Barcelona FC have issued their response to the intense public criticism, #EuropeanSuperLeague

Spanish football giants, Barcelona have issued their response to the intense public criticism aimed at the breakaway European Super League, insisting they would have been making a “historic error” by not signing up to the Super League, and that an “in-depth analysis” is now required to reshape the project.

Barca were one of the 12 founding clubs to initially sign up to the European Super League, which has fallen apart over the last few days amid fierce protests from fans and high profile figures in the sports world.

Eight teams including the premier league’s top six, have already officially withdrawn from the super league, however, Barca have said that they remain committed to the project, but admitted the public reaction must be taken into account with regards to how the initiative now moves forward.

Barcelona released an official statement on their website, which reads: “FC Barcelona shares the view of most major European football clubs, and even more so given the current socio-economic climate, that there is a need for structural reforms to guarantee the financial sustainability and feasibility of world football by improving the product that is offered to fans around the world and by consolidating and even increasing the fan base on which this sport is sustained, which is its mainstay and greatest strength.

“In this context, the FC Barcelona Board of Directors accepted, as a matter of immediate urgency, the offer to form part, as the founding member, of the Super League, a competition designed to improve the quality and attractiveness of the product offered to the football fans and, at the same time, and as one of FC Barcelona’s most inalienable principles, seek new formulas for solidarity with the football family as a whole.

“The decision was made in the conviction that it would have been a historical error to turn down the opportunity to be part of this project as one of its founding members. As one of the world’s top sports club, our intention shall always be to be at the forefront, this being an indispensable part of the club’s identity and its sporting, social and institutional spirit.

“In whatever case, FC Barcelona, as a club that always has been and always shall be owned by each and every one of its members, expressly reserved the right to submit such an important decision to the final approval of its competent social bodies following careful and very necessary study of the proposal.”

The statement continues: “Given the public reaction that the aforementioned project has generated in many and various spheres, there is no question that FC Barcelona appreciates that a much more in-depth analysis is required into the reasons that have caused this reaction in order to reconsider, if necessary, and to the required extent, the proposal as originally formulated and resolve all those issues, always for the good of the general interest of the football world. Such in-depth analysis needs time and the necessary composure to avoid taking any rash action.

“We feel it is equally important to highlight the objective fact that a Court of Justice has already granted urgent legal protection as requested, thus confirming right of the initiative on the part of the founding clubs of the Super League project. In this regard, FC Barcelona considers that it would be improper for the necessary process of reflection and debate to be established under criteria of unjustified pressure and intimidation.

“Despite being perfectly aware of the importance and interest raised by this matter, as well as the need to always act with the utmost transparency, FC Barcelona shall act at all times with due prudence and asks for the utmost understanding, respect and most of all patience among FC Barcelona supporters and public opinion in general.”

The Nigerian Govt. declared its support for #Pantami

The Presidency has declared its support for the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami.

There have been calls for Pantami to resign because of his past statements and actions showing his support for Islamic extremist views.

The presidency described the call for Pantami’s resignation as an orchestrated attempt to “cancel” him.

In a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency alleged that the recent calls for the sack or resignation of the minister is being sponsored by the opposition and some unnamed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) companies.

According to the statement, Pantami made enemies because he tried to put Nigeria first and had initiated plans and policies that would profit the public.

It acknowledged that the comments made by Pantami were wrong and in bad taste but said the minister had repented from the views and also apologised, adding that they were youthful errors.

The statement reads: “Today, there is an unfortunate fashion in public discourse that makes leaders in politics, religion, and civil society liable in the present for every statement they have ever made in the past – no matter how long ago, and even after they have later rejected them.

“This insidious phenomenon seeks to cancel the careers of others on the basis of a thing they have said, regardless of when they said it.

“The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy is, currently, subject to a ‘cancel campaign’ instigated by those who seek his removal. They do not really care what he may or may not have said some 20 years ago: that is merely the instrument they are using to attempt to ‘cancel’ him. But they will profit should he be stopped from making decisions that improve the lives of everyday Nigerians.

“The Minister has, rightly, apologized for what he said in the early 2000s. The views were absolutely unacceptable then, and would be equally unacceptable today, were he to repeat them. But he will not repeat them – for he has publicly and permanently condemned his earlier utterances as wrong.

“In the 2000s, the minister was a man in his twenties; next year he will be 50. Time has passed, and people and their opinions – often rightly – change.

“But all discerning Nigerians know this manufactured dispute is nothing to do with the minister’s prior words, but solely concern his actions in the present.”

CoronaVirus takes over Mount Everest as climber tested positive

A Norwegian climber has confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19 at the base camp on the south side of Mount Everest in Nepal, in a blow to the South Asia country ahead of the bumper mountaineering season on the world’s highest peak.

The pandemic crumbled last year’s season but Nepal has eased quarantine rules in an effort to attract more climbers.

“My diagnosis is COVID-19,” Erlend Ness told the AFP news agency in a Facebook message. “I am doing ok now … The hospital is taking care (of me).”

The Norweigan was reportedly evacuated from the slopes by helicopter and taken to a hospital in the Nepali capital Kathmandu after spending time at Everest base camp.

“I really hope that none of the others get infected with corona high up in the mountains. It is impossible to evacuate people with a helicopter when they are above 8,000 metres [26,246 feet],” Ness told NRK.

“The plan was to get fast high up in the mountains to make sure that we wouldn’t get infected … I’ve been unlucky and I could have done more by myself when it comes to sanitary precautions,” Ness added.

One hospital in Kathmandu confirmed it had taken in patients from Everest who had contracted coronavirus but could not give a number.

“I can’t share the details but some evacuated from Everest have tested positive,” Prativa Pandey, the medical director at Kathmandu’s CIWEC Hospital, told AFP.

But Mira Acharya, a spokesperson for Nepal’s tourism department, said it had so far not received any reports of COVID-19 among climbers.

“A person was evacuated on April 15 but we were informed that he is suffering from pneumonia and is being treated in isolation. That is all the information we have received,” she said.

Woman calls off wedding plans with fiancé over his family’s interference

Woman calls off engagement with abroad-based fiancé over his family’s interference

A debate has ensued on Twitter and even on the radio after a woman called off her engagement because her fiancé’s family were making certain demands.

The story was shared to Twitter by someone claiming to know the bride.

She explained that the fiancé, who lives abroad, was planning to return to Nigeria for them to have their introduction ceremony.

Ahead of his return, the fiancé’s sister, who is a medical doctor, asked her brother’s wife-to-be to come to her hospital and run some tests so they can be sure she’s clean.

The tests all came back clean.

Yet, the family was still not satisfied and the bride-to-be was told by her in-laws that they will like to place her on antibiotics to prepare her body for their brother’s return.

The bride refused. Her family also advised her against taking any drugs.

However, the fiancé insisted he will not return for the introduction ceremony if his bride-to-be doesn’t take the drugs as his family says.

As a result, the woman called off the engagement.

The story was shared to Twitter two weeks ago but it caught attention today after Cool FM OAP, Mannie Essien reached out to the lady to discuss the issue on his morning show today, April 23.

A number of people have shared their opinion on the matter and the debate is still on.

NDLEA will pursue those selling “Abuja drug cookies” – Marwa

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has warned owners/operators of supermarkets and confectionaries to rid their stores of drug cookies, biscuits and other products laced with illicit substances.

The NDLEA boss gave the warning while receiving further briefing on follow up operations from the Commander, FCT Command of the Agency, Mohammed Malami Sokoto over the arrest of a 300-level university student, Rhoda Agboje and her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Nwankwo, both of who specialise in producing and selling drug cookies to schoolchildren, clubs and supermarkets in Abuja.

NDLEA

According to the NDLEA boss, as part of our preventive measures, well henceforth go after supermarkets, clubs, confectionaries and other outlets and their owners, selling drug cookies, biscuits, cakes and other products laced with illicit substances under whatever guise.

“We will not shy away from hitting their production spots, supply and sales outlets before getting into the hands of innocent schoolchildren, unsuspecting members of the public and even our vulnerable young men and women. We wont rest on this until we chase them out of this criminal business. This is why I want to seize this opportunity to warn owners and operators of supermarkets, clubs and other sales outlets to clean their stores of these illicit substances before we get to them, Gen. Marwa stated.

A statement issued by NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi on Friday, April 23, said the Abuja drug cookies are packaged in designed paper wraps under the name Function with its motto as “function right with every bite”

“At the back of the package is a quote the suspects attribute to God to justify their illicit trade; Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seeds, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.” the statement says.

Narcotics agents with the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command of the NDLEA had last weekend uncovered a syndicate involved in producing the cookies with Arizona, a highly psychoactive variant of cannabis; alcohol and rohypnol among other ingredients.

Their lid was blown open following the arrest of Rhoda Agboje with four pieces of the drug cookies on Sunday, 18th April, 2021. She was arrested at the NNPC Cooperative estate, opposite Gaduwa estate in Abuja based on a complaint that she gave an unsuspecting young girl the cookies to eat. After eating the drug cookies, the girl lost her mind and could not sleep, making incoherent utterances due to the effects of the cookies.

Under interrogation, the prime suspect, Rhoda confessed she prepares the cookies with a friend and sells each pack of three pieces at N1, 500. A follow up operation in her boyfriends house led to the recovery of over 200 pieces of the drug cookies. The suspect also said she supplies some supermarkets and clubs in the FCT.

‘The organisers of any provocations against Russia will regret their actions’ – Vladimir Putin warns US and NATO

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has warned the US and NATO not to cross a “red line” with Russia and condemned what he called a coup plot against the Belarus government.

Speaking in his annual state of the nation address on Wednesday, April 21, Putin claimed that the West shouldn’t misjudge Russia as tension mounts over a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine and Russia’s jailing of Putin critic Alexei Navalny.

President Putin said Russia wanted good relations with all countries, but there were constant attempts by Western powers to “pick on” Russia.

Vladimir Putin

“We don’t want to burn bridges, but if somebody interprets our good intentions as weakness our reaction will be asymmetrical, rapid and harsh.”

He said: “We’ll decide for ourselves in each case where the red line is”.

On 17 April the Belarus government announced that they had foiled a plot to assassinate President Lukashenko.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had detained two Belarusians allegedly involved in the plot.

Putin backs Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who faces huge opposition and Russia claims the assassination attempt was backed by the US.

The reported coup attempt comes after Belarus president Lukashenko claimed re-election last year, in a vote widely condemned as rigged.

Opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has been exiled since then and the US has placed several sanctions on the Belarus government and Putin says the US is weaponizing its use of sanctions.

In his speech Mr Putin said that “the West didn’t think about Belarus or Ukraine, when the Maidan events were going on there”. Putin was referring to mass protests in Kyiv’s Maidan Square in February 2014 thG led to pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych fleeing to Russia.

“The organisers of any provocations against Russia will regret [their actions] in a way they never have before,” Mr Putin warned.

Fake Prophet and his female accomplice accused of stealing newborn baby from a family in Delta state

Human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe, has disclosed the identities of the prophet and his female accomplice accused of stealing a newborn baby in Warri, Delta state.

TM reported that Comrade Israel Joe accused the duo now identified as Ogaga Anthony Jeda and Chukwuedo Princess Priscilla, of taking a newborn away from the mother shortly after delivery.

Fake Prophet

In an update on Wednesday, April 21, Comrade Joe said that the  alleged ‘false’ prophet and the fake nurse admitted that the woman gave birth to a baby at an orphanage home on April 15, 2021 but refused to disclose the whereabouts of the child.

Read his post below:

In a post I made two days ago, I had given an alleged False Prophet along with his accomplice (a fake nurse) 48 hours ultimatum to provide the child who was given birth to, at a quack centre.

The lady and the prophet has confessed to the police that the woman really gave birth to the child in Potter’s Orphanage along 3rd Marine gate/Oil field Link road. At this point we have to state the facts at our disposal.

Fake Prophet

The prophet and the woman has refused to disclose the whereabout of the child. The child was birthed on Tuesday the 15th of April, this year. The husband to the woman who has the orphanage home where the child was birthed is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and has threatened to take up the police and ourselves. We are waiting for his court suit because disgrace awaits him.

Fake Prophet

The child according the information available to us has been sold by the False prophet and the fake nurse. The name of the False Prophet is Ogaga Anthony Jeda with phone number 08154683553 while the name of the fake nurse is Chukwuedo Princess Priscilla with phone number 07031101266. The owner of the Orphanage home where the woman delivered the baby has not been arrested by the police.

The false prophet and fake nurse had before the selling of the child defrauded the father of the missing child to the tune of 2million naira through frivolous prophesies and hypnotization. He had told the father and his wife never to tell anyone about the prayers being conducted on them because their enemies would die in few days not knowing they were targeting to sell their unborn child.

The picture of the false prophet and fake nurse are attached to this post as earlier promised. Families of both the fake nurse and the false prophet has been seriously begging the families of the victim and her husband to let go of the matter.

I can’t understand such appeal when they haven’t told us the whereabout of the child. We want to appeal to the police that extreme measures should be used against them, to compare them, into speaking out about the child’s whereabout, since peaceful questioning has failed. If they sold the child to a politician or others for ritual purpose or for adoption, we wish to know.

Depression has taken over the victim who poured hot water on herself because of the pain of child’s disappearance. Attached to this write-up is the picture of the victim and Comrade Israel Joe.

We hereby call on the Delta State Governor, the Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 5, Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Warri and all well meaning Nigerians never to take this case with trivial levity. Any attempt or pressure to frustrate and sweep this matter under the carpet would meet a very strong resistance.

A unarmed black man killed by the US Police in North Carolina

A police officer in North Carolina shot and killed an unarmed Black man while serving a search warrant Wednesday, April 21, sparking outcry from community members demanding law enforcement accountability and the immediate release of body camera footage.

US Police

The shooting unfolded in Elizabeth City, a riverfront town of about 18,000 residents in Pasquotank County near North Carolina’s coastal border with Virginia.

Authorities identified the victim as Andrew Brown Jr, a resident of Elizabeth City, and said he was shot when sheriff’s deputies tried to serve him with a search warrant at about 8.40am.

Relatives described him as a 40-year-old African American, who was a father of 10 children.

Authorities are yet to provide details of the shooting but eyewitnesses said Andrew Brown Jr was shot while trying to drive away and that deputies fired at him multiple times. The car skidded out of Brown’s yard and eventually hit a tree, said Demetria Williams, who lives on the same street and ran out of her house when she heard the gunshots.

“When they opened the door (to the car) he was already dead,” Williams told The Associated Press. “He was slumped over.” She said officers tried to perform chest compressions on him.

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s deputy was placed on leave pending a review by the State Bureau of Investigation, Sheriff Tommy Wooten II said at a news conference. Court records show Brown was 42 years old and had a history of drug charges and a misdemeanor drug possession conviction.

Wooten said the deputy shot Brown about 8:30 a.m. The deputy was wearing an active body camera at the time of the shooting, said the sheriff, who also declined to identify the officer or say how many shots he fired, citing a pending review by the State Bureau of Investigation.

On Wednesday evening, dozens of people gathered at the scene of the shooting in Elizabeth City, a municipality of about 18,000 people 170 miles (274 km) northeast of Raleigh, where they expressed their anger over the shooting, holding signs proclaiming “Black Lives Matter” and “Stop killing unarmed Black Men.”

US Police

“The police didn’t have to shoot my baby,” said Martha McCullen, an aunt of Brown who said she raised him after his parents died. McCullen stood on the stoop of Brown’s rental home, her eyes moist with emotion.

The shooting came the day after a jury found Derek Chauvin, a white former Minneapolis police officer, guilty of murdering George Floyd last year by kneeling on his neck while Floyd was handcuffed and under arrest.

Kamaru Usman claims he would give Conor McGregor a ‘savage beating’ if they fight

Nigerian-born martial arts champion, Kamaru Usman has continued his war of words with his Irish rival, Conor McGregor.

The pair have been exchanging words in recent weeks ever since the Irishman accused the UFC’s welterweight champion of stealing his promotional one-liners as he feels that the welterweight king needs to be more original with his content.

The Nigerian Nightmare will defend his welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261 in Jacksonville on Saturday night, while McGregor will fight Dustin Poirier for a third time on July 10.

When asked about the prospect of fighting McGregor, Usman claimed he had offered the Notorious a fight but he was not interested in taking it up.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Usman said: ‘Conor knows he doesn’t want those problems.

‘I’ve offered him a title fight… I’ve given Conor the shot. Conor, you have the shot if you want it.

‘Conor doesn’t want it, you know? At the end of the day, he won’t say my name, as well. He was silent.’

When he was then asked how a fight between the two of them would play out, Usman replied: ‘Come on, man. Come on.

‘That’s not even… It’s so bad that’s not even something I entertain in my mind anymore, because that’s just how savage a beating that would be.

‘That’s not even something I entertain in my mind. It’s almost a waste of brainpower with what I would do to him.

‘I’m proud of Conor for everything he is done and give him credit for that. But if you want to challenge me, that’s not even a challenge. It doesn’t make sense.’

Secretary of State Antony Blinken  issued a blanket authorization for U.S. diplomatic outposts around the world to fly the Pride flag, a move that is in start contrast to Trump’s administration State Department which was run by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

In diplomatic cables sent to diplomatic posts around the world, Blinken gave authority for diplomats to fly the Pride flag before May 17, which marks the international day against homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia, as well as June, which in the United States and many other countries is Pride month.

The cable contained a clause though, saying the authorization is not a must and chiefs of mission who run each embassy or consulate can choose whether to fly the Pride flag or showcase other symbols connoting support for LGBTQ rights based on what is “appropriate in light of local conditions.”

During the Trump era, the State Department blocked embassies’ requests to fly the flag on the same flagpole as the U.S. banner. Diplomats were told they could display Pride symbols elsewhere in embassies.

In 2019, then-Vice President Mike Pence defended Trump’s move, telling NBC News in an interview that “when it comes to the American flagpole and American embassies and capitals around the world, one American flag flies.”

All U.S. diplomatic missions require prior written approval from senior State Department leadership in Washington to fly any flag from the same halyard as the U.S. flag, with the exception of a foreign service flag or a prisoner of war/missing in action flag. In accordance with U.S. law, such flags are to be flown under the U.S. flag.

During his Senate confirmation hearing in January, Blinken vowed to stand up for LGBTQ rights, including allowing embassies to fly the Pride flag and swiftly appointing a special envoy once confirmed as President Joe Biden’s secretary of state.

“I think the United States playing the role that it should be playing in standing up for and defending the rights of LGBTQI people is something that the department is going to take on and take on immediately,” Blinken said in January this year.

Strange couple invites guests to attend their wedding at mansion that isn’t theirs after ‘God sent them a message to hold their dream wedding there’

Police were called on a couple after they arrived at a mansion that isn’t theirs to hold their wedding.

Wilson and Shenita Jones sent out a wedding invitation to friends asking them to attend their lavish wedding at a 16,300 square foot mansion complete with a tennis court, bowling alley and pool with a waterfall.

The couple, who referred to themselves as “the Royal couple”, claimed they owned the sprawling $5.6 million mansion with 15 bathrooms.

The couple said their Saturday afternoon ceremony would be followed by a red carpet cocktail hour and a reception lasting past midnight. Sunday brunch would be from noon to 4.

An invitation on an elaborate wedding website read: “It is our honor to welcome you into our dream home and Estate, to share this special occasion with us.

“We are excited to celebrate our wedding night with you and look forward to a wonderful evening of celebration, exquisite feast and dancing. At our Royal Extravaganza!”

Strange couple

They called the Southwest Ranches mansion their “dream home” and they said God sent them a message to hold their dream wedding there.

However, the owner of the house didn’t receive the same message from God.

Nathan Finkel’s late father, who owned the mansion, was an early IHOP restaurant franchisee. Finkel recently listed the home for over $5 million.

Finkel was baffled when Wilson showed up outside the gate on Saturday morning, April 17, to set up for the wedding.

The homeowner told Wilson he never gave them permission to hold their wedding there.

Strange couple

Finkel immediately called 911 and told the dispatcher: “I have people trespassing on my property.

“And they keep harassing me, calling me. They say they’re having a wedding here and it’s God’s message. I don’t know what’s going on. All I want is (for) it to stop. And they’re sitting at my property right at the front gate right now.”

Police arrived promptly and told Wilson and his friends to leave the venue. No arrests were made.

Mr Wilson allegedly posed as a prospective buyer and visited the home multiple times several months before the ceremony. He fell in love with the property and fancied himself and his new bride living there.

Then he received the “Divine message from God” telling him the home was his for free.

He thought the house was vacant and didn’t realize Nathan Finkel lived on the property in a different home. He was said to be shocked on the wedding day when he arrived to set up and found that the owner was home.

When approached by reporters, Mr Wilson said: “I don’t want to talk about it”.

It is not clear what became of the wedding and the guests they had invited.

Broward County records show a marriage license has been issued to the couple last week, but they had not registered as married by Wednesday, April 21.

Cristiano Ronaldo maybe relieved from Juventus’ free-kick walls this costly blunder (video)

Cristiano Ronaldo could be axed from Juventus’ free-kick walls after he committed his second blunder in six weeks.

Last month, the Portuguese striker was criticised for turning his back on a free-kick against Porto, which caused Juventus’s elimination from the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo

‘That was an unforgivable error,’ former England boss Fabio Capello told Sky Sport Italia that night.

‘In my day, you chose the players who went into the wall and they couldn’t be someone afraid of the ball. They were scared of the ball and jumped away from it, turning their backs. That’s unforgivable.’

On Wednesday night, Ronaldo committed the same blunder in Serie A before Juventus came from behind to win 3-1 after Parma took the lead through Ronaldo’s error.

Replays revealed Ronaldo, 36, ducked underneath the strike while covering his head with his arm as his teammates, Arthur Melo, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Weston McKennie front up to Gaston Brugman’s 25th-minute strike.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo hinted that Ronaldo may no longer be part of future defensive free-kick walls.

‘Unfortunately, these things happen,’ Pirlo said when asked if Ronaldo was to blame. ‘But we’ll evaluate (his role at free-kicks) over the next few days.

The European Super League has officially been suspended after all six English clubs

The European Super League has officially been suspended after all six English clubs formally withdrew following furious backlash from fans and footballers.

On Sunday, April 18 six English clubs — (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur) alongside three teams from Italy (AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus) and three from Spain ( Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid) disclosed their plans to form a controversial breakaway competition, which they referred to in the announcement as the Super League.

One of the reasons for the breakaway was because the top clubs feel cheated by the current champions league format which does not give them enough financial protection.

The top clubs in Premier League does not like the fact that they earn the same amount of television rights money as the likes of Burnley, West Ham, West Brom when they believe fans from all over the world will rather watch a Manchester United vs Chelsea than a West Brom vs Burnley.

However, just 48 hours after the announcement, all six English clubs released statements announcing their intention to step away from the competition after receiving heavy backlash from fans and footballers.

The Super League has responded, confirming that it will suspend the project while maintaining that ‘football needs to change.’

‘The European Super League is convinced that the current status quo of European football needs to change,’ read a statement released on Tuesday April 20.

‘We are proposing a new European competition because the existing system does not work. Our proposal is aimed at allowing the sport to evolve while generating resources and stability for the full football pyramid, including helping to overcome the financial difficulties experienced by the entire football community as a result of the pandemic.

‘It would also provide materially enhanced solidarity payments to all football stakeholders.’

The Super League also claimed that the withdrawal of the six clubs was due to ‘pressure’ applied over the past 48 hours.

‘Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations as was demonstrated today by a court decision to protect the Super League from third party actions.

‘Given the current circumstances, we shall reconsider the most appropriate steps to reshape the project, always having in mind our goals of offering fans the best experience possible while enhancing solidarity payments for the entire football community.’

A old woman has lost over £23million to scammers in Hong Kong who posed as Chinese officials

A 90-year-old woman has lost £23million to scammers in Hong Kong who posed as Chinese officials in the city’s biggest recorded phone scam.

Police on Tuesday, April 20,  said scammers targeted an elderly woman living in a mansion on The Peak, Hong Kong’s most luxurious neighbourhood.

Last summer criminals contacted the unnamed woman pretending to be Chinese public security officials. They claimed her identity had been used in a serious criminal case in mainland China.

She was told she needed to transfer money from her bank account into accounts held by the investigation team for safekeeping and scrutiny, the South China Morning Post reported, citing police sources.

Police said several days later a person arrived at her house with a dedicated mobile phone and SIM card for her to use in communicating with the fake security agents who persuaded her to make a total of 11 bank transfers.

Over five months, the elderly lady gave a total of HK$250 million (£23million) to the scammers, the largest sum recorded yet by a phone scammer.

Police said the scam was only spotted because the elderly lady’s domestic help thought something suspicious was happening and contacted her employer’s daughter who then alerted officers.

After an investigation, a 19-year-old was arrested for fraud and has been released on bail, police said.

The South China Morning Post reported that the arrested person is believed to have been the fraudster who turned up at the lady’s house with the phone.

George Bush describes Republican party as ‘isolationist, protectionist and nativist’

Former US President, George W. Bush on Tuesday described the Republican Party, of which he is a member, as “isolationist, protectionist and, to a certain extent, nativist,” his strongest and most direct criticism yet against the party since leaving office in 2009.

The comment of Bush is sure to ring bells not only because he is a former Republican president but he has hardly made political comments since leaving the White House

Bush recently talked about the need for a gentler approach to immigration by the Republican party,  but has not spoken negatively about the party even during the chaotic Trump era.

Asked on Tuesday how he would describe the Republican Party as he sees it today, Bush told NBC’s Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show, “I would describe it as isolationist, protectionist and, to a certain extent, nativist.”

When asked if he was disappointed by the party, the former President said, “Well, it is not exactly my vision but I am just an old guy they put out to pasture. Just a simple painter.”

Asked if a Republican who speaks nicely about immigration, favors gun control and supports a strong government presence in education would have a chance for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, Bush replied, “I think so.”

“I think it depends upon the emphasis. I think if the emphasis is integrity and decency and trying to work to get problems solved I think the person has a shot, yeah,” he said.

He then objected to Kotb’s insinuation that such a candidate would be “pro-immigration.”

“I think pro-immigration isn’t the right way to put it,” Bush said.

“I think border enforcement with a compassionate touch. That’s how I would put it. That’s what immigration basically means, let’s open up the borders.”

“I do want to say to Congress, please put aside all of the harsh rhetoric about immigration, please put aside trying to score political points on either side. I hope I can help set a tone that is more respectful about the immigrant, which may lead to reform of the system,”

In the “Today” interview on Tuesday, Bush also expressed concern about Joe Biden’s announcement to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, the war Bush initiated following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks nearly 20 years ago.

“My first reaction was wow, these girls are gonna have real trouble with the Taliban,” Bush said.

“A lot of gains have been made, and so I’m deeply concerned about the plight of women and girls in that country.”

“I think we’ll see, time will tell,” when asked if withdrawing troops was the right decision.

“I think the administration hopes that the girls are going to be OK through diplomacy. We’ll find out. All I know is the Taliban, when they had the run of the place, they were brutal.”

Manchester United confirms that its vice-chairman’s resignation

Manchester United have confirmed that Ed Woodward will leave his role as the club’s executive vice-chairman at the end of 2021 following Super League criticism.

Woodward’s resignation came after Manchester United were heavily criticised by their own supporters and footballers for joining a breakaway European Super League with 16 other top clubs.

The 49-year-old former banker who became chairman of the Red Devils back in 2013, was rumoured to have been one of the “brains” behind the Super League, which was debt-financed by JP Morgan.

The reviled European Super League has officially been suspended after all six English clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham were forced to pull out from the breakaway European Super League.

In a press release from the club, Woodward stated the following: “I am extremely proud to have served United and it has been an honour to work for the world’s greatest football club for the past 16 years.

“I am extremely proud to have served United and it has been an honour to work for the world’s greatest football club for the past 16 years.

“The club is well positioned for the future and it will be difficult to walk away at the end of the year.

“I will treasure the memories from my time at Old Trafford, during a period when we won the Europa League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. I am proud of the regeneration of the club’s culture and our return to the Manchester United way of playing.

“We have invested more than £1bn in the squad during my time here and I am particularly delighted with the progress the players have made under the astute leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching team in the last two years.

“I am sure that with the changes we have made on-field and to the coaching and football staff in recent years this great club will soon be lifting silverware again. It deserves to.

“I desperately wanted the club to win the Premier League during my tenure and I am certain the foundations are in place for us to win it back for our passionate fans.

“Our world-famous academy is flourishing again, with 34 players progressing into the first team since 2013, and it has been a pleasure to watch talents such as Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Axel Tuanzebe flourish in the first team environment. In the years to come the club’s production line of young talent will continue to push established first team players for their places. That competition bodes well for the future.

“We have also established Manchester United women and their progress is further evidence of the demand for success at this great club.

“The last 16 months have brought so many unique challenges and the club’s work in the community and around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic has been heroic.

“The financial impact on football clubs has been severe, but United have been one of the most robust and resilient in the face of extraordinary financial pressures.

“I would like to thank United’s passionate fans for their support during the good and bad times. I know this has been a challenging period in our history, but your support for the team has never, ever been in doubt.

“Finally, it has been a pleasure to work with so many magnificent, talented and hard-working people.”

In the press release, co-chairman of the club, Joel Glazer, thanked Woodward for his services, saying: “Ed Woodward has served the club with great distinction. On behalf of everyone at United I would like to place on record our sincere thanks for his tireless work and dedication.

“His contribution to the club has been massive, and he will always be welcome at Old Trafford as a part of the Manchester United family.”

“Herdsmen should keep off from Ebonyi for now” – Governor Umahi

Governor David Umahi has asked herdsmen to stay away from Ebonyi state for now, as a result of the tension in the state.

Umahi gave the directive while briefing journalists at the end of the state executive council meeting on Tuesday April 20.

The Ebonyi state Governor who condemned the killing of policemen and burning of police stations in the South-East zone, directed the cattle owners to stay away from the state until peace is restored.

He said;

“We are killing policemen, we are burning police station which means that South East leaders should know that our problem is not just herdsmen. We want to put it on record that no herdsman is in Ebonyi state now.

“We didn’t ask them to leave. They left on their own, which means they were privy to the attacks on Ebonyi state.

“I have been begging the National leadership that with what is going on, no State Governor is in control of bandits and because of the killings of the defenceless Ebonyi people, for the safety of them, they should not return now.

“There is high tension. We have sent text messages to Myetti Allah that Ebonyi state is under tension and we would not want them to still stay until such a time that the State is safe.”

Anthony Joshua may fight Tyson Fyry without his long term mentor

Heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua may have to take the biggest fight of his life – and arguably in the history of heavyweight boxing  against Tyson Fury- without his trainer and mentor, Rob McCracken.

Anthony Joshua may fight Tyson Fyry without his long term trainer/mentor Rob McCracken, as July date in Saudi Arabia is set to be confirmed

Rob McCracken, 52, is the head of boxing for Team GB, where he first discovered Joshua and the Tokyo Olympics this summer clashes with the proposed dates for the AJ vs Tyson Fury undisputed heavyweight title fight.

According to Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, three dates are being looked at for Joshua vs Fury – July 24, July 31 and August 7 – with Saudi Arabia set to be confirmed as the host country.

While the Olympics runs from Friday, July 23 to Sunday, August 8.

Eddie Hearn(pictured below) claims the fight is bigger than the Olympics and Joshua will just have to deal with it if he can’t have McCracken in his corner.

Anthony Joshua may fight Tyson Fyry without his long term trainer/mentor Rob McCracken, as July date in Saudi Arabia is set to be confirmed

Hearn told the Independent: “We don’t have a choice. There are too many people and things to fit around already with the fighters, trainers, countries, time zones, the Olympics.

“There is all this stuff to plan so whatever date we are given by the site is the date that we will go with. Someone is spending a lot of money so we have to go whenever they say.

“The plan is to plan accordingly, I know AJ and Rob have been talking accordingly so I am sure they will work it out.

“It will depend on timings, the date we get given is when the fight takes place and the guys know it will be around the Olympics, it could be inappropriate but it is the biggest fight in boxing and the biggest moment in AJ’s career so we have to work it out.”

When it was put to Hearn that McCracken may decide to miss the Olympics in favour of a more lucrative trip with Joshua, the promoter said: “I know Rob takes his position very seriously, he loves the job and the kids so it’s not ideal but we can’t move it a couple of weeks either side.”

Hearn continued: “The Olympics will be a different timezone so it’s not really in the mindset with our scheduling. I know the Olympics is a huge event but I see them very differently.

“I know a lot of people won’t agree with me but I personally see this as bigger than the Olympics. I just feel it is bigger than the Olympics, for Britain, because the world will stop to watch and it’s between two Brits.

“It’s impossible to schedule anything without clashing with something, it’s impossible so we will go on the date we are told to go on. It will be peak time UK, middle of the night in Tokyo so there will not be a TV clash.”

Joshua has in the past compared McCracken to the great Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the past cLling him his mento

Joshua told Sky Sports: “Rob is a gaffer – I look at him like Sir Alex Ferguson. Great manager, great trainer, great experience.”

“Me and Rob conquered the international stage as amateurs. Then I turned pro and me and Rob conquered the world.”

“UK is undermining Nigeria’s security” – FG reacts to UK’s decision to grant asylum to IPOB and MASSOB members

Lai Mohamed describing social media

The federal government has reacted to the United Kingdom government’s decision to grant asylum to “persecuted” members of Biafran secessionist groups, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

LIB reported earlier that the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) had released new guidelines on how to treat asylum applications by members of Biafran secessionist groups. The guideline centers on if a person “who actively and openly supports IPOB is likely to be at risk of arrest and detention, and ill-treatment which is likely to amount to persecution”.

Reacting to this at a forum organised by NAN on Tuesday April 20, Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed described the decision as “disrespectul” to the Nigerian government and also added that it “sabotages the fight against terrorism and generally undermining Nigeria’s security.”

He said;

“Let me say straightaway that this issue is within the purview of the honourable minister of foreign affairs and I am sure he will handle it appropriately.

“But as the spokesman for the federal government of Nigeria, I will say that if indeed the report that the UK will grant asylum to supposedly persecuted IPOB and MASSOB members is true, then something is wrong somewhere.

“Against the background of the fact that IPOB is not only proscribed but also designated as a terrorist organisation here in Nigeria, the UK’s decision is disrespectful of Nigeria as a nation.

“The decision amounts to sabotaging the fight against terrorism and generally undermining Nigeria’s security.

“It is not only unconscionable, it is inexplicable.

“For the UK to choose this time to give succour to IPOB beggars belief and calls to question the UK’s real intention.

“If we could go down the memory lane, what the UK has done is like Nigeria offering asylum to members of the IRA before the 1998 Good Friday Peace Agreement.”

Lai Mohammed also claimed that IPOB is alleged to be behind the recent attacks against security operatives in the South-East, even though the secessionist group has repeatedly denied this.

“We need referendum not asylum” – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has replied the United Kingdom after the country indicated interest to offer asylum to persecuted members of the secessionist group.

On Tuesday, April 20, LIB shared a report that the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), a division of the Home Office in the just-released ‘Country Policy and Information Note Nigeria: Biafran secessionist groups’, directed its decision-makers to consider if a person “who actively and openly supports IPOB is likely to be at risk of arrest and detention, and ill-treatment which is likely to amount to persecution”. Read here.

IPOB has now responded, saying its desire is to have a referendum on self-determination for the South-East and not asylum.

A referendum is a vote on which the citizens of a country give their opinion or decide an important political question. A territorial referendum could lead to the breakaway of a region from a country.

A statement from Emma Powerful, IPOB media and publicity secretary, reads;

“We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great and indomitable leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has noted with satisfaction the news that the United Kingdom has agreed to grant asylum to persecuted Biafra agitators resident in the UK.

While we commend them for this bold initiative, we wish to most graciously remind them that what we Biafrans need and cherish the most is referendum and not asylum in the UK.

We are tired of living in bondage in the devilish contraption called Nigeria they single-handedly created.

We would not wish our children, now and generations unborn, to share the same geo-political space with those that reward terrorists and criminalize law abiding citizens.

We particularly thank the UK government for confirming what the rest of the civilized world already know that the great IPOB worldwide family are not terrorists but peaceful agitators and freedom fighters.

That Nigeria is a country run by terrorists for the benefit of terrorists has been confirmed by this noble move by the United Kingdom.

Aso Rock, the seat of power in Nigeria is a terrorist haven with serving ministers who are openly sympathetic to terrorists and their activities coming and going as they please, while freedom fighters are languishing in jail. We want freedom not asylum.”

Idriss Deby’s son, Idriss Deby Itno, named Chad president after his father was killed

In the aftermath of the death of President Idriss Deby Itno, who ruled Chad for three decades, his 37-year-old son has taken over as president, according to a charter released Wednesday by the presidency.

The charter states that Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has been named transitional leader as head of a military council following his father’s death and will “occupy the functions of the president of the republic” and also serve as head of the armed forces.

Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno immediately took charge of a transitional military council and appointed 14 of the most trusted generals to a junta to run Chad until “free and democratic” elections in 18-months time.

Commander in chief of the all-powerful red-bereted presidential guard or DGSSIE security service for state institutions, he carries the nickname Mahamat “Kaka” or grandmother in Chadian Arabic, after his father’s mother who raised him.

Mahamat is a career soldier, just like his father.

UK to grant asylum to IPOB and MASSOB members

Persecuted members of Biafran secessionist groups, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian government and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), will now be reportedly granted assylum by the UK government.

TheCable reported that UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), a division of the Home Office in the just-released ‘Country Policy and Information Note Nigeria: Biafran secessionist groups’, directed its decision makers to consider if a person “who actively and openly supports IPOB is likely to be at risk of arrest and detention, and ill-treatment which is likely to amount to persecution”.

‘Biafra’ was defined as an area “in the south-east of Nigeria that comprises the states of Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra. The area is inhabited principally by Igbo (Ibo) people who are one of the country’s 3 largest ethnic groups”.

The decision makers are to consider the following;

“Must also consider if the [Nigerian] government’s actions are acts of prosecution, not persecution. Those fleeing prosecution or punishment for a criminal offence are not normally refugees. Prosecution may, however, amount to persecution if it involves victimisation in its application by the authorities.

“Consider each case on its facts to determine if the person is likely to be of interest to the [Nigerian] government and whether this is for the legitimate grounds of prosecution which is proportionate and non-discriminatory”.

Giving an example of persecution, the UKVI said is “if it is the vehicle or excuse for or if only certain groups are prosecuted for a particular offence and the consequences of that discrimination are sufficiently severe. Punishment which is cruel, inhuman or degrading (including punishment which is out of all proportion to the offence committed) may also amount to persecution”.

While the onus is on the applicants to demonstrate that they will be “at risk of persecution or serious harm” in Nigeria, the publication reported that the decision makers are to consider each case on its facts, taking into account:

  • profile, size, and organisation of the group/organisation to which the person belongs and its activities
  • whether a person in the UK would wish to continue their activism if returned to Nigeria (if not, why not)
  • whether the group/organisation has a presence in Nigeria as well as outside of the country and any evidence that it is being monitored by the government
  • person’s profile and political activities (including those online) and relevant documentary or other evidence
  • profile and activities of family members
  • past treatment.

Acknowledging that the Nigerian government has a responsibility to maintain law and order, “to prevent and protect the public against acts of violence”, the communique added that when supporters or members of MASSOB or IPOB “have incited or used violence to disrupt public order, the government may have legitimate grounds to arrest and prosecute those people”.

It also noted that “where the government has arrested and detained persons who, for example, peacefully participate in demonstrations and has then charged them with treason or the person is subjected to periods of detention in degrading or inhuman conditions, such treatment is unlikely to be fair or proportionate, and is likely to amount to persecution.”

The UK, which is a signatory to several human rights and refugee conventions, believes Biafran secessionist agitations are covered by one or more of the following policies:

  • A person is reasonably likely to face a real risk of persecution or serious harm
  • The general humanitarian situation is so severe as to breach Article 15(b) of European Council Directive 2004/83/EC (the Qualification Directive)/Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iii) of the Immigration Rules
  • The security situation presents a real risk to a civilian’s life or person such that it would breach Article 15(c) of the Qualification Directive as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iv) of the Immigration Rules
  • A person is able to obtain protection from the state (or quasi state bodies)
  • A person is reasonably able to relocate within a country or territory
  • A claim is likely to justify granting asylum, humanitarian protection or other form of leave, and
  • If a claim is refused, it is likely or unlikely to be certifiable as ‘clearly unfounded’ under section 94 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002.

Decision makers are directly to still consider all claims on an individual basis, taking into account each case’s specific facts. The Nigerian government is reportedly yet to react to this.

An Accra High Court has granted convicted actress, Akuapem Poloo, ¢80,000 bail.

The court granted her bail on Wednesday,  April 21, with two sureties to be justified.

As part of her bail condition, Poloo, whose real name is Rosemond Brown, has to report to the case investigator every two weeks.

She is also supposed to deposit her passport with the registrar of the court.

The court, presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey, said she will only travel with the express permission of the court.

The court further said the applicant has satisfied the four grounds of bail pending appeal.

The application for bail was not opposed by the state who were present in court represented by Senior State Attorney Selasie Kuwornu.

According to him, this is because the State had no control over the length of the appeal which could travel beyond the 90 days jail sentence.

The Ghanaian actress had been sentenced to 90 days in jail for snapping naked with her 7-year-old son.

Poloo’s lawyer filed a motion to appeal the 90-day jail sentence . He also filed a motion for bail pending appeal.

Russian billionaire’s ex-wife, Tatiana Akhmedova, wins £453m in Britain’s biggest divorce

A Russian billionaire’s ex-wife has won £453million in Britain’s biggest divorce settlement today, Wednesday, April 21.

The court settlement comes after a judge found that Tatiana Akhmedova’s former husband and son plotted to keep her from getting huge settlement by hiding his assets. She also accused their 27-year-old son, Temur Akhmedov, of acting as his dad’s “lieutenant” in the legal battle.

Tatiana Akhmedova

Making the ruling in Ms Akhmedova’s favour, the judge granted her £453m after noting the “formidable smokescreen” created to conceal assets.

The case is reportedly the most expensive divorce case ever.

Ms Akhmedova, a Russian who lives in London, said her son (pictured below) helped his father, Farkhad Akhmedova hide assets.

Tatiana Akhmedova's huby

During their marriage they enjoyed a lavish lifestyle – splitting time between a £39million mansion in Surrey and a £27.8million holiday home.

In court Temur Akhmedov said his mother’s claim against him should be dismissed .

As the family broke apart, the mum-of-two had already successfully sued her son to get more than £70million and a £5million property in Moscow.

Justice Gwynneth Knowles heard evidence between mother and son at a trial in the Family Division of the High Court in London.

In her ruling she said: “All happy families are alike, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

“With apologies to Tolstoy, the Akhmedov family is one of the unhappiest ever to have appeared in my courtroom.”

She added: “The Wife has been the victim of a series of schemes designed to put every penny of the Husband’s wealth beyond her reach.”

Farkhad Akhmedov, worth £900million, said in a statement: “Following the London High Court’s scandalous award to my ex-wife in 2016, Burford has embarked on a staggeringly expensive global tour of the world’s courts seeking to seize assets from me and from family trusts.

“Having failed in four years to secure a meaningful judgement and got nothing from any court in the world, they returned to London to bring a cowardly action against our son.

“Entirely predictably, given its original wrong and misguided judgement, the London court has ruled in favour of visiting “the sins” of the father on an innocent and loyal son.

“Today’s judgement and the continued presence of Burford in a matrimonial matter is beneath contempt and changes nothing.”

A spokesman for the couple’s son said he only got involved to stop the “war between his parents”, adding: “Like millions of young people, Temur has been caught up in the break-up of his parents’ marriage.

“While he fundamentally disagrees with this judgment, he would consider it a price worth paying should it lead to a reasonable settlement between the parents he both loves.”

Mr Justice Haddon-Cave, who oversaw the hearing in London, said Ms Akhmedova should walk away with £453 million.

A statement from Ms Akhmedova today said: “Since our divorce in 2016 the conduct of my ex-husband Farkhad, has left a trail of destruction and
pain in his wake.

“He has driven a vendetta born from his lies, that set out to destroy not only myself but sadly to try and drive a wedge between a mother and son. Fortunately that bond is unbreakable.

“As a father he has manipulated his parental responsibility, as a husband he has dishonoured the role of being a good father and instead has sought to destroy and drive his vindictive propaganda to manipulate, mock and utilise the courts in England and overseas.

“Today’s judgement is the inevitable conclusion given Farkhad’s failure to behave honourably in the first instance. This settlement should have been reached amicably as I offered on so many occasions.

“Money does not replace the permanent damage and scars to my children or the devastation that Farkhad has implemented on his own family and children.

“As a mother and grandmother, I will gladly take the protectorate role over my family where Farkhad has failed.

“I always knew that my strength would prevail through the smoke and mirrors as presented by Farkhad and his circus of illusionists.”

The rest of the Premier League clubs (about 14) are discussing sanctions for Big 6 teams

The other 14 Premier League clubs have started discussing if the ‘Big Six’ clubs Arsenal, Liverpool, Machester. United, Manchester City Chelsea and Tottenham should face sanctions after they abandoned their plans to join a European Super League,

According to Sky Sports News, the talks are ongoing but the other 14 Premier League clubs are divided on whether the ‘Big Six’ should face sanctions.

One senior club official to the publication that they want to pursue the possibility of punishments because they feel there is a clear breach of Premier League rules, and a precedent must be set to act as a deterrent to possible future breakaways.

Premier League Rule L9 says any member club needs prior written approval by the Board to enter a new competition, and this official says that rule has “patently been broken” by the rebels signing an agreement to join the proposed Super League.

An executive at another Premier League club has told Sky Sports News that any sanction imposed on the ‘Big Six’, such as points deductions or fines would hurt the wrong people – the players, managers, and, crucially, the fans of those clubs.

Instead, they advocate the Premier League rules being tightened for the future, but they say the ‘Big Six’ should be welcomed back into the fold quickly, because “there has to be a measure of realism” here, with those six clubs so crucial to the “overall commercial and sporting success” of the league.

Another meeting of the 14 Premier League clubs is expected to take place later today to discuss what should happen next.

A Drug Lord arrested with over 100kg Cocaine and Cannabis (photos)

A notorious major supplier of illicit drugs in Abia state, Chibuike Apolos was on Wednesday, April 21, arrested during an early morning raid of his hideout at Mbausi in Isialangwa North area of the state.

A statement released by Femi Babafemi, spokesperson of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, says Apolos has been on the wanted list of the Abia state Command of the NDLEA since February following the arrest of one Chima Ukeleonu, the suspect behind the video that went viral in January 2021, showing a young man hawking illicit drugs on the street. As a result, 38-year-old Apolos was put on the wanted list.

Babafemi said that following APolos’s arrest in the early hours of Wednesday, the Abia state government has already marked his house that serves as his hideout for demolition.

According to the Commander, Abia state Command of the NDLEA, Bamidele Akingbade;

“The Command has been on his trail since February this year. Fortunately we got a tip-off that he just received some quantities of cannabis from Edo state. Notwithstanding the tense security situation in the south east especially Abia state, the Command still embarked on the operations which culminated in the arrest of one Chibuike Apolos with ten (10) bags of cannabis weighing 100kg, 1.6 grammes of cocaine, 1 gramme of heroin and 5 grammes of methamphetamine.

“The suspect is one of the major suppliers of illicit drugs in Abia State especially in the Isialangwa communities. The State governor has been notified and his building has been marked for demolition.”

Chima Ukeleonu

In a related development, the Taraba state Command of the Agency has arrested 61-year-old Lawan Gambo Umar for trafficking 58.50kg of cannabis sativa. According to the state Commander of NDLEA, Suleiman Ajadi,

“The suspect was taking the skunk concealed inside sacks of beans chaff used to feed animals to Fune in Yobe state when our men intercepted him.”Babafemi’s statement read in part

Identical twins who were separated at birth reunites 36 years later

Twin sisters, who had no idea the other existed, have reunited for their 36th birthday.

Identical twins Molly Sinert and Emily Bushnell were separated at birth in South Korea and adopted by different families.

The siblings spent most of their lives totally unaware of each other’s existence and little information about their birth family.

But after 36 years the two were able to find each other thanks to DNA tests and now they’ve met face-to-face for the first time.

Both twins were adopted by Jewish families in the US when they were just a few months old.

Molly went to live in Florida, while Emily’s family were from Pennsylvania.

The sisters were reunited after Emily’s 11-year-old daughter Isabel set about to find out more about her mum’s family.

She told Good Morning America: “I wanted to do the DNA test because she was adopted.

“I wanted to find out if I had more family on her side.”

Meanwhile halfway across the US, Molly also decided she wanted to take a DNA test to find out more about her history.

Molly said: “I clicked on the close relative and I didn’t understand it.

“[The results said:] ‘You share 49.96% DNA with this person. We predict that she’s your daughter’.

“This is obviously not right because I’ve never gone into labour, I don’t have children.”

It didn’t take long for Molly to figure out the results were connecting to her twin’s daughter.

The sisters were able to chat from afar and shared pictures, but decided not to have a video call until they met in person.

Even though Emily didn’t feel comfortable taking the test, she said finding out she had a twin “immediately filled a hole in her heart”.

Identical twins

She continued: “Although I have family who love me and have been wonderful, there was always a feeling of disconnection.

“Finding out that I had an identical twin sister just made everything so clear. It all makes sense.”

As the twins got to know each other, they found out they are similar in many ways. They both had cats and wore similar dresses, hairstyles and necklaces to prom.

Identical twins

Emily added: “Our senior prom picture… we were both wearing a beaded dress with a strapless style and our hair was exactly the same.

“I realised this is probably one of the many twin moments we’ll discover.”

Speaking of the moment they met, Emily concluded: “This was the happiest moment of my life. I can honestly say that.”

Covid-19 vaccine created ‘giant blisters’ and left her bedridden (photos graphic)

A mum left in a wheelchair due to a severe reaction to a Covid vaccine is still encouraging others to take the vaccine.

Sarah, of Glasgow, shared graphic photos of the horror rash which spread all over the body and face, the Daily Record reports.

NHS doctors confirmed the mum-of-one’s symptoms were caused by her body’s reaction to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Sarah started having a tingling rash about seven days after taking the vaccine. She called her GP but ended up going to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital’s A&E department after the blisters spread across her body.

Covid-19 vaccine

She said: “I ended up asking my husband to take me to A&E and when I got there, my heart rate was sitting at 160bpm which they were very concerned about.

“I got put on an ECG machine.”

She tested negative for a series of tests but a reaction to the jab was found on the second of two biopsies.

Sarah said: “Once they found out that it was a reaction to the vaccine, they put me on steroids and that really seems to be helping my progress.

“I’m currently using a wheelchair as well just because I can’t walk with my legs getting bandaged up every day and the blisters on the souls of my feet.

Covid-19 vaccine

“For the first eight to nine days, I was on quite a bit of morphine but I started to gradually come off the stronger stuff.”

Sarah praised hospital staff after being allowed to recover at home on April 12.

She said: “I still believe people should be vaccinated and the amount of people that have had it and have been okay shows that it is safe for most.

“I just want people to be aware that there are some reactions that can occur and not to ignore any rashes.

Covid-19 vaccine

“It’s not to scare people but just in case this does happen to anybody else, it means they’re going to get the treatment straight away.”

Sarah, who also developed the rash on her arms and buttocks alongside an abscess on her face, is urging others to be aware of changes in their body after receiving the jab.

Covid-19 vaccine

An NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokesperson said: “We continue to urge anyone invited to come forward for their vaccine.

“It is normal for vaccines to cause potential side-effects.

“These side-effects need to be continuously balanced against the expected benefits in preventing illness.”

AstraZeneca said they cannot comment on individual cases.

R.Kelly’s associate pleads guilty to arson after setting his accuser’s SUV on fire

An associate of singer R. Kelly has pleaded guilty to arson for setting fire to a car outside the Central Florida home of Kelly’s ex-girlfriend.

Michael Williams was one of three associates of R. Kelly who were arrested for allegedly attempting to intimidate and threaten women who have accused the singer of sexual abuse and harassment in August 2020.

On Monday, April 19, he pleaded guilty to arson after setting an SUV, parked outside an alleged victim’s Florida home, on fire.

R.Kellys associate

“I drove from my house to Kissimmee, Florida and deliberately set a car on fire in someone’s driveway,” Williams said during a court hearing in New York Monday after pleading guilty to arson.

As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop the witness tampering charge against him.

R.Kellys associate

“The plea agreement is fair in that the witness tampering charge as it relates to R. Kelly will be dismissed at sentencing,” said defense lawyer Todd Spodek.

The June 2020 fire was set outside the Polk County home of Azriel Clary, a former girlfriend of Kelly.

Clary, 23, has been outspoken with claims that she was sexually and physically abused by the R & B singer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly.

She was preparing to testify against Kelly in federal court, before Clary’s mother, Alice Clary, called 911 call to report the family’s car was on fire.

“We heard a big boom. And when my son looked out his window, somebody was running. But they threw something on the car and put it on fire,” Alice Clary told the 911 dispatcher. “The car is getting ready to blow up.”

“Kelly has nothing to do with this — nothing to do with it at all,” R. Kelly’s attorney Steve Greenberg told Vulture at the time of the trio’s arrest this summer. “He’s never reached out to a witness, he’s never tried to intimidate a witness.”

Williams, who is a relative of Kelly’s former publicist will be sentenced on October 5 and could face up to 71 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines.

UK wants to roll out its digital currency called “Britcoin”

The UK government is exploring the possibility of creating a new digital currency that could be known as Britcoin”.

The Bank of England and the Treasury said on Monday, April 19,  that they will work together to assess the benefits of a central bank digital currency amid reports cash payments are generally on the decline, partly as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The bank said the new currency if it comes to pass, would be a new form of digital money for use by households and businesses and would exist alongside cash and bank deposits, rather than replacing them.

“The Government and the Bank of England have not yet made a decision on whether to introduce a CBDC in the UK, and will engage widely with stakeholders on the benefits, risks and practicalities of doing so,” the BoE said in a statement.

At the financial industry conference, British finance minister Rishi Suna said: “We’re launching a new taskforce between the Treasury and the Bank of England to coordinate exploratory work on a potential central bank digital currency (CBDC).”

“Our vision is for a more open, greener, and more technologically advanced financial services sector,” he told a fintech conference. “And if we can capture the extraordinary potential of technology, we’ll cement the UK’s position as the world’s preeminent financial centre.

Soon after, Sunak tweeted the word “Britcoin” in reply to the finance ministry’s announcement of the taskforce.

‘I want to run for President in 2024’ – Donald Trump

Former US president, Donald Trump has revealed he is looking ‘very seriously’ at running for president again in 2024.

Speaking during his very first television interview since leaving office in January, Trump announced his Presidential ambitions. He also attacked Joe Biden for his handling of the southern border and then warned that Latin America was ‘sending rapists’ into the United States.

‘I am looking at it very seriously,’ he said. ‘Beyond seriously.’ Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

Trump invited Sean Hannity of Fox News into his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Trump

He said he believed his high poll ratings – what he termed his ‘tremendous numbers’ was due to disappointment in Biden’s rule.

‘I’ve got tremendous numbers. Nobody has ever gotten the numbers I got. No sitting president has come even close. There is more popularity now the end there was the day before the election,’ he said.

Trump, now 74, said he is not ready to officially declare his candidacy.

‘From a legal standpoint, I don’t want to really talk about it yet,’ he added.

He singled out having reduced taxes, reduced the cost of prescription drugs, created Space Force, and built parts of a wall along the border with Mexico.

More than 170,000 migrants were taken into custody at the U.S.-Mexico border in March – the highest monthly total since at least 2006. Now Trump says Biden’s undoing of his immigration policies was very bad.

‘All he had to do was leave it alone,’ said Trump, pointing out that tens of thousands of migrants are currently arriving, and claiming that they were criminals and drug traffickers.

‘They are sending us not their best people,’ Trump said.

‘They are sending us people that in many cases – not in all cases – are murderers, drug dealers, human traffickers, rapists, really bad people.

‘They are sending people from prisons.’

‘It’s a horrible situation,’ he said. ‘It could destroy our country. People are pouring in.’

He told Hannity that he was looking forward to campaigning on behalf of Republican candidates for the 2022 election, and said they should embrace his policies ‘if they want to win’.

‘We’ve got to take back the house in ’22,’ he said. ‘We have a real chance.’

Derek Chauvin goes to prison and placed on suicide watch

Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin was last night taken to a maximum-security prison and placed on suicide watch after being found guilty on all three counts of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all counts Tuesday, April 20 in the Hennepin County courtroom, where jurors spent three weeks listening to testimony about the day Floyd died under the weight of the 45-year-old officer’s knee during an arrest on May 25, 2020.

Jury

Judge Peter Cahill thanked the jury on behalf of the state of Minnesota for not only jury service but ‘heavy-duty jury service’.

Chauvin was taken in handcuffs from the courtroom as Judge Peter Cahill immediately revoked his bail pending sentencing. He was transferred to Oak Park Heights, Minnesota’s only maximum-security prison.

Derek Chauvin goes to prison

The Minneapolis police officer is being closely watched by guards at the prison to ensure his safety, not just as a suicide risk, but also from other inmates.

He faces a minimum sentence of 12.5 years and maximum of 40 years if he serves terms for each charge concurrently. If served consecutively, he faces between 29 and 75 years.

Joe Biden told the nation that the verdict sends the message that no one is ‘above the law’, as he demanded new action to honor Floyd after a killing he called a ‘stain on the nation’s soul.’

‘No one should be above the law. And today’s verdict sends that message. But it’s not enough. It can’t stop here,’ the president said.
