Over 20 Feared Dead as Suspected Fulani Militias Attack Plateau Village in House-to-House Slaughter
Bindi Community, Plateau State – At least 20 people were brutally killed on Monday night when gunmen, suspected to be Fulani militias, invaded the Bindi community in the Ta-Hoss district of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. An unspecified number of residents were also injured, and many have fled their homes in terror seeking safety.
The horrific details of the attack were revealed in a joint statement issued by the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), Riyom chapter. Signed by Gideon Manjal, Chairman, and Gadu Daniel Dong, Publicity Secretary, the statement reported that the assailants stormed the village after residents had retired for the night, carrying out a chilling house-to-house assault. Innocent people, including women, children, and the aged who were unable to escape, were among the casualties.
Obtained by Toriexpress on Tuesday, the Coalition’s statement indicated that survivors identified the attackers as “Fulani extremists” who were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons. Their clear mission, according to COPDEM, was to “exterminate the people and take over their land.”
“The attackers, who were properly identified as Fulani extremists by survivors, stormed the Bindi community in Ta-Hoss district of Riyom Local Government Area on Monday night and, in their regular pattern of attack which is consistent with several previous attacks across Riyom and other parts of Plateau, systematically slaughtered over 20 innocent people including women, children, and old people,” the statement declared.
This latest incident underscores a disturbing pattern of violence that has plagued communities in Plateau State, often characterized by similar tactics and significant loss of life. The Bindi community now joins a growing list of villages grappling with displacement and profound grief, as calls for enhanced security and protection for vulnerable populations continue to mount.
