his team needed a “clear picture of our force posture around the world” and that US adversaries could exploit any confusion that resulted.
Biden described key security agencies as having been “hollowed out” in personnel, capacity and in morale.
“The policy processes have atrophied or have been sidelined,” he added.
After Biden’s remarks, Acting Defence Secretary Christopher Miller said officials had been “working with the utmost professionalism to support transition activities”.
“The Department of Defense has conducted 164 interviews with over 400 officials and provided over 5,000 pages of documents – far more than initially requested by Biden’s transition team,” he said

A Nigerian tourism expert identified as Chiamaka Obuekwe, took to her Twitter handle today to share some of the lessons she learnt from her over a year old marriage that has packed up.
Chiamaka revealed that she had her traditional wedding in December 2017 and her white wedding in January 2018. She said by February of 2019, her marriage to a man whom she dated for four years, had ended.
She enumerated some of the lessons she learnt in her short-lived marriage.
Read her tweets below
”I woke up this morning & Google photos reminded me that it was my traditional wedding on this day, 3 years ago & as some of you may or may not know, I am no longer married & unashamedly so. Today I am going to share a bit about marriage from what I experienced & learnt.
Firstly, a disclaimer – I am not a marriage counsellor, therapist nor do I know much. I am only sharing from experience. So, my marriage lasted for about a year or a little over. Trad was in Dec 2017, white in January 2018 and the marriage ended in February 2019.
Let me tell you the truth guys, marriage can be beautiful. At least I experienced its beauty though briefly. Also marriage has nothing to do with how long you date. We dated for almost 4 years, so that’s long enough. But lots of signs were ignored.
So I’ll be sharing 7 major lessons I learnt from my marital failure (which I actually don’t see as a failure because I gained peace, restored joy, confidence and more). Let’s go
Lesson 1 – Don’t ignore the signs. The truth is there are always signs there. Marriage only escalates the issues. If he or she were a particular way before the marriage, it would only get worse afterwards. The problem is that a lot of people (including me) are blindly in love so we ignore the signs. We believe the person would change after marriage. But brethren, people hardly change. If the person is lazy, stingy, unforgiving or unkind before marriage, these things would only become worse after marriage. So be wise & do not ignore the signs.
Lesson 2 – Don’t fight to win as an individual but as a team. Hmm this one. Please remember that you’re a team when you become married and fights & disagreements are inevitable, but don’t fight to be the winner in any disgreement. Your partner is not the enemy. Win together.
Lesson 3 – Communication is key. This one, I’m sure you’ve heard & you’re probably tired of hearing but it is sooo true. Talk about everything with your partner, I mean everything. Talk about things as random as the weather and as deep as your sex life, your aspirations & dreams
Lesson 4 – Discuss your expectations and desires before marriage. This is closely related to communication. You need to be sure of yourself as a person and clear about your expectations & desires in marriage. You need to talk about things as important as kids if you want them, you need to talk about your sex life, about cooking, home care, finances & so much more. A lot of people go into marriage without discussing these things. If these were discussed, a lot of couples would even know that they have different expectations & should not be together.
Lesson 5 – Don’t go to bed angry. This is also something you’ve heard a lot. I mean this literally and otherwise. Don’t let anger fester & grow in your relationship. To be honest, this is what broke us. Don’t let the small issues turn into big issues. Don’t sweat the small stuff
Lesson 6 – Marriage takes responsibility and maturity. This is something I am still learning; infact a lot of us are. A lot of people don’t know the responsibility it takes to be in a relationship or marriage. It’s not all fun & games. It is a very serious commitment. Marriage is not child’s play. So take your time, grow, learn, travel, be exposed, read, ask questions, go to counselling, all before getting married. It is not something to be rushed into. Do not let anyone, especially society pressure or rush you into getting married.
Lesson 7 – Your partner is not perfect. Learn to accept your partner with their flaws and all. You are meant to grow together. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t heal from past trauma or that you should be a shitty person & be waiting for someone to come and save you. However, no one is perfect so learn to accept your partner. If you desire to become better at anything, work on it together. That helps you even grow closer. An example is if you desire to live a healthier lifestyle, you guys can work out together and all. That’s romantic sef.
So these are my 7 lessons. I hope you’ve learnt something or at least been reminded of something you’ve learnt before. But of course I have bonus points – Your happpiness, joy, peace and mental health come first, so always put yourself first. Be confident in yourself. Be your own person; don’t let the marriage stop you from being who you are. Have your own interests, friends and goals. Heal from past trauma. Selah
Bonus bonus point about shame of marital failure – My dearest people, there’s nothing to be ashamed of. Shame is only but a social construct created by society. Na marriage end, you no kill person. You are smart & amazing & beautiful things lie ahead for you. You matter. You rock
So there you go. Happy 3rd not-tradiversary to me. Thank you guys for reading. Love and light always”
The Monday night clash between Everton and Manchester City has been postponed after five members of Pep Guardiola’s squad tested positive for coronavirus.
The news comes after defender Kyle Walker, striker Gabriel Jesus and two City staff members returned positive tests.
According to reports, the virus has now spread within City’s squad, meaning their game against high-flying Everton at Goodison Park will now no longer take place on Monday with Sunday’s fixture against Chelsea now in doubt.
A Premier League statement read: ‘Manchester City’s fixture at Everton, due to be played at 8pm this evening, has been postponed following a Premier League Board meeting.
‘Manchester City lodged a request with the Premier League today to rearrange the game following an increase in positive COVID-19 test results received by the club this morning, on top of the cases reported on Christmas Day.
‘This rise has created uncertainty and the Premier League Board received medical advice that the match should be postponed. The Board agreed to rearrange the game as a precaution, and further testing will now take place tomorrow.
‘The decision has been taken with the health of players and staff the priority.
‘The Premier League continues to have full confidence in its protocols and rules, and the way in which all clubs are implementing them.
‘The League wishes those with COVID-19 a safe and speedy recovery and will rearrange the postponed fixture against Everton in due course.’
A special-education teacher from Oklahoma has been charged with second-degree rape for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student.
Andee Lantz ,26, was working at Carnegie Public Schools in Oklahoma when she allegedly began a relationship with a 16-year-old student. She later resigned in mid-November amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
According to court documents cited by News9, the case began unfolding on November 16, when Carnegie Schools Superintendent Eric Smith contacted the local police, saying that Lantz was involved in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student at the local high school.
Smith said the allegations against Lantz came to light after the student began circulating a nude photo of the teacher around the school.
When questioned about the image during a court appearance in Caddo County court last Wednesday, both the boy and Lantz initially ‘denied any knowledge of the photo,’ but the teacher later allegedly admitted to engaging in an inappropriate relationship with the teen.
‘She said on one occasion she was riding around with [the student] and he leaned in [and] kissed her and that “it went from there,”‘ according to the documents.
Lantz’s first encounter with the teen allegedly took place after a homecoming game where the teen “leaned in and kissed her, and it went from there.”
The 26-year-old special-education teacher also admitted to having sex two or three times with the minor, according to the court papers.
At least one of the trysts was said to have taken place at Lantz’s home in Carnegie.
The superintendent noted that the student was not in any of Lantz’s classes.
‘It makes me sick to my stomach,’ said local parent Susan Clark.
According to Clark, the inappropriate relationship started to get attention when a nude photo of Lantz began circulating the school.
Clarks’ children said the former educator was the “talk of the town.”
“In the beginning, I didn’t know if it was a rumor,” Clark said. “I called a couple of other moms, and they said it was true.”
“A teacher should not be hanging out with a high school student, period,” Clark said. “I don’t think this type of behavior should be tolerated, whether from a male or female teacher.”
The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Justice has banned the marriage of persons under 18 years. It also set 18 years as the minimum age for marriage.
The Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Sheikh Walid Al-Samaani, issued the new directive in a circular sent to all the courts in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Child marriages are commonplace in Saudi Arabia with one in seven girls marrying before the age of 18.
According to the Justice Ministry ruling, any teenager below the age of 18 will from now on be referred to specialized courts that will assess whether they can get married or not.
These courts’ job is to study each child marriage case to confirm that the future spouse who’s under 18 years old, boy or girl, will not be harmed as a result of this wedding and that this union will be of the best interest to the youngster.
This new decision follows an earlier law that was revealed in January of this year and which bans the marriage of children under 15 years old. Prior to the latter, Saudi Arabia did not have a minimum legal age for marriage.
A Chinese court has sentenced a journalist who reported from Wuhan, the city in which the Covid-19 pandemic started, to four years in jail on charges of “picking fights and provoking trouble,” one of her lawyers said.
The Pudong New Area People’s Court in the financial hub of Shanghai sentenced Zhang Zhan following accusations she spread false information, gave interviews to foreign media, disrupted public order and “maliciously manipulated” the outbreak.
Zhang, a former lawyer, arrived in Wuhan in early February from her home in Shanghai and posted on various social media platforms about the outbreak that is believed to have emerged in the central Chinese city late last year.
Zhang was detained in May and accused of spreading false information, giving interviews to foreign media, disrupting social order and attacking the government.
On Monday, December 28, she was convicted on charges of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble,” Zhang’s lawyer, Zhang Keke told NBC News on Monday.
Zhang did not speak or show any reaction to the court decision, her lawyer said, adding that she did not answer when asked if she wanted to appeal her sentence.
Before the sentencing hearing, Zhang said his client went “on long-term hunger strike” in detention and was being force-fed.
He said Zhang suffered from dizziness and headaches, and was “physically fragile.”
“When I met her days ago, her hands were tied to the waist and a nasogastric tube was inserted in her nose,” he said, adding that his client has not pleaded guilty.
“She has a strong will,” Zhang said.
Over the months, China has been accused of covering up the initial outbreak and delaying its response, allowing the virus to spread globally, a claim Beijing denied, saying it acted swiftly to stop the virus, which has now claimed nearly 1.8 million lives around the world.
Lin Qi, chairman and CEO of the Chinese entertainment company Yoozoo Group and a producer on Netflix’s upcoming series The Three-Body Problem, has died after he was allegedly poisoned by a co-worker amid fights among his company’s executives’
His company, Yoozoo Group confirmed that Lin died on Christmas Day after having been hospitalized about a week earlier. He was 39.
Police in Shanghai are currently investigating his death, and have reportedly arrested a suspect only named Xu, who Chinese media outlets have identified as Lin’s colleague at Yoozoo, Xu Yao.
Local reports also allege that a dispute among Yoozoo executives led to Lin’s death after he was allegdlly poisoned via aged pu’er tea.
The China Economic Weekly, a magazine with ties to the People’s Daily, mouthpiece of the ruling Communist Party, said that Xu is suspected of having poisoned Lin due to “work disputes” that resulted in the former’s salary being cut. He may have administered the poison via medication, it added.
A doctor surnamed Zhou who attended to Lin was cited by other outlets as saying the executive had eaten blueberries the day he fell ill, but it remains unclear whether they were a source of poison.
Zhou speculated that based on his symptoms, Lin may have encountered a neurotoxin like the deadly tetrodotoxin found in pufferfish. Two other outlets said he may have been hit with a cocktail of different poisons.
Shanghai-headquartered, Shenzhen-listed Yoozoo said in a statement that it had received notice of Lin’s passing via his family.
“The board of directors gives its highest respects to the chairman for his contributions to the firm,” it said, adding that Yoozoo executives and employees felt “deep grief and mourning, and send their sincere condolences to the family.”
Lin, who founded Yoozoo in 2009, helped steer its successful transition from producing online games to mobile games. He was an executive producer on Netflix’s forthcoming adaptation of The Three-Body Problem along with Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
A 75-year-old man from Northern Israel died of a heart attack about two hours after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, December 28, the Health Ministry has confirmed.
The man had pre-existing conditions and had suffered from heart attacks in the past, the ministry said.
Chezy Levy, the Health Ministry director-general has launched an investigation into the incident.
The man received the vaccine at 8:30 in the morning, at a Clalit clinic, and waited at the facility for a short period of time before he was released to his home feeling well.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the man lost consciousness and was later confirmed dead from heart failure.
Levy noted that the initial findings do not show a link between the man’s death and his vaccination.
The Health Ministry said, “A 75-year-old man from the north of the country suffering from active heart disease and malignant disease, who has undergone a number of heart attacks, was vaccinated this morning against the coronavirus and died at home shortly after the procedure.”
“The Director-General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Hezi Levy, has appointed a case investigation committee headed by the head of the Safety and Quality Division in the Ministry of Health.
“We share in the family’s grief,” the ministry said, adding that “Initial examination does not show a link between the unfortunate incident and the vaccination.”
“The vaccination campaign continues,” it stated.
Israel has vaccinated approximately 380,000 people so far with the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
The American actress has been released from prison after completing her sentence for her involvement in the nationwide college admissions cheating scandal.
The Fuller House actress, 56, began her time behind bars in October at the Northern California facility FCI-Dublin. Her sentencing still includes two years of supervised release, as well as 100 hours of community service. Loughlin was ordered to pay a $150,000 fine, which she has completed.
As of Monday, December, 28, inmate records revealed that she has been released.
“Lori Loughlin has [been] released from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Dublin in Dublin, California on December 28, 2020,” prison spokesperson Sally Swarts tells Yahoo Entertainment. “She is no longer in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons. For privacy, safety and security reasons, we cannot discuss release plans for any inmate.”
Loughlin’s husband, Mossimo Giannulli, was also involved with alleged ring leader William “Rick” Singer. The fashion designer is currently serving his five months in prison and is scheduled to get out in April 2021. He, too, has already paid his $250,000 fine.
At her sentencing in August, Loughlin told the judge, “I ignored my intuition and allowed myself to be swayed from my moral compass. I thought I was acting out of love for my children but in reality it only underlined and diminished my daughters’ abilities and accomplishments.”
She added, “More broadly and more importantly, I now understand that my decision helped exacerbate existing inequalities in society generally and the higher education system more specifically.”
US President, Donald Trump, has signed into law a coronavirus relief and spending package bill, averting a partial government shutdown that would have started today, December 28, had he not signed by Sunday midnight.
Trump had initially refused to sign the bill which was to pay citizens $600, saying he wanted to give people bigger one-off payments.
The delay meant that millions of Americans temporarily lost unemployment benefits.
The relief package signed by Trump worth $900bn (£665bn) was approved by Congress after months of negotiation and is part of a $2.3tn spending package that includes $1.4tn for normal federal government spending.
The bill includes a payment of $600 to Americans earning less than $75,000 a year.
Trump said he was signing the bill with “a strong message that makes clear to Congress that wasteful items need to be removed”.
US President-elect Joe Biden had warned of “devastating consequences” if Mr Trump continued to refuse to sign.
Biden described Mr Trump’s refusal to sign the bill as an “abdication of responsibility”.
“It is the day after Christmas, and millions of families don’t know if they’ll be able to make ends meet because of President Donald Trump’s refusal to sign an economic relief bill approved by Congress with an overwhelming and bipartisan majority,” Biden said.
Trump leaves office on 20 January after losing November’s election to Mr Biden, although he has refused to admit defeat.
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he won’t force his 10-year-old son, Cristiano Jr, to follow him and make a career in football as long as he becomes the best in the world in any other profession he decides to pursue.
Cristiano Ronaldo was named Player of the Century at Globe Soccer Awards on Sunday, December 27, and spoke about his 10-year-old son Cristiano Junior at the ceremony.
Cristiano Junior, 10, plays in the Juventus academy but Ronaldo said his son doesn’t necessarily have to become a footballer even though he does get irritated when his son drinks coke and eats crisps.
‘We’ll see if my son will become a great footballer,’ Ronaldo said.
‘Sometimes he drinks coke and eats crisps and it irritates me, he knows that.
‘Sometimes I tell my son to take a dip in cold water to recover after a run on the treadmill and he says: ‘Dad, it’s so cold there’. That’s fine, he is only 10 years old.
‘I always tell him that it takes work and dedication to have success. I won’t pressure him to become a footballer but I would like it.
‘The most important thing is to become the best in his field, whether it is football or medicine.
Ohirenua Giwa-Amu, the Nigerian lady who publicly called out her popular pastor dad, Femi Giwa-Amu for allegedly repeatedly raping her when she was 7-years-old has committed suicide.
Ohirenua’s death was confirmed by her friends who penned down their tribute to her on social media.
Her uncle, Ozolua Giwa-Amu who confirmed her death in a Facebook post wrote;

Ohirenua had called out her father 3 months ago for repeatedly raping her when she was 7-years-old. She wrote at that time;
A “short” open letter to a certain
Mr OBAFEMI EHIMIGBAI GIWA-AMU:
I know that you are a child molester, your numerous victims outnumber you and I remember everything now. All I have to say to you is this:
You, your rings of pedophiles, bullies, thieves, hired cronies and family gang can do whatever you like in eternum. You already do so, and my belief in karma is strong enough to know that you have already begun the processes that will eventually be your own downfall. But lately, I got triggered again into remembering details about certain threats against me and my siblings you often made against our lives if I was ever to become successful and return to Nigeria after daring to come forward with my truth. I already did that. I had the nervous breakdown in 2018 when the truth about your various exploits and smuggling schemes finally came back to me in a big, horrible way.
So, take note; if really you want to live long enough to indeed be the old dog turning tired tricks that you already are, you would be advised to start covering your pedophile tracks more efficiently. We both know you won’t; that is how your specific and vile pathology works. I only feel sorry for the countless women and men who consciously or unconsciously allowed you access into their lives, homes, children and businesses over the decades of your horrific schemes. I wished that I could make you a better man when I was little and had no choice engaging in the things I eventually believed normal because of you. Not because you even deserve the simple joy of being a good person, but because this already wicked world never needed the vile stench of a soul like yours to walk it and the day you breathe last on it, will be a purer tomorrow.
All of that is fact, already known widely and in private, but after having to watch helplessly before while you took various jobs, titles and high positions that allowed you, smuggle and steal, trick innocent parents into sending their children places with you when really you know anything you did for money was always a reluctant business front you used to scout more victims, sophisticated scams and channels to perpetuate more crimes across international borders…. after watching you do all that and still manage to get away, living scot free off whatever femme du jour, I must admit it’s too hard to stay quiet again as an adult. Most people already know the thieving facts about you, but many more fools searching for quick easy money will always be happy to associate with a crook like you. So at this point, I just have to make a necessary, painful but awkward and public announcement for people in respectable society to understand that you should perhaps be discouraged from being such a homicidal thieving pervert, or maybe at least not be able to ask their kids to sit in your lap casually anymore.
People make strange choices indeed; I have never understood the adults in my life who had power to create positive change over certain situations and just simply never did. Some lack courage, some lack intuition, maybe others simply believe this is how the world works and don’t bother trying to fight anymore. Thankfully, the world has beaten, pissed on and shot me down enough (starting with a father like you) it has become a source of pride, joy, excitement, happiness and even vindictive pleasure for me to help make it a safer place, even just a little, by putting my feminist money where my mouth is and outing your miserable depraved self to the world and whomever might be concerned with this message.
To people associated with us both who try and guilt me into forgiving you, I sincerely hope they find either the healing or direction to understand why it is they feel personally incensed to police the tone and actions of a former child sex slave, or why they are willing to stick their necks out for a continuously harmful sexually offensive perpetrator who is wanted in several states across the world.
His current piggybank/wife has vulnerable & unwell children, and built him a makeshift church with a budding congregation over which he presided as pastor and held sermons. Some others have whispered of his political aspirations of seeking glory in the footsteps of his father who was once an attorney-general of the old mid-west states of Nigeria. So, sentiments and forgiveness aside, the man is still doing the things that nearly ruined my life, to others. And that alone makes me sick to my stomach. Someone needs to stop this madness before it affects a child you know, you knew or once trusted him with. Several of my nursery, primary school, and secondary school friends in Nigeria at some point or the other always had to eventually tell me they couldn’t come to my house anymore because my dad was “becoming a problem.”
It has to stop. I did my part in stopping this man from continuing to thrive amongst the chaos and disorderly nature of Nigerian living, both as a child and now as an adult. I have spent enough years cracking my brain over this and wondering what to do ever since I first noticed and wondered why my father always seemed to lick his lips while hungrily staring at any light-skinned children he spotted in Nigeria, as though he was about to eat a sandwich. I went through hell telling several adults who ignored, punished and dismissed me about this, to the point that I finally just dissociated and forgot a lot of this even happened until fairly recently. Whenever I remembered what he did to me as a child and attempted to tell anyone, and whenever he put me through his molestations, what followed was always an intense beating that always caused me to pass out and wake up feeling incredibly confused. It was a horrible, long process.
I do not ever seek out or ask for any informational updates about this man & his whereabouts as I do not associate with pedophilia in any format, and simply do not care to endanger my newly reclaimed safety by knowing him. Occasionally someone unwitting might think to use the concept of my child predator father to mock, insult or shame me. Source of shame that he is, I have no more guilt or anger towards myself and others who knew better, about this. Going through it all was the hardest part, but it took me many fractured years to piece myself together bit by bit, one PTSD flashback at a time, and it was a lifetime before I could look myself in the mirror and feel like I fully saw my own face. Entire chunks of my memory were once lost and taken from me, entire friendships and interests and hobbies and goals I had just vanished and might still not fully ever come back. Instead I carried around such intense feelings of shame, regret and self-loathing disgust that it consumed me most times. Good or bad, traumatic or not, those memories of mine that hurt me and triggered me for so long have finally woken me up and reminded me that I promised myself if I survived you, escaped, and somehow found enough sanity to be willing to return home that I would never set foot in Nigeria unless I had publicly acknowledged the fact that you continually raped me as a seven year old child until I had a possible prepubescent miscarry and almost died of sepsis. I wasn’t even in Primary 4 yet.
I want you to know that my new, fulfilled and much happier family is made up of the abandoned projects you neither truly cared for as a husband nor father, and we were the only ones who loved you so blindly enough that while you destroyed us everyday on the inside, your kids only ever wanted to make you proud. The awful, scary truth is that we would have stuck by you through anything till the end of whatever this “family experiment” was for you, and could have helped you learn a better conscience and ways to take care of yourself. Instead, you freed us with your selfish departure and really, that is the one thing I can honestly say I will never stop thanking you for. You being a selfish piece of shit is eventually always going to be the best thing that happens to the people around you, because you will always plan to leave them when it suits you to change “sleeves”, as you once called me.
One day though, you will run out of the means and channels to find new victims, and I want to hope that you remember not to be audacious enough to attempt manipulating any of your old discarded hostages into taking care of you. Most certainly not me. If you don’t want to suffer, my advice to you is that you either start saving some scammy bucks for old age, or you just find a private place where nobody else will be bothered & kill yourself. I can’t speak for my siblings, but me sha, I know old age is creeping on you around the corner and even if you mistakenly happened to tap any more heroin from your mother’s ass to call me one day and ask for help? I will personally ensure you kick the very first bucket that comes your way.
Let me be clear, for summary and support: you do not exist. We do not speak of you. Your name has been changed mentally so that even in casual conversation we reference you as Jack or John or something, I forget. You need to know that what you did to me, your family, siblings, and all the poor people you took advantage of literally broke your father’s heart when he found out. What you were doing to me and the poor people of apapa & ebute metta he trusted you to care for, not to smuggle, rape and pillage, devastated my poor Gramps. It deeply disappointed him; he fell so sick that he never recovered and I finally remember why you never wanted me to tell anybody how & when you found out that my grandfather was sick. You killed him, plundered his estates to sell my birthrights away and ensure your siblings would have to suffer.
But as we very well have seen, the truth endures. And now the truth about you has been shared freely, the entire world now is free and able to make educated decisions about associating with you. I know I wouldn’t, because I don’t. And no matter how many times you call me to threaten me, or beg through fake tears that you are sorry for everything you and your brother did to me, I am going to spend the rest of my life sticking to my truth and spreading the gospel of your horrible lifelong misdeeds. You can kill me tomorrow, the way you hired killers to track down & kill my mother for surviving the years of mental warfare and trauma you put her through including your messy stint in America (when you fled from Atlanta to Nigeria hiding from the FBI who are still hoping to catch you for the crimes of your drugs smuggling and child sex trafficking ring all over the entire state).
You could even succeed in ending me and it still wouldn’t matter because now, it’s actually worth it for me to die knowing I did for myself as an adult what I needed someone to do for me as a child, and to have survived here now. Nigerians might be an ignorant, unhelpful and irritatingly enabling lot when it comes to listening to children over the messy adults in their lives, but we are also a very very VERY nosy lot. Even if it’s just for the gist, people will certainly have lots of inconvenient, nasty lingering questions about my disappearance if it occurs too swiftly after sharing this truth, especially in a country like ours where everybody knows you have henchmen & cronies on speed dial. By all means please, make me a martyr, I’ve enjoyed my time here and will go in peace. Just in case your sorry, loathsome, dimwitted, tiny egg balloon dick having self still is unfortunately dumb enough to spite your own soul and seek me out, pray you don’t find me. If you do? Better turn heel and flee like it’s the FBI approaching. Because it just might be.
A Nigerian couple, Dr. Mike and Dr. Modupe Obiora have welcomed a set of twins after 27 years of marriage without a child.
The dedication of the twins, a boy and a girl, was held at the World Alive Church in Calabar, Cross River State on Sunday, December 13.
Speaking at the dedication, the new University of Calabar graduate thanked God for wiping away her tears. She also thanked her husband and his family as well as her own family and all those who prayed for them during the 27 years of waiting.
“I want to thank God because he is God indeed. He is the God that does not wear wristwatch. With Him, there is no time, no season, When people have written your case off, when doctors said it is not possible, God of possibility will show on the screen, He will show up in your case and that is what he did for me. Most of you know my case but Thank God it is a past tense now,” she said.
“We held on to the word of God, we held on to Faith, we held on to the Blood of the Convenant and he did not fail us. I thank God for everyone that God has used in prayers. Some people know how to introduce you to herbalists, juju people but the people that surrounded me, all we know is prayers.,”
“Everyone that prayed we are seeing the result of that prayer. God did not do one but double. God wiped wiped away my tears, my secret tears. He put laughter in my mouth. All my questions…why why why, why me, he answered them,”
“I want to thank God for my husband’s family. If you marry into a devilish family they will carry you to so many places. My mother-in-law and sisters-in-law are always praying for me. There is no day they will say let’s go and see one baba. It is good to marry into a good home if not you will put your hands in certain things you are not supposed to. I thank God for them. They are always praying for us. They streghtened my faith.” she added.
Dr. Mike, also a Pastor and Dr. Modupe, a Vet Clinician celebrated their wedding anniversary on December 11.
In one of her Facebook posts, Modupe described her husband as her loverboy and gist mate. On his part, Dr. Mike said he will choose his wife again if he needed to do it over again.
“All these years we have thought and talked together, walked and worked, prayed and played, sometimes cried and celebrated. In all these we know Jesus is our Lord, In Him we live. Happy celebration to the wife of my youth!”

Redis is an open-source in-memory data structure store. It can be used as a database, cache and message broker and supports various data structures such as Strings, Hashes, Lists, Sets, etc. Redis provides high availability via Redis Sentinel including monitoring, notifications Automatic failover. It also provides automatic partitioning across multiple Redis nodes with Redis Cluster. This tutorial explains how to install and configure Redis on a CentOS 7 server. Redis package is not included in the default CentOS repositories. We will be installing Redis version 5.0.2 from the Remi repository.
The installation is pretty straightforward, just follow the steps below:
Total Time:5 minutes
Start by enabling the Remi repository by running the following commands in your SSH terminal:
Once the installation is completed, start the Redis service and enable it to start automatically on boot with:
sudo systemctl start redissudo systemctl enable redisCreated symlink from /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/redis.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/redis.service. To check the status of the service enter the following command sudo systemctl status redis You should see something like the following: redis.service - Redis persistent key-value database Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/redis.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled) Drop-In: /etc/systemd/system/redis.service.d └─limit.conf Active: active (running) since Sat 2018-11-24 15:21:55 PST; 40s ago Main PID: 2157 (redis-server) CGroup: /system.slice/redis.service └─2157 /usr/bin/redis-server 127.0.0.1:6379
Redis service will fail to start if IPv6 is disabled on your server.
Congratulations, at this point you have Redis installed and running on your CentOS 7 server.
Configure Redis Remote Access
Redis doesn’t allow remote connections. You can connect to the Redis server only from 127.0.0.1 (localhost) – the machine where Redis is running.
Perform the following steps only if you want to connect to your Redis server from remote hosts. If you are using a single server setup, where the application and Redis are running on the same machine then you should not enable remote access.
To configure Redis to accept remote connections open the Redis configuration file with your text editor:
sudo nano /etc/redis.conf
Locate the line that begins with bind 127.0.0.1 and add your server private IP address after 127.0.0.1./etc/redis.conf
# IF YOU ARE SURE YOU WANT YOUR INSTANCE TO LISTEN TO ALL THE INTERFACES
# JUST COMMENT THE FOLLOWING LINE.
# ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
bind 127.0.0.1 192.168.121.233
Copy
Make sure you replace 192.168.121.233 with your IP address. Save the file and close the editor.
Restart the Redis service for changes to take effect:
sudo systemctl restart redis
Use the following ss command to verify that the Redis server is listening on your private interface on port
Next, you’ll need to add a firewall rule that enables traffic from your remote machines on TCP port 6379.
Assuming you are using FirewallD to manage your firewall and you want to allow access from the 192.168.101.0/24 subnet you would run the following commands:
The commands above create a new zone named redis, opens the port 6379 and allows access from the private network.
At this point, Redis server will accept remote connections on TCP port 6379.
Make sure your firewall is configured to accept connections only from trusted IP ranges.
To verify that everything is set up properly, you can try to ping the Redis server from your remote machine using the redis-cli utility which provides a command-line interface to a Redis server:
redis-cli -h <REDIS_IP_ADDRESS> ping
The command should return a response of PONG:
PONG
Conclusion
Congratulations, you have successfully installed Redis on your CentOS 7 server. To learn more about how to use Redis, visit their official documentation page.

FIFA has canceled the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups scheduled for next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The news comes after the postponement of the Olympic Games and other global sporting tournaments.
In a statement released, FIFA said the 2021 edition of both tournaments will be cancelled, and the next edition will be held in 2023, with Indonesia still hosting the U20s and Peru the U17s.
“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to present challenges for the hosting of international sporting events and to have a restrictive effect on international travel. FIFA has therefore regularly consulted the relevant stakeholders, including the host member associations as well as the confederations involved in both tournaments originally scheduled to take place in 2021,” the football governing body said in a statement.
“In doing so, it became clear that the global situation has failed to normalise to a sufficient level to address the challenges associated with hosting both tournaments, including the feasibility of the relevant qualification pathways,” it added.
A Russian billionaire has reportedly been found dead in Zanzibar while on holiday with his daughter and a mystery woman.
Igor Sosin, a retail magnate, and portfolio investor, who earlier recovered from coronavirus had intended to celebrate the New Year in Zanzibar before his sudden death.
The 53-year-old father of six was spending the festive holiday with his daughter Taisia, 18, and a mystery woman as he was reported to have been going through a divorce with his third wife.
According to Mail Online, his family said he could not be woken and doctors pronounced him dead.
The cause of death is not yet established.
His estranged third wife, Inna, was flying back to Moscow from a trip to the Bahamas after receiving news of his death.
Sosin was known for his love of lavish parties, yachts, tennis, and skiing.
In the US, he often rented a luxury house on Ox Pasture Lane in elite Southampton for almost £650,000, a property boasting 10 acres, two pools and a 50ft water fountain.
He famously held a swanky Fourth of July party at the property.
In 2015, the family was hit by tragedy when his son Egor, then 19, strangled and repeatedly struck his mother Anastasia Sosina-Novikova with a phone charger cable. Anastasis was Sosin’s second wife.
He confessed to the killing claiming he wanted to “expel the devil” from inside her when they stayed at a hotel in Kazan, Russia.
Egor did not face trial after being diagnosed with an unspecified “acute mental disorder”. He was later released from a specialist psychiatric hospital after successful psychiatric treatment.
A Pakistani court has ordered the release of the British-born militant, Omar Sheikh who was accused of killing an American journalist, Daniel Pearl in 2002.
Omar Sheikh was acquitted of Daniel Pearl’s murder earlier this year but had remained in jail after an appeal against that decision began.
The Sindh High Court in Karachi on Thursday, December 24, 2020, ruled that Sheikh’s temporary jail time was illegal and he should released within the next 24 hours.
The story of the abduction and gruesome beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter, Daniel Pearl (pictured below) in the southern city of Karachi, Pakistan in 2012 prompted shock and outrage.
Pearl, who was the Wall Street Journal’s South Asia bureau chief, went missing in January 2002.
He had been researching links between Islamist militant activity in Karachi and Richard Reid, who tried to blow up a passenger plane using bombs hidden in his shoes.
Prosecutors accused Mr Sheikh of luring him to a meeting with an Islamic cleric.
Pearl and Mr Sheikh had built their relationship by discussing concerns about their wives, who were both pregnant at the time.
Soon after Pearl disappeared, Pakistani and US news organisations received emails from a group known as the National Movement for the Restoration of Pakistani Sovereignty. The group made a list of demands, including better treatment for Pakistani prisoners in the US.
Almost a month later, a video showing the 38-year-old Pearl’s beheading was sent to the US consulate in Karachi.
Sheikh was arrested days after Pearl’s kidnapping and later convicted of the murder by an anti-terrorism court.
Ever since his conviction he had been on death row but in April 2020 the Sindh High Court downgraded Mr Sheikh’s conviction to the lesser crime of kidnapping, and acquitted three other men connected to the case drawing condemnation from Pearl’s family and the Pakistani government who appealed the decision.
Sheikh has also been accused of transferring money to one of the militants involved in the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US.
A 20-year-old Russian beautician is currently fighting for life after a pack of wild dogs gnawed her face off in subfreezing eastern Siberia.
Tatyana Loskutnikova, a nail artist, was savagely attacked by 10 dogs as she walked through Ulan-Ude city, in far eastern Siberia, on the morning of December 23.
The animals ripped her clothes off in -22C (-7.6F) temperatures, bit her down to the bone, and chewed all the skin off her face before locals who heard her screams came to her rescue, East2West News reported.
The critically injured woman, who suffered severe blood loss, was carried to a nearby house before she was rushed to a hospital, where she was placed in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator, according to the outlet.
Her family said her face has been “damaged beyond recognition.”
“The victim is in intensive care after anti-shock therapy,” said Dr. Igor Shpak, head physician at the Republican Clinical Hospital.
“Surgeons, neurosurgeons, traumatologists, otolaryngologists and maxillofacial surgeons are all fighting for her life,” he added. “The patient was delivered to us in an extremely serious condition suffering hemorrhagic and painful shock.”
Only her eyes remained on her disfigured face, according to the hospital.
Loskutnikova had “multiple lacerated and bitten wounds on the face, body, and limbs,” Shpak said. “The percentage of damage is extremely high. Her blood pressure is extremely low.”
Local resident Alexandra Andreevna, who helped save the woman, said she heard screaming and barking.
“I got dressed, went out to the crossroad to see. There was a backpack lying on the ground,” she said. “Then I saw a baying pack of dogs and a person lying on the ground. There were about 10 dogs, maybe more.”
Andreevna said the woman was no longer screaming at one point.
“She was conscious, but, apparently she could no longer scream because of pain,” she said, adding that she used a stick to beat away the crazed dogs and bang on a fence to alert others.
A statement from her brother Vladislav posted: ‘On December 23, on the way to the clinic, my sister Tatyana was attacked by a pack of dogs.
‘As a result, she was taken in an EXTREMELY SEVERE CONDITION to the intensive care unit…
‘The bites were deep, to the bone, the soft tissues of her face damaged beyond recognition.
‘Tanya. (Tatyana) is a young and promising girl, she is only 20 years old.’
A police officer shot one of the violent dogs dead soon after the animal attacked him. The others were killed later.
A preliminary criminal investigation has been opened
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has announced that 20 doctors died of Coronavirus complications within the past seven days.
Enema Amodu, chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the federal capital territory (FCT) said this during a press briefing on Friday December 25.
Amodu stated that medical personnel are in need of personal protective equipment (PPEs) as the second wave of infections in the country has been “catastrophic”.
He said;
“Everywhere around the world at this time, we are facing a second wave, and this second wave is so overwhelming and more catastrophic because a lot of people have gone back to the way of doing things thinking that the virus is over, and it is gone and they have let their guards down.
“For those of us in the health sector, we have lost quite a number of colleagues in the last one week alone. Across the nation, we have lost professors, consultants, residents (both senior and junior), very senior medical officers and nurses – some of them you may not hear of and some you may hear depending on the circumstances and whatever positions they are occupying. This goes to show that this virus is very much with us and they call it a second wave, but it is actually a continuum because it never really left us.
“I am here this afternoon on Christmas Day to solidarise first with the families of our members that have lost loved ones. I want to make it public that we are with you in this very trying and grieving moment of sadness over the loss of our colleagues who most likely are the breadwinners of their families. We also want to use this opportunity to talk to our patients; when you come to us in the hospitals and clinics, please oblige us and wear your mask. Tell us the truth about your past medical condition and don’t hold any information back.
“The figure of the number of our colleagues that have died is evolving everyday but as I am standing here, I got a call from a colleague who is in an isolation centre, and he is not sounding very good. I can give you a figure now that by evening it will change. But I can tell you from the top of my head across the country, we have lost not less than 20 doctors in the last one week.
“By the grace of God, I am standing here today as a survivor because as an ENT consultant, I inadvertently saw a patient that I did not know had COVID-19 and she did not tell me, and she knew. I was exposed and contracted the virus; I developed symptoms but by the grace of God my colleagues rallied around me and I survived.
“Our patients need to follow the laid-down rules and we are not degrading or insulting anybody. As you enter the hospital premises, most hospitals now have facilities for you to wash your hands and ensure that you wear your mask – please comply. Also, when you sit with a doctor, ensure you keep a safe distance.”
On hazard allowance, Amodu added;
“The President of the NMA, Prof. Innocent Ujah, has not rested on his oars since this pandemic broke out. I was privileged to be part of a team that went to see the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Femi Gbajabiamila. The President put forward the issue of our hazard allowance. There is no need to hide anything anymore. I can tell you that our hazard allowance is N5, 000 per month. The Speaker of the House of Representatives has assured my President that they will do something about it and we believe he will do something about it because he is a legislator that believes that the health sector is key to development.
“Our members are dying and my colleagues are suffering and angry. But we have taken an oath and that is why we are still providing services, and we will continue to provide services. We just asked the government to do their own bit and help us so that we can change the narrative of the health sector.
“We hope that the government will start off the new year with a reviewed hazard allowance. But I am not oblivious of the processes for it to be gazette and captured in our salaries and wages. We expect that the government will expedite action because we need this show of solidarity from the government because the virus is still very much with us but we are still working. Giving a time frame now will seem as though we are trying to issue a threat or ultimatum but we are not. We expect the government to do the needful.”
A couple forced their neighbours to sexually abuse their own four-year-old daughter, then they tortured the child to death, police say.
Kourtney Aumen, 21, and her partner Ethan Mast, 35, are said to have beaten their neighbours’ young child from head to toe and dunked her in a freezing lake, before leaving her to die of her injuries.
The pair, from Warsaw in Missouri, US, was arrested after the child died on Sunday, Dec 20.
They allegedly told police they were targeting their neighbours for torture because the family’s mother was possessed by a “demon.”
Police were called to the home of the neighbours, who have not been named, and discovered the couple’s four-year-old daughter’s body wrapped in a blanket and covered with bruises.
She had been beaten with a wooden spoon, leather belt, punched and submerged in freezing water.
The girl’s dad told detectives that Aumen and Mast had been torturing him, his wife, his two sons and their late daughter.
Police found the man’s wife covered in dark bruises on her face and back. The couple’s two-year-old son was also badly bruised, although their youngest son, an infant, had no visible injuries.
Investigators were told how Aumen and Mast had come over and started beating the two-year-old with a wooden spoon while forcing his parents to watch.
Asked why he hadn’t intervened, the dad said he’d been told by Aumen and Mast that it was the only way to remove “Satan” from his wife. They are also said to have threatened to kill him, according to KRCG.
The abuse meted out to the family escalated over the coming days.
It is alleged that Aumen and Mast even forced the parents to sexually abuse their four-year-old daughter.
On Sunday, Aumen and Mast are said to have shown up to beat the girl with a leather belt, prompting her to cry out for help. She was then taken outside and submerged in a freezing pond, with her head held underwater.
Mast is said to have punched and flogged the girl with a belt while beating her two-year-old brother with a wooden spoon and forcing their dad to watch.
The girl was left shivering and died shortly afterwards.
Aumen and Mast left but were arrested shortly after and now face second-degree murder as well as assault and sexual abuse charges.
Aumen’s Facebook page biography reads: “The heavens are roaring! The praise of your glory, for you oh God ‘are raised to LIFE again!’ “
They are being held in jail ahead of their next court hearing. It is unclear whether the murdered girl’s parents will also face criminal action.
A worker at the Living Faith Church presided over by Pastor David Oyedepo, is allegedly currently battling with COVID19.
Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, who shared this on Twitter handle, said the worker in question believes he contracted the virus while attending the yearly Shiloh programme of the church that took place between December 8 to 13. The said worker claims some pastors who attended the program have also started showing symptoms of the disease.
Fisayo says the worker’s wife, daughter, and domestic employee have started showing symptoms of the viral disease.
Read Fiyaso’s tweets below
”A worker at the Living Faith Church is down with COVID-19 after attending Shiloh 2020. His wife, daughter and domestic employee are exhibiting symptoms of the virus — even their dog! Some pastors who attended Shiloh are down with the virus too.
This worker didn’t want to physically attend Shiloh, held from December 8 to 13, but had no alternative because the church made it compulsory for workers. As can be seen from internet videos, congregants mingled with one another without masks or social distancing.
In the past, the church observed safety protocol such as social distancing, wearing of face masks and hand washing. However, at Shiloh, no precautionary measures were in place.
“People were just careless,” he said. “Yes, many people didn’t come this year because of COVID but those in attendance were careless.”
The problem is this worker knows the pastors currently exhibiting symptoms of the virus will not admit this to the Founder & Presiding Bishop, meaning other potentially infected but asymptomatic Shiloh congregants might continue mixing with people without caution.
“Some Winners pastors are down with COVID; they’re just keeping it to themselves but we can’t just fold our hands,” he said. The plea from him is that those who attended Shiloh “should try to isolate themselves and try not to pass on the virus”.
His wish is for people to get educated that the festive season is no excuse for them to physically attend crossover services without recourse to COVID-19 safety protocol.”
Hundreds of immigrants in France who are working on the coronavirus frontline have had their citizenship applications fastracked with 74 people already granted permanent stay.
Back in September, the interior ministry invited people who “actively contributed” to the fight against the novel coronavirus, such as healthcare professionals, cleaners, childcare, and shop workers, to apply for fast-track naturalisation.
According to the office of Marlene Schiappa, junior minister for citizenship, of the nearly 3,000 people who responded, 74 had already obtained citizenship and 693 more were in the final stage of becoming citizens.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ms. Schiappa said: ‘Foreign workers gave their time and swung into action for all of us during the Covid crisis.
‘It is now up to the Republic to take a step toward them.
‘Health professionals, cleaning ladies, childcare workers, checkout staff: They all proved their commitment to the nation, and it is now the turn of the republic to take a step towards them.’
Additionally, Immigration authorities have also been ordered to reduce the residency period needed for citizenship to two years from the usual five in the case of ‘great services rendered’.
A baby girl has died after swallowing a tiny button battery which began generating electricity inside her and eroded through her tissues, causing terrible burns.
Reese Smith, 1, died last Thursday, Dec 17, weeks after taking the button battery out of a remote control at her home in Lubbock, Texas, and swallowing it.
Reese suffered severe burns to her throat, oesophagus and vocal cords.
Pediatrician Dr Thomas McGill, who treated Reese, said the youngster’s mucus membrane had been burned “completely black, as if you were roasting a marshmallow.”
Dr McGill, who treated Reese at University Medical Center in Lubbock, explained that one side of the flat battery has a positive charge, while the other has a negative charge. So, the battery began generating electricity after settling in the child’s oesophagus, before eroding through the oesophagus and settling in her airway.
Reese’s mother Trista, a hairdresser, noticed her daughter could not stop coughing last month, and feared she may have swallowed the battery after noticing a remote whose back had been taken off.
Trista rushed her daughter to hospital, where an x-ray confirmed her worst fears.
Reese was later transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. There, she underwent multiple surgeries to remove the battery and try and repair the damage to her insides.
Unfortunately, the toddler eventually succumbed to her injuries despite surgeons’ best efforts to save her.
Doctors said the battery had been inside the child for too long to save her.
How Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi state accomplished what his predecessors couldn’t ….As Military neutralizes terrorist’s camp, arrests 180 kidnappers in Kogi.
As boko haram, bandits, criminals and kidnappers continue to unleash terror and untold mayhem across northern states of Nigeria and the entire North Central, the Governor of Kogi state, Mr. Yahaya Bello in collaboration with security agencies in Nigeria has made it difficult for these men of the underworld to operate freely in Kogi state. A feat which his predecessors couldn’t accomplish.
Gov. Bello’s immeasurable determination and exertions has culminated into an unprecedented success in the neutralization and utterly decimation of the security threats posed by the dastardly ‘Darusallam’ terror group operating on Kogi-Nasarawa border, whose camp was absolutely destroyed by the Nigerian Military recently in a gun battle that lasted for several hours, according to our sources.
The military operations was led by the Nigerian Army from the 177 Battalion, Lokoja and local vigilantes within the state, funded by the Kogi State government which resulted to the rescue of over 100 kidnapped victims and the arrest of 180 kidnappers operating within the deadly camp.
The ‘Darusallam’ terror group had before their obliteration been responsible for most terrorists, kidnapping and criminal activities orchestrated within the Abuja – Lokoja highway for several years unabated.
*Kogi state before the era of Governor Bello was a playground for criminal elements who had turned all the major highways in the confluence state into battlegrounds for armed robbery, terrorism, kidnapping and banditry.
The state also recorded high profile attack on churches, security operatives’ offices, residences, mosques, etcetera, on daily basis.
These criminal elements succeeded in attacking the office of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) in Lokoja on September 25th, 2015. This attack left three people dead while some terror suspects kept in the facility were freed back to the society.
Financial institutions in the state were not left out in these heinous and dreadful attacks as a total of 16 bank robberies were witnessed in various banks across the state between 2011 and 2015 and millions carted away to fund terror activities.
Records have it that these financial institutions suffered recurrent rapes by armed robbers: First Bank Kabba – November 19, 2011; First Bank Aiyetoro Gbede –December 19, 2011; First Bank Ankpa – April 25, 2012; First Bank Ajaokuta – September 27, 2013; Unity Bank – April 25, 2012; First Bank and Mainstream Banks were simultaneously robbed in Kabba on October 1, 2014
Others are: Union Bank Egume came under attack on August 10, 2014; United Bank of Africa (UBA) Odo-Ere, December 18, 2014; Akwengwu Microfinance Bank Adavi – November 27th, 2015 among several others.
It is also on record that between 2011 and 2012, the deadly boko haram terrorists group created a cell in Kogi state, which served as factories for manufacturing IEDs and training camp for their executionists.
The state also witnessed series of unprecedented kidnapping activities, cutting across all three Senatorial Districts of the state between the period of January to June, 2016. The Kogi Central Senatorial District recorded 167 kidnapping cases, while Kogi Senatorial District recorded 42 and Kogi East recorded 39 accordingly.
Since the emergence of Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration, he has singlehandedly changed these negative narratives. Since his assumption of office as the Governor Kogi State on January 27th, 2016, he has demonstrated people oriented strategic policies with the establishment of the Kogi Vigilante Service (KVS) capping them all.
The KVS has since its inception recruited and trained over 6,000 operatives. These operatives are well equipped in intelligence gathering and sharing with government security agencies. They gather intelligence from their localities and share them with security agencies who are better trained for proper implementation and execution.
There is also well structured collaboration and synergy between the security agencies, traditional rulers, pastors, imams, youth leaders, community leaders and other security stakeholders in the state.
The Kogi state government has also devoted its scarce financial resources in providing logistics and operational vehicles to security agencies in the state to ease their operations.
Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration has also been consistent in the monthly payment of about N58million for Kogi Vigilantes; payment of about N50million monthly allowances as well as introduction of a whistle blowing policy with a reward of N500,000 for persons with reliable information that could foist any act of criminality in the state.
The Kogi State government has within the last few years invested heavily in security technology in order to effectively combat emerging crimes in the state, as it recently commissioned a quick emergency reporting and response operation centre in Lokoja code named ‘Operation Total Freedom’.
The Vigiscope (Vgs) Operation centre is a technological incorporated security driven initiative of the Governor Bello-led administration in partnership with a private company (Vigiscope Limited) geared towards intelligence gathering and sharing in c collaboration with mainstream security agencies.
The recently commissioned technologically driven security and safety apparatus, which comprised of three major components namely, the mobile reporter, the dispatcher and VGs responder is believed to be another step in the right direction by the this administration. It enhances quick responses by security and safety operatives across the state.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Onogwu Muhammed, in the last quarter of 2019, cult activities resurfaced in the tertiary institutions across the state, the state governor summoned all heads of higher institutions for an extraordinary security meeting on January 3rd, 2020 and gave a stern warning that any vice chancellor, rector and provost who cannot curb the menace of cultism on the campus should resign before February 28th.
With this directive and the internal security network, over 14 cultists have so far been apprehended while carrying out their illicit activities at different parts of the state between January 8th to February 20th, 2020.
In the same vein, over 200 people belonging to different confraternities denounced their membership at the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba on Friday, 28th of February, 2020.
On the resurgence of kidnappings in some parts of the state, the state government confronted the criminals ferociously as the Governor quickly established a Mopol Squadron Unit along the troubled areas of Obajana-Kabba road and Okene in Kogi State.
The government in perfect collaboration with the Nigerian police force had carried out aerial surveillance to identify the locations of criminals and smoke them out using the ground forces, Mr Onogwu narrated.
When it comes to security, Governor Yahaya Bello is standing tall amongst his contemporaries and is ready to do more with the menial resources at his disposal as the Chief Executive Officer of Kogi State.
World Heavyweight Boxing champion, Anthony Joshua has stoked fires of rivalry with Tyson Fury, for the first time after beating Kubrat Pulev early December.
According to Joshua, he wants to ‘take Fury’s head off his shoulders’ and settle a score over an old Rolex promised to him by Fury after their famous 2010 spar .
Joshua also revealed he’s targeting seven more years at the top and he also confirmed there’s been progress in the past week over the proposed £200m showdown in May 2021 between him and Fury which would be one of the biggest events in British sporting history.
Joshua’s comments come after an audio leaked this weak in which Fury, now the WBC champion admitted AJ gave him ‘a killing’ in sparring in 2010.
That sparring session came with the promise that if Joshua or any other heavyweight could beat Fury, they could take his Rolex, although the watch was never given to Joshua, who was 20 years old then.
With a super-fight between the Brits now closer than ever to materialising, Joshua, 31, said: ‘All I wanted was his Rolex watch. He said before that spar (to Boxing News), “If you can beat me up or knock me out, you can have my Rolex watch”.
‘I was hungry then and I am even hungrier now. It was a good spar. I didn’t really know too much, it was just passion. Now I have some boxing IQ and passion, I know it will be a great fight.
‘There was a Rolex but now there is an even bigger pot of gold at the end of this rainbow and I want to take his head off his shoulders when that fight happens.’
Joshua, the IBF, WBA and WBO champion, added: ‘After the Pulev fight I didn’t want to do any interviews – less talk and more action. I stood by that. But now that we’re talking about it, a week or so after, and I’m ready, I’m keen. If that fight happens I’m sure that I’ll win. How close are we? I promise you conversations are happening. We’re definitely looking at the landscape. But until you hear it from me, don’t buy into anything.
‘I’m taking my time – because there has been a lot of back-and-forth for years. I’ve been chasing this road to undisputed and when the time is right I’ll announce it and I’ll have my mind fully focused on the job at hand.
‘The offers will be made, substantial offers. I’m looking more optimistically as if it will happen to be honest with you. He should take this fight with both hands.
‘I promise you this: I will put in a serious offer to fight Tyson Fury and if he’s serious himself, he will take it. If he’s not I will fight (Oleksandr) Usyk and leave it there.’
Heavyweight boxer, Usyk is among the problems around the fight for the undisputed title, given the Ukrainian is the mandatory challenger for Joshua’s WBO belt.
With the WBO currently holding Joshua to his obligation to fight Usyk next, Joshua could have to vacate the belt in order to complete negotiations with Fury.
Asked about giving up one of his titles, Joshua said: ‘The belts do make it special but I feel like the cries from the public are just for me to fight Tyson Fury.
‘I am the sort of guy who will let my team just put a social media poll and whatever the fans vote, I will do. If they want to see me fight Fury, and I have to relinquish… There is nothing more in it than me wanting to compete against the best.
‘If that is Tyson Fury, then fine. If they want me to fight Usyk, and get him out of the way, then fine. I believe I will beat Usyk and then Tyson Fury can happen at the end of the year. Either way, I am just doing my next couple of fights next year on what the public wants me to do.’
In terms of his future, Joshua indicated he has a point in mind for when he will retire.
He said: ‘I have a time frame, I want to go to around 38.
‘I am not just looking at Tyson Fury, but how long I can give to the sport. What more do I have to give? I am young and fit, I don’t do anything else so boxing is fun for me and keeps me busy.
‘Tyson Fury is a good challenger, someone to help me progress, he will be a great learning fight. And, once that is done, I will go on competing with the best, challenging myself and making history.’
Twitter has announced it will not transfer the millions of followers from Trump’s POTUS account to Biden when he takes over the US Presidency on January 20, 2021.
According to Twitter who allowed Trump make use of the followers it got from Obama’s then POTUS account, Biden’s POTUS account will start with zero followers when he becomes president .
Twitter plans to wipe out all followers from the @POTUS and @WhiteHouse accounts once Biden is sworn in on January 20th, rather than transferring the accounts’ existing followers over to the new administration, according to Rob Flaherty, Biden’s digital director.
The accounts for @VP, @FLOTUS, @PressSec, @Cabinet, and @LaCasaBlanca will also have their followers wiped, Twitter said.
The Wall Street Journal reported this week that there was contention between the Biden camp and Twitter over whether followers would transfer over.
This is a reversal from what Twitter did in 2017 when the Trump administration took over accounts from the Obama administration. Back then, Twitter essentially duplicated the existing accounts, creating an archive of Obama-era tweets and followers and building a new set of accounts for the incoming administration that retained all of those followers without any of the tweets.
Twitter hasn’t explained why it’s changing the policy this time. Twitter told The Verge it is “in ongoing discussions with the Biden transition team on a number of aspects related to White House account transfers.”
Biden’s team seems to be unhappy about this change in policy, given the significant digital advantage they’ll be losing. Flaherty said the transition team “pushed back and we were told this was unequivocal.”
On Inauguration Day, anyone who follow one of the handles being transitioned will receive a notification that the account is being archived, a Twitter spokesperson said. They will also be given the option to follow the Biden administration’s new accounts.
This will be a major digital set back for Biden as those accounts have significant followings.
@POTUS has 33 million followers, @WhiteHouse has 26 million, @FLOTUS has 16 million, and @PressSec has 6 million.
Donald Trump’s @POTUS account will be renamed @POTUS45 and “frozen as-is,” the Journal reported. He’ll still be in control of @realDonaldTrump, albeit with fewer protections than before.
Italian club, Chievo, has accused a player of another Italian club, Pisa, of allegedly using racist language against Super Eagles midfielder, Joel Obi.
According to Serie B side Chievo, Joel Obi was racially abused at the hands of a Pisa player, Michele Marconi, who allegedly made an offensive “slave” comment to Obi.
Chievo drew 2-2 in Tuesday December 22 league clash, a result that leaves them in ninth place in the league but the match experienced unsavoury scenes when, after full-time Michele Marconi directed racist abuse towards Obi, according to Chievo.
“Following the racist phrase ‘the slave revolt’ said by the Pisa player Michele Marconi to the midfielder Joel Obi during the first half of the Pisa – Chievo Verona match, the club expresses the utmost solidarity towards its player, the subject of a slanderous and bleak phrase, which has nothing to do with the most elementary and basic values ??of sport, ethics and respect,” the club wrote on its official website following the match.
“AC Chievo Verona strongly condemns and stigmatizes the racist behavior suffered by Joel Obi, and regrets that a phrase heard by most on the field was not followed by any disciplinary measures: neither by the referee, nor by the assistant and fourth official, nor the federal prosecutor.
“AC Chievo Verona, always a staunch supporter of the values ??of ethics, respect and fair play – will continue to remain at the forefront of the fight against any form of racism or violence, on and off any playing field.”
No action was taken on the field against Marconi, who played 77 minutes of the clash before being withdrawn for Alessandro De Vitis.
Another 90 Day Fiancé couple is going their separate ways.
Nigeria’s Usman Umar, aka SojaBoy, and America’s Lisa Hamme have been estranged for more than six months and are now officially getting divorced.
In an interview with InTouch from Monday, Dec. 21, Usman confirmed he has sent Lisa divorce papers.
The man from Northern Nigeria said: “Lisa and I are no longer together, she was served [papers] last week and she [doesn’t want to] accept it.”
He added that his lawyer tried to communicate with Lisa, but she “cut the call.”
Usman, 30, also said that his life has improved since breaking up with Lisa, describing how “happy” he is “without the drama.”
Meanwhile, Lisa has apologized to TLC for “the things that happened in Nigeria,” adding, “I take full responsibility for the part that I played in it.”
Lisa, 53, and Usman’s relationship began on the internet, where they spoke for nine months before getting engaged.
Usman, then 29, proposed to the 53-year-old Pennsylvania native with the intention of marrying her in Nigeria, despite never seeing her in person.
Their meeting and subsequent walk down the aisle played out on season four of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days.
Fans witnessed Lisa winning over Usman’s traditional family and their near breakup, before the pair tied the knot in a small civil ceremony.
However, prior to the finale in May, Lisa revealed they had already broken up.
According to Us Weekly, Lisa said in an Instagram Live: “He used me. He married me just to be on a TV show that people would recognize his name to sell his music… He thinks it’s just him, he thinks he’s going to do what he wants and he’s never going to apologize for anything he’s ever said bad about me.”
She went on to accuse him of a “romance scam,” a claim that Usman denied.
Usman wrote on Instagram that he was the one who was duped into marrying Lisa.
On Monday, Dec. 21, he wrote, “Is either I was brain washed or I was charmed by this woman, look at my mom and brother’s faces they were all not happy but I keep on going.
The Catholic Church announced on Monday, Dec 21, that the use of Covid-19 vaccines is “morally acceptable”.
The Covid-19 vaccines are developed using cell lines derived from aborted foetuses.
But the Vatican said that in the absence of any alternative, such vaccines “can be used in good conscience.”
It added that this would “not constitute formal co-operation” with the terminations that took place.
Several vaccine candidates were developed using cells derived from foetuses aborted decades ago.
However, no foetal cells are present in any of the vaccines.
“All vaccinations recognised as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience with the certain knowledge that the use of such vaccines does not constitute formal co-operation with the abortion from which the cells used in production of the vaccines derive,” the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith announced in a statement on Monday.
The text, which was approved by Pope Francis, also said there was “a moral imperative” to ensure that poorer countries received access to effective vaccines.
Several of the countries with the highest numbers of coronavirus cases have significant Catholic populations, including Brazil, Mexico, Italy and Spain.
The news of the Vatican’s decision on the issue came as AFP news agency reported that two cardinals close to Pope Francis had tested positive for coronavirus.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a major crackdown on Tuesday, arrested two African nationals, Ramla Shedafa Nancy and Emmanuel Michael, in Bengaluru on charges of drug peddling.
The passports recovered from the duo say they are from Kenya, however, the Bureau, which has busted several drug rackets in the state in the past few months, said it suspected that the passports were fake. Some local media in their reports said they are Nigerian nationals, others, Kenyans.
Over 800 grams of high-grade MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) and cocaine received from the Netherlands and Ethiopia through postal parcel service, were seized by the Narcotic Control Bureau, the central agency said on Tuesday, December 22.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a team of NCB officials arrested Nancy and Michael when they arrived to collect the parcels at the Foreign Post Office in Bengaluru on December 18, a release from the agency said.
A total of 3,000 yellow and grey coloured ecstasy pills, totally weighing 610 gms were found hidden in layers of table cloth in the parcels.
The NCB team also recovered 235 grams of cocaine concealed in the inner walls of a corrugated box from another parcel.
“Further acting on information obtained from the interrogation of apprehended persons, the NCB team traced and recovered another consisting of 235 grams of cocaine, concealed in the inner walls of a corrugated box. The cocaine was sourced from Ethiopia,” the NCB said in a statement.
The value of the highly addictive stimulants and hallucinogenic contraband drugs is said to be around Rs 55 lakh (28,368,406.00) in the grey market, said Director, NCB, BZU Amit Ghawate.
“NCB arrested the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The duo had come to India on student and tourist visas. The foreign passports recovered from them seems to be fake.” he added.
An investigating officer of the NCB, Sunil Pareva, was injured while chasing the duo, said Ghawate.
Preliminary investigation revealed that ecstasy pills were sourced from the Netherlands for distribution and the cocaine from Ethiopia.
MDMA (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine), commonly known as ecstasy, is a party drug that alters mood and perception and reduces feelings of increased energy and pleasure.
The NCB release said the popularity of such synthetic drugs have increased manifold over the past five years in the country.

England and Atletico Madrid defender, Kieran Trippier has been handed 10 weeks ban and fined £70,000 by the FA following misconduct in relation to breaches of betting regulations.
The right-back, 30, was charged by the FA in May and had to withdraw from the England squad in October for the Nations League fixture against Denmark to attend a personal hearing over the allegations.
These relate to bets placed in July 2019, when Trippier joined Atletico from Tottenham Hotspur.
An independent commission was appointed to hear the case, with four of the alleged breaches found proven and three dismissed.
The worldwide suspension means he will miss 12 games for La Liga leaders Atletico, including their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie at home to Chelsea on 23 February.
However, he will be available for the Madrid derby on 7 March.
An FA statement read: ‘The Atletico Madrid defender denied seven alleged breaches of FA Rule E8(1)(b), which were said to occur during July 2019, and requested a personal hearing.
‘An independent regulatory commission was appointed to hear the case, with four of the alleged breaches found proven and three dismissed during a subsequent personal hearing.
‘The independent regulatory commission’s written reasons for its decisions and the associated sanction will be published in due course.
‘The suspension, which includes all football and football-related activity, is effective worldwide from today (Wednesday 23 December 2020) following an application to FIFA.’
Trippier was accused of breaking Rule E8(1)(a)(ii) and Rule E8(1)(b) of the FA’s Betting Rules which state players cannot place a bet relating to football or provide relevant confidential information to anyone who could bet on a scenario.
FA Rule E8(1)(b) states: ‘Where a participant provides to any other person any information relating to football which the participant has obtained by virtue of his or her position within the game and which is not publicly available at that time, the participant shall be in breach of this Rule where any of that information is used by that other person for, or in relation to, betting.’
A British airline pilot who “crushed the brains” of his baby daughter was jailed for 20 years today, Dec 22.
Mohamed Barakat, 42, was jailed after being found guilty of murdering his daughter while intoxicated by drink and drugs at a luxury hotel in Kazakhstan.
The airbus captain fractured the skull of one-year-old Sophia by banging her head against a wall, a court found.
A Kazakh judge rejected the London-born pilot’s claim that the child was fatally injured in an “accident” resulting from an epileptic fit.
Barakat’s wife, Madina, 23, who had changed her initial testimony blaming Barakat for the baby’s death and called on the judge to find him not guilty, was in tears as she listened to the verdict today.
Barakat – a pilot employed by a subsidiary of Hong Kong Airlines – will serve his entire jail sentence in Kazakhstan prison, said the court authorities.
On his release, he will be banned from entering the country for five years.
His guilt was proved “by the testimony of a witness, a maid who heard the sounds of banging on the wall, after which the crying of the child fell silent,” said a court statement issued by press secretary Abay Zharylkasyn.
Madina had earlier fled the hotel room after Barakat beat her, according to witnesses.
CCTV evidence showed how the young mum later carried the baby to the lobby of the five-star InterContinental Hotel in Almaty in the early morning of 24 October 2019.
Ten witnesses told how she claimed her husband had killed the child, the judge said. The baby was “motionless” and “blue” in colour.
Madina collapsed several times in the lobby as staff called medics who found the baby to be dead.
According to one hotel staff member, Madina had shouted: “He killed my child, he hit her.”
But she later reversed her previous testimony, saying: “I have no claims against my spouse Mohamed Barakat.
“He could not hurt our child and moreover he was not capable of committing the crime.
“I ask you to accept this statement as a basis for cancelling all the previous accusatory testimony made by me against my husband.
“Mohamed is the most loving and caring husband and friend. I love him with all my heart.”
She pleaded: “You would probably think what kind of woman am I who protects her spouse who allegedly killed the child.
“However, this was not an intentional crime, he is not simply capable of causing harm, especially to Sophia.”
She added that what happened at the hotel “could only be death by negligence during an epileptic seizure.
“Mohamed would not hesitate to give his life for Sophia. She was everything for him….It was an accident.”
Despite this, Barakat was found guilty at the virtual hearing in Almaty city court on Tuesday December 22.
Judge Bakhytkhan Bakirbayev said there was “no evidence” Barakat had previously suffered from epilepsy.
The trial heard evidence that the Barakat had a secret stash of cannabis in his hotel room at the time his daughter was killed and had previously taken cocaine.
Barakat received a maximum sentence under the criminal code because of the “aggravating circumstance” of committing the murder “in a state of alcoholic and drug intoxication”.
The pilot was also ordered to pay his wife £135 compensation, a sum that would likely have been significantly higher if she had filed a civil suit against him.
He was given 15 days to appeal the conviction and sentence.
Barakat had earlier told the court: “Just because you have the power to put me in prison, that doesn’t mean you have the power to make me guilty.
“It means you will put an innocent man in prison.”
He said: “I would never hurt my own daughter. I was the first person who saw Sophia coming into this world… I was going to teach her how to fly…”
Barakat’s legal team claimed dozens of procedural errors in the criminal investigation and the court case meant that Barakat did not receive a fair trial.
His lawyers made repeated attempts without success to seek a fresh investigation and replace the judge.
Barakat’s sister Sara said by video link from Britain that the pilot “must have suffered a seizure”.
She said: “We have no doubts in our minds or in our hearts that he is innocent.”
Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Golden Foot award before his arch-rival, Lionel Messi.
The Portuguese and Juventus striker, 35, had another standout season with Juventus winning Serie A title as well as grabbing the top goalscorer award, the Capocannoniere.

‘I am truly humbled and want to thank the fans all over the world for having voted for me’
A German court has jailed a far-right gunman for life for his deadly attack on a synagogue in the eastern city of Halle last year, 2019.
Stephan Balliet, 28, shot and killed a female passer-by and a man at a kebab shop after failing to break into the synagogue which had about 52 worshippers on 9 October 2019.
He wore combat clothing on the day of the attack and filmed the shooting, broadcasting it for 35 minutes on the internet.
A heavy, bolted door at the synagogue was what kept him from firing at the Jewish worshippers marking the Yom Kippur festival inside.
If he had been successful, the death would have become Germany’s worst anti-Semitic atrocity since the Nazi era.
During his trial, Balliet expressed no remorse for the attack on the synagogue.
He said that “attacking the synagogue was not a mistake, they are my enemies”.
Russia and Rwanda have sent in hundreds of troops to protect Central African Republic President, Faustin-Archange Touadera (pictured below at a rally), and the presidential palace after former president, Francois Bozize, allegedly attempted a coup ahead of the presidential elections this weekend.
The Central African Republic announcing the new developments on Monday, December 21, said that three rebel groups controlled by Bozize (pictured below), started to advance on Friday towards the capital Bangui along key highways after declaring an alliance.
The UN peacekeeping force MINUSCA announced on Sunday that the rebels had been stopped or pushed back and the situation was “under control”.
“Russia has sent several hundred soldiers and heavy weapons” under a bilateral cooperation agreement, government spokesman Ange Maxime Kazagui said.
“The Rwandans have also sent several hundred men who are on the ground and have started fighting.”
Rwanda’s defence ministry confirmed the deployment.
Rwanda said the move was in response to the targeting of its troops in the 11,500-strong MINUSCA by rebels supported by Bozize, who ruled the CAR from 2003 to 2013.
No details were given about the deployment, but the ministry said it would “also contribute to ensure a peaceful and secure general elections scheduled on Sunday”.
The rebel groups merged into a single entity called “the Coalition for Patriots for Change” and invited all other groups to join while they headed down the country’s main highways towards Bangui, according to the government.
MINUSCA spokesman Vladimir Monteiro said late Sunday they had been pushed back in several locations or blocked, and “the situation is under control.”
The G5+ group — France, Russia, the US, the EU and the World Bank — urged Bozize and allied armed groups to lay down their arms and called for the presidential and parliamentary elections to go ahead on Sunday.
The Kremlin, reacting to the advance by the rebel groups said the situation in the country was of “serious concern”.
Moscow has been leading a vast diplomatic and financial offensive in the former French colony since 2018 in return for concessions to Russian firms to exploit minerals, particularly gold and diamonds.
Private security guards employed by Russian companies also provide protection for Touadera and are involved in training of local armed forces.
Bozize, 74, a former army general, denies the coup plot allegations, but has been a major figure in the country’s decades-long history of war and poverty no.
He has a large follower base in the northwest of the country, especially among the Gbaya ethnic group, which is the country’s largest.
He has also been banned from this weekend’s presidential Elections by the country’s court, leaving incumbent Touadera as favorite.
Customs officers in Mali have seized gold estimated to be worth seven million euros ($8.5 million) hidden in a car.
According to the Mali government, the 143 kilograms (315 pounds), 88 bars of gold was en route to neighbouring Guinea and was discovered on Saturday night, December 19.
The 88 bars discovered overnight Saturday were “destined to be exported without the knowledge of customs officers, which would have disrupted our economy”, said Amidou Fakourou Bakagha, deputy director general of the customs service, on Monday, December 21.
The poor, landlocked country in western Africa is the fifth-biggest gold producer on the continent, according to the World Bank, and due to the porous nature of their borders, seizures of gold traffickers is usual.
Its industrial and small-scale mining makes the precious metal the country’s biggest export product, according to the World Bank.
