Navy Strikes Hard at Illegal Refineries, Recovers Stolen Crude

The fight against crude oil theft and economic sabotage in Nigeria’s Niger Delta has seen another significant victory. The Nigerian Navy, through its Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos, has dealt a decisive blow, sealing six illegal refining sites in the creeks of the Niger Delta region and recovering a substantial 11,200 litres of stolen crude oil.

This latest achievement, executed under the ongoing Operation Delta Sanity II, underscores the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to boosting the nation’s daily crude oil output and combating the pervasive economic sabotage that has plagued the region.

Intelligence-Led Success

Commanding Officer of FOB Escravos, Navy Capt. Ikenna Okoloagu, disclosed the details to journalists in Warri on Friday, emphasizing that “these achievements… were made possible through credible intelligence.” This highlights a strategic approach, moving beyond reactive measures to proactive, intelligence-driven operations.

Capt. Okoloagu further noted that these significant operational successes in the fight against crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and related illicit activities directly align with the Strategic Directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (Admiralty Medal). The CNS’s emphasis on “sustained pressure on economic saboteurs” is clearly being translated into action on the ground.

Dismantling the Network

Giving a detailed account of the exploits, Capt. Okoloagu revealed that following a series of coordinated operations, FOB Escravos not only deactivated the six illegal refining sites but also seized approximately 11,200 litres of stolen crude oil. The illicit products were discovered meticulously concealed in 28 dugout pits and six polythene sacks. Additionally, one pumping machine, crucial to their illegal operations, was recovered.

The operations unfolded methodically across specific dates (as reported):

  • October 2nd, 2025: Acting on actionable intelligence, operatives dismantled three illegal refining sites at Obodo Omadino, Warri South-West LGA, Delta State. These sites contained 3,750 litres of stolen crude oil stored across 10 dugout pits and 6 polythene sacks.
  • October 4th, 2025: Two additional sites were dismantled at Obodo Omadino, leading to the recovery of 1,450 litres of stolen crude oil stored in 5 dugout pits.
  • October 6th, 2025: Another two sites were also dismantled at Obodo Omadino, resulting in the recovery of 6,000 litres of stolen crude oil stored in 13 dugout pits.

Unyielding Commitment to National Assets

Capt. Okoloagu reiterated the crucial link between these operations and national goals, emphasizing that the actions were in direct support of the Federal Government’s efforts to boost Nigeria’s daily crude oil output and combat economic sabotage. He reassured the public that “FOB Escravos remains unwavering in its commitment to dismantling illegal refining infrastructure and safeguarding Nigeria’s oil assets against economic sabotage.”

This consistent pressure is not new. As reported previously by PUNCH Online, personnel of FOB Escravos had also destroyed a total of 10 illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta creeks on August 1, 2025, signifying a sustained and relentless campaign against these criminal enterprises.

The Nigerian Navy’s persistent efforts are vital in reclaiming national resources, stabilizing oil production, and sending a clear message to those who seek to undermine Nigeria’s economy through illicit means. The success of Operation Delta Sanity II is a testament to the dedication and strategic focus of our naval forces.
