President Buhari declares ‘No Fly-Zone’ on Zamfara state, bans mining activities

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday March 2, declared Zamfara state a no fly-zone.

National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd) conveyed the President’s directive while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting of National Security Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The NSA who disclosed that the President also approved a ban on mining activities in Zamfara over rising insecurity in the state, said all non-state actors had been placed under surveillance. 

Daily Trust reported that Monguno reiterated that the federal government would not hesitate to use kinetic means to restore normalcy in the country, while also disclosing that defense and intelligence organisations had been charged not to allow the country slide into anarchy.

He said; 

“We can no longer avoid to lose lives while operating within the legalities. We are not going to blackmailed . The government has the responsibility to assert its will.

“Citizens can reside wherever they want to reside . Anybody who is a criminal should be brought to book. The president has also warned against ethnic profiling. We have have enough of chaos .

“Any individual that thinks he can cause disunity, should have a rethink.”

Kevin McDonald, Fulham midfielder, prepares for kidney transplant

Fulham midfielder, Kevin McDonald has revealed he is putting his career on hold to have a transplant amid a long battle with chronic kidney disease. 

The Scotland international has been suffering from kidney disease for around 14 years now and has been under doctors’ orders throughout a playing career which has included 500 professional appearances  Dundee, Sheffield United, and Wolves. He also made five international caps for Scotland.

The 32-year-old is now planing for a transplant in April after friends and family members put themselves forward to offer a replacement kidney. 

‘I’ve been fighting a chronic kidney disease, or kidney failure ever since I started playing football. I’ve had it my whole career and obviously been under the orders of the doctors throughout my whole career,’ McDonald told FFCtv.

‘No one sees this part of football. People just see you on the pitch and they have their opinions of you on the pitch and that’s that. I just wanted to come out with this.

‘I’ve had a lot of people asking about “Why am I not playing, why am I not going out on loan” and this and that and it is something that we didn’t want to share until this moment because obviously what’s coming up it needs to be said now.

‘So it’s just to make everyone aware that I’ve had a chronic kidney disease my whole playing career and that’s where it’s at.’

McDonald was left out of Scott Parker’s two 25-man Premier League squads this season and he was expected to leave Fulham on loan in January, but he has revealed why that did not happen.

‘I’ve known I’ve needed a kidney transplant for nearly 12 years now. I’ve loved my whole career in football but at the same time, in the back of my mind, my health has always been my priority. Football is a game but we’re talking about life-threatening diseases,’ he said.

‘I’ve got one kidney that doesn’t work at all and one kidney that’s about 10 per cent now. I’ve been playing with stage 1, to now stage 5 kidney disease, which is chronic kidney disease, kidney failure.’

He added: ‘It’s a part of me opening up about it, people build these things up and of course there were certain reasons why to not tell anyone, so people and football clubs and businesses might not want to employ you as such, so there was reasons to keep it (quiet).

‘But now, knowing that I’m towards the end of my career I’ve taken the decision to pick health over football, this season especially – and we just want to get it over and done with to be honest with you. 

‘It’s been creeping up on you for so long and it’s kind of like I’d rather go get it done and get on with the recovery again.’

Another woman has accused New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo of ‘unwanted sexual advances’, the third time he is being accused by a woman in the space of 8 days.

Anna Ruch has claimed that Cuomo asked to kiss her at a wedding in 2019, the latest bombshell as calls for Cuomo to resign grow louder amid the dueling scandals over allegations of improper behavior toward women and his handling of nursing homes during the coronavirus pandemic.


According to The New York Times, who published the above photo showing Cuomo holding Anna on the face as she she looked uncomfortably at him, Anna Ruch, 33, claimed that Cuomo asked to kiss her at a wedding in 2019.


After he asked to kiss her he now put his hand on her bare lower back.

Ruch said she pulled away and was “so confused and shocked and embarrassed” by the incident.

“I turned my head away and didn’t have words in that moment,” she reportedly said.


Over the past week, two of Cuomo’s former aides have accused him of sexual harassment, allegations he has denied.

Charlotte Bennett, a 25-year-old former staffer, claimed Cuomo talked about his willingness to have relationships with women in their 20s.


Prior to Bennett’s allegation surfacing, Cuomo aide Lindsey Boylan published a blog post accusing the governor of unwanted touching and kissing.


Cuomo responding to the new allegation, apologized for things that “have been misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation.”


Democratic politicians within the state have already started calling for Cuomo’s resignation.


Cuomo has already authorized an independent investigation of the allegations by the State’s Justice Department.

EFCC arraigns Dutch couple for $330,000 oil vessel fraud (photos)

The Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned a Dutch couple identified as Peiter Borremans and Nkechi Borremans alongside Lagon Trade Limited before Justice E. A. Obile of the Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for suspected fraudulent dealings involving a marine Tanker Vessel to the tune of $330,000 (Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand United States Dollars).

They were arraigned on two- count charges bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretenses contrary to Section 1(1) (a) and (2) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

One of the counts reads

“That you, Peiter Borremans, Nkechi Borremans, and Lagon Trade Limited, on or about the 31st day of July, 2014 at Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud did obtain the sum of Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand Dollars ($330,000:00) only from Jackkyson Multi Services Limited and Alot General Services Limited, as advance payment meant for the purchase of Marine Tanker Vessel, a pretext you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) and (2) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act”.

They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when they were read to them.  In view of their pleas, prosecuting counsel, N. A. Dodo prayed the court for a date for commencement of trial and for the defendants to be remanded in a Correctional Centre.

Defence counsel, C. A. Okowanya informed the court of oral applications for the bail of his clients and prayed that the defendants be remanded in EFCC custody due to the second wave of Covid-19.

Justice Obile adjourned the matter till March 31, 2021 for the commencement of trial and remanded the defendants in EFCC custody.

Trouble started for the couple when a petitioner alleged that his company: Jackkyson Multi Services Limited and Alot General services Limited, offered to purchase a Marine Tanker Vessel from  Lagon Trade Limited (belonging to Peiter Borremans and Nkechi Borremans) for One Million One Hundred Thousand United States Dollars(  $1,100,000) and made a part payment of Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand Dollars ($330,000:00).

The defendants allegedly vanished into thin air after collecting the money and all efforts to get a refund or delivery of the Vessel proved abortive.

South Africa: HIV positive woman raped at gunpoint by taxi men(photo)

A 25-year-old passenger who was allegedly raped at gunpoint by a taxi driver and a conductor in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on Monday, said she was scared to reveal she is HIV-positive.

The woman‚ who was dumped in a cane field after the ordeal‚ told Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) security officers on Monday, she wanted to let her attackers know about her status but was afraid they would shoot her.

Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram said they were called by a passing motorist just after 3pm after the driver was flagged down by the victim on the northbound lane of the N2 near Sibaya Casino.

“Reaction officers and medics were dispatched to the scene. On arrival they located the hysterical female seated in the emergency lane. She told a female reaction officer she operates a stall in Durban‚” he said.

Balram said she boarded a taxi to visit her boyfriend.

“As they left Durban she asked the two why there were no other passengers in the minibus‚” he said.

The conductor put a cloth over her face and instructed her to be silent.

“She was driven to a cane field where both men took turns raping her at gunpoint. They then drove off and left her in the field‚” he said.

South Africa: HIV positive woman raped at gunpoint by taxi men

Police spokesperson Capt Nqobile Gwala said a case of rape was opened at Verulam police station.

“It is alleged by the complainant that [on Monday] at 2.30pm she stopped a taxi near the Moses Mabhida Stadium as she was going to KwaDukuza. While the taxi was on the N2 Sibaya turn off‚ the conductor covered her mouth while [the driver] pointed a firearm at her. The victim was then raped by the suspects before they left her on the side of the road‚” she said.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hit back at LeBron James to continue their war of words over the basketballer’s political activism.

The AC Milan striker, who is not happy with influential figures branching into politics, has refused to back down on his stance on the matter after James replied him that he will never stop using his platform to speak out about political issues such as racial inequality. 

‘Racism and politics are two different things. We athletes unite the world, politics divides the world,’ said the 39-year-old striker said on Tuesday. 

‘Everyone is welcome, it has nothing to do with where you are from, we do what we do to unite. We don’t do other things because we are not good at it, otherwise I would be in politics.

‘That’s my message. Athletes must be athletes, politicians must be politicians.’

The Swedish football legend previously told Discovery+: ‘[LeBron] is phenomenal at what he’s doing, but I don’t like it when people have some kind of status, they go and do politics at the same time. 

‘Do what you’re good at. Do the category you do. I play football because I’m the best at playing football.

‘I don’t do politics. If I would be a political politician, I would do politics. That is the first mistake people do when they become famous and they become in a certain status.

‘Stay out of it. Just do what you do best because it doesn’t look good.

Over the weekend, James had responded to Zlatan’s criticism by saying he was ‘the wrong guy to go at’ and won;t using his platform to speak out about political issues such as racial inequality. 

“I will never shut up about things that are wrong. I preach about my people and I preach about equality, social justice, racism, voter suppression – things that go on in our community.

“Because I was a part of my community at one point and saw the things that were going on, and I know what’s still going on because I have a group of 300-plus kids at my school that are going through the same thing and they need a voice.

“I’m their voice and I use my platform to continue to shed light on everything that might be going on, not only in my community but in this country and around the world.”

On Saturday morning, he also posted via his Instagram story, a message, which reads ‘When y’all gone learn that… I am more than an athlete.’

Over 386 Nigerian soldiers resigned recently – House of Representatives

About 386 soldiers voluntarily disengaged from the army due to medical and other reasons in the second quarter of 2020 as confirmed by the House of Representatives Committee on Army. 

Abdulrazaq Namdas, Chairman of the committee revealed this while presenting a report to the house yesterday March 2. 

Namdazs said 356 soldiers left the army after losing interest, 24 left to take up traditional titles; while six were discharged on medical grounds. He also revealed that records also indicated that 6,752 soldiers were discharged from the service in the last five years; while 25,655 soldiers had got enlisted within the same period.

The Chairman of the house  committee added that documents show that all the voluntarily discharged soldiers were Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO), ranging from Master Warrant Officer (MWO) to private (PTE).

The lawmaker said; 

“Those soldiers did not realize that engagement in the Army is more than a job; it entails personal commitment, regardless of welfare package.

“The documents show that all the voluntarily discharged soldiers were Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO), ranging from Master Warrant Officer (MWO) to private (PTE).

“Based on the facts available to the committee, there was no mass resignation from the army. Individual soldiers resigned on their own from their units.

“The army also told the committee that many soldiers also voluntarily resigned because they simply lost interest in the profession and wanted to take up or look for another job.

“Others voluntarily discharged from the service to take up traditional titles. There are also a few who voluntarily resigned for health reasons.

“Soldiers do not resign in group, rather each soldier resigns on his/her own choice as an individual by submitting his/her own hand-written resignation letter to his/her own unit.

“It has become a routine that every year soldiers resign voluntarily, and so the case of the resignations in the second quarter of 2020 is not unusual.”

The committee which recommended that the Nigerian Army improve on the welfare of its personnel, especially those in battle fields or other combat operations, to make them more committed to their job and to the nation, also called for an effective monitoring or follow-up in the delivery of the welfare packages in all the Army formations to ensure that they reach the soldiers in a fair and equitable manner.

Northern Traders insist on continuing food blockade to the South

Northern traders under the aegis ofAmalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) have vowed to continue the food blockade to the Southern part of the country, in spite of being at risk of losing their perishable goods. 

Awwalu Aliyu, an official of the union who spoke to TheCable stated that the aim of the food blockade is not to starve Southerners but to protest against the killing and destruction of properties belonging to Northerners. 

Aliyu who restated the group’s claim of Northerners being killed and losing properties especially during the #EndSARS protest and the recent Shasha market crisis in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, added that it will be better for them to lose food items locked up inside trucks in Jebba, Niger state than losing their lives. 

When asked if members of the union were not concerned about food items locked up inside trucks in Jebba, Niger state, going bad and leading to losses, Aliyu said; 

“It would be better to lose the food items than to lose lives.

“You’re talking about losing goods; which one is better, to lose a life or to lose property? Losing property is better than losing a life.

“We prefer and our people will prefer to lose those farm items or goods than to continue losing their lives. If you are alive, you can plant another thing, you can rear another cattle. But if you’re dead, you can’t do that again. Only the living can go to the farm.

“We do not want to destroy anybody. We do not want to kill anybody. The number of Yorubas and Ibos that reside in Kano and Kaduna alone is far more than the number of northerners in the entire south-west, south-south and south-east.

“Also, the investments of Yorubas and Igbos in Kano and Kaduna, running into billions of naira is more than the entire investments of northerners in the south-west, south-east and south-south if you remove Dangote. Our people are only petty traders, shoe shiners, fingernail cutters, wheelbarrow pushers, okada riders and so on.

“Our people in the south don’t have what southerners have in the north. They have farmlands, buildings and a lot of properties that run into billions. We do not intend to touch a needle out of it. We do not intend to destroy anybody’s property. What we want is to have our people protected from being killed.”

US imposes sanctions on Senior Russian Officials over Alexei Navalny’s poisoning

The United States government has imposed sanctions on senior Russian officials over the poisoning of top opposition leader Alexei Navalny.


The sanctions are being levied againt Russia’s top spy and six others, and will be followed up by sanctions from the European Union too.


US officials say they had concluded that the Russian government was behind the near-fatal nerve agent attack on Navalny last year, that made him receive treatment in Germany for months.


Navalny is the most high-profile critic of President Vladimir Putin and his imprisonement last month after returning to Russia resulted in large protests in the country.


Moscow denies involvement in his poisoning saying Navalny was not poisoned with a Novichok agent during a flight in Siberia.


The term Novichok – “newcomer” in Russian – applies to a group of nerve agents developed in a lab by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The agent paralizes muscles and can lead to death by asphyxiation.

The US say the sanctions will be imposed on seven senior Russian officials and 14 entities involved in chemical and biological production.


“Russia’s attempt to kill Mr Navalny follows an alarming pattern of chemical weapons use by Russia,” one official said.


Under the sanctions, the assets of the officials in the US are frozen.


Those targeted include Alexander Bortnikov, who heads the FSB, Russia’s main intelligence agency, as well as deputy Defence Ministers Alexei Krivoruchko and Pavel Popov.


The sanctions are the first imposed on Russia by the administration of President Joe Biden. 


The EU announced on Tuesday March 2 that it had targeted four Russian government officials. They are Alexandr Kalashnikov, the head of the Russian prison system, Alexandr Bastrykin, chairman of the Investigative Committee, Chief Prosecutor Igor Krasnov, and Viktor Zolotov, who heads the National Guard.


The sanctions include travel bans and asset freezes.


Early on Tuesday Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated his claim that the West was “hiding the facts that could help to understand what had happened” to Navalny and was unfairly punishing Russia.


“We have repeatedly expressed our position in regards to illegitimate unilateral sanctions that… are used by the colleagues from the United States and those who take an example from them, the European Union,” he said.

Bunny Wailer,Reggae legend, a founding member of The Wailers, is dead

Reggae legend and three-time Grammy winner, Bunny Wailer, has died at the age of 73. 

The Jamaican singer, who was a founding member of The Wailers, alongside Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, died on Tuesday, March 2, at the Andrews Memorial Hospital in the Jamaican parish of St. Andrew, his manager, Maxine Stowe, told The Associated Press. 

His cause of death is yet to revealed. But Local newspapers had reported that the singer whose real name was Neville O’Riley Livingston, suffered his second stroke in July 2020 and has been in and out of the hospital since. 

The Wailers were founded by Marley, Wailer, and Peter Tosh in 1963.Wailer was the last surviving founding member after Marley and Tosh died in 1981 and 1987, respectively. 

During an interview with NPR in 2016, Wailer explained why he chose to keep his last name long after leaving the band in 1974.

“Because I didn’t leave the Wailers,” he said. “I’m still here, representing the Wailers.”

Wailer won three Grammys for his work on “Hall Of Fame – A Tribute To Bob Marley’s 50th Anniversary,” “Time Will Tell – A Tribute To Bob Marley” and “Liberation (Album).”

Hero saves Toddler’s life as it falls from 12 story building (video)

A delivery driver in Vietnam is being called a hero after he miraculously caught a toddler who fell from a 12th-floor balcony.

Nguyen Ngoc Manh, 31, was sitting in his truck, waiting to deliver a package to a residence in Hanoi on Sunday, Feb 28, when he heard a child crying and a woman screaming overhead.

He said that he initially brushed off the commotion as just a kid having a tantrum.

But when Manh noticed people on the street panicked and shouting, he rolled down his window and looked up. To his horror he saw a little girl dangling 164-feet in the air, VN Express International reported.

The heart-stopping moment was captured on video and shared on social media.

Manh, a father himself, immediately exited his truck. Trying to gauge where the girl may land, he climbed a 6-foot wall between where he was stopped and the apartment complex.

“I scaled the wall and saw that she could fall onto the metallic roof of the house used to store electric generators for the complex, so I tried to climb on top of it,” Manh told VN Express.

“I made it, but couldn’t stand firmly, as the roof was crooked.”

As the girl lost her grip on the balcony railing and started falling, Manh slipped. But he flung himself forward and caught the toddler.

She wasn’t crying, he said, but blood was dripping from her mouth.

“She looked so much like my child at home. I was so confused, only able to tell her, ‘Please, please, I’m here now,'” Manh told VN Express International.

The little girl was taken to a hospital, where doctors treated her for a dislocated hip, but said she had no other injuries.

Manh sprained his arm catching her. 

Many on social media hailed Manh as a hero, but he told VN Express he doesn’t care for the label. He said he just wants to “do good.”

Court dissolves David Adefeso’s restraining order against his ex. Tamar Braxton

A restraining order against Tamar Braxton which was filed by her ex-Nigerian boyfriend, David Adefeso, in a Los Angeles court, has been dismissed.

According to TMZ, the 43-year-old reality star and her ex failed to attend the Tuesday hearing, leading the court to dissolve the legal arrangement.

In September 2020, Adefeso filed  for a restraining order against Tamar, who is the younger sister of R&B staple Toni Braxton amid claims that she had made death threats against him, and had assaulted him while he was driving.

Appearing on The Tamron Hall Show last October,Tamrar denied her ex’s claims.

‘I am a survivor a domestic violence relationship,’ she told Hall. ‘And not at any point [were] David and I in an abusive relationship.’

She also claimed that they had audio recordings which proved her innocent of any physical abuse in the exchange.

She told Hall: ‘He has the videotape. He has it. It was in his car. Release it.’

Adefeso told People in September in a statement that he wished Braxton the best in terms of her ‘mental and emotional stability,’ enunciating that he was ‘the victim in this situation.’

‘As I document in the filing, I am actually the victim of domestic abuse,’ he said. ‘One in seven men experience severe physical violence, yet it remains a silent epidemic. As humiliating as this is, I must speak out for my own truth and others who do not have a platform.’

He continued: ‘And although not part of the filing, I must affirm here and now that I have never physically abused Tamar before, during or after our relationship. Period. I want to resolve our legal issues and move on with my life to focus on my business, my family and the future.’

Tamar Braxton and David Adefeso started dating in 2018 before their split in 2020.

EFCC Probe: EFCC asks CCB to produce Tinubu’s asset declaration form

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission probe of All Progressives Congress Chieftain, Bola Tinubu has taken a different turn as the anti-graft agency has asked for copies of the former Governor of Lagos state asset declaration form from the Code of Conduct Bureau. 

The Peoples Gazette had first reported that the investigation into Tinubu began last year after the removal of erstwhile Chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

The letter marked CR/3000/EFCC/LS/Vol4/322, dated November 6, 2020 and addressed to the Code of Conduct Bureau, was signed by the then Lagos zonal head, Abdulrasheed Bawa who is now the Chairman of the EFCC.

It read; 

 “In view of the above, you are kindly requested to furnish the commission with the outstanding requested information of Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu.

“This request is made pursuant to Section 38(1) and (2) of the EFCC Act 2004.”

A senior EFCC official who confirmed the authenticity of the letter, told Punch that it was part of a wider probe.

The source added that  the probe was sequel to some petitions written against Tinubu since 2018 which Magu had failed to act on.

He said; 

“The letter is authentic. The EFCC is in receipt of several petitions against Tinubu including one involving alleged fraud in Alpha Beta Consulting.”

Crime: 13 suspected “Yahoo Yahoo” arrested in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on March 2, arrested 13 persons for their alleged involvement in cyber-crime.

The suspects are: Idris Ridwan, Shonnaike Adejumobi, Afeez Kareem, Adedire David, Muodozie Patrick, Abidemi Smart, Damilare Gabriel, Foluwako David, Adeleye Smart, Jimoh Olaitan, Olabode Thomas, Akinseye Mayowa, and Macaulay Olawale.

According to the EFCC, they were arrested at their hideout at Gabriel Ajawa Close, Lekki, Lagos, following credible intelligence on their alleged criminal activities. They will soon be arraigned in Court.

In a related development, the Lagos Zonal Office secured the conviction and sentencing of five internet fraudsters before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Special Offences Court , Lagos State High Court, Ikeja.

The convicted fraudsters are Andre Agbai Kalu, Olaide Ibrahim Oladimeji, Michael Fatuase Makanjuola, Erekefi Omuedi, and Bakare Daniel Oluwadamilare.

They were arraigned on February 18, 2021, on separate charges bordering on possession of fraudulent documents contrary to Section 320 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Upon their arraignment, they pleaded “guilty” to the charge.

In view of their plea, the prosecuting counsel, Ahmed Yerima reviewed the case before the Court and tendered documents printed from their email accounts, as well as items recovered from them.

Delivering judgment on February 26, Justice Taiwo found them guilty of the offence and sentenced each of them to six months imprisonment with an option of fine of N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira).

The court also ordered the forfeiture of a Toyota 4Runner SUV, Lexus RX 330 and mobile devices recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Burna Boy to perform at the forthcoming Grammy Award premiere ceremony

Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has been confirmed as one of the performers at the 2021 Grammy pre-show which will be livestreamed on GRAMMY.com on March 14.

He will perform with Lido Pimienta, Poppy, Rufus Wainwright, and more ahead of the 63rd annual ceremony.

Burna Boy is also nominated in the Best Global Music Category alongside Tuareg desert rock group Tinariwen, NYC afrobeat outfit Antibalas, Brazilian-American Bebel Gilberto, and British-Indian sitar player Anoushka Shankar. 

The Best Global Music Category, previously known as the international category of Best World Music Album, was renamed to “make it more modern and inclusive.”

This is Burna Boy’s second Grammy nomination. His previous album, African Giant, was nominated at the 62nd Grammy Awards for ‘Best World Music Album’ but he lost the award to Angélique Kidjo.

Mitchell, who is averaging 24.4 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game this season, is headed to his second-straight All-Star appearance in four seasons. As of Tuesday, the Jazz have a 27-8 record, and they are locked in as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Iran rejects the proposed talks on nuclear deal with U.S

The Biden administration had proposed the talks as part of its efforts to negotiate a path back to the 2015 nuclear deal that was abandoned by Trump in 2018 paving the way to waves of economic sanctions on the country.

But even with a less hostile US administration now in power, Iran says it will not sit down for talks, for now.


A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that conditions are not ripe for informal nuclear talks between Iran, the U.S. and other world powers.

“There has been no change in the U.S. position and behavior yet, and the Biden administration has not only not abandoned Trump’s failed policy of maximum pressure, but has not even announced its commitment to fulfilling its overall commitments as part of the nuclear deal,” said Iranian spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh.


He added Iran won’t re-negotiate the nuclear deal and reiterated Iran’s longstanding insistence that the U.S. start the process by removing sanctions.

The US reacting to Iran’s statement said;
“While we are disappointed at Iran’s response, we remain ready to reengage in meaningful diplomacy to achieve a mutual return to compliance with the nuclear deal commitments,” a White House spokesman said.


“We will be consulting with our P5+1 partners on the best way forward,” the spokesman added, referring to the other parties to the nuclear deal: China, Russia, the U.K., France and Germany.

 The Iranian response to the U.S. proposal seems to be connected to a diplomatic effort by the U.S. and European signatories to pass a resolution against Iran at an upcoming meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The resolution is expected to criticize Iran for curtailing the access of nuclear inspectors to Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Yohan Blake, Olympic gold medallist, does not agree with taking covid-19 vaccine

Jamaican sprinter, Yohan Blake has said that he would rather miss the Tokyo Olympics than receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

This comes a month after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that receiving a vaccine would not be compulsory for athletes, but encouraged competitors to be vaccinated if possible before arriving in Japan “to contribute to the safe environment of the Games.

“Also out of respect for the Japanese people, who should be confident that everything is being done to protect not only the participants, but also the Japanese people themselves,” the IOC said.

Speaking over the weekend, two-time Olympic gold medallist and former 100m world champion, Blake said he would rather miss the Tokyo Olympics than receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

He was quoted by Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner as saying: “My mind still stays strong, I don’t want any vaccine, I’d rather miss the Olympics than take the vaccine, I am not taking it.

“I don’t really want to get into it now, but I have my reasons.”

“Follow your mind, don’t follow the crowd. At the same time, be respectful to each and every one. Don’t let no one take away your choice.”

The 31-year-old  finished as the silver medallist in the men’s 100m and 200m at London 2012 behind compatriot Usain Bolt, the duo then formed part of Jamaica’s gold medal-winning 4x100m relay team at Rio 2016.

Blake also finished fourth in the men’s 100m final at Rio 2016, but was unable to reach the 200m final.

Update: Court remands married man accused of ordering the murder of his pregnant lover in SA

A South African man, Ntuthuko Ntokozo Shoba, accused of ordering the murder of his pregnant lover, Tshegofatso Pule, remains in custody for now.

This is after his bail application in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court was on Monday, March 1, postponed to Friday, when a decision on bail is expected.

TM reported that Pule, a 28-year-old Johannesburg-based beauty products representative, was eight months pregnant when she was killed in June last year.

Muzikayise Malephane, the man who was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the murder said he was hired by Shoba to kill Pule.

Shoba is facing charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and defeating the ends of justice. He earlier appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on February 23. 

He was arrested after Malephane said in a plea agreement with the state that he had been hired to kill Pule. 

The motive for the murder was that Shoba feared his wife would find out about his lover’s pregnancy, according to Malephane, adding he had agreed to kill Pule after being offered R70,000.

Malephane, now serving a 20 year prison term said he had collected Pule from Shoba’s house under the pretence of being an e-hailing taxi driver. He shot her before hanging her from a tree in Durban Deep.

The initial plan, according to Malephane, was to hang Pule from a bridge in Maraisburg and take her phone to write a suicide message on her whatsapp status.

Malephane detailed that the first attempt on Pule’s life failed after she never pitched up for a job interview at a restaurant next to Goldreef City, where Shoba had arranged him (Malephane) to pick her up.

On 04 June 2020, Shoba informed Malephane that Pule would be visiting his place and that he would call him to collect her. After receiving the call from Shoba, he collected Pule and drove to Noordgesig where he shot Pule and drove to Durban Deep in Roodepoort, to hang her on a tree.

Pule’s lifeless body was discovered on 08 June 2020 and Malephane was arrested on 15 June 2020 and charged with murder, obstructing the ends of justice and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He is expected to testify against Shoba when the trial gets under way.

In it, Harry said he stepped back from this royal duties because he feared what happened to his mother would happen to Meghan.

“My biggest fear was history repeating itself,” said Harry, who has blamed media harassment for his mother’s death.

In a second clip, he added: “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her [Diana] going through this process by herself all those years ago. Because it’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we have each other.”

In another part of the interview, Oprah asked whether there had been a “breaking point” as she made reference to a comment by Meghan about royal life being “almost unsurvivable”.

Armed bandits attacked Amarawa village in Ilela local government area of Sokoto state on Monday, March 1 and killed ten persons while others sustained injuries. 

It was gathered that the gunmen, who stormed the village on motorbikes, kidnapped a wealthy businessman but the villagers tried to free him.

Cock accidently kills owner during cockfight

A man was killed by his cock after it slashed him with a knife attached to its leg at a banned cockfight in India.

The rooster, with a 3-inch knife tied to its leg, jumped up in panic and slashed its owner, 45-year-old Thangulla Satish, in his groin, last week, in an apparent attempt to escape, police inspector B. Jeevan said on Sunday, February 28.

‘The knife pierced him in the groin region,” local police told the Times of India. “It was a severe injury and he lost a lot of blood.

The incident occurred in Lothunur village in the southern state of Telangana.

Police said they were looking for more than a dozen people involved in the illegal event on 22 February.

The cock has been taken to a poultry farm for “protection” before being presented at a court of law as evidence of the cause of death, police told local media.

Cockfighting was banned in India in 1960 but the practice continues in many states and fights are often associated with Hindu festivals.

Benue: 7 female students were sent home as they were possessed by “familial spirit”

The authority of Universal Basic Education (UBE), Junior Secondary School, Nyiman layout, in Makurdi, Benue State has sent home all female students after a ‘familial spirit’ possessed seven of the girls. 

The headteacher of the school, Catherine Ahom, who disclosed this on Monday, said the familial spirit called “iyor genen” by the Tiv people attacked four students last Friday and three others on Sunday, which prompted the school authority to send all the female students home. 

Confirming the incident to the Nigerian Tribune, the Education Secretary, Makurdi Local Government Area Education Authority (LGEA), Patrick Aese, said the attack is popular among a section of Tiv people in Benue State.

“Our forefathers inherited it from their fathers and it has been with us. If it were to be in the village that it happened, they have particular herbs they will administer and within an hour they will come back to normal.” Aese explained.

“It is most common during burial and in most cases while whistling or making noise. Some colours like red trigger it among the affected people and when attacked, the affected people will be running and manifesting uncommon strength.” he added. 

Aese, however, said the attack was “not contagious neither is it transferable.”

Steve Cotterill readmitted to hospital with Covid-19 related pneumonia

Former Engish striker, Steve Cotterill has been re-admitted to hospital suffering from Covid-pneumonia.


The 56-year-old, who is the coach of League One side, Shrewsbury Town, returned home from the hospital on 16 February having received extensive treatment for Covid-19 during a 33-day stay. 

A statement from the Sky Bet League One club read: “Shrewsbury Town Football Club is disappointed to report Steve Cotterill has been re-admitted to the hospital. Following extensive treatment for Covid-19, Steve returned home from the hospital on February 16th.


“However, Town’s manager has returned to the hospital over the weekend as he is suffering from Covid-pneumonia. The club wishes Steve all the best in his recovery.”

Cotterill’s assistant and stand-in Town boss Aaron Wilbraham said in today’s press conference: “It’s a bit of a negative update really.


“The manager has been has been admitted back into hospital yesterday, he’s been bad since the middle of last week.

“Speaking to him I could tell with his breathing and coughing he was quite bad, he was in A&E in the morning and on the ward in Bristol after.


“It’s obviously caused by the Covid-19, but it’s such bad news. He’s the type of bloke to not miss a day’s work, for him to be off ill all this time, feel like he’s getting back in having time at home with his wife to then get this other setback.

“But I know how strong and tough he is, he’ll deal with it no problem. It’s just another case of antibiotics, drips, and another week in the hospital.


“I just feel really gutted for him. I know from all my time with him he never takes a day off, when he came to Shrewsbury he never went home to Bristol, he was in on the Sundays, Wednesday, when the boys were away, trying to improve.


“Hearing that yesterday was a bit of a blow but it’s something that he will deal with. I’ve just told all the boys and we’re all supporting him and wishing him back here.

“He’ll be fighting it no problem and fighting to get through it, it’s just so frustrating for him to end up back in hospital.”

A woman begs the court to intervene as her husband evicts her from her matrimonial home

A mother-of-six has asked the Court of Appeal in Benin City to void an order which her estranged husband relied on to evict her from her matrimonial home.

Mrs. Agnes Ikpea, 64, who has six adult children with her estranged husband, Chief Leemon Ikpea, was thrown out of their home in Banana Island, Lagos.

Her estranged husband, Chief Ikpea had filed a petition at the Edo State High Court in Benin in which he sought the dissolution of his marriage of 39 years to Agnes. Along with the petition, Chief Ikpea also filed an ex-parte application asking the court to order his wife to vacate the matrimonial home in Banana Island.

Justice Acha had refused Mrs Ikpea’s application to transfer the case to Lagos on the premise that both parties reside in the state.

On February 17, 2021, Justice J. I. Acha granted the husband’s application.

The judge, however, directed the petitioner to provide suitable accommodation for his wife around the Island.

The judge ruled: “It is hereby ordered that petitioner should provide a suitable apartment by way of accommodation within Victoria Island, Lekki axis or anywhere convenient within Lagos outside Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos forthwith.”

Following the ruling, Mrs. Ikpea’s lawyers filed an appeal, which they served to Chief Ikpea and his lawyers in Benin.

Agnes’ counsel, while faulting the order of the high court said: “Ordering the respondent to vacate her matrimonial home during the pendency of divorce proceedings has the effect of determining the divorce case prematurely.”

They also applied for a stay of execution of the order and an injunction restraining Chief Ikpea from carrying out the order pending the hearing of her appeal.

However, Mrs Ikpea alleged that her husband disregarded the appeal and the motion for stay of execution and went ahead to throw her out. She said that with the help of some hefty men, her husband threw her out bare-footed without providing her with any suitable alternative accommodation as ordered by the court.

Woman killed and buried in shallow grave after the kidnappers collected N650,000 ransom from her children

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command at the weekend exhumed the decomposing body of a 54-year-old woman killed and buried in a shallow grave by kidnappers after collecting N650,000 ransom from her family. 

The woman identified as Mrs Philomina Ogadi from Otolokpo in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta was abducted last week by a nine-man gang. 

The kidnappers killed Ogadi and buried her body in a bush along Benin-Agbor-Onitsha expressway in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state. 

According to the victim’s eldest son, one of the suspects lived in the same apartment with his mother before she was kidnapped and murdered.

One of the suspects led the state Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations, Faleye Olayele and other police officers to the shallow grave where they buried the victim.

The apprehended suspects confessed to the crime. One of them claimed that it was his first attempt at kidnapping and robbery.

Briefing journalists at the state police headquarters in Asaba, the Commissioner of Police, Ari Mohammed Ali, said the woman’s body was found with gunshot injuries on her head. 

He assured that the police will unravel the real circumstances behind the murder of the victim and bring all the culprits to book. 

“Having killed the woman and buried her in a shallow grave, they did not stop there, they went on calling the children and collecting ransom. So far, they have collected N650,000 from her children after killing the woman,” the Commissioner stated. 

“They made the children to believe that their mother was still alive. They did a video recording of their mother and played before the children, making them to believe that their mother was still alive.” he added.

Freed Jangebe schoolgirls abducted by bandits last Friday in the State House (photos)

Zamfara state government this morning March 2 received the Zamfara school girls who just regained freedom from their captors.

Recall that 317 schoolgirls of Government Secondary School in Jangebe, Zamfara State, were abducted by bandits on Friday, February 26.

The state governor, Bello Matawalle, via his social media handle, announced that he received the girls this morning.

”Alhamdulillah! It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe.”

Lady Gaga’s dog-walker shares horrifying ordeal he had with dog snatcher who shot him

Ryan Fischer, Lady Gaga’s dog-walker has spoken out for the first time from his hospital bed about his “very close call with death” 

Fischer was shot in the chest last week by a dognapper with a semi-automatic handgun in Hollywood, Los Angeles while out on a walk with Gaga’s dogs.

A man and an accomplice took two of Lady Gaga’s bulldogs, Koji and Gustav.

A third bulldog, Miss Asia, was unharmed and wasn’t kidnapped.

Fischer has now credited his survival to the dog calling it his “guardian ayan Fischer.”

Lady Gaga’s dogs were recovered Friday night, after a woman brought the dogs unharmed to a Los Angeles police station.

Authorities said the woman found the dogs and was uninvolved in the incident. Police have yet to identify any suspects.

Fischer has now revealed his experience.

“My panicked screams calmed as I looked at her, even though it registered that the blood pooling around her tiny body was my own,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Monday night, March 1.

“I cradled Asia as best I could, thanked her for all the incredible adventures we’d been on together, apologised that I couldn’t defend her brothers, and then resolved that I would still try to save them… and myself,” Fischer wrote.

Fischer tagged Gaga in his Instagram post: “your support as a friend, despite your own traumatic loss from your kids, was unwavering”.

“Your babies are back and the family is whole… we did it!”

He added that, although his life had “taken a very sudden and unexpected turn”, he was glad the dogs were safe and hoped the criminals would be brought to justice.

Nigeria will receive over 3 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID19 vaccine today

The Federal government has announced that Nigeria is scheduled to take delivery of 3.92 million doses of the COVID19 vaccine on Tuesday, March 2.

The delivery will mark the first arrival of COVID19 vaccine in the country and make Nigeria the next West African country to benefit from the COVAX Facility after Ghana, and Cote d’Ivoire. 

A statement from Dr. Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director and Chief Executive of the NPHCDA, reads in part

“The arrival of this vaccine is the result of the commitment of the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of His Excellency, President Muhammandu Buhari, the support of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the guidance of the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

We are fully prepared to receive and deliver the vaccine to eligible Nigerians as we have commenced the training of health workers and ensured that cold chain facilities are ready at all levels. We have a robust cold chain system that can store all types of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the required temperature. We are therefore confident that we will have a very effective roll-out of the vaccine, starting with our critical healthcare workers, who are in the frontline in providing the care we all need”, Dr Shuaib added.

The delivery of the AstraZeneca vaccine is part of an overall 16 million doses planned to be delivered to Nigeria in batches over the next months by the COVAX Facility, as part of an unprecedented global effort to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

Nigeria plans to vaccinate at least 70% of eligible Nigerians aged 18 years and above in four phases within two years.

Oba’s daughters of late the Alaye-Aba of Aba, sue Ogboni society for allegedly hijacking his corpse

The Osugbo Society of Ijebuland also known as the Ogboni Society have been sued by the daughters of the late the Alaye-Aba of Aba, Aiyepe, Ogun State, Oba Rauf Adebayo Raji-Suleimon for allegedly hijacking his corpse. 

Mrs Aderonke Egunjimi, Mrs Tiwalade Abass and Mrs Adeyemi Joseph who instituted a N50 billion lawsuit against the society through their lawyer Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN, described their late father as a devoted and practising Muslim who performed pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina and had several awards and recognitions by Muslim Societies because of his contributions to the Islamic faith.

Recounting how members/representatives of the society forcibly took their father’s corpse away after they had dug a grave, set up canopies for visitors and concluded funeral arrangements to bury their father according to Islamic rites on January 24, 2021, the late Monarch’s daughters sought for a mandatory injunction compelling the society to return the corpse forthwith to their custody at the applicants’ Family House being at No 1, Alaye Aba Street, Aba Quarters, Aiyepe, Ogun State.

The defendants in the suit are; Chief Adeleke Adetola Dako (1st defendant), Chief Mojid Ogunmefun (2nd defendant), Lekan Adekoko (3rd defendant), Chief Ebenezer Ogunlala (4th defendant), Chief Fagbola Adeniyi (5th defendant), Kazeem Adeleke (6th defendant), Taorid Jimoh (7th defendant) and Abiodun Adeleke (8th defendant).

The Oba’s daughters who further accused members of the society of infringing on their rights to privacy and family life and depriving their father of a befitting burial, also asked the court to declare the conduct and practice of the 1st to 15th unconstitutional, illegal, vexatious, barbaric, obnoxious, immoral and repugnant to the dictates of civil order as enshrined in the constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights 2004.

The applicants are further asking the court for an order restraining Ijebu Traditional Council from giving any directions or orders to the 1st to 15th respondents contrary to the reliefs sought by the applicants.

The Nation reported that in an affidavit in support of Originating Motion on Notice deposed to by the deceased’s younger brother, Alhaji Yisa Oloyede Sulaimon, he stated that traditionally, members of the Osugbo Society act as enforcers of the decisions of Obas in Ijebuland.

Both Barcelona CEO and ex. Barcelona President were arrested on corruption charges after Camp Nou raid

Former Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu has been arrested following a raid on the club’s offices on Monday, March 1. 

He was arrested with Barcelona’s CEO Oscar Grau and head of legal services Roman Gomez Ponti after Spanish police entered Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium in a search and seize operation.

According to Cadena SER radio, they were arrested on suspicion of “unfair administration, corruption between individuals and money laundering.”

The arrest comes amid the continued investigation into ‘BarcaGate’, in which club officials were accused of launching a smear campaign against current and former players who were critical of the club and then-president Bartomeu.

In September, it was reported that the Catalan police had filed a report to the judge investigating Barcelona’s hiring of social media consultancy I3 Ventures and ‘possible economic crimes’ 

According to El Mundo, Barcelona paid up to 600 percent above the going rate for the services of I3 Ventures who were employed to monitor Barcelona’s social media.

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, New World Bank DG, reacts to apology from Swiss Newspaper that tagged her “grandmother”

United States opposed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has reacted after a Swiss Newspaper issued an apology for referring to her as “grandmother” while reporting that she is the new Director General of World Trade Organisation (WTO).

“This grandmother will be the new Chief of the World Trade Organisation,” the newspaper had written.

This elicited criticisms from all over the world as people questioned why “grandmother” was all she could be qualified as despite her achievements.

Nordwestschweiz has now issued an apology.

“We apologize for this editorial mistake,” the statement reads in part.

Nicolas Sarkozy, ex. French president, goes to jail for corruption

France’s former president, Nicolas Sarkozy was on Monday, March 1 found guilty of corruption and influence-peddling and sentenced to three years in prison with two of them suspended.


The 66-year-old, who was president from 2007 to 2012 was accused of forging a “corruption pact” with his lawyer and a senior magistrate. Judges said there was “serious evidence” of collaboration between the three men to break the law.

The case dates back to 2014 after investigators from the newly-created Parquet National Financier (National Financial Prosecutor’s Office) tapped Sarkozy and his lawyer, Thierry Herzog’s phones over allegations the former president had illegally received millions of euros from the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi to fund his successful 2007 presidential campaign.

Phone conversations recorded between Sarkozy and Herzog made investigators suspect the former French leader had offered to use his contacts to get the judge Azibert a coveted position in Monaco, in exchange for information about the investigation into the Bettencourt case.

On January 30, 2014, Herzog told Sarkozy of an exchange he’s had with “Gilbert”, a high magistrate not instructing his case, but who apparently “had access” to confidential documents, according to AFP.


Two days later, Sarkozy demanded his lawyer call him back on a phone line he had under an assumed name, Paul Bismuth, because he suspected his official number was being tapped.

A few days later, Herzog reiterated that Azibert was optimistic about Sarkozy’s prospect over the Bettencourt case. He mentioned that Azibert was interested in a high-ranking position in Monaco to which Sarkozy replied: “I’ll help him”.

Herzog added that Azibert had told him he did not dare ask for “a helping hand” and that he had replied: “You’re kidding, with what you’re doing…”

Later in the month, as Sarkozy is preparing to travel to Monaco, Herzog reportedly reminded him “to say a word for Gilbert” if possible. 

Sarkozy assured him he would “take the necessary steps”, AFP reported but two days later, on his official line, says that he did not put in a word because “it bothers me to ask for something” of the Monegascan Minister of State whom he does not know very well.

Investigators believe the turnaround can be explained by the fact the two men had then just learnt their unofficial line was also tapped. Sarkozy refutes this.

On March 3, during a phone call with Azibert, Herzog said that “the necessary steps were taken in Monaco”. “I’ll tell you in person”, he also said.

“We were forced to say certain things on the phone,” he added, “because we learnt some things.”

However, it’s unlikely the former president will spend a day in jail. The one-year prison sentence can be served with certain conditions, including the wearing of an electronic bracelet, or limited home confinement.

Sarkozy is expected to appeal against the conviction.

His lawyer, Thierry Herzog, and the senior judge, Gilbert Azibert, also denied wrongdoing. But Both were handed the same sentence as Sarkozy. Herzog, who was also slapped with a five-year professional ban, has appealed the ruling.

Prosecutors had requested two years of prison and a two-year suspended sentence for all three defendants over what they said was a “corruption pact.”

“No pact has ever existed,” Sarkozy told the court. “Neither in my head nor in reality.” “I want to be cleared of that infamy,” he added.

India: Nigerian arrested for allegedly for defrauding an old man of over 11K euros

A 38-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested in Junagadh, Gujarat in connection with a N5m online fraud.

The Nigerian identified as Prince Chukwama Hezekaiah alias George Martins alias Emmanuel Chukwuma Hezekaiah, was arrested in New Delhi’s Dwarka area.  

 
According to Junagadh District Police, the accused allegedly duped a 70-year-old man of over Rs 1.32 crore (5,032,500,000) by promising to bring him donation from foreign countries for his proposed charitable trust.

Earlier on January 13, the victim, Jivraj Pansuriya, a resident of Mendarda town of Junagadh district, lodged a complaint against unidentified persons with cyber police station after he was cheated of Rs 1.32 crore.

The police said Pansuriya wanted to set up a trust hospital and in this connection came into contact with Hezekaiah who promised to bring him donation from foreign countries for his proposed charitable trust.

An unsuspecting Pansuriya believed in the Nigerian’s words and started sending money to him and his associates through online transactions. 

Finally, when the septuagenarian realised that he was being cheated, it was already too late and he had already sent Rs 1.32 crore to the frauds.

“Based on the mobile numbers and bank account numbers, we traced the accused to New Delhi’s Dwarka and sent a team to nab him. We brought the accused to Junagadh and he has confessed similar crimes as well,” said a police officer.

Police said that the accused also confessed to having committed three more crimes of similar nature in Gurugram, Rajasthan and Mumbai.

Police prepared a list of mobile numbers and bank account numbers through which the accused gang were siphoning money from online victims.

The 78th annual Golden Globe Awards held on Sunday, February 28, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in New York City’s Rainbow Room, and the virtual event was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. 

The biggest winners of the 78th Golden Globes were “Nomadland” and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.” 

The two films earned awards for best picture; “Nomadland” for the drama category and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” for the comedy or musical division.

Chloe Zhao, the director behind “Nomadland,” became the first woman to win the best director award since 1984 when Barbara Streisand secured an award for “Yentl.”

The late Chadwick Boseman won a posthumous award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. The Black Panther star won for his portrayal of a trumpet player named Levee in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

The award ceremony held on Sunday, February 28, at the famed Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, two months after it was originally scheduled to take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While some celebrities were at the awards ceremony in person as presenters, most-watched from their homes and shared images of their outfits from their garden or in their living room.

American-Mexican film actress, Salma Hayek alongside Margot Robbie, Renee Zellweger, and Gal Gadot walked the socially distant red carpet while other stars appeared virtually – including nominees.

“Our election process is worse than that of a third-world country” – Donald Trump

Former US president, Donald Trump was back in action in Florida on Sunday night, February 28 at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), his first public address since leaving office in January 20.

Trump told conservatives at the conference that he is considering running for the White House for a third time while also revealing that he won’t form a new political party as that will make the Republican party weaker and the Democratic party stronger.
 

In a ‘Trumpism’ laden speech, the former president repeated false claims of election fraud and accused Democrats of “recklessly eliminating our border”.

Trump also attacked tech firms like Facebook and Twitter saying they “should be punished with sanctions when they silence conservative voices”.

“They are radicals who want to turn America into a socialist country”.

He also accused the Democrats of using Covid in order to cheat the American people.

“Our election process is worse than that of a third-world country,” he says.

“There should be comprehensive election reforms, they changed the laws due to China virus to make the election illegal”.

“Illegal aliens and dead people voted’

“The level of dishonesty is not to be believed,” “It’s such a disgrace. This election was rigged and the Supreme Court didn’t want to do anything about it.

“They didn’t have the guts or the courage to make the right decision.”

Trump then got the biggest roar of the evening when he suggested he might run for president again.

“I may even decide to beat them for a third time”, he says, presumably counting his victory over the Democrats in 2016 along with his defeat to Joe Biden in 2020.

“Hello CPAC – do you miss me yet?” To which there is a deafening scream from the crowd.

Trump said the journey he began four years ago “is far from over” and “just getting started”. “In the end we will win,” he says.

“I am not starting a new party,” he says. “We have the Republican Party. It’s going to unite and be stronger than ever before.”

Trump then turned to women’s sport, claiming that Democrats are destroying women’s sport by allowing trans women to compete.

“It’s crazy, it’s crazy what’s happening,”  Trump says. “Women’s sports as we know it will die.

“Somebody said, ‘that’s going to be very controversial'” and pauses to wait for the cheers before adding: “That’s OK, you haven’t heard anything yet”.

He then criticised the White House for removing sanctions on Iran as Washington prepares to negotiate a new nuclear deal.

“Had we had a fair election, we would have had a deal with Iran within the first week.”

Trump concluded his speech by predicting that in the coming years, “a Republican president will make a triumphant return to the White House.”

“And I wonder who that will be,” he said, in a typical nod toward a third campaign in 2024. “I wonder who that will be. Who? Who? Who will that be? I wonder.”

Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich’s Winger, Snubs Nigeria For Germany

Bayern Munich winger, Jamal Musiala, has confirmed his decision to play for Germany on the international stage.

Musiala previously starred for England’s under 21 but was eligible to play for Nigeria.

The 17-year-old was born in Stuttgart to a German mother and British-Nigerian father.

He moved to England at seven, where he played for the Chelsea academy.

Musiala then moved back to Germany to join Bayern Munich in July 2019.

The teenager played two games for Germany’s U16 side in 2018.

He has now told The Athletic:

“What is best for my future? Where do I have more chances to play?

“In the end, I just listened to the feeling that over a long period of time kept telling me that it was the right decision to play for Germany, the land I was born in. Still, it wasn’t an easy decision for me.”

Timo Werner is embracing a fresh start at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel

The German forward endured a tough time under Frank Lampard, but hopes his spark will be rekindled with a fellow countryman at the helm

Timo Werner is embracing a fresh start at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel after admitting to missing “so many chances” in his early Blues career with Frank Lampard at the helm.

A club legend at Stamford Bridge was the man to bring a prolific Germany international forward to English football.

Roman Abramovich sanctioned a £47.5 million ($66m) move for Werner, and saw him net eight goals early on, but a managerial change was made with the 24-year-old in the midst of a barren run that delivered one strike in 20 games for club and country.

What has been said?

Werner, who netted his first goal for Tuchel in a 2-0 win over Newcastle , has told Sky Sports of having a fellow countryman at the helm: “When you have a new manager it is, every time, a new beginning for everybody, so it was a new beginning for me as well, because I said, ‘OK, I missed so many chances, I missed so many points and maybe I will start now.’

“I understood the old manager very well, it was not because of the language. But I think when you can talk German to someone, you can explain some things easier, and maybe he [Tuchel] would explain things easier than the old manager, for example, because it can be different when you talk to someone in your own language.

“Maybe misunderstanding a word can make a sentence completely different.

“I think he has changed me in this way to give me his trust and change my confidence.

“I don’t care about the missed chances or the past. I want to look to the future to get the team back to the top and to score goals.”

Werner’s record at Chelsea

Timo Werner is embracing a fresh start at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel

A big-money addition has taken in 34 appearances for the Blues.

Across those outings, he has found the target on 10 occasions and contributed six assists.

Questions were asked of his value to the collective cause when enduring struggles in front of goal, which stretched to 1,000 minutes at one stage, but a regular role has been retained.

Werner was winning penalties and teeing up others when suffering a barren run on an individual front, while his work rate and positive mentality have never been in question.

The bigger picture

Tuchel is being backed to bring the best out of Werner and fellow Germany international Kai Havertz – another expensive addition that has failed to live up to expectations in west London.

That remains an ongoing process, but Chelsea are yet to suffer defeat through eight fixtures under the new coach.

Progress has been made to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and last-16 of the Champions League, while victory in a crunch clash with Manchester United on Sunday would lift the Blues back into the Premier League’s top four.

A 49-year-old Nigerian man, Phillip Tersso, pictured left, has been arrested for attempting to bury his wife of 10 years, Mary, alive after finding out that she is pregnant for his friend, Aondowase Chiahemba.

Tersso, a native of Yelwata community, Nasarawa State, met mary, 12 years ago and got married to her two years later. They lived happily as a couple but battled infertility as their marriage of 10 years failed to produce a child. Tersso however became ill and was taken to different hospitals for treatment all to no avail.

On his sickbed, his wife, Mary informed him that she will be getting married when he dies and that she was already pregnant for another man who she revealed to be his friend.

Angry that his wife would get involved with another man who happens to be his friend, Tersso upon his recovery, concluded plans to kill Mary and then himself.

“Words cannot describe the agony of finding out after 10 years of marriage that my friend impregnated my wife.

I cannot blame Mr Aondowase but my wife. I truly feel as if someone has ripped my heart out, more so that I was down with sickness and she was busy sleeping with a close friend.

It is the cruelest betrayal in my entire life, my wife is a big disappointment and I can never forgive her. I felt utterly duped and cheated when she opened her mouth and told me with a vow not to abort it.

My whole world has been turned upside down. The only way to pay her back is to bury her alive, so that she would feel the pains of wishing me dead while I was sick.

I cannot imagine my own wife telling me that if I die, she will remarry. Besides, she is already pregnant for the man.

I lost my temper when I recovered from my illness and decided that she should die before me since she wished me death.

I’m not regretting my actions or plans. Since she wanted me to die, I should send her to the grave alive so that her planned marriage after my death will not be possible.

She shouldn’t have been pregnant for another man while I was sick. It means she wished me death.

There is power in spoken words, so let her go into the grave before me, since I did not die as she prayed.”he told The Nation.

Speaking further, a distraught Tersso said

“Even though the fertility challenge was there, we were finding ways to address it.

I am fully aware that people were talking and asking questions. My family members were no longer comfortable with the way things were going; that we got married over 10 years now without any issue, and we were tracing the issue. But she lost patience and went into a deal with my friend

I suspected their closeness at a point and somebody raised the issue with me but I never believed my own wife could open her legs for my own friend, more so that I was very sick.

I also did not believe my friend would ever contemplate doing such to me, especially when I was down. But both of them have proved me wrong.

My anger is with my wife. When she told me that she was pregnant, both of us knew that I was not responsible for it, because we did not have sex during my sickness.

She has shamed me. She has ruined my life and I have decided that if I have my way, I will pay her back in almost the same way by burying her alive, because I don’t want to see her any longer in my life.

I want to eliminate her completely from this world. That was why I dug this grave to put her inside and cover her.”

Tersso said that he was not unaware of the consequences of his planned actions, but he could not understand why his wife would have an affair with his friend at the time he was sick, reiterating that burying his wife alive was the only punishment that could compare to what she did to him. He also said that Mary committed an abomination by having sex with a man other than her husband.

On her part, Mary said she regrets her action but will never abort the child.

“When my husband told me that he would cut me into pieces and put me in a sack, I thought he was joking. But he went ahead and dug a 10-feet grave beside his late father’s grave.

My offence was that when he was sick, I concluded that he might die because we went to several hospitals to no avail. We resorted to traditional herbs.

In the process, I decided to test my fertility with another man who, unfortunately, is his friend, and I took in. I refused to abort the pregnancy and never hid it from him when he recovered.

My neighbours advised me to seek refuge elsewhere since my husband’s illness had turned his brain. He was bitter and wanted to revenge by burying me alive. He wanted to kill me because I had sex with another man and I am pregnant for him.

I regret my actions. It was the devil’s work. I made a mistake and I feel so guilty. My husband and I have been trying for about nine years to have a baby, and if this baby is not his, it will destroy him.

I know from day one that he would feel bad, but I have no choice but to prepare his mind that the baby does not belong to him but to his close friend.

For about 10 years now, he was not able to get me pregnant and I decided to test my fertility elsewhere. My husband has been denying me sex. He had not slept with me for a long time before he fell sick.

I almost thought of leaving him because I am a human being and he cannot starve me of sex for that long. That also contributed to my mistakenly falling in love with his friend. I have feelings too”

Mary’s father who was also interviewed said he would not support any act of infidelity.

“I don’t support the idea of having sex with your husband’s friend just because you are desperate for a child, especially when he is sick. And then you have the guts to tell your husband about it.

Even at that, the husband over-reacted. His decision (to bury her alive) was not the best, and I wouldn’t have allowed him to go free.

I am not saying my daughter is right, but his plans were too shocking if he had succeeded. That is all I can say for now. But I thank God he did not succeed.”Mary’s father  said

Village elders, headed by Audu Ode, were said to be handling the matter, trying to sort out certain areas of grievances with Tersso before the option of handing him over to the appropriate authorities.

Audu said he would report the matter to the police but would plead with them to hold on until certain traditional rites are performed, adding that the man might be suffering from brain damage arising from his sickness.

Falana reacts to arrest of Salihu Tanko Yakasai ‘Dawisu’ who called for Buhari’s resignation

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has reacted to the arrest of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s former media aide, Salihu Tanko Yakasai ‘Dawisu’. 

Recall that Salihu was arrested and subsequently sacked by the Kano state governmemt after he called for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation over insecurity.

The Alliance for Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB) led by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria who demanded for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Tanko-Yankasai from “illegal custody”, recalled how leaders of the APC including Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinibu, Malam Nasir El-Rufai and Alhaji Lai Mohammed repeatedly asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign between 2013-2014. 

Falana wondered why Salihu would be arrested after many civil society, chieftains of the APC and both chambers of the National Assembly have called for Buhari’s resignation or impeachment over insecurity.

The statement read; 

“On Friday, February 27, 2021, Mr. Salisu Tanko-Yankassai, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state called on President Mohammadu Buhari to either guarantee the security of the Nigerian people or resign from office. Even though Mr. Tanko-Yankassai was legitimately exercising his freedom of expression enshrined in section 39 of the Constitution he was sacked by Governor Ganduje and arrested by the State Security Service. ASCAB has confirmed that Mr. Tanko- Yankassai is being held incommunicado in an undisclosed detention facility.

“Having regard to the fact that civil rights advocates, retired military officers and political party leaders including chieftains of the All Progressive Congress have repeatedly asked President Buhari to call it quits due to the worsening insecurity in the country there is no justification whatsoever for the arrest and detention of Mr. Tanko- Yankassai.

“In both chambers of the national assembly, there have been strident calls by legislators for President Buhari’s resignation or impeachment on the ground that criminal gangs have taken over the monopoly of violence in the country. Since such concerned citizens were never arrested the ongoing harassment of Mr. Tanko- Yankassai is high-handed, discriminatory, and illegal.

“It is on record that the APC and its leaders including General Mohammadu Buhari; National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinibu; Malam Nasir El-rufai and Alhaji Lai Mohammed repeatedly called for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s resignation between 2013 and 2014. Yet they were never subjected to any form of intimidation for exercising their freedom of expression at the material time. Since the call for President Buhari’s resignation is likely to continue to be made by other concerned individuals and groups over the virtual collapse of the security architecture of the neocolonial State it is pertinent to draw the attention of the State Security Service to the case of Arthur Nwankwo v The State 1985 6 NCLR 228 where the Court of Appeal charged the Nigerian people to engage in relentless criticism of democratically elected governments. In particular, Olajide Olatawura JCA (as he then was of blessed memory) had this to say:

“‘The decision of the founding fathers of the present Constitution which guarantees freedom of speech which must include freedom to criticise should be praised and any attempt to derogate from it except as provided by the constitution must be resisted. Those in public office should not be intolerant of criticism in respect of their office so as to ensure that they are accountable to the people. They should not be made to feel that they live in an ivory tower and therefore belong to a different class. They must develop thick skins and where possible, plug their ears with wool if they feel too sensitive or irascible.’

“In view of the foregoing, we demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Tanko-Yankassai from illegal custody. However, if the State Security Service has evidence that the political detainee has committed any criminal offence known to law he should be transferred to the Police for proper investigation and possible prosecution without any delay.”

A physically disabled Zimbabwean woman, Sinikiwe Kademaunga has announced that she is expecting her first child with her partner.

Kademaunga, 26, who was born without hands, knees and feet, took to Instagram to share photos of her burgeoning baby bump. 

“Hey guys. I cant believe i am going to be a whole mom, a whole mom guys. How great is God. 2020 was such a difficult year but God gave me a comforter, a blessing, a bestfriend and my pride. I know this child is going to be nothing but a blessing to us (dad and I) and generations to come. I cant wait to hold, kiss, touch, feel, smell you. I am so grateful.
Now i can post my full body pics in peace.” she wrote.

Kademaunga, who is currently making waves as a motivational speaker, said life was not easy for her while growing up. 

“When I was born it was very hard for my family to accept that I was born with a disability because at that time when a child was born with a disability, it was considered to be a curse from God,” she said.

Kademauga manages to do her own and others’ makeup and hair without hands using just her arms, which end at the elbow. She said once she decided to love, accept and be kind to herself the rest followed.

You are just beautiful in your own way. Believe in yourself, don’t let the world define you, or tear you down. Whatever dream that you have, somebody out there needs you, go out there fly high.” she said. 

Kademaunga, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from University of Cape Town, in 2019, launched her company SK, that specialises in motivational speaking and personal development.

Kademaunga said she understands reasons that drive people living with disabilities onto the streets to beg for alms.

“For us people living with disability, it is hard out there to compete with able bodied people. Looking for jobs and other opportunities. But I want to say to those people (living with disabilities), keep on working hard, it’s not the end of the world because you are living with disability and never look down upon yourself.”

Kademaunga, who calls herself “The Confidence Coach” said she has no regrets in life.

“Everything that has happened in my life, I take it as a learning opportunity. I take it as a learning curve that has led me to be the person I am now,” she said.

In 2016, she received recognition for her courage to confront her disability at Zimbabwe’s International Women’s Awards.

Myanmar: Military open fire on unarmed protesters killing over 18 and over 30 injured (photos/videos)

Myanmar’s military fired on protesters on Sunday, February 28, killing at least 18, the deadliest day since the anti-coup protests started this month.


According to the UN human rights office, deaths were reported in several cities including Yangon, Dawei and Mandalay as law enforcement used live rounds and tear gas on unarmed protesters.

However, on Sunday, social media footage showed protesters running away as security forces carrying live ammunition charged at them, and several people were carried away covered in blood.

The police crackdown which started on Saturday was expanded on Sunday as coup leaders attempt to end protests by civilians asking for release of their duly elected leaders.


According to reports despite the gunshots, civilians didn’t seem deterred and had set up road blocks and home made shields in an attempt to take on the security forces.

As the tension increased, many more protesters arrived, sitting down on the road and chanting. 


The United Nations Human Rights Office condemned the violence against protesters, saying it had “credible information” that at least 18 people had been killed on Sunday. More than 30 others have been injured.

“The people of Myanmar have the right to assemble peacefully and demand the restoration of democracy,” spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani said. 


“Use of lethal force against non-violent demonstrators is never justifiable under international human rights norms.”


According to local reports, at least four people had been killed in the largest city, Yangon, as police fired bullets, stun grenades and tear gas.


The protesters remained defiant. “If they push us, we’ll rise. If they attack us, we’ll defend. We’ll never kneel down to the military boots,” Nyan Win Shein told Reuters.

Another protester, Amy Kyaw, told AFP: “Police started shooting just as we arrived. They didn’t say a word of warning. Some got injured and some teachers are still hiding in neighbours’ houses.”

In the south-eastern city of Dawei, security forces moved to break up a rally. There are also reports of live rounds being used in that city with four reportedly killed.

 
In another large rally in Mandalay, police used water cannon and fired into the air killing one person.

 
The UN said deaths had also been reported in Myeik, Bago and Pokokku.

The number of arrests since the protests began has not been confirmed. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners monitoring group has put the figure at 850, but hundreds more appear to have been detained this weekend.


 Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s civilian leader has not been seen in public since she was arrested and detained by the military junta in the capital Nay Pyi Taw .

White House reacts to the sexual assault allegations against Governor Andrew Cuomo

The White House has reacted to allegations leveled against Democrat and Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo.


Two former female aides to Cuomo alleged this week that the governor attempted sexual assault and harrasment on them.


A lady, Boylan first accused Cuomo of kissing her on the lips and asking her to play “strip poker,”


Another former aide, Bennett?, 25,? alleged? on Saturday February 27, that the governor asked her inappropriate questions and told her he was open to relationships with women in their 20s, comments that left her feeling that he “wanted to sleep with me.” read Here .


Cuomo has since denied the allegations.


Beth Garvey, special counsel and senior adviser to Cuomo?,? ?63, ?said in a statement ?Saturday ?that Cuomo “has requested an independent review and all staff will cooperate in that endeavor. 


The White House has now responded to the allegations, stating that President Joe Biden backs an “independent review” of the sexual harassment claims.


Speaking to CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said;


“There should be an independent review looking into these allegations, and that’s certainly something he supports, and we believe should move forward as quickly as possible,?” 


“They’re serious. It was hard to read that story as a woman, and that process should move forward as quickly as possible?,? and that’s something we all support and the ?p?resident supports?,” Psaki said.?


Psaki was asked by CNN anchor Dana Bash whether the president believed the allegations from Charlotte Bennett and Lindsey Boylan about Cuomo.


“President Biden has been consistent that he believes that every woman should be heard, should be treated with respect and with dignity?.? Charlotte should be treated with respect and dignity, so should Lindsey?,” Psaki responded to Bash.?


On Thursday, days after the first allegations came out, Psaki told reporters at the White House that women who come forward with sexual harassment claims should have their voices heard and the allegations reviewed.

“Same-sex marriage will never happen during my tenure” – Nana Akufo-Addo (video)

The president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has declared that same-sex marriage will never happen during his tenure.



He made this declaration at the installation and enthronement of a program of an Anglican Archbishop held in Mampong on Saturday February 27.

In his words

”I have said this before and let me stress again that it will not be under the Presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo that same sex marriage will be legalised in Ghana. It will never happen. Let me repeat, it will never happen.”he said to the cheering audience.”he said

His declaration comes following the recent closure of a recently opened LGBTQ+ office in Accra, the capital city.

The office was opened but not many knew it was for the LGBTQ community. Immediately it came to light what the office was meant for, the police and the landlord of the building where it is situated, stormed the place and shut it down. This has caused a national discussion in Ghana.

Andrew Cuomo, New York Governor accused of sexual harassment severally

Seems like the problems facing New York governor, Andrew Cuomo keep piling up as another former aide of his has come forward with allegations of sexual harassment,  just days after his first accuser made her claims public. 


In a New York Times exclusive, Charlotte Bennett, an executive assistant and health policy adviser in the Cuomo administration until she left in November, alleged that Cuomo “asked her questions about her sex life, whether she was monogamous in her relationships and if she had ever had sex with older men.”

Bennett aged 25, described an incident that took place in June when she was “alone” with the governor aged 63 in his State Capitol office.


According to the New York times report, he allegedly asked her if she thought age made a difference in romantic relationships and that he was open to having relationships with women in their 20s, which were noted by the Times as “comments she interpreted as clear overtures to a sexual relationship.”

Bennett alleges that Cuomo never tried touching her, but that the governor’s “message” during that exchange was “unmistakable to her.”


“I understood that the governor wanted to sleep with me, and felt horribly uncomfortable and scared,” Bennett told the Times.


“And was wondering how I was going to get out of it and assumed it was the end of my job.”


According to the Times, Bennett disclosed the incident to Cuomo’s chief of staff Jill DesRosiers less than a week later and submitted a lengthy statement to Cuomo’s special counsel Judith Mogul at the end of the month. 


She was them transferred to another job as a health policy adviser, placing her on the opposite side of the Capitol building. 


Bennett told the Times she didn’t legally proceed with the case because she “wanted to move on” and that she was content with her new job.


Cuomo has now responded to the bombshell reports, claiming she came to him to reveal she was a sexual assault survivor, he was trying to be helpful towards her.


In a press release on Saturday February  27, Cuomo called Bennett a “hardworking and valued member of his team during COVID” who has “every right to speak out.”


“When she came to me and opened up about being a sexual assault survivor and how it shaped her and her ongoing efforts to create an organization that empowered her voice to help other survivors, I tried to be supportive and helpful,” Cuomo said in a statement, which was issued to the Times. 


“Ms. Bennett’s initial impression was right: I was trying to be a mentor to her. I never made advances toward Ms. Bennett nor did I ever intend to act in any way that was inappropriate. The last thing I would ever have wanted was to make her feel any of the things that are being reported.”


Cuomo added that he will “have no further comment” until a “full and thorough outside review” of Bennett’s claims is conducted and concluded. 


Cuomo’s special counsel Judith Mogul also released a statement, which read in-part, “Ms. Bennett’s concerns were treated with sensitivity and respect and in accordance with applicable law and policy… The determination reached based on the information Ms Bennett provided was that no further action was required which was consistent with Ms Bennett’s wishes.”


Lindsey Boylan, Cuomo’s first accuser, who was the former deputy secretary for economic development and a special adviser to Cuomo, published a bombshell essay Wednesday on the website Medium. 


She accused the governor of going “out of his way to touch me on my lower back, arms and legs,” forcibly kissing her on the lips during a one-on-one briefing, and suggesting that they “play strip poker” during a plane ride. 


Cuomo’s office denied Boylan’s harassment claims, calling them “simply false” and insisting the strip poker comment “did not happen.”

Boylan has now expressed her support for Bennett. 

“I am with you Charlotte. We are with you. Always,” Boylan wrote. “I am so proud of you Charlotte.”


Meanwhile, Cuomo faces another scandal over his controversial policy of ordering COVID-positive patients into nursing homes in the early months of the pandemic and is now reportedly facing investigations by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney over an alleged cover-up of nursing home deaths in his state.

Boko Haram releases a footage showing children undergoing combat training

Boko Haram terrorists have released a new video showing children undergoing religious and combat training in a camp.

HumAngle reports that the images show relatively young children dressed in combat-style clothing and balaclava participating in martial arts training, weapon handling training, and religious education class. At least two instructors and one child had what appeared to be the Zastava M21, likely captured from Cameroonian security forces.

Court stops Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, Tinubu’s daughter and others from collecting levies from Computer Village traders

Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of All Progressives Congress leader Bola Tinubu and 5 others have been barred by a Lagos state high court from imposing levies on traders at the Computer Village, Lagos.

This is coming a year after the traders embarked on a protest after Folasade who is also the Iyaloja-General of Lagos State, reportedly imposed leaders on them who introduced new levies. 

Punch reported that the order which is sequel to a fundamental human rights suit marked ID/9039MFHR/19, also barred Mrs. Bisola Azeez, Mr. Adeniyi Olasoji, Nofiu Akinsanya, Tony Ikani and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State from imposing such levies. 

The judgment which Justice Yetunde Pinheiro delivered, read in part; 

“I find that the 2nd and 3rd respondents’ imposition of levies on the applicants is illegal, null and void and therefore amounts to a violation of their fundamental rights.

“Accordingly, it is hereby ordered as thus: The first to fifth respondents by themselves, agents, levy collectors howsoever called are restrained from imposing levies and fines on the members of the 1st to 5th applicants at the Ikeja Computer Village in the Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State.”

In the letter titled, ‘Dear members, Our Court Victory against Iyaloja and Babaloja and Others in Computer Village, Ikeja’ and signed by the stakeholders’ Chairman and Secretary-General, Timi Famoroti and Jerry Mba, members were asked not to pay tax to Tinubu’s daughter or her representatives.

It read; 

 “This landmark judgement implies that the Iyaloja General, Chief Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, Mrs. Bisola Azeez, And Mr. Olasoji Adeniyi or their representatives or agents cannot collect any form of dues, levies or fines from the members of Ikeja Computer Village Market. Any collection in this regard is illegal.

“We, therefore, urge you not to submit yourself to any form of payment, intimidation and extortion. It is your right to defend yourself and report to your leaders if there is a violation of your fundamental human rights.

“Please ensure you document with concrete evidence and report any breach of your right to your leaders. This will help our legal action/s against any violators when necessary. We, therefore, urge every member to continue to pay your agreed dues to your various associations accordingly.”

Traders were also asked to pay their personal and company income, taxes, levies and others to the appropriate government agencies at the national, state and local governments when due.

OpenSSL: How to Upgrade OpenSSL on Centos 7 or RHEL 7

1. Introduction

OpenSSL is a library that provides cryptographic functionality, specifically SSL/TLS for popular applications such as secure web servers, MySQl databases and email applications. The list parameters standard-commands, digest-commands, and cipher-commands output a list (one entry per line) of the names of all standard commands, message digest commands, or cipher commands, respectively, that are available in the present openssl utility.

2. Requirements

You may need an operating system RHEL 7 or Centos 7 in your dedicated or vps server. Please make sure to set a hostname for your server and its dns is pointing to the IP address of the server.

3. Installation

Get the current version with “openssl version” and “yum info openssl” command :

# openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1e-fips 11 Feb 2013

You can also check the available version in the vendors directory too.

# yum info openssl

To download the latest version of OpenSSL, do as follows:

To manually compile OpenSSL and install/upgrade OpenSSL, do as follows:

# cd openssl-1.0.2a
# ./config
# make
# make test
# make install

If the old version is still displayed or installed before, please make a copy of openssl bin file :

# mv /usr/bin/openssl /root/
# ln -s /usr/local/ssl/bin/openssl /usr/bin/openssl

Now verify the OpenSSL version.

# openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.2e 3 Dec 2015


Note: Compiling Openssl major version may case issues with other system binaries. So please do the needfull to avoid the corruptions.

Over 400 inmates escape from Haiti prison leaving 25 people dead

More than 400 prisoners have escaped from the Croix-des-Bouquets prison in Haiti leaving 25 people including the prison director dead.

The escape which happened from a jail near the capital, Port-au-Prince on Friday February 26, lead to the death of bystanders who were caught up in the violence.

One of those who fled, a notorious gang leader named as Arnel Joseph, was killed hours after escaping.


Joseph, still wearing prison ankle cuffs, was a passenger on a motorcycle that was flagged down at a checkpoint, 

According to police spokesman Gary Desrosiers, Joseph, was still wearing prison ankle cuffs when he boarded a motorcycle .


The motorcycle was flagged down at a checkpoint but failed to stop.


Joseph then pulled a gun on officers who then shot and killed him, Desrosiers said.


Joseph was Haiti’s most-wanted gang leader before his arrest in 2019.


Eye Witnesses reported hearing bursts of gunfire as prisoners ran away from the prison.


Staff at a nearby clothing store told reporters that the prisoners forced them to give out clothing items.


The Croix-des-Bouquets jail was inaugurated in 2012 and was designed for a maximum capacity of 872 inmates

It’s not the first time jail outbreaks is happening in Haiti.

In 2019, all 78 inmates of Aquin prison in southern Haiti escaped while police were distracted by anti-government protests nearby.

In 2017 more than 170 inmates escaped from a prison in Arcahaie, north of Port-au-Prince.


Frantz Exantus, Haiti’s Communications Secretary, reacting to the incident said;


“Twenty-five people died including six prisoners and Divisional Inspector Paul Hector Joseph who was in charge of the prison,” he said.


“Among those killed were some ordinary citizens who were killed by the prisoners during their escape,” he added.

Kagara abducted boys and their teachers have been released today (photos)

The 27 schoolboys and their teachers who were abducted from the Government Science College in Kagara, Niger state have been released.

The students, three of their teachers, and 12 of their family members were abducted on Wednesday, February 17.

A government official said they are on their way to Minna, the state capital where they would be received by the state governor Abubakar Bello. The abductees were released from a location close to where the fifty-three abductees were released a week ago.

The Niger state government has received 27 students and three teachers of the Government Science College, Kagara, who were abducted last Wednesday, February 17.

They were released by their abductors today February 27.

Shamima Begum, ISIS bride, remains permanently outside UK – Supreme Court rules

Shamima Begum, who left the UK for Syria to join the Islamic State group as a teenager, will not be allowed to return and fight her citizenship case, the Supreme Court has ruled.

In February 2015, at just 15, Shamima travelled from her east London home to Syria with two school friends. She was married off to an ISIS fighter from the Netherlands and lived under ISIS rule for more than three years.

Her British citizenship was revoked on national security grounds after she was found, nine months pregnant, in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019.

On Friday, February 26, 2021, five Supreme Court justices unanimously turned down her request to be able to return to the UK to fight for her citizenship to be restored.

Ms. Begum, 21, who is currently in a camp controlled by armed guards in northern Syria, had wanted to return back to the UK to challenge the home secretary’s decision to remove her British nationality.

Initially, the Court of Appeal said she should be allowed to return to fight the case.

But in November, the Home Office appealed that decision at the Supreme Court, arguing that allowing her to return to the UK “would create significant national security risks” and expose the public to “an increased risk of terrorism”.

Announcing the ruling on Friday February 26, Lord Reed said: “The Supreme Court unanimously allows all of the home secretary’s appeals and dismisses Ms Begum’s cross-appeal.”

He said the Court of Appeal’s judgment “did not give the home secretary’s assessment the respect which it should have received” given the role’s “responsibility for making such assessments” and accountability to parliament.

Lord Reed added the Court of Appeal had “mistakenly believed that, when an individual’s right to have a fair hearing… came into conflict with the requirements of national security, her right to a fair hearing must prevail.”

He said the right to a fair hearing did “not trump all other considerations, such as the safety of the public”.
