Veteran Actress Moji Afolayan Breaks Silence: Blacklisted for Resisting Sexual Advances, Exposes Nollywood’s Dark Side

Lagos, Nigeria – Veteran Nollywood actress, Moji Afolayan, has finally revealed the shocking reason behind her sudden disappearance from the screen for over a decade, putting an end to years of worry among fans and netizens. In a recent interview, Afolayan disclosed she was blacklisted by powerful film marketers after refusing their sexual advances, a courageous stand that cost her years of her career.

For more than ten years, the absence of the screen goddess left many wondering about her well-being and whereabouts, fueling speculation and concern among her loyal fanbase, as gathered by Toi Express.

Addressing her fans directly, Moji Afolayan explained the pervasive influence marketers once held in the industry. “Before now, marketers used to give producers money to work,” she stated, highlighting their power to make or break careers.

She courageously revealed, “But because I refused their sexual advances, they held a meeting among themselves and agreed not to call me for work.” Afolayan firmly asserted her principles: “I did not sleep with any of them because I can’t trade my body for films. It’s my principle.”

In a particularly damning revelation, the 57-year-old actress, who is married to colleague actor Ojopagogo, did not mince words when speaking about others in the industry. She claimed that many married actresses exchange sex for movie roles.

“Many of those doing it will go with their husbands and have them wait outside while they go inside to meet marketers,” Afolayan alleged. “I’m exposing their secrets now. Marketers made them stars. Their posters were all around.”

Despite the significant personal and professional cost, Afolayan expressed no regrets. “They denied me movie roles because I didn’t offer myself for sex. Although it affected my income and fame, but I cherish my body more than every other thing. Even my husband knows,” she declared, emphasizing her dignity. “I thank God that I stood with my dignity. That is what I am enjoying today.”

The veteran actress noted a shift in the industry that has, ironically, vindicated her stand. “They now know how it feels because they have made us social media friendly. We now pushed our movies on YouTube without any marketers,” she said, referring to the power shift away from traditional marketers to digital platforms.

Moji Afolayan’s brave revelation sheds light on the dark underbelly of the Nigerian film industry, highlighting the systemic sexual exploitation that artists, particularly women, have had to navigate. Her story is a testament to unwavering integrity in the face of immense pressure and a stark reminder of the battles for dignity that continue within creative industries.
