Sit-at-home order: Govt Offices, Banks, Schools, Markets fail to open in the South-East yesterday

Commercial activities were grounded in Owerri, the Imo state capital, on Monday following the weekly sit-at-home order which is being observed in the state.

Though the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, was arraigned at the Federal High court in Abuja for the first since his rearrest by the Federal Government, a large number of the residents of the capital city stayed away from their workplaces on Monday.

Banks, schools, shopping malls, and markets were shut as Owerri again experienced huge economic losses on Monday.

The ever-busy Imo state University junction, Government House Roundabout, Control Post roundabout, Warehouse junction Roundabout, Ikenegbu, Mbari, Douglas, Okigwe Road, and Wethedral Roads, were shadows of themselves.

Though our correspondent saw private vehicles ply some routes, it was observed that most commercial vehicles stayed away from the roads.
