Young Calls Time: 23-Year Football Career Ends at 40

In Ipswich, veteran footballer Ashley Young has officially announced his retirement at the age of 40, closing the chapter on a remarkable 23-year career at the top level of the game.

Currently playing for Ipswich Town, Young remains fully committed to helping the club in their final Championship match this Saturday, as they fight for a return to the Premier League.

Reflecting on his journey, Young described his career as a dream realized, expressing pride in his accomplishments across both club and international football. He added that he will take time after retirement to decide his next move.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna praised Young’s leadership, professionalism, and influence, especially his role in mentoring younger players and maintaining high standards within the squad.

Young began his professional journey at Watford FC before rising to prominence at Aston Villa, which earned him a move to Manchester United. During his nine years there, he secured major trophies including the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League, and League Cup.

He later joined Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title in the 2020–21 season.

On the international stage, Young earned 39 caps for England national team and featured in major tournaments such as UEFA Euro 2012 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Known for his versatility and longevity, Young’s retirement marks the end of an era defined by consistency, adaptability, and success at the highest levels of European football.
