Do you know that Anthony Joshua will earn £100M from Usyk rematch ?

Two-time heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua is set to earn a whooping £100m from his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, a fee similar to his multi-million DAZN contract.

The showdown will take place in Saudi Arabia on August 20, 2022, with both fighters expected to receive a mega-money payday.

According to the Daily Mail, the site fee alone is understood to be around the £92m mark – almost double the figure the Sheiks forked out to hold the inaugural Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.

Joshua, who pocketed the bulk of the Sheiks’ £66m site fee to fight Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, will command 50 percent of the figure this time around.

Despite fan outrage at the £24.95 cost to stream the September bout, around 1.2million fans still went ahead and purchased the fight. A repeat would add another £30m to the prize money pot, totalling somewhere in the region of £130m.

Due to a 50/50 split, the Brit will cash in on a minimum £65m payday. Yet this amount does not include ticket sales and sponsorship deals which, according to The Sun, could take the figure towards the £100m mark.

The British- Nigerian boxer, 32, has also penned a mouth-watering £100m deal with DAZN to stream his eagerly-awaited rematch fight in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after leaving Sky Sports.

In September 2021, Joshua was stripped of his WBC, WBO, WBF, and IBO titles last September as Usyk defeated him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium via unanimous decision. Joshua quickly applied his rematch clause to be able to claim his titles back.

Ukraine and Moldova get EU candidate status

Ukraine’s long-term goal of joining the European Union has received its latest shot in the arm, after the bloc’s 27 member states agreed Thursday that the country should be given candidate status — a significant step on the path to full membership for the war torn country.

“Today marks a crucial step on your path towards the EU,” European Council President Charles Michel said on Twitter after talks in Brussels. Leaders also agreed to approve Moldova’s candidacy.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said he “sincerely commends” the European Council’s decision, calling it “a unique and historical moment in EU/Ukraine relations.”

Ukraine and Moldova

The decision, made at an EU Council summit, comes a week after President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Leyen said it was the opinion of the bloc’s executive body that Ukraine deserved candidate status because it “has clearly demonstrated the country’s aspiration and the country’s determination to live up to European values and standards.”

It is still likely to be years before Ukraine is able to join the EU formally as the process is lengthy and requires agreement from the 27 member states at almost every stage.

Ukraine and Moldova

Ukraine applied days after the Russian invasion in February, and the process moved at a record speed.

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, former boxer Vitali Klitschko, paid an emotional tribute to his fellow citizens resisting the invasion.

“We paid a very high price for this chance,” he wrote on Telegram. “Yes, we still have a lot to do on the way to the European family.

“But I am sure that Ukraine will do everything necessary, fulfil all the conditions and pass the necessary laws. Because otherwise our state has no future. Indeed, our best defenders are dying for it.”

Netflix lays off 300 employees due to dwindling subscribers

Popular video streaming platform, Netflix has once again shown the exit door to an additional 300 employees in the second round of layoffs

According to Variety, the cuts are across multiple business functions in the company, with the bulk of the jobs lost in the US.

The cuts amounted to about 4% of the streaming giant’s workforce with  US employees affected the most. This came after the company cut 150 jobs last month.

“While we continue to invest significantly in the business, we made these adjustments so that our costs are growing in line with our slower revenue growth,” Netflix said in a statement.

Back in February, Netflix said it had lost 200,000 subscribers globally at the start of 2022, and projected a decline of 2 million users in the upcoming quarter.

The company blamed the drop on a range of factors, including increased competition, the economy, the war in Ukraine, and the large number of people who share their accounts with non-paying households.

A spokesman for Netflix said its diverse, audience-focused channels such as Con Todo and Strong Black Lead are a priority for the company and that they are “investing heavily in them”.

“We’re committed to inclusion on-screen, behind the camera and in our workforce,” he said. “We are making changes to how we support our publishing efforts, including bringing some of this important work in-house.”

To offset subscriber losses, Netflix is also considering adding advertising to the service in return for a lower-priced subscription in addition to cutting costs, a move it had long resisted.

On Thursday, June 23, Netflix’s chief executive Ted Sarandos said the company is in talks with several companies for advertising partnerships.

Media reports from earlier this week said it was in discussions with Alphabet’s Google and Comcast’s NBCUniversal for potential marketing tie-ups.

“We’re talking to all of them right now,” Sarandos said at the Cannes Lions conference when asked which company Netflix was looking to partner with.

Lagos, Nigeria is the second worst liveable city in world

Nigeria’s commercial capital city, Lagos, has been ranked as the world’s second least liveable urban area due to social unrest, terrorism and conflict.

According to the latest 2022 Global Liveability Index, Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)  ranked Lagos 171 out of 172 countries in the list of most liveable cities in the world for the first quarter of 2022.

“The least liveable cities were Damascus in Syria, Lagos in Nigeria, Tripoli in Libya, Algiers in Algeria and Karachi in Pakistan, which scored 30.7, 32.2, 34.2, 37.0, and 37.5 respectively.

“The EIU further highlighted the top five most liveable cities in the world which are Vienna, Austria scoring 99. 1; Copenhagen, Denmark with 98.0; Zurich, Switzerland with 96.3; Calgary, Canada had 96.3 and Vancouver, Canada with 96.1

“However, most of the cities in the bottom ten have improved their scores compared with last year, as COVID-19 pandemic induced pressures,” EIU stated.

The EIU, which is a sister organization to The Economist, ranked 173 cities around the world on a variety of factors, including health care, crime rates, political stability, infrastructure, and access to green space.

The EIU examines the quality of health care, education, infrastructure, stability, and culture when assessing the living conditions of each city.

From the indicators used for the ranking index which was stability, healthcare, culture & environment, education and infrastructure, Lagos scored 20.0, 20.8, 44.9, 25.0 and 46.4 respectively which dragged its score to 32.2 from a total of 100.

2022 World CUP: FIFA approve 26-man squad

World football governing body, FIFA has approved 26-man squads for this year’s World Cup in Qatar, increasing the maximum squad size by three for the November 21-December 18 tournaments.

FIFA explained that the decision to change the size of the squads for the World Cup was made because of the unusual timing of the competition, which is set to begin in November 21.

The Covid-19 pandemic has also played a role in the decision to expand the teams.

A statement from FIFA read: “Given the need to retain additional flexibility due to the unique timing of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in the global calendar, as well as the broader context of the disruptive effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on squads before and during tournaments, the Bureau has decided the following:

“The maximum number of players on the release list has been increased from 35 to 55.

“The number of players to be included on the final list has been increased to at least 23 and a maximum of 26.

“The final matchday at club level for the 23 to 26 players nominated on the final list will be 13 November 2022.

“No more than 26 people (up to 15 substitutes and 11 team officials – one of these officials must be the team doctor) will be allowed to sit on the team bench.”

This comes a week after football’s rules body IFAB approved the permanent use of five substitutes for all top-level matches and said teams can now name 15 substitutes on a team sheet instead of 12.

Ekweremadu and wife denied bail, kept in custody and adjourned the case till July 7th

The Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London has denied bail to former Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife Beatrice over claims that they trafficked a 15-year-old boy from Lagos to the UK with the intent to harvest his organ.

According to Arise TV, the prosecutors at the court this afternoon said the Ekweremadus were being charged for bringing the 15-year-old boy from Nigeria to the UK with the claim that he was to be given a better life in the UK but was actually to harvest his organ. The prosecutors told the court that the former Senate President procured a passport for the boy and claimed he was 21 years old but they discovered that he was 15 years old.

The prosecutors also told the court that the Ekweremadus have a daughter who has a kidney-related disease and has been on dialysis for quite some time. They told the court that it is believed that the plan was to use an organ from the boy on their daughter who appears to need a kidney transplant.

Ekweremadu and his wife had separate legal representatives and prayed the court to release them on bail but their prayers were however dismissed by the Magistrate. The couple has surrendered their passports to the UK government.

The couple was arrested at Heathrow airport, on their way to Istanbul, Turkey and according to the prosecutors, it is believed that they were on their way to procure another organ as they were unable to harvest the organ of the boy. The prosecutors also stated that $20, 000 cash was found on Mr. Ekweremadu.

According to Arise, the red flag was raised after the boy truthfully disclosed his age, 15, to the doctors at the Royal Free hospital. in the UK. The doctors canceled the procedure and the boy was immediately taken into the custody of the family who according to the prosecutors treated him like a slave until he escaped and found his way to the police where an investigation started, leading to the arrest of the couple.

Arise news reports that according to the prosecutors, the Ekweremadus found the boy off the streets in Lagos, he was homeless and they brought him to the UK under the pretense of offering him a better life. The defense however says there is far more than meets the eye regarding the case.

After much deliberation, the Magistrate ordered their remand in custody till July 7 for the next hearing on the case.

Outgoing Manchester United player, Paul Pogba has agreed to join Juventus.

The French midfielder joined Manchester United in 2016 for a then record £80m but failed to live up to expectations after 6 years at the club marred with controversies, injuries and talks of discontentment within his camp.

According to Sky Sports’ Italian reporter, Gianluca Di Marzio, Pogba is expected in Turin for his tests some time between July 5 to July 8.

“Thursday is going to be decisive for the final details of the contract, as agent and lawyer Rafaela Pimenta will meet with the Bianconeri directors to write out the paperwork.”

“It seems there is only one real issue remaining, whether the contract is for four years or for three with an option to extend for a fourth.”

Pogba’s move is a return to the Allianz Juventus Stadium for the France international, who already wore the Juventus jersey from 2012 to 2016 until his transfer to Manchester United.

Read what Bloomberg article says Bola Tinubu

Jubril Gawat, a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state on New Media, has defended All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu after a Bloomberg article about him.

Bloomberg had shared an article titled “Graft Allegations Dog Nigeria’s Main Presidential Hopefuls”, centered of Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and BolaTinubu.

In the article, it was stated that Tinubu who is a former Governor of Lagos state, “fought a lawsuit in which the US accused him of laundering proceeds of heroin trafficking and eventually reached a settlement”.

It read;

Front-runner Bola Tinubu, who secured the ruling party’s nomination earlier this month, was being investigated by the country’s anti-corruption agency as recently as last June. Three decades ago he fought a lawsuit in which the US government accused him of laundering the proceeds of heroin trafficking and eventually reached a settlement.

In July 1993, when Tinubu briefly served as a Nigerian senator, the US government filed a forfeiture lawsuit in Chicago against bank accounts in his name, claiming there was “probable cause” to believe they held the proceeds of heroin dealing. The case followed a probe by the Internal Revenue Service and other agencies into a trafficking network involving Nigerian suppliers.

The IRS secured warrants in January 1992 to seize almost $2 million, according to court filings. While living in Chicago between 1989 and 1991, Tinubu had deposited more than $1.8 million into one of the accounts, before transferring large sums to another bank, according to the US government’s complaint. While disputing the US’s reason for targeting the accounts, Tinubu settled in September 1993, agreeing to give up $460,000 to the US government in exchange for the release of the rest of the money. Tinubu wasn’t indicted over the matter.

Gawat who reacted to the article, shared a screenshot of the part which stated that Tinubu was never indicted. He tweeted “Tinubu was never indicted over the matter”.

ALERT! Austrian man infected with drug-resistant Gonorrhoea from Cambodian prostitute

Scientists have warned about a super Gonorrhoea which poses a ‘major global threat’ after an Austrian man caught a drug-resistant version of the STI.

The unidentified man, in his 50s, became infected after having unprotected sex with a prostitute while on holiday in Cambodia in April.

Five days later, when he returned home, he experienced a burning pain while urinating and discharge from his penis. Medical tests revealed he had gonorrhoea and he was given standard antibiotics.

While the drugs made his symptoms disappear, the man still tested positive, meaning the treatment had technically failed.

Doctors called his strain ‘extensively drug resistant’ and different from ones seen before.

They warned it could effectively render gonorrhoea untreatable, if it was allowed to spread.

Lead author of the report, Dr. Sonja Pleininger of the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety, said such strains ‘poses a major global public health threat’.

‘If such strains manage to establish a sustained transmission, many gonorrhoea cases might become untreatable,’ she said.

New medications targeting the gonorrhoea bacteria and/or the creation of an effective gonorrhoea vaccine are crucial to limiting the impact of drug resistant strains, the authors added.

The man was eventually treated with a week-long course of amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, a combination antibiotic treatment. He later tested negative.

However, Cambodian sex worker was unable to be traced, meaning the situation could repeat itself, according to experts who detailed the man’s case in the journal Eurosurveillance.

Neymar offered back to Barcelona by PSG for £43M

Neymar in tears after losing UEFA champions league final (Photos)

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly offered Barcelona a chance to re-sign Neymar for £43.1million.

In 2017, Neymar completed his £198m switch to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona, and has since scored over 90 goals for the club in only 144 appearances.

However, the Brazilian is yet to win the coveted Champions League crown in France and is no longer seen as the poster boy of PSG, following the rapid rise of Kylian Mbappe and the arrival of Lionel Messi in 2021.

Neymar still has another three years at the club but it seems the French giants are keen to cash in on the winger this summer.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, PSG have ‘repeatedly’ handed Barcelona the chance to re-sign Neymar for £43.1m.

The 30-year-old is reportedly willing to exit Paris this summer, but only if it permits him rejoining his former club.

Neymar scored 13 league goals in 22 appearances during PSG’s title-winning campaign last season, having suffered from an ankle injury between December and February.

Several Medical Personel to be tried for Diego Maradona’s death

Eight medical personnel are to stand trial accused of criminal negligence in the death of legendary Argentinian footballer, Diego Maradona.

Maradona died in November 2020 of a heart attack in Buenos Aires, aged 60. He had been recovering at home from surgery on a brain blood clot earlier that month.

A few days after his death Argentine prosecutors launched an investigation into the doctors and nurses involved in his care.

A judge ordered a culpable homicide trial after a medical panel found Maradona’s treatment was rife with “deficiencies and irregularities”.

In 2021, the panel of 20 experts appointed to examine his death found Maradona’s medical team acted in an “inappropriate, deficient and reckless manner”.

It also concluded that the footballer “would have had a better chance of survival” with adequate treatment in an appropriate medical facility, according to the court ruling.

Among the medical personnel facing charges are Maradona’s neurosurgeon and personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque, a psychiatrist and psychologist, two doctors, two nurses and their boss. They have all denied responsibility for his death.

The legal proceedings were prompted by a complaint filed by two of Maradona’s daughters. They raised concerns about their father’s treatment after the brain operation.

Mario Baudry, a lawyer for one of Maradona’s sons, told Reuters that the football legend was “in a situation of helplessness” by the time of his death.

“As soon as I saw the cause, I said it was homicide. I fought for a long time and here we are, with this stage completed,” he said.

All eight medical personnel will be tried on a legal definition of homicide which is based on negligence committed in the knowledge that it may lead to a person’s death.

The crime can hold a sentence of eight to 25 years in prison, according to Argentina’s penal code

Who you should vote for in 2023? – Pastor David Abioye (video)

Clergyman, David Abioye, has said that in the 2023 general elections, Christians should ensure they do vote for people who care about other ethnic groups and not only Fulanis.

While speaking in his church recently, the clergyman also added that Christians should ensure they vote for people who can defend their faith.

According to him, the church has suffered so much with killings in different parts of the country, largely in Christian communities.

He also stated that it would be deceptive to say there is no religion in politics. He said Christians should not hide that they are voting for their faith.

Polio disease is spreading very fast in the UK

Highly-contagious polio is spreading in the UK for the first time in years, leading UK health officials to declare a national incident.

Traces of the polio virus have been found in sewage in London.

The infectious disease – which can cause paralysis and death – was found during a routine check after samples were collected from the Beckton Sewage Treatment Works.

This prompted a response from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) who have called on families to check on unvaccinated children.

Officials have said that it has spread between closely linked individuals in northeast London.

Several closely-related polio viruses were found in sewage samples between February and May this year.

It has now been classified as a “vaccine-derived” poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2) after evolving.

The infected people are now producing the strain in their faeces.

Dr Vanessa Saliba, a consultant epidemiologist at the UKHSA, said: “Vaccine-derived poliovirus is rare and the risk to the public overall is extremely low.

“Vaccine-derived poliovirus has the potential to spread, particularly in communities where vaccine uptake is lower. On rare occasions it can cause paralysis in people who are not fully vaccinated so if you or your child are not up to date with your polio vaccinations it’s important you contact your GP to catch up or, if unsure, check your red book.

“We are urgently investigating to better understand the extent of this transmission and the NHS has been asked to swiftly report any suspected cases to the UKHSA, though no cases have been reported or confirmed so far.”

As well as declaring a national incident, the UKHSA has alerted the World Health Organisation, meaning the UK could be stripped of its polio-free status.

Mompha to be re-arrested as Court revokes his bail

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, revoked the N200m bail earlier granted to suspected internet fraudster, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, and also issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Mompha, alongside his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited, are being prosecuted by the EFCC on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activity, retention of proceeds of criminal conduct, laundering of funds obtained through unlawful activity, failure to disclose assets and property, possession of documents containing false pretence and use of property derived from unlawful act.

Mompha was arrested on January 10, 2022, by EFCC, arraigned and granted bail.

However, the defendant has failed to appear in court on two scheduled dates for his trial. At the last adjourned date, his matter could not proceed due to his absence.

At the resumed proceedings on Wednesday, Justice Mojisola Dada stood down the matter for a while in expectation of the defendant’s arrival, yet he failed to appear in court again.

The EFCC lead counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo asked the court for further stand down, but the request was turned down by the judge, who subsequently asked, ‘Where is the defendant?’

Addressing the court, Oyedepo told the court that he was shocked by the development.

At that point, Justice Dada, said, “The excuse that was given that he tested positive for COVID-19 was found to be false.”

The prosecution counsel, Oyedepo thereafter, urged the judge to issue a warrant of arrest to ensure the defendant is produced in court.

Subsequently, Justice Dada revoked the defendant’s bail and ordered his arrest.

She adjourned further proceeding till June 30, 2022.

Potter was heard on video yelling “Taser” several times just before she fires her pistol.

Wright’s family members “hope and believe the measures of change to policing, policies and training will create important improvements to the community in Daunte’s name,” said co-counsel Antonio M. Romanucci. “Nothing can bring him back, but the family hopes his legacy is a positive one and prevents any other family from enduring the type of grief they will live with for the rest of their lives.”

The outrage from Wright’s death led the Brooklyn Center City Council to pass a series of reforms, including the use of social workers and other trained professionals to respond to medical, mental health, and social-needs calls that don’t require police.

The changes also prohibit police from making arrests for low-level offenses and require the city to use unarmed civilians to handle minor traffic violations.

The settlement is one of the largest involving police conduct Minnesota. Last year, the city of Minneapolis agreed to pay $27 million to George Floyd’s family.

38 Nigerian mercenaries killed in Ukraine – Russian Defence Ministry claims

The Russian Defence Minister has claimed that 38 Nigerian mercenaries fighting in Ukraine have been killed in the war, while 32 others have returned to their country.

According to the data sighted by Sahara Reporters, Russia says Kiev’s claim of 20,000 foreign mercenaries holding its defence is a lie, adding that it monitors and records the presence in Ukraine of every representative of countries who moved to the country as a mercenary or trainee.

The total number of foreign mercenaries that have moved to Ukraine, according to the report is 6,956 out of which 1,956 have been killed while 1,779 fled back to their home countries.

Only 3,221 of the foreign mercenaries, who migrated from 64 countries are left, as of June 17, 2022.

Of this number, a total of 85 Nigerians were part of the foreign mercenaries, 38 have been killed while 35 returned to their home country. It said only 12 of this number remain in the country.

A statement from the Russian Defence Ministry noted, “Against the backdrop of the Kiev regime’s mounting military failures and massive daily losses in manpower and equipment, the flow of foreign mercenaries to Ukraine has not only decreased, but is actually turning in the opposite direction.

“Despite the Kiev regime’s efforts and increased payments, the process of mercenaries leaving to the “other world” or back to their countries of residence has not been stopped by the Kiev leadership.

“Recent empty statements about almost “20,000” foreigners “fighting” against the Russian Armed Forces are just plain lies.

“As we have already noted, the Russian Defence Ministry monitors and records the presence in Ukraine of every representative of this international gathering of “headless horsemen”.

“Moreover, it is not only mercenaries directly involved in combat operations as part of Ukrainian units that are now included in our databases. We also take into account the trainers who have come to train, assist in the operation and repair of Western weapons supplied to Ukraine.

“We will publish these statistics today.

“For example, among European countries, Poland is the undisputed leader in terms of the number of mercenaries both arriving and dying.

“Since the beginning of the special military operation, 1,831 people have arrived in Ukraine, of whom 378 have already been killed and 272 mercenaries have departed for their homeland.

“It is followed by Romania with 504 arrivals, 102 deaths and 98 departures. The UK is in third place: 422 arrivals, 101 deaths, 95 departures.

“Among the Americas, Canada leads the way: 601 arrivals, 162 deaths, 169 departures. The USA comes second: 530 arrivals, 214 deaths, 227 departures.

“From the Middle East, Transcaucasus and Asia the largest number, 355 mercenaries, came from Georgia, of whom 120 died and 90 left Ukraine. Then there are 200 terrorist fighters redeployed from the US-controlled areas of Jazira region in Syria. To date, 80 have been eliminated and 66 have left Ukraine.

“In total, our lists as at June 17, 2022, include mercenaries and weapons operating specialists from 64 countries. Since the beginning of the special military operation, 6,956 people have arrived in Ukraine, 1,956 have already been eliminated and 1,779 have left.

“As long as 3,321 mercenaries are alive, not yet captured, or have not yet escaped to the Ukrainian border.”

‘No s3x outside marriage during 2022 World Cup’ – Qatari Govt. warns

The Qatari government has outlawed players and fans from having sex outside of marriage in the upcoming 2022 World Cup, with defaulters to be sentenced to seven years in prison.

Public drinking, parties, and other social events would also not be allowed during the tournament in the predominantly Muslim country.

According to the Daily Star, the country plans to enforce the ban and not exclude foreign fans who would be in the country for the duration of the tournament.

“Sex is very much off the menu, unless you are coming as a husband and wife team. There definitely will be no one-night stands at this tournament.

“There will be no partying at all really. Everyone needs to keep their heads about them, unless they want to risk being stuck in prison.

“There is essentially a sex ban in place at this year’s World Cup for the first time ever. Fans need to be prepared,” a police source added was quoted as stating.

Apart from a law against drinking in public and sex between unmarried people, Qatar also forbids anyone from being publicly intoxicated. Public display of affection between men and women, even if married, is also a crime, and one should not be caught wearing revealing clothing in public.

“With very strict and scary consequences if you are caught. There is a feeling this could be a very bad tournament indeed for fans,” a source said.

Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani recently released a statement ahead of the tournament, saying: “We don’t prevent anyone from coming to Doha with different backgrounds, different beliefs, Qatar is a very welcoming country.

“We have millions of people who come to visit our country and the World Cup is a great opportunity for people from different parts of the world to come and discover our culture.”

Sadio Mane signs up with Bayern Munich for £35M (photos)

Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool in a deal worth up to £35m, ending his six-year stay on Merseyside.

The 30-year-old Senegalese striker on Wednesday, June 22, signed a three-year contract worth £ 250,000 a week at the Allianz Arena, until 2025.

Bayern will pay Liverpool an initial £27.5m with a further £5m based on appearances, and will pay another £2.5m based on individual and team achievements.

Speaking for the first time as a Bayern player, Mane said: ‘I’m very happy to finally be with FC Bayern in Munich.

‘We had a lot of talks and I felt the great interest of this big club from the start. So there was no doubt in my mind right from the start.

Bayern Munich

‘This is the right time for this challenge. I want to achieve a lot with this club.’

The Senegal star, who arrived at Anfield from Southampton in 2016 for £34m, played his last match for the Reds in the Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

In a farewell interview with Liverpool, Mane added: ‘Obviously it is strange – really, really strange – to no longer be a Liverpool player after six years spent at Anfield.

‘But of course I had a great time, an unbelievable time, and since my first day I really, really enjoyed training, playing, at Anfield especially and in front of these amazing supporters. Now it’s come to the end, so what can you say?

‘I think whoever is leaving Liverpool, with those supporters you will always miss them because so far [they are] the best in the world and I have always said it.

‘I would love one day to come back to Anfield to say hi to them and of course to watch Liverpool playing because for me, I am going to be Liverpool’s No.1 fan – after the supporters!’.

When asked about the prospect of returning to Anfield in the Champions League, he said: ‘You know the Champions League and how the draw always goes on, it can happen for sure and if it happens it happens.

‘It is football and of course I have to come and I have to play. But like I said, Liverpool is Liverpool and we will see. We will see what is going to happen.’

Emmanuel Macron’s new minister investigated over rape claims

A newly appointed female minister in French President Emmanuel Macron’s new government is under investigation for rape.

Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, the 46-year-old Secretary of State for Development, is the subject of two complaints from a woman who cannot be named for legal reasons.

A source at the Paris public prosecutor’s office on Wednesday told the Marianne news outlet that the latest case related to Ms. Zacharopoulou’s time as a gynaecologist.

‘An enquiry has been opened into two alleged acts of rape which were allegedly committed in the suspect’s medical duties,’ said the source.

The first complaint was filed on May 25, and the investigation was opened two days later ‘to determine whether the facts are likely to fall within the scope of criminality’. The second complaint was filed on June 16.

Examining magistrates are now working on the enquiry with a specialist police brigade, meaning Ms. Zacharopoulou has already been interviewed at length.

Ms. Zacharopoulou, a Greece-born former MEP, joined the French government on May 20 – before last Sunday’s disastrous election results, which saw Mr. Macron lose his parliamentary majority.

Fabio Vieira signs up with Arsenal for £30 million

Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Fabio Vieira from Porto for £30 million.

The Portuguese midfielder is the Premier League club’s first major signing of the summer transfer window, after goalkeeper Matt Turner and Brazilian forward Marquinhos arrived.

Vieira, 22, said he ‘couldn’t be prouder’ to join a ‘huge and historic’ club like the Gunners. The deal includes £4m of achievable performance-related add-ons.

He said: ‘I was born near Porto and played for Porto from the age of eight. I’ve always admired the way Arsenal play.

‘There are many players who I remember well from over the years: ‘(Dennis) Bergkamp, (Cesc) Fabregas, (Santi) Cazorla, Thierry Henry.

‘Arsenal is a huge and historic club. I’m so happy to be here and I couldn’t be prouder.’

Manager Mikel Arteta said: ‘I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent.

‘Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.

‘We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.’

Vieira, a namesake of legendary former Gunners midfielder Patrick Vieira – now manager at Crystal Palace – will wear the No 21 shirt.

‘I’m an attacking player who looks to find space between the lines, to be able to finish off moves either with assists or by scoring goals. I think those are the main attributes that Arsenal fans can expect from me.’

Technical director Edu continued: ‘We’re so pleased to have completed the signing of Fabio from FC Porto.

‘Fabio is a player with special qualities who is comfortable with the ball in the final third of the pitch. We are all looking forward to working with him and enjoying his future contribution to Arsenal.

‘We will now continue to work hard and are looking forward to finishing this transfer window as strongly possible.’

“Collect your PVCs and vote” – European Union tells Nigerians

The European Union has urged Nigerians to get their Permanent Voter Cards, register and vote during the 2023 general elections.

The EU pledged to support the mobilisation of voters to fully participate in the polls.

The EU delegation said it will embark on the “Youth Vote Count Campaign 2.0, organised in collaboration with INEC, YIAGA and other civil society organisations in the framework of EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN).”

“As Nigeria will go to the polls for its seventh general elections since the return to civilian rule, the EU Delegation encourages eligible voters, and youth in particular, to register and collect their PVCs (Permanent Voter Card) and to turn out on election day!” the statement released by press officer, Modestus Chukwulaka, partly read.

The union also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on improved logistics, including early deployment of personnel and essential materials in the majority of the polling units, better functioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and efficient electronic transmission of polling unit results to INEC’s results viewing portal as seen in the just concluded Ekiti state governorship election

Putin has threatened to deploy Russian new Satan II nuclear missile soon

Vladimir Putin has threatened to deploy Russia’s new Satan II nuclear missile, which can reach the UK in just three minutes, by the end of 2022.

The Russian president was speaking at an event with military academy graduates at the Kremlin on Tuesday, June 21, when he made the threat, The Telegraph reports.

He also said the country will continue to boost its military following damage suffered during its ongoing invasion of Ukraine and praised his troops for battling ‘like heroes’.

Putin said Russia will place the first batch of Sarmat ballistic missiles on combat duty by the end of the year as part of the efforts, The Telegraph reports.

The Sarmat missile, or ‘Satan II’, is said to be the world’s longest-range intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of striking a target 11,200 miles away, meaning it could easily strike targets in the US and Europe.

The Russian president previously described the development of the missile, which was successfully test-fired in April, ‘a big, significant event’ for Russia’s defense industry, saying the Sarmat will ‘ensure Russia’s security from external threats and make those who try to threaten our country with aggressive rhetoric think twice.’

Western military experts have said the Sarmat is capable of carrying 10 or more nuclear warheads and decoys – easily enough to wipe out territories the size of Britain or France in a single strike.

Commander of Russia’s strategic missile forces, Colonel Sergei Karakayev told Kremlin state television last month that they can fly with different trajectories and evade missile defence systems.

He said: ‘There is no existing air defence for the Sarmat missile systems, and it will probably not exist in the coming decades.’

Among other new additions referenced by Putin in his speech are S-500 missile defence systems that he has claimed to be ‘unmatched in the world’.

It comes after last month saw a state TV broadcast suggest Britain should be bombed back to the Stone Age ‘in ten minutes’ with an attack by new nuclear-capable Zircon – or Tsirkon – missiles.

Politician Aleksey Zhuravlyov and TV propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov had earlier advocated striking Britain with Satan-2.

And Russian state TV pundit, Yaakov Kedmi, a Moscow-born former Israeli diplomat, said Russia’s new hypersonic Zircon missile should be deployed to wipe out 50 or 60 power stations in the UK ‘in ten minutes’, plunging the country into darkness.

“NATO’s Commitment To Lithuania is ‘Ironclad’” – US responds after Russia threatened Lithuania

The United States has said it stands firmly behind Lithuania with its NATO commitments to defend it after Russia threatened Lithuania on Tuesday, June 21.

Lithuania, a former Soviet republic both in NATO and the European Union, has been among the most outspoken nations opposing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

NATO

On Tuesday June 21, Lithuania said that it would restrict the rail transit of goods sanctioned by the EU into Kaliningrad.

The goods Lithuania said it would not allow pass through it’s territory to Kaliningrad include metals, construction equipments, minerals and weapon producing equipment.

Kaliningrad is an isolated Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea annexed from Germany after World War II . Kaliningrad sandwiched between Lithuania and Poland.

Russia in response warned Lithuania against the move, sayung that it would “certainly respond” to the “hostile actions.” and would do anything to protect Russian interests.

The US has now responded saying it stands by all it’s NATO allies including Lithuania.

With Lithuania being a NATO member, any direct military action by Russia would trigger Article 5 of the treaty and the entirety of the alliance would at war with Russia. During the State of the Union Address, U.S. President Joe Biden vowed to defend “every inch” of NATO territory. In March, the U.S. bolstered its presence in Lithuania, bringing the number of soldiers stationed in the country to around 1,000.

“We stand by our NATO allies and we stand by Lithuania,” State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters.

“Specifically our commitment to NATO’s Article Five — the premise that an attack on one would constitute an attack on all — that commitment on the part of the United States is ironclad,” he said.

Price said that the United States welcomed the “unprecedented economic measures” taken by Lithuania and other nations against Russia over its invasion.

Asked about Russia’s statements, Price said, “We aren’t going to speculate on Russian saber-rattling or Russian bluster and don’t even want to give it additional airtime.”???

Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Napoli under Investigation

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen’s move from Lille to Napoli is under investigation, with the offices of both clubs raided in Naples, Roma, and France.

According to Il Mattino, La Repubblica, Sky Sport Italia, and others, police raided Napoli and Lille offices in Naples, Rome, and France as part of the investigation. Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is also being investigated for possible fraud in the transfer.

According to French media outlet, L’Equipe, it was revealed that Lille got just €36m, not €81m, as widely reported.

It was the most expensive deal in Lille’s history, making Osimhen the most expensive African footballer ever, taking over from Nicolas Pepe, who left for Arsenal the previous season.

The deal has long been the subject of controversy, as the official €70m transfer plus €10m in bonuses fee was only circa €50m in cash.

The other €20m was made up of goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis and three youth team players Luigi Liguori, Claudio Manzi and Ciro Palmieri.

Details have emerged that Osimhen’s former club has only received €36m from his transfer.

It was gathered that  the Ligue 1 club was in a very poor financial state at the time and the transfer of the Super Eagles forward was used to balance the books by the club.

The deal has long been a cause of controversy, as the official €70m transfer plus €10m in bonuses was only circa €50m in cash, the other €20m made up of goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis and three youth team players Luigi Liguori, Claudio Manzi and Ciro Palmieri.

The value of Liguori, Manzi and Palmieri immediately raised eyebrows, because they were given highly inflated prices on the transfer market.

There was even more controversy as the three players never got to wear the Lille jersey, as they were immediately loaned out to Serie C sides and their contracts were simply terminated a year later free of charge.

The players went to the media complaining the deal had ruined their careers and they were used as pawns in a larger transaction used to bolster the finances of both Napoli and Lille.

Buhari urges UK, US and Europe to designate IPOB as terrorist group

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on western allies to designate the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group “over involvement” in pipeline and infrastructure vandalism.

The president said this in an interview with Bloomberg.

Buhari said the country has stepped up its efforts in combating oil theft and vandalism, among others.

He said, “Criminality and terrorism in oil-producing regions hamper production, and it would help if our western allies designated IPOB as a terrorist group, given their complicity in damage to pipelines and infrastructure.

” We have invested in our security forces, including the $1 billion military deal with the U.S. for the acquisition of A-29 Super Tucano aircraft.

“These efforts are making an impact: wells that had to be closed due to criminality have now re-opened. With these efforts, OPEC has raised our quota for next month.”

Romelu Lukaku may likely return to Inter Milan Club soon

Chelsea and Inter Milan have reached agreement over a loan move for Romelu Lukaku to return to Italy.

According to The Athletic, Inter Milan will pay €8million plus add-ons to secure the services of Lukaku on a temporary basis ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign.

The Belgium international is expected to undergo a medical next week before returning to the San Siro on loan next season.

The paperwork for the deal is still being finalised but Inter will not have an option or obligation to buy Lukaku after his loan spell in Serie A.

Chelsea are said to be reluctant to let the striker leave for a discounted price after paying £98.5m for his return to Stamford Bridge. But, Lukaku, who is contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2026, will return following the 2022-2023 campaign.

Chelsea paid Inter £97.5m to sign Lukaku last summer, but the Belgian was only able to score just eight Premier League goals in 26 outings.

“Why I ignored advice to remove fuel subsidy” – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he ignored advice from International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and other leading economists to remove the fuel subsidy.

In an interview he granted Bloomberg, Buhari said western allies are now learning that what looks good on paper and the human consequences are two different things.

He said;

“Most western countries are today implementing fuel subsidies. Why would we remove ours now? What is good for the goose is good for the gander!

“What our western allies are learning the hard way is what looks good on paper and the human consequences are two different things. My government set in motion plans to remove the subsidy late last year. After further consultation with stakeholders, and as events unfolded this year, such a move became increasingly untenable. Boosting internal production for refined products shall also help. Capacity is due to step up markedly later this year and next, as private players and modular refineries (Dangote Refinery, BUA Group Refinery, Waltersmith Refinery) come on board.

“The exchange rate is still susceptible to external shocks that can suddenly and severely affect Nigerian citizens. As we step up domestic production – both in fuel (enabled by PIA) and food (agricultural policies) – the inflationary threat shall diminish, and we can move toward unification.”

Elon Musk’s $44B Twitter deal approved by Twitter Board

Twitter’s board has reportedly recommended unanimously that shareholders approve the proposed $44 billion saless of the company to billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

This was contained in a regulatory filing on Tuesday, June 21, according to ABC News.

At the Qatar Economic Forum in an interview with Bloomberg, Musk listed the approval of the deal by shareholders as one of several “unresolved matters” related to the Twitter deal.

AFP quoted Musk saying that his $44 billion move to take over Twitter remained held up by “very significant” questions about the number of fake users on the social network.

“There are still a few unresolved matters,” Musk said by video link.

This includes whether “the number of fake and spam users on the system is less than five percent as per their claims, which I think is probably not most people’s experience when using Twitter.

“So we are still awaiting resolution on that matter and that is a very significant matter,” the Tesla car and SpaceX exploration chief said.

Musk said he wanted to get 80 percent of the North American population and half the world’s population onto Twitter.

“That means it must be something that is appealing to people, it obviously can’t be a place where they feel uncomfortable or harassed or they will simply not use it.”

“I think there is this big difference between freedom of speech and freedom of reach,” Musk added.

“You are allowed to yell whatever you want in a public space, more or less. But whatever you say, however controversial, doesn’t need to then be broadcast to the whole country.

“So I think generally the approach of Twitter should be to let people say what they want within the balance of the law but then limit who sees that based on any given Twitter user preferences.”

He said that if the deal went ahead his role would be to “drive the product”, saying this is what he did at Tesla and SpaceX.

Shares of Twitter Inc. were essentially flat just before the opening bell on Tuesday and far short of the $54.20 per share that Musk has offered to pay for each. The company’s stock last reached that level on April 5 when it offered Musk a seat on the board before he had offered to buy all of Twitter.

In the filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Twitter’s board of directors in a letter to investors, said that it unanimously recommends that you vote (for) the adoption of the merger agreement.”

If the deal were to close now, investors in the company would pocket a profit of $15.22 for each share they own.

Taiwan mounts on their fighter jets to fend off 29 Chinese planes that entered their air space

Taiwan scrambled jets to warn away 29 Chinese aircraft in its air defence zone, including bombers that flew south of the island and into the Pacific, in the latest uptick in tensions and largest incursion since late May.

Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory despite never being ruled by China in 70 years, has complained in recent years of repeated incursions by the Chinese air force near the democratically governed island, often in the southwestern part of its air defence identification zone, or ADIZ.

Taiwan calls China’s repeated nearby military activities “grey zone” warfare, designed to wear out Taiwanese forces by making them repeatedly scramble, and also to test Taiwanese response to military incursions.

The latest Chinese mission on Tuesday, June 21 included 17 fighters and six H-6 bombers, as well as electronic warfare, early warning, antisubmarine and aerial refuelling aircraft, Taiwan’s defence ministry said.

The bombers, accompanied by an electronic warfare and an intelligence gathering aircraft, flew into the Bashi Channel, which separates Taiwan from the Philippines and into the Pacific, before turning back to China on the same route.

Taiwan sent combat aircraft to warn away the Chinese aircraft, while missile systems monitored them, the ministry said.

It was the largest incursion since Taiwan reported 30 Chinese aircraft in its ADIZ on May 30. The largest to date this year occurred on Jan. 23, involving 39 aircraft.

Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said on Wednesday the large-scale exercise by the Chinese military showed China’s military threat is “more serious than ever”.

“But there’s no way #Taiwan will cave in & surrender its sovereignty & democracy to the big bully. Not a chance!,” Wu said on Twitter.

China’s military said last month it had conducted an exercise around Taiwan as a “solemn warning” against its “collusion” with the United States.

Last month U.S. President Joe Biden angered China by saying the United States would get involved militarily if China were to attack the island.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘boi-boi’ crashes his expensive Bugatti Veyron into a wall (photos)

Cristiano Ronaldo’s staff has crashed one of the two luxury cars he had shipped to Majorca for his family’s summer holiday in Spain.

The Man United striker’s £1.7million 900 horsepower Bugatti Veyron is said to have crashed in the east coast resort of Sa Coma.

An employee of the footballer was reportedly at the wheel at the time of the accident.

The accident happened around 11am this morning, June 20.

The driver was unharmed but the front of Cristiano’s expensive motor was damaged.

Stingray fish, the largest in the world, caught in Cambodia (photos)

Cambodian villagers on the Mekong River have caught what researchers say is the world’s biggest freshwater fish ever recorded, a stingray that weighed in at 661 pounds (about 300 kilograms).

The gigantic fish took around a dozen men to haul to shore.

Named Boramy — meaning “full moon” in the Khmer language — because of her bulbous shape, the four-meter (13-foot) female was released back into the river after being electronically tagged to allow scientists to monitor her movement and behavior.

World

“This is very exciting news because it was the world’s largest (freshwater) fish,” said biologist Zeb Hogan, ex-host of the “Monster Fish” show on the National Geographic Channel and now part of Wonders of the Mekong, a conservation project on the river.

“It is also exciting news because it means that this stretch of the Mekong is still healthy…. It is a sign of hope that these huge fish still live (here).”

Boramy took the record from a 645-pound (293-kilogram) giant catfish that was caught upstream in northern Thailand in 2005.

After a fisherman hooked the stingray (an endangered species), he contacted Wonders of the Mekong, which helped tag the ray and release it back into the river.

The Mekong has the third-most diverse fish population in the world, according to its River Commission — though overfishing, pollution, saltwater intrusion and sediment depletion have caused stocks to plummet

Hero! Dmitry Muratov sells his Nobel Prize for £84,500,000 to feed Ukraine’s kids

Dmitry Muratov, an award-winning Russian journalist has raised more than $100 million for Ukrainian children by auctioning off his Nobel Peace Prize.

Muratov who was awarded the gold medal in October 2021, having helped found the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, smashed the record for the highest sum paid for the medal last night in New York City.

He raised $103.5 million (£84.5 million), a sum 27 times higher than the old record set eight years ago.

The journalist will be giving the money to Ukrainian child refugees to give them ‘a chance for a future’.

Proceeds from the auction will go directly to UNICEF in its efforts to help children displaced by the war.

Ahead of the auction, Mr Muratov said he was particularly concerned about children who have been orphaned because of the conflict in Ukraine. ‘We want to return their future,’ he said.

Dmitry Muratov

Previously, the most ever paid for a Nobel Prize medal was in 2014, when James Watson, whose co-discovery of the structure of DNA earned him a Nobel Prize in 1962, sold his medal for $4.76 million (£3.9 million).

Melted down, the 175 grams of 23-karat gold contained in the medal would be worth about $10,000 (£8,156) alone.

Mr Muratov has been highly critical of Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea and the war launched in February. It has caused nearly five million Ukrainians to flee their country, creating the largest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II. UNICEF estimated back in March that 2 million children had been among those forced to flee.

North Korea: See photos of Kim Jong Un as a teenager

North Korean state media has released never before seen photos of Dictator Kim Jong Un as a young boy growing up.

The photos of the baby-faced youngster offer a rare glimpse into his adolescent years before he became a despot.

It comes after North Korea released a documentary on the life of Kim’s late mentor and loyalist Hyon Chol Hae.

Part of the recent documentary, titled “Closest to the Sun” claims Kim instructed doctors how to treat Hyon’s heart disease that he had from 2017 to 2021, according to the Sun. Even though it is known that Kim has no expertise in medicine.

Newly promoted Premier League club, Nottingham Forest are closing in on the club-record signing to bring Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi back to England.

Awoniyi who plies his trade with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga is ready to move to the Premier League in a deal that will cost Forest about £17.5million.

The striker,  24, who joined Liverpool in 2015 and had loan spells at six different clubs without making the breakthrough at Anfield,  scored 15 goals to help Union Berlin punch above their weight in the Bundesliga last season.

There are also reports that Liverpool are entitled to a percentage of any transfer fee, as part of his move to Union for nearly £6m last summer.

Awoniyi was also part of the Nigerian squad that crashed out at the second round stage of the AFCON that was held earlier this year in Cameroon. The 2013 U-17 World Champion is expected help to Steve Cooper’s side avoid an immediate return to the Championship when he joins the club.

Lagos: How Arabic teacher allegedly assaulted 9 pupils sexually – Nurse recounts

A nurse, Oluchi Nwoke-Okoi, on Monday told an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court how an Arabic teacher, Farouk Adam, allegedly fingered his nine Islamic pupils, ages seven to 13 years.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Farouk is facing a nine-count- charge bordering on sexual assault.

Nwoke-Okoi, a registered nurse and midwife, while being led in evidence by the State Prosecutor, Olufunke Adegoke, said she was a staff of Women At Risk Foundation and had 15 years of experience in midwifery.

The witness told the court that she attended to nine survivors and conducted vagina examinations on seven of them after their mothers brought them to the WARIF centre on February 20, 2019.

“The survivors and their mothers were brought to the centre by police officers. We took time to question each of the survivors and also conducted a vagina examination on them.

“Seven of the survivors said that the defendant, who is their Arabic teacher, on several occasions, inserted his fingers into their vaginas.

“The eighth survivor said the defendant only touched her breast while the ninth survivor told us that she was afraid to attend the Islamic class after her sister told her that the defendant inserted his fingers into her vagina.

“Vagina examination was carried out on them. Based on their histories and the vagina examination, the result shows an absence of hymen. [The} conclusion is suggestive of sexual assault of a minor,” she said.

The witness told the court that the youngest of the survivor was seven years while the oldest was 13 years.

In cross-examination by defence counsel, A.O. Okonkwo, Nwoke-Okoi said she was certified by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, adding that the vagina examination she carried out on the survivors was not outside her practice.

She further said that vigorous scratching could not tamper with hymen.

“I have a license to practice as a registered and certified midwife and the vagina examination I carried out is not outside my practice.

“Laceration of the vagina means bruises, injuries or scars on the vagina. In some cases, when the vagina is tampered with, there may be a laceration or not.

“In the case of sexual assault, laceration can be seen when the survivor struggles or when penis, fingers or object is being forced into the vagina.

“In the same vein, the hymen cannot be intact when the finger, penis or object is inserted into the vagina. It is not in my power to decide whose fingers penetrated the vaginas of the survivors and I disagree that scratching can tamper with the hymen,” the nurse said.

NAN reports that the prosecuting counsel informed the court that the witness was the last prosecution witness in the case and prayed the court to order the defendant to open his defence.

The alleged offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, (2015).

Justice Abiola Soladoye adjourned the case until October 5 for the defendant to open his defence.

“It May Be Your Turn In APC Presidency But Not For Nigerians” – Babangida Aliyu Fires Tinubu

A former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, has said that the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, should not waste his time and resources in contesting for president.

“Bola Tinubu a good friend, I don’t think he should waste his time now, and I think he should reserve his resources for another thing and I thought that it would have been better for him to have sponsored younger people into this win. He has the governor of Ekiti, Fayemi, he has other young people that he could have sponsored and allowed it happen, no matter what he thought he could do to Nigeria, these people would do it better,” Aliyu said.

Aliyu also reiterated that the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, would have been the best candidate for the APC presidential ticket because he had learnt enough lessons as the Vice President.

“His (Tinubu’s) outburst in Abeokuta; I don’t think any person can say in Nigeria of today of 200million people, this is my turn. It is never your turn; even if you want to say, it’s the turn of the people or of your own, let’s even put it that way, then put all what that’s has happened given all the ethnic groups in Nigeria, the North-East, North-Central, South-East has never had a presidency in Nigeria, even if that’s a claim to be made; these are the zones that could make such a claim but for you to think because you have helped somebody to be and therefore it must be your turn, agreement was not written. There was no evidence that there was an agreement that was written for somebody to say it’s my turn.

“If it’s your turn in the APC that’s your own problem but that’s not for Nigerians. Nigerians will come to decide what is best for them given what we have gone through,” Babangida noted.

Kylian Mbappe almost left the French National team because of racism

Football star, Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he almost quit the France national team after receiving racist abuse following his penalty miss at Euro 2020.

France were sent packing by Switzerland at the round of 16 stage last June, after Mbappe’s spot kick was saved by Yann Sommer.

French Football Federation president, Noel Le Graet, claimed that the PSG star was thinking about retiring from international football afterwards because of the lack of support he received following the crucial penalty miss.

French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet claimed in a newspaper interview released on Sunday that Mbappe was thinking about retiring from international football after the tournament because of the lack of support he received following the crucial penalty miss.

Le Graet said: “I met with him after the Euros, he felt the Federation had not defended him after his missed penalty and the criticism on the networks.

“We met for five minutes in my office. He was angry, he didn’t want to play for the French team any more — which he obviously didn’t mean.

“You know how it is, he’s a winner, he was very frustrated, like all of us, by the elimination. He’s so media-friendly. He’s a great guy, much more collective than people think.”

But Mbappe has said it was because of the racial abuse he received rather than because of the penalty miss.

Mbappe, 23, wrote on social media: “Yes finally I explained to him (Le Graet) above all that it was in relation to racism, and NOT to the penalty.

“But he considered that there had been no racism…”

Tanzania: Gang of monkeys snatch and kill baby boy

A baby boy was sadly killed by a gang of monkeys who snatched him from his mum while she was breastfeeding him.

The one-month-old was with his mum outside the family home in a village in Tanzania when the unfortunate incident occurred, police said. The child was injured on his head and neck and passed away during emergency medical treatment.

Regional commander James Manyama said villagers tried to use force in an attempt to rescue Luhaiba from their grasp.

The animal then lashed out at the child and killed him, Tanzanian newspaper The Citizen reported.

Mr Manyama said: ‘She screamed for help and villagers rushed to her house to assist her in getting her child – identified as Luhaiba Said – back from the troop of monkeys.

‘When they tried to take him back by force he got injured on the head and the neck.’

Police urged citizens to stay on the lookout for the dangerous animals.

The commander added: ‘It should be noted that Mwamgongo village shares a border with Gombe National Park.

‘Incidents of animals invading villages are not uncommon.’

Fuel scarcity hits Lagos, sells at N165

Members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), have said that it has become unrealistic for the pump price of petrol to remain at N165 per litre.

The chairman of the Lagos chapter of the union, Akin Akinrinade, stated this while reacting to the recent fuel scarcity being experienced in Lagos state. According to him, the situation across the state is a result of the operating environment which has become hostile to their businesses.

In an interview with Channels TV, Akinrinade said marketers have found it difficult to operate considering the dependence on diesel whose price has skyrocketed. He listed the high cost of buying petrol at the depots, the high cost of diesel for running their station, and the increased cost of freight as the major factors responsible. Akinrinade stressed that it was no longer feasible to sell the product at the recommended price of N165 to a litre, adding that the landing cost of petrol was between N175 to N178 naira to the litre.

“Members of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN have shut down their stations, not because we are striking; we are not on strike. Rather, the business environment has been very hostile to us such that we can no longer do business under this condition. For you to load a litre of petrol, you pay in N162 per litre.

You now have to add the cost of transportation which is between N6 to N8, depending on the distance within Lagos. If it is outside Lagos, it is much more than that.

So, if you add N8 to N162, you already have N170 and the government which is the regulator wants us to sell at N165; we have not even added the charges at the depot and the running cost at our stations.

You know what diesel says now, and you know how epileptic power supply is; we run on generator, using diesel at N800 per litre. There is no station in Lagos that uses less than 50 litres (of diesel) per day.

So, our members can no longer sell (petrol) at N165 per litre; in fact, there is no reasonable person in this business that can sell below N180 per litre.”

Elon Musk’s teen son to change his identity and gender so that he can distance himself away from him

Elon Musk’s son is completely changing his identity to distance himself from his father.

Xavier Alexander Musk, who has a twin named Griffin, turned 18 in April 2022.

Almost immediately after his birthday, Xavier filed a petition with the courthouse to change his gender to female and name to Vivian.

The Blast obtained the documents from the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County at the time of their release but did not publish the documents right away to give Vivian time to come out on her own.

However, the documents have started making their way around Twitter.

Vivian’s hearing is scheduled for this Friday, June 24.

Xavier Alexander Musk is requesting to change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson. She is also asking for the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County to recognize her gender as female. The petition was filed on Monday, April 18.

Vivian listed the reason for the name change as not wanting to be associated with her biological father.

The document states: “Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”

Elon Musk married Canadian author Justine Wilson in January 2000 and they welcomed twin sons – Griffin and Xavier – in 2004.

In 2008, the pair filed for divorce. They still share custody of their five children.

Samuel Eto’o Admits €3.88m Tax Fraud In Court While Playing In Spain to avoid jail time

Former Cameroon international and FC Barcelona footballer, Samuel Eto’o Fils and his former representative José María Mesalles have accepted the sentences of 22 months and one year in prison, respectively, after acknowledging having defrauded 3,872,621 euros from the Public Treasury, between 2006 and 2009.

According to SportsBay, Eto’o in his statement in the Criminal Court number 11 of Barcelona, admitted the fraud but he blamed it, without citing him directly, on Mesalles, whom he has always defined as “a second father.”

The former Cameroonian footballer had filed a lawsuit against his former representative for alleged crimes of fraud and misappropriation in the management of his assets, a matter that is still in the investigation phase.

“I recognise the facts and I am going to pay, but let it be known that I was a child then and that I always did what my father asked me to do,” said Samuel Eto’o.

Mesalles, for his part, has preferred not to testify before admitting the facts, in a conformity trial in which the third accused, Jesús Lastre , administrator of one of the instrumental companies used in the fraud, has been acquitted.

In its indictment, the prosecution requested sentences of 4 years and 6 months in prison for Eto’o and Mesalles , which have finally been reduced to 22 months for the former player, as the author of four crimes against the Public Treasury, and one year for his former agent as a necessary co-operator.

Likewise, the former African striker has been sentenced to pay four fines, one for each crime, amounting to 1,810,310 euros, and his former representative to another four for a total value of 905,155 euros.

The sentences, whose execution will be suspended since neither of them has a previous criminal record, have been mitigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office by recognising both the facts and having partially repaired the damage with the return of part of the defrauded fees.

The fraud relates to Eto’o failing to declare income derived from the transfer of image rights to Puma and Barcelona in his personal income tax return between 2006 and 2009.

Eto’o pretended that such rights had been assigned to two companies resident in Hungary and Spain, so that the income diverted to the Hungarian company, managed by Lastre, was not taxed to the Treasury, while that diverted to the Spanish company, managed by Mesalles, will not be taxed heavily, that is, corresponding to his Personal Income tax

NNPP’s Kwankwaso confirms merger talks with the Labour Party

Former governor of Kano state and Presidential candidate of New Nigerian Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso has said his party is closed to reach alliance with Labour Party (LP) ahead of 2023 general election.

Peter Obi is the Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking with Hausa BBC Kwankwaso said, “We are really talking to Peter Obi, or at least saying that the committee is working to look into the matter (and cooperate with him), and friends and family are coming to talk to us about it.”
He noted that their collaboration was especially important as the All Progressives (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had not fielded an Igbo vice-presidential candidate.

“Sanctions on Russia are harmful to those that impose them” – Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned sanctions imposed on the west towards his country since the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February, drawing a tough response from the West.

The west has placed sanctions on Russia’s currency, the Rouble, limited or totally cut off Russian exports, banned travel to and fro Russia and imposed fines and sanctions on Russia oligarchs and politicians including Putin himself.

Now Putin says the sanctions imposed by the West on Russia are “mad and thoughtless”.

Speaking at a forum in St Petersburg on Friday, June 17, he said “the economic blitzkrieg against Russia had no chance of succeeding from the very beginning. They are mad and thoughtless.”

Putin said the sanctions were “more harmful” to those who imposed them.

His statement comes as fierce fighting continued in Ukraine’s eastern city of Severodonetsk.

Capturing Severodonetsk and Lysychansk has for weeks been the key target for Russian troops.

Speaking at the annual St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin said the EU could lose more than $400bn (£326bn) because of its sanctions against Russia.

He said inflation was increasing across the 27-member EU bloc and the real interests of people in Europe were being sidelined.

Referring to fears of a global food crisis triggered by the continuing war in Ukraine, Putin claimed that Russia was “capable of significantly increasing its exports of grain and fertilisers.” Grain exports alone could rise to some 50 million tonnes, he said.

Ukraine is one of the world’s top grain producers along with Russia, but has been unable to send supplies abroad because of a blockade of its Black Sea ports.

Putin also told Russia’s major business men to keep investing in the country, amid reports that an increasing number of business owners were refocusing their efforts on overseas operations.

“Invest here. It’s safer in your own house. Those who didn’t want to listen to this have lost millions abroad,” Mr Putin said.

Cristiano Ronaldo may leave Manchester United ‘very soon’

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly made up his mind to leave Manchester United this summer because he doesn’t feel part of Erik ten Hag’s project at Old Trafford.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica made the audacious claim that Ronaldo is now seeking a way out of United ahead of next season.

They state the forward doesn’t feel involved in Ten Hag’s efforts to revitalise a team that has been in a state of decline for several seasons now.

The Portuguese star, 37, scored 24 goals during the first season of his second stint at United but everything is set to change with the arrival of the Dutch coach this summer.

Roma and Sporting Lisbon are listed as potential destinations for the player who goes home with an enormous £480,000-a-week wages.

United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League next season is apparently another factor that reportedly contributed to his decision.

La Repubblica claim Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is hunting for a new club for him and Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, has emerged as a potential destination.

A return to his first club, Sporting Lisbon, is also reported as a possibility after they qualifised for next season’s Champions League after finishing second behind Porto in the Primeira Liga

Icelandic Court Awards Nigerian Man N60M Compensation For Illegal Imprisonment

An appeal court in Iceland has awarded a Nigerian man 19 million krónur (N60 million) after being detained illegally for extra 9 months.

According to a report by RUV, the investigation had led to a two-month prison sentence.

However, his time in custody was extended beyond the eventual sentence handed down in court.

He further claimed damages from the Icelandic state as a result—also claiming compensation for the travel ban he was subject to between the end of his custody and the time the court made its final verdict.

A district court had earlier ruled in the man’s favour, ordering the state to pay the man 4.5 million krónur (N14.2 million) in compensation.

The district court ruled that Iceland should only compensate for the five months spent in custody in Iceland— it failed to hold the Icelandic state responsible for the six months the Nigerian man spent in custody in Italy while authorities there processed the extradition request from Iceland.

But the court of appeal ruled that the state was liable to pay compensation for the man’s time spent behind bars in both Iceland and Italy. This was because the man was remanded in custody while Italian authorities worked on a request made by Iceland.

The Nigerian man had been arrested alongside three Icelanders, over an online crime committed in 2015, when an unknown man hacked into communications between an Icelandic fish exporter and a South Korean importer.

The man got the South Korean company to transfer 54 million krónur meant to pay for Icelandic fish into a fraudulent account.

The Icelanders were remanded in custody for a week, but the Nigerian for nearly a year. After trial, the court sentenced the Icelanders for money laundering by intent and sentenced them to 8, 10, and 12 months in prison. The Nigerian was sentenced to just two months for the crime of money laundering by negligence.

People sentenced to prison for financial crimes usually do not serve their full sentence in prison, and can often serve at least part of it in the form of community service.

In this case, the person who was handed down by far the shortest sentence spent by far the longest time behind bars. As a result, the state has been ordered to pay him 19 million krónur which is N60 million.

Nigeria to eliminate the use of kerosene in the country by 2030

President Muhammadu Buhari has initiated a new plan in a revised policy to eliminate the use of kerosene in the country by 2030.

Buhari who announced this during a virtual meeting hosted by the US President, Joe Biden on Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate Change (MEF), said it is part of Nigeria’s commitment for a safer and healthier global climate.

Channels Television reported that the President also listed the country’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to include increase in the use of bus rapid transit as a means of transportation for the general public, 50 per cent reduction in the fraction of crop residues burnt by 2030 and implementation of forest programmes.

He disclosed that the NDC is a contribution to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, submitted to replace the interim contribution of May 27, 2021.

In 2012, the federal government commenced a new policy draft known as the National strategic policy for LPG in collaboration with stakeholders in the petroleum industry, to phase out kerosene and firewood usage in the country and adopt the cooking gas as an alternative, however, 10 years after, that policy is yet to crystallize.

Revlon company files for bankruptcy

Revlon, a 90-year-old cosmetics giant, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection because of its crippling debt and mounting celebrity competition.

The company has been a mainstay on store shelves since its founding 90 years ago in New York City, overseeing a stable of household names, from Almay to Elizabeth Arden.

Revlon failed to keep pace with changing tastes, slow to follow women as they traded flashy red lipstick for more muted tones in the 1990s.

In addition to losing market share to big rivals like Procter & Gamble, newcomer cosmetic lines from Kylie Jenner and other celebrities successfully capitalized on the massive social media following of the famous faces that fronted the products.

Already weighed down by rising debt, Revlon’s problems only intensified with the pandemic as lipstick gave way to a new era in fashion, this one featuring medical-grade masks.

Revlon, known for its signature nail polish and lipstick, reported long-term liabilities of $3.3 billion in the first quarter.

“Today’s filing will allow Revlon to offer our consumers the iconic products we have delivered for decades, while providing a clearer path for our future growth,” CEO Debra Perelman said in a statement.

The company said it expects to receive $575 million in financing from its lenders if its bankruptcy is approved in court.

The company was founded in 1932 by brothers Charles and Joseph Revson and Charles Lachman. Revlon (REV) went public in 1996 and in 2016 bought by Elizabeth Arden in an $870 million skincare bet to fend off competition. It houses several top brands, including Britney Spears Fragrances and Christina Aguilera Fragrances.

It also made headlines two years ago when Citigroup (C) accidentally sent nearly $900 million of its own money to Revlon’s lenders. A judge ruled that the bank couldn’t recover the money.

Russian woman eaten by her 20 cats after she died

A woman was eaten by her 20 cats after she collapsed at her home and was not discovered by police for two weeks.

Police were alerted by one of the woman’s employees who said she could not contact her boss.

When police arrived at the home in Bataysk, Rostov region, Russia, they found the partially eaten remains of the woman with the hungry cats surrounding her.

Police believe she had been dead for two weeks as they probed her decomposing remains.

“The cats were left alone on their own for two weeks, there was no food, so what else to eat?” said one animal rescue expert who cared for some of the surviving cats.

“It’s understandable right? They ate what there was.”

The cats have now been given to new owners for just £29 each.

Studies have found that cat owners who die at home risk being eaten alive by their hungry pets.

Thousands infected with intestinal disease, North Korea says

North Korea said Friday that hundreds of families had fallen ill with an unidentified intestinal disease, heaping pressure on a crumbling healthcare system already strained by COVID-19.

Pyongyang announced its first coronavirus cases last month and activated a “maximum emergency epidemic prevention system”, with leader Kim Jong Un putting himself front and centre of the government’s response.

The new virus was said to have torn through the unvaccinated population of 25 million, with more than 4.5 million cases of “fever” and 73 deaths to date, according to figures published by state media.

Building on the country’s woes, the official KCNA, this week, announced a new “acute enteric epidemic” in South Hwanghae province, with Kim urging officials expected to “contain the epidemic at the earliest date possible.”

In a possible sign of the seriousness of the situation, Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un’s powerful sister, was one of a group of senior officials who reportedly personally donated medicine to try and help.

The medicine will be delivered to “over 800 families suffering from the acute epidemic which broke out in some areas of South Hwanghae Province,” state media KCNA reported Friday.

The figure suggests at least 1,600 people have been infected with the enteric disease.
